ACE FREHLEY And PETER CRISS: More Footage Of New York City ReunionOriginal KISS members Ace Frehley (guitar) and Peter Criss (drums) reunited on stage for the first time in 13 years this past Wednesday night (October 23) during the all-star jam at the 30th-anniversary party for VH1 Classic "That Metal Show" co-host Eddie Trunk's radio show at the Hard Rock Café in New York City. Drummer Mike Portnoy (THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER) served as the musical director for the event, which featured additional performances by members of GUNS N' ROSES, ANTHRAX, ACCEPT, TNT, TWISTED SISTER and OVERKILL, among others.
Frehley and Criss, along with several other members of the backing band — including GNR's Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and ANTHRAX's Scott Ian and Frank Bello — played KISS' "Love Her All I Can" and "Rock and Roll All Nite". You can watch video of their appearance below (courtesy of Artisan News). Also available is footage of the "Rock and Roll All Nite" pre-show soundcheck.
In a current issue of Rolling Stone, KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons pulled no punches when talking about the disappointment he feels towards Criss and Frehley, but refused to take any of the blame the former drummer and guitarist — along with millions of fans — continue throw his way, declaring, "I am the bad guy. I won't stand for drunks and alcoholics who get up on stage and consider it their birthright. I consider it a privilege to get up there and arrive on time and be sober, and I'll be an asshole to anybody who thinks otherwise. You know who else is an asshole? Your teacher was an asshole. Your parents are assholes. Your drill sergeant was an asshole. Because they wouldn't let you get away with shit. Ace and Peter have had a lifetime of being losers. And not just with drugs and alcohol. They're losers because of wrong decisions. You sleep in the bed you make. How many chances in life do you get? They were in and out of the band three different times. Why should they get another chance?"
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Simmons went on to say: "Anybody who gets angry at us are just small people with small dreams who never achieved anything and will always be angry. But they're mostly angry with themselves for being losers."
Simmons and guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley have chosen to have the rest of the current KISS lineup — guitarist Tommy Thayer and longtime drummer Eric Singer — dress up as Criss' and Frehley's respective "Spaceman" and "Catman" personas. The Pulse Of Radio asked Simmons what it feels like to turn around and see the spitting image of his former bandmates — yet it's someone else. "Y'know, we still have a tug of the heart," he said. "It's like your drunken dysfunctional father who was a bum and you finally had to get rid of him — but you still remember the beginning when he was a good dad. Ace and Peter are beloved, as they should be, for the beginning. For helping launch the band — if you don't mind me saying so — that changed the face of rock 'n roll, literally and figuratively speaking. But equally as important part of the beginning of KISS, it's also important to know that with them in the band today, KISS wouldn't be around."

LOVE/HATE To Release 'Crucified' Album In JanuaryVeteran rockers LOVE/HATE will release a new studio album, "Crucified", in January. A U.K. tour will follow in March.
The first LOVE/HATE record of all-original music in years, "Crucified" sees the band's lead singer, Jizzy Pearl, "taking the 'old' out of old-school and delivering songs that sound every bit as classic as the classic LOVE/HATE songs fans have grown to love," according to a press release. LOVE/HATE will perform on next year's Monsters Of Rock cruise, which will take place March 29 - April 2.
LOVE/HATE's debut album, "Blackout in the Red Room", reached No. 154 on The Billboard 200 in 1990. The video for the single "Why Do You Think They Call It Dope?" was in rotation on MTV, chiefly on "Headbanger's Ball".
In 1992 when they released a second album "Wasted in America", Jizzy Pearl used himself in a legendary publicity stunt to help album sales. This stunt, with the help of a few others, included Jizzy successfully erecting a cross on the Hollywood sign and positioned himself on it. There are two incarnations of LOVE/HATE, before Jizzy Pearl left for L.A. GUNS and after he returned to restart LOVE/HATE. The second incarnation ended quickly as Jizzy Pearl left again to join RATT.

XANDRIA new singerBreaking news from Germany's top symphonic metal band Xandria: the five piece is presenting astonishing Dutch talent Dianne van Giersbergen as its new singer.
Handsome van Giersbergen, equipped with a fantastic vocal range, will replace leaving Manuela Kraller, who decided to follow other musical challenges after three successful years with the band.
Manuela thanks all fans and Xandria in a personal statement: "After three years with the boys in Xandria, I decided to follow a different path and go my own musical way." The sympathethic Bavarian singer leaves with regret but also full of gratitude, thanking band and fans for the time they had together and being grateful for the "wonderful moments in mutual tours and shows". Manuela is "wishing Dianne and band all the very best for the future!".
The Dutch / German quintet just hit the studio recording the band's sixth studio album, the successor to critically acclaimed symphonic metal jewel "Neverworld's End". The record in progress will already feature Dianne van Giersbergen's extraordinary voice and talent.
As much as the band does regret the departure of Manuela after three "phenomenal" years, everyone is very much looking forward to continue the chosen path with 28year old van Giersbergen, who also sings with Dutch progressive metal outfit Ex Libris and who will debut on stage with the band late November on a Spanish tour. The new Dutch member adds to this: "Thinking of all the beautiful things I am yet to do, people I am yet to meet and memories that are yet to be made brings a smile to my face! I am looking forward to this adventure and would love to take you all along with me.".
Fans had a last chance seeing Manuela Kraller performing with XANDRIA this past weekend in Leipzig (Germany) and Pratteln (Switzerland), where Manu's grand finale with the band was held at the "Masters of Symphonic Metal" Festival at Z7.
The band's upcoming album is yet to be titled. Its release date tentatively is scheduled for the first quarter in 2014. XANDRIA assures to continue the musical journey and direction taken with 2012 album "Neverworld's End", but also promises the new album and Dianne's talent will bring in even more of everything "people liked especially in this last album".
More info on XANDRIA shortly. 18

