On September 3, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release "The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert" on a triple DVD set, as an SD Blu-ray — with upscaled standard definition original material with uncompressed stereo and DTS-HD surround sound for the best possible quality — and digital. This release boasts newly remastered sound across both sections of the concert and represents the first time the opening acts' performances have been made available on DVD or Blu-ray.

On April 20, 1992, Roger Taylor, Brian May and John Deacon, the surviving members of QUEEN, took to the stage at Wembley Stadium for the start of one of the biggest events in rock history, which the band had organized to pay tribute to their former colleague — the incomparable Freddie Mercury. QUEEN were joined by some of the greatest musical talent in the world to celebrate Freddie's life and work and to increase public awareness of AIDS, the disease that had prematurely ended his life the previous year.

"The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert" features many QUEEN classics in unique performances, including "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Hammer To Fall", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Radio Ga Ga", "I Want To Break Free", "Under Pressure", "Somebody To Love", "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions". Special guests include David Bowie, Roger Daltrey, DEF LEPPARD, EXTREME, Bob Geldof, GUNS N' ROSES, Ian Hunter, Tony Iommi, Elton John, Annie Lennox, METALLICA, George Michael, Liza Minnelli, Robert Plant, Mick Ronson, Seal, Lisa Stansfield, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Young and Zucchero.

As well as being great entertainment, the concert raised a huge and still growing sum of money for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity formed at the time by Roger Taylor, Brian May and QUEEN's longtime manager Jim Beach whose charter is the relief of suffering from AIDS throughout the world. Profits from this release will be donated by the Mercury Phoenix Trust to AIDS charities around the globe.

AXEWOUND, the project featuring Matt Tuck (BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) on guitar and vocals, Liam Cormier (CANCER BATS) on lead vocals, Mike Kingswood (GLAMOUR OF THE KILL) on guitar, Joe Copcutt (RISE TO REMAIN) on bass, and Jason Bowld (PITCHSHIFTER, KILLING JOKE) on drums, has commenced work on material for its sophomore album. Tuck tweeted earlier today (Monday, August 19): "Can't wait to get back in studio with the ladz."

AXEWOUND was forced to cancel its North American tour at the end of 2012 because the bandmembers were "unable to obtain the proper visas" in time for the trek.

The group's debut album, "Vultures", was released in the U.S. last October via The End.

AXEWOUND is an outlet for the musicians to make music that is more extreme than they can and do in their regular bands. Their inspirations for doing so hark back to a golden generation of metal acts — to such heavyweight names as PANTERA and SLIPKNOT.

The roots of AXEWOUND go back to 2010, when Jason Bowld filled in for BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE drummer Michael "Moose" Thomas on a brace of shows. He and Tuck kept in touch and last year began discussing working together on a project separate from the hugely successful Welsh metallers. They eventually got together in December 2011 to write the songs that make up AXEWOUND's debut album, "Vultures".

Cormier was the obvious choice to front and pen lyrics for these songs. He and Tuck had been friends for years, CANCER BATS having supported BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE on numerous tours.

Norwegian groove metal band ZEROZONIC, featuring Død from BLOODREDTHRONE, has released a live video of ‘Cover My Tracks.’

Known from more extreme bands like SATYRICON as their live guitarist between 1996 – 1999 and still in the Norwegian death metal band, Bloodredthrone, Daniel "Peisy" Olaisen finally wanted to perform his long time passion for groove metal and formed Zerozonic in 2004. Singer, Leo Morachiolli (LOWDOWN) joined forces early on and still remains in the band. Both bass player and drummer from TRISTANIA and GREEN CARNATION was a part of Zerozonic and recorded the two first albums before leaving the band. Today, Jon Eirik "Elt" Bokn from thrash band, DEAD TROOPER handles the drums and Martin Berger pumps the bass guitar.

UK doom act, featuring an ex-member of GALLOW GOD, will release their full-length debut album, The Curse Of The Haunted, on September 1st through Weird Truth Productions.

