WHITECHAPEL: 'Our Endless War' Lyric Video ReleasedKnoxville, Tennessee metallers WHITECHAPEL will release their fifth full-length album, "Our Endless War", on April 29 via Metal Blade. A ruthlessly honed effort that refuses to compromise on brutality, it is also by far the band's most streamlined, atmospheric, and emotionally powerful release, pushing every aspect of their sound to the next level.
The lyric video for the "Our Endless War" title track can be seen below. "In typical WHITECHAPEL fashion, this CD takes the sound we have been developing over the past 8 years of our career and pushes it to new levels," says guitarist Alex Wade.
"We want each record we release to sound different, and this one is no exception.
"With dashes of every record we have done so far mixed with the intensity of a new sound, this record is sure to please fans of WHITECHAPEL, old and new." Having progressed with every record, on "Whitechapel" the band took a stylistic leap forward, garnering a whole army of new fans and greater critical respect in the process. This determination is immediately apparent. Having started to "seriously" write in February of 2013, the album was a year in the making, the band letting the writing develop organically while putting everything under a microscope, working harder on perfecting every song than they ever had before.
Famed for their three-guitar lineup, the band has always packed a crushing sonic punch, but on "Our Endless War", they take greater advantage of this than previously. Frequently, the seven-stringers build dramatic, incredibly heavy walls of thrilling noise through interweaving their parts, making for a sonic richness that pulls listeners even further into the songs. As with all of WHITECHAPEL's releases, the heaviness does not just stem from the music but Phil Bozeman's lyrics, showing characteristic diversity across the record's ten tracks.
When it came to tracking the album the band considered no one beyond Mark Lewis, who helmed "Whitechapel".
"Making the self-titled record went so well, we loved the way it came out, our label loved the way it came out, and our fans kept telling us that it was our best sounding record so it would have been stupid not to work with him again!" laughs Wade. For the artwork, the band turned again to Aaron Marsh, who supplied "Whitechapel" with its stark, arresting imagery, but again they wanted to push things to the next level.
"With the sound maturing, we felt like the artwork needed to reflect that," says Wade. "We also introduced a new logo — our old logo is classic WHITECHAPEL, and that's not something we plan on getting rid of, but as the band grows and changes we felt like we needed the logo to represent the maturity of this new WHITECHAPEL."
Leading up to the release of "Our Endless War", WHITECHAPEL has confirmed a string of dates, including an appearance at this year's New England Metal & Hardcore Festival. These dates will being April 16 in Columbus, Ohio and run through April 27 in Birmingham, Alabama. These shows feature support from CARNIFEX, WITHIN THE RUINS and CRUELHAND. More dates including a North American co-headlining North American tour are in the works and will be announced shortly. "Our Endless War" track listing:

WITHIN TEMPTATION: 'Hydra' Tour Diary Episode Five (Video)After months of blood, sweat and tears from Dutch symphonic metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION, the band's new album, "Hydra", is now on the road. While the group is on tour, singer Sharon den Adel is keeping a video diary of the trek that shows you what happens during and in between shows, and what it's like for the band to bring "Hydra" to the stage and see people respond to the new songs for the first time.
The fifth episode of the diary features some exclusive inside-the-tour bus footage, preparation of the show and a meeting with the "friendly rock star."
WITHIN TEMPTATION's new album, "Hydra", sold around 15,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 16 on The Billboard 200 chart.
WITHIN TEMPTATION's previous CD, "Unforgiving", opened with 12,000 units back in March 2011 to land at No. 50.
"Hydra" was released in North America on February 4 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment, the new U.S. partnership between Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger and former Roadrunner Records A&R chief Monte Conner. The album was made available in several luxury formats. The cover artwork was created by Romano Molenaar ("X-Men", "Batman", "The Unforgiving").
The digital premium album, complete with digi-booklet, was made available on iTunes and includes 18 audio tracks and a music video. The digital premium album features bonus "Evolution Versions" of four new songs, which contain audio commentary from guitarist Robert Westerholt and singer Sharon Den Adel and give you unique access to the development of the songs, their lyrical inspiration and the sound of the initial demos and vocals.
In a recent interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com, WITHIN TEMPTATION vocalist Sharon Den Adel stated about the songwriting process for "Hydra"": "A lot of bands were inspired by the '80s at the time we were writing 'The Unforgiving' album. There was a lot of music based on the '80s coming out and it had a lot of '80s flavors. With this new album, even though we're only a few years further up the road, you can feel that music has changed again. Music is not inspired on the '80s, but more like there are different influences in the music again. Music's always organic, and you feel things are changing comfortably."
She added: "When people asked us after 'The Unforgiving', 'Are you gonna make another 'Unforgiving' album?" we said, 'Of course.' Because we were really full of it in a positive way. We really like the album a lot and still do like it a lot but we really feel there's an '80s feel to the songs. When we started writing this album, again we felt like we were already knowing we were gonna go a different direction also."