BLACK VEIL BRIDES: 'Unbroken' Lyric Video ReleasedThe official lyric video for the song "Unbroken" from Los Angeles theatrical rockers BLACK VEIL BRIDES, can be seen below.
Says the band: "October is Anti-Bullying Awareness Month, and to show our support to the ones negatively affected by bullying, we created the 'Unbroken' shirt. We compiled the photos we had [fans] send in of [them] wearing the shirts and turned it into the 'Unbroken' lyric video.
"Thank you for helping us raise awareness and to fight to stop bullying!"
Back in January, BLACK VEIL BRIDES vocalist Andy Biersack taped a two-minute public service announcement (PSA) for the Musicians Opposed To Bullying (M.O.B.) web site. The clip, in which the singer talks about self-injury or self harming — when a person deliberately hurts themselves physically to deal with the emotional pain they are suffering — can be seen below.
Released on June 11 via Lava/Republic Records, BLACK VEIL BRIDES' "Wretched And Divine: The Story Of The Wild Ones (Ultimate Edition)" features three previously unreleased tracks as well as a DVD of the band's "Legion Of The Black" movie that was screeneed prior to last year's release. There is also an Ultimate Black Box Edition that features all of the contents of the Ultimate Edition including the CD with alternate artwork plus three new songs, "Legion Of The Black" DVD, an expanded booklet and a solid black BVB rosary.
"Wretched And Divine: The Story Of The Wild Ones" sold 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 7 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on January 8 via Lava/Universal Republic, the CD was produced by by John Feldmann (PAPA ROACH, THE USED, ATREYU) and is a full-fledged concept effort. The cover artwork for the album was created by the band's longtime friend, artist Richard Villa. 1