A press release describes the album: “The combination of majestic heaviness and sorrowful mood, it's the keyword to describe their music. Doom/death heaviness and emotional melodies, fragile operatic clean vocal and powerful deep growling vocal, they mix both elements to create sorrowful epic doom/death.”

THE INFINITE STAIRCASE, the band comprised of brothers Lenny and Jeff Cerzosie, have released a lyric video for their new single ‘The Things We've Done’ which features guest performances by SEVENDUST's Morgan Rose and Lajon Witherspoon in addition to SAVATAGE/TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA's CHRIS CAFFERY and CYCLE OF PAIN's Troy Cromwell.

The video was created by the band’s longtime friend and fellow musician Tony D’Antuono.

To coincide with the release of this video, the band has finally announced an official release date for their EP, No Amends. On October 15th, No Amends will be released via Vanity Music Group/The Infinite Staircase, Inc. Physical copies will be available for preorder soon at this location.

No Amends was recorded at Architekt Music, the state of the art recording facility in Butler, New Jersey where Sevendust recently tracked Black Out The Sun. It was mixed by house engineer Mike Ferretti (Sevendust, CALL ME NO ONE) and mastered by UE Nastasi (LAMB OF GOD, PANIC! AT THE DISCO) at Sterling Sound in New York City.

The cover artwork for "Ninja", the brand new single from the Welsh "ragga metal" act SKINDRED, can be seen below. The song comes off the band's forthcoming album, "Kill The Power", which will be available for preorder from August 27.

DEVICE recently filmed a video for the song "You Think You Know". Directing the clip once again was P.R. Brown, who helmed DEVICE's first video, for the song "Vilify". Brown has previously collaborated with such artists as MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, Prince, AUDIOSLAVE, MÖTLEY CRÜE and SIXX: A.M.

DEVICE released its self-titled debut album on April 9. It debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard album chart, selling 35,000 copies in its first week of release. The CD features guest appearances from AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows, SYSTEM OF A DOWN vocalist Serj Tankian, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello, HALESTORM singer Lzzy Hale, BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler and ex-DEEP PURPLE bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes.

David launched DEVICE last year with ex-FILTER guitarist Geno Lenardo, after DISTURBED went on hiatus in late 2011.

Lenardo is not touring with DEVICE due to previous commitments. The live band, which made its debut on April 10 in Mobile, Alabama, includes DOPE guitarist Virus and EVANESCENCE drummer Will Hunt.

DEVICE took part in this summer's Gigantour alongside MEGADETH, HELLYEAH, NEWSTED and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY.

Fan-filmed video footage of ANTHRAX's first-ever concert in Israel, which took place on August 13 at Barby Club in Tel Aviv, can be seen below.

Speaking to The Jerusalem Post, ANTHRAX's founding rhythm guitarist Scott Ian — who was born 49 years ago to a Jewish family in the Bayside section of the New York City borough of Queens — said: "I didn't really have much of a Jewish upbringing; it didn't play a prominent role in our house. My grandparents were quite Orthodox, but my parents and I weren't. I learned Hebrew phonetically for my bar mitzva, read my seven minutes, and then we had a party. I think I did it more to please my grandfather than anything else."

Regarding why he decided to cut off his last name in favor of his middle name (Ian's full name is Scott Ian Rosenfeld), the guitarist said: "Scott Ian Rosenfeld was just too long — it didn't look good on posters when I started playing professionally, and Scott Ian did, so I just used that. It had nothing to do with it sounding too Jewish. I still used Rosenfeld for the songwriting credits, and for years people would come up to me and ask me who that other guy was that writes songs for you."

