Exclusive: DEMISE OF THE CROWN Premieres “My Mind Is Free” Video

Montreal metallers Demise Of The Crown has premiered the video for “My Mind Is Free” through BraveWords. The track is the first single off their upcoming album, Life In The City, due for release April 24, 2020.

Bassist Simon D. comments on the video:

“I wanted to show something special in this video. There's this magical moment that happens when playing the first chord onstage or when the director calls for action during the shoot. It's like the band is being summoned to play by some unknown force of nature, a kind of ritual that brings us together to generate music.”

Lead guitarist Manuel Iradian says:

“‘My Mind Is Free’ is a dark and powerful song with an uplifting message of being able to overcome your demons in life before it’s too late. I'm extremely happy with Darren’s unique and colorful vocal performance here. It gives the song more character and, stylistically, this track has a lot to offer from Middle Eastern influences, hardcore breakdowns, big hooks, shredding face-melter leads and slow ballad parts.”

“My Mind Is Free” is available for download here.

Demise Of The Crown is:
Darren Beadman - Vocals
Manuel Iradian - Lead Guitarist
Kevin Alexander - Drums
Simon Doiron – Bass
Vince Doiron – Guitar

MIDNIGHT Launches Video For “Fucking Speed And Darkness”; New Album Out Now

Midnight has released their new album, Rebirth By Blasphemy, via Metal Blade Records."Rebirth By Blasphemy is a rebirth," states Midnight's sole driving force, Athenar. "It's a change in life and it's a rebirth of doing whatever the fuck you want and seeing what happens after that. It's about saying yes, taking opportunities, taking a fucking chance."

These sentiments are backed up by the notorious - and prolific - underground band's trademark blend of speed metal, black metal and punk rock, sounding both fuller and more raucous than ever before.

For a new preview of Rebirth By Blasphemy, a new video for album opener "Fucking Speed And Darkness",  is available for streaming below.

Order the album in the following formats here:

- jewelcase-CD
- digipak-CD (EU exclusive)
- cassette
- black vinyl (US exclusive - limited to 750 copies)
- oxblood vinyl (US exclusive - limited to 1000 copies)
- oxblood / grey split vinyl w/ black splatter (US exclusive - limited to 500 copies)
- blood red / white melt vinyl (US exclusive - limited to 500 copies)
- 180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
- grey marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 1500 copies)
- red / blue marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 1000 copies)
- red / black marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 666 copies)
- bloody skin vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 400 copies)
- German flag vinyl (HRR exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
- jizz spinner vinyl (EU webshop exclusive - limited to 200 copies)

Dating back to the band's inception in 2002, vocalist/guitarist/bassist/drummer Athenar has always known exactly what he wanted Midnight to be, and over the course of countless demos, EPs, compilations, splits and three full-lengths he has stayed true to his roots. There is no denying that, like its predecessors, Rebirth By Blasphemy is a ruthlessly catchy collection, every song, vicious as they are, wielding the kind of hooks that sink deep and don't let go.

Handling every instrument himself and being quite unfussy when it comes to production typically means that the recording process is a straightforward one for Midnight, and this time was no different. Staying in his home town of Cleveland, he opted to record at Mercenary Studios with the assistance of Noah Buchanan, laying the drums down in a day, the guitars in a little more than that, bass in a few hours, and then tracking the vocals to two or three songs a day. "I think there's really no production value on the album, it's really just get in there, press record and see what happens. Maybe you can tell that the sessions went pretty quickly when you listen to it. There are so-called mistakes, of course, but I wouldn't have it any other way." He also wouldn't have it any other way when it comes to touring this latest collection hard, with a lot of dates with a variety of bands already locked down. "It's the rebirth, it's saying fuck it and getting out there and doing what you're supposed to do, and we're supposed to play music. If people want to damage their ears by listening to it, that's welcomed."

SVART CROWN Debut Music Video For New Single "Blessed Be The Fools"

French extreme metallers, Svart Crown, have released the third single, "Blessed By The Fools", from their new album, Wolves Among The Ashes, out on February 7.  Watch a video for the track below.

Wolves Among The Ashes is certainly their most mature and diverse album to date. This new set of songs promises a deep and introspecting journey, from freezing black metal vibes to post-modern apocalyptic death metal.

Across tortured and bleak landscapes, the French quartet is exploring the most sombre and psychotic traits of humanity, from the telluric plea of "Thermaggedon" to the powerful vision of their new monolith "Living With The Enemy", slithering through sexual innuendo on "Art Of Obedience" or channeling spirituality on "Down To Nowhere". With its message both poignant and thoughtful, "Wolves Among The Ashes" is a true devil in sheep's skin and a new exciting milestone in Svart Crown's history.

Wolves Among The Ashes will be available in the following formats, and can be pre-ordered here.

- Limited CD Digipak

Former DEATH And CYNIC Drummer SEAN REINERT Dead At 48

Sean Reinert, longtime drummer for progressive/technical metal pioneers CYNIC, has died. He was found unresponsive at his California home Friday night (January 24). No cause of death has yet been revealed. He was only 48 years old.

