Christian metal veterans LIVING SACRIFICE will release their eighth studio album, "Ghost Thief", on November 12 via Solid State Records. The CD marks the Little Rock, Arkansas band's first release since returning from a multi-year hiatus with 2010's "The Infinite Order", an album that led Alternative Press to declare the band "back at full strength." Pop Matters called the band "masters of their craft," adding that "'The Infinite Order' is proof of why LIVING SACRIFICE is one of the most influential Christian metal bands of all time."

Running the extremes from blisteringly fast to mid-tempo thrash with groove to spare, "Ghost Thief" is a clinic on how a band with a 20-plus-year career can continue to make relevant metal. While the music stretches out sonically, the songs are held together thematically through one dark motif: the fleeting quickness of this life and the idea of an afterlife.

"'Ghost Thief' is a reference to the personification of Death," guitarist/vocalist Bruce Fitzhugh explains. "Depending on the circumstance, death can be greeted as an enemy or a friend. We have a few songs that deal with the suddenness and finality of death. 'Ghost Thief' and 'Sudden' both are inspired by people who died suddenly and unexpectedly. Friends of ours or family members that we were close to."

Produced by DEMON HUNTER's Jeremiah Scott, "Ghost Thief" marks the eighth studio album LIVING SACRIFICE has issued since 1989, when a teenage Fitzhugh and Lance Garvin (drums) first united with friend DJ Johnson and later Jason Truby, determined to create a metal band as musically uncompromising as the secular groups of the day with a positive lyrical message. Practically unheard of at the time and to many quite controversial, the result blew open doors and crossed preconceived boundaries with a mix of thrash and death metal across their first three albums.

The band went through natural shifts over the ensuing years, with some members going on to join bands like P.O.D. and EVANESCENCE. Through the years, however, the constants of Fitzhugh and Garvin, and then mainstays Rocky Gray (guitar) and Arthur Green (bass) since 1998, steered the ship, and LIVING SACRIFICE achieved its goal of helping Christian metal transcend its own boundaries to become something respected and admired throughout the metal realm — a fact evident today in the countless bands LIVING SACRIFICE has influenced. Eclipse Records have inked a digital distribution deal with German melodic death metallers SAPIENCY.

Their album, Tomorrow, will be released through digital outlets worldwide this November. Serving as the follow-up to the band's 2010 debut, Fate's End, Tomorrow was released on CD format in March on Saol Music. Tomorrow engages with absolute power and a more organic sound right from the first note, striking the perfect balance of melody and heaviness.

Virginia’s BLOOD OF THE MARTYRS released their second full length in their six year career, Completionist, on October 4th. Completionist, was self-released after their debut Once More, With Feeling was released on a small independent label. A new video for the album track 'Swifty' can be seen below.

On the release Bobby Huotari commented, “We feel that this album is much more developed. Swedish death/black metal one-man project PUTRIFIED will release the new mini-album Sacrilegious Purification on October 15th via Hellthrasher Productions. The follow-up to last year's Neurotic Necrotic, the album consists of six brand new tracks, combining raw death metal in the vein of the band's previous records with a bit of dense yet uplifting black metal, dealing with the themes of sacrifice, faith, spiritual death and the struggle of salvation through our flesh. Dead Trooper was formed in 2002 in Oslo, Norway, by Morten Müller (DEATH INJECTOR, TROLLFEST, METAL MILITIA, ex-GRIMFIST) and Birger Larsen (GROTESQUE HYSTERECTOMY, Metal Militia, Death Injector, ex-Grimfist). The release of the debut full-length album Cynisist in 2009 and the Sickening EP in 2010 earned the band critical acclaim from both fans and press. Today’s lineup combines impressive musical skills with an abundance of enthusiasm, charisma and high energy that produces what Dead Trooper themselves call “groovy, aggressive thrash metal”. The official Facebook page of the platinum-selling all-female '80s band VIXEN has been updated with the following message:

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of VIXEN founder and lead guitarist, Jan Kuehnemund, who lost a fierce battle with cancer on Thursday, October 10, 2013.

"Though most well known for her gifted guitar playing and other musical talents, Jan was a rare friend and beautiful in every sense of the word. Humble, thoughtful, loyal and kind, she was the most gracious of women, possessing the quiet strength of a true warrior. She genuinely loved and appreciated her friends and fans more than most could ever know. Those who were most fortunate to have known her and loved her are heartbroken at the loss of Jan, whose spirit will shine through her music eternally.

"Jan was very courageous. Never complained. Never gave up. The cancer beat her body but it NEVER broke her spirit at any point.

"Up until the actual moment that she died, she really believed she was going back home.

"Jan... you will be missed... but never forgotten."