'Anybody Home?' lyric video:
Rage now present the complete liner notes on this ultimate song collection...
CD1:
1. ‘Anybody Home?’: "This is a newly recorded song we created from leftover ideas we had from the 21-sessions. At that time we couldn't find the right grooves for it and after changing the arrangement a million times, it was too late for that album. Now, after re-visiting the tune two years later, it came out naturally. It was real fun for us to turn up the volume and kick it out roughly, a good marker for our future."
2. ‘Mystery Trip’: "This was a bonus track for the European limited edition version of Unity."
3. ‘In Union’: "This is a leftover Song Victor wrote for the album »Into the Light« which he produced for the Nuclear Blast 25th Anniversary. Originally it was planned that HAMMERFALL's Joacim Cans would sing it, but we couldn't schedule the recording session, as he was too busy. So we planned to give it to Tarja Turunen with new lyrics written especially for her (‘Raven And Swan’). Unfortunately she also turned it down, as it seemed too heavy for her, so she sang something different. In the end the song was used by MIND ODYSSEY for their Time To Change It album. What you hear now is our first demo with Peavy's pilot vocals."
4. ‘Long Hard Road’: "At the time we worked on Carved In Stone, we used to rehearse in the studio, so we would record our new ideas directly in a good quality. What you hear is absolutely live with no overdubs at all. This is already the second version we recorded, five minutes before that, Peavy finished the lyrics."
5. ‘Full Moon’ (international version): "This is a remix from several versions of this song we did as bonus tracks for the diverse versions of Speak Of The Dead. At this time we recorded the song in five different languages that were only issued in the specific territories. Peavy sung it in English, German, Spanish, Russian and Japanese. Of course these versions were real live killers in the language's countries, as you can imagine. For the first time you can hear a funny new mix with all these languages, a Babylonian joy."
6. ‘Nevermore’: "This first demo version of this song we recorded on an 8-track-machine in our rehearsal room. We didn't change much for our later issued version for The Missing Link. The band was in a very creative phase at that time and we used to meet nearly every day, drink too much coffee and work on songs till the late evening."
7. ‘French Bourree’: "A while before we recorded Soundchaser, Victor had put out his second solo album Majesty And Passion where he interpreted music from Johann Sebastian Bach in his very own style. He had arranged a lot more tunes from that fantastic Baroque composer, so we could also use two of them for Rage. Unfortunately they were only used as bonus tracks; this one was for the European limited edition of the album. We've played it live several times with the LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA."
8. ‘A Perfect Day’: "This is another song written for the Into The Light album. The original version was sung by Andi Deris from HELLOWEEN. Here we issue our demo version with Peavy's pilot vocals for the first time."
9. ‘Enough Is Enough’: "This is a very early sketch of this song, recorded even before we did a real demo. After we had recorded the Extended Power EP, we had some studio time left that we used to tape some rough ideas for the next album, which turned out to be Trapped!. This recording is absolutely live with no overdubs."
10. ‘Here Comes The Night’: "This is a leftover song we had written for Soundchaser. As we had too many songs in the end we decided to use it for the next album, which, of course, we forgot. Issued here for the first time with new drum tracks from Andrè, as we were not permitted to use the original drum tracks from Mike Terrana."
11. ‘Here Comes The Night’: "This is the demo version of that song written for the Ghost album. There's no orchestration or keyboards here like later on the album version. Victor had just joined the band and we tried to give the material a bit more heaviness, as the former guitarists had left the scene with just a few poor tracks. Unfortunately the record company demanded a less heavy version, so here you can hear that song for the first time in a heavy riffing shape, like it was meant to be."
12. ‘Lost In The Void’: "That's another one from the Carved In Stone demo session. Again, absolutely live in the studio without any overdubs with a spontaneous crazy jam session solo from Victor."
13. ‘The Missing Link’: "Another track from The Missing Link demos."
