Los Angeles death metallers ANNIHILATED will enter Trench Studios in Corona, California later this month to record the beast of brutality that will be "13 Steps To Ruination". Set for release via their new label home of Unique Leader Records, the CD will be produced by drummer Scott Fuller (ABYSMAL DAWN). Drums will be recorded by producer/engineer John Haddad (ABYSMAL DAWN, EXHUMED, INTRONAUT). Comments the band: "We think this is our heaviest, and catchiest stuff we've written with a very real and intense message we think people will really dig it."

ANNIHILATED was formed by guitarists Eric Matranga and Robert Fimbres in 2008, shortly after the breakup of the L.A. death metal band EXCRETION. They began to create songs with a sense of purpose as an outlet for their vital message to promote rational thinking and freely question what's being told to us through the press and new media outlets.

In 2012, drummer Scott Fuller (ABYSMAL DAWN) joined the group with the same values and ideologies. Helping to succeed their musical purpose, he added a new dimension of percussive flavor and syncopation to the music. Shortly after, they recruited Martin Rygiel (ex-DECAPITATED) to lay down the bass tracks on their EP, "Injected". North American metallers ICED EARTH will release their new album, "Plagues Of Babylon", for a January 2014 via Century Media Records. The cover artwork was created and illustrated by Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, ATHEIST, SIGH, ANACRUSIS, GWAR).

Speaking to Metal4 magazine at the Rockharz open-air festival in Germany in July, Schaffer said about the upcoming CD: "It's a bit of a different thing for us, because it's half of a concept and the other half is [standalone] tracks. Musically, I think it's just another step in the right direction. It's really heavy, it's very melodic. It has a really epic feeling. Even though there isn't, like, a monster, long epic track, the overall feel of the songs is very epic. I mean, there's no 'Dante's Inferno' or 'Gettysburg' or the 'Something Wicked' trilogy or something like that on here, but I'm really happy with it."

ICED EARTH recently parted ways with drummer Brent Smedley for "personal family reasons." He has since been replaced by Raphael Saini (CHAOSWAVE).

ICED EARTH has been hitting it relentlessly, with the recent studio album, "Dystopia", being the most toured album in the band's illustrious history.

One of the many highlights of the "World Dystopia Tour", a headline show at the historic Kourion Amphitheatre in Cyprus, was recently released on Blu-ray, DVD and in many other formats under the title "Live In Ancient Kourion".

"Dystopia" was released in October 2011 via Century Media Records. The CD marked the band's recording debut with singer Stu Block (INTO ETERNITY), who joined ICED EARTH in March 2011 following the departure of Matt Barlow.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the voice of JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford wil be featured in an episode of the animated series "The Simpsons", set to air sometime next year. The episode will also star Will Arnett, director Judd Apatow, and his frequent costars Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen.

Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman tells Entertainment Weekly that in the episode, titled "Steal This Episode", Homer is taught by Bart how to illegally download films, and he starts screening them in his backyard for folks in Springfield. "Even though Homer is stealing, he's doing it for the community, he’s doing it out of the goodness of his heart," says Selman. An overzealous FBI director in charge of anti-piracy subsuqently goes after Homer, and Halford winds up singing a parody of the JUDAS PRIEST classic "Breaking The Law" in an effort to nab Homer.

In 2002, Halford had a small film role as a pornographic video store clerk in "Spun", a crime comedy-drama dark-comedy directed by Jonas Åkerlund, who has helmed music videos for some of the biggest pop and rock artists in the world. Rob told Screamer Magazine earlier this year: "I had a fantastic opportunity to work on that 'Spun' movie with Mickey Rourke. And to watch Mickey Rourke, I just don't know how he does it. He just switches it on, and he's a different person almost. That's the great challenge that these actors have. It's not easy, but these actors make it look easy because they are so good at what they do."

Given a chance to act again, Halford said that he would certainly consider it. "I never say no to anything," he said. "I think if you do, you don't know what you've missed. I think you should try everything in life. If it doesn't work out, then at least you can say you've tried it. There's nothing worse than having regrets. If life affords you an opportunity and you can go for it, then you should."