SCORPIONS To Release 'MTV Unplugged' In NovemberThe greatest delight for the SCORPIONS fans, of which there are several million throughout the world, is the fact that there is no end in sight for the farewell world tour, even though this has been continuing for three years now.
SCORPIONS still are Germany's internationally most popular rock band ever in the history of music, and of the 38 countries where farewell shows are planned, only 23 have been covered to date. On top of this, the band has found the time and energy to bring to life a very special event: their first "MTV Unplugged" show. On September 11 and September 12, 2013, Klaus Meine (vocals, guitars), Rudolf Schenker (guitars, vocals), Matthias Jabs (guitars), Pawel Maciwoda (bass) and James Kottak (drums) played two fantastic acoustic sets in the Lycabettus theatre of Athens. The open-air theatre, which was designed by the Greek architect Takis Zenetos in 1965 — and thus is just the same age as the story of the SCORPIONS — is situated on Mount Lycabettus, at 300m height, and offers an impressive view of the Greek metropolis. But the spectacular scenery is not the only reason that convinced the SCORPIONS to choose Athens for the first ever open-air show in the history of "MTV Unplugged".
"When we were approached with the idea of playing an unplugged show, we immediately thought of Greece," Klaus Meine recalls. Matthias Jabs adds, "We have fabulous fans all over the world, but the Greeks are absolute die-hard fans." Concerning the choice of venue, the Lycabettus theatre, Meine explains, "We played here many years ago. It is a beautiful place. I can remember that even back then the fans climbed onto the surrounding rocks. Of course we played some of the greatest classics this time, but we also performed a few new songs as well as material that we had never played live up to then. Those are songs which are very popular with the fans but which somehow never made it onto the set lists."
More than ten years ago, the SCORPIONS had already played a few acoustic sets, the result of which, "Acoustica", was released on CD and DVD in 2001, with great international success. However, the current program, including a total of two dozen songs, is virtually completely different. First of all, we have the band's brand new songs, whose stunning live debut filled the audience with instant enthusiasm. Alongside "Dancing With The Moonlight" and "Rock'n'Roll Band", both of which can be easily imagined in perfect rock versions, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs presented one song each penned by every artist himself. The instrumental track "Delicate Dance" with Matthias Jabs as leader is based on guitar spheres which could easily settle in between the psychedelic glamour of PINK FLOYD and the boogie folk of LED ZEPPELIN. "Love Is The Answer" is a ballad for which Rudolf Schenker took over as lead vocalist — a feat that does not happen very often. And immediately after this, Klaus Meine surprises us with the world premiere of "Follow Your Heart", another power ballad destined for the charts.
The show is opened by "Sting In The Tail", arranged in Cajun style. This song, taken from the eponymous album of 2010, bears witness to how deeply the SCORPIONS are rooted in rock'n'roll and blues, virtually the topsoil and nurture of hard rock. The same applies to the set of classics that follow, such as "Pictured Life", "Speedy's Coming" or the hymnal "Born To Touch Your Feelings", in which the Greek actress Dimitra Kokkori surprises with a truly heart-wrenching spoken-word part. It goes without saying that the beautiful lady is not the only guest starring at this exceptional event. On the nights featured here, the five SCORPIONS can count on the relentless support of the Swedish musicians and producers Mikael Nord Andersson (guitars, mandolin, lap steel, vocals) and Martin Hansen (guitars, harmonica, vocals), who are also responsible for the arrangements made specifically for the "MTV Unplugged" show, and who also produced the latest SCORPIONS studio album.
Further Swedish support comes in the shapes of Ola Hjelm (guitars, vocals) and Hans Gardemar (keyboards, accordion, vocals), as well as from percussionist PiTTi Hecht from Hannover, who is renowned as one of the best percussionists in Europe. To round off this magnificent cast performing at the Lycabettus theatre, there is a string ensemble consisting of eight Greek ladies, whom Klaus Meine introduces as "The Strings from Heaven." Indeed, a truly heavenly performance is offered by Klaus Meine and Hamburg-based Cäthe with their version of "In Trance". Cäthe, who released her second album, "Verschollenes Tier", this summer, shows all her charisma in this true seventies classic. "Rock You Like A Hurricane", one of the most popular rock songs by the SCORPIONS, and frenetically applauded by the audience, features REVOLVERHELD's Johannes Strate as guest vocalist battling with Klaus Meine, and the ultimate world hit "Wind Of Change" offers a unique aha-experience in its own right when Morten Harket comes on stage for this encore.
Throughout its two and a half hours, the show captivates with its numerous intimate moments and infectious adrenaline rushes (such as during a percussion solo). And there are even more nuggets from the sheer endless stock of hits — such as "Still Loving You" and "Big City Nights", "No One Like You" and "When The Smoke Is Going Down" — as well as a few welcome surprises to dazzle the connoisseur. "When You Came Into My Life", where Rudolf Schenker plays a sitar, is one of those tracks which the SCORPIONS had never before played live, as are "Where The River Flows" and "Passion Rules The Game". In view of this unplugged marathon with the stunning emotional momentum it conveys, it is difficult to pinpoint single highlights, but what can be stated with certainty is that the SCORPIONS evidently enjoyed this musical rollercoaster ride through their own history. It is equally obvious that both rock songs and power ballads display their class and style even when rendered as acoustic versions. The melodies maintain their timeless compositional appeal and the quality of the performance proves time and again that the SCORPIONS are blessed — this time especially by the Greek gods, it seems.
Let us glance into the future: "MTV Unplugged" will be released in 50 countries and promises to be yet another success story in the sheer limitless SCORPIONS saga. Fans can also look forward to the documentary motion picture, "Big City Nights", by Katja von Garnier, whose band portrait will be shown in cinemas before it is later released on DVD.
"MTV Unplugged" by the SCORPIONS is released on November 29, available as double CD, DVD, Blu-ray and in various other digital and physical configurations.

KING'S X Frontman Dug Pinnick To Guest On New TOURNIQUET AlbumChristian metallers TOURNIQUET have announced that KING'S X singer/bassist Dug Pinnick will record vocals for one song on the band's new album, Onward To Freedom.
Tourniquet recently checked in with the following update:
"Legendary guitar genius Phil Keaggy is set to play a lead on Onward To Freedom! Where do we even start with Phil? He has released more than 50 albums and contributed to many more recordings in both the contemporary Christian music and mainstream markets. He is a seven-time recipient of the GMA Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year, and was twice nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album. He has frequently been listed as one of the world's top-three 'finger-style', as well as finger-picking guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine readers' polls. Above all, his humility is always evident: 'I can’t read a note,' he says. 'I can’t even read tablature; but I can read my fretboard. I can close my eyes and play by faith, and not by sight.'
Haha - now that's rock n roll!
Just a friendly reminder: none of this awesomeness will happen if the album isn't funded... we're getting there though - thanks! You can back the project here."