14. ‘Another Kind Of Madness’: "Here you can listen to the first recording of that song, in a complete different arrangement, like it was planned for Trapped!. It didn't make it on the album, as Noise Records thought it was too progressive for us. Later, we did an acoustic version that was used as a bonus track for 'The Missing Link'. What you here now is a rough sketch, absolutely live in the studio, no overdubs and nearly no lyrics (!), Peavy is improvising on some early ideas."
15. ‘Down To The Bone’: "This is a song from the long lost AVENGER EP Depraved To Black, originally released on a very small German label (Wishbone) in 1985. Avenger was the original name of the band, after this EP we had changed our name to Rage, as our next Label Noise demanded. The Avenger material (Prayers Of Steel plus the songs from the EP) were added as a bonus CD to the first edition of Black In Mind in 1995, but were never really re- released. Here you can get an idea of how the band sounded in their very beginning. There's some funny sound features in the middle part of that song: check out the "torture scene" with self-recorded chain whips (we used Peavy's bass belt for that (!)."
CD2:
1. ‘The Speed Of Sound’: "Here's another newly recorded song we've made from leftover ideas. It is based on stuff written for »End Of All Days« in 1996, now freshly pimped up with new ideas. It captures some of the good old power metal spirit but our performance sounds a lot more modern."
2. ‘Darkness Turns To Light’: "The second bonus track we recorded for »Unity«. It was issued only in Japan so far."
3. ‘Death Is Alive’: "This song was also written for »Into The Light« for Nuclear Blast's 25th Anniversary. The original version was sung by Mats Leven (ex-THERION). The here issued demo version features Peavy's guide vocals (including his imitation of the female voice)."
4. ‘Gentle Murders’: "'Carved In Stone' demo session, part three. Strictly live in the studio without any overdubs. The decision to go down with the main guitar part from comfortable A minor to G minor gave this killer riff much more energy, but also made it difficult to play."
5. ‘From The Cradle To The Grave’: "This is a special version of this demo recorded for the »XIII« album. After Victor had joined the band we wanted to give the song a more interesting guitar solo, so we tested some ideas from Victor on that old demo, as the solo track was free. As we were quite consumed by putting the band together again we lost it out of sight. As we went through our archives we found it again. It's a real rarity."
6. ‘Refuge’: "The Missing Link: Demos, part three."
7. ‘Fugue No. 5’: "This instrumental is another genius composition by Johann Sebastian Bach in the fantastic arrangement by Victor Smolski. It was used as a bonus track for the Japanese version of 'Soundchaser' and is previously unreleased in the rest of the world. We played it live once on the international Bach days Festival in Leipzig, the place where the master lived and died."
8. ‘Last Goodbye’: "This song was quite rare already in its original version for the Beyond The Wall EP in 1992. This is the rough demo for it we had recorded live in the studio more than a year before. No overdubs."
9. ‘Dirty Wings’: "Another track we did for the Into the Light session. It has a different solo than the later recorded album version. On the original you hear Tobi Sammet from EDGUY/AVANTASIA singing. This demo has Peavy's guide vocals."
10. ‘The Pit And The Pendulum’: "The last one from the Missing Link demos issued here."
11. ‘Waterfalls’: "Previously unreleased. This funny long song is an example of our overloading creativity in the early 90's. We were jamming on the quite psychedelic composition with an open end. Here you can hear an already edited version; we have cut out some longer endless solos and vocal experiments, too strange for unexperienced ears. Everything is live in the studio, no overdubs, of course."
12. ‘Heads Off’: "This is the first demo version of the song later called ‘Brainsucker’ which Victor produced for Into the Light, sung by DESTRUCTION's Schmier. As he wanted to contribute some of his own ideas, we wrote some new words together. This early demo with Peavy's vocals features the original text."
13. ‘Assorted By Satan’: "The track starts with the complete intro played by Peavy on the classical guitar which was faded at half on the AVENGER Prayers Of Steel album. The intro was taken from Avenger 's first demo , the rest of the song is the original album version. This is how it all started."
14. ‘Shame On You’: "This track is from the second demo session for Trapped!, the band recorded in their rehearsal room. Check the very authentic Arabian native vocals in the intro."
15. ‘Soundchaser’: "Finally here's the first version of our Soundchaser title track. It has various arrangement differences compared to the later released album version. The demo is issued here with newly recorded drums from Andre, as we couldn't use the original tracks from Mike."

