ACHERON – Kenyon Records Announces Definitive Reissue Of Rites Of The Black Mass
Kenyon Records unveils the definitive edition of Rites Of The Black Mass, the cult 1992 debut from Satanic death metal pioneers Acheron. Available September 12, 2025, this fully remastered and expanded release marks the first time the original album and its foundational 1991 demo have been paired together — with full support and participation from all three original members: Vincent Crowley, Pete Slate, and Jim Strauss.
Originally recorded at Morrisound Studios under the guidance of legendary producer Scott Burns, Rites Of The Black Mass fused brutal musicianship with authentic Satanic philosophy. Its ritualistic structure — with lyrics written in collaboration with Peter H. Gilmore (now High Priest of the Church of Satan) — made it the first metal album to truly set a Black Mass to music.
“Peter Gilmore and I had the idea of doing an actual Black Mass set to music so the lyrics would be authentic and genuine. Getting the unholy blessings from the Black Pope Anton LaVey, we set forth to manifest our goal into a reality.” — Vincent Crowley, Acheron

Originally released by Turbo Music in 1992, Rites Of The Black Mass has gone on to achieve cult status in the underground, widely regarded as a foundational work in the blackened death metal genre. But behind its legend lies a deeper story — one of spiritual rebellion, artistic conviction, and underground perseverance.
“After being raised in a Christian household and continuously preached to as a child by the church, I never would have thought my anti-religious anger would manifest into a Satanic metal reality the way it did.” — Vincent Crowley, Acheron
To mark this monumental reissue, Acheron also unveils their first official music video for the fan-favorite track “Thou Art Lord.” Created in partnership with Luiz Arruda at Audio Power Studios, the video offers a visual manifestation of the song’s unholy power and stands as a historic moment in the band’s legacy.