Reinert was a founding member of CYNIC, along with guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal, and he remained in the group until September 2015.

In 1991, Reinert and Masvidal joined the legendary Florida band DEATH to record the "Human" album. After touring with DEATH, they returned to CYNIC.

1993 saw the release of CYNIC's debut album, "Focus", which is regarded as a landmark LP in the field of technical/progressive metal. After CYNIC's initial split, Reinert and Masvidal relocated to Los Angeles, where they continued working with music by writing and performing for television shows and motion pictures.

In 1999, Reinert helped Masvidal form ÆON SPOKE, which was described as an "ethereal rock" band. In 2007, CYNIC reformed for a tour and recorded a new album, "Traced In Air", which was released in 2008 and followed by more touring. After "Traced In Air", CYNIC issued two conceptual EPs, "Re-Traced" (2010) and "Carbon-Based Anatomy" (2011). Sean's final recorded appearance with CYNIC was "Kindly Bent To Free Us", which came out in February 2014 via Season Of Mist.

Reinert played his last shows with CYNIC in September 2015 in Japan. He later said that the "performances were not up to par" and blamed the band's lack of preparation on "the accumulation of differences in musical directions and business practices."

After his exit from CYNIC, Sean was involved with the Los Angeles progressive rock group PERFECT BEINGS, whose latest album, "Vier", was released in January 2018 via InsideOut Music.

Sad news... First met Sean and saw #CYNIC play in Florida 1990, they only had a demo out and it was a more pure Death Metal sound and not as progressive as they later became. The musicianship was already there though..totally next level. A year or so later we (CARCASS) shared a bus with the “Human” lineup of DEATH (featuring Sean & Paul from CYNIC) in Europe and we had some great times again. A killer groundbreaking drummer back then and nice dude. R.I.P. Sean Reinert. #seanreinert #cynic #death #floridadeathmetal #drummer #rip

DELAIN Releases Music Video For 'Ghost House Heart' Song

While fans eagerly await DELAIN's sixth full-length studio album, "Apocalypse & Chill", scheduled for release on February 7, 2020, the band has generously offered a fourth single, "Ghost House Heart". The track showcases the delightful diversity of DELAIN's upcoming album — an offering that truly takes you on an amazing journey. In contrast to the bombast of "Masters Of Destiny", the epic highs of "Burning Bridges" and the cool modern vibes of "One Second", DELAIN takes it back to raw essence with the hauntingly beautiful "Ghost House Heart", the first ballad to be released by DELAIN since "See Me In Shadows" from their debut album released in 2007.

Vocalist Charlotte Wessels on "Ghost House Heart": "Going back to such an intimate song after the bombast of 'Masters Of Destiny' and 'Burning Bridges' feels a bit like switching gears, but I enjoy every minute of it. Singing this song is almost meditative, and I love the way voice, piano and violin weave together in the track. I hope our fans will love this change of pace as well, and I can't wait to perform this song live on stage during our upcoming U.K. tour and our Valentine's Day release show in Utrecht."

Keyboardist Martijn Westerholt on the creation of the new song: "This song was created while spontaneously playing and singing together with Charlotte. It seemed to create itself. It's also a nice change of pace in relation to the other songs we have written for the new album. As a pianist, of course it is fun to play a piano song for a change. We worked with violinist Shir-Ran Yinon and I think the way the violin intertwines with the vocal lines is mesmerizing. The video was a lot fun to make and it was a beautiful set with a lot of history."

"Ghost House Heart" was filmed in the dead of winter at Woolton Hall in Liverpool, which was built in 1704 and left to decay for the last few decades. Woolton Hall's alleged haunted halls provided the perfect backdrop for "Ghost House Heart".

"Apocalypse & Chill" track listing:

01. One Second

02. We Had Everything

03. Chemical Redemption

04. Burning Bridges

05. Vengeance

06. To Live Is To Die

07. Let's Dance

08. Creatures

09. Ghost House Heart

10. Masters Of Destiny

11. Legions Of The Lost

12. The Greatest Escape

13. Combustion

DELAIN's latest release was "Hunter's Moon", which came out in February 2019 via Napalm Records. The effort consisted of new studio tracks accompanied by a live Blu-ray from the group's sold-out "Danse Macabre" 2017 European tour.

Guitarist Merel Bechtold left DELAIN in June 2019 to focus on different musical ambitions. Her final performance with DELAIN took place on June 23, 2019 at the Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium.

DELAIN is:

Martijn Westerholt - Keyboards

Charlotte Wessels - Vocals

Joey Marin de Boer - Drums

Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije - Bass

Timo Somers - Guitar

DISTURBED Vocalist Calls NEIL PEART's Passing 'A Tremendous Loss', Says JUDAS PRIEST's ROCK HALL Exclusion Is 'Just Not Right'

During a recent conversation with Brent Porche of the Philadelphia radio station 93.3 WMMR, DISTURBED vocalist David Draiman was asked if he thinks the band — which will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of its debut album, "The Sickness", in 2020 — will merit consideration for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame when it becomes eligible in five years.