Video: AEROSMITH's TYLER, PERRY Perform 'Dream On' With Southern California Children's ChorusAEROSMITH's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry performed a new arrangement of their classic power ballad "Dream On" with the Southern California Children's Chorus on the season premiere of ESPN's show "E:60", an hour-long special dedicated to last year's Boston Marathon bombings.
"It's almost like [the song] was written for this unfortunate event," Tyler told People magazine. "The lyrics, it's one of those rare songs that you can apply to a lot of different things, you can interpret it how you want, which is really the magic of music," added Perry. "You can take it, and you can apply it to something very personal and small or something — a big event, an event like what happened in Boston."
The show first aired this past Saturday on ABC. An updated version will be broadcast on ESPN on Tuesday, April 15, at 7 p.m.
A clip of Tyler and Perry's "Dream On" performance with the Southern California Children's Chorus can be seen below. 2

Video: HALESTORM Performs With Stand-In Bassist CALVIN ROFFEY In AntwerpHALESTORM bassist Josh Smith was forced to miss the band's April 12 and April 13 concerts in Antwerp, Belgium and Cologne, Germany, respectively, due to the fact that he was flying back home to attend his brother's wedding. Filling in for him at the shows was Calvin Roffey of the English rock band THE SMOKING HEARTS, which is supporting HALESTORM on the Lzzy Hale-fronted group's current European tour.
As previously reported, HALESTORM has debuted two new songs at two separate shows recently. The first tune, "Heartbreaker", was performed on March 28 at the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville, Tennessee, while the second track, "Mayhem", made its debut earlier this month in England.
The group began writing its third album in January, after completing more than 20 months of touring behind 2012's "The Strange Case Of…"
Singer Lzzy Hale told The Pulse Of Radio one thing the band might do differently this time. "We're probably gonna record it in Nashville instead of L.A. this time," she said. "It's a quieter vibe and a little less distractions. I think we can kind of lock ourselves into a studio (laughs) and become intimate with our inner crazy [laughs] and hopefully not kill each other in the process [laughs]."
"Love Bites" also won the Grammy last year for "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance." 2

Video: KILL DEVIL HILL Performs Cover Of PANTERA's 'Mouth For War' In MelbourneFan-filmed video footage of KILL DEVIL HILL performing a cover version of the PANTERA classic "Mouth For War" on March 13 at The Palace in Melbourne, Australia can be seen below (courtesy of AndrewHaug.com).
KILL DEVIL HILL features former PANTERA bassist Rex Brown alongside Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) on guitar, Jason "Dewey" Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) on vocals and the band's latest addition, drummer Johnny Kelly (TYPE O NEGATIVE, DANZIG, A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH), who replaced Vinny Appice (BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, DIO, LAST IN LINE) in March.
In a recent interview with Digital Diversion, Brown stated about KILL DEVIL HILL's current touring activities: "Basically, these days, it's so oversaturated with the market that, you know, bands — the kids that are out there, they are coming to spend money on this, [so the bands had] better be good. It reminds me of the days when PANTERA was coming up. We did the same exact fucking thing. You just got to keep out there on the road and keep doing it and keep doing it and keep doing it until it fucking hits. You look back at any record that really didn't take off … like, you thought it was going to take off because it's a really good record … that it took a while for it to hit and sink in, but you had to be visible. And that's the whole thing with [KILL DEVIL HILL's sophomore album, 'Revolution Rise']. We've written a really great record and I'm really proud of it. Musically, it's a record I've been wanting to do for years."
KILL DEVIL HILL played its first shows with Kelly behind the kit April 4-6, three warm-up shows before embarking on an Australian run with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE.
"Revolution Rise" sold around 2,150 copies in the United States in its first week of release. Released on October 29, 2013 via Century Media Records, the CD was produced by KILL DEVIL HILL and Jeff Pilson (DOKKEN, FOREIGNER, DIO) and was mixed by Jay Ruston (STONE SOUR, ANTHRAX, STEEL PANTHER). The cover artwork was created by Sam Shearon, who has previously worked with ROB ZOMBIE, IRON MAIDEN and FEAR FACTORY, to name just a few.

VIXEN: Fan-Filmed Footage Of MONSTERS OF ROCK PerformanceVideo footage of VIXEN's performance aboard the Monsters Of Rock cruise, which departed from Miami, Florida on March 29, can be seen below.
Bassist Share Ross, singer Janet Gardner and drummer Roxy Petrucci are honoring their friend and bandmate, guitarist and founder of VIXEN, Jan Kuehnemund, by performing as VIXEN.
The band was committed to reunite in 2012 but Kuehnemund's cancer diagnosis caused what was thought of at the time as a delay. Sadly, however, after a fierce battle, Kuehnemund succumbed to her illness in October 2013, thus the reunion was not meant to be.
After discussing the idea with friends and family as well as lead vocalist from the most recent lineup, Jenna Sanz-Agero, it was agreed that it was the right decision for the three surviving definitive members to carry on as VIXEN.
Gardner commented: "We've been hearing the fans ask for this and while it will never be the same without Jan, we believe in our hearts it's what she would have wanted."
Joining forces with their JSRG bandmate, guitarist Gina Stile, VIXEN will perform at select festivals and showcase dates in 2014.
Kuehnemund was only 51 years old at the time of her death.
In 1987, "Edge Of A Broken Heart" climbed the Billboard chart to the Top Ten and VIXEN had hit after hit. EMI suddenly had the only platinum-selling all-female rock band of its time on their roster. Dubbed "MTV Darlings", the hits kept coming with "Cryin'", "How Much Love", "Love Is A Killer" and "Not a Minute Too Soon". The band earned credibility as they opened up for superstars, including OZZY OSBOURNE, DEEP PURPLE, SCORPIONS and BON JOVI, to name a few. A live performance on the "Arsenio Hall" television show sealed their credibility with the fact that these girls could play.
VIXEN's original members Gardner, Kuehnemund, Ross and Petrucci appeared together on VH1's "Bands Reunited" in October 2004 to reminisce about their start on L.A.'s Sunset Strip and their rise to fame in the late 1980s, before the onset of grunge in the early 1990s displaced metal at the top of the charts. They also took part in a short performance for the program. 1