New SUICIDE SILENCE Singer: 'I Did Everything In My Power To Stay In ALL SHALL PERISH'Former ALL SHALL PERISH singer Hernan "Eddie" Hermida spoke to Metal Injection about his decision to join SUICIDE SILENCE as the replacement for the late Mitch Lucker.
Asked how SUICIDE SILENCE approached him to join the band, Hermida said: "At first, their manager contacted me and said, 'Hey, Ed, the guys are thinking about picking themselves up and would like to hear what someone else sounds like on a previously recorded track.' They said it was more for the reference than anything else. After I recorded the 'You Only Live Once' track, they liked it so much that we started exploring ways to make something work."
He added: "Mitch and SUICIDE SILENCE were always like a surrogate family to me so when they asked me to help with the track, I was honored. When they officially asked me if I'd be interested in joining the band, it definitely put me in a tough spot as I had many things to consider."
Regarding when he decided that he would have to do this full time and depart from ALL SHALL PERISH, Hermida said: "The full-time aspect for SUICIDE SILENCE was always part of the deal. Just know that I did everything in my power to stay in ALL SHALL PERISH and work both projects. The ALL SHALL PERISH boys will say that I quit when I decided to take the reigns in SUICIDE SILENCE. I will say that I was asked to step away by my bandmates because they didn't want my schedule with SUICIDE SILENCE to interfere with their future. Either way, ALL SHALL PERISH has my heart and soul built into it and I will always support the work we did together."
An audio snippet of the SUICIDE SILENCE song "You Only Live Once" featuring Hermida can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

ASKING ALEXANDRIA Singer To Take Break From Band To Tour With HARLOTAccording to The Pulse Of Radio, ASKING ALEXANDRIA frontman Danny Worsnop has revealed that he plans to take some time off from the up-and-coming British act to spend some time with his other band HARLOT. Worsnop said, "I'm gonna take a few months off from ASKING and tour HARLOT. It's gonna be a weird transitional period where I'm trying to figure out the right balance for the schedules." Worsnop also announced that he is working on a solo album, explaining, "The solo record's really kind of mellow. I wanna do like coffee shops before our shows."
But Worsnop has no intention of leaving ASKING ALEXANDRIA, telling Metal Hammer recently that he wants the group to be "the biggest band in the world."
Worsnop told The Pulse Of Radio that the key to the band's success is being true to themselves. "We don't care what anyone else is doing, we don't care what anyone's gonna think of it," he said. "If no one would've bought the record, I really don't care. I could not care less. I write my music for me. It's great that the fans enjoy it, but I just write what's inside, and I think that's why we are so different and stand out, because we're not trying to do what anyone else is doing, we're just trying to do us."
ASKING ALEXANDRIA has been on tour in the U.S. with KORN and next plays on Friday (October 25) in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The group's latest album, "From Death To Destiny", arrived in early August, landing at No. 5 on the Billboard album chart. The current single, "The Death Of Me", is a Top 20 contender on the Active Rock chart. 2

Concert Tribute For Rock Guitar Legend RONNIE MONTROSE Heading To DVDWhen Ronnie Montrose passed away on March 3, 2012, friends and musicians immediately wondered what they could do to pay homage to one of rock's all-time legendary — and influential — guitarists. The result was some of music's most renowned artists uniting for a concert only a month and a half later (April 27) and performing Ronnie classics throughout the evening — which will now make its official DVD release on December 10, 2013, "Concert For Ronnie Montrose - A Celebration Of His Life In Music".
Recorded in San Francisco at the historic Regency Ballroom and mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound, the DVD features performance by Ronnie's past band members in MONTROSE (Sammy Hagar, Denny Carmassi, Bill Church with Joe Satriani), GAMMA (Davey Pattison, Denny Carmassi and Glenn Letsch with Marc Bonilla), performing both groups' hits. Additionally, Ronnie's colleagues and people he mentored and produced over the 40 years of his career are featured as well, including Neal Schon (JOURNEY), Ricky Phillips (STYX), Steve Smith (ex-JOURNEY), Ed Roth, Jimmy Paxson (STEVIE NICKS), Jeff Watson (ex-NIGHT RANGER), TESLA, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer (KISS), Eric Martin (MR. BIG), and more. The DVD will also include interviews, bonus features, a photo gallery, and an additional set of Ronnie's hits by an all-star band featuring Chuck Terpo, Mario Cipollina, Tal Morris, Dave Meniketti and the members of Y&T. This was recorded and filmed at Bob Weir's TRI Studios.
A trailer can be viewed below.
The iconic and legendary Ronnie Montrose has been called the Father Of American Hard Rock — an innovator and an incendiary guitar genius. In his short time with VAN MORRISON, Ronnie created the iconic guitar riff for the classic song "Wild Nights". In the EDGAR WINTER GROUP, he left even a bigger mark with his catchy heavy-handed riffs on songs like "Free Ride" and "Frankenstein". But it would be his self-titled release, "Montrose", that would become the cornerstone of American hard rock. This debut in 1973 crafted such classics as "Rock the Nation", "Bad Motor Scooter" and "Space Station #5". It laid the groundwork and became the template for bands like VAN HALEN and countless subsequent musicians. His musical journey lead him to the creation of GAMMA where he crafted songs like "Voyager", "Thunder And Lighting" and "Ready For Action".
Ronnie was always searching and reinventing himself musically. Venturing through a brief instrumental period, he brought us both "Open Fire" and his masterpiece version of "Town Without Pity".