"I can't even put that in context," Draiman said. "It's every musician's honor and dream to be included. Who knows? Maybe one day, we'll be blessed with such a gift. If not, we've already been given so many gifts from the fans on a daily basis. You get to a point where you feel bad asking for more. It's all good. Whatever comes in the future, we're more than happy to entertain and to roll with it. I don't think we can hinge our hopes on something like that. When you have bands like [JUDAS] PRIEST still not in there, it's just not right."

Draiman was also asked to comment on the passing of RUSH drummer Neil Peart, who died from glioblastoma (an aggressive form of brain cancer) on January 7. "There's no way to overestimate the impact of the loss of such an individual," the vocalist said. "RUSH was so seminal on so many levels to so much of the rock community. It wasn't just a prog thing — it was an everybody thing. Everybody who was a musician that appreciated where music could be taken, and the creativity and the possibilities that came along with it. Just the sheer level of pure musicianship that each member alone had, but you couldn't talk about the best of the best of the world of drumming without mentioning Neil Peart — how brilliant of a player he was, how gifted, how fundamental a lot of what he created and passed down to people. Even as a lyricist — just a tremendous loss."

DISTURBED — whose latest album, "Evolution", was released via Reprise in October of 2018 — recently released a music video for the song "Hold On To Memories". The clip was directed by Matt Mahurin, who previously helmed the video for the band's cover of SIMON & GARFUNKEL's "The Sound Of Silence".

In September, DISTURBED's song "No More" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart. The track marked the group's seventh straight No. 1 on the chart, and tenth overall. Each of DISTURBED's last seven singles has reached No. 1 on Mainstream Rock Songs, a feat unmatched by any other artist.

Video Premiere: STABBING WESTWARD's 'Cold'

Industrial rockers STABBING WESTWARD have released the official music video for "Cold", from their first collection of new music since 2001. The "Dead & Gone" EP was made available on January 3 and it contains three brand new songs ("Dead & Gone", "Cold" and "Crawl") and two remixes ("Dead & Gone" and "Crawl").

STABBING WESTWARD released an EP in 1992, followed by four studio albums between 1994 and 2001. The band achieved its first certified gold albums with both 1996's "Wither Blister Burn & Peel" and 1998's "Darkest Days". After STABBING WESTWARD disbanded in 2002, frontman Christopher Hall formed THE DREAMING, with whom he recorded three albums. Hall and keyboardist Walter Flakus reformed STABBING WESTWARD in 2016 to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary, and they have continued to perform.

in 2016, STABBING WESTWARD released a re-recorded version of the song "Plastic Jesus" on the "Cold Waves V" compilation. Another track called "Home in You", which was originally written for the band's 2001 self-titled album, was made available in 2017 via the "Cold Waves VI" compilation.

STABBING WESTWARD's current lineup includes Hall, Flakus, THE DREAMING's Carlton Bost on bass, and former ORGY drummer Bobby Amaro.

In a new interview with Regen Magazine, Hall stated about the "Dead & Gone" EP: "This is the first time since the early days of the band that Walter and I were able to write together without any outside influence. When we worked on THE DREAMING material, I know Walter was aware he was stepping into a preexisting project and he felt inclined to fit into the vibe of the band. It was a much different writing experience than starting from scratch on all new material knowing it's going to be a STABBING WESTWARD album. So, while 'Rise Again' was the first step to rebuilding STABBING WESTWARD, it was still THE DREAMING. The one song that came out of that album as a fairly pure STABBING WESTWARD song was 'Alone'. It was Walter's music and my vocals, just like the old days.

"When we started writing these new songs, we realized that we had a lot of ghosts to deal with first. There were many conversations about what exactly constitutes a STABBING WESTWARD record. What would fans expect from us? Which version of STABBING do we draw from? 'Ungod'? 'Darkest Days'? I know a lot of fans were nervous it would be even more pop than the self-titled. All the old pressures and insecurities of being on a major label and fighting for a spot on alternative radio were still lurking in the closet. All those things had become part of our subconscious writing process.

"I think one of the biggest hurdles for us was realizing how free we were and then learning to let go of all that baggage. We had this rare opportunity to make music purely for us. I know that sounds easy, but it was actually pretty fucking challenging. In the end, we both just looked back on what music inspired us to do this in the first place; forget all the twists and turns and detours fate had dealt us, and try to remember all the way back to the very beginning — two guys who loved early WaxTrax! industrial music and figure out how we could recapture that love and still be us."

SCORPIONS Singer KLAUS MEINE: 'No More Farewell Tours'

In a brand new interview with "The Rick Lewis Show" on 103.5 The Fox radio station, SCORPIONS singer Klaus Meine once again assured fans that there is no more talk of retirement, as there was back in 2010 with what was purported to be a final album and a farewell tour that never quite took hold.

"We don't wanna know about 'farewell' anymore," the 71-year-old vocalist said (hear audio below). "No more farewell tours — that's it. I don't know. Back then, it might have been the wrong decision, but somebody had the feeling, 'This is it. And this should be a farewell tour.' But three years [into] this farewell tour, we realized there's a whole new generation [of SCORPIONS fans]. We had an offer to make an MTV unplugged album. And there were tons of good reasons just to stay and to keep going. And thanks we did. It was a good decision to just hang in there and keep going.