THINE - The Dead City Blueprint Teaser Video StreamingUK dark rock/prog quintet THINE have released a teaser video for their third studio album, The Dead City Blueprint, which is due for release via Peaceville Records on April 28th.
Thine entered the hallowed and legendary Academy Studios (PARADISE LOST, ANATHEMA, MY DYING BRIDE) to record the long overdue follow-up to the 2002 album, In Therapy, and sees the band building upon the sublime hooks and dark existential themes from prior works.
Commented the band: "We've been toiling away for over a decade on shaping our latest monster. It has been such a long and grueling process with countless collapses and relapses and a traumatic voyage on numerous levels, but this opus is finally in the flesh so to speak. It is an encapsulation of all those glorious tragedies we all find ourselves overcoming along the way, and essentially for us, a welcome catalyst. Sometimes the best art comes only through being unexpectedly forced through the city's darkest avenues, so hope you'll find us there."
Tracklisting:
'Brave Young Assassin'
'Flame To The Oak'
'Out Of Your Mind & Into A Void'
'To The Precipice'
'The Dead City Blueprint'

'Adrift Through The Arcane Isles Of Recovery'
Teaser:
Having formed in 1995 in Yorkshire, UK with the core trio of Alan Gaunt, Paul Groundwell and Daniel Mullins (currently handling drum duties with My Dying Bride), Thine initially burst onto the scene in 1997 with the release of the atmospheric prog/doom Journeys demo tape, with the debut album of boundary-warping metal noir, A Town Like This, appearing on Peaceville the following year. Thine's most accomplished work to date, In Therapy saw light of day a full four years later, and showcased a more sleek and immediate sound, bringing comparisons to other dark and emotional acts such as KATATONIA and Anathema. The band line-up is completed by Dylan Rhodes on rhythm guitar and Richard Swift on bass.

LAWNMOWER DETH Launch Kickstarter Campaign For Debut Album ReissueBritish madcap thrashers LAWNMOWER DETH have launched a Kickstarter campaign to re-press their 1990 debut album, Ooh Crikey It's... Lawnmower Deth, after recently being confirmed to play at this year's Download Festival on Saturday, June 14th.
Having been unavailable for nearly twenty years, repeated demands from hardcore fans has led Lawnmower Deth and Earache to launch a campaign to get the album remastered and reissued, with a range of suitably-mad items concocted for fans to pledge for and all profits going to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
Lawnmower Deth frontman Pete "Qualcast Mutilator" Lee comments: "You know that giddy feeling you get. The one when you're 9 and 3/4 old, that one where it makes you kick your legs, the one that makes you run down hills going 'urgh-urgh-urgh-urgh-urgh'. You mean you've forgotten? Fear not. Here's how to get it back. Them lovely people at Earache and now honorary buffoons have decided, after your years of pestering, to reissue the now legendary opus that is Dark Side Of The Moon. OK, they couldn't get that, but they have got Ooh Crikey It's.... Horns. Heard ya! And not only that, all profits will go to our most favourite and deserving charity, The Sophie Lancaster Foundation. We need your pledges, now! Show us the money. Show SOPHIE the money. You can always chuck the vinyl away afterwards."
If the campaign is successful, the album will be reissued on CD and vinyl in a limited print run, remastered from the original tapes in Full Dynamic Range (FDR) audio, which allows the music's nuances to shine through, giving the album a more ferocious, immersive and dynamic sound than ever before.
Fans can pledge now for signed band photos, Ooh Crikey It's... Lawnmower Deth CDs, FDR vinyl in a range of colours, never before released demo tracks, your name in the credits of the entire CD and vinyl print run and, in true Lawnmower Deth style, signed original Weebles (rare vintage toys), a Satan's Trampoline, adopt-a-sheep, and even a Qualcast lawnmower signed by the band.
Also available is one pair of VIP day passes to this year's Download Festival on the day that Lawnmower Deth are performing, including a meet & greet with the band themselves.
Pledge now and get your hands on a limited edition re-press and other one-of-a-kind collectibles at this location.
Please note there is no risk when pledging, as money will only be taken if the campaign reaches its target, at which point production will begin.