"We recorded this entirely on our own, on the road, in between shows while out on tour. If we couldn't find a quiet bedroom or bathroom to track in, we'd record while literally driving down the highway... The process wasn't easy. It wasn't slick. It wasn't normal. It didn't adhere to any set of rules, guidelines, or industry standards. At times it was painful... And we enjoyed every minute of it. So please, 'Enjoy The Pain' with us... and enjoy this EP." "Enjoy The Pain" track listing:

DREAM THEATER: 'Pull Me Under' Performance Clip From 'Live At Luna Park'On November 5, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release "Dream Theater: Live At Luna Park" on 2DVD, Blu-ray, visual digital formats and a deluxe edition. The deluxe edition is an 11.5" square 60 page hardback photobook containing the Blu-ray, 2 DVDs and 3 CDs presenting all the key physical formats in one release; the CDs are only available in this deluxe edition. These releases boast the 160 minute main show — accompanied by a wealth of bonus material — and feature many of the band's classic tracks, including "Metropolis Pt. 1", "The Silent Man", "Pull Me Under", "The Root Of All Evil", "The Test That Stumped Them All", "The Spirit Carries On" and the recent "On The Backs Of Angels".
DREAM THEATER began their mammoth "A Dramatic Tour Of Events" world trek in July 2011 with the final leg in South America taking place in August 2012. It was here at the Luna Park Arena in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that they decided to film the two nights that make up this DVD release. The "Live At Luna Park" band lineup for this show is James LaBrie (vocals); John Petrucci (guitar); Jordan Rudess (keyboards); John Myung (bass); and Mike Mangini (drums). This was DREAM THEATER's first tour and album with their new drummer and all the tracks from that album, "A Dramatic Turn Of Events", are included in either the main show or the bonus performances.
The bonus features offer live versions of six great tracks: "These Walls"; "Build Me Up, Break Me Down"; "Caught In A Web"; "Wait For Sleep"; "Far From Heaven"; and "Pull Me Under". Also on "Live At Luna Park" is a documentary, the trailer for the cinema release of the film, a "behind-the-scenes" feature and the cartoon intro that ran on big screens prior to the band taking to the stage in Buenos Aires. The Blu-ray additionally features six multi-angle options on "Outcry".
The "Pull Me Under" performance clip taken from "Live At Luna Park" can be seen below.
Roadrunner Records e-mailed guitarist John Petrucci and keyboardist Jordan Rudess to get their thoughts on these special shows.
Roadrunner Records: You played four songs with a string quartet over the two nights. Who did the arrangements?
Jordan Rudess: All the string parts were written by Eren Basbug, the young and talented Turkish musician that I discovered online through his beautiful orchestrations of DREAM THEATER's music and then his great work orchestrating and conducting the premiere of my own composition, "Explorations For Keyboard And Orchestra". For two of the songs we did live with the quartet ("Beneath The Surface" and "Far From Heaven") I had originally arranged and recorded quartet-like string parts from my keyboard, and that is what you hear on "A Dramatic Turn Of Events". Eren was able to take those two songs and really make sure what I wrote worked for real players, as well as add some nice touches! For the other two songs, "The Silent Man" and "Wait For Sleep", he created original quartet arrangements.
Roadrunner Records: How much rehearsal time did you have with the quartet?
John Petrucci: We played through each song with them a couple of times at soundcheck. We probably spent about an hour in total making sure they were comfortable and that they knew certain cues, etc.
Jordan Rudess: We had one rehearsal before the first show. I had sent all the music to coordinator Luis Gorelik (who is a well known conductor in South America) and he helped organize the players.
Roadrunner Records: How did their presence alter the way you guys in the band played those songs? Obviously they weren't just sawing away in the background; they were integral to the music, so…in what ways?
John Petrucci: Honestly, we played the songs just as we have been and they followed us. On "Beneath The Surface" and "Far From Heaven", they basically played the arrangements that are on the album. Original arrangements were created for "The Silent Man" and "Wait For Sleep".
Jordan Rudess: In our rehearsal, I was literally conducting them and we all worked quickly to get things into shape and make sure the players really understood the music and what was going to happen in the chain of events on stage. The good thing was that these four songs all really are totally suitable for real strings, so it was an easy conceptual/musical addition to our presentation.
Roadrunner Records: Other than the new album (which was played almost in its entirety each night), the albums you played the most material from were "Images And Words", "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" and "Awake". Why those albums, from your perspective?
John Petrucci: We try to create a show that has a certain curve to it. The way that it begins, unfolds and concludes are all carefully thought about. We have so much material at this point that it's difficult to fit in songs from each album. Based on what we played on past tours as well as the flow and arc of the show, we thought these were the strongest choices.
Jordan Rudess: There are so many factors that are in play to create a setlist. Generally, we all felt that we offered a night of music that was a well-balanced mixture of our material that not only spanned a lot of our albums but also flowed really well for the course of the evening.
Roadrunner Records: On the second night, you guys played "Pull Me Under" as the encore, which you've been playing a lot more on tour this year than in the past few years… but only outside the U.S. Is that a song foreign audiences want to hear more than fans at home?
John Petrucci: "Pull Me Under" always goes over, no matter what country we are in. It just has that kind of power and familiarity, I guess. We really thought that it sounded great with [new drummer] Mike Mangini playing it and wanted to share that with our listeners.
Jordan Rudess: I don't know — but I will tell you that they literally were trying to rush the stage in Buenos Aires when we played it. It was nuts! 14

PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS: Another Song From 'Housecore Horror' 10" EP Available For StreamingScion A/V is offering an exclusive PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS song download titled "Pigs Kissing Pigs". Check it out using the SoundCloud widget below. The single release celebrates the inaugural edition of Anselmo's Housecore Horror Film And Music Festival, which kicks off on Thursday in Austin, Texas and sees Scion A/V as the presenting sponsor. "Ugly Mug", another previously unreleased track from the band, was made available on Tuesday via MetalSucks, with both songs available at the festival as a limited-edition 10-inch. Anselmo (DOWN, PANTERA) and true crime author Corey Mitchell are curating the festival, explaining they wanted to provide horror and heavy metal fans a place to congregate amongst thousands of like-minded souls. The pair has amassed an amazing array of both established artists such as DOWN, GWAR, GOBLIN and the MELVINS alongside an impressive group of newcomers including PIG DESTROYER, PALLBEARER and WHITECHAPEL. The festival's film component is equally impressive with 35mm screenings of Jörg Buttgereit's "Nekromantik", Jim VanBebber's "Deadbeat At Dawn" and Coffin Joe's "At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul".
Anselmo's first-ever solo album, "Walk Through Exits Only", sold around 8,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart.
Produced by Anselmo and Michael Thompson, and recorded over the past couple of years at Philip's New Orleans studio, Nodferatu's Lair, with his band THE ILLEGALS — guitarist Marzi Montazeri (ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL) and José Manuel Gonzales — "Walk Through Exits Only" is abrasive, aggressive, anthemic and 100% Anselmo.
Asked why he felt the need to start another band outside of DOWN, Anselmo told The Washington Times: "If you look at DOWN, we're made up of three different bands, EYEHATEGOD and CROWBAR and whatever the fuck Pepper's [Keenan, guitar] doing, you know; he does a lot of different things. So, we have this flexibility of freedom and dead time is lame. Instead of starting some fucking other band, you know, branding it with a name and having to have people buy into a whole new name, this is something I wanted to do for the long term and something I can do long term because I don't want any other fucking projects. That's the beauty of having a solo band. I can really do what I want. So, 'Walk Through Exits Only' is one expression of music. We have another EP coming out in October that's really completely different than anything that I've put out. And then we're gonna get even more different and base it off the fuckin' mood I'm in, you know? Jesus, It could be an all-acoustic, spoon-playing, flute-playing fuckin', oh man, any type of fuckin' music. I can do it if I feel like doing it. The only two bands I'm in right now, tangibly that I'm going to be working with and putting out records with is DOWN and the solo band. So, it's easy." 5

It's Official: METALLICA To Rock AntarcticaCoca-Cola Zero presents "Música Zero", an artistic event that will enable METALLICA to perform their world-class music in Antarctica for the first time. Besides the concert by the mythic band formed by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo, this initiative offers their fans the chance to participate in a unique expedition to see the wonders of a place reserved for peace, international cooperation and science.
In order to be part of the trip, fans will have to participate in a contest that is being launched in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico, starting on October 28 and until November 22. Candidates will face the challenge of demonstrating what they would be willing to do to live this unprecedented experience and share it through Coca-Cola Zero's Twitter account (@CocaColaZeroAr) including the hashtag #CocaColaZeroAntartida.
The winners will leave on December 3 in a cruise from the port of Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, headed for Antarctica. During the 10-day journey, they will be able to enjoy the landscapes of this beautiful continent, participate in lectures to be provided by specialists, see audiovisual material on the work of the scientists and receive environmental information.
METALLICA's concert will take place in a site set up close to the heliport of the Carlini Argentine Base and will have a feature that will make it absolutely exceptional: it will be broadcasted to the audience through headphones. In addition, METALLICA fans of participating countries will be able to enjoy the live streaming from Antarctica through the webpage Coca-Cola.tv; Coca-Cola.fm.
Commented METALLICA: "After over 30 years as a band, we have been unbelievably fortunate to visit just about every corner of the earth . . . except for one. That is all about to change as we are set travel to Antarctica, the only continent that METALLICA has never played on until now!! We are partnering with Coca-Cola Zero for one of the most unique and special concert events in our career as we'll be performing near the heliport of the Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
"Latin American fans in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico will be able to enter a contest for the chance to win an Antarctic cruise that sails December 3-10 and will stop at Carlini. We'll be playing inside a dome on the base and in another twist, the show will be transmitted to the audience via headphones with no amplification . . . a real first for us! The show will also be streamed live for our friends in those Latin American countries who cannot join us at the base and filmed to share with everyone at a later date."
In addition, Coca-Cola Zero will donate equipment for the new laboratory at the Carlini base which concentrates the largest number of Argentinean scientific investigations and international cooperation. Coca-Cola Zero will likewise contribute to disseminate the marvels of this continent through a documentary and the entire "Música Zero" experience will be broadcasted previously and during the event.
The first and so far only rock concert ever performed in Antarctica took place on July 7, 2007 at British Antarctic Survey's Rothera Research Station, one in a series of Live Earth concerts that were held on the same day in all seven continents.
The science team's indie-rock house band NUNATAK performed as the lone act in front of only 17 people, although it was broadcast all over the world.
Emo rockers FALL OUT BOY were scheduled to perform in Antarctica several years ago, but the show was canceled due to bad weather.
The members of METALLICA have been out promoting the release of "Metallica Through The Never", the band's $18 million 3D IMAX movie that arrived in theaters nearly four weeks ago.
Antarctica is under the special stewardship of the Antarctic Treaty and various international forums which, among other aspects, contemplate the possibility of fostering cultural activities to create awareness on the importance of this continent, safeguard Antarctic biodiversity and as an example of international cooperation.
"Música Zero" has complied with the Environmental Impact Assessment developed by the Environmental Management Program and Tourism of the Argentine National Antarctic Directorate (Dirección Nacional del Antártico, DNA) according to the guidelines of the Antarctic Protection Protocol (Madrid Protocol). 32