"Last year, just a couple of months ago, in October, we played Rock In Rio [festival] in front of over a hundred thousand Brazilian crazy fans, and then you go out there and realize, 'Wow! There's still so much gas in the tank,'" he continued. "And we enjoy it way too much. And it would have been totally the wrong decision to stop and give it all up — give up what is a very unique history, considering we're a European, we're a German band; there are not too many of them around in the world. And it's a good thing we're still out there. But growing older, of course, I'm realistic enough to know this will not go on forever, and who knows what's waiting around the next corner? But right now, we all feel good, we're healthy, we're strong. We have a new drummer in the band, Mikkey Dee, who came from MOTÖRHEAD, who kicks our butt and brings a lot of new energy. And it's a lot of fun. And we enjoy every day being out there. And it's a privilege — it's a huge privilege — to play in front of three generations and that we still can do this on this high level."

SCORPIONS will enter a Los Angeles studio this spring with producer Greg Fidelman (METALLICA, SLIPKNOT) to begin recording its new album for a tentative late 2020 release. The upcoming disc will mark the German hard rock legends' first release since 2017's "Born To Touch Your Feelings - Best Of Rock Ballads", which was an anthology of SCORPIONS' new and classic material.

SCORPIONS' last full-length collection of new recordings was 2015's "Return To Forever", partially comprising songs the band had in the vault from the '80s. It was the final recorded appearance of SCORPIONS' longtime drummer James Kottak, who was dismissed from the band in September 2016.

Earlier this month, SCORPIONS announced that they will be taking over the Las Vegas Strip later this year with their exclusive headlining residency show. Promoted by Live Nation and Caesars Entertainment, SCORPIONS "Sin City Nights" kicks off Saturday, July 4 at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. SCORPIONS will be joined by special guests QUEENSRŸCHE.

SCORPIONS previously played a Las Vegas mini-residency in May 2016, consisting of five shows at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Support on those dates also came from QUEENSRŸCHE.

Listen to "Klaus Meine 1-21-20" on Spreaker.

DISTURBED Hall Of Fame

ANNIHILATOR's JEFF WATERS On NEIL PEART: 'When He Died, I Think A Little Piece Of Canada Died'

Jeff Waters of Canadian thrash metal veterans ANNIHILATOR has commented on the passing of Neil Peart, who died on January 7 in Santa Monica, California after a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The iconic RUSH drummer was 67 years old.

Speaking to The Metal Voice, Waters said (hear audio below): "Everybody knows inside and outside of Canada what Neil Peart has done as a drummer to our hearts and souls, but to drummers — the influence that he's had on almost every drummer since he started… Everybody knows RUSH's music and the trio are probably the three most talented people in music that got together ever… RUSH, to me, is just part of Canada. That is Canada; they're almost not even people.

"My favorite [RUSH] songs were 'Spirit Of Radio', 'Limelight' — it has the best chorus ever — and 'Tom Sawyer'. Those are my top three songs. And he was, and RUSH is, and he is, part of Canada. So when he died, I think a little piece of Canada died."

ANNIHILATOR's new album, "Ballistic, Sadistic", is due on January 24 via Silver Lining Music.

Peart joined RUSH in 1974. He was considered one of the best rock drummers of all time, alongside John Bonham of LED ZEPPELIN; Keith Moon of THE WHO; and Ginger Baker of CREAM. Peart was also RUSH's primary lyricist, drawing inspiration from everything from sci-fi to Ayn Rand.

QUEEN Singer ADAM LAMBERT Launches FEEL SOMETHING FOUNDATION To Support LGBTQ Organizations

QUEEN singer Adam Lambert has announced the launch of the Feel Something Foundation, his new LGBTQ advocacy group aimed at supporting "LGBTQ+ organizations that are moving the needle for communities of all ages and backgrounds," as he wrote on his Instagram. Another stated goal of the Feel Something Foundation is to "abolish 'coming out' as a term used to define someone simply being themselves."

Adam told Attitude magazine: "I've worked with amazing LGBTQ+ organizations and charities over the years. The foundation will shine a light and support existing charities, whose work is pivotal in empowering the community."

According to Rolling Stone, the foundation shares its name with the first solo track Lambert had released in 2019, "Feel Something".

"This was written about me climbing out of the low period, defying my disillusionment, owning my needs and opening my heart," he wrote of the song at the time.

Founded by Lambert in 2019, the Feel Something Foundation is the result of a career traveling the world, meeting global members of the community, hearing their stories and witnessing first-hand the difficulties LGBTQ+ people continue to face in all areas of life. Having spent time throughout his career engaging in LGBTQ+ activism and as a member of the community himself, the foundation sees his philanthropy institutionalized into an organization with the aim to truly make a difference. With the vision to see LGBTQ+ communities of all ages and backgrounds enjoy full human rights within a fully-inclusive society, Feel Something Foundation first aims to ensure support is given to the myriad of issues that continue to disproportionately affect them. This will be achieved through working with charities that have a mission or project directly focused on impacting the LGBTQ+ community in areas of Education & the Arts; Homelessness; Suicide Prevention & Mental Health.