Prized AC/DC Guitar Stolen From Canadian RestaurantAccording to Surrey Now, a guitar autographed by the Young brothers of legendary Australian rockers AC/DC was stolen earlier this week from the White Rock, British Columbia, Canada restaurant Charlie Don't Surf.
The incident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on April 7 when thieves allegedly broke into the establishment and made off with the cherry-red Gibson SG 1961 reproduction signed by Angus and Malcolm Young.
"It was a very popular piece in the restaurant and we had it really well secured," said restaurant owner John Carroll. "We spent quite a bit of money putting it up in museum-quality Plexiglas that wouldn’t break, but somehow the guy got it off the wall."
He added: "It was one of the most photographed items in here. The customers loved it and people were always going over and calling their friends to look at it."
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating the alleged theft and security footage has been given over to authorities.
AC/DC will enter a studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada this May to begin recording its 16th studio album. The project will be the first set of new AC/DC material since 2008's "Black Ice" album. In addition, the band intends to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year by playing 40 shows in selected cities around the world which are yet to be announced. 3

LINKIN PARK Wanted To Weed Out 'Soft' Side Of Music For New DiscAccording to The Pulse Of Radio, LINKIN PARK vocalist Mike Shinoda told Rolling Stone that the band's new album, "The Hunting Party", started out sounding like their last one, 2012's "Living Things", until Shinoda came to a realization. He explained, "It needed to be visceral. We need to weed out a lot of the soft, emo kind of approach to our music, and we need to weed out anything that feels aggressive for aggressive's sake. We're not 18-year-old kids making a loud record — we're 37-year-old adults making a loud record."
Shinoda added that the current music scene, dominated by acts like VAMPIRE WEEKEND and CHVRCHES, was not inspiring him, saying, "I like indie music. I like indie pop. But at a certain point, I feel like that box had been checked and checked again."
Singer Chester Bennington echoed Shinoda when he told The Pulse Of Radio that the band did start work on the new album in a different vein. "We were writing some of the songs that would fit really well with what's going on right now in music, especially in the alternative side of things, and they were all great songs, but by the time we got started working on them and getting into them, we were just kind of like, 'Ehhhhhhh, it's really cool when other people do it, but i think we should go somewhere else,'" he said.
Rolling Stone described some of the songs featured on "The Hunting Party", which arrives on June 17, as "LINKIN PARK at their angriest and most adrenalized."
Shinoda revealed that his manager and a radio promotion exec at his label told him, "This music is gonna have a real hard time living on rock radio. It's kind of a bad move. We can't rely on a home run at radio."
Guests on "The Hunting Party" include rapper Rakim — who appears on current single "Guilty All The Same" — HELMET frontman Page Hamilton and SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian.
LINKIN PARK will head out on a co-headlining North American tour this summer with 30 SECONDS TO MARS that kicks off on August 8 in West Palm Beach, Florida. 11

THE SKULL Joined By Former PENTAGRAM Guitarist MATT GOLSDSBOROUGHTHE SKULL — the heavy doom-rock band featuring original TROUBLE members vocalist Eric Wagner and drummer Jeff "Oly" Olson, alongside longtime former TROUBLE bassist Ron Holzner and SACRED DAWN guitarist Lothar Keller — has announced the addition of former PENTAGRAM guitarist Matt Goldsborough to the group's ranks. He will be taking over for Chuck Robinson, who has decided to exit the band in order to focus on "his demanding professional career," according to a press release.
Comments THE SKULL: "Timing was perfect when we met Matt and everything just seemed to fall into place at the right time when we needed a replacement.
"Matt is very laid back, has a captivating stage presence, and his riffs are electrifying! If you've ever seen him live with PENTAGRAM, you'll know what we are talking about. "We all understand and support Chuck's decision. He is welcome on stage with us as a guest guitarist anytime, and we wish our brother well." Matt Goldsborough is Philadelphia-based guitarist who joined PENTAGRAM in April 2013 and performed with the legendary band throughout the United States and Europe until original PENTAGRAM guitarist Victor Griffin (IN-GRAVED) decided to rejoin earlier this year. PENTAGRAM stated in a press release last April about Goldsborough, "His style hearkens back to the very origins of heavy metal itself when heavy blues and psychedelic rock guitarists pioneered the genre in an attempt to harden rock and roll."
THE SKULL has unleashed two new singles recorded with acclaimed producer/engineer Billy Anderson (MELVINS, NEUROSIS). The "limited-edition" white vinyl replica CD featuring "Sometime Yesterday Mourning" (side A) and "The Last Judgment" (side B) was made available on April 8 via Tee Pee Records.
"Sometime Yesterday Mourning" and "The Last Judgment" can be streamed below. "Sometime Yesterday Mourning" is a doomy metal song written by Keller, Holzner and Wagner that showcases the genre pioneers' distinct style while "The Last Judgement" is a "revisiting" of the classic TROUBLE song of the same name that originally appeared on the classic 1983 "Metal Massacre IV" compilation album. "I think 'Sometime Yesterday Mourning' is the perfect song for THE SKULL to lead with and there's a reason why it was the first song we completed as a band," commented Wagner. "It's about coming to a point in life when it's just time for a new beginning, a fresh start if you will, and finally coming to terms with the past.
"Being that it is the 30th anniversary of the release of the song 'The Last Judgement' — the first song we ever released — we thought it fit perfectly for the B-side and considering what 'Sometime Yesterday Mourning' is about, it made sense to me. You have to go through your past to get to your future."
THE SKULL will follow the release of the new songs with its debut full length LP, tentatively slated for release this autumn.
THE SKULL is:
Eric Wagner - vocalsJeff "Oly" Olson - drums/keysRon Holzner - bassLothar Keller - guitarMatt Goldsborough - guitar