Leisure time does not seem to exist for German metal queen Doro Pesch, as she is once again about to face an event-packed schedule shuffling between two worlds: the music business and the movie industry. After laying down vocals in early October in Hamburg, Doro took off to the Swiss mountains this past week to finish working on the sequel to "Anuk - Way Of The Warrior', where she will star as the warrior Meha, who is fighting dark rivaling hordes with her mountain people in 2,500 BD.

Doro has since gathered her band for a final rehearsal prior to the upcoming Germany tour, which starts October 12 in Munich. A relaxed Doro comments: "I am looking forward to [seeing] my fans, especially since we're celebrating our 30th stage anniversary on this tour. And the making of the movie was just great. In one scene, I had to bite off an enemy's ear. Afterwards you can see my face covered with a blood. Looks really tough, but it was so much fun to do this movie. I also love those scenes when I'm surrounded by horses and dogs." The new "Anuk" film will be released in late 2014 and the accompanying soundtrack will include songs from Doro's most recent output, "Raise Your Fist In The Air". Doro states: "For me, the song 'Free Your Heart' fits the film perfectly." "Raise Your Fist" sold 585 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 65 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Dutch symphonic metal band EPICA celebrated its 10th anniversary with a one-night-only event, dubbed "Retrospect", on March 23 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The band was accompanied by the seventy-piece Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Miskolc National Theatre Choir, playing an unforgettable three-hour best-of set. According to respected Dutch newspaper the Volkskrant, "The band wrote a chapter of Dutch metal history" this evening. Rock Tribune (Belgium) thought it was "an unforgettable show." In a recent interview with Metal Covenant, DEATH ANGEL guitarist Rob Cavestany stated about "The Dream Calls For Blood": "The title is basically our motto. It's what we're talking about, you know. In our point of view the dream being our band and keeping the band going and making music for your life. The blood is all the sacrifice and all hard work that goes into it and that's the metaphor for that. It's not only meant for music. It's also meant for other people to relate in their own life and goals that they're trying to achieve and the sacrifices that it takes to achieve these goals. And along with that, there's also a tinge of aggression in there about other people that cut corners and don't quite go through all the steps it takes to achieve the goal the right way. So there's a little bit of a middle finger to those people that go about it that way and don't fully respect what it takes."

California thrashers HIRAX will release a new digital single on November 22.

"Hellion Rising" was produced by Bill Metoyer (SLAYER, ARMORED SAINT, W.A.S.P., SACRED REICH) and recorded at Skull Seven Studio in North Hollywood. This four-minute thrash attack with a cover drawn by Maggot Meister (All Things Rotten) will give you the first hint what you can expect from HIRAX's new studio album, "Immortal Legacy", which will be released on March 4, 2014 (February 24 in Europe) via SPV/Steamhammer.

"Immortal Legacy" contains "14 new raging thrash metal songs that will make you bang your head," according to HIRAX singer Katon W. De Pena. He adds: "This is our most epic-sounding record to date, sonically powerful and over the top." The CD features guest appearances by Jim Durkin (DARK ANGEL), Juan Garcia (AGENT STEEL, EVILDEAD) and Rocky George (SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, FISHBONE).

1984 saw the long-awaited reunion of the classic DEEP PURPLE Mark II lineup of Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice. CIVIL WAR — the Swedish metal band featuring former SABATON members Rikard Sundén (guitar), Daniel Mullback (drums), Daniel Mÿhr (keyboards) and Oskar Montelius (guitar) alongside singer Patrik Johansson (ASTRAL DOORS, LION'S SHARE) and bassist Stefan "Pizza" Eriksson (VOLTURYON) — is working on material for its sophomore album. Swedish occult rockers GHOST will release a covers EP, "If You Have Ghost", on November 19 via Loma Vista Recordings. The five-track EP was recorded and produced by Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS, NIRVANA), and includes cover versions of songs by ROKY ERICKSON, ABBA, ARMY OF LOVERS and DEPECHE MODE, plus a live version of the GHOST offering "Secular Haze", recorded in Brooklyn earlier this year. Outside North America (with the exception of Scandinavia), Spinefarm Records will be the new releasing partner for Loma Vista on all GHOST recordings, including the new EP and previous album. Spinefarm releases are distributed through Caroline/Universal in all territories, including the U.K., where a November 18 date has been confirmed for the release of "If You Have Ghost"; the EP release date in other territories will vary slightly. GHOST recently travelled to the U.S. to join AVENGED SEVENFOLD and DEFTONES for the "Hail To The King" tour; these dates — which run until October 26 — mark the band's first proper U.S. outing since their "Haze Over America" trek earlier this year. GHOST also appeared at various music festivals across the U.S. this summer, including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Rock On The Range. In Europe, meanwhile, GHOST will join forces with ALICE IN CHAINS for a run of dates that start in the U.K. on November 9, before heading across to mainland Europe.

