DESPISED ICON History Lesson In 900 Seconds; Video

In the new video below, vocalist Alex Erian of Canadian deathcore pioneers, Despised Icon, offers a 900 second history lesson on the band.

Says the band: "Learn about everything from when we first started out, up until our latest release, Purgatory, out now on Nuclear Blast Records."

Purgatory was produced by Yannick St-Amand, Eric Jarrin and Alex Erian. The music was recorded by Despised Icon's former guitar player, now current front of house engineer Yannick St-Amand while the vocals were recorded by close friend Antoine Lussier of Ion Dissonance. Mixing and mastering were completed by Cryptopsy's very own Christian Donaldson at The Grid in Montreal.

Without a doubt their most dynamic venture to date, Despised Icon have a fresh and energy filled arrangement just waiting to see the light of day in the form of Purgatory. For many years, they have laid the foundation of Deathcore and spearheaded different sounds and movements within the genre.

Purgatory is available in the following formats:

SLAYER Warns Fans Against Fake Tickets For 2020 Comeback Performance

SLAYER has warned fans about fake tickets for a 2020 performance by the band at a Swedish festival.

Earlier today, SLAYER took to social media to write: "WARNING TO SLAYER FANS! There are tickets being offered on Viagogo for a SLAYER performance at Sweden Rocks [sic] June 2020. Buyer beware this is a resale site with inaccurate information SLAYER WILL NOT PERFORMING."

SLAYER played its final concert on November 30, 2019 at the Forum in Los Angeles. One day later, Ayesha King, wife of SLAYER guitarist Kerry King, said that there is "not a chance in hell" that the thrash metal icons will reunite for more shows following the completion of their farewell tour.

Back in April 2018, Tom Araya's wife said that he had not questioned his decision to embark on one final SLAYER tour before the band called it quits.

Sandra Araya, who has been married to the SLAYER frontman for more than 20 years, told the Metal Pulp And Paper web site that the announcement that the band was pulling the plug on its nearly four-decade-long career didn't come as a surprise to her. "Not to me," she said. "I can't comfortably go into too much detail. I'll just leave it with a no."

Asked if the decision to end SLAYER was a difficult one for Tom and Kerry to make, Sandra said: "Tom never second-guesses any decision he makes. I have no idea about Kerry."

Sandra also confirmed that she and Tom had "some ideas and plans" for how they plan to spend their post-SLAYER years, although she did not offer any details.

When SLAYER first announced that it was embarking on its final tour back in January 2018, Ayesha assured fans that they would "always get music" from her husband.

King has said in previous interviews that his post-SLAYER musical efforts would not be much different from the sound fans have grown accustomed to hearing from him.

WARNING TO SLAYER FANS!

PARKWAY DRIVE Announces 'Viva The Underdogs' Soundtrack For Documentary Film

Australian metal band PARKWAY DRIVE has announced "Viva The Underdogs", the soundtrack to the band's documentary film by the same name, to be released March 27. Featuring 11 live tracks from the band's 2019 headlining set at German heavy metal festival Wacken Open Air, the soundtrack also includes three studio tracks recorded in German; "Würgegriff (Vice Grip)", "Die Leere (The Void)" and "Schattenboxen (Shadow Boxing)", which features German rapper Casper. Today, the band shares both the live version and the German version ("Die Leere") of "The Void", previously off the band's sixth studio album, "Reverence".

"This was hands down one of the most unique projects we've undertaken,” says vocalist Winston McCall on recording "Die Leere" ("The Void"). "The idea of taking our songs and interpreting them through another language was a massive challenge, but considering the amount of time, love and support that has been shown to us over the years we wanted to commit to doing the project with full integrity. The result is every effort being made to translate the meaning, spirit, and conviction of these songs in a language that is not our own. We hope the result helps to strengthen the connection this music creates. We offer you these songs out of respect and our heartfelt thanks for all the times you have sung them with us in their original forms. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed the process of creating them."

The documentary "Viva The Underdogs" features over a decade of behind-the-scenes personal footage, coupled with unprecedented access to the band's most explosive live tours and world's biggest music festivals. The film gives an incredibly honest and candid look at PARKWAY DRIVE's 15-year underdog journey; the good times, battles, triumphs, and sacrifices.

"Viva The Underdogs" soundtrack track listing

ZAKK WYLDE To OZZY OSBOURNE: 'You Are Loved More Than You Will Ever Know'

Zakk Wylde has sent a message of support to Ozzy Osbourne after the legendary heavy metal vocalist went public with his Parkinson's disease battle.

Ozzy revealed on Tuesday (January 21) in an interview on "Good Morning America" that he was diagnosed with the progressive neurological condition. The singer received the diagnosis last February after several health issues, including a near-deadly staph infection and a fall that damaged his nervous system. He's treating the disease with medication.

On Wednesday (January 22), Wylde — who has played guitar in Ozzy's band on and off for more than 30 years — tweeted: "BIG BL LOVE & THANKS To EVERYBODY Out There Sending The BOSS Your POSITIVE ENERGY & PRAYERS OF STRENGTH!!! OZ – YOU'RE THE GREATEST!!! YOU ARE LOVED MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW!!! XO tBLSt SDMF @OzzyOsbourne"

The BLACK SABBATH frontman's wife Sharon explained that Ozzy has "PRKN 2, which is a form of Parkinson's. There's so many different types of Parkinson's. It's not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body. It's like you have a good day, a good day and then a really bad day."