Jan Kuehnemund was only 51 years old at the time of her death.

VIXEN's last studio album, "Live & Learn", was released in 2006.

The group, whose latest lineup featured Kuehnemund alongside Jenna Sanz-Agero (vocals), Lynn Louise Lowrey (bass), and Kat Kraft (drums), reformed several times, most recently in 2008, resulting in the live release "Live In Sweden", which arrived in 2009.

"Live & Learn" was VIXEN's first studio recording to feature Kuehnemund since 1990's "Rev It Up".

Kuehnemund reformed VIXEN in 2001 for the Voices of Metal tour with a lineup that had to be revamped 10 dates into the trek. Undeterred, with less than a month of rehearsals, the three new members successfully finished the run.

VIXEN's original members, Kuehnemund, vocalist Janet Gardner, drummer Roxy Petrucci and bassist Share Ross appeared together on VH1's "Bands Reunited" in October 2004 to reminisce about their start on L.A.'s Sunset Strip and their rise to fame in the late 1980s, before the onset of grunge in the early 1990s displaced metal at the top of the charts. They also took part in a short performance for the program.

Gardner, Petrucci and Ross are currently performing together in a new band called JANETSHAREROXYGINA. The group's lineup is rounded out by Gina Stile, who was the guitarist on VIXEN's "Tangerine" album.

In a statement on her Facebook page, Ross wrote: "Much more than simply a brilliant guitarist and amazing songwriter, Jan was one of the kindest souls you could ever hope to meet. She remembered everyone's birthdays and special occasions with gifts and was one of the most gracious women on the planet.

"Through her year-long battle with cancer, Jan was very courageous. She never complained and never gave up. The cancer beat her body but it never broke her spirit at any moment.

"For those of you who wondered why VIXEN never reunited, we actually did reunite.

"We had resolved our differences and were wholeheartedly looking forward to playing together again.

"In January 2013, only days before the announcement was to be made public, Jan was given her cancer diagnosis. She requested that we keep her illness private and out of respect for her wishes when press and fans asked us why we were not back together, we replied 'it's a matter of timing.' Since then we've been in regular contact with her and offered our loving support while continually hoping to make 2014 the year of VIXEN. However, it was not meant to be.

"Our condolences go out to her family.

"Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

"Jan, you will be missed. But never forgotten.

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."

In April 2013 interview with GuitarWorld.com, Ross stated about the formation of JANETSHAREROXYGINA: "We've been talking about getting back together as VIXEN for a while. I know some people think there are some big shenanigans going on, but the fact is we're all still friends with Jan. The timing just isn't right. So, we've decided to let go of the VIXEN thing for now and reached out to Gina. Out of respect for Jan, we're not going to call it VIXEN and instead calling it JSRG."

Rising within the UK’s electrifying metal scene of the late 80’s, INNER SANCTUM eventually found themselves at odds with the majority of their surroundings. While during their early years they embraced the popularity of the exploding thrash scene, but they simply were not content attempting to fit a mold of what that type of band should be. They grew more exploratory, stretching their creative wings and drifting further into much more progressive territories. Was this a calculated maneuver or a huge misstep on their part? History might suggest the latter, but these six demo tapes reveal a band embracing their enigmatic destiny and steamrolling headlong down the road less traveled.

The reissue of the demos will be a limited edition 2CD set with only 500 units pressed, new artwork, band supplied photos, full-color 12 page booklet, and new interview with band members.

LEADING THE BETRAYED - featuring THE AGONIST guitarist Pascal "Paco" Jobin - are gearing up to record some new material. Drummer Steve Lajeunesse has checked in with the following update:

"Working on some drum parts for Leading The Betrayed, and I am very happy with the material that we have for the record that we are preparing to deliver. Pre-production for 10-11 songs will begin in November, and I can't wait to get into a studio and record these songs!"

The band issued a previous update back in July:

"Some people have been asking 'When are we going to hear the vocals for LTB? Well, we have been working with a singer, and here is a sample of what Leading The Betrayed will sound like with vocals! It's just a demo, but this man sounds awesome. Can you guess who he is?!"

After the departure of longtime drummer Moe Carlson, Canada's PROTEST THE HERO enlisted LAMB OF GOD's Chris Adler to sit behind the kit for the recording sessions of the band's forthcoming album, "Volition". Now with extensive touring on the horizon, PROTEST THE HERO has decided to fill the slot permanently with Mike Ieradi.

Says the band: "Finding a new drummer has proven to be a tough task! We had interest and video submissions from many friends, fans, and family alike (yes, Choadie's mom sent in a video of her ripping 'C'est La Vie!'). Every single one of those submissions was wonderful — but we realized it was going to be impossible to select a drummer based on a YouTube video. We needed someone who we knew. Someone who we thought we wouldn't murder and leave at the side of the road two weeks into tour. We think we have found that person in Mike Ieradi — a Canadian fella we met many moons ago.