Feel Something Foundation will build its revenue through the personal charitable contributions of its founder, directors and with public funds raised through fundraising and awareness campaigns, events and initiatives. The first fundraiser will be initiated in the coming weeks with an online clothing auction of some of Lambert's best looks. Initial charities will be chosen based on those Lambert has worked with previously and that stand for the positive, progressive messages of the Feel Something Foundation in supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ communities.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's JASON HOOK Says DAVE MUSTAINE Is A 'Sweet Man'

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Jason Hook says that MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine is a "sweet man" who is "wonderful to be around."

MEGADETH is currently on the road in Europe as the support act for FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH. The trek kicked off on January 20 in Helsinki, Finland and will conclude on February 22 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Helsinki concert was MEGADETH's first since Mustaine was diagnosed with throat cancer and its first live appearance in 15 months.

Earlier today, Hook tweeted: "Just had my fist conversation with D Mustaine. Sweet man and had a lot of enlightening information about dealing with his current medical situation... be grateful, life is unpredictable. The Mega D's have been wonderful to be around. Thanks guys"

The 58-year-old MEGADETH leader revealed his cancer diagnosis last June on social media. Five months later, he gave an interview to Rolling Stone in which he said that he wasn't officially in remission but that he had finished the necessary treatment and had started rehabilitation. He also credited his faith for getting him through the ordeal.

Last month, Hook underwent surgery to have his gallbladder removed.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will release its eighth album, "F8", on February 28 via Better Noise Music.

CRADLE OF FILTH - "2019 Has Been A Massive Year"

"Every Facebook missive is going to be about just how good 2019 was for them and how 2020 will be even better moving forward," says Cradle Of Filth frontman Dani Filth.

"New them. New danger. This one sadly is absolutely no different, as 2019 e.h has been a massive year for Cradle Of Filth, having toured the world extensively from New York to New Zealand, Costa Rica to Costa Brava and everywhere in-between."

"We’ve narrowly missed two massive shows due to freak of nature weather, yet come out from both better off for our being harried by high winds and electrical storms. We’ve been on plane, train and tourbus through all kinds of turbulence in fact, but mainly through a monstrously hot Summer in Europe and Russia; we’ve visited Disneyland and Hobbiton; skydived off the Auckland Sky Tower; walked on many foreign beaches; seen a sloth sanctuary; climbed a mountain in Equador and stood on the Equator; visited pyramids; launched the ‘Pale Countess’ beer and a clothing line with ‘Dropdead’; we have driven ten hours through the Norwegian mountains and broken down far from anywhere on the Canadian border; we have lost luggage many times; had flights cancelled or just horrible delayed; eaten insects; finally released the ‘Cruelty And The Beast - Remistressed’ album after much debacle; played a killer one-off show at the prestigious London Palladium: fought, loved, laughed, partied, risen, partied, railed, collapsed, shone, un-shone, seen many strange and wonderful things and met many good friends... but above all else, we have been Metal to the hilt!"

"It’s been a killer year for the band thanks to our friends, family, awesome management team, our legendary Crewdle of Filth, our record company, booking agents, legal beagles, Dropdead, Killstar, Blackcraftcult, New Rock, Kate’s clothing, and of course, our loyal fans who have been with us, if not at one of the many shows we’ve played across the world, then in undeniable spirit."

"Thank-you one and all, we wing you oceans of our poisonous kisses plus a test-tube full of Ashok’s love juice!"

"2020e.h may well prove to be a defining year for all of us here on this humble rock floating in a squalid back-water of Space, but one thing you can be rest assured on, is that Cradle Of Filth will be as ever-present and ever-filthy as ever, with a new album and a plethora of live adventures to come."

"Stay tuned for many announcements in the coming few months."

Yours Immortally…

Ex-LAMB OF GOD Drummer CHRIS ADLER Pays Tribute To NEIL PEART: 'He Defined And Continues To Define The Drummer's Role'

Former LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler has paid tribute to Neil Peart, who died on January 7 in Santa Monica, California after a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The iconic RUSH drummer was 67 years old.

Earlier today, Adler released the following message to BLABBERMOUTH.NET: "I was a lil kid. I didn't know up or down regarding music. I rode BMX bikes and tried to score with the hip chick (name deleted).

"My mom, who recently passed (on my birthday at my birth time) built me a half-pipe in the backyard. It was legit. 11' with 18" of vert. She was rad. She also put a chain across it at night so dipshits like me wouldn't skate it and endanger her homeowners insurance. Smart chick.

"Anyways... While I flailed around trying to be the next Tony Hawk, I had some friends come by with some cool tapes to put in my boombox. Same time a kid down the road that did the BMX thing, but not the skating thing got a sweet drum kit from his folks. He was hell bent on learning everything RUSH. Yeah, by that time, I'd heard rumors. 'Dude...like...dude....you gotta check this out.' I didn't care. I still don't.

"I never wanted to play drums. I wanted to play guitar like Dave Mustaine, then go out and skate and most importantly land a rad chick. But something stuck about those tunes.