Osbourne added he has been experiencing other symptoms that may or may not stem from Parkinson's, saying: "I got a numbness down this arm for the surgery; my legs keep going cold. I don't know if that's the Parkinson's or what, you know, but that's — see, that's the problem. Because they cut nerves when they did the surgery. I'd never heard of nerve pain, and it's a weird feeling."

Sharon said that Ozzy will head to Switzerland in April to see a professor who specializes in helping people with their immune systems, in order to distinguish between her husband's symptoms. Sharon remarked: "We're going to go wherever we can go to seek answers," to which Ozzy added, "We're lucky enough to be able to afford to do that."

Ozzy said that he feels "better now" that he's come clean about his illness, and expressed hope that his fans are "there for me because I need them."

Ozzy is scheduled to return to North American arenas for another leg of his "No More Tours 2" tour this spring, while his first new solo album in 10 years, "Ordinary Man", is due for release on February 21.

NEAERA Debut Music Video For New Single "Catalyst"

Founded in 2003, Neaera has been with Metal Blade Records since 2004, releasing six albums during this time. The band announced their farewell tour in 2015 and have been on hiatus since then - until now. Neaera has re-formed and is ready to release a new self-titled album via Metal Blade Records on February 28.

For a preview of Neaera, the video for the new single, "Catalyst", can be seen below.

Neaera's fire was first rekindled when the band played two exclusive shows in 2018. "We have been overwhelmed by the reactions," comments singer Benjamin Hilleke. "None of us was expecting that and it was the moment when the fire was de-fact again!"

A little while later Tobias Buck started to come up with new song ideas: "I just really got up to it again and met directly with our friend and later producer Trisan Hachmeister to record a few things in his studio for testing purposes. The other guys were immediately fished-on from the first auditions. A few months later, we sat down together at one table and decided to record another album together."

For the mixing and mastering the band got Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Heaven Shall Burn, a.o.) on board. "Hansen already did a great job with our albums 'Let The Tempest Come' and 'Armamentarium'. This is exactly the sound we wanted to have back on this album," says Buck happily.

The album is available for pre-order here in the following formats:

- digipak-CD
- box set (digipak CD, bonus demo CD, pin, sweat band, patch - limited to 3000 copies)
- 180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
- clear w/ black smoke vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 500 copies)
- clear / white marbled vinyl (EMP exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
- dark red / brown marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
- clear / grey white swirl vinyl (EU Shop exclusive - limited to 100 copies)
- ochre brown marbled vinyl (US exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
* exclusive bundles with shirts, plus digital options are also available!

Neaera is playing an exclusive club show on February 29 in their home town of Münster, Germany. Tickets for this intimate happening are only available via the pre-order bundle.

Founded in 2003, Neaera has been with Metal Blade Records since 2004, releasing six albums during this time. For their upcoming self-titled record, they decided to work with professionals and studios that have contributed to the band's history: drums were recorded in the Docma Klang Studio in Osnabrück (where the demo was recorded in 2004); Jacob Hansen handled mixing and mastering duties; artwork was created by Terje Johnsen (who also handled the art for 2007's Armamentarium, 2009's Omnicide - Creation Unleashed, 2010's Forging The Eclipse). The result is an album that reflects 100% of Neaera's trademarks.

HAREM SCAREM To Release Change The World Album In March; "The Death Of Me" Music Video Streaming

Harem Scarem's new studio album, Change The World, will be released on March 6 via Frontiers Music Srl. The first single and video from the album, "The Death Of Me", is out now. Watch the clip below, and pre-order the album on CD, Vinyl, T-shirt Bundle, or Digital, here.

When a discussion arises on who the current heavyweights of the melodic hard rock scene are, the list of names being bantered about cannot avoid a mention of Harem Scarem. And certainly for good reason. After a five year hiatus, in 2013 the band reunited to re-record from scratch their milestone release, Mood Swings. Since then, Harem Scarem have consistently released high quality studio albums, with Thirteen and United being shining examples of the band showcasing their amazing trademark sound. At the same time, these albums offered a stylistic progression which makes Harem Scarem a band to point to for the evolution of the genre.

The new record, Change The World, is a logical next step for Harem Scarem. While it isn't a million miles from where United left off, it still shows a band at the top of their game. A cohesive unit still able to deliver a power-rock-packed punch, swaggering riffs, and hooks to die for. Harry Hess and Pete Lesperance without a doubt show the world that their partnership still works.

"We really only have one goal when we start working on a record and that is to try and write the best songs we can,” says Pete Lesperance, "In the beginning, Harry and I work individually on parts and than bring them together to see if we have a good starting point for some songs. I think we've finally found our stride (I should hope so after 30 years of being a band) and we just try to keep ourselves happy musically, but deliver something that we feel the fans will like!"

With the addition of Mike Vassos on bass, Harem Scarem are returning and ready to dominate.

