EVERGREY Frontman On 'The Atlantic' Album: 'It's A Personal Story Of Where I Am In My Life'

In an interview conducted by Heavy Talk prior to EVERGREY's November 23 concert at Carioca Club in São Paulo, Brazil, frontman Tom Englund and bassist Johan Niemann discussed their latest studio album, "The Atlantic", which was released last January via AFM Records.

"It's the continuation from the 'Hymns For The Broken' and 'The Storm Within' albums," said Tom (see video below). "It's just a personal story of where I am in my life and trying to portray that in a sense is a bit more philosophical and a bit more poetic than just writing about me. So, yeah, it's just a continuation on that journey of where I am today. I think the metaphors for 'The Atlantic' is sort of reaching the new shore — finally, reaching the shore after going through waves and storms and calm storms and trying to figure out who you are now."

Englund and Niemann were then asked about why their home country of Sweden produces so many good musicians, particularly those in metal bands.

"I think it's a lot of factors involved," said Johan. "There has been a lot of support, at least years ago, government support where you could easily get a place to practice, to rehearse and stuff. You had music schools that are for free, basically, and, let's be honest, in the winter half of the year, there's not a lot to do. You either play hockey or you play music."

For "The Atlantic", EVERGREY again teamed up with Jacob Hansen, who — just like with the band's previous releases "The Storm Within" and 2014's "Hymns For The Broken" — took care of mixing and mastering.

Former GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist DJ ASHBA Strikes Plea Deal In DUI Case

According to TMZ, former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist DJ Ashba has struck a plea deal in connection with his July 2018 DUI arrest.

The 47-year-old musician, who was also involved with Nikki Sixx's SIXX: A.M. project, pleaded guilty to one count of driving under the influence, reported the State Attorney's Office in Livingston County, Illinois. In return, prosecutors dropped a separate charge of running a stop sign.

Ashba was sentenced to 24 months of court-supervised probation and 30 hours of community service. He must also submit to alcohol treatment, pay an undisclosed fine, and attend meetings where victims of DUIs tell their stories.

Ashba was pulled over in July 2018 in Fairbury, Illinois for failing to stop at a stop sign. Since the guitarist allegedly showed signs of impairment, officers gave him field sobriety tests, which he apparently failed, so he was arrested and taken to jail.

Ashba, who lives in Las Vegas, was raised in Fairbury, where he returned at the time of the arrest to attend the 29th running of the Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury American Legion Speedway. He also reportedly performed the U.S. national anthem at the event.

DJ joined GUNS N' ROSES in March 2009 following the departure of Robin Finck. He exited the group six years later, saying in a statement that he was leaving GUNS N' ROSES "to dedicate myself to my band SIXX: A.M., my adoring wife and family, and to the many new adventures that the future holds for me."

In 2018, Ashba launched a brand new project called PYROMANTIC.

MIKE LEVINE Says 'Physical Issues' Will Likely Prevent TRIUMPH From Touring Again

Legendary Canadian rockers TRIUMPH reformed their classic lineup of drummer Gil Moore, guitarist/vocalist Rik Emmett and bassist Mike Levine for an invite-only event this past November at MetalWorks studio in Mississauga (a suburb of Toronto), Ontario, Canada. The reunion — which was taped for the forthcoming documentary "Triumph: Lay It On The Line" — stoked discussion whether the band would join the ranks of other veteran rockers for a reunion tour. In a recent interview with Meltdown of the Detroit radio station WRIF, Levine discussed the possibility of a full-blown TRIUMPH comeback. "The answer is probably not," he said. "But you never say never because you don't know. But I think we're all getting on in years a little bit, there's some physical issues that may just not make that possible. Playing three songs, that's okay, we can do that. But playing a dozen songs, I'm not sure that would work on a big stage because we'd all probably fall off the stage or something stupid."

Levine was then asked whether there was a chance that TRIUMPH would record new music. The band hasn't released a studio album since 1992's "Edge Of Excess". "We actually had a discussion about that whether we wanted to go in the studio and waste some time together and see if we can come up with anything," he said. "Yeah, when everybody's calendar has got some open space, we might consider that."

Back in 2016, Moore and Levine reunited with Rik as special guests on the "RES 9" album from Emmett's band RESOLUTION9.

After 20 years apart, Emmett, Levine and Moore played at the 2008 editions of the Sweden Rock Festival and Rocklahoma. A DVD of the historic Sweden performance was made available four years later.

Emmett has said in various interviews over the years that he would welcome the chance to play TRIUMPH songs with Moore and Levine again but that those two have been reluctant to commit. "If the carrot was big enough and golden enough, I think it would make Mike and Gil, but especially Gil, do it," Emmett told the QMI Agency back in 2012.

KIRK WINDSTEIN Is Not Opposed To Making New Music With DOWN

Kirk Windstein says that he is not opposed to making new music with DOWN

Last month, Windstein confirmed that he will be part of DOWN's upcoming 2020 shows to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the group's debut album, "NOLA".

A founding member of DOWN, Windstein left the band in 2013 in order to focus on CROWBAR and his family life. He was replaced by Bobby Landgraf, DOWN's former guitar tech who was previously in GAHDZILLA MOTOR COMPANY, a 1990s outfit also featuring Jason McMaster (DANGEROUS TOYS, WATCHTOWER), and HONKY.

Asked by Christina Rowatt of Australia's The Void With Christina if there is any chance of DOWN working on new material in the near future, Windstein said (see video below): "Some special shows, or something, for the 25th anniversary of 'NOLA', we're talking about all of that. But as far as doing a record and all of that, I don't know. It's not in my hands.

"In all honesty, you see how busy everyone is — me with CROWBAR, Pepper [Keenan] with C.O.C., Phil [Anselmo] with his 20 bands," he continued. "I mean, if they were up for doing it and it didn't… My big thing, and I know Pepper feels the same way, and I'm sure Phil feels the same way as well, if it doesn't interfere with anything to do with…

"See, DOWN started out as a side project, and that's kind of where it would be again, where everyone's got their main things going on and DOWN would be done in the spare time."

This past December, Windstein told Revolver that he will definitely rejoin his DOWN bandmates to celebrate "NOLA"'s quarter-century milestone.

"I'm in, 100 percent," Windstein said. "The quote from Pepper was, 'If you ain't doing it, I ain't doing it.' Phil, Pepper and Jimmy [Bower, DOWN drummer and EYEHATEGOD guitarist] are my three of my oldest, closest friends, so this is a no-brainer for me."