Guitarist Jon Donais (SHADOWS FALL) has been touring with ANTHRAX since Rob Caggiano's departure in January and will continue to play with ANTHRAX for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to Metal Hammer editor Alexander Milas for the "Metal Hammer" radio show on TeamRock Radio, Ian stated about the band's current second-guitarist situation: "Jon's been with us since February, and I think I can safely say he's passed the audition… [laughs]. I know we haven't said anything official yet, but in my mind, he's the guy. I'm sure some type of official announcement… because in this world, people apparently need that kind of information so they can sleep well at night. But as far as I'm concerned, Jon is the guitar player in ANTHRAX."

ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante is recovering from surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome. He is expected to rejoin his bandmates on the road on September 13 in San Bernardino, California.

ANTHRAX's current touring lineup includes former TESTAMENT/SLAYER and current ANIMETAL USA drummer Jon Dette.

Dette previously filled in for Benante on ANTHRAX's European tour last fall as the support act for MOTÖRHEAD and Australia's Soundwave Festival in February/March.

French doom/death act ATARAXIE will release their third album, L’Etre Et La Nausee, on September 1st via Weird Truth Production.

Noisy psychedelic Floridians ORBWEAVER recently dropped their brain-fraying Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon EP upon unsuspecting masses. The five-tracks are a harrowing, multifaceted sound voyage through modulating realities recorded at Miami's Pinecrust Studios with Jonathan Nunez of TORCHE, and mixed/mastered with Brian Elliot at Mana Recording Studios (HATE ETERNAL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, GOATWHORE).
Orbweaver produce cosmic pandemonium reminiscent of a Zappa-esque brand of controlled chaos. Forged in 2010 by guitarist/vocalist Randy Piro (ex-Hate Eternal, Gigan) and drummer Mike Pena, the pair recorded a self-titled, three-song demo. Shortly after, lead guitarist Sally Gates (ex-Gigan) and bassist Jason Ledgard joined the fold. Mike Pena parted ways with the group in 2013, and was replaced by drummer/percussionist Scott Spasiano.

SLEGEST, the solo project of former VREID guitarist Ese, recently inked a deal with Dark Essence Records for the release of the band’s debut full length album.
Set for release later this year, the eight-track album will be titled Løyndom (Secret) and was recorded partly in Ese’s own Systrond Studio and partly at the Conclave and Earshot Studio with producer Bjørnar E. Nilsen. The album is mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen.

Slegest was born in 2010, following Ese’s departure from Vreid, where he played guitar on four of the iconic band’s albums. Drawing his inspiration from BLACK SABBATH, Ese’s use of harsh vocals to create a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal was used to great effect on the band’s first release, the self-titled Slegest EP which appeared in 2012. One year later Ese has developed Slegest’s sound further, honing it to achieve a result that is both dark and sinister, whilst at the same time losing none of the dirtiness that can be heard in the unmistakable catchy groove that weaves its way through the music.

Whilst Slegest started life as solo project, with Ese handling vocals and playing all the instruments on Løyndom, apart from a guest solo by former Vreid band-mate Sture, it became apparent very quickly to everyone who heard the album that the potential for taking Slegest further and turning it into a live band was unmistakable and to ignore it would be insanity. As a result a live lineup has been put together and will be seen at festivals in the near future.

Earlier in August, Sixx:A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx, (MÖTLEY CRÜE) commented, "James has been with DJ (Ashba, guitarist) in Vegas recording guitars on the new Sixx:A.M. album. We have a little ways to go to finish off the whole album but we're zeroing in on what the first single will be. It's not gonna be easy. I am so proud of this album from the ground up. These songs are very unique. James, DJ and myself feel we have topped ourselves but in the end you will be the ones who make that decision.

We have agreed on the album title and the artwork direction. Photo sessions, videos, going over album cover concepts and mapping out release dates are all hovering above our heads now. The excitement is growing and things looks great for us to play live at some point."

On September 3rd, earMUSIC and Eagle Rock Entertainment will release the first studio recording of JON LORD's Concerto For Group And Orchestra. Originally released in September 2012 on CD (earMusic/Eagle Rock), this groundbreaking meeting of rock and classical music will now be released as a Blu-ray/CD set and double vinyl.