Tracklisting:

"Change The World"
"Aftershock"
"Searching For Meaning"
"The Death Of Me"
"Mother Of Invention"
"No Man’s Land"
"In The Unknown"
"Riot In My Head"
"No Me Without You"
"Fire & Gasoline"
"Swallowed By The Machine"

"The Death Of Me" video:

Lineup:

Harry Hess: Lead & Backing Vocals, Keyboards
Pete Lesperance: Guitars
Creighton Doane: Drums
Mike Vassos: Bass
Darren Smith: Backing Vocals

GARY MOORE - Listen To "Still Got The Blues" From Upcoming Live From London Album

Mascot Label Group recently announced the January 31 release of Gary Moore - Live From London. Listen to "Still Got The Blues" from the upcoming release, below:

Some shows are so momentous, they pass into rock 'n' roll folklore. When Gary Moore stepped onto the stage of London's Islington Academy on December 2, 2009, it was a true one-off, showcasing one of blues-rock's biggest names in an intimate club setting. Nobody in the sell-out crowd that night suspected the great Irish bluesman was close to the end. But when Moore passed away fourteen months later, aged just 58, the show took on added poignancy, cherished as one of his last stands, kept alive in the memories of those who attended.

Now, a decade later, the release of Live From London on Mascot/Provogue resurrects the much-missed Irishman, bringing his blazing talents back into the spotlight.

It was a never-to-be-repeated night, spoken of in a reverential whisper amongst blues-rock aficionados. But now, with Live From London, you can be there too, thanks to a live album so immersive that listeners can practically feel the crush of the crowd and the heat from the valve amps.

Due for release on CD box set, colored 2LP and digital, you can pre-order the album here.

Tracklisting:

"Oh, Pretty Woman"
"Bad For You Baby"
"Down The Line"
"Since I Met You Baby"
"Have You Heard"
"All Your Love"
"Mojo Boogie"
"I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know"
"Too Tired" / "Gary's Blues 1"
"Still Got The Blues"
"Walking By Myself"
"The Blues Is Alright"
"Parisienne Walkways"

RUSH's Longtime Friend Says Claims That NEIL PEART Couldn't Speak Before His Death Are 'Not Accurate'

Donna Halper — the woman who is credited with discovering RUSH while working at an Ohio radio station back in 1974 — says it is "inaccurate" to say that drummer Neil Peart was unable to speak in the months leading up to his death.

Halper appeared to be responding to a recent interview with Sully Erna, where the GODSMACK frontman said that his "friend" Peart "was in a wheelchair and he couldn't speak" as of around a year before he passed on January 7 following a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

On Saturday (January 18), Halper took to her Twitter to write: "Sad to say, there are some rumors about Neil Peart's final months circulating on social media. The vast majority are inaccurate. As for me, I choose to remember Neil as he was, and I want to respect his family's privacy during this difficult time."

She added in follow-up tweets: "Normally, I would remain silent and let people say what they want to say, but this is different. My friendship with RUSH is something I take very seriously, and I will defend the truth as much as I can. It's the least I can do.

"But it ended the way he wanted, surrounded by his family & best friends. (By the way, he was able to speak, almost till the very end, I am told.) Anyway, I'm just sorry there is no cure for the kind of cancer he had. May he rest in peace.

"That's the only reason I decided to say something. I hope folks understand. This is not about me. It's about respecting Neil's memory and letting him rest in peace.

"Yes, it is true that Neil fought his disease bravely. This kind of cancer has taken a number of wonderful people from us. But he never gave up, and he did not want folks to know how sick he was.

"I don't know whether he had the energy to keep a journal. But I do know that claims he couldn't speak are not accurate. I assume if he wrote anything, it will come out eventually. I don't think this is the right time for me to ask, however.

"I was there for it all, from 1974 till they stopped performing as a band. We've kept in touch for more than forty-five years, and I feel very fortunate to be even a small part of their story.

"I've been friends with the members of the band (and in some cases, their families) for more than four decades. It's something that means a lot to me. So, I'm getting my information from folks who were there, is all I'm saying.

"There's a normal human tendency to put oneself at the center of a story. I'm not calling anyone a liar or saying anyone intentionally misstated facts. I'm just saying Neil's family & closest friends have a different version of events, and I defer to them."

According to NPR, Halper is credited with getting RUSH its U.S. record deal and breaking the band: In 1974, while working as music director and a DJ at the legendary Cleveland radio station WMMS, she played an import copy of RUSH's early single, "Working Man", which promptly took off. The buzz soon led to a record deal for the band, which singled out Halper for special thanks in the liner notes of its self-titled debut album.

In a 2008 interview with The Patriot Ledger, Halper stated about RUSH: "I can tell you that success has not spoiled [the members of RUSH] at all. They've had many gold albums, performed all over the world, and have earned the acclaim of a devoted fan base. Critics have been somewhat scornful of them, but their millions of fans adore them."

At the time, RUSH bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee spoke fondly about Halper, saying: "She is a fiercely passionate and highly opinionated woman and is a tireless supporter of RUSH.

"We have remained friends through the years and she always makes a point of paying us a visit whenever we are near her home."

