SCOTT GORHAM Says It's 'Disappointing' THIN LIZZY Won't Be Inducted Into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME This Year
THIN LIZZY guitarist Scott Gorham has expressed his disappointment over the fact that his band will not be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year.
The Phil Lynott-fronted outfit was on the ballot for the class of 2020 but failed to receive enough votes.
On Thursday (January 16), Gorham took to social media to write: "Firstly I would like to congratulate all the winners who have been inducted into the 2020 Hall Of Fame.
"I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to all THIN LIZZY fans around the world, who voted in huge numbers to support our nomination to be inducted into Hall Of Fame. To receive a nomination after so many years was indeed an honour and one that would have celebrated Philip for his genius to write music and lyrics that has touched us all.
"It is of course disappointing that despite your efforts, we did not make the final cut. It would have been great to be inducted, but knowing of your continued support over the years means ultimately more than being recognised by a panel of industry experts.
"I really wish there could be a Hall Of Fame for THIN LIZZY supporters, as I would definitely vote for each and everyone of you, because you truly understood what we were trying to do."
Since his untimely death in 1986, Lynott has left a musical legacy that continues to influence and inspire musicians around the globe. Even the legendary Bob Dylan has been quoted singing LIZZY's praises. Over the years, Lynott's songs have been covered by an array of such diverse performers as HENRY ROLLINS, THE CORRS, SMASHING PUMPKINS, RANDY BACHMAN, HUEY LEWIS, METALLICA and THE CURE.
In 2018, RTÉ, Ireland's national television and radio broadcaster, aired "Phil Lynott: Scéalta Ón Old Town", the story behind the making of the late THIN LIZZY singer's promotional video for his song "Old Town", on RTÉ One. The documentary was made exclusively for RTÉ.
After Lynott's death, Gorham continued to carry the torch for THIN LIZZY, reviving the band and performing with various lineups. In December 2012, Gorham formed a new band, BLACK STAR RIDERS, as an offshoot of THIN LIZZY. The quintet released its debut album, "All Hell Breaks Loose", in May 2013.
BLACK STAR RIDERS' fourth studio album, "Another State Of Grace", arrived last September via Nuclear Blast.
Firstly I would like to congratulate all the winners who have been inducted into the 2020 Hall of Fame.
I wanted to...

RUSH Music Sales Music Surge 2000% In U.S. After Death Of NEIL PEART
According to Billboard, RUSH song streams surged by 776% while sales grew by more than 2,000% in the U.S. in the days following the death of drummer Neil Peart.
Between January 10 and January 13, on-demand audio and video streams of RUSH's catalog increased to a combined 24.54 million. The band's 1981 classic "Tom Sawyer" was the most streamed song during the period, with 2.8 million listens, compared to the 698,000 streams it registered between January 6 and January 9. Song sales were at 19,000 compared to 1,000 in the previous three days, with album sales increasing 1,820% to 6,000.
Elsewhere, RUSH songs took up 23 of the 25 positions on Billboard's LyricFind U.S. and LyricFind Global charts dated January 18. The LyricFind Global and LyricFind U.S. charts rank the fastest-momentum-gaining tracks in lyric-search queries and usages globally and in the U.S., respectively, provided by LyricFind. The Global chart includes queries from all countries, including the U.S. Once again, "Tom Sawyer" was the most popular song on the Global chart, followed by "Limelight" (No. 2), "The Trees" (No. 3), "The Temples Of Syrinx" (No. 4), "Losing It" (No. 5) and "The Garden" (No. 6).
RUSH's final show took place at the Forum in Los Angeles on August 1, 2015. Peart indicated at the time that he wanted to retire while he was still able to play well, along with a desire to spend more time at home with his young daughter.
Peart died on January 7 at the age of 67 from an aggressive form of brain cancer that he battled for more than three years. The band announced his passing on January 10, setting off shockwaves and an outpouring of grief from fans and musicians all over the world. | +4

AVENGED SEVENFOLD's 'Live In The LBC & Diamonds In The Rough' To Be Released Digitally For First Time
AVENGED SEVENFOLD's platinum-certified DVD/CD "Live In The LBC & Diamonds In The Rough" will be released digitally for the very first time via Warner Records. "Diamonds In The Rough", originally released in 2008 as a compilation CD that included B-sides recorded during the making of the band's self-titled debut, will be released on February 7, while "Live In The LBC", originally released as a live DVD from the band's 2008 show at Long Beach Arena, will be released on March 6. Both releases are available for pre-order now.
The 2020 vinyl and digital release of "Diamonds In The Rough" is expanded by five new tracks, including "Set Me Free", out today, which was previously recorded — but never released — for their award-winning sixth studio album, "Hail To The King". The 16-track album also includes other hard-to-find tracks such as the fan favourite "St. James", "4AM" and "Lost It All", as well as the band’s cover of BLACK SABBATH's "Paranoid". "Diamonds In The Rough" will be released on limited-edition clear vinyl.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD co-founder and singer M. Shadows explains: "It's very typical of musicians to write 20 to 30 songs for a particular album. Most of the time, they take the best of the bunch and call it a day, discarding the rest. We have never written like that. We don't usually finish songs unless they are fulfilling a purpose. The one exception to this was during the self-titled era. We were experimenting with our sound, producing ourselves and we had no one to reel us in. Eventually, the unreleased songs from these sessions were released under the name 'Diamonds In The Rough'. We've heard the demand from many fans that want to stream the album and we wanted to make it special. So, we have remastered the album and added some hard to find tracks. We even found an unreleased track from the 'Hail To The King' sessions that we think you will enjoy."
"Diamonds In The Rough" track listing:
01. Demons
02. Girl I Know
03. Crossroads
04. Flash Of The Blade (IRON MAIDEN Cover)
05. Until The End
06. Tension
07. Walk (PANTERA Cover)
08. The Fight

13. Set Me Free (unreleased; recorded during the "Hail To The King" sessions)
14. 4 AM (B-side on the "Welcome To The Family" EP)
15. Lost It All (bonus track on Japanese edition of Nightmare)
16. Paranoid (BLACK SABBATH cover)