WINDS OF PLAGUE: 'Sewer Mouth' Lyric Video ReleasedThe official lyric video for the song "Sewer Mouth" from Southern California metallers WINDS OF PLAGUE can be seen below. The track comes off the band's fourth album, "Resistance", which will be released on October 29 via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded with producer Will Putney, who has previously worked with SHADOWS FALL and SUICIDE SILENCE, among others.
WINDS OF PLAGUE bassist Andrew Glover tells Revolver magazine: "'Sewer Mouth' is a song about people who try so hard and go out of their way to be inspiring when, behind their veils and fronts, they are often worse human beings than those that they are trying to inspire and mold. In your lifetime, you have without a doubt come in to contact with this type of person, always talking up a storm of bullshit. To me, this song is kind of a 'we see you, but you’re not fooling anyone' message to those people."
Glover continues: "Our friend Vincent Bennett of THE ACACIA STRAIN was nice enough to help us out on this track. We knew when it was recorded that if we had something negative to say about frauds and fakes, Vincent probably had something to say, too."
"Resistance" track listing:
01. Open The Gates02. Say Hello To The Undertaker03. Sewer Mouth04. Left For Dead05. One Foot In The Grave06. Time To Reap07. United Through Hatred08. Good Ol' Fashion Bloodbath09. No Man Is My Master10. Snake Eyes11. Looking For A Better Day
WINDS OF PLAGUE last year parted ways with drummer Art Cruz due to creative differences. Sitting behind the kit during the studio sessions for the new album was Brandon Gallindo (ex-DEAD IN EXISTENCE).
WINDS OF PLAGUE will embark on a tour with BLEEDING THROUGH in early November.
WINDS OF PLAGUE's third full-length CD, "Against The World", sold 8,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 60 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on April 19, 2011 via Century Media Records, the effort featured guest appearances from members of HATEBREED, TERROR, FOR TODAY, STRAY FROM THE PATH and former world heavyweight wrestling champion and sports entertainment legend Ultimate Warrior (who performs an epic spoken-word track entitled "The Warrior Code"). 1

KORN: Video Recap Of First-Ever Visit To ChinaKORN played its first-ever concert in China on August 17 as part of the Sonic Shanghai 2013 festival.
A five-minute video recap of KORN's appearance at the event can be seen below.
KORN's 11th studio album, "The Paradigm Shift", sold 46,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 8 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on October 8 via Prospect Park.
"The Paradigm Shift" is the first KORN disc to feature original guitarist Brian "Head" Welch since 2003's "Take A Look In The Mirror" and follows up 2011's dubstep experiment, "The Path Of Totality". Frontman Jonathan Davis told The Pulse Of Radio that Welch's return on guitar was a good balance to Davis' own continued fascination with electronic music. "We wanted to make a record that everybody was happy with, and Head coming back, I think, was great, 'cause me and him butted heads. 'Cause he really is on the rock side and I was on the electronic side, and it was good having the compromise on both sides. It was just good for the creative process, I think."
Welch recently told Rolling Stone that the new album has "the old KORN vibe, but with a new twist . . . The end product is a really good mix of old KORN mixed with some new elements. It's got a fresh new KORN 2013 sound."
Welch left KORN in 2005 after he converted to Christianity and got off drugs. He rejoined them for a handful of live performances last year before officially becoming part of the lineup again in early 2013.
Davis recently revealed that he was dealing with personal issues during the early stages of the new disc, including his son being diagnosed with diabetes and his own struggle to kick an addiction to anti-depression medication.
KORN and ROB ZOMBIE will co-headline the "Night Of The Living Dreads" tour this fall. The 17-date run begins on November 3 in Reno, Nevada and wraps on November 26 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. 1