"Infestissumam" sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 28 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The CD topped the official chart in the group's home country after selling nearly five times as many copies as the No. 2 album, MISS LI's "Wolves".

In a recent interview with ARTISTdirect, a nameless ghoul from GHOST said about "Infestissumam": "It feels way more theatrical and bombastic. In many ways, 'Infestissumam' is thematically a continuation of where [the debut album] 'Opus Eponymous' began. Whereas a lot of the thematic ideas we have in mind for upcoming albums might differ a little bit and will go in another direction. That's not to say we won't sing about the things we do and not have makeup. I'm just saying it will evolve into other things in the future. On this record, I feel like we're doing a lot of things we intended to do on the first naïvely being we could pull off a show like that at that point — which we couldn't. Now, we have a little bit more muscle. The attendance is probably more in accordance with being able to present a show like that."

Regarding the lyrical themes covered "Infestissumam", the nameless ghoul said: "Thematically we knew the major difference between the first and the second albums as much as we do between the second and the third. It's a bit ironic now. Jumping up to the contemporary controversy with our album artwork and the refusal of printers to print the art is funny because the whole record is about the presence of the devil. Obviously, it's about how mankind relate to the presence of the devil. Historically, it's always been the female body that has taken the fall for that, which is what happened in this case. The problem was a vagina in the art not the inverted crosses."

GHOST was forced to modify its name in the U.S. to GHOST B.C. for "legal reasons."

METALLICA's Lars Ulrich has acknowledged in a new interview with U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine that the band's next studio album is unlikely to arrive before 2015 at the earliest. The drummer explained: "Obviously, there are a lot of people asking where the next record is. We're going to make another record, but like I said before, we don't really feel this kind of… what's the word? I guess 'responsibility' is probably the right word. We don't feel this inherent responsibility to just churn out records whenever people want them. [Adopts a sarcastic voice] 'I'm sorry! Let me slap myself on the wrists and go make a record for you!' We'll get 'round to it again."

Asked about a possible release date for METALLICA's next CD, Ulrich replied: "Actually, we know the date… no, we don't! If I was betting on this, I would say 2015 — that's where my money is. So if you think of the actual age of this planet, if it's been 75 billion years since dinosaurs walked the Earth or whatever, then one year is basically a blink of an eye, right?"

Ulrich also spoke about METALLICA's mindset going into the songwriting phase for the band's next album. He explained: "The only thing I can tell you is that there seems to be a consensus in the band that [2008's] 'Death Magnetic' was a really good record that we're proud of, that had good legs on it — meaning that it still sounds really rocking five years later. And I can tell you that with most of the previous METALLICA records, I found any faults, I had any issues with them way, way sooner than five years. So the stuff that we've been jamming on is certainly not a million miles removed from where we left off from 'Death Magnetic'. But two years from now, when I sit and talk to you about the new record, it'll probably be a different story from the six-year-old looking for the ice cream shop."

According to Lars, there is no shortage of ideas for METALLICA's next CD, with the guys having met up twice in the last six months to cook up some tasty riffs in the studio.

"We have more riffs than we know what to do with," Ulrich said. "We talked about setting up a special riff thing, where maybe we could share some of these riffs with others, like an eBay kind of thing for leftover riffs. Some of them are actually quite decent, but we won't be able to use all of them."

METALLICA frontman James Hetfield told The Detroit News that the band will probably not begin working in earnest on a new album until next spring. The singer/guitarist explained: "We want to make a record, that's what we do best and that's what we've gotta do in springtime. We've got skeleton bones that we're starting to lay out to make something out of it, but there's a lot of work ahead of us that we're really excited about doing. And that will be next year."

METALLICA has been touring for the past couple of years, in addition to launching two editions of its Orion Music + More festival and filming its new 3D IMAX movie, "Metallica Through The Never", which opened on September 27.

Meanwhile, Ulrich told a San Francisco radio station last month that the band has something coming up in December that will surprise fans, calling it "another frontier . . . which we're very excited about."