NAPALM DEATH To Release 'Logic Ravaged By Brute Force' Digital EP
After a highly successful year of international touring and continued work on a new studio album, U.K. grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH have announced a new seven-inch / digital EP to be released via Century Media Records on February 7. The release will kick off the start of the band's "Campaign For Musical Destruction" headline European tour alongside EYEHATEGOD, MISERY INDEX, ROTTEN SOUND and BAT.
The EP titled "Logic Ravaged By Brute Force" includes the brand-new title-track as well as a freshly recorded cover version of "White Kross", originally performed by SONIC YOUTH. This double-A-side EP is yet another NAPALM DEATH collectible item and is also meant as first teaser for the band's upcoming studio album, expected for release later in 2020.
NAPALM DEATH's frontman Mark "Barney" Greenway states about the EP: "In keeping with NAPALM DEATH custom, we had a vast swathe of new songs with many different flavors. So then naturally we moved into single territory and opted for 'Logic Ravaged By Brute Force'. It's the coldness and desperation of the guitar chords and voice that swung it. And then, seeing as SONIC YOUTH mash chords like few others, this cover of 'White Kross' just seemed to lift itself beyond the constraints of cover — or filler — song into a bit of a rumbling wall-of-sound epic".
The "Logic Ravaged By Brute Force" seven-inch EP will be available in the following versions:
* Black vinyl - Unlimited
* Blue vinyl - 200x copies via CM distro Europe
* Light Green vinyl - 100x copies via CM webshop Europe
* Neon Yellow vinyl - 100x copies via CM webshop USA (out February 28!)
* Orange vinyl - 600x exclusively from the band on the road!
NAPALM DEATH's upcoming follow-up to 2015's "Apex Predator - Easy Meat" will feature an appearance by guitarist Mitch Harris, who has been taking a leave of absence from NAPALM DEATH since late 2014 to focus on his family life.
Barney recently told Metal Mad TV that the "theme" of the upcoming NAPALM DEATH album is "the other." He explained: "One good example of people being treated as the other is this whole thing about immigrants. Not everybody, but there is a certain percentage of the population that looks at them as something different — like, not human, almost. I wanted to challenge that way of thinking. Not only is it the other immigrants or whatever you want to call people that migrate. There's other things as well — other people who are treated as 'the other.' I would suggest simply, generally, that it's not necessary to treat people differently."

SUICIDE SILENCE Releases Music Video For 'Two Steps'
California-based extreme metal titans SUICIDE SILENCE have released the official music video for the song "Two Steps". The track is taken from the band's sixth studio album, "Become The Hunter", on February 14 via Nuclear Blast. The disc was produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SEPULTURA, HATEBREED) at The Omen Room and mixed by Josh Wilbur (TRIVIUM, LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA). Ted Jensen (PANTERA, DEFTONES, SLIPKNOT) mastered the album at Sterling Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. The artwork for the album was created by Adrian Baxter.
The "Two Steps" clip was directed by filmed by Kevin Martin and Chris Nuietto and edited by Jerry Clubb.
"Become The Hunter" track listing:
01. Meltdown
02. Two Steps
03. Feel Alive
04. Love Me To Death
05. In Hiding
06. Death's Anxiety
07. Skin Tight
08. The Scythe
09. Serene Obscene
10. Disaster Valley
11. Become The Hunter
SUICIDE SILENCE's latest, self-titled album came out in February 2017 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The CD was produced by Ross Robinson, who has previously worked with KORN, SLIPKNOT, LIMP BIZKIT and SEPULTURA, among others, and was mixed by Joe Barresi (KYUSS, MELVINS, TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE).
The controversy over the album's sound — featuring a more melodic and clean singing style, in the vein of acts like DEFTONES and KORN — caused one disgruntled fan to launch a petition to stop the record coming out.
SUICIDE SILENCE's performance at the December 2015 benefit show in support of Mental Health America Of Los Angeles (MHLA) at The Observatory in Santa Ana was released last July as the album "Live & Mental" via Nuclear Blast.
"Live & Mental" was produced by the band while mixing was handled by Josh Gilbert (WOVENWAR, AS I LAY DYING). The cover photos were shot by Jerry John Nicholl.

MACHINE HEAD Joined By Former EXODUS Singer ROB DUKES For 'A Lesson In Violence' Performance In Phoenix (Video)
Former EXODUS singer Rob Dukes joined MACHINE HEAD on stage last night (Thursday, January 16) at Van Buren in Phoenix, Arizona to perform the EXODUS classic "A Lesson In Violence". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be seen below.
In a January 2019 interview with Psychology Today, Dukes talked about his 2014 dismissal from EXODUS and the return of his predecessor, Steve "Zetro" Souza. Rob, who fronted EXODUS for nine years, believed that the move was a business decision that enabled the band to play shows for more money with a "classic" lineup.
"I think towards the end, it became about business," Dukes said. "And the business aspect got in the way of friendship… I took it personal. I didn't really give a fuck about the business aspect… I don't care about the money. I just wanted to play. I missed the camaraderie. I missed the nights on the bus driving from Spain to Italy. And me and Lee [Altus, guitar] and some of the boys just hanging out late and bullshitting and talking and listening to BLACK SABBATH and arguing about who was the best hockey players."
Dukes joined EXODUS in January 2005 and appeared on four of the band's studio albums — "Shovel Headed Kill Machine" (2005), "The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A" (2007), "Let There Be Blood" (2008, a re-recording of EXODUS' classic 1985 LP, "Bonded By Blood") and "Exhibit B: The Human Condition" (2010).
Three years after he was fired from EXODUS, Dukes performed with the band during its July 2017 concert in San Francisco, California. He sang several songs with the group on the second of EXODUS's two-night stint at The Chapel in what marked the band's first headlining Bay Area club shows since late 2013.
Dukes currently resides in Arizona, where he reportedly works as a mechanic specializing in car restoration.

RONNIE JAMES DIO Hologram To Return To The Road In May
The Ronnie James Dio hologram will return to the road this spring.
Although no tour dates have yet been announced, Ronnie's widow and manager Wendy Dio told The Metal Voice at this past Wedneday's (January 15) Metal Hall Of Fame event in Anaheim, California that fans can expect to see a digital version of the legendary heavy metal singer back on tour in May and June.
Dio died in 2010 at the age of 67 from stomach cancer. The singer's hologram was created by a company called Eyeillusion and made its debut at the Wacken Open Air festival in August 2016 in front of more than 75,000 fans.
After the tour's initial seven-date run was completed in December 2017, Ronnie's hologram underwent some changes before the launch of the first 2019 leg of the "Dio Returns", which kicked off in late May in Fort Myers, Florida and concluded at the end of June in Los Angeles, California.
The Dio hologram production uses audio of Ronnie's live performances from throughout his career, with the DIO band playing live, consisting of Craig Goldy on guitar, Simon Wright on drums and Scott Warren on keyboards, along with Bjorn Englen on bass. Also appearing with them are former JUDAS PRIEST singer Tim "Ripper" Owens and ex-LYNCH MOB frontman Oni Logan.
The "Dio Returns" 17-song set consists of seven tunes sung by the Dio hologram — the rest feature Owens and Logan separately or together — and encompasses material from Dio's lengthy career, including his earlier days in RAINBOW and BLACK SABBATH.

SYMPHONY X Singer RUSSELL ALLEN And Ex-NIGHTWISH Frontwoman ANETTE OLZON: Listen To 'Worlds Apart' Title Track
Noted progressive metal vocalists Russell Allen (SYMPHONY X, ADRENALINE MOB) and Anette Olzon (THE DARK ELEMENT, ex-NIGHTWISH) will release a collaborative album titled "Worlds Apart" on March 6 via Frontiers Music Srl. The project will be issued under the moniker ALLEN/OLZON.
Allen and acclaimed Swedish guitarist, songwriter and producer Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR, MAGNUS KARLSSON'S FREE FALL) collaborated successfully on three critically acclaimed albums where Russell dueted with Norwegian singer Jorn Lande. After a break in their collaboration on said albums, where former STRATOVARIUS guitarist Timo Tolkki stepped in and oversaw an album, Magnus has returned to the fold, but with an exciting new twist to the formula. This time, Russell and Magnus welcome none other than the amazingly talented Olzon as Allen's vocal partner and offer up an unbelievable new duets album.
"Worlds Apart" track listing:
01. Never Die
02. Worlds Apart
03. I'll Never Leave You
04. What If I Live
05. Lost Soul
06. No Sign Of Life
07. One More Chance
08. My Enemy
09. Who You Really Are
10. Cold Inside
11. Who's Gonna Stop Me Now
Recording lineup:
Vocals - Russell Allen, Anette Olzon
Guitars, bass and keyboards - Magnus Karlsson
Drums - Anders Köllerfors
Since the end of her five-year stint with NIGHTWISH in 2012, Olzon released a solo album, 2014's "Shine", and formed THE DARK ELEMENT with former SONATA ARCTICA guitarist Jani Liimatainen. The group's self-titled debut album was released in 2017; a follow-up, "Songs The Night Sings", was released in November.
Over the past 14 years, Allen — best known as the front man of long-running progressive metal group SYMPHONY X — has released four acclaimed collaborative albums with Norwegian singer Jørn Lande (MASTERPLAN, AVANTASIA, JORN). The first three ALLEN/LANDE releases were produced and written by Karlsson, with the fourth and most recent — 2014's "The Great Divide" — produced and written by Tolkki.
Last month, Anette commented on the upcoming LP, writing on social media: "So this is my secret project I've hinted about. To make an album with such a great and versatile singer as Russell Allen is an honor for me, and to have Magnus Karlsson making the songs and playing is also an honor."
Allen — who has toured with TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA since 2013 — was recently injured during the rehearsals for TSO's annual winter tour. He will spend much of 2020 touring with SYMPHONY X, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. | +6

Watch DAVE LOMBARDO, GARY HOLT And PHIL DEMMEL Perform SLAYER 'Reign In Blood' Classics At METAL ALLEGIANCE Concert
Former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo joined Gary Holt (guitar; SLAYER, EXODUS), Phil Demmel (guitar; MACHINE HEAD, VIO-LENCE), Jack Gibson (bass; EXODUS) and Mark Osegueda (vocals; DEATH ANGEL) on stage last night (Thursday, January 16) at the METAL ALLEGIANCE concert at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, Californa to perform three SLAYER "Reign In Blood"-album classics: "Postmortem", "Raining Blood" and "Angel Of Death". Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.
An original member of SLAYER, Lombardo was effectively fired from the band after sitting out the group's Australian tour in February/March 2013 due to a contract dispute with the other members of SLAYER. He was replaced by Paul Bostaph, who was previously SLAYER's drummer from 1992 until 2001 and who had recorded four albums with the band. Lombardo currently splits his time between crossover pioneers SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, horror-punk icons MISFITS and hardcore supergroup DEAD CROSS.
Holt began filling in for SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman at live shows in 2011, and became the band's full-time co-guitarist as of 2013, while remaining a member of EXODUS. Holt played on SLAYER's final album, "Repentless", which came out in 2015. The band's other guitarist, Kerry King, told ArtistDirect how he worked with Holt during the recording of the record. "When I did leads, I probably did half of them," he said. "Gary came in and did his. Then, I probably did the other half of mine. He got to play off of mine on some songs. I got to play off of his on other songs."
Demmel filled in for Holt for four SLAYER European shows in December 2018 after Gary returned home to be with his dying father. Phil, who had only played his last show with MACHINE HEAD the day prior to being asked to join SLAYER on the road, later credited SLAYER with "saving" his musical career. "In under 24 hours, I went from the last day of a tour wondering whether I was even good enough to be bands any more to this mind-blowing text from Kerry King asking if I could play in SLAYER," he said.
Hanneman contracted necrotizing fasciitis, also known as flesh-eating disease, in January 2011 from a spider bite in his backyard. The infection ravaged the flesh and tissues of Hanneman's arm, leading to numerous surgeries, skin grafts and intense periods of rehab that forced him into semi-retirement and left him near death at several points. Hanneman eventually died in May 2013 from alcohol-related cirrhosis of the liver. He is credited for writing many of SLAYER's classic songs, including "Angel Of Death" and "South Of Heaven".
SLAYER played its last-ever concert in November at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Exclusive: WAYWARD DAWN Premieres “Apathy” Video
“Apathy” is the first single from the upcoming album "Haven Of Lies" of young old school death metal band Wayward Dawn from Denmark. The album is produced, recorded and mixed by Jacob Bredahl (Hatesphere) and mastered by Brad Boatright of Audiosiege.
With the release of their critically acclaimed debut album “Soil Organic Matter” in 2018 and more than 40 gigs in Denmark and Germany, young death metal act Wayward Dawn from Skanderborg, Denmark have slowly but surely crawled their way up from the underground to spread the word of their filthy death metal. After the departure of their former vocalist Niklas Lykke (LIVLØS), the band decided to continue as a four-piece with guitarist Rasmus Johansen and bassist Kasper Szupienko Petersen doing the vocal duties.
Now Wayward Dawn will return with their sophomore album Haven Of Lies, set to be released via Mighty Music in April. Recorded and produced by Jacob Bredahl at Dead Rat Studio and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Obituary, Nails, Full of Hell) the nine track long album consist of 35 minutes of gritty, primal and utterly nasty death metal. Haven Of Lies drags you down the deepest abyss of human depravity and assaults the listener with down tuned guitars, grimy bass, cavernous drums, and rotten growls and shrieks. The lyrical theme throughout the record centers on human tendencies during times of crisis. It questions our ability to confront reality in order to cope with the harshness of the situation, thus creating a haven of lies.
Lineup:
Rasmus Johansen - Guitar/Vocals
Kasper Szupienko Petersen - Bass/Vocals
Jakob Kristensen - Guitar
Lukas Nysted – Drums

THE DEAD DAISIES Issue Studio Highlights Video
"We all loved being in the studio," says The Dead Daisies. "We're in the process of putting together some of the highlights. Check out this short teaser."
Rock ’n’ Roll is a trip, not a destination… we all know how the saying goes! To that end, 2020 will see The Dead Daisies continue their journey with new music, performances and adventures.
The Dead Daisies have gone from strength to strength since the release of their self-titled album in 2013. They have released four studio, one live and one covers album to a growing army of fans worldwide and are praised by the global media in an era where rock has been declared dead time and time again.
The current incarnation of The Dead Daisies features guitarist Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio), drummer Deen Castronovo (Journey, Bad English), bassist and singer Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion), and rhythm guitarist David Lowy (Red Phoenix, Mink).
Four previously released videos, also showcasing work on the upcoming, as yet untitled album can be seen below.
The Dead Daisies have released a new song, "Righteous Days", which can be heard on the band's official website, and via the video below:
Addressing the lineup change, The Dead Daisies issued the following statement: "The Dead Daisies are a musical collective, whose members come together through a common love for great rock music. It’s a living, breathing, musical organism with the credo, 'Rock is indeed alive & well!'
From the band’s inception, the idea was for members to bring their own ideas to the table but also have the flexibility to come and go when working on their other projects. Both John Corabi and Marco Mendoza are, and always will be, a part of The Dead Daisies musical family, but at this point in time they have decided to do some work on their own solo projects.
With the addition of Glenn Hughes, The Daisies supercharge their front line through his rock solid bass grooves and unmatched vocal intensity. As all fans know, the man is a true original and member of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. One might say: 'They don't build rockers like him anymore.'
Followers can expect more high-voltage rock songs, indomitable grooves and spell-binding lyrics, all the ingredients that have made this music so timeless, out-living trends of the modern day. The sound of The Dead Daisies is firmly rooted in the hard rock way of life we all love, but they are constantly evolving and bringing new dynamics to a classic style."

The official music video for "The Burning", the title track of the second album from BRITISH LION, the side project of Steve Harris, bassist and co-founder of metal icons IRON MAIDEN, can be seen below. The LP will be released on January 17 in digipack CD, double gatefold vinyl and digital download formats via Explorer1 Music (E1).
BRITISH LION comprises vocalist Richard Taylor, guitarists David Hawkins and Grahame Leslie, Steve Harris on bass and keyboards and drummer Simon Dawson.
Recorded, engineered and mixed at Barnyard Studios by Tony Newton and produced by Steve Harris, "The Burning" is crammed with powerful hard rock melodies.
Richard Taylor says: "We've been working on 'The Burning' for the past couple of years and everyone is really pleased with the results. We started playing some of the songs live on recent tours and got a fantastic reaction from our fans so we are really excited to be sharing this album with the world. We're also looking forward to heading out on the road again and seeing everyone at the shows."
BRITISH LION has been tirelessly honing its live show performances with club tours every year and festival dates whenever time allows, building and establishing a firm and dedicated fan-base, reaching 24 countries across the globe so far.
Asked how the musical direction of BRITISH LION's follow-up effort is different from "British Lion", Harris told The Metal Voice: "The band has evolved over the last five or six years live — we've played quite a lot of shows in Europe and stuff — so it's become more of a tighter band. I think we've found our direction is naturally evolving, and if anything, I think it's getting heavier than it was, really. It's very melodic. The songs are… I don't know… There's still kind of a UFO, THIN LIZZY type of influence, I think, in a lot of them, [and] there are influences too, but in general, I think we are getting just a little bit harder-edged, really. These days, I suppose there are some bands that make even MAIDEN sound like THE MOODY BLUES — there's some real, real heavy bands out there — so what I think is heavy and what other people think is 'getting heavier' is two [completely different things]. But we feel we're a bit harder-edged than we were. So it is a bit of a slight directional change, possibly. But it's been a natural thing; it's not something we consciously thought, 'Oh, we've gotta go this way.' It's just been the way we're playing our live shows — it's very powerful, much more powerful live than on record, I think. And I think with the second record, we've tried to capture that essence of what we are live more."
BRITISH LION's debut album sold around 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 3 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"British Lion" was released in the U.S. in September 2012 via Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). The disc was mixed by Kevin Shirley, whose credits include IRON MAIDEN as well as LED ZEPPELIN, JOURNEY and RUSH.

DEATH ANGEL Guitarist ROB CAVESTANY: 'It Would Be Amazing' If We Won A GRAMMY For 'Humanicide'
DEATH ANGEL guitarist Rob Cavestany says that it would be "amazing" if his band won a Grammy at this year's ceremony.
The San Francisco Bay Area metallers are among the "Best Metal Performance" nominees at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on on January 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will broadcast live on the CBS television network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. DEATH ANGEL is nominated for "Humanicide", the title track of its latest album, which came out last May via Nuclear Blast.
Asked by Grammy.com what he will do if DEATH ANGEL wins a Grammy, Rob said: "We are so conditioned to learning how to deal with bad news and shit happening to us that none of us had even mentioned to each other the possibility that we would win. We're just happy to be nominated. However, when you're alone in your bunk, thinking about it, at some points I'm like, 'Shit, I better prepare a speech, and what if we do win?!' Of course I've played it out in my mind. Like if our name gets called, I could just see us like fucking totally in shock staring at each other. We are going to be hilarious, because we are such the underdogs that it would be amazing. But um, yeah, we'll prepare a speech and hope and pray."
When the interviewer pointed out to Rob that there will be "a room full of big names" to hear him speak, the guitarist said: "Fucking right. Barbra Streisand over here and Lady Gaga there and I'm just going to go crazy 'cause I love these artists. I'm definitely not a one-dimensional metaller. I just hope I can speak to actually say 'hi' and not just sit there like freaked out so hard. To me, it's all about catching mojo. Every person's hand I can touch that that has 'it.' Someone I respect and admire like that, I just want to get, get the mojo off them and give me some of that for whatever I do. Let me collect a little of the magic dust that's going around in that room."
"Humanicide" saw DEATH ANGEL returning to producer and friend Jason Suecof (DEICIDE, TRIVIUM) of Audiohammer studios for the recording and mixing, along with the mastering of the legendary Ted Jensen (SLIPKNOT, PANTERA) of Sterling Sound, who added the final touches and brought it all to life, with artist Brent Elliott White (LAMB OF GOD, MEGADETH) providing the ominous cover artwork.

Video Premiere: SKINLAB's 'The Fury Within The Fire'
"The Fury Within The Fire", the new music video from veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers SKINLAB, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's latest album, "Venomous", which was released in October via Art Is War Records, The disc was engineered, produced and mixed by Ulrich Wild, who stated about the effort: "I love working with SKINLAB. This album is heavy and intense. As brutal as it is, it gets very melodic at times, and Steev's [Esquivel, bass/vocals] iconic voice is tying it all together."
Esquivel said: "'Venomous' is the album that best represents SKINLAB in 2019 — heavy, brutal and honest. We feel that we've stood the test of time without losing integrity and chasing trends. We're back stronger than ever."
"Venomous" features 10 tracks recorded over the duration of 2019:
01. The Fury Within The Fire
02. Amerikill
03. Venomous
04. Overcoming
05. Demons
06. For The Fallen
07. Far From Grace
08. Eyes Of Your Enemy
09. End Of Silence
10. The Family
"Venomous" marks SKINLAB's recording debut with new drummer Fabian Vestod, who joined the band in 2018 following the exit of the longtime drummer Paul Hopkins.
Esquivel said: "Fabian, who is no stranger to SKINLAB, has been friends with the band for many years. Fabian came in strong and started recording demos and immediately became the obvious choice that he was our guy."
In 2018, SKINLAB announced the return of guitarist Steve Green, best known to fans as Snake. Snake remains a member of THE DEVIL IN CALIFORNIA, with whom he's been performing since 2015.
Formed in 1994, SKINLAB has released five studio albums: 1997's "Bound, Gagged And Blindfolded", 1999's "Disembody: The New Flesh", 2002's "ReVolting Room", 2009's "The Scars Between Us" and "Venomous".
SKINLAB has had different lineups throughout its history, with Esquivel as the only mainstay.
The band's current lineup is completed by lead guitarist Marcos Medina Rivera. | +3

RICHIE FAULKNER Has 'A Ton Of Ideas' For JUDAS PRIEST's Next Album
Richie Faulkner says that he has "a ton of ideas" for JUDAS PRIEST's follow-up to "Firepower" album. Released in March 2018, "Firepower" was the second LP to feature the 40-year-old guitarist, who was selected to fill the void left by founding member K.K. Downing following his exit in 2011.
On Monday, Faulkner revealed via Twitter that JUDAS PRIEST was about to begin the songwriting process for its new disc. "Myself, Glenn [Tipton, guitar] and Rob [Halford, vocals] are getting together next month to start putting it together," he wrote. "I have a ton of ideas I've been working on, we just have to get together and see what metal magic we can create"
"Firepower" entered the Billboard 200 chart at position No. 5, making it PRIEST's highest-charting album ever. "Redeemer Of Souls" debuted and peaked at No. 6, while 2008's "Nostradamus" landed at No. 11 and 2005's "Angel Of Retribution" came in at No. 13.
"Firepower" moved 49,000 equivalent album units in first week of release. Of that sum, 48,000 were in traditional album sales, just shy of the 54,000 copies sold by "Angel Of Retribution" in that album's first week. The "Firepower" chart position was bolstered by sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer in association with the band's spring 2018 North American tour.
Across the pond, "Firepower" landed at position No. 5 on the U.K. album chart. It marked the band's highest ranking, and first time in the Top 10, since "British Steel" reached No. 4 in 1980. Elsewhere, "Firepower" also became PRIEST's first-ever No. 1 in Sweden.
"Firepower" was recorded by British producer Andy Sneap, the band's longtime collaborator Tom Allom and engineer Mike Exeter (BLACK SABBATH). The cover artwork for "Firepower" was created by the Chilean/Italian artist Claudio Bergamin.
Halford recently told Goldmine that PRIEST "had one of the strongest experiences ever with the 'Firepower' record." He explained: "Just when you think you've not exactly done it all, seen it all and had it all, you go into the studio with this great producer combination that we've never known, and the great music that Richie brought into the mix after he first kind of embedded himself and grown during 'Redeemer Of Souls'. By the time we were at 'Firepower', it really jelled and he knew what he needed to do. 'Redeemer' was still a process of discovery for him. With 'Firepower', he was more attuned and acclimatized to it."
Rob continued: "The general attitude and atmosphere was a bit like how we went in to making 'Painkiller', which was an important record to make for lots of reasons. The way that 'Painkiller' was able to really refine and define this band, I think we came to the same kind of place again with the music from 'Firepower'. And this far on, that was just a great, great time for the band — it's really lifted us in many ways. As a result, the prospect of making the follow-up to 'Firepower' is really intriguing. I haven't a clue where we're going to go with it, but as far as the opportunity in the sense of really wanting to make another strong, important record goes, you know, watch out — the PRIEST will definitely be back. [Laughs]"
Myself, Glenn and Rob are getting together next month to start putting it together. I have a ton of ideas I’ve been working on, we just have to get together and see what metal magic we can create RHRF DOTF https://t.co/cmuSaZSmKd

SLIPKNOT's 'We Are Not Your Kind' Certified Silver In U.K.
SLIPKNOT's latest album, "We Are Not Your Kind", has been certfitied silver in the United Kingdom for equivalent sales of 60,000 units.
The platinum, gold and silver certifications awarded by the British Phonographic Industry in recognition of sales milestones have included audio streaming data since June 2015, with 1,000 streams counting as one "sale."
When it was first released last August, "We Are Not Your Kind" landed at No. 1 on the U.K. album chart — 18 years after SLIPKNOT first topped the list with 2001's "Iowa". "We Are Not Your Kind" delivered combined units of close to 32,000, comprised of 22,000 physical sales, 5,000 downloads and over 4,000 equivalent sales.
In the U.S., "We Are Not Your Kind" sold 118,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at position No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Of that sum, 102,000 were in album sales.
"We Are Not Your Kind"'s sales in the U.S. were boosted by a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with SLIPKNOT's summer 2019 tour.
The LP was SLIPKNOT's fifth top 10 effort on the Billboard 200. The Iowa-based masked metallers previously landed in the top 10 with 2014's ".5: The Gray Chapter" (No. 1), 2008's "All Hope Is Gone" (No. 1), 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" (No. 2) and 2001's "Iowa" (No. 3).
"We Are Not Your Kind" was once again recorded at a Los Angeles studio with producer Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" and helmed ".5: The Gray Chapter".

SONS OF APOLLO's MMXX Album Unboxed; Video
Sons Of Apollo - former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force) - will release their second studio album, appropriately titled MMXX (pronounced: 20/20), tomorrow, Friday, January 17, via InsideOutMusic/Sony. Check out an unboxing video below:
Produced by The Del Fuvio Brothers (Portnoy and Sherinian), MMXX will be released as a standard CD package, Limited Edition 2 CD package (which includes instrumental mixes and a cappella excerpts), 2 LP + CD package, and on all digital formats. Pre-order here.
“Stylistically, we have followed the same path as the debut,” outlines drummer Mike Portnoy. “But we feel that it has come out stronger, simply because we know one another better. Psychotic Symphony was the first time the five of us had worked together, so there was bound to be an air of experimentation happening. Now, we can draw on having the experience not only of recording that album, but also of touring together a lot. And now there is clearly a lot more obvious chemistry going on.”
“We did 83 shows on the last tour,” adds keyboardist Derek Sherinian. “And it was so worthwhile, because we came out of it with a stronger bond, and that is certainly reflected in what we wrote.”
The writing process began at the start of the year, as Portnoy, Sherinian and guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal got together. “The three of us were at my home studio in Pennsylvania,” explains Portnoy. “And it took about three weeks to get all the music written. That was a very smooth process. The last time, it certainly must have felt a little weird for Bumblefoot to be writing with Derek and me, because we were strangers to him. Now, we know one another better and that helped things push along.”
“Because we all have our home studios, it meant everyone could record there as and when they had opportunity,” continues Sherinian. “We all had the luxury of being able to take our time to get all the parts done, which was a huge help in the way the album's come out. I suppose in all, it took about eight months to record everything.”
The lyrics were written by Soto, who also came up with the melody lines with input from Sherinian. “While Jeff was left to come up with the words on his own, as the melody lines are part of the music, it made sense for me to be involved with that part,” says the keyboard player.
There are eight tracks on MMXX, with variations in length totalling 60 minutes. “The final song is 'New World Today, which is 16 minutes long,” says Portnoy. “This one has elements similar to 'Opus Maximus' and 'Labyrinth' on the previous album. It has some insane, brilliant instrumental moments, which I am sure the fans will love.”
“We wanted to do something epic here, as we did with 'Opus Maximus' last time around,” adds Sherinian. “You have to remember that Mike and I come from Dream Theater, where we never bothered about how long a song was. So, for us doing a 16 minute track is not a problem.”
The album title was inspired by a simple chronological fact. “This will be released in mid-January 2020,” says Portnoy. “That means it will be one of the first releases in what is a new decade. So I came up with the idea of calling it '2020,’ except having it written in the Latin form of 'MMXX'.” And the album’s artwork has been created by Thomas Ewerhard (who was responsible for the cover design of Psychotic Symphony), which inevitably reflects the title. As Portnoy explains, “For the first record, we had a mythological feel. This time around though, there's a much more futuristic style to what we've got. It has a very 21st century appeal. And the band crest is more polished, cleaned up and a lot more modern than last time, when it had an old fashioned look.”
“Each member of this band has their own signature sound on their instrument,” adds Sherinian. “And when you put all of this together what you get is a wonderful five-headed beast. It makes this a sonically special band, which is definitely what comes across on MMXX. You can hear odd time signatures and amazingly crazy performances here. Overall, we've been satisfyingly more adventurous this time than we were before, and I know people are sure to love what we've done.”

Ex-QUEENSRŸCHE Singer GEOFF TATE: 'NEIL PEART Changed Drumming For Many People'
Former QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate discussed Neil Peart's legacy during an appearance last night (Wednesday, January 15) at the Metal Hall Of Fame event at the Marriott Delta Garden Grove in Anaheim, California. The legendary RUSH drummer died on January 7 in Santa Monica, California after a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 67 years old.
Asked by The Metal Voice to comment on Neil's passing, Geoff said (see video below): "Neil Peart changed drumming for many people and really exposed to drumming to people who hadn't thought about it before past keeping the beat. He was a musician's musician, an incredible lyricist and an all-around really nice guy. I had the good fortune and opportunity to hang out with him several times in my life and he was always a gentleman and treated everybody around him with respect and dignity. [He was] an exceptional man."
Back in 2009, Tate told VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show" that RUSH was "one of those bands that really shaped [QUEENSRŸCHE] when we were first starting out. You know — '2112', 'Caress Of Steel'. Those albums were the thing that we were all about."
Tate elaborated on the influence RUSH's "2112" LP had on him in a separate interview with Prog magazine. He said: "When that album came out, it captured my imagination because it was one of those with lots of sound effects and atmosphere, and that put you in the mood of the stories. Things like 'Xanadu' and 'Cygnus X-1', those tracks were fantastic. They had a lot of interesting audio scenes that they painted, and with this incredibly complex but melodically catchy and precisely played music. It was played well and the production is fantastic. It's a great album to listen to on headphones — it really places you in the scenes that Neil Peart was writing."
Regarding the song "Xanadu", he said: "I absolutely love that track. The type of melodies they were experimenting with, that Middle Eastern influence, I wasn't familiar with that and it really opened my eyes to world music for the first time. Then that becomes a life's journey. RUSH were one of those bands that influenced me the most."
Geoff has spent the last couple of years celebrating the 30th anniversary of QUEENSRŸCHE's "Operation: Mindcrime" album by performing the LP in its entirety on European and U.S. tours. He will perform the QUEENSRŸCHE albums "Rage For Order" and "Empire" in their entirety on the "Empire 30th Anniversary Tour" in 2020. | +3

CARMINE APPICE Pays Tribute To NEIL PEART At 'Metal Hall Of Fame' (Video)
Carmine Appice paid tribute to Neil Peart at last night's (Wednesday, January 15) Metal Hall Of Fame event at the Marriott Delta Garden Grove in Anaheim, California. The legendary RUSH drummer died on January 7 in Santa Monica, California after a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 67 years old.
After a tribute to Peart by Modern Drummer's Billy Amendola, Appice took the stage to say (see video below): "I met Neil a few times. I wasn't a close friend. But the times I did hang with him, he was really the nicest guy — one of the most polite, really genuine kind of people. And he was always nice to everyone that I've seen around him when I hung out with him… I was around 10 years before Neil, so I wasn't [sitting around and saying], 'I wanna learn these RUSH songs, practice RUSH songs.' But Neil told me that he listened to some of the stuff I did that was an influence on him. And that really hit home with me, because when I heard that 'Tom Sawyer' track, I said, 'Man, that is some great playing.' … So I really had a lot of respect for him just on that one track. And his history is ridiculous. So, God bless Neil. Rest in peace."
When Peart's death was first announced, Carmine took to his social media to write: "I am shocked and sorry at the news about Neil Peart gone at such a young age. My sympathies and prayers go out to his family and close friends and other members of RUSH . He was a great drummer . He influenced legions drummers. Very Sad. Neil was always a nice guy to hang the times we did hang together. God Bless him hope RIP friend"
Carmine, who has toured with Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart, VANILLA FUDGE and Jeff Beck, told Drum magazine in 2011 that some of his key innovations came from the constraints of playing live rock music during his formative years. "All the stuff we all did — the stuff that I am [credited with] starting was just stuff that I did out of necessity," he said. "I pioneered the use of big drum sets and played with the butt end of the sticks early on. I did that because there were no P.A. systems."
Peart joined RUSH in 1974. He was considered one of the best rock drummers of all time, alongside John Bonham of LED ZEPPELIN; Keith Moon of THE WHO; and Ginger Baker of CREAM. Peart was also RUSH's primary lyricist, drawing inspiration from everything from sci-fi to Ayn Rand.

BRET MICHAELS Reveals Skin Cancer Scare
POISON frontman Bret Michaels has revealed that he is about to undergo two separate surgeries — one to repair a torn rotator cuff and another to have a patch of skin cancer removed.
Michaels offered an update on his health via a personal message on his official web site. He wrote: "After a very recent kickoff to the new year, physical & MRI it has been brought to my attention that I have torn my right shoulder rotator cuff which would answer the question why it looks like a lump or bone was sticking out of my right shoulder. A little more complex I will also have to undergo a procedure to remove skin cancer that was detected after a recent biopsy."
He continued: "I'm in the hands of incredible specialists who are both positive for great outcomes. It may slow me down a bit at the beginning of the year, but if God willing I promise this year will be awesome. Just a few less solo shows & special events until I get this all squared up. As always continuing great diabetic maintenance to keep on rocking in 2020!"
Bret's next solo show is scheduled for January 23 at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa in Catoosa, Oklahoma.
Michaels survived one of his most difficult health years to date in 2010 when he faced an emergency appendectomy, a brain hemorrhage and heart surgery.
"I dealt with a lot of health issues during that year, and by the grace of God and a lot of hard work and therapy, I'm still on the good side of the dirt and having a good time," he told People last month.
The 56-year-old rocker, who is a father to two daughters, is a lifelong Type 1 juvenile diabetic who continues to raise funds and awareness for not only diabetic causes, but St. Jude Children's Hospital, PetSmart charities and more.
This summer, POISON will embark on "The Stadium Tour" with MÖTLEY CRÜE, DEF LEPPARD and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS. | 0

ANNIHILATOR: 'Dressed Up For Evil' Lyric Video
"Dressed Up For Evil", the new lyric video from Canadian thrash metal veterans ANNIHILATOR, can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Ballistic, Sadistic", due on January 24 via Silver Lining Music.
Founding guitarist, vocalist, producer and principal songwriter Jeff Waters states about the song: "Evil in the guise of a man; that's how I would describe the theme in this one. People who have no good in them. Destroying all in their way with abuse, lies, and negativity. Generally, just being a nasty human being and ruining lives in the name of money; thinking that it makes them special. It just makes them evil and a waste of life. Musically speaking, this one is as old-school ANNIHILATOR metal as it gets. It's obvious that the vibe in this tune reminds us of the early days of the band; even extending back to the demo days from '84-'88. A highlight for me in this song is the legendary voice of RAVEN's John Gallagher on backing vocals with Durham's Kat Shevil Gillham (WINDS OF GENOCIDE). An honor to have John on this record and his voice helps make this song a killer. Oh, and lots of shred guitar, as some have been demanding for a while! We hope you like this one... we do!"
Cited by bands in the likes of MEGADETH, PANTERA, DREAM THEATER, CHILDREN OF BODOM, LAMB OF GOD, OPETH, TRIVIUM and many, many more as having some influence on their music, Waters and his bandmates have continued to tour the world year after year while consistently putting out high-quality "true metal" music.
Written, performed, engineered and produced by none other than Waters himself, "Ballistic, Sadistic" was recorded at the brand new, state-of-the-art Watersound Studios UK in Durham earlier this year.
Waters says: "Almost every artist initially loves the songs they create. They are like your babies. In my case, it is difficult to be the main writer/producer and stay fresh, come up with new ideas or make old ones better and I am well aware of that. Since 'we' love what we do, we can be blinded to just how good or bad a song or record really is. Time will tell. Press, fans, band members, label, etc., they ALL will tell you what they think and, in their own ways, they are usually right. In this case, I throw that nonsense in the garbage and can tell you that we have made a record that is angry, technical, back to the first three records vibes and it is going to be difficult to continue writing another record after releasing this one. Best record I've made since 2005's 'Schizo Deluxe' and I think many will argue that this new one is in the top three. From the 'Stonewall'-esque track 'Psycho Ward' to the haunting 'I Am Warfare', the pissed-off 'The Attitude' to the aggression and old-school technicality of 'Out With The Garbage', the record is like this: take the 'Alice', 'Neverland' and 'Set The World On Fire' records, make them angry, combine the old-school production with modern high-tech studio gear, then add the best guitar work I didn't know I still had in me, and you've got the best we could possibly offer. I honestly cannot wait for everyone to hear this."

AMBERIAN DAWN Releases Music Video For 'Looking For You' Title Track
Finnish melodic metallers AMBERIAN DAWN have released the official music video for their latest single, the title track of their upcoming album, "Looking For You". In a nutshell, this high voltage fusion perfectly represents the upcoming album and its poetic sound.
The "Looking For You" clip aesthetically mirrors the conflict between memories, desires and leaving your ancient life behind. Monumental melodic vocal lines that remind of the Swedish pop giants ABBA pair with strong keyboard-driven '80s pop-influenced sounds and merge with heavy drums and guitar riffs into an impressive genre-fluid creation. This addictive mix can only be described as follows: Finnish ABBA metal at its finest. AMBERIAN DAWN developed its style and spiced it up by entering and creating a new musical universe.
Keyboardist Tuomas Seppälä states: "This is the crown jewel of the album. This song is exactly what so-called 'ABBA metal' is all about. Haunting and dramatic keyboards, strong melodies and tons of vocal tracks. I worked closely with Finnish synthesizer artist Kebu to achieve this wonderful vintage keyboard sound. I let myself go into world of '80s synthesizer music and then my bandmates helped me to arrange the song into an AMBERIAN DAWN song."
"Looking For You" will be released on January 31. AMBERIAN DAWN is navigating into a new style, which is even more melodic, keyboard-driven and not only a sophisticated symbiosis but yet their own style: The new album is packed with well-polished and immaculate songwriting, full of catchy melodies and epic keyboard parts that immediately send shivers down your spine.
The multi-faceted and emotional lyrics provide a suitable background for soaring guitars and elegant classical interludes: a highly addictive cocktail that is topped off by a cover version of ABBA's "Lay All Your Love On Me".
AMBERIAN DAWN is:
Vocals: "Capri" Päivi Selo
Guitar: Emil Pohjalainen
Bass: Jukka Hoffren
Drums: Joonas Pykälä-aho
Keyboards: Tuomas Seppälä

Frontiers Music Srl has announced that Semblant will release their Frontiers' debut, Obscura, on March 6. Pre-order here. The first single, "Mere Shadow: is available now on all digital music outlets. A music video for the song can be found below.
One of the rapidly rising stars of their scene in South America, Semblant is more than ready for the world stage. The band received international praise from the metal community with the release of the album Lunar Manifesto (2014), with the singles "What Lies Ahead", "Dark Of The Day," and "Incinerate" combining for more than 30 million views on YouTube. Now, Semblant are ready for the next phase of their career with the upcoming release of the highly anticipated album, Obscura.
The band formed in 2006 in Curitiba, Brazil when singer Sergio Mazul and keyboardist J. After a few years of changing line-ups, the group established itself with the addition of Mizuho Lin (female vocals), Juliano Ribeiro (guitar), Welyntom "Thor" Sikora (drums), and Johann Piper (bass) to the band.
Vocalist Mizuho Lin says, "It's an honor to be part of such a traditional label like Frontiers. We've been composing and preparing ourselves for at least two years to finally get 'Obscura' ready and we're super excited to begin this new era working together with the label!"
Singer Sergio Mazul adds. "We're really excited to start this amazing new era of Semblant with Frontiers. Besides my doom, gothic, thrash and death influences, I'm a great enthusiast of all kinds of hard rock and heavy metal, having collected a lot of titles released by the label. They've been doing amazing work worldwide with new bands and Semblant will surely figure as a new jolt of energy to Frontiers' roster, with our dark and more extreme influences in our songs. And we're sure that Frontiers will make the same for us, taking the band to another level. 'Obscura' will strike the world in 2020 and we're counting the days to introduce our new album to everyone!"