Multi-Instrumentalist / Producer LEO MORACCHIOLI Pays Tribute To NEIL PEART And RUSH With Metal Cover Of "Tom Sawyer"; Video Available

Norway-based multi-instrumentalist Leo Moracchioli, who has made for himself releasing metal covers primarily of famous mainstream pop and rock songs, has recorded a cover of the Rush classic "Tom Sawyer" in tribute to drummer Neil Peart. He posted the video below along with the following message:

"R.I.P Neil Peart! I can´t say I was the biggest Rush fan, but they have definitely had a huge impact on lots of bands that I am huge fans of. And also I love this song..."

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in support of a memorial in Lakeside Park (located in Port Dalhousie, a suburb of St. Catharines, Ontario) for late Rush drummer, Neil Peart, who passed away on January 7 after a three-year battle with brain cancer (glioblastoma).

A message from O'Connor Initiative Inc. founder, Christopher O'Connor, states: "The O'Connor Initiative Inc., (OCI) a local non-profit that operates the Port Dalhousie Supper Market and Summer in White community events, proposes this GoFundMe in support of a Neil Peart Memorial in Lakeside Park. If everyone who signed petitions gave $10 we would exceed our goal. Memorials, however large or small, are expensive.

"We acknowledge the merit of the many suggestions on how to honour Mr. Peart since his passing. In order to effectively create an impact we ought to be concerted in our efforts as a local and global community. This fund is to act as a conduit for people from all around the world to participate in the concerted effort to honour Mr. Peart's legacy. This fund is non-specific in nature as to respect the long-term process of creating an appropriate memorial. It is not for our organization alone to propose a singular means of memorial.

"At this time there are many unknowns and we will be seeking collaboration with stakeholders, including the City of St. Catharines, the online/offline community, and of course, Rush and respective family members. It is our hope that there will be a committee of stewards to guide this project to fruition and we hope to enable their efforts through this fundraiser.

"Lastly, we acknowledge that Rush has encouraged supporters to make donations to a cancer research or charity of their choice. If consensus is not reached over an appropriate amount of time by stakeholders OCI will recommend donating the funds to a local Niagara organization in line with the Band's recommendation.

"We ask for patience during this process as there are many moving parts. We will do our best to act in a collaborative and open manner to ensure the most appropriate actions are taken to create something that tastefully honours Mr. Peart."

Find the GoFundMe page here.

Rush bandmates Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson posted the following message in the wake of flood of tributes honouring Neil Peart:

I AM Signs With eOne; New Album Due In Late 2020

Texas Death act, I Am, has signed a worldwide deal with Entertainment One (eOne) with plans to release a new LP later this year.

The group is headed over to Europe this weekend for a full run with Australia's Thy Art Is Murder, Carnifex, Fit For An Autopsy, and Rivers Of Nihil for an entire month of touring. I Am will return to the States and head right back out on the road with Spite and Varials.

"When we were approached by eOne we knew it’d be a perfect fit," says vocalist Andrew Hileman.

"After talking with them and sharing ideas we’re so excited to put out some badass records with them. We’re thrilled to be on our way to Europe right now for our upcoming tour with Thy art is Murder and we’re glad to be representing eOne and Texas Death."

I Am have come to embody the subgenre known as "Texas Death," and they have no qualms about saying so. While the band takes influence from "The Big Four," their homage to artists like Pantera, Power Trip, and Cro-Mags is undeniable. Their signature style of dive-bomb guitars and guitar-driven riffs has come to define the genre.

Started by vocalist Andrew Hileman in 2011, I Am quickly gained recognition in the great state of Texas of being a band that was meant for bigger things. After paying their dues and touring relentlessly, solidifying Texas Death across North America on tour with bands like The Acacia Strain, For The Fallen Dreams, and Kublai Khan, I Am released their debut album, Life Through Torment in February of 2017.

In 2018 the band began recording the new album with Randy Lebeouf at Graphic Nature Audio (Kublai Khan, Left Behind, Great American Ghost) with a vision of capturing their chaotic live performance and power they'd become known for. Hard 2 Kill was released in November of 2018 to some serious critical acclaim.

Find the band's tour itinerary here.

I Am lineup:

Andrew Hileman - Vocals
Tom Reyes - Guitar
Chris Burgess - Guitar
Ian Scott - Drums
Erik Rodriguez - Bass

MARCO HIETALA Says NIGHTWISH Has A 'Very Open-Minded Situation' When It Comes To Songwriting

Australia's Keen Eye 4 Concerts recently conducted an interview with NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala (a.k.a. Marko Hietala). You can listen to the entire chat via the SoundCloud widget below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On whether the forthcoming English version of his "Pyre Of The Black Heart" solo album has a common thread lyrically:

Marco: "Nope. It's not a theme. It's a bunch of stories and I've been writing them for quite a few years, some in Finnish, some in English. Lots of music, and then all this started to come together a couple of years back when NIGHTWISH started to have a 'sabbatical,' I called it. A couple of friends of mine started to see what kind of structures and arrangements they might be able to help me with. They helped me a lot. Then they ended up playing on the album. Mr. Tuomas Wäinölä on guitar and Mr. Vili Ollila on keyboards were my main partners in crime. Tuomas actually got so into that he ended up recording the most of the album and producing it. I had a bunch of good people there."