"I always went back to heavier stuff. Audio-wise, for me, it was kill or be killed. RUSH didn't fit in...but somehow...it was rad.

"What the hell are they talking about? That's weird. Man...wow...this drummer is sick.

"I never met Neil and I'm glad I did not.

"I've often been asked if I consider myself to be on his level. It's the wrong question and any answer is irrelevant.

"Alone he defined and continues to define the drummer's role. His outreach, as described above, is second to none and not definable. In many ways, he challenged me and in many ways showed me how.

"I've never listened to RUSH all that often, but its inescapable in my line of work.

"I'll miss him.

"Thank you, Neil."

LAMB OF GOD officially parted ways with Chris in July. His replacement is Art Cruz, who has previously played with PRONG and WINDS OF PLAGUE, and filled in for Adler on several LAMB OF GOD tours in 2018 and 2019.

When Adler's absence from LAMB OF GOD's summer 2018 tour was first announced, he released a statement saying that he had been undergoing physical and occupational therapy for injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident.

In addition to LAMB OF GOD, Adler has played drums with a number of metal artists, including MEGADETH, NITRO, BLOTTED SCIENCE and PROTEST THE HERO.

In 2018, Adler launched a management agency, Kintsugi Management. Less than a year old, the company currently works with two bands: BETRAYING THE MARTYRS from France and DYSCARNATE from the U.K.

OPETH Keyboardist Understands Fans' Frustration Over Lack Of Death Metal Vocals On Band's Recent Albums

Piero "Pie" Di Battista of Hop 'N' Music recently conducted an interview with keyboardist Joakim Svalberg of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH prior to the band's November 9 concert at Alcatraz in Milan, Italy. You can watch the entire chat below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the writing process for the band's latest studio album, "In Cauda Venenum":

Joakim: "Mike [Åkerfeldt, guitar/vocals] was in really good writing mode because we had some time off. We were going to take a leave of absence, like for a year, but it took him a few weeks and he started to write and being completely without any pressure. And he was really happy doing that. Before we knew it, it was like he got an album ready. It was, like, 'What?' We didn't even know. [Laughs] So he was really on the case."

On the decision to record the album in both English and Swedish:

Joakim: "This is actually a question for Mike, but I think I can answer it. He was driving his kids one day and he was, like, 'Hmmm… maybe I should try to write something in Swedish.' Like, 'Why not?' So he did. And, it actually turned out to be really good, I think. So that is the original version. And it really sank in and he was doing all these demos and we lived with the songs and it felt completely natural. But he decided he wanted to do an English version as well. It was really sort of at the last minute because he didn't want people to miss out on the album and not listen to it just because it's in a different language. It was a little bit of a compromise, but the original version is Swedish. I think it's the best."

On OPETH "closing its doors" to death metal, starting with 2011's "Heritage":

Joakim: "On the albums, it's not anymore like that. He [Åkerfeldt] felt he can't do any more with it to make it interesting anymore. He wanted to move on from that, but we're playing those death numbers anyway live, and we all love that, absolutely; it's just not on the albums anymore."

On what he would say to fans who wish OPETH would return to their original progressive death metal style:

Joakim: "There's a lot of fans that have that opinion. I can understand because that's how it started and that's how the band got famous to start. So I can really understand that. Sometimes people don't like too much of a change from that direction. And I understand that, too. It's just that you have to progress and not stay the same, which is very difficult to say about this band because it has always not been just hard-edged. There's always been elements of other things that are not death metal. The progression of this is that it's not anymore on the albums. I can really understand that some people miss that, but then again, you have to do what feels right; otherwise, it's not true. [If you do it] only to please certain people, then it's not really true if you don't feel like you want to do it."

Released in September via Moderbolaget / Nuclear Blast Entertainment, "In Cauda Venenum" landed at No. 13 on the U.K. chart and No. 5 on the German chart. The band's previous LP, 2016's "Sorceress", peaked at No. 11 on the U.K. chart, while 2014's "Pale Communion" entered the list at No. 14 and 2011's "Heritage" landed at No. 22.

DISTURBED Releases New Music Video For 'Hold On To Memories'

DISTURBED has released a new music video for the song "Hold On To Memories". The clip was directed by Matt Mahurin, who has previously directed DISTURBED's "The Sound Of Silence" music video. The band previously issued a live visual for the same track.

"Hold On To Memories"'s message is a powerful and universal one: as long as you keep someone's memory with you, a piece of them is still alive. The message is also a timely one, with many taking stock of the past year and decade.

During DISTURBED's live show, the band performs the song alongside a video collage of its favorite memories, with photos and videos of their friends and families, both here and gone. During this part of each show, lead vocalist David Draiman asks the crowd to actively create these memories: "The people who have left us are never completely gone. They stay in our memory, and I encourage each and every one of you to live every day of your lives like it's the last day of your life, making memories that last forever with the people you care about and love. Shine your light on this world, everyone. Make memories that will last forever and cut through the darkness." This message is also reflected in the song's lyrics: "So now go do the best things in life / Bring the fight to this world while you can/ Make the most of the rest of your life /Shine your light on this world while you can/ And hold on to memories/ Hold on to every moment/ To keep them alive."