"What's that, you say? Mike is already in another band? Yes, he is. He will be playing in two bands on this upcoming tour. He will be opening with his band THE KINDRED and will then wrap the night up playing with us.

"Despite pulling double duty on this tour, he IS the newest member of PROTEST THE HERO and will hopefully be with us until we hang up the old jazz picks. No pressure, Mike!"

Adds Ieradi, "[I'm] happy to announce my new role in PROTEST THE HERO. I'm excited to be a full-blown member of a great band with some great friends, and looking forward to the future with these goons. PROTEST THE HERO's fourth studio CD, "Volition", will be released on October 29 (one day earlier internationally). The long-awaited follow-up to 2011's "Scurrilous" (Vagrant), "Volition" has been licensed to series of worldwide partners who will help distribute and market it to both traditional stores alongside digital service providers, thus making the new record available on a worldwide scale. PROTEST THE HERO and Razor & Tie will join forces for the United States, while the album will be released in Canada through Sony Music and in the rest of the word via Spinefarm.

UK heavyweight metal quintet HEART OF A COWARD have launched a live clip for the song 'Deadweight', from their performance at this year’s Download Festival.
The band recently released a lyric video for the song 'Nauseam', taken off their upcoming album Severance, due to be released November 4th in Europe and November 12th in North America.

The album was mixed at Machine Shop in New Jersey, USA, by Will Putney (SUICIDE SILENCE, THY ART IS MURDER, DEMORALISER).

Dutch blackened metallers ONHEIL have released the cover and tracklisting for their upcoming album, Storm Is Coming, the follow-up to their album Razor (2009). The album is currently being mixed and mastered by Bart Hennephof (TEXTURES) and Yuma van Eekelen (ex-PESTILENCE) at the Final Focus Studios. The release is set for early 2014 via Cyclone Empire.
Singer/Guitarist Amok comments: "Like most bands, we always want to make our new album the best one. But as the reception of our previous album Razor was amazing, that was one fuckin' tough job to do! We took the sound of Razor as the blueprint and then injected it with even more power and dynamics! You will hear that in our riffs and drumming! Besides that we gave a bit more room for classic heavy and thrash metal influences and with that created more contrast with our blasting black and death metal. That resulted in an unique blend that is the Onheil sound. We needed some time to do it, but we believe we succeeded in making a great follow-up album! Let's hope the metal world agrees! ANNIHILATOR's 14th studio album, "Feast", sold around 800 copies in the United States in its first week of release.

In a recent interview with Ghost Cult Magazine, ANNIHILATOR guitarist/mainman Jeff Waters stated about "Feast": "As an artist, you're sometimes lucky when it all comes together, be it painting, singing or whatever. Sometimes you want to do something good and when you're busy with it, you seem to hit the nail on the head. When you listen back, it doesn't contain your best work. Sometimes it just works. Bands like IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, SLAYER and also we in ANNIHILATOR have great records and we have our share of not-so-good records. Different times, different places, you know. Maybe we were lucky with 'Feast' and maybe we were inspired. A lot of it comes from that my partner in ANNIHILATOR, singer/guitarist Dave Padden, said that we should take a break for three years from writing music and focus on other things. We did a lot of touring, I worked in my studio, give guitar clinics for Gibson and Epiphone and we played the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise, all these cool things. The break breathed a lot of new life in the ANNIHILATOR music and that's probably where a lot of the inspiration came from."

Asked how his working relationship with Dave Padden has developed over the years, Waters told Ghost Cult Magazine: "When Dave came in 2004, he was just 'another' singer. We had a lot of different singers and musicians in the band throughout the years. Looking back, every singer was good for the time they were in the band and without them things would have been much different. When Dave joined the band 10 years ago, things were different, because he was a guitar player and not really known as a singer. When he auditioned, I really liked the versatility of his voice, so I decided to give him a chance. I stuck with him and worked with him long enough to see him developing into a killer guitar player and singer live. He's a very talented guy. He came from being scorned and criticized to becoming an integral part of some of our best albums. After four or five years, I realized he became more of a partner and I start phoning him to ask for his input on touring, equipment and endorsement deals. So we're half a band nowadays; you get two out of four. [laughs]"

Danish metallers ILLNATH have called it quits following the departure of guitarist Peter Falk.

Falk says in a statement: "I have experienced many things since 1997 when ILLNATH played our first tunes. As the only founding member since then, I have always had a strong belief in the band. Nothing has been able to overshadow the will and energy to work forward and fight for things.

"I am 37 years old now and I have gained a more nuanced view of things. In the recent years, my personal musical preferences moved in a somewhat different direction than melodic extreme metal, and I feel that now is the time for a change.

"I regret nothing in my time with ILLNATH and I have had many great experiences with the band, but my heart does not live and breathe for this band anymore.

"Given that neither Dennis [Stockmarr, drums], Kenneth [Frandsen, bass] or Marika [Hyldmar, vocals] feel that it is the right thing to continue ILLNATH without my participation, we have decided to call it a day.

"Instead of focusing on the sad aspect of ILLNATH stopping, I encourage our fans to focus on the good things ILLNATH, after all, has brought to the world through the nearly 20 years as an active band.

"I will still be working on my solo project LEADFREAK and Marika will be working in her black metal band MACHIAVELLIAN.

"We all hope to see you guys around through other musical aspects, and last but not least we would like to thank you all for the years of support and dedication towards the band, you have been our rock through it all. We sincerely thank you."

Norwegian female-fronted metallers TRIOSPHERE have issued the following update:

"Since our European tour with KAMELOT last November, things have been a little quiet from the TRIOSPHERE camp, but that's only on the outside! On the inside, it's been put down hundreds of hours of work and finalizing of the material for our long-overdue third album, so it's with great joy and pride we can announce that the recording of it has begun! The drums are already finished, and Ida [Haukland, vocals/bass] is next to put down the bass before Marius [Silver Bergesen] and T.O. [Byberg] embark on the guitars. Due in North America on October 22, "Aftershock" was recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, California and is described in a press release as "a true leveler, a crushing confirmation of everything MOTÖRHEAD stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see MOTÖRHEAD in perhaps their best writing form for years. There's swagger, there's punch, there's speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that MOTÖRHEAD is not simply a band, it's a genre!"

MOTÖRHEAD canceled a handful of shows on its European festival tour in August after Lemmy suffered a haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel). The news of Lemmy's latest medical issue followed reports that he was also recently fitted with a defibrillator because of heart problems.

"Kingdom Of Demons", a brand new song from the Paraguayan metal band RUSHMORE, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below. Making a guest appearance on the track is former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno.

In 2008 RUSHMORE was the band that supported Di'Anno on his Latin American tour.

After a lot of negotiations, RUSHMORE was finally able to get their old friend to collaborate with them on their new album.

Due to a number of health issues, including a knee problem which will require surgery soon, Di'Anno announced in July 2012 that he would stop touring in 2013.

Di'Anno recorded two classic albums with IRON MAIDEN before being fired and replaced by Bruce Dickinson. He went on to front a number of other bands, including KILLERS and BATTLEZONE, and released several solo records.

On October 10, Brazilian/American metallers SEPULTURA performed live in the studios of the Brazilian TV show "Metrópolis", which airs on TV Cultura. The band played the songs "The Age Of The Atheist" and "Da Lama ao Caos" (a CHICO SCIENCE & NAÇÃO ZUMBI cover, featuring guitarist Andreas Kisser on lead vocals). "The Age Of The Atheist" and "Da Lama ao Caos" are featured on SEPULTURA's new album, "The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart", which will be released on October 25 via Nuclear Blast Records. Although it was inspired by Fritz Lang's classic 1927 movie "Metropolis", the CD, "The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart" is not a concept album or a soundtrack like its precedessors "Dante XXI" (based on "The Divine Comedy") and "A-Lex" (based on "A Clockwork Orange").

"The Mediator Between The Head And Hands Must Be The Heart" was tracked over a 40-day period at producer Ross Robinson's (KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, SLIPKNOT) studio in Venice, California and is being mixed and mastered by co-producer Steve Evetts, who previously worked with SEPULTURA on the "Nation" (2001), "Revolusongs" (2002) and "Roorback" (2003) albums, in addition to having collaborated with Ross on a number of other projects in the past.

SEPULTURA recorded a total of 14 songs for the follow-up to 2011's "Kairos", including a cover version of DEATH's "Zombie Ritual". The CD will also feature a guest appearance by former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo. In a recent interview with JacksonGuitars.com, Kisser stated about the direction of the new SEPULTURA album: "I write stuff all the time — riffs or ideas on an acoustic guitar. But we really started working on this album in February of this year, so it was pretty quick. We have Eloy Casagrande as our drummer, and he's 22 years old. The guy's a beast. One of the best drummers I've seen on the planet Earth. He has this metal blood that has so much energy and brings so many possibilities for riffs and stuff like that. It is a SEPULTURA album, but like every SEPULTURA album, there is something different. I think the main difference now is the drummer. It's the first time we've worked in the studio with him. It's been almost two years [since the last album], and it's very exciting."