DEFTONES: Previously Unreleased Song 'Smile' Featuring CHI CHENG Posted OnlineDEFTONES have posted their previously unreleased song "Smile", from the shelved album "Eros", on YouTube on Sunday (April 13) to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of the band's bassist Chi Cheng. Check out the track below.
DEFTONES singer Chino Moreno said last year that he believes that the band should and will release "Eros", the album it recorded before Cheng was left in a semi-comatose state by a car accident in November 2008. Although Moreno was not sure if the disc would ever surface, his feelings have changed since Cheng's death. Moreno told MTV Hive, "I get asked about that record a lot. For a while, I was giving the same answer, 'No, no, no, no, no, no, no.' After Chi's passing, I went back and listened to some of the record and it was a pretty intense experience to say the least." Moreno added, "I think it should be released, but we don't have any definite plans. There's some work to do on it. DEFTONES have been moving forward in a strong, positive motion, so for us to stop and reflect on something five years ago, I don't know if we're ready for that."
But he also said, "It is a special thing for us: it's the last thing Chi played on. It will see the light of day. I just don't know when."
Cheng performed on DEFTONES' first five albums, with his last released work being on 2006's "Saturday Night Wrist".
Bassist Sergio Vega played on "Diamond Eyes" and the most recent DEFTONES disc, "Koi No Yokan". 2

BLACK SABBATH Touring Drummer TOMMY CLUFETOS: OZZY, TONY And GEEZER 'Rock Harder Than Any 20-Year-Olds I Know'Jason Rockman, SLAVES ON DOPE singer and on-air announcer/host of "Amped With The Rockman" on the Montreal, Quebec, Canada radio station CHOM 97 7, conducted an interview with BLACK SABBATH's touring drummer Tommy Clufetos before the band's April 7 concert in Montreal. You can now watch the chat below.
On giving it his all while performing with BLACK SABBATH:
Tommy: "I give them all the respect in the world — Ozzy [Osbourne, vocals], Tony [Iommi, guitar] and Geezer [Butler, bass] — because I'm 34 now, and they're twice my age, and they rock harder than any 20-year-olds I know, and they go every night to the fullest. So it's what it's all about — it's giving it up for the people and for the show and the music, and it keeps you young."
On how he prepared for the BLACK SABBATH touring gig:
Tommy: "Oh, I just do everything I can. I'm not telling you any of my secrets, because I don't want people stealing my gigs. I just go over everything with a fine tooth comb over and over and over and try to get myself into the music and the spirit of what the music is all about the best that I can. So I do anything and everything to do so."
In a 2013 interview with Rhythm magazine, Clufetos explained why he took the BLACK SABBATH job despite fan disapproval, saying, "I look at it as an opportunity to play great music and experience something new. If I wasn't going to play drums, somebody else would have played… I understand all the mixed feelings and emotions. I totally get it. But I'm here to do the greatest job I can, and give people the experience of hearing those songs. I think I've done that. I think people have walked away enjoying what I've brought."
Clufetos did not play on the SABBATH reunion album, "13", a role that was filled by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE drummer Brad Wilk.
Singer Ozzy Osbourne told The Pulse Of Radio at the time that Clufetos was gong to play on the record until producer Rick Rubin stepped in. "Tommy was offered the gig until Rick Rubin came along," he said. "Rick Rubin didn't want Tommy, and nobody told… It was a bit of a communication breakdown. Tommy was on the side waiting, and it just didn't work out, you know. It works out in the end."
Although original BLACK SABBATH drummer Bill Ward was initially announced as part of the reunion in late 2011, he dropped out within a couple of months, saying he was offered an "unsignable" contract.
The members of SABBATH were reportedly concerned that Ward's health would not hold up on the road and allegedly asked him to accept the use of a second drummer on tour, which he refused.
In an e-mail to Billboard.com, Rubin explained that "Brad is a muscular drummer with great feel and understands the groovy nature of their music — RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE is a groovy rock band, not a metal band — so it was worth a try. When they played together the first time, it was obvious he would do a great job in the seat Bill left vacated. Bill's a great drummer and I'm sure it would have been an amazing album with him. We all wanted him to participate."

MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE Performs With SAN DIEGO SYMPHONY; Video Footage Posted OnlineMEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine was a featured soloist last night (Saturday, April 12) with the San Diego Symphony. The classical special concert, billed as "Symphony Interrupted", took place at the 2,200-capacity Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego, California. The event saw Mustaine perform Richard Wagner's "Ride Of The Valkyries" with the orchestra, as well as solos of Vivaldi's concertos from "The Four Seasons", plus Bach's classic "Air".
The first fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.
"There's such a difference in the [classical music and metal] societies," Mustaine told The Daily Aztec one week before the event. "That's the thing that I'm looking forward to, seeing how these two worlds are going to collide."
He continued: "In my mind, I'm getting ready to go walk out to the stage, come in with a little tuxedo on, I'm going to get down there and they're going to go, 'Fuck yeah, Dave!' and all the classical guys are going to go, 'Oh my God, he said the F-word!'"
Mustaine also talked about the influence classical music has had on MEGADETH since the band's inception three decades ago.
"On the very first song on our very first record, I actually played piano," he said. "Funny thing was, it was a very, very, hacked up version of Beethoven's 'Fugue In D Minor' and going back and listening to the actual performance of Beethoven, it's kind of like, 'Nice try, Dave,' because it was close to it, but I mean, I was a gutter kid that grew up on the street and was playing from memory. I was surprised I could even play the piano."
Tickets to the show were sold out in advance online, but a limited amount of tickets were made available on sale the day of the performance.
"These are the times I wish my mom was still alive to be able to see this stuff, because I remember when I first started playing guitar, she would say like, 'Turn it down you're going to kill somebody!,'" Mustaine told The Daily Aztec. "Guess what, mom? I'm playing with the symphony now."
Speaking to The San Diego Union-Tribune, Mustaine admitted that he has developed a greater awareness of just how popular "The Four Seasons" , Vivaldi's best-known and most beloved work is, both in and beyond the world of classical music.
"I had no idea how famous these (movements) were until I learned them and I started hearing them everywhere, like in car commercials, Olympics commercials," he said. "(It was like) 'There's that song! There's that song. Aaaah!' Then we decided we wanted to add a little bit more...
"Once I started actually approaching it from the lead violin part, it didn't really have a part that to me was a feature kind of thing. So we picked the program and there's some other music that sets the mood and then I'll come out and play. And then we'll take an intermission and then there will be another portion of the program. And we're discussing playing again (together) during that part, but that's kind of up in the air still. And we're also talking about trying to incorporate some MEGADETH stuff into it.
"Right now, it's been so free for me to be able to do this and everybody's been working really well together, (so) who knows what's going to happen?" 7

MALPRACTICE Signs With SENSORY RECORDSFinnish quintet MALPRACTICE has inked a deal with New Jersey-based Sensory Records.
Formed in 1994 in Kouvola, Finland by guitarist Joonas Koto, MALPRACTICE started out as a thrash act. Following the release of a debut MCD, "Memorial", in 1996, the band cast aside its most aggressive influences and opted to explore a more progressive direction, which was apparent on their second MCD, "Frozen", released later the same year. Without a deal in place, MALPRACTICE entered the studio in March 1998 to record its first full-length album, "Of Shape And Balance", released via Mastervox Records in September of that year. Following a brief hiatus and reactivation in 2004, MALPRACTICE signed with Spinefarm. This also began the band's cooperation and friendship with producer/engineer Anssi Kippo at Astia Studio (CHILDREN OF BODOM, SINERGY, NORTHER), with the recording of their second full-length, "Deviation From The Flow", and into the 2008 release of their third album, "Triangular", which not only expanded their forward-thinking style, also reinvigorated some of their early thrash elements. In 2010 the band recorded a demo, which eventually became their fourth album, "Turning Tides". As their contract with Spinefarm expired, the band sought new pastures, and given the more melodic and progressive nature of their style, found solace in Laser's Edge offshoot Sensory Records, which is now preparing "Turning Tides" for proper worldwide release this summer. "Turning Tides" represents MALPRACTICE at their absolute best, combing intricate progressive metal with catchy melodies topped with excellent musicianship and brilliant vocal harmonies, and a must-hear for fans of QUEENSRŸCHE, FATES WARNING, DREAM THEATER and MEGADETH. MALPRACTICE is:
