RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Guitarist Pushes Back Against COACHELLA Criticism
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello has dismissed criticism leveled at the band online for headlining this year's Coachella festival.
One fan tweeted: "Rage. Just FYI Coachella tix start at around $500 and sky rocket from there. There will be no revolution at this festival, this is a festival for people that can afford it."
The fan added: "Way to play to your values! I mean I'm for you guys reuniting, but please dont try to make it out to be some sort of cause, its not. It's for people to take pictures and videos of being at a 'nostalgic' RATM Reunion."
Another person wrote on Morello's social channels: "Zack De La Rocha previously: Burnin Mansions from Dallas to Malibu, check my resume your residence is residue. Zach de la Rocha now: we're headlining Coachella."
In response, Morello pointed out that the band had already headlined the event twice in the past, writing, "Previously: Rage headlined Coachella 1999. Previously: Rage headlined Coachella in 2007. #YaLateOnYaHate."
Coachella will take place over the weekends of April 10 through April 12 and April 17 through April 19 at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

Video Premiere: STITCHED UP HEART's 'Warrior'
STITCHED UP HEART's official music video for the song "Warrior", directed by Ron Thunderwood and STITCHED UP HEART frontwoman Alecia "Mixi" Demner, can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's forthcoming full-length sophomore album "Darkness", due out on March 13 via Another Century.
"I'm really excited about this video because I was able to come up with almost the entire creative vision for it," said Demner. "From wardrobe, makeup, to cinematography. We wanted to go for a visual aesthetic similar to the movie 300. The director, Ron Underwood, went above and beyond taking every idea I had and making it more than I ever dreamed it to be! I'm very happy with the end result."
"Darkness" will feature previously released tracks such as "Lost" (featuring a guest appearance by Sully Erna of GODSMACK), "Bones", "Darkness", "Warrior", "Problems", "Crooked Halo", "Dead Roses" and "This Skin". The upcoming full-length album was produced by FROM FIRST TO LAST singer/guitarist Matt Good (producer of ASKING ALEXANDRIA and HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD).
Fans can grab "Darkness" on CD and vinyl along with merchandise bundles exclusively at CenturyMedia.store, including a "Darkness" t-shirt, logo pullover hoodie, logo beanie, and signed "Darkness" lithograph posters (limited to 200).
Demner told Live Metal about STITCHED UP HEART's decision to release one new song every few weeks until "Darkness" arrives: "The way that music is these days, you give people an album, and then they play that album for a month, and then they're done and they've moved on to the next whatever's new. But if you give them the whole album, you've spent, 30, 60, 100 grand — however much the producer is, however much everybody negotiated the price, blah blah blah; it costs a lot of money. You give them everything you've got, and you're, like, 'All right, well, I've got nothing new for a while.' I figured — and the powers that be had brought this to my attention — let's do a song at a time and see what happens and keep things going and moving along."
She continued: "Not too many rock bands have really tried that. I believe that music will start going into that, where people release smaller segments or just one song at a time, because the way people’s attention span is. You give people a whole album, and then it's done and moved on. Now, we still have a whole album. If we had released it already, then you guys would already have it and that's it. But this also is cool because it separates every song that we release individually. They all get their own lyric video, instead of that one song on the album that you all forget about. They all get their own moment."
STITCHED UP HEART recently completed a North American tour with STEEL PANTHER. | +1

MÖTLEY CRÜE's VINCE NEIL Photographed In Tennessee Church For Christmas
MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil was photographed in a Tennessee church last week.
On Christmas day (December 25), Mike Wolfe, star of the long-running, treasure-hunting History Channel series "American Pickers", took to his Instagram to post a photo of him and his daughter sitting next to Neil (see below) while they apparently attended religious services at a local church, along with the following caption: "Christmas miracles do happen!!!! I got @thevinceneil to come to church"
In a 2010 interview with Classic Rock magazine, Neil was asked if he thinks there is a god. He responded: "I don't believe in religion, but I'll see Skylar again," referring to his four-year-old daughter, who died in 1995 after a battle with cancer. "I've seen her since she passed away. I know that she is somewhere else."
Pressed about whether he has a grasp on the meaning of life, Vince said: "It's about enjoying the moment, because nothing lasts forever, but it's also about giving something back."
Neil, along with the rest of MÖTLEY CRÜE, is preparing to hit the road next summer as part of "The Stadium Tour" with DEF LEPPARD, POISON and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS. The trek will kick off on June 21 in San Antonio, Texas and will include newly announced gigs in Kansas City, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Nashville, Cincinnati and Cleveland. The tour marks CRÜE's first live dates since wrapping its 2014/2015 farewell run. The band toured with POISON back in 2011 and DEF LEPPARD teamed up with POISON for a string of road dates in 2017 — but the upcoming jaunt marks the first time all four acts have hit the road together for an extended tour.
MÖTLEY CRÜE's longtime manager Allen Kovac recently addressed criticism of Neil for his supposed diminished singing ability and weight gain and the health status of guitarist Mick Mars, who has been dealing with a chronic form of arthritis that led him to undergo a hip replacement.
"Some of them are working with a trainer, some of them are working with a nutritionist to make themselves the best they can be," Kovac told Fox Business. "The greatest insecurity for an artist is: Is anyone going to care about my music? Is anyone going to buy a ticket? We were in November when the discussions were happening, and these guys were already into regimens of how they get ready for a tour."
Speaking specifically about Neil, Kovac said: "Let's see what Vince sings like and looks like when the tour goes out."

ALICE COOPER - "If Anybody That Is A Writer Or A Performer Thinks They Have Written Their Best Songs, They Should Probably Quit"
Tone Deaf recently caught up with shock rock legend Alice Cooper in anticipation of his upcoming Australian tour. Following is an excerpt from the interview.
TD: 2019 marked 50 years since the release of Pretties For You. Have you taken the time to reflect on that album at all, or are you more focused on what the future holds?
Alice Cooper: "You know, what’s kind of interesting about Pretties For You is that it was reviewed as a tragic waste of plastic… it was reviewed as being the worst album ever. Now, it’s being reviewed as art, so now it’s got this thing where it was way ahead of its time. We didn’t get it back then, now we get it. It’s sort of in the same category as Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa, which, that’s what I thought it was then. But, I think that later on we got a little bit more radio with Love It To Death, and Killer, and School’s Out, and those albums. But those early albums were pretty interesting albums."
TD: Despite that, how do you look at where you were as a performer and musician back then compared to where you are now?
Alice Cooper: "I think that we were more adventurous back then. I think that when you become a better song writer and when you really start thinking, “how does this really sound?”
We all compare ourselves to The Beatles. Everybody wants to write like The Beatles because they were the best song writers of all time, so everybody from Ozzy (Osbourne) to me to Aerosmith, everybody, we’re influenced by The Beatles. We all try to write something in that vein, and then we put our own touch to it. A lot of people ask me, 'When are you going to retire?' I tell them, “I don’t think I’ve written my best songs yet. I don’t think I’ve done my best shows yet.' And, if anybody that is a writer or a performer thinks that they have written their best songs, then they should probably quit. But, I guarantee you that Bob Dylan does not think he’s written his best song yet."
Read the complete interview here.
Alice Cooper is among the first wave of performers announced for the 2020 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute concert, honouring Aerosmith. The annual tribute concert takes place January 24 in Los Angeles.
Back in October 2019, Aerosmith made a surprise announcement onstage during their Park MGM Las Vegas residency, Aerosmith: Deuces Are Wild, revealing the big news that they will be honored as this year's MusiCares' Person Of The Year. The four-time Grammy-winning group is being recognized for their considerable philanthropic efforts over five decades and undeniable impact on American music history. Through the years, Aerosmith have shown support for a number of charities around the world, including Steven Tyler’s Janie’s Fund.
The MusiCares Person Of The Year tribute - celebrating its 30th anniversary - is one of the most prestigious events held during Grammy Week. Proceeds from the event provide essential support for MusiCares and its vital safety net of health and human services programs, ensuring music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.
The Person of the Year gala will begin with a reception and silent auction offering an exclusive and unparalleled selection of luxury items, VIP experiences and one-of-a-kind celebrity memorabilia for bidding guests. The reception, along with a silent auction sponsored by Delta Air Lines - the official airline of Person Of The Year - will be followed by a gala dinner sponsored by AEG, tribute concert featuring renowned musicians and other artists, and the award presentation.
Grammy Week culminates with the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 26, 2020. The telecast will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network at 8 PM, ET/5 PM, PT.

CODE ORANGE To Release 'Underneath' Album In March
Grammy-nominated band CODE ORANGE has announced details of its new LP, "Underneath", which will be released on March 13 via Roadrunner Records. The official Max Moore-directed music video for the album's title track, offering a glimpse into the reconfigured and urgent compositions of a band at their most ambitious, can be seen below.
CODE ORANGE's Jami Morgan detailed the band's new LP: "'Underneath' is about facing the duality in ourselves as individuals and as a society in an overcrowded, overexposed, all-consuming digital nirvana. Everyone has a voice and no one's seems to matter… plummet down the rabbit hole of your deepest fears, anxieties and regrets to confront the monster that has been building underneath."
"Underneath" finds CODE ORANGE once again confounding expectations, piling element on element, and towering towards the sky. Rattling drum loops give way to bursts of rage as "Underneath" transforms into something colossal, daring, and resilient, setting the tone for one of the year’s most exhilarating heavy records.
"Underneath" is available today for pre-order with bundles and four limited edition vinyl colorways, each featuring a gatefold jacket with a lenticular cover, also available. Produced by Morgan and Nick Raskulinecz with co-producer Will Yip, "Underneath" features additional programming from Chris Vrenna, and was mixed by Yip and CODE ORANGE's own Eric "Shade" Balderose.
In 2017, CODE ORANGE flipped the heavy music world on its head with their breakthrough album "Forever", a collection that masterfully mixed hardcore aggression with urgent industrial textures, earning the band a breakthrough grammy nomination and top placement on several "Best of 2017" lists, including Rolling Stone's "20 Best Metal Albums of 2017", Revolver's "20 Best Albums of 2017" and The Independent's "Top 20 Rock & Metal Albums of 2017."
This past summer, CODE ORANGE made headlines in the professional wrestling world with the release of "Let Me In", their official entrance theme for WWE superstar "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt. CODE ORANGE previously featured at WWE's NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III performing a rendition of wrestler Aleister Black's entrance theme alongside Incendiary's Brendan Garrone. "Let Me In" followed CODE ORANGE's 2018 release of "The Hurt Will Go On", a digital EP featuring "3 Knives" and "The Hunt" featuring Corey Taylor, as well as "The Hurt Will Go On" (Shade Remix), an official remix of CODE ORANGE's "Hurt Goes On" helmed by the band’s guitarist and vocalist Shade. More recently, CODE ORANGE has collaborated with a wide array of artists, co-producing Injury Reserve's "HPNGC" featuring JPEGMAFIA, as well as serving up a pair of remixes for alt-J's "Hit Me Like That Snare" and "Adeline".
Comprised of Jami Morgan (drums / vocals), Eric "Shade" Balderose (guitar / electronics / vocals), Reba Meyers (guitar / vocals), Dominic Landolina (guitar) and Joe Goldman (bass), CODE ORANGE is set to perform at an array of festivals this spring, including the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 10 and April 17 and Columbus, Ohio's Sonic Temple festival on May 15. Additional tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

RUSH Drummer NEIL PEART Dead At 67
RUSH drummer Neil Peart has died at the age of 67. He passed away on Tuesday in Santa Monica, California after having been diagnosed with brain cancer, according to a statement issued Friday by family spokesperson Elliot Mintz.
His death was confirmed by Meg Symsyk, a media spokesperson for the Canadian progressive rock trio.
A statement posted on the band's official Twitter page said: "It is with broken hearts and the deepest sadness that we must share the terrible news that on Tuesday our friend, soul brother and bandmate of over 45 years, Neil, has lost his incredibly brave three and a half year battle with brain cancer..."
The statement went on to ask for privacy for Peart's family "from friends, fans, and media alike" and requested that mourners make a donation in Peart's name to a cancer research group or charity of their choice."
"Rest in peace brother," the band's statement concluded.
RUSH had been completely inactive since completing its "R40 Live" tour four years ago. Peart previously said that playing concerts at his age caused too much painful wear and tear on his body and he'd rather call it quits before the performances start declining in quality.
His survivors include his wife Carrie and daughter Olivia.
He was also the author of numerous books, including a number of memoirs exploring his life and travels.
Guitarist Alex Lifeson and bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee have repeatedly said that RUSH will never do a show unless all three musicians agree to take part. They haven't performed as RUSH without Peart since he joined the band in 1974.
For first six years of RUSH's existence, John Rutsey was behind the kit and he played on the band's self-titled debut LP.
In 1997, Peart and his bandmates became the first rock musicians to be inducted into the Order of Canada.
They were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013.

Watch MY DYING BRIDE's Music Video For 'Your Broken Shore'
British doom metal veterans MY DYING BRIDE will release their new studio album, "The Ghost Of Orion", on March 6 via Nuclear Blast.
The new MY DYING BRIDE record features a more accessible style compared to some of the band's past, highly technical releases. "The Ghost Of Orion" features compositions not only of epic proportions but of intimate quality too, from death metal vocals to the pained cries of a vocalist in longing. The LP will raise and fall like the beautiful landscape of Yorkshire in which it was recorded.
With layer upon layer of guitars both heavy and harmonic, Andrew Craighan has created a rich soundscape that is beautifully epic, enhanced with violins and keys from Shaun MacGowan along with the ominous murmur of cello from acclaimed cellist Jo Quail. And speaking of guest artists, the wondrous voice of Lindy-Fay Hella (WARDRUNA) adds an ethereal beauty to the album. Adding his particular style of drumming this time round is Jeff Singer, whose percussion exploits have elevated the band's rhythm section to another level aided by the effortlessly stylish Lena Abe on bass guitar. Aaron Stainthorpe delivers a compelling and often disturbing performance with his own particular style of vocals offering sincere eulogies along with the visceral carnage of a soul in pain, with poetic lyrics of a quality not often seen in this genre.
The official music video for the first single from "The Ghost Of Orion", a song called "Your Broken Shore", can be seen below.
Stainthorpe stated about "Your Broken Shore": "The first song from MY DYING BRIDE for five years comes laced with passion, power and their unyielding desire to create the most thoughtful and heavy music possible. 'Your Broken Shore' is recognizably theirs despite an evolution spanning 30 years, it’s new and fresh but with unmistakable provenance and production surpassing anything they have previously released. This track represents just a taster of things to come as the new LP 'The Ghost Of Orion' is upon the horizon containing seven further compositions of deliciously crushing gothic doom/death metal."
The cover artwork for "The Ghost Of Orion" was created by artist Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, ICED EARTH, SODOM).

Listen To Title Track Of APOCALYPTICA's New Album, 'Cell-0'
Finnish cello rock band APOCALYPTICA has released "Cell-0", the title track of the group's upcoming studio album, due out January 10 via Silver Lining Music.
In support of the release of "Cell-0", APOCALYPTICA — cellists Eicca Toppinen, Perttu Kivilaakso and Paavo Lötjönen, and drummer Mikko Sirén — will be the special guests for SABATON on a 15-country, 23-date European tour that begins on January 17 in Zurich, Switzerland.
"We will be planning the full 'Cell-0' tour to be at the next level in terms of how we frame our performance," said Toppinen, "because we don't know any other way."
The recording of "Cell-0" followed a four-year break between albums that gave the band a fresh perspective and affected the way they approached the new music. The album sees them return to their roots and is the quartet's first instrumental album in 17 years, finding APOCALYPTICA challenging themselves to discover new flavours and colors in their respective instruments.
"It is tough to express without lyrics, but in 'Cell-0', we found particles of our universe previously unknown to us," they explained. "Millions of notes combine to create music just as millions of cells combine to create life, and when you visualize the whole thing, similar patterns appear."
Produced by APOCALYPTICA, mixed by Andrew Scheps (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, LANA DEL REY, METALLICA, BLACK SABBATH), and recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, "Cell-0" sees the band soaring into ethereal space on "Ashes Of The Modern World", while diving head-first into aggressive thrash cello-riffery during "En Route To Mayhem".
Rather than put strategic attention on aspects like writing singles, the band approached "Cell-0" as a fully formed piece of art, connecting the right details and hues with the energy of being a real cello-metal band. By pushing themselves to find other places and levels in their music, APOCALYPTICA opened up to some seemingly unorthodox methods and emotions while traveling through that creative process.
"These new songs have so many layers and are so complex, and it's not always easy to point exactly what they are about," Toppinen expressed. "But I think that's also the beauty of instrumental music, that the listener always can feel free to experience the same songs in very, very different ways. It's also one reason why we don't want to explain the songs before they're experienced."

BLACK MIRRORS Release Unplugged Single And Video “Günther Kimmich”
“Is craving for heavenly delights”
Belgian rockers, Black Mirrors, have released their high voltage unplugged version of “Günther Kimmich”, along with a music video, via Napalm Records.
Since the release of their debut album, Look Into The Black Mirror, in September 2018, the band has played over 120 shows in 16 European countries, and on top of that, the band won the prestigious D6cibels Music Award in the category “Rock & Alternative”. Following these exceptional months, it is no surprise that in addition, the famous Eurosonic showcase festival in Groningen sent a special invitation. Now, Black Mirrors have revealed a new facet.
The original first single from their hypnotizing debut is now available in its purest form - an intimate acoustic version that will send shivers down your spine. The band offers the perfect equilibrium between modern blues rock and a glimmer of swampy tinted stoner rock.
The black and white audiovisual creates a rich atmosphere and draws you right into their heavenly delights: an emotional perception accompanied by the captivating power of Marcella’s vocals.
Marcella (singer) & Pierre (guitarist) on the new video and unplugged song: “As kids of the 90's, we grew up with bands like Nirvana and Alice In Chains playing their songs unplugged. We loved to see how faster rock songs changed into something slow with a very intense and deeper feel to it. With ‘Günther Kimmich Unplugged’ we turned a fast, straightforward rock song with heavy riffs into something very intimate and melodic. We often make acoustic versions of our own songs during breaks in between tours and we’re happy to share it with our fans now!”

DAVID LEE ROTH Kicks Off Las Vegas Residency: Setlist, Video
VAN HALEN vocalist David Lee Roth kicked off his Las Vegas residency Wednesday night (January 8) with a 15-song set that included 10 VAN HALEN classics and five songs from his solo career.
Backing the 65-year-old singer at the House Of Blues were lead guitarist Al Estrada from the VAN HALEN tribute band ERUPTION, rhythm guitarist Frankie Lindri, bassist Ryan Wheeler, keyboardist Danny Wagner and drummer Mike Mussleman.
The setlist was as follows:
01. You Really Got Me (KINKS cover)
02. Big Train
03. Unchained
04. Just Like Paradise
05. Atomic Punk
06. Dance The Night Away
07. Mean Street
08. California Girls (BEACH BOYS cover)
09. Tobacco Road (JOHN D. LOUDERMILK cover)
10. Jamie's Cryin'
11. Beautiful Girls
12. Panama
13. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
14. Just A Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody ( IRVING CAESAR, LEONELLO CASUCCI / ROGER GRAHAM, SPENCER WILLIAMS covers)
15. Jump
In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Roth described his Vegas residency in the following way: "It is classic rock delivered in a way that you have yet to ever see. Most rock bands practice up the rhythm section and then add on those vocals like sprinkles. We started opposite here. What we're bringing is a symphonic sound that is clearly different.
"When you hear what we're bringing," he continued, "particularly in a spectacularly tight venue like you can find in Vegas — it's nice and tight, you can see everybody's faces, you can see eyebrows. I've said that dogs are more popular than cats because they have eyebrows. You can tell what the dog is thinking. Kitty cats, they're like strippers: You can't tell what they're thinking."
David went on to say that he spent quite a bit of time putting together his current Vegas production.
"Most bands spend six weeks, minus auditions, to bring you a superb show. I started two years ago," he explained. "I bring two guitars, sometimes three, and now it picks up the way you first heard it inside that car, the way you first heard it in those great big ugly Koss headphones your brother lent to ya.
"What we bring here is a whole sensibility of storytelling and toasting and dedications," he added. "I've already had one request, fella wants to propose on stage, so we'll prepare a gospel moment, clearly. We'll have to."
Roth will play eight more Vegas shows in January and March, in addition to performing as the opening act for the upcoming North American legs of KISS's "End Of The Road" farewell tour starting on Februry 1 in Manchester, New Hampshire. | +1

Listen To New STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Song 'Three Wishes' From 'Perdida' Acoustic Album
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will release their first-ever acoustic album, titled "Perdida", on February 10. The band recorded the disc at drummer Eric Kretz's Bomb Shelter Studios. STP utilized a variety of instruments that haven't been associated with the group in the past, including flute, alto saxophone, guitarrón, viola, cello and vintage keyboards. STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will also launch an acoustic tour next month.
The second single from "Perdida", a song called "Three Wishes", can be streamed below.
"You have to live it to write it," says guitarist Dean DeLeo. "And this record is a reflection of where we've been recently."
Bassist Robert DeLeo says "Perdida" (Spanish for 'loss') shows how music has helped them process grief, search for meaning and, ultimately, create something beautiful from the pain. "When I've gone through things in my life, I've found that sitting down and having an honest conversation with my guitar is the best therapy."
"Recording an acoustic album like 'Perdida' is something the band has wanted to do for many years," says drummer Eric Kretz. "We performed on 'MTV Unplugged' in 1993, and we usually play acoustic mini-sets on tour, so when Robert and Dean started playing their new songs for us during our tour last year, we knew right away they would be perfect for an acoustic album."
Writing lyrics for an introspective album like "Perdida" meant exposing himself like never before, says singer Jeff Gutt, who joined the band in 2017. "It's an emotionally honest album and I needed to approach it that way for these songs to resonate. I had to let myself be as vulnerable writing the lyrics as Dean and Robert were writing the music."
To record "Perdida", the quartet assembled at Kretz's Bomb Shelter Studios in February 2019. The key to making the album, Dean explains, was finding a way to say more with less. "Everything you hear serves a purpose, from the space in the arrangements to the different instruments. We only added things that served the songs."
As a result, there are instruments on "Perdida" that you don't normally hear on an STP record, like flute ("I Didn't Know The Time") alto saxophone ("Years") guitarrón ("Miles Away") and enough vintage keyboards to make Rick Wakeman jealous. "We've done similar things before — like the trumpet solo on 'Adhesive' from 'Tiny Music' — but never on such a large scale," Robert says. "Working with other musicians on this album was such a joy because it gave us a rare opportunity to hear our songs through someone else's ears."
That approach shines on the title track, where a nylon-string guitar takes the lead as keyboard, violin, viola and cello ebb and flow behind Gutt's soaring vocal on the chorus: "Oh perdida come and go/Stay with me tonight/But in the morning please be gone."
"She's My Queen" is another highpoint on the band's sonic adventure. Built around an Indian drone and carried along by a gently pulsing beat, the song casts a hypnotic spell that's punctuated by background singers, flute and Marxophone — a special kind of hammered dulcimer from the 1920s.
The songs that open and close "Perdida" — "Fare Thee Well" and "Sunburst", respectively — are fitting bookends, Gutt says. "They really capture the emotional journey that takes place on this album. It starts with saying goodbye on 'Fare Thee Well' and ends with a new beginning on 'Sunburst'. It's a melancholy record, but it ends on a hopeful note."
As it happens, those two tracks also spotlight facets of the DeLeo brothers' distinctive songwriting voices. "Fare Thee Well" by Robert pulls you in from the first strum of the guitar and has you singing along after one listen. In Dean's "Sunburst", the melody unfolds gradually, rising and falling multiple times before building to a cathartic guitar-fueled crescendo.
"Perdida" track listing
01. Fare Thee Well
02. Three Wishes
03. Perdida
04. I Didn't Know The Time
05. Years
06. She's My Queen
07. Miles Away
08. You Found Yourself While Losing Your Heart
09. I Once Sat At Your Table
10. Sunburst
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will also launch an acoustic tour starting on February 5 in Vancouver.
"Some songs are obvious candidates for an acoustic performance," Dean says. "What will be really interesting are the unexpected choices, where we reimagine a familiar song and present in a totally different light."
Kretz says the band is looking forward to not only performing the new songs, but also pulling songs from previous albums into the setlist. "We'll finally get a chance to play songs from our catalog that we've never played live, or in some cases, haven't played live in more than 20 years."
"We've talked about doing this kind of tour for years, and now it's finally happening," Robert explains. "We're excited because it's not only a chance for us to celebrate our new album in a special way, but also everything that's brought us to this moment."

SABATON History Channel Uploads "Light In The Black" - United Nations Peacekeeping; Video
The Sabaton History Channel has released Episode 049 - "Union" - "Light In The Black" - United Nations.
A message states: "The United Nations were created to avoid any future human suffering and all-out conflict. Numerous peacekeeping missions had the goal to deescalate and protect the innocent. However, the success and usefulness of the UN is still quite ambiguous. The Sabaton song 'Light In The Black' is about the UN Peacekeeping missions and we tell you about the history."
Sabaton recently released an official music video for "Seven Pillars Of Wisdom", taken from their latest album, The Great War. The video was shot by Tunisian filmmaker Mehdi Jouni in the Sahara desert and features Swedish-American actor Indy Neidell, who also hosts the Sabaton History Channel. Check it out below.

DEATHWHITE Streaming New Song "Plague Of Virtue"
Enigmatic dark metal outfit, Deathwhite, will be releasing their sophomore effort, Grave Image, on January 31 via Season Of Mist. Listen to the track "Plague Of Virtue" below.
The band comments: “We have long revered Katatonia’s Discouraged Ones album. It is of immense influence and one of the reasons for Deathwhite’s formation. And while we are massively fond of the album, we have resisted completely appropriating it for our own measures. 'Plague Of Virtue', though, is one of the few times we have touched upon that particular sound, notably with the song’s opening riff. It is our not-so-subtle nod to a band we so dearly admire. Thematically, the song explores the depths in which the self-appointed ‘virtuous’ will go to in order to exploit and deceive. This is especially relevant in a day and age where the most amoral of individuals find legion among those where hypocrisy and self-righteousness is the modus operandi.”
Pre-order the album here.

THE UNDERGROUND THIEVES Release "5.0.1." Live At The Fillmore; Video
The Underground Thieves, the Philadelphia-based band led by artist/songwriter/producer Nick Perri, have unveiled a video for their fan- favorite live song, “5.0.1.”. The hypnotic performance, featuring Perri on lead guitar, was filmed during the band’s sold out shows in December supporting The Struts at the Fillmore Philadelphia, and showcases the group’s electrifying stage presence and deep musical abilities.
“I wanted to take our live show up a notch and give the audience something unexpected,” said Perri, who delivers an intense and emotional guitar solo. “‘5.0.1.’ grows and changes a little every night. Even though we have musical cues, it’s largely improvised and really keeps us on our toes.”
The performance features Brian Weaver on bass; Justin DiFebbo on Hammond organ and synthesizer; and Zil Fessler on drums. The video was co-produced by Ari Halbkram in collaboration with Derek Brad, Brynn Bailey and Steven Hirsch. Watch below:

BLAZE OF PERDITION Streaming New Single "With Madman's Faith"
On February 14th, Blaze Of Perdition will release their new album, The Harrowing Of Hearts, via Metal Blade Records. Listen to the new single, "With Madman's Faith", below:
The Harrowing Of Hearts can be pre-ordered here in the following formats:

- blue / red swirl vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 100 copies)
- clear grey-brown marbled w/ golden glitter (EU exclusive - limited to 100 copies)
* exclusive bundles with shirts, plus digital options are also available
Existing at the forefront of the Polish black metal movement, Blaze Of Perdition return with their fifth full-length, The Harrowing Of Hearts - their most urgent, refined, dynamic and accomplished work to date. Richly layered, it is also their most textured release, and they dive ever deeper into the themes they have been exploring since dropping their debut full-length in 2010, Towards The Blaze Of Perdition.
"I would say the new record is to 2017's Conscious Darkness what [2011's] The Hierophant was for Towards The Blaze Of Perdition - a continuation of the initial idea, but in more energetic and catchy form. Perhaps more approachable and listener-friendly, but it's not up to me to decide," states vocalist Sonneillon. "Although some gothic rock influences could be heard on Conscious Darkness, here we took them out of the shadows and let them shine in the spotlight. It's also our most collectively written effort so far, with every band member throwing something meaningful to the whole."
Working with the same producer they've been teaming with since 2013 and with artwork designed by Izabela Grabda, every aspect of The Harrowing Of Hearts has come together as intended, and with Metal Blade now behind them, the band are now ready to work their asses off to spread their name ever further. It's also safe to say the members of Blaze Of Perdition don't feel like they have anything to prove going into 2020.
"To me, art isn't about proving anything to anyone, it's about the expression of whatever one wants to express and channeling emotions and/or abstract concepts into something perceptible, something that might turn out to be just as precious for others. Focusing on proving anything to anyone usually doesn't do any good for artistic endeavours."
The Harrowing Of Hearts tracklisting:
"Suffering Made Bliss"
"With Madman's Faith"
"Transmutation Of Sins"
"Królestwo Niebieskie"
"What Christ Has Kept Apart"
"The Great Seducer"
"Moonchild"

Listen To LAMB OF GOD Guitarist MARK MORTON's 'All I Had To Lose' Feat. MARK MORALES
LAMB OF GOD guitarist Mark Morton returns in 2020 with his second solo offering, titled "Ether", a primarily acoustic five-song EP scheduled for release on January 17 via Rise Records/BMG.
The first single from "Ether", "All I Had To Lose", featuring Mark Morales, can be streamed below.
As with Morton's solo debut, "Anesthetic", released last year, the guitarist enlisted the talents of various musicians and vocalists to bring his songs to life. "Ether" features appearances by Lzzy Hale (HALESTORM), Howard Jones (KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, LIGHT THE TORCH), John Carbone (MOON TOOTH) and Mark Morales (SONS OF TEXAS), who is also a member of Morton's live band. The EP is made up of three original songs and two covers that once again showcase Morton's diversity as a musician.
Says Morton: "I'm thrilled to announce the upcoming release of my new five-song EP 'Ether' on Rise Records! Once again, I've had the great pleasure of working with some amazingly talented artists and friends to assemble this collection of tunes, all of which feature a strong acoustic guitar component. Inspired by the acoustic sets I had the opportunity to perform last spring and summer in support of 'Anesthetic', I began writing some new songs to reflect that more mellow vibe. I'm stoked with the results and I can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been putting together. I'll be debuting these tunes on my upcoming U.K. acoustic tour, so you can hear them live before they're released anywhere else.
"I continue to be honored to have the chance to work with so many incredibly talented people and I remain beyond grateful to the fans that have come along with me and supported these projects. Thanks so much everyone!"
"Ether" track listing:
01. All I Had To Lose (featuring Mark Morales)
02. The Fight (featuring John Carbone)
03. She Talks To Angels (featuring Lzzy Hale)
04. Love My Enemy (featuring Howard Jones)
05. Black (featuring Mark Morales)
"Ether" was produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA, TRIVIUM).
Following his first U.K. acoustic performance at the Download festival last year, Morton will return for a handful of special and intimate acoustic shows in January.
Morton comments: "We had such an amazing time with the acoustic set at Download and I'm really looking forward to expanding on that experience with these upcoming shows. Joining me once again will be Mark Morales on vocals, and guitarist extraordinaire Joe Harvatt. I can't wait to make each show extra special for you all with an evening of stories, acoustic versions of many of the songs from 'Anesthetic', and a few covers of some of our favorite tunes. We'll also be debuting some new original material as well! Look forward to seeing you all." | +3

GLENN DANZIG's Collection Of ELVIS PRESLEY Covers To Be Released In April
Glenn Danzig's long-awaited collection of Elvis Presley covers, appropriately titled "Danzig Sings Elvis", is scheduled for an April release.
In 2018, Danzig told Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show that he wanted to play "a few intimate shows" in support of "Danzig Sings Elvis". "Every time I'd have downtime, or if I was working on soundtrack stuff, I would just record another Elvis track or two," he said. "So what started out as an EP, I now have more than enough for a full album; I have extra songs that won't even make it on the record. So I'm really gonna have to sit down and pick the songs that I really want on the record. But it came out really good; I can't wait for everyone to hear it. A lot of people ask me about it all the time when I'm on the road. So it will be nice to get it out and do some of those little intimate shows I was talking about."
Danzig previously covered Presley's "Trouble" on his eponymous band's "Thrall-Demonsweatlive" EP in 1993. He also recorded a version of "Let Yourself Go" for 2015's "Skeletons".
"Elvis is actually kind of how I got into music," Glenn told Rolling Stone in 2015 interview. "When I was a kid, I was cutting school pretending I was sick and I would lie at home watching old movies, and 'Jailhouse Rock' came on with Elvis. I was, like, 'I want to do this. This is great.' And that's how I veered to music."
Regarding how he came to cover "Let Yourself Go", Danzig said: "It's a song that a lot of people may or may not be familiar with, but he actually liked it so much he put it on the ''68 Comeback Special'. It's just a cool song I've always liked. I knew I could do something really cool with it. I didn't want to do the obvious Elvis song, you know? You don't have to highlight an Elvis song, everyone's heard them, this is just probably a lesser known song of his thousands of songs that everybody knows. I like his delivery, his voice. He's not just standing there, he's moving around. I like that. I don't like singers who just stand there. It's boring to me. I like singers who are really getting into it and showing you they're getting into it. I think he has all of that."
DANZIG was formed in 1987 after Glenn's involvement with horror-punks the MISFITS and gothic hard rockers SAMHAIN.
DANZIG's latest album, "Black Laden Crown", came out in May 2017 via Evilive Records/Nuclear Blast Entertainment.

TOMI JOUTSEN Says It Was 'Really Important' For AMORPHIS To Take 'A Musical Risk' On 1999's 'Tuonela' Album
Interview Under Fire spoke with frontman Tomi Joutsen of Finnish melancholic progressive metallers AMORPHIS prior to the band's October 16 concert at Trees in Dallas, Texas. You can watch the entire chat below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On learning more about the meaning behind the band's lyrics that are often inspired by their native Finland:
Tomi: "It's not easy because who is doing the lyrics for us, he [lyricist Pekka Kainulainen] takes always lots of inspiration from all beliefs and stuff like this. Nowadays, the lyrics are not taken straight from stories and stuff like this. It's more like an inspiration. He takes lots of things, of course, from his own personal life and the history of his health. I come from Finland and it's really easy to understand all the themes and all the stories of what he's bringing out. I think for you, for example, it might be a little bit different to follow the lyrics because they are a little bit Finnish, so to speak. I don't know how to describe it."
On why it's important to him that heavy metal music "stays underground":
Tomi: "I'm just a member of the band — I'm not the whole band and that's only my personal opinion — but I think the music, or, underground music, there's a danger, if you know what I mean. [Laughs] The things are not black and white. Of course, there are great bands in the mainstream, also. So it doesn't matter if you have sold one million or just [one album]. It could be great, but when you get to a sort of level, everything starts to be a little bit too… how do you say it? Safe, in a way. And, if you have really lots of albums, you already have your own style and it's really hard to give any surprises to fans because the formula is already done. But I listen to all kinds of music, not only underground music. But, of course, there is more some kind of rebel feeling in the underground."
On 1999's "Tuonela", an album that saw AMORPHIS drift into more progressive and atmospheric rock territory:
Tomi: "I wasn't in the band at that moment, but as a fan, I really loved the first two albums, 'The Karelian Isthmus' and 'Tales [From The Thousand Lakes]'. 'Tuonela' was okay, but I didn't love the progressive style that much, to be honest. [Death metal] that's my stuff. Of course, the later albums are also great. I think they really had to do those albums. They felt that way during that part of their career and they really loved that kind of music. If you're honest, you have to create that kind of music that you really love. It was really a brave thing to do because it would have been really easy just to release albums that sounded like 'Elegy' or something like this, that had this death metal element there. But instead, they did this progressive stuff and really sentimental, sensitive stuff. It was like a red light for some fans, of course. If you look at the whole career [of AMORPHIS], I think it was really important the band took a big risk, a musical risk at that time. Now we can do almost every kind of music. We can do progressive and we can do death metal stuff and everything, and all that still sounds quite natural for us as a band."
AMORPHIS's latest studio album, "Queen Of Time", was released in May 2018 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2015's "Under The Red Cloud" includes the use of real strings, flutes, orchestral arrangements and even choirs. In addition, this is the first time that people are able to hear Kainulainen on the album, as he contributes a speech in Finnish.

WAITING FOR MONDAY Share New Song "Until The Dawn"; Audio
"Until The Dawn", the album opener of Waiting For Monday's upcoming self-titled debut album, is available for streaming below.
Waiting For Monday is a new melodic rock band formed by vocalist Rudy Cardenas and guitarist/singer August Zadra. The band hails from Los Angeles and was brought to the attention of Frontiers by Jeff Scott Soto, with the label moving quickly to sign them based on their outstanding talents.
Musically, you can expect classic chart topping melodies ala Journey, Styx, and Foreigner, but with a decidedly modern approach. And if you are looking for sunny, meaningless lyrics, then you probably best look elsewhere as the band has stories to tell, and not all of them happy.
The band's self-titled debut album will be released on February 14. Pre-order here.
Originally from Venezuela, Rudy Cardenas is an incredible vocal talent. His pipes carried him to the finals on Season 6 of American Idol and he has been heard on TV and movies ranging from Family Guy to Real Steel. For five years, Rudy was the power alto for the multi-award winning vocal group, M-pact, who was named Vocal Group of the Year at the 2005 L.A. Music Awards. More recently, Rudy was the featured vocalist for the Gold-selling Hungarian rock album by Mr. Zsolt.
August Zadra is best known for handling lead guitar and vocal duties in iconic singer Dennis DeYoung's solo band since 2010. Since the age of 15, guitar playing has been a passion that carried August from Fairbanks, Alaska to Hollywood, California, where he attended and graduated from the Guitar Institute of Technology. He has been a regular feature in the Los Angeles music scene for the past 20 years, playing with a variety of bands, and is often sought out as a guitarist/vocalist collaborator for writing and recording projects.
Completing the lineup are Joe Travers (drums), Walter Ino (guitar and keyboards), and Eric Baines (bass).

Dating back to the band's inception in 2002, vocalist/guitarist/bassist/drummer Athenar has always known exactly what he wanted Midnight to be, and over the course of countless demos, EPs, compilations, splits and three full-lengths he has stayed true to his roots. There is no denying that, like its predecessors, Rebirth By Blasphemy is a ruthlessly catchy collection, every song, vicious as they are, wielding the kind of hooks that sink deep and don't let go.
Handling every instrument himself and being quite unfussy when it comes to production typically means that the recording process is a straightforward one for Midnight, and this time was no different. Staying in his home town of Cleveland, he opted to record at Mercenary Studios with the assistance of Noah Buchanan, laying the drums down in a day, the guitars in a little more than that, bass in a few hours, and then tracking the vocals to two or three songs a day. "I think there's really no production value on the album, it's really just get in there, press record and see what happens. Maybe you can tell that the sessions went pretty quickly when you listen to it. There are so-called mistakes, of course, but I wouldn't have it any other way." He also wouldn't have it any other way when it comes to touring this latest collection hard, with a lot of dates with a variety of bands already locked down. "It's the rebirth, it's saying fuck it and getting out there and doing what you're supposed to do, and we're supposed to play music. If people want to damage their ears by listening to it, that's welcomed."

Watch EVANESCENCE's Music Video For Cover Of FLEETWOOD MAC's 'The Chain'
EVANESCENCE has returned with its first new rock recording in eight years, "The Chain (From Gears 5)". The band recorded its signature-rock version of the FLEETWOOD MAC classic following lead singer Amy Lee having lent her vocals to the launch trailer for the Xbox Game Studios' "Gears 5" for Xbox One, Windows 10, and Steam, from the massively popular "Gears Of War" series. The spot aired as part of a multi-million-dollar ad campaign last fall in conjunction with the launch of the game. "Gears 5" was Microsoft's most successful video game launch since Halo 4 in 2012.
"The Chain" is the first release in what is expected to be a very active period for EVANESCENCE. Following their critically acclaimed foray into symphonic music with 2017's "Synthesis" album and world tour, the five-piece has re-emerged by embracing a heavier sound, albeit with their trademark style that has made EVANESCENCE integral in establishing a global, critical mass in rock, and among the most unique artists of the millennium. The band is currently working on new original music, which will start rolling out in 2020 in advance of their next studio album. Stay tuned for more details to come.
Said Lee: "This cover was so fun to make. We love FLEETWOOD MAC and wanted to paint a dark and epic picture with our take on 'The Chain'. The lyrics make me feel the power of standing together against great forces trying to pull us apart, perhaps even from the inside. I really wanted to drive that home in our version, and even made everyone in the band sing by the end of it! We’re beyond excited to share this with our fans and I'm really looking forward to playing it live."
The official music video for "The Chain (From Gears 5)" was directed by P.R. Brown and produced by Steve Lamar and can be seen below.
EVANESCENCE will play at the Download festival in Tokyo in March. After a short break, the group head out on a massive co-headline tour of Europe with WITHIN TEMPTATION. The new batch of dates kicks off on April 4 in Brussels, Belgium and concludes in Birmingham, U.K. on May 1. EVANESCENCE then returns to the U.S. for a headline show at The Fillmore in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 14. All tickets are on sale now and can be purchased on the band’s official web site.
"Synthesis" sold 34,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release to land at position No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. Of that sum, 30,000 were in traditional album sales. EVANESCENCE's 2011 self-titled release debuted at No. 1. "Synthesis" was the group's fourth top 10 effort, following "Evanescence", "The Open Door" (No. 1 in 2006) and "Fallen" (No. 3, 2003).
In 2018, Lee told the 93.3 WMMR Rocks! radio station that she wasn't opposed to the idea of releasing singles and EPs instead of full-length albums, especially as streaming services like Spotify continue to alter the way people consume music.
"I just think it's cool to be able to have this freedom to commit to less and do more," she said. "I'm totally open to doing a few songs instead of an album here and there, and see what happens."

SHAKRA Debut Official Music Video For "Too Much Is Not Enough"
Swiss hard rockers, Shakra, have released a video for "Too Much Is Not Enough", a track from their upcoming album, Mad World, to be released on February 28 via AFM Records. Watch the clip below, and pre-order the album here.
For a quarter of a century, Shakra has been part of the music circus. Only someone who's been in a band before, knows how fragile and exhausting this kind of social fabric is. 25 years is a very long time and only a few acts can make this distance. Shakra made it and it doesn't look like they'll give up sometime soon. Quite the contrary.
Guitarist, Thom Blunier, points out: "I'm extremely proud and thankful, that this band is stil existing after 25 years of rock 'n' roll. Those of you who have a clue the difficulties of existing as a band know, how precious and exceptional this is. I am ready for the next 25 years!"
Tracklisting:
"Fireline
"Too Much Is Not Enough"
"A Roll Of The Dice"
"Mad World"
"When He Comes Around"
"Thousand Kings"
"I Still Rock"
"Fake News"
"When It All Falls Down"
"Turn The Light On"
"Son Of Fire"
"New Tomorrow"

GLENN DANZIG's 'Verotika' To Receive Blu-Ray/DVD Release In February
Glenn Danzig's feature film directorial debut, "Verotika", will be released as a three-disc Blu-ray/DVD set on February 25. According to the product's Amazon listing, the Cleopatra release will include both Blu-ray and DVD discs, along with a third disc featuring the anthology film's soundtrack.
When it debuted at the Cinepocalypse festival in Chicago last year, "Verotika" was compared by some reviewers to Tommy Wiseau's "The Room", the so-bad-it's-amazing drama which is considered one of the worst movies ever made.
"If you do something you love, it's difficult," Danzig said at Cinepocalypse. "On a movie set, there are tons of problems that happen that you would never foresee. So, you have to hit the ground running… Right from the start, it was very clear we're not making a Hollywood movie. A lot of my influences and the different films I like, especially European films, you can see them in here, and, lighting, colors, it's much different from a movie you will see nowadays."
"Verotika", which as originally supposed to come out on VOD this past Halloween, stars Ashley Wisdom, Scotch Hopkins, Alice Haig, Kayden Kross, Natalia Borowsky, Rachel Alig and Sean Kanan. The film also features a cameo appearance from Caroline Williams of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" fame.
As previously reported, Danzig has set "Death Rider In The House Of Vampires" as the title of his next movie. Acording to the film's official entry on IMDB, it was written and directed by Danzig, with Glenn also acting as the executive producer, along with James Cullen Bresack. The cinematography is by Danzig and Pedja Radenkovic. The film stars Devon Sawa, Danny Trejo, Julian Sands and Kim Director, among others. | 0

BLACK STAR RIDERS And THIN LIZZY Frontman RICKY WARWICK Released From Hospital
Ricky Warwick has been released from hospital, just days after he was diagnosed with pleurisy, a condition in which the linings of the lungs become inflamed.
The BLACK STAR RIDERS and THIN LIZZY frontman issued an update on his health a little over a week after undergoing a "small procedure" at the Cedars-Sinai hospital in West Hollywood, California.
Earlier today, Warwick posted a picture of several books lying on a bed, and included the following caption: "I'm home !!! Gonna take a couple of weeks to fully get over the illness so I intend to get stuck into these.. I can't thank you all enough for your messages of support it really helped to keep my spirits up and make me smile more than you know. Love you all, Ricky xx #homesweethome #lovetoread #beingsicksucks #blackstarridersfans #goodfriendsgoodlife"
In addition to fronting THIN LIZZY and BLACK STAR RIDERS, Warwick was the guitarist and vocalist for THE ALMIGHTY, and performs regularly as a solo acoustic act.
Born in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland, Ricky now calls Los Angeles home — he's lived there for more than 15 years. Ricky has four kids — his youngest is 11 and his oldest is 22.
Last year, Warwick signed a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast for his solo album releases. His new solo offering, "When Life Was Fast And Hard", is due in 2020.
BLACK STAR RIDERS' fourth studio album "Another State Of Grace", came out in September via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2017's "Heavy Fire" was recorded in February 2019 at Sphere Studios in Burbank, California with producer Jay Ruston (STONE SOUR, ANTHRAX, URIAH HEEP). | 0

STEEL PANTHER Releases NSFW Career Retrospective Video For 'Heavy Metal Rules'
California glam metal jokesters STEEL PANTHER have released a NSFW video for the title track of their latest album, "Heavy Metal Rules". The clip, directed by Frankie Nasso, picks up right where the video for "Death To All But Metal" left off. The video then follows the band on the road to stardom from small clubs to some of the largest festivals in the world filled with copious amounts of beauties, blow, and boobs.
"Heavy Metal Rules" was released last September. The disc, which is described in a press release as a "heavy metal version of a self-help manual and ultimate party album combined," was once again produced by Jay Ruston, who collaborated with the band on all of its previous recordings, including 2017's "Lower The Bar".
STEEL PANTHER specializes in imitating and exaggerating the less flattering aspects of 1980s hair metal, with unrepentantly crude, non-PC sexual content as a favorite lyrical theme.
The group's music has been described as "VAN HALEN meets MÖTLEY CRÜE meets RATT meets 'Wayne's World', complete with operatic shrieks, misogyny, shredding guitar solos and libidinal overdrive."
Twelve years ago, STEEL PANTHER changed its name from METAL SKOOL to its current moniker and shifted the focus of its act from '80s metal covers to originals.