Last September, DISTURBED's "No More" landed at position No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart. The track, which was the third single from the band's 2018 album "Evolution", marked DISTURBED's seventh straight No. 1 on the chart.

Each of DISTURBED's last seven singles has reached No. 1 on Mainstream Rock Songs, a feat unmatched by any artist.

DISTURBED has a total of 10 Mainstream Rock Songs No. 1s. THREE DAYS GRACE holds the record with 15 No. 1s, followed by SHINEDOWN at 14 and VAN HALEN with 13.

STONE SOUR Releases Demo Version Of 'Inside The Cynic' Song

STONE SOUR has released a demo version of the song "Inside The Cynic".

In a statement accompanying the YouTube release of the demo, STONE SOUR guitarist Josh Rand wrote: "This is the second song from the four that we recorded in 2000. It would end up on the 'Freddy Vs Jason' movie soundtrack, and as a bonus track for the Japanese release of the self-titled album."

Rand recently said that he has "no idea" when STONE SOUR will release a new studio album. Asked in an interview with Guitar World if the band has started working yet on a follow-up to 2017's "Hydrograd", Rand replied: "To be honest, the band is on hiatus right now with no timetable on a return. It's a mixture of needing a break, plus Corey wants to do a solo album, so I don't know when there will be new STONE SOUR music."

Rand hinted that the band will release something next summer which he can't talk about yet, but also told The Pulse Of Radio he's working on another project to keep fans happy during the hiatus. "I archive like everything that we've done, so starting at the top of [2020], every week I'm going to release a demo or an alternate version of a song, starting from the very beginning. And then throughout the entire year will get us up to 'Hydrograd'. So I'm pretty excited about that."

STONE SOUR has been off the road and out of sight since completing the touring cycle for its 2017 LP "Hydrograd". Taylor has been working with SLIPKNOT since then, recording and currently touring behind that group's sixth effort, "We Are Not Your Kind". Rand is currently promoting STONE SOUR's new live album, "Hello, You Bastards: Live In Reno", which came out on December 13.

Taylor also recently told WhatCulture that he has already written 26 songs for his long-in-the-works solo album, which he has hinted at recording over the years.

STEVE HARRIS's BRITISH LION: Behind-The-Scenes Video From First U.S. Tour

BRITISH LION kicked off its first U.S. tour on January 18 at Ace Café in Orlando, Florida. The trek will hit a number of cities, including San Antonio, Dallas, Memphis, Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale, before concluding on February 20 in New York.

Several behind-the-scenes clips from the first few days of the tour can be seen below.

BRITISH LION is the side project of Steve Harris, bassist and co-founder of metal icons IRON MAIDEN.

BRITISH LION's second album, "The Burning", was released on January 17 in digipack CD, double gatefold vinyl and digital download formats via Explorer1 Music (E1).

BRITISH LION comprises vocalist Richard Taylor, guitarists David Hawkins and Grahame Leslie, Steve Harris on bass and keyboards and drummer Simon Dawson.

Recorded, engineered and mixed at Barnyard Studios by Tony Newton and produced by Steve Harris, "The Burning" is crammed with powerful hard rock melodies.

Asked by the Tampa Bay Times what the itch is that BRITISH LION scratches that he doesn't get in his job with MAIDEN, Harris said: "I suppose playing small clubs and being close and personal with the audience. I love playing big places as well. I enjoy them all, and I'm very lucky that I can do them all. But also, it's clubs that I never played with MAIDEN, even in Europe. There's a famous club called the Milky Way in Amsterdam, which I managed to play with BRITISH LION, but I never did that with MAIDEN. There's places now that I'm going to be playing on this tour that I've never played before. So it's all new ground. It's a challenge. It's nice. I like a challenge."

Regarding what his hopes are for what he can accomplish on this tour, Harris said: "There's not enough years left in me to try and do some long-term project, to try to make sure something can be successful. That's not what we're doing it for. We're just going out and having fun. It's a good live band. People should come and check it out, and have a good night out."

DERANGED Reveal Deeds Of Ruthless Violence Album Details

Swedish death metal veterans, Deranged, will release a new studio album, Deeds Of Ruthless Violence, on March 27 via Agonia Records. Pre-order here.

"It's death metal like it was meant to be", says drummer and mastermind Rikard Wermén, who's been in charge of the band's steering wheel for nearly thirty years. "No gimmicks, no costumes, no stage show, no make up, no bullshit. Just straight up ruthless metal the violent and intense way."

Born in Sweden in 1991, Deranged are seasoned veterans of the death metal scene. The band's name was derived from a horror movie, and likewise horror became the main source of its artistic inspiration and lyrical expression. Contrary to its roots, Deranged distincts itself from other Swedish bands that started their journey around 1990's, and encompasses a different approach altogether, with a nod towards American death metal. Their sound is faster, technical, with several deathgrind and groove elements.

Deeds Of Ruthless Violence is Deranged's tenth studio album and first one to feature new vocalist, Johan Bergström (Visceral Bleeding). It was recorded at Berno Studio (Amon Amarth, The Crown, Witchery) in Malmö. The album's artwork keeps the same aesthetics as its predecessor, and was created by Mike Hrubovcak (Grave, Six Feet Under, Sinister).