MEGADETH will take part in remembering a country music legend. The band is among the latest additions to the upcoming tribute concert honoring the late Country Music Hall of Famer George Jones.

MEGADETH will contribute a performance of Jones' song "Wild Irish Rose". MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine admits the song "may be an unexpected choice," given Jones' extensive catalog of hits. But he says the 1998 single is "a perfect example of Jones' way of reaching inside every one of us, and making us aware that we all have pain."

MEGADETH is part of an extensive and primarily country music lineup for the event, dubbed "Playin' Possum! The Final NO Show". Kid Rock and R&B star Sam Moore are also on board for the concert, along with Charlie Daniels, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, and many, many more.

The sold-out show will take place at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on November 22.

After a successful campaign last year for Record Store Day, Canadian rock legends RUSH are again partnering with independent retail for an exclusive 10-inch picture disc for Black Friday — November 29. IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris has dropped almost one million pounds from the asking price of his eight-bedroom mansion in Essex.

Harris put his English country house on the market a year ago for £6,750,000 (approximately $10,778,000), but that price has come down by £0.9 million to £5,850,000 (approximately $9,341,000).

The fall shows, dubbed "Evening In Hell", were an all-new production and the band pushed its own envelope once again. The production was designed exclusively for The Joint in partnership with AEG Live and saw the band performing in front of just 4,000 people per show max, a far cry from the arenas MÖTLEY CRÜE is accustomed to playing.

"It's a completely different show than we did last time," MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx told Revolver magazine. "It's a different way of doing a rock concert for us. Last time we went in there, we did something really unique and different , so we wanted to do the same thing. We didn't want anyone to see us the second time in Vegas and say it was the same as the first time. It was important for us to change it around."

Regarding the setlist for MÖTLEY CRÜE's Las Vegas shows, Nikki said: "When you're a band that's been around for 30 years, you have a large catalog of music. It's an interesting place to be, because you can go real deep on albums, but in general, when we do that too much, we get complaints from fans that they're not hearing all the hits. So it's a struggle for us in the amount of time you have to play between playing fan favorites, the hits and digging around and playing some new stuff and some stuff we haven't played in a long time. But I think we've struck a good balance."

U.K.-based avant-garde metal outfit CODE will release its third album, "Augur Nox", on November 19 in Europe and November 26 in North America via Agonia Records.

"Augur Nox" is the first album featuring CODE's new lineup of Aort, Wacian, Syhr, LORDt and Andras. The brand-new material demonstrates the band's fresh personnel in a vivid light, confirming CODE's position as a radiant gem in the extreme metal world. It displays a multifaceted approach: from stunning wide-ranging vocals, otherworldly clean passages, and barbed metallic riffery, all filtered through a refined prism of avant-garde black metal. The follow-up to 2009's "Resplendent Grotesque" (nominated for a Spellemann award in the "Best Metal Album" category) will be available in digipack, limited vinyl and digital formats. The vinyl formats include: black vinyl, color in color vinyl (bone white/ultra clean) limited to 100 copies and a further 100 copies on swamp green/ultra clean color in colour vinyl.

Norwegian metallers TOMORROW'S OUTLOOK have posted another sample from their upcoming album featuring PRIMAL FEAR singer Ralf Scheepers.
The band says: "Please bear in mind this is only rough pre production stuff, and the footage in this video is not from the latest session with Ralf, it's actually from when he tracked the vocals for another song called 'Within The World Of Dreams'. This is why his vocals doesn't match the video. We are very satisfied with the three songs Ralf recorded with us for our upcoming album. We are also extremely happy with the song writing this time and the new and forthcoming album should be a major step from our debut album which was released through the Australian label Battlegod Productions last year."

Tomorrow's Outlook also recently posted some rough footage from the studio off Tom Mallicoat recording vocals for their upcoming album. The vocalist from the acclaimed american heavy metal band LETHAL will be singing lead vocals on track 4 which is called 'A Voice Unheard'.
The band stated: "We are thrilled to work with one of our all-time favourite vocalists for our forthcoming CD. Programmed which was the debut album of Tom's band Lethal is a true masterpiece and definitely among our all-time favourite releases. What is so cool is that Tom is still the amazing singer he was back in the days. He hasn't lost a bit of his voice actually. Still the same power and amazing range. We are working with the best vocalists in the industry, and even if Tom hasn't really recorded anything the last 10 years or so, he can still stand toe to toe with the best. No doubt!"