On whether some of the songs for "Pyre Of The Black Heart" were determined not to be a good fit for a NIGHTWISH studio album:

Marco: "Some of it is definitely that. I think some of the things I did on the solo album could have gone over to NIGHTWISH, maybe, but in the end, this was a bunch of songs that I came up with by myself. There's always a continuation as time goes and when you do something with your situation at the moment, then you tend to use your resources for that. So, this is a bunch of songs that I did, and of course, when you're doing a solo album, there is a chance to go to totally different soundscapes and vibes and outcomes, but I didn't have to think about the band. When you write about the band, it is just right and proper to think about the strengths of the people that you play with. With NIGHTWISH, it's been a very open-minded situation with writing. Anything that we write, we use. Of course, then you tend to see that maybe we shouldn't do some 'shockabilly.' That might be too much different. I don't know if it is. We did some jazz on 'Imaginaerum'."

On the musical direction of "Pyre Of The Black Heart":

Marco: "I'd say that it falls into the genre of prog rock. Not because of the infamous side of prog — the thematic over an artistic thing that doesn't really hold your interest until you're really into that side yourself. We wanted to do something that would be different and sound-wise, this is probably a prog album because there's so many things incorporated to basic rock, there are machinery rhythms and easy stuff and strings and whatever. Like you said, it's a versatile album. Therefore, it probably falls into the prog rock category. Then, when we were doing the songs and putting down the demo versions, Tuomas and Ville dug in — the guitar player and the keyboard player. We paid attention that these songs that we working on would have an identity of their own, that they would stand as one piece as a song, and also as part of the album. We were looking for an identity for each and every song was also why it probably became so versatile."

On what has been the biggest highlight and achievement for him since joining NIGHTWISH in 2001:

Marco: "I think the greatest achievement at this moment is the age of the group. Since Finnish metal started to come out to the world in the '90s, we've been the ones that are still alive. So, we've done something right. Of course, there are highlights that, at the moment, sound like the world is ours, like the first time ever Tarja [Turunen] was in the band, for instance, the first show we pulled over ten thousand people with just us. That was a great moment, playing in front of eighty thousand people at Wacken or Rock In Rio has been great. Rock In Rio, because it's been such an iconic festival throughout a few decades now, so it's nice to go there. These kinds of things. They are all highlights. I don't know which one I could put as number one ahead of everything else."

The English version of "Pyre Of The Black Heart" will arrive on January 24 via Nuclear Blast. The album was issued in Finland last May under the title "Mustan Sydämen Rovio".

BERZERKER LEGION Feat. Members Of HYPOCRISY, VADER, DARK FUNERAL And More Streaming New Song "A World In Despair"

Berzerker Legion are streaming the new song, "A World In Despair", featured on their first album, Obliterate The Weak, out on January 31 via Listenable Records. Pre-order the album here, and listen to the song below.

Berzerker Legion was founded in 2016 by guitarists Tomas Elofsson (Hypocrisy) and Alwin Zuur (Asphyx) with a vision to create death metal of the most belligerent quality, they recruited a lineup of solid well-known musicians consisting of James Stewart (Vader) on drums, Jonny Pettersson (Wombbath) on vocals and Fredrik Isaksson (Dark Funeral) on bass to complete the Legion.

Vocalist Jonny Pettersson explains the lyrical theme of Obliterate The Weak: "The lyrical concept is based around how religion is poisoning the world, and even after so many years of evolution, development, we still have huge parts of the world that believes in a fairytale, people who believe that this fairytale is worth going to war over, worth killing for and uses as an excuse for truly malevolent acts. These are weak minded sheep that will do anything in the name of whatever god they believe in. Obliterate The Weak draws from the will to eradicate all forms of religion and tells a story of atrocities made in the name of a fiction."

WEDNESDAY 13 Releases Lyric Video For "Monster" Feat. CRISTINA SCABBIA

Just days away from kicking off their North American tour, Wednesday 13 and his boo crew have debuted a new lyric video for the latest single, “Monster” (feat. Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil) from their recently released album, Necrophaze, that is available now from Nuclear Blast Records.

“'Monster' is the 1st Wednesday 13 song recorded to feature guest vocals. I wanted something different than I had ever tried before and I wanted a female vocalist. Cristina was the perfect choice for this song. I gave her the lyrics and some minor details, and she came back with what you hear. She totally floored us with her amazing vocal range and adding a new element never heard on one of our songs before.” - Wednesday 13

“This collaboration was born from blackness. Wednesday and I are both fans of the darkest vision of art and music, and when I was asked to sing with him for the song 'Monster', I immediately visualized his concept and shared it with pleasure. What I love about this song is that some people in life are taking the worst out of us... but demonizing it all and pushing away the tension through notes is the best thing to do.” - Cristina Scabbia

ARCHON ANGEL Feat. ZAK STEVENS Steaming New Song "Rise"

Frontiers Music Srl will release Archon Angel's debut album, Fallen, on February 14. Pre-order the album here, and listen to the song "Rise" below.

Archon Angel was born from a meeting between producer/guitarist Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere) and former Savatage, Circle II Circle, and current T.S.O. lead vocalist Zak Stevens during the making of Timo Tolkki's Avalon's Return To Eden album, of which Aldo produced and played guitar and Zak did some guest lead vocals. The two soon started talking to Frontiers about the concept of working on new music together, which was met with great enthusiasm from the label. Aldo submitted to Zak some song ideas which were reminiscent of the classic Savatage sound, the two felt the magic was there, and thus no time was wasted in getting together to craft an absolutely striking metal album. Aldo was also helped in the songwriting department by some of the most outstanding writers and musicians from the Italian rock scene including Simone Mularoni (of DGM and Sweet Oblivion) and Alessandro Del Vecchio (Aldo’s bandmate in Edge of Forever and of course Jorn, Hardline, etc.).

The album itself deals with a central character, the "Archon", who is a modern day angel figure. The idea goes back to the religious system of Gnosticism. The only difference is that we are immersing the Archon's story into modern-day times. The Archon is a medium who brings messages to God (Demiurge) from the people of Earth. The only real concept to the albums is that they simply follow the story and life and times of the modern day "Archon" and his life as he is called upon to protect the people of earth through frightening, turbulent times.

If Savatage are a favorite of yours, then Archon Angel's Fallen may well be your album of the year in 2020.

Tracklisting:

"Fallen"
"The Serpent"
"Rise"
"Under The Spell"
"Twilight"
"Faces Of Innocence"
"Hit The Wall"
"Who's In The Mirror"
"Brought To The Edge"

ALTER BRIDGE Releases 'Godspeed' Lyric Video

ALTER BRIDGE has released the official lyric video for the song "Godspeed". The track — described as an uplifting musical memorial for anyone who has lost someone — is taken from the band's latest album, "Walk The Sky", which was released in October via Napalm Records. According to a press release, the 14-track follow-up to 2016's "The Last Hero" is a "complete career retrospective drawing upon elements from each of the band's previous releases to create something new."

ALTER BRIDGE is getting ready to launch the first 2020 leg of its "Walk The Sky" tour. The band will play a kick-off show in Lake Charles, Louisiana at the Golden Nugget Casino on January 31 before jumping onboard ShipRocked as co-headliner alongside HALESTORM. Back on land, the band will make stops in Nashville, Tennesee; Indianapolis, Indiana; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Los Angeles, California, among others, before wrapping up on February 27 in Spokane, Washington. This leg will be just the beginning of what is shaping up to be a robust year of tour around the globe for ALTER BRIDGE. with more shows to be announced in the future.

Guitarist Mark Tremonti told Kerrang! magazine about "Walk The Sky": "It's kinda like a [revered horror maestro] John Carpenter movie — this old-school synth-wave kind of vibe. Somebody might hear the record and have no idea that was intended, but for a batch of songs, I tapped into some old loops that I either created or found randomly online, and worked with them in the background to inspire me to go in a different direction. I loved working like that. We challenge ourselves to not repeat ourselves and find new inspiration to add a different layer to what we do. It's particularly challenging when you've had so many records, but when I showed Myles [Kennedy, vocals/guitar] what I was thinking, he absolutely loved it and was on board right away."

As for how "Walk The Sky" compares to the rest of ALTER BRIDGE's discography, Mark said: "It's hard to completely get away from who we are — the same four guys in the band — but everyone who's heard the record says it has its own personality and doesn't sound like any particular ALTER BRIDGE record. But that being said, it's familiar ALTER BRIDGE territory, and Myles has said it's kind of the answer to 'AB III'. That was a very brooding and dark lyrical record, whereas this one is the yang to the yin of that. 'AB III' was kind of about a loss of faith and not believing. Myles was having a dark moment in that time and he wrote the majority of the lyrics. This is more of an enlightening, Zen kind of record. It's not a preachy record by any means; it's more of a free-spirited kind of thing."

SODOM Recruits Drummer TONI MERKEL

German thrash metal veterans SODOM have recruited Toni Merkel as their new drummer. He joins the band as the replacement for Stefan "Husky" Hüskens, who announced his departure from SODOM earlier in the month.

Says the group: "Flying under the radar for a long time, it's a dream coming true for [Toni]. Brace yourself to get your face smashed by his awesome drumming!"

Added Toni: "I am very proud to anounce that I am the new SODOM drummer and really looking forward to work and rehearse with these awesome guys for the next album and live shows. See you soon!!!"

In a statement explaining his exit from SODOM, Hüskens said that "some changes" at his full-time job, "as well as a few other matters," were to blame for his decision to leave.

This past November, SODOM released a new EP, "Out Of The Frontline Trench", via SPV/Steamhammer. The effort contained three brand new tracks as well as new recordings (studio and live) of two SODOM classics.

Joining frontman Thomas "Angelripper" Such on the EP were guitarists Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik (also formerly of KREATOR, ASSASSIN) and Yorck Segatz (BEYONDITION) plus Hüskens.

Blackfire previously played with SODOM on the seminal albums "Persecution Mania", "Mortal Way Of Live" and "Agent Orange".

Former SODOM guitarist Bernd "Bernemann" Kost and drummer Markus "Makka" Freiwald released a joint statement in January 2018 claiming that they were fired from the band by Tom via messaging platform WhatsApp even before Tom had a chance to hear any of the material the duo had been working on for the group's next album.

Video: JOEY KRAMER Blocked From Entering AEROSMITH Rehearsal By Security Guards

Joey Kramer says that he is "extremely disappointed" by a judge's refusal to reinstate his membership in AEROSMITH.

The Superior Court judge in Plymouth County, Massachusetts decided the drummer can't force his bandmates to let him perform with them at Sunday's Grammy Awards, even after he flew to Los Angeles and was turned away from a practice on over the weekend.

Earlier today, Kramer issued the following statement:

"Although I'm extremely disappointed by the Judge's ruling today, I respect it. I knew filing a lawsuit was a bit of an uphill battle considering that the corporate documents don't reference any process for a band member returning from an injury or illness. However, the band waited until January 15th to tell me that they weren't letting me play at the awards ceremonies this week. I can hold my head high knowing that I did the right thing — to fight for my right to celebrate the band's success that I have dedicated the better part of my life to helping build.

"The truth speaks for itself. Ever since I injured my foot last August and went through many hours of physical therapy to heal, not once did the band in its entirety offer to rehearse with me. That is a fact. I was also sent the full rehearsal schedule on January 18th and flew to LA the next day to rehearse and have many texts and emails stating the band can't wait for my return. That's also a fact. When I showed up to rehearse, I was greeted by two security guards who prohibited me from entering.

"The band's offer to allow me to participate in this week's MusiCares and Grammy celebrations for red carpet photo ops only, is appreciated; however, with a fill-in drummer playing on stage at two events honoring our collective musical contributions, it is extremely hurtful to me. I am a professional musician who is eager to return to my rightful place with AEROSMITH.

"I want to thank my fans for the incredible outpouring of support and for sharing my goal of taking my place on stage as one of the five founding members of AEROSMITH and continuing to play the music I love."

The 69-year-old drummer sought court intervention in the battle with an emergency legal filing on Friday. But Judge Mark Gildea ruled against him, writing: "Given that Kramer has not played with the band in six months and the dearth of available rehearsal time before the upcoming (Grammy) performances, Kramer has not shown a realistic alternative course of action sufficient to protect the band’s business interests. It is hereby ordered that the plaintiff's request for injunctive relief be denied."

TMZ has obtained video (see below) from over the weekend showing Joey arrive at an AEROSMITH Grammy rehearsal in Los Angeles, only to be turned away by two security guards. The guards make it clear to Joey that they were given the orders to refuse his entry by the other four members of the band.

An original member of the legendary rock group, Kramer last performed with AEROSMITH in April 2019 before suffering what was described at the time as a "shoulder injury." Other reports have indicated that he also injured an ankle.

For the past eight months, AEROSMITH has been performing with a stand-in drummer, Kramer's drum tech John Douglas.

In his 16-page complaint filed in Massachusetts state court, Kramer said the disability he suffered last year was minor, and insisted he was ready to return to the group's "lucrative" Las Vegas residency at the MGM Resorts a few months later, as well as its slate of "50th anniversary activities."

"As it stands, the attempted freeze-out of Mr. Kramer is almost complete, and will result in irreparable harm to him if not remedied by this court," the complaint said.

AEROSMITH members Steven Tyler (vocals), Joe Perry (guitar), Tom Hamilton (bass) and Brad Whitford (guitar) later responded to Kramer's suit in a statement to People, saying Joey "has not been emotionally and physically able to perform with the band, by his own admission, for the last 6 months. We have missed him and have encouraged him to rejoin us to play many times but apparently he has not felt ready to do so. Joey has now waited until the last moment to accept our invitation, when we unfortunately have no time for necessary rehearsals during Grammys week. We would be doing a disservice to him, to ourselves and to our fans to have him play without adequate time to prepare and rehearse."

A source close to the band confirmed to People that Kramer had to "test" for AEROSMITH's performances this week, but says it was a result of the drummer failing to attend multiple planned rehearsals.

"They had been inviting him to come back for the last six months since he's been away for whatever medical situation he's been dealing with," the source says. "He said, 'Yes, I'll come and rehearse' and kept not showing up. On the eve of the Grammys and MusiCares, he wanted to be back."

According to the source, the band felt Kramer "wasn't capable" of performing at a level their fans were used to after listening to his demo.

MEGADETH's DAVID ELLEFSON On DAVE MUSTAINE's Return To Live Stage: 'All The Prayers Surely Worked'

MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson has commented on the band's first show since frontman Dave Mustaine's throat cancer diagnosis. Monday night's (January 20) concert in Helsinki, Finland as the support act for FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH marked MEGADETH's first live appearance in 15 months.

Earlier today, Ellefson shared a picture of the Hartwell Arena show on Facebook and included the following message: "This is a photo from tonight's tour kick off show in Helsinki, one filled with overwhelming gratitude from the four of us for the return of Dave's health, and the privilege for us to perform for you again. The reality and weight of what hung in the balance during Dave's cancer treatments these last months really shone through during the Q&A at the pre-show VIP meet n greet and in each song we performed on that stage. Life is a gift & our health is precious. Thank you for all the prayers and support to Dave and the @megadeth camp these past months....they surely worked! We are blessed to celebrate this new decade on a sold out tour across Europe! Hope to see you there. Godspeed.... #5fdp #megadeth #badwolves (Photo by @rockaroundtblog)"

Mustaine and his bandmates played an 11-song set which included such favorites as "Hangar 18", "Peace Sells" and "Symphony Of Destruction".

MEGADETH's tour with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and BAD WOLVES will visit 13 more European countries before ending on February 20 at the Budapest Sportarena in Budapest, Hungary.

The 58-year-old MEGADETH leader revealed his cancer diagnosis last June on social media. Five months later, he gave an interview to Rolling Stone in which he said that he wasn't officially in remission but that he had finished the necessary treatment and had started rehabilitation. He also credited his faith for getting him through the ordeal.

"I've been praying for a long time, and when this whole thing went down, I prayed a lot," he said. "I don't force it on anybody; I never would do that. But I prayed about it, and I believe that that was the whole reason I got healed so fast. A lot of people's asses are probably going to grow together right now that I said this, but the truth of the matter is, everybody has their own things that they believe. And I believe that taking good care of myself and being physically fit, as well as spiritually fit, got me back to this point."

Mustaine said that his positive mindset also helped him through this most testing of journeys.

"I'm not letting the cancer get me down," he said. "I have to thank the fans and obviously my family and God but there was no way I was going to let this take me down. When [BLACK SABBATH guitarist] Tony Iommi got cancer, I thought, 'Oh, my God, he's gonna die.' And I actually cried. I wept, because they had said it was stage 4 cancer. And then, when I got it, I thought, 'Oh, my God. I'm gonna die.' Because I didn't know how bad it was. I thought of the fans and how sad everybody was gonna be. And I thought, 'I have to beat this.' No matter what, there's no way I'm gonna act like I can't do this. I can do anything if I set my mind to it."

MEGADETH has been working on its 16th album, which Ellefson said is due out early next year.

JOEY KRAMER Gets Shut Down By Judge In Request To Reinstate His Membership In AEROSMITH Immediately

According to TMZ, a judge has ruled against Joey Kramer rejoining AEROSMITH for its upcoming Grammy Awards performance.

The Massachusetts judge said the drummer didn't make a convincing enough case for playing with his bandmates when they take the stage for Sunday's award show, as well as for Friday night's MusiCares gala.

In his ruling, the judge said: "Given that Kramer has not played with the band in 6 months and the dearth of available rehearsal time before the upcoming performances, Kramer has not shown a realistic alternative course of action sufficient to protect the band's business interests."

Earlier this week, Kramer sued his bandmates, claiming he is being blocked from playing at the Grammys.

Kramer asked for an injunction to reinstate his membership in the band immediately.

"As it stands, the attempted freeze-out of Mr. Kramer is almost complete, and will result in irreparable harm to him if not remedied by this court," the complaint said.

After TMZ reported on Tuesday that Kramer had filed a lawsuit against his bandmates, the drummer issued a statement, saying that being "removed" from his "rightful place on stage to celebrate" AEROSMITH's success "is just plain wrong."

Watch NITA STRAUSS Shred At This Year's NAMM

Nita Strauss, the Los Angeles-based guitar shredder for the ALICE COOPER band, was was again in attendance at this year's NAMM convention in Anaheim, California for the launch of the latest additions to the Ibanez Nita Strauss signature JIVA family: the new JIVA X, JIVA10 and JIVA Junior models.

Video footage of Strauss shredding the axe on January 17 during the 2020 NAMM can be seen below (courtesy of YouTube user Clyde Shenefield).

Nita recently admitted that she initially had some reservations about putting out an album of instrumentals with her debut solo LP, 2018's "Controlled Chaos".

"I always thought that instrumental music was for 'better guitar players' than me," she wrote in an Instagram post. "I listened to it, but it took me a long time (and a push from [Steve Vai]) to find the faith in my ability that I could do it. That's a weird thought now that I look back on it, but let's face it — writing music that's essentially all solos is intimidating. It wasn’t until I started writing 'Controlled Chaos' that I realized there was a part of me that NEEDED to express myself that way."

She continued: "An instrumental song is one of the most pure forms of expression. It can be about whatever the listener needs it to be in that moment... just pure emotion, without being restricted by the use of words. I love that about it.

"Carving this new path as a solo artist has truly been one of my most cherished experiences of the decade and I can't wait to see where this second album takes me as I write it."

Nita's second solo LP is tentatively due in late 2020.

The guitarist's live show is mostly instrumental in nature, combining originals with covers.

Strauss has been playing with Alice Cooper since 2014 when she replaced Australian musician and former Michael Jackson player Orianthi. She joined Alice in time for a mammoth MÖTLEY CRÜE tour. She was recommended to Cooper by the legendary rocker's former bass player and WINGER frontman Kip Winger.