ABYSMAL DAWN To Release Phylogenesis Album In April; "Hedonistic" Lyric Video Streaming

Six years after the release of their last full-length, Los Angeles' death metal masters, Abysmal Dawn, have returned with their long-awaited fifth studio album, Phylogenesis. The record is out on April 17 via Season of Mist, making it the band's debut to the label.

In conjunction with the album announcement, the band have shared the first single from the album, "Hedonistic". The song and an accompanying lyric video made by Aimed and Framed can be found below.

The band comment: "So here we are, album number five, six years after the release of our last album! It took a long time to get here but I can say without a doubt, this one is worth the wait. We pushed the limits of all the musicians in this band and everyone is extremely proud. We finally get to release the first single today and can't wait for you all to hear the whole thing.

"The album title Phylogenesis (fīlōˈjenəsəs) basically refers to an evolution of a species in biology. It could be applied to how we've evolved for the better as a band, but also how humanity has evolved for the worse. Lyrically the album became sort of concept album some what unintentionally. It deals a lot with things we encounter in our modern society and the maddening effect it has on the individual. 'Hedonistic,' in particular, is somewhat inspired by Maslow's Hierachy of Needs and that true happiness lies in purpose, not material pursuits.

"Thank you to all our fans that have supported us in our absence and waited patiently. This album is for you just as much as it is for us. Truly, thank you from the bottom of our black hearts. We'll see you on the road with Vader, Hideous Divinity and Vitriol soon and expect even more of us in 2020!"

Phylogenesis can be pre-ordered here.

The artwork for Phylogenesis, which was created by Par Olofson, can be found below along with the tracklisting.

Tracklisting:

"Mundane Existence"
"The Path Of The Totalitarian"
"Hedonistic"
"A Speck In The Fabric Of Eternity"
"Coerced Evolution"
"True To The Blind"
"Soul-Sick Nation"
"The Lament Configuration"
"Flattening Of Emotions" (Death cover)

"Hedonistic" lyric video:

OUTLAWS Streaming New Sing "Southern Rock Will Never Die"

Southern rock icons, Outlaws, have released a new single, "Southern Rock Will Never Die". The song is taken from the forthcoming studio album, Dixie Highway.

"Southern Rock Will Never Die" salutes fallen comrades that include Skynyrd’s Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines, Tucker’s Toy and Tommy Caldwell, Duane and Greg Allman, and The CDB’s ‘Taz’ DiGregorio and Tommy ‘TC’ Crain, as well as Outlaws’ co-founders Billy Jones, Frank O’Keefe and Hughie Thomasson.

“It echoes the spirit of these founders of this genre,” says Henry Paul. “The energy that motivated all of us back then is still inspiring us now.”

The Dixie Highway originally connected Chicago to Miami - the first vital thoroughfare between the Midwest and the South - before eventually being replaced in the late 1920s by the US Highway system. And while fragments of the original road still exist in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio, it remains a route that carries echoes of its past as well as being an enduring symbol of American discovery, fortitude and pride. And on their new album Dixie Highway, southern rock icons Outlaws take fans on what is literally and figuratively the ride of a lifetime.

For more than 45 years, the Outlaws have flown the Southern Rock banner like no other band in the land. Known for their unique triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies, the Tampa-born group’s first three albums on Arista - featuring hits like "There Goes Another Love Song", "Green Grass & High Tides", "Knoxville Girl" and "Freeborn Man" - became southern rock milestones, while relentless tours with peers like The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band - as well as The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones - solidified the reputation of ‘The Florida Guitar Army’ as genre legends.

And since the release of their 2012 comeback album It’s About Pride and acclaimed 2016 double album Legacy Live, the Outlaws - led by Henry Paul and co-founder/drummer Monte Yoho along with Randy Threet (bass, vocals), Steve Grisham (guitars, vocals), Dave Robbins (keyboards, vocals), Dale Oliver (guitars, vocals), Jaran Sorenson (drums) and guest guitarist Billy Crain - have not only re-emerged as what fans call ‘Southern Rock’s Last Band Standing’, but as a dedicated band of brothers who still write, play and perform with the skill, grit and fire of acts a fraction of their age.

With the release of Dixie Highway, the Outlaws once again blaze a route that is as familiar to the faithful as it is unflinching in its mission. “I want the fans to see the band’s growth, to recognize the quality of the music,” says Henry Paul. “It’s focused on where we come from, where we’re headed and how much fun we’re still having on the ride.”

And from the state-of-the-art production to its throwback double-album gatefold vinyl, Dixie Highway remains a route whose legacy has a sound and spirit all its own. “We wrote and recorded this album to reinforce the notion that the Outlaws still matter,” Henry Paul says, “and that southern rock will always matter. It’s a message we’re proud to bring into the 21st century.”

Dixie Highway will be released through SPV/Steamhammer on February 28 on CD DigiPak, 2LP version, download and stream. Pre-order here.

"Overnight From Athens"