IMPENDING DOOM: 'Ravenous Disease' Song Available For Streaming"Death Will Reign", the new album from Southern California juggernauts IMPENDING DOOM, is due on November 5 via eOne Music. The CD was recorded, produced and mixed by Will Putney at The Machine Shop (SUICIDE SILENCE, LAMB OF GOD).
The song "Ravenous Disease" can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below.
"IMPENDING DOOM have never sounded uglier and more desperate than on 'Death Will Reign'," says Alternative Press.
IMPENDING DOOM has crafted a stunning, deliberate and unrelenting collection with a sense of purpose, drive and continuity. "Death Will Reign" is the culmination of all that has come before, mining the bleak darkness and "scare" factor of last year's "Baptized in Filth" and the dynamic fury of "There Will Be Violence" and "The Serpent Servant". All of those elements are injected with the return of the gritty rawness found within the unpolished grind of "Nailed. Dead. Risen", IMPENDING DOOM's squealing cult-classic debut that introduced the world to their unique combination of reverent worship and sick gore-core, dubbed Goreship. "We wanted this album to sound very natural and unpolished," explains IMPENDING DOOM's longtime bassist David Sittig, a part of the lineup since before the first album's release. "There's no crazy digital stuff. There are no fake drums. We wanted it to have the feel of our first album with the songwriting from the last one. We've gotten better at song structures and so forth over the years, but we wanted to recapture that old-school vibe, too."
IMPENDING DOOM's fourth full-length album, "Baptized In Filth", sold 4,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 106 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on March 13, 2012, the CD was produced by Andreas Magnusson (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, THE FAMINE) and was mixed by Machine, who has previously worked with LAMB OF GOD, SUICIDE SILENCE and DEMON HUNTER, among others.

Video Premiere: KVELERTAK Performs 'Bruane Brenn' Live At London's Electric BallroomProfessionally filmed video footage of Norwegian rockers KVELERTAK performing the song "Bruane Brenn" live at Electric Ballroom in London, England in March 2013 can be seen below. The track comes off the band's sophomore album, "Meir", which topped the official chart in Norway. The CD, which sold 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release, was issued on March 26 via Roadrunner Records. It was produced by CONVERGE's Kurt Ballou and features cover artwork by John Dyer Baizley.
Asked how the band came up with the concept for the "Bruane Brenn" music video, vocalist Erlend Hjelvik told About.com Heavy Metal: "It was Vidar [Landa, guitar] and Marvin's [Nygaard, bass] idea. I guess we didn't have time to be in the video ourselves, so they came up with an idea of having a bunch of kids in the video. A friend of ours, who's a Norwegian movie director, Stian Kristiansen, then kind of developed the idea and made a small story out of it. It turned into a fun and great looking video that fits really well with the lyrics."
Regarding the recording process for "Meir", Erlend said: "I thought it was even more fun than last time. Mostly because we've all gotten more confident and experienced from all the touring we've done on our first album. Also Kurt is an awesome guy to work with; he's professional and has a great ear for what things should sound like."
KVELERTAK will hit the road with HIGH ON FIRE in November. Support on the trek will come from DOOMRIDERS (Nov. 10 to Nov. 23), PACK OF WOLVES (Nov. 27) and WINDHAND (Nov. 29 to Dec. 12).

Video: CHRIS CORNELL Performs New Song 'Misery Chain'According to The Pulse Of Radio, SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell has contributed a new song called "Misery Chain", recorded with Joy Williams of THE CIVIL WARS, to the soundtrack of the new movie "12 Years A Slave", the new film that stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a free black man from upstate New York who is abducted and sold into slavery in the days before the Civil War. The film is based on the true story of Solomon Northrup and also stars Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti and others. Cornell said in a statement, "I was moved by this film and the story in a way that transcends any film experience I have ever had. I was inspired to write a hundred different songs, but finally landed on one based on what I believe is an extremely important message I took from this man's journey. Compassion, basic human rights and love must be our priorities above race, religion or commerce. Every generation needs a reminder of that simple idea."
The soundtrack, titled "Music From And Inspired By 12 Years A Slave", will be released digitally on November 5 and as a CD on November 19.
The movie played at several high-profile film festivals in late summer and early fall before opening in limited release on October 18. It expands into a nationwide release on November 1.
Cornell kicked off a fall North American tour of intimate, acoustic shows on October 15 in San Diego, California. He plays Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada on Friday (October 25).
The vocalist is performing songs from throughout his entire career, including first-time acoustic arrangements of tracks from SOUNDGARDEN's latest CD, 2012's "King Animal".
Fan-filmed video footage of Cornell performing "Misery Chain" on October 18 in San Francisco can be seen below. 2
