CRADLE OF FILTH Frontman DANI FILTH Versus God In Jesus Is A Cunt Shirt Controversy - "It Worked Out Okay For You; We Kept Your Name Alive"

New Zealand-based Stuff.com has picked up a thread launched in June regarding the enduring legacy of Cradle Of Filth's infamous "Jesus Is A Cunt" shirt, which is celebrating its 22nd birthday this year. An excerpt from their interview with frontman Dani Filth is available below:

"The premise behind the shirt, remember we were young, ... it was more of an anarchic thing more than anything else. Jesus is there because we were looking for a mythological character to sum up the apathy ... that anarchic statement. The religious side of it was obviously there to stir up a bit of controversy at the time but when those shirts were first introduced we were just a small band starting out."

He pauses for a moment before uttering the word "silly."

"It seems strange that 20 odd years on it keeps resurfacing in such a manner," Filth says of that t-shirt. "I think it will always be a bit of a bugbear for the band but at the end of the day it's something that happened. When I get to the pearly gates I'll have to explain my way out of it."

What will you say, Mr Filth?

"You know what, it worked out okay for you – we kept your name alive."

Справедливости ради, за этой футболкой(как и за музыкальным стилем на первом альбоме) стояло банальное подражательство норвежским группам 91-92 года.

Но Дани хотя бы себя и не относил к блэку, как другие подражатели из групп, вроде Emperor или Dimmu Borgir.

vavas88, я как раз хорошо знаком с "матчастью". Были три группы, которые в 92ом заиграли блэк, как идею протеста против дэта. Это были Darkthrone, Burzum и Immortal(отчасти, к этому относился еще и Mayhem).

Все остальные заиграли блэк позже как новую модную музыку. Фишка блэка изначально и подавалась как индивидуальность. Никакой индивидуальности у подражателей выше названных групп и нет. Они все и превратили блэк в клоунаду. Это относится и к крысам из Emperor.

Venom играли не блэк. К блэку их стали причислять "знатоки" через многие годы после появление блэка в Норвегии.

Тут просто Euronymous был фанатом Venom'a, поэтому и взял название из их песни для нового жанра. Впрочем, остальные создатели этого жанра не относились к поклонникам музыки этой группы(по их собственным словам же).

А с Emperor что не так-то? Вроде единственные среди симфо-блэка, кто пытался музыку делать, а не хрень для школьников писать. Они же, одни из немногих, в итоге отказались от клоунады - стали выступать без корпспэйнта.