When asked if this means he's back in DOWN for good, Windstein replied: "As far as I know, I'm back in the band. Bobby Landgraf did a fantastic job, and he's a very good friend of mine. But once again, DOWN is back to what it started out as, which is a 100 percent complete side project. Everyone's other bands are the priority and that's that. But it's been six and a half years since I jammed with those guys, so I'm excited. It's gonna be fun."

DOWN has several shows scheduled in 2020 so far, including appearances at the Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Dessel, Belgium, and at the Copenhell festival in Copenhagen, Denmark.

DOWN was forced to cancel a number of shows in 2016 after Anselmo was filmed giving a Nazi salute and shouting "white power" at a California concert.

Keenan later offered his take on what transpired, telling Metal Wani that DOWN was "far from done" after the controversial incident. "You know, DOWN didn't do anything wrong," he said. "I mean, we were just guilty by association on that one. That was Phil's mistake. I've spoken to Phil and told him to get his shit together, and he is. He knows he made a mistake and was being stupid."

He continued: "I've known the guy [most of my life]. He's not what that whole thing framed him to be at all. But, yeah, there's definitely a future for DOWN. I wouldn't throw all the shit we've done, beautiful music we've done on one stupid moment that was caught on camera, and he apologized for. [So we are] far from done."

DOWN's last live appearance took place in August 2016 at the Psycho Las Vegas festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MIKE PORTNOY On Possibility Of Making Music With JOHN PETRUCCI Again: 'We Would Both Love It'

Mike Portnoy says that he would "love" to make music with John Petrucci again.

The drummer commented on the possibility of working with his former bandmate in DREAM THEATER just a couple of weeks after Portnoy took to his social media to upload two photos of him and the DREAM THEATER guitarist, along with their respective families, at what appeared to be the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Asked in a new interview with Myglobalmind if there are any plans to ever work with Petrucci again, Portnoy said: "We would both love it. We are a great team of 25 years as we were co-captains of DREAM THEATER and LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT. I would also go out with him on the 'G3' tours.

"I look back at the relationship we had, and it was very special from a drummer-guitarist relationship," he continued. "You can see that with Lars [Ulrich] and James [Hetfield] of METALLICA, Dimebag [Darrell Abbott] and Vinnie [Paul Abbott] of PANTERA, and Eddie and Alex Van Halen. I think John and I had that type of partnership.

"We are both at our best and strongest when we work together, and I miss that relationship, Portnoy added. "He and I have a great personal relationship now and get together with our families. It would be a shame not to make music in some capacity in the future. I hope we can.

Asked what he thinks his renewed musical collaboration with Petrucci would sound like, Portnoy said: "If you listen to the first 10 DREAM THEATER albums, that's what it would sound like. I think that DREAM THEATER and LIQUID TENSION was a nice combination of our styles as well as the other members of those bands. I think John and I both have very distinctive styles. We have written hundreds of songs, so I think it would be pretty obvious what it would sound like."

Portnoy, who co-founded DREAM THEATER more than 30 years ago, abruptly quit the band in September 2010 while on tour with AVENGED SEVENFOLD. He has since been replaced by Mike Mangini (ANNIHILATOR, EXTREME, JAMES LABRIE, STEVE VAI).

After Portnoy posted a photo two years ago of him hanging out with Petrucci, many DREAM THEATER fans expressed hope that it represented a thawing of tensions between the two musicians who had been friends for more than three decades. But John played down the photo's significance, telling Music Radar: "Mike and I have maintained a relationship and have been friends all these years. Our families are all good friends, and we've gotten together several times. That just was the first time we took a photo and posted a photo. [There's] nothing to read into, other than it's good to maintain good relationships. That's really all it is."

Portnoy told "The Metal Podcast" that he and John had "actually reconnected" in recent years "and gotten together many times and had dinner together with our families." He added: "The reality is he and I have been friends since the first week in college back in September of 1985, so it's a relationship that goes back [34] years. And our families are all friends, our wives and our kids are all friends, we all grew up together, and that's never gonna go away.

"After I left DREAM THEATER, there were some years' worth of drama and bullshit," he admitted. "But the reality is you put all that aside and friends are friends and family is family and John and I will always be friends and family."

Mike told Loud that he left DREAM THEATER because he wanted to expand his musical horizons. "[I didn't] want to go to my grave and just be the drummer from DREAM THEATER," he said. "I knew there was way more to what I had to offer."

GLENN HUGHES Says New THE DEAD DAISIES Album Is 'A Beautiful Piece Of Music'

THE DEAD DAISIES — the hard rock "collective" founded by Australian musician and businessman David Lowy — is mixing its fifth album for an April 24 release. Recorded at La Fabrique Studios in the south of France, the follow-up to 2018's "Burn It Down", will be the band's first to feature Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION), who joined the group last year as its new bassist and vocalist, replacing John Corabi (MÖTLEY CRÜE) and Marco Mendoza (THIN LIZZY).

In an interview with "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show" at this past weekend's NAMM convention in Anaheim, California, Hughes spoke about how he came to be involved with THE DEAD DAISIES. He said (see video below): "They wanted someone in, and they were asking me about a year ago if I would be interested in doing this. And I've been doing the 'Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple' [shows] for a couple of years, and I thought it would be appropriate for me to take a break from that and do something other than [that]. And I got together with the guys and we had a play. I've known Doug [Aldrich, THE DEAD DAISIES guitarist] a long time, as you know. And it just fell together beautifully. It's a beautiful piece of music. I can't wait for people to hear it."

Asked what the new DEAD DAISIES material sounds like, Glenn said: "It's classic rock and it's a groovy album. It's got a lot of melodies to it. It's what you can imagine with me joining them — what could have happened and what has happened. It's a very interesting piece of music."

According to Glenn, "the ability to be in a wonderful place in the south of France" to make the new DEAD DAISIES album made for "a wonderful atmosphere. Spooky and haunted, but I've been in a lot of those places," he explained. "It was a great moment to make this record with those guys in that genre of a castle — château, if you will. I don't know if you've seen any footage of it. It's grand and glorious. …

"When you get a band together, especially with me coming in as the 'new guy,' and then you actually live together — you have breakfast, lunch and dinner — and you're in the same place," he continued. "And you wake up, and it's work, work, work. And I thought it was a great process to be, for six weeks, doing that, to make it really jell. And it worked wonderful."

Hughes went on to praise Lowy, saying that collaborating with THE DEAD DAISIES leader — who is also the son of billionaire Frank Lowy, the founder of one of the biggest retail groups in the world, Westfield — was a "wonderful" experience. "He's a studious guitar player," Glenn said. "He works his socks off. With Doug playing lead, David plays rhythm, it's a good combination with me playing the way I play.