The upcoming and yet untitled Tomorrow's Outlook CD, which is a concept album, is scheduled for an early 2014 release through the Australian label Battlegod Productions.

German guitarist Alex Beyrodt (PRIMAL FEAR) has completed work on the first SILENT FORCE studio album in nearly seven years, Entitled "Rising From Ashes", the follow-up to 2007's "Walk The Earth" will be released on December 13 via AFM Records.

"Walk the Earth" was released in Europe in February 2007 via AFM Records (the CD was issued in the U.S. in May 2008 via Locomotive). The German label has also reissued the band's first two albums — "The Empire of Future" (2000) and "Infatuator" (2001). "The Empire of Future" contained an acoustic version of the song "Saints And Sinners" as a bonus, while "Infatuator" included a bonus live video of the title track.

2011's "ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP" contained covers of tracks from SKID ROW, LADY GAGA and GUNS N' ROSES. Singer Lzzy Hale told The Pulse Of Radio that recording other artists' songs helps her own writing. "There's just nothing like singing and playing and picking apart an already proven amazing song," she said. "I think it helps you as a songwriter. I'll write a song and be like, 'Well, is that as good as HEART's 'All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You', and I'll have to be like, 'No, back to the drawing board.'"

HALESTORM is currently touring Europe and will be back in North America in November.

After a 10-year hiatus, TAD MOROSE will release its seventh album, "Revenant", on November 20 via Despotz Records. The CD was recorded at Claustrophobic Studio in Gävle, Sweden.

The new TAD MOROSE single, "Millenium Lie", will be released on October 20. A teaser can be streamed below.

"TAD MOROSE is a band that I've followed since my teenage days," said Despotz founder Ömer Akay. "They have their unique sound of melodic power metal and a touch of prog metal.

MOTÖRHEAD was forced to cancel a handful of shows on its European festival tour in August after the band's frontman, Lemmy, suffered a haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel). The news of Lemmy's latest medical issue followed reports that he was also recently diagnosed with diabetes and had a defibrillator fitted because of heart problems.

In the cover feature of the latest edition of U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine, MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee said: "I think after all [Lemmy has] been through, I'd say this: 'Lem, when are you going to get sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? It's time you started to take care of yourself.'"

Lemmy, however, downplayed his heath scare, telling Classic Rock of his hospital stint: "It was nothing; I'm over it."

The 67-year-old added: "I can still stand at that mic every night and play my songs. I'm getting better. By the time the tour comes around I'll be ready."

Lemmy also revealed that if it comes to the point he can no longer hit the road, "We plan to go on. Maybe we'll just make albums. We'll be like THE BEATLES after 1966."

In an interview last year, Lemmy told Billboard MOTÖRHEAD was looking forward to the 40th anniversary of the band's formation in 2015.

"We'll probably all stand in a line and let our heads explode. We'll think of something; we always do — probably involving naked women or something," he quipped.

MOTÖRHEAD's new studio album, "Aftershock", will be released in North America on October 22.

Southern California's female-fronted hard rockers IN THIS MOMENT have just released the official lyric video for their latest single, "Whore". Check it out below.

While "Whore" has been getting traction at radio stations across the country, it was more important for the band to create a message that conveys the true intent behind the use of the "whore" word. Singer Maria Brink created the term Women Honoring One Another Rising Eternally to give new meaning away from the derogatory connotation of the "whore" word.

"I am so proud and excited for the world to hear 'Whore'. This is an honest and raw movement that needs to be heard!" exclaims Brink.

"The message behind this song is taking back control. It is about taking the power from a disgusting and degrading word and turning it back around on the accuser. It's about self-empowerment, love, and liberation."

The imagery the band has created around the release of "Whore" is just as provocative as the word itself, yet all goes back to the important message the band has created. Brink explains: "I decided to pose nude for the visual art for 'Whore' to evoke a raw vulnerable emotion. The word 'whore' written down my back, and the dunce cap symbolize me placing myself on the stake for those who are suffering and I can only hope to encourage at least one person to find the self worth and love they deserve to transcend out of a painful situation into a beautiful one. It is about finding our power and taking a stand.