"Listen, I love Marco Mendoza — a dear friend of mine — and I love John Corabi, but they left the band," Glenn said. "And here I am. But people need to know that they're my friends and I love them dearly. And they are still part of THE DEAD DAISIES family, and that's the way it is. The love factor is very high with all of us."

Asked about THE DEAD DAISIES' touring plans, Glenn said: "We start end of April. There'll be something [which] will be announced very soon. And we may do a couple of soft openings somewhere in America. But the first thing we do on the touring schedule is festivals in Europe."

Last August, THE DEAD DAISIES released "Righteous Days", the band's first song to feature Hughes.

According to Wikipedia, since the band's formation in 2012, THE DEAD DAISIES has featured two dozen different members (including "session" players and "temporary substitutes"), including drummer Brian Tichy (FOREIGNER, WHITESNAKE), GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Richard Fortus and GN'R keyboardist Dizzy Reed. The group has toured with the likes of AEROSMITH, KISS and BLACK STAR RIDERS.

Known as the "voice of rock," the 67-year-old Hughes is best known for fronting the Mk. III and Mk. IV lineups of DEEP PURPLE in the mid-1970s and for singing on BLACK SABBATH's 1986 album "Seventh Star". He was replaced by Ray Gillen after only six live performances with the band.

In 2009, Hughes formed BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION with blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa, keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER, SONS OF APOLLO) and drummer Jason Bonham (BONHAM, FOREIGNER). Hughes recently told Midlands Metalheads Radio that the group will reunite to record its fifth album in January of 2021.

POISON's BRET MICHAELS Says He Worked On Tour With MÖTLEY CRÜE And DEF LEPPARD 'For Years' Before It Came Together

POISON singer Bret Michaels says that he is excited about the band's upcoming "The Stadium Tour" with MÖTLEY CRÜE, DEF LEPPARD and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS.

"I've been working on that for years, hoping we could put it together with everybody and it just worked," he told People.com. "It will be an absolute, all-out high-energy party. I think people are excited for a live, good time summer party with great music."

"The Stadium Tour" will kick off on June 21 in San Antonio, Texas and will include newly announced gigs in Kansas City, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Nashville, Cincinnati and Cleveland. The trek marks CRÜE's first live dates since wrapping its 2014/2015 farewell tour. The band toured with POISON back in 2011 and DEF LEPPARD teamed up with POISON for a string of road dates in 2017 — but the upcoming jaunt marks the first time all four acts have hit the road together for an extended tour.

Produced by Live Nation, "The Stadium Tour" was announced on December 4 at SiriusXM's Hollywood Studios live on the Volume Channel 106. The trek reportedly sold more than 700,000 tickets and grossed over $90 million at the box office in the first weekend of sales. The tour saw the fastest sellout in Miller Park history in Milwaukee, according to a press release. Additional shows sold out instantly in Atlanta, Seattle, Charlotte, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago and Denver.

In 2018, POISON completed the "Nothin' But A Good Time" tour with CHEAP TRICK and POP EVIL.

POISON's 2012 tour, a co-headlining outing with DEF LEPPARD, grossed $14.1 million, according to Pollstar.

POISON's last album of new material was 2002's "Hollyweird". An album of covers, "Poison'd", followed in 2007.

DEATH: Original 'Symbolic' Artwork Sells For More Than $10,000

The original artwork for DEATH's classic 1995 album "Symbolic" signed by artist Rene Miville was recently sold on eBay for $10,100.

At some point, DEATH mastermind Chuck Schuldiner had the original art tacked on his wall, hence the damage at the top, but the artwork was said to be in otherwise excellent shape.

The "Symbolic" cover completed Miville's DEATH trifecta that began with "Human" (1991) and "Individual Thought Patterns" (1993). Interestingly, Miville also did the back cover of OBITUARY's "The End Complete" album in 1992.

"Symbolic" stands out as unique in DEATH's catalog — the moment Chuck married his progressive direction with more song-based material, not to mention it is also one of Schuldiner's sonically richest-sounding recordings, courtesy of producer Jim Morris.

The April 2008 remastered reissue of "Symbolic" via Roadrunner Records included the original album tracks plus several previously unreleased, ultra-rare, mostly instrumental demo recordings that were completed in early 1994 with the lineup of Schuldiner, Gene Hoglan (drums) and Steve DiGiorgio (bass). The package also came with brand new liner notes written by longtime metal journalist Don Kaye.

Chuck died on December 13, 2001 after a battle with pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor.

In recent years, DEATH's storied catalog has undergone a meticulous reissue campaign via Relapse Records.

ANTHRAX's Next Album Will Be 'Weird And Pissed Off,' Says CHARLIE BENANTE

ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante says that the band's next album will be "weird and pissed off."

The follow-up to 2016's "For All Kings" will be ANTHRAX's third full-length release since the 2010 return of singer Joey Belladonna, who came back into the fold for the "Big Four" shows with METALLICA, SLAYER and MEGADETH, in the process helping inspire a new wave of creativity.

Earlier today, Benante tweted out a Revolver magazine article about ANTHRAX's next LP included the following message: "We are making a record of songs that will span the history of our musical landscape . It's weird and pissed off."

At last year's Download festival in the United Kingdom, Benante spoke about the progress of the songwriting sessions for ANTHRAX's next disc. "I was talking to the [other] guys [in ANTHRAX] about it," Charlie said. "I said, 'I don't wanna make another record.' Not that we'd just make another record, but this time I wanna make a statement musically. 'Cause I hear bands coming out with music, and I don't think they're putting much emphasis on longevity anymore. I think [they have the attitude], 'Let's just get this out so we can go on tour.' … I wanna make records so that our fans, six months to a year later, go, 'Wow! I just discovered this on that record.'"

According to Benante, fans can expect to hear some surprises on ANTHRAX's next disc. "There's some extreme stuff on this record that we touched on," he said. "There's different things that we're gonna try and do that's gonna make it next level."

Earlier last year, Benante told Australia's "Everblack" podcast that ANTHRAX's new music is shaping up to be "a little more in the aggressive style."

"For All Kings" was called by some critics ANTHRAX's strongest album to date. Its arrival followed a five-year period during which the band experienced a rebirth of sorts, beginning with ANTHRAX's inclusion on the "Big Four" tour, and continuing with the 2011 release of comeback LP "Worship Music".

OZZY reveals Parkinson's diagnosis

Heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne revealed Tuesday that he has Parkinson's disease.

In an interview with Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America," Osbourne and his wife and manager, Sharon, said the rocker was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder last February.

"It's been terribly challenging for us all. I did my last show New Year's Eve at The Forum," Osbourne, 71, said referring to his Dec. 31, 2018 show in Los Angeles. "Then I had a bad fall. I had to have surgery on my neck, which screwed all my nerves."

The Black Sabbath frontman was also hospitalized in February following complications from the flu, his wife said at the time.

Sharon Osbourne said her husband has stage 2 Parkinson's. "There's so many different types of Parkinson's — it's not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body," Sharon said. "And it's, it's like you have a good day, a good day, and then a really bad day."

In November, Osbourne announced that his "NO MORE TOURS 2" tour, which was originally scheduled to begin this month, would be pushed back to October.

"I can't wait to get off my ass and get going again, but you're just going to have to be a bit more patient," Osbourne said in a statement at the time. "I want to be 100 percent ready to come out and knock your f------g socks off."

Osbourne, from England, gained fame in the 1970s as the lead singer of Black Sabbath. During his time with the heavy metal band, he became known as "The Prince of Darkness."

Drug and alcohol abuse got him fired from the band in 1979, but he became successful on his own, releasing nearly a dozen albums, and shocking fans with stunts like biting the heads off living creatures, like a bat and a dove.

Osbourne has reunited with Black Sabbath on several occasions, frequently at Ozzfest, a heavy metal and hard rock festival he founded with Sharon.

Osbourne and Sharon married in 1982. The couple has three children, two of whom, Kelly and Jack, appeared with their parents on the MTV reality show, "The Osbournes," which ran from 2002 to 2005. Osbourne also has three children from a previous marriage.

LORDI Frontman Got 'Tired And Bored' Of Albums Always Sounding The Same

In an interview with Arto Mäenpää of Kaaos TV, frontman Mr. Lordi of Finnish hard rock/heavy metal monsters LORDI explained the creation of their forthcoming "Killection" studio album. According to a press release, LORDI has come up with a concept that has never been done before in the music industry: A compilation album that simply says "what if" LORDI had been in existence since the early 1970s. "Killection" contains all of "LORDI's imaginary hit singles from different periods done with painstaking attention to detail using authentic studios and vintage technology."

"The original idea is, I thought about it already it for 'Sexorcism', which was actually the previous album, but I decided to save it for the next one, which is the tenth album, this one now," he said (see video below). "So, the idea for that is because I have grown so fucking tired and bored with the fact that happens to every single fucking band and artist and album ever made, the thing is that they always sound the same. All the songs on every album, they always sound the same because of the way you record the albums. So, first, you record the drums, then you record the bass, then you record the guitars, then keyboards if you have any, vocals, backing vocals, boom, next song. The shitty thing is that it's like working on a factory line and the sound of every song on the album is pretty much more or less the same, and that is the reason that with us because I write a lot of shit all the time. I write all the time and there's like on an average LORDI album where there's 10 or 11 songs, it means there's at least 30 songs that I left out. The problem is, it's a positive problem because you have a lot to choose from, but the thing is that there are a lot of songs that everybody thinks are great but they don't fit the sound of the album that we are about to make. There are awesome songs that we have had to leave out because of the fact that 'Yeah, but with the sound. Uh, ah, it doesn't fucking fit.'

"So, I have grown so fucking tired with that because that actually goes — the priorities are fucked up there if you think about it. Because then you are thinking that not that the song is the first priority, you're thinking about the sound and the production, so the song is a slave to the production which is actually…when you think about it, it is crazy. It is not the right way. It should be the other way around, the songs should be priority number one and then the sound should be the slave to the songs, not the other way around. So that's the reason. And, of course, when we started figuring out 'Is it actually possible to do it? How logistically this might work and how should we actually should do it?' then the snowball started rolling, then I got the idea that it's maybe a compilation, it's a fictional compilation album. Actually, take the train a little bit further with the idea, so to actually write songs that are in different styles on purpose and from different years and different eras and different times."

"Killection" will be released on January 31 via AFM Records.

LORDI won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 with the song "Hard Rock Hallelujah" and remains the first and only winner from Finland in the history of the competition. Since then, the band has gone through several lineup changes. The original members who are still active with the band are Mr. Lordi and guitarist Amen.

SLIPKNOT Fans Blast 'Ridiculous' Ban On Spiked Collars And Wallet Chains At Glasgow Concert

According to the BBC, the organizers of SLIPKNOT concert's in Glasgow have been blasted for a "ridiculous" ban on certain items of clothing and accessories. Among the articles that were not permitted inside the SSE Hydro arena for the band's show on Saturday (January 18) in the Scottish city were spiked items of clothing, large belt buckles, large chain wallets, laser pointers, fireworks, candles and whistles.

Donald MacLeod, a Glasgow promoter who owns the Garage and Cathouse rock clubs, told the BBC that the ban is "a joke."

"We've never had issues like this on dress," he said. "It's incredible. I must admit I burst out laughing and thought this was a joke.

"What I've found running the Cathouse — which is an iconic institution — is we've had all manners of dress codes, be it emo, goth, heavy metallers and hip hop. They all have a brand and an identity — nose rings or tattoos - and it's probably the safest and friendliest club that I've had.

"Yes, there have been incidents, but people police themselves and they look after each other. We have put on many shows in the SEC of a similar calibre such as NINE INCH NAILS and nobody was flung out and there were no problems.

"There were more problems at 'Still Game' [long-running Scottish sitcom] and there were no high heeled buckled boots there. You get more fighting at a darts match."

He added: "I can't see how telling people not to wear big boots is going to prevent fires; it's ridiculous."

A spokesperson for the SSE Hydro said: "We want everyone attending an event here to have an enjoyable experience. However, there are restrictions on what is allowed into the SSE Hydro and these can vary — this is related to the safety of everyone attending events here and to the security of the venue."

This past November, SLIPKNOT was forced to cancel its appearance at the first day of the Knotfest Meets Forcefest in Mexico City due to a security issue. According to reports, the stage barricade broke during BEHEMOTH's set and it was impossible to fix it in time for the headlining band to perform.

STONE SOUR Releases Demo Version Of 'The Song That Started It All', 'Get Inside'

STONE SOUR has released a demo version of the song "Get Inside". The original track opened the band's self-titled debut album, which came out in 2002.

In a statement accompanying the YouTube release of the "Get Inside" demo, STONE SOUR guitarist Josh Rand wrote: "January 1, 2000. The first day of the new millennium. It was a homecoming show for SLIPKNOT, and as Corey [Taylor, STONE SOUR and SLIPKNOT singer] & myself sat at his grandma Thelma's house waiting to leave for the show that night, we played each other music that we had separately been working on. These were songs that he had written outside of SLIPKNOT, and songs that I had recorded at home on a 4 track. After we listened to all of the tracks, we decided that we needed to record these songs at SR Studios in Des Moines during his time off from touring. These sessions took place over the next year and became the Project X/SuperEgo demo.

"Most of the songs from those sessions ended up on the first STONE SOUR album. The goal was not to have any musical boundaries; to play whatever we wanted regardless of what people might think.

"Here is the first version of Get Inside, the song that started it all."

Rand recently said that he has "no idea" when STONE SOUR will release a new studio album. Asked in an interview with Guitar World if the band has started working yet on a follow-up to 2017's "Hydrograd", Rand replied: "To be honest, the band is on hiatus right now with no timetable on a return. It's a mixture of needing a break, plus Corey wants to do a solo album, so I don't know when there will be new STONE SOUR music."

Rand hinted that the band will release something next summer which he can't talk about yet, but also told The Pulse Of Radio he's working on another project to keep fans happy during the hiatus. "I archive like everything that we've done, so starting at the top of [2020], every week I'm going to release a demo or an alternate version of a song, starting from the very beginning. And then throughout the entire year will get us up to 'Hydrograd'. So I'm pretty excited about that."

STONE SOUR has been off the road and out of sight since completing the touring cycle for its 2017 LP "Hydrograd". Taylor has been working with SLIPKNOT since then, recording and currently touring behind that group's sixth effort, "We Are Not Your Kind". Rand is currently promoting STONE SOUR's new live album, "Hello, You Bastards: Live In Reno", which came out on December 13.

Taylor also recently told WhatCulture that he has already written 26 songs for his long-in-the-works solo album, which he has hinted at recording over the years.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN's JOHN DOLMAYAN And AVENGED SEVENFOLD's M. SHADOWS Team Up For THESE GREY MEN Video

On Saturday (January 18), SYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan filmed a new music video for his THESE GREY MEN project. The track, which features a guest appearance by AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows, will appear on THESE GREY MEN's upcoming covers album, which is due later in the year.

Dolmayan took to his Twitter to share a few photos from the video shoot and wrote in an accompanying caption: "Some great shots from yesterday @avengedsevenfold @thesegreymen"

John spoke about THESE GREY MEN's upcoming LP during a recent episode of "Drinks With Johnny", the Internet TV show hosted by AVENGED SEVENFOLD bassist Johnny Christ. He said: "It's a lot of fun. I worked with really cool people… Again, I'm not trying to create something to compete with SYSTEM. I'm just doing it because I enjoy playing music. I'm not a songwriter, but I can arrange the fuck out of songs. So, I arranged these songs in a way that I thought was interesting and I listened to songs that I thought maybe there was a lack. Or what would I do if I played this song? What would I do if I was presented this song?"

Dolmayan first announced the formation of THESE GREY MEN in 2014, promising at the time that the project would produce a star-studded covers album and tour.

THESE GREY MEN's debut album was originally supposed to include new renditions of songs by artists such as RADIOHEAD, OUTKAST, DAVID BOWIE and many more, recorded by a band of all-star players led by Dolmayan and his collaborator James Hazley, formerly of the band COCKEYED GHOST. Among the other guests that are expected to appear on the disc are Dolmayan's SYSTEM OF A DOWN bandmate Serj Tankian (on David Bowie's "Starman" and TALKING HEADS' "Road To Nowhere") and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello.

NICKELBACK Appears To Be Teasing Tour Celebrating 15th Anniversary Of 'All The Right Reasons' Album

NICKELBACK's official web site has launched a countdown clock that is scheduled to hit zero on Tuesday, January 21 at 9:00 a.m. PST. The band has also released a one-minute teaser video and captioned it with lyrics from the song "Photograph" from the 2005 album "All The Right Reasons", "We said someday we'd find out how it feels, to sing to more than just the steering wheel," along with a link to Nickelback.com and the hashtags #ATRR15 #NB2020, suggesting that a celebration of the 15th anniversary of NICKELBACK's fifth album is in the works for this year.

Meanwhile, a Syracuse, New York venue is teasing a new concert announcement on Facebook with a photo of a black car on a sun-soaked highway. "I'm driving black on black… Nickelback.com #ATRR15 #NB2020," the Live Nation venue St. Joseph's Health Amphitheater at Lakeview's official account wrote on Friday, quoting the opening lyrics to the NICKELBACK song "Animals", which is also taken from "All The Right Reasons".

"All The Right Reasons" was the first NICKELBACK album to feature former 3 DOORS DOWN drummer Daniel Adair, who replaced Ryan Vikedal in January 2005. The LP topped the Canadian albums chart and the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart and has sold 12 million copies worldwide. It is NICKELBACK's best-selling album to date, according to certifications from the CRIA, the RIAA, and the BPI.

"All The Right Reasons" was certified diamond by the RIAA in March 2017, celebrating 10 million sales and streams in the U.S. The LP debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and spent more than 200 weeks on the tally. The set featured five top 40-charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including three top 10s: "Photograph" (No. 2), "Far Away" (No. 8) and "Rockstar" (No. 6).

This past September, NICKELBACK bassist Mike Kroeger said that there were no concrete plans to the band to return to the studio anytime soon to make the follow-up to 2017's "Feed The Machine" album.

Upon its June 2017 release, "Feed The Machine" landed at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. According to Billboard, the set moved 47,000 units in its first week (43,000 from album sales). It was the first NICKELBACK studio set not to enter at No. 1 upon its release on either chart dating to the inception of Top Rock Albums in 2006 and Hard Rock (and Alternative) Albums in 2007.

The last seven NICKELBACK albums have all bowed within the top 10 of the Billboard 200, a run that began with the No. 2 premiere of "Silver Side Up" in 2001.

BILLY SHEEHAN Signs With METAL BLADE For Release Of New TALAS Studio Album

Billy Sheehan has signed a deal with Metal Blade Records for the release of a new studio album from TALAS, the 1970s upstate New York band which initially earned its name while performing gigs in the Buffalo and Rochester scenes. Although TALAS started out by playing covers, it eventually introduced originals to its setlist.

The news of TALAS's new record deal was broken by Sheehan's longtime manager Michael Faley, a former roadie with TALAS who also works for Metal Blade. On Friday (January 17), Faley posted a photo of Sheehan signing the contract with Metal Blade and included the following caption: "Billy Sheehan signing contract for a new TALAS studio album with Metal Blade Records. The 4 piece TALAS never recorded a studio album and there is soooo much material to pick from."

Kings of the Buffalo bar circuit, TALAS slogged it out through the 1970s and 1980s, hoping for the breakthrough that never quite came. When David Lee Roth left VAN HALEN, Sheehan immediately joined Roth's band, putting an effective end to TALAS.

Sheehan's penchant for innovation has revolutionized the way the bass guitar is played. He formed MR. BIG in 1989, achieving a Billboard No. 1 single in the USA and 14 other countries with "To Be With You" from the band's second Atlantic Records album release, "Lean Into It". While developing his trademark style of playing, he performed over 4,000 live gigs on every continent except Africa and Antarctica.

ALICE IN CHAINS Frontman WILLIAM DUVALL Releases 'Smoke And Mirrors' Video

Recording artist William DuVall, frontman for the iconic band ALICE IN CHAINS, has released a live video for "Smoke And Mirrors", recorded at Holly Lane Studios.

"Smoke And Mirrors" is a dark and sultry affair, centred around love and the firm grasp that it’s capable of taking. The acoustic tones have the power to both pulverize and comfort, with William's voice gracefully soaring overhead as he pours his incredible voice all over the rich landscape beneath him.

William will embark on the second leg of his tour on February 15, taking him through the United States, Europe, and Russia in support of his critically acclaimed solo effort, "One Alone". This live video captures the emotional power in the song perfectly and serves as a glimpse of what to expect from his upcoming live dates.

"One Alone" is DuVall's debut solo release and marks a new chapter in his storied career. The critically acclaimed 11-track album shows DuVall's powerful voice with nothing but an acoustic guitar to back it. With over 166,000 views on YouTube, "'Til The Light Guides Me Home", the lead single off "One Alone", brought attention to the record upon release.

In contrast to the multi-layered sonic assault, comprising most of his discography, "One Alone" is as sparse and intimate as it gets — part late-night confessional, part living room concert. As William describes it: "I felt the need to peel everything back. This album is strictly one voice, one guitar. It reveals the very core of who I am as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter."

From the romantic pleas of "Strung Out On A Dream", "White Hot" and "Still Got A Hold On My Heart" to the betrayal of a close friend addressed in "The Veil Of All My Fears", these solo acoustic performances cut right to the raw nerve at the heart of each song.

As a meditation on heartbreak, resilience, and hard-won wisdom, "One Alone" offers rewards that can’t be found anywhere else by an artist who continues to forge a singular path across a boundless musical landscape. William's upcoming tour serves as a rare opportunity to witness a stadium-conquering artist at his most vulnerable, tugging directly at the heartstrings of those lucky enough to attend.

Prior to joining ALICE IN CHAINS in 2006, DuVall was a member of punk rock bands AWARENESS VOID OF CHAOS, NEON CHRIST, BL'AST! and FINAL OFFERING. DuVall's long musical history also includes COMES WITH THE FALL and ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell's solo work.

Cantrell befriended the members of COMES WITH THE FALL in the early 2000s, playing shows with the band on the West Coast, then enlisting the musicians to tour with him as both opening act and backing group in support of his album "Degradation Trip".

DuVall appears on the last three ALICE IN CHAINS albums: 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue", 2013's "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" and 2018's "Rainier Fog".

SYSTEM OF A DOWN Bassist SHAVO ODADJIAN Launches NORTH KINGSLEY Side Project

SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavarsh "Shavo" Odadjian has launched a new side project called NORTH KINGSLEY. Joining him in the band are Ray Hawthorne and Saro Paparian.

Shavo announced NORTH KINGSLEY's formation in an Instagram post on Saturday (January 18). He wrote: "I am proud to announce my new project @northkingsley . Music coming soon!!! #nk2020 #systemofadown #22red @22redla #northkingsley ? @armenkeleshian"

Regarding how he came up with the NORTH KINGSLEY band name, Shavo told Marijuana Retail Report: "When I moved from Armenia to L.A., I moved to North Kingsley Drive. That was my street, that's where I grew up and I saw everything there. I started skateboarding there. I witnessed homelessness, the poor, you know, I noticed gangs. I learned about friendship. I saw sex there — there were prostitutes. I grew up there, so it means a lot to me. So when I say that name, that's my growth, how I became who I am, you know?"

NORTH KINGSLEY's music will be released through Shavo's 22Red label. 22Red is also the name of his southern California-based cannabis brand and lifestyle brand, which he launched in late 2018.

Odadjian spoke of the brand's symbolism in a 2019 Marijuana Retail Report interview. He said: "I was born April 22nd, I was married May 22nd, I was 22 when SYSTEM OF A DOWN got picked up… I was kind of born with 22." The "red" part of 22Red comes from Odadjian's synesthesia, a disorder which joins objects such as letters, shapes, numbers or people's names with a sensory perception such as smell, color or flavor. One day when he was brainstorming about what the brand's name could be, someone asked him, "So what color is two?", and the brand was born.

<Shavo has repeatedly expressed his frustration over the lack of a new studio album from SYSTEM OF A DOWN. The band has yet to release a follow-up to "Mezmerize" and "Hypnotize", which came out in 2005.

Watch FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH And STEEL PANTHER Members Perform VAN HALEN Classic In Helsinki

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH members Jason Hook (guitar), Chris Kael (bass) and Charlie Engen (drums) joined STEEL PANTHER on stage last night (Sunday, January 19) at the Circus in Helsinki, Finland to perform a cover of the VAN HALEN classic "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love". Fan-filmed video footage of their appearance can be seen below.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH is in Helsinki for tonight's concert at Hartwall Arena with support from MEGADETH. FIVE FINGER's eighth album, "F8", will be released on February 28 via Better Noise Music.

STEEL PANTHER is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Heavy Metal Rules", which was released last September. The disc, which is described in a press release as a "heavy metal version of a self-help manual and ultimate party album combined," was once again produced by Jay Ruston, who collaborated with the band on all of its previous recordings, including 2017's "Lower The Bar".

STEEL PANTHER specializes in imitating and exaggerating the less flattering aspects of 1980s hair metal, with unrepentantly crude, non-PC sexual content as a favorite lyrical theme.

The group's music has been described as "VAN HALEN meets MÖTLEY CRÜE meets RATT meets 'Wayne's World', complete with operatic shrieks, misogyny, shredding guitar solos and libidinal overdrive."

Twelve years ago, STEEL PANTHER changed its name from METAL SKOOL to its current moniker and shifted the focus of its act from '80s metal covers to originals.

QUEEN Becomes First Band To Be Celebrated With Official U.K. Commemorative Coin

The Royal Mint has announced the iconic band QUEEN will be celebrated with the launch of a commemorative coin collection, making it the first time that a British band has been celebrated on U.K. coinage. Available from today, the design is the first in The Royal Mint's new "Music Legends" collection.

Known for pushing the boundaries with their own unique style and continually reinventing their approach to music, QUEEN's layered sound and flamboyant anthems continue to influence a new generation of musicians' decades after they were formed.

Perhaps the most striking example of the band's determination to be bold was their decision to release a six-minute quasi-operatic single, "Bohemian Rhapsody", in 1975. Before the release of the song, the label was determined to cut the length of the single significantly. However, the foursome refused and the risk paid off, with the single spending nine consecutive weeks at the top of the charts. In 2002, 27 years later, the single was voted as Britain's favorite song of all time. The opening notes of "Bohemian Rhapsody" are so well recognized, that The Royal Mint's coin designer, Chris Facey, decided it was a fitting tribute to showcase these by featuring the keys on the piano pressed down.

The coin commemorates all four members of QUEEN, in recognition of their contributions to the band's success. This is done through the portrayal of each member's instrument, with the Bechstein grand piano — which Freddie Mercury played for "Bohemian Rhapsody" — featuring at the top of the coin. Meanwhile, the group's logo is placed at the center of the design and is underscored by the singer's signature mic stick.

Brian May's "Red Special" guitar — which he still plays using an old sixpence to give his unique sound — also features alongside John Deacon's Fender Precision Bass. Finally, Roger Taylor's Ludwig bass drum is decorated with the QUEEN crest, as it appeared in the band's early days.

May said: "This is a big 'Who could have imagined it?' moment for us. When we began as QUEEN, even the first rung of the ladder to recognition seemed remote and unreachable. To have our band recognized and our music celebrated in this way is very touching — a real honor."

Taylor said: "Marvellous, all this fuss over our band. I feel entirely spent."

Nicola Howell, chief commercial officer at The Royal Mint, commented: "QUEEN were one of the most influential bands of their generation, and their timeless classics are still enjoyed by millions of fans around the world. That's why we're so pleased to be honoring their great contribution to British music with their very own coin, which will be the first time a British band has been celebrated on U.K. coinage. British music is one of our greatest contributions to culture around the world, and its musicians like QUEEN who are at the forefront of this. We're looking forward to announcing other coins in our new 'Music Legends' collection later this year, marking the work of other exceptional British musicians."

Chris Facey, designer of the QUEEN coin, added: "My first memory of QUEEN was hearing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in the film 'Wayne's World', and I've been a big fan ever since. It's therefore such an honour to be asked to commemorate such an extraordinary band on a U.K. coin, and even more exciting as it's the first coin I've designed. All four members of QUEEN were vital for their bravery in the music they created and the boundaries they pushed, and I hope that fans will enjoy seeing each of their contributions paid tribute to on this coin."

The collaboration was brought together and facilitated by Bravado, Universal Music Group's leading merchandise and brand management company. The first in an exciting new series celebrating innovation and success of British music, the commemorative coins will be available in Gold proof, Silver proof, and Brilliant Uncirculated and will be available to purchase from www.royalmint.com.

Prices range from £13 for the Brilliant Uncirculated coin up to £2,100 for the Gold proof coin. The Brilliant Uncirculated coin will also be available in limited numbers in three exclusive packs which includes a poster and will only be available to purchase from The Royal Mint.

Report: AC/DC To Release New Album This Year, Tour Australia In The Fall

AC/DC is rumored to be close to announcing a world stadium tour. The trek will apparently include singer Brian Johnson, who was forced to leave the band mid-tour nearly four years ago due to a dangerous level of hearing loss. He was eventually replaced on the road by GUNS N' ROSES vocalist Axl Rose.

On Monday (January 20), Australian radio personality Eddie McGuire discussed the possibility of the legendary hard rockers' comeback on his Triple M Melbourne breakfast show.

Eddie said (hear audio below): "My mail is there will be a new album released by AC/DC February/March this year, but also that AC/DC will be touring Australia October/November 2020. And after a lot of work and a lot of technical research, they have been able to get a hearing aid for Brian Johnson, who will be out front. And even Phil Rudd [drums] might be back in the group either playing percussion or drums with Angus [Young, guitar] so that they've got three of — well, not the originals, but three of the old-timers, if you like, back there. They've had a few changes over the journey, but Angus out front, Brian Johnson lead singing, and maybe Phil Rudd, after his issues that he's had in recent times."

A year and a half year ago, Johnson and Rudd, along with Angus Young and fellow guitarist Stevie Young, were photographed outside Vancouver's Warehouse Studios. Based on the pictures, the assumption was that AC/DC was in the midst of making — or at least planning — another album, with Rudd and Johnson both back in the lineup.

Ever since AC/DC completed the tour cycle for its 2014 album "Rock Or Bust" three and a half years ago — a turbulent trek that weathered the forced retirement and eventual death of co-founder Malcolm Young, plus the departures of Johnson, Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams — fans have wondered whether sole remaining founding member Angus Young would keep the band going or decide it was time for AC/DC to pack it in.

Last February, a photo surfaced on social media suggesting that Williams has also returned to AC/DC and will appear on the rumored comeback album.

A September 2018 report from JAM! magazine cited a "reliable source inside the AC/DC camp" as indicating that the band was recording a new LP which would utilize previously unreleased guitar tracks from Malcolm Young on all the songs.

Rudd was ousted from AC/DC when he was sentenced to eight months of home detention by a New Zealand court in 2015 after pleading guilty to charges of threatening to kill and drug possession.

Rudd, who has appeared on all but three of AC/DC's 18 studio albums, recently toured in support of his 2014 solo debut, "Head Job". It was the release of that album that led indirectly to Rudd's arrest, with the drummer allegedly so angry at a personal assistant over the way the record was promoted that he threatened to have the man and his daughter killed.

SCORPIONS Hope To Release New Studio Album Before End Of 2020

SCORPIONS singer Klaus Meine spoke to the "Talking Pictures" TV show about the band's plans for a new studio album. The upcoming disc will mark the German hard rock legends' first release since 2017's "Born To Touch Your Feelings - Best Of Rock Ballads", which was an anthology of SCORPIONS' new and classic material.

Klaus said (see video below): "We go to Australia in February, and Southeast Asia, and when we come back, we go into the studio here in Germany, [in our] hometown of Hannover, for pre-production. And then in May, it looks like we come to Los Angeles and start working in the studio, start recording, until the residency in Vegas. And hopefully we're done by then. If not, we keep going and finish the album, which hopefully will come out at the end of the year."

Last fall, SCORPIONS guitarist Matthias Jabs revealed to New Zealand's "The Metal Bar" that the band will be working with METALLICA and SLIPKNOT producer Greg Fidelman on the upcoming disc.

SCORPIONS' last full-length collection of new recordings was 2015's "Return To Forever", partially comprising songs the band had in the vault from the '80s. It was the final recorded appearance of SCORPIONS' longtime drummer James Kottak, who was dismissed from the band in September 2016. He has since been replaced by Mikkey Dee, formerly of MOTÖRHEAD.

Earlier this month, SCORPIONS announced that they will be taking over the Las Vegas Strip later this year with their exclusive headlining residency show. Promoted by Live Nation and Caesars Entertainment, SCORPIONS "Sin City Nights" kicks off Saturday, July 4 at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. SCORPIONS will be joined by special guests QUEENSRŸCHE.

SCORPIONS previously played a Las Vegas mini-residency in May 2016, consisting of five shows at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Support on those dates also came from QUEENSRŸCHE.

Watch Members Of FOO FIGHTERS, ANTHRAX, LAMB OF GOD, SEPULTURA Perform At This Year's 'Dimebash'

Members of FOO FIGHTERS, ANTHRAX, LAMB OF GOD, SEPULTURA, KING DIAMOND and SEBASTIAN BACH are among the musicians who took part in this year's "Dimebash" — an all-star jam tribute to "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, the late co-founder and guitarist of PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN — which was held on Thursday, January 16 at The Observatory OC in Santa Ana, California.

The all-star jam featured Dime's music and some of his favorite songs, with the Texas homegrown sounds of WHISKEYDICK opening the show.

The all-ages event, which also served as the unofficial kick-off for the Winter NAMM show, was hosted by Jose Mangin (Affliction, SiriusXM).

Fan-filmed video footage can be seen below.

Prior to this year's "Dimebash", event producer and Dimebag's longtime partner Rita Haney said: "This year will mark the 15-year anniversary since Darrell was taken from us… even more of a reason to come together with friends and chosen family to honor the man that brought so much love and laughter to our lives… not to mention some pretty sick tuneage!!! If you've never experienced 'the room' at 'Dimebash', it's something you can't describe — the love, the unity, the smiles, the magic. It's a special kind of vibe you have to check out at least once for yourself. Then you'll almost know what it's like to have Dime physically in the room."

"Dimebash" 2020 partners included Metal Blade, Dunlop Manufacturing, Dean Guitars, BackBeat BBQ and Affliction. Proceeds from the event will benefit music education and animal rescues.

STRYPER's MICHAEL SWEET: 'We Have Started Recording Our Best, Most Powerful Album Yet'

Openly Christian hard rockers STRYPER have entered SpiritHouse Recording Studios in Northampton, Massachusetts to begin recording their new album for a tentative summer release.

On Sunday (January 19), STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet shared an Instagram photo from the studio and included the following caption: "We have started recording our best, most powerful album yet. We're tracking a song called 'For God And Rock & Roll' now. We have the best engineer in the world with @dannyb413 and you won't find a better studio than Spirithouse Studios. We are truly blessed"

This past September, Sweet told The Metal Voice about the musical direction of STRYPER's follow-up to 2018's "God Damn Evil": "It's gonna be aligned with the last album, but taking it a step further. We're gonna do some things where people are gonna hear it and go, 'You've gotta be kidding me,' that's gonna surprise and shock people in a really good way. It's gonna be a metal album — it's not gonna be a pop album or pop-rock or glam metal and all these silly terms. It's gonna be a metal album. And we're gonna really pull some things out of the hat, man, and try to blow people's minds."

Formed 37 years ago, STRYPER is the first overtly Christian metal band to go mainstream. The group's name comes from Isaiah 53:5, which states: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

STRYPER's albums include "To Hell With The Devil", "Second Coming", "No More Hell To Pay", "Fallen" and the aforementioned "God Damn Evil".

Sweet's tenth solo album, "Ten", was released in October via Rat Pak Records in North America and Frontiers Music Srl in Europe.

CROWBAR's KIRK WINDSTEIN Debuts Cover Of JETHRO TULL Classic "Aqualung"

Kirk Windstein, the highly respected sludge metal pioneer and unmistakable earthmoving bellow of Crowbar, stomps forward as a solo artist for the very first time. On January 24, Entertainment One (eOne) will release Dream In Motion, Windstein's singular debut and a recording that sees him stretch his creative wings and strengthen his indelible legacy. Find pre-orders here.

In advance of the release, Windstein today debuts his reverential cover of the hugely influential Jethro Tull song, "Aqualung".

"'Aqualung' has always been one of my favorite classic rock songs," says Windstein. "Crowbar used to cover it. I’m really proud of the way the song came out as a whole and I hope that Ian Anderson and Martin Barre get to hear it at some point."

Recorded in Windstein's native Louisiana over a period of two years between tours and over holidays, Dream In Motion is a powerfully moving recording that pulls from every corner of the riff king's three-decade-plus career. The LP owns a lyrical depth, emotional weight, and musical muscle forged from the fires of thousands of worldwide live shows, a well-earned reputation for creating the melancholic melody that has become synonymous with New Orleans heavy metal, and a reflection on a life well-lived. Windstein’s solo foray is a heartfelt throwback to album-oriented-rock supremacy, eschewing the predictable acoustic record route for a more straight-ahead guitars approach, albeit one that’s no less soulful or meditative than Crowbar fans expect. Kirk handled all vocal duties, guitars, and bass on the album, with drums and effects by longtime producing partner and collaborator, Duane Simoneaux (Crowbar, Down, Exhorder).

A new video for the title track has been released. The video, directed by Justin Reich (Black Label Society, Royal Thunder), is streaming below.

The idea to record a solo album started out as, 'I’m going to do an acoustic record,' but that’s just so cliché, you know?" says Windstein. "Nothing against that, but It’s been done a million times. But I had been thinking about doing something a little more mellow for some time. It’s something I wanted to do, I needed to do. It’s another side of my songwriting, my personality. It’s another side of me. It’s something I did for myself. It’s not even that this isn’t heavy, because there are bits and pieces that are very heavy. But even the heaviest riff on this is something I couldn’t really do in Crowbar. If some Crowbar fans don’t like it, I’ll understand. But I hope people dig it."

The end result is simply stunning. Single note guitar work, simple power chords, clean tones, thundering five-string bass guitar, and standard tuning with nary a “drop” to be heard. “Dream In Motion,” which opens the record, is a barn-burning, rock ‘n’ roll song with just a taste of aggressive attitude. “Hollow Dying Man” is all vibe, with huge melodies and a hardscrabble blue-collar authenticity. The record closes with a faithful rendition of one of Windstein’s most enduring favorites: “Aqualung,” the title track of Jethro Tull’s 1971 conceptual masterpiece.

Tracklisting:

“Dream In Motion”
“Hollow Dying Man”
“Once Again”
“Enemy In Disguise”
“The World You Know”
“Toxic”
“The Healing”
“Necropolis”
“The Ugly Truth”
“Aqualung” (Jethro Tull cover)