The recording of this incredible album began in June 2011 in Liverpool. Lord, the marvelous rhythm section of Guy Pratt (PINK FLOYD, MADONNA) and Brett Morgan (JON ANDERSON, STING) with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (with whom Jon had recorded twice before) were conducted by Paul Mann. The production then moved to Abbey Road Studios in London to record Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson (on vocals with Steve Balsamo and Kasia Laska) and Joe Bonamassa, Darin Vasilev and Steve Morse on guitars.

Happily, Jon got to hear and approve the final mixes a few weeks before he passed away. The family and earMUSIC decided to proceed with the release of the album in September 2012 as scheduled, as this seemed the best way to celebrate and pay tribute to Jon and his beautiful music. Thus this superb studio recording of Concerto For Group And Orchestra is exactly the way Jon wanted us to hear it and will now hopefully become Jon's legacy for generations to come.

“Over these last years since leaving DEEP PURPLE, I’ve played it over 30 times with different orchestras and conductors all over the world, and, of course, in 2000 I did it well over 30 times with Purple on the Concerto tour, so I’ve been honing the piece live on stage, and I’ve had the opportunity to change things in the score that weren’t sounding quite right. With his legendary organ blues-rock sound, Deep Purple’s founder Jon Lord has influenced decades of rock musicians. He is with no doubt the pioneer of fusing rock and classical/baroque forms and became one of the most important composers of the last few decades. Jon Lord co-wrote many of Deep Purple’s legendary songs including 'Smoke On The Water' and played with many bands and musicians throughout his career (WHITESNAKE, PAICE ASHTON LORD, GEORGE HARRISON). Best known for his orchestral work Concerto For Group And Orchestra was first performed and recorded at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969, conducted by the renowned Malcolm Arnold - a feat repeated in 1999 when it was again performed at the Royal Albert Hall by the London Symphony Orchestra and Deep Purple.

Jon’s solo work was universally acclaimed when he eventually retired from Deep Purple in 2002 but he continued to tour the Concerto around the world to sell outs and standing ovations.

Divebomb Records has teamed up with members of Chicago-based thrash act, STYGIAN, for the worldwide re-issue of their landmark album, Planetary Destruction. Originally released in 1992 via CHASTAIN guitarist/founder David Chastain's Leviathan Records, Stygian didn't necessarily break new ground during the final gasps of the thrash movement, but as the years passed the album's admirers grew exponentially and it now holds a firm place at the top of the heap as a sure fire cult metal classic.

The Divebomb Records Planetary Destruction re-issue will contain brand new mastering by Jamie King, full color booklet with archival band photos and new interview with bassist James Harris.

Release date has not been set yet, but is planned for some time in 2014.

Turkish metal act HERETIC SOUL has signed to PRC Music and has released their fourth brutal, powerhouse album, The Nihilistic Attitude. A press release says: “Heavy and brilliantly executed, the album is flawless and boasts an excellent production that will surely garner them success being first on a Quebec label.”

Pitch Black Records announces the addition of Norway’s GHOST AVENUE (formerly GHOST) to its roster of artists and the release of the band’s (self-titled) second album.

Formed in 2002, Ghost Avenue quickly managed to fine-tune their sound and gain a fan base after many live shows and some great reviews on their 2010 debut. Offering a unique blend of classic hard rock and 80’s heavy metal and despite the obvious preference for the classics, the band manages to achieve a contemporary sound with music that’s full of melody and catchy tunes.

The musicianship is excellent throughout the album and there’s no doubt that Ghost Avenue’s hard rocking metal sound will make anyone head bang over and over again! The album was mixed and mastered by Vagelis Maranis at Maranis Studios in Germany.

Montreal, Canada based, female-fronted death metallers YOUR LAST WISH have released an official video for the track ‘Autistic Mind’. The track is from their 2013 album Desolation, released worldwide by Maple Metal Records in June. Silver Wings Studios of Montreal produced the video.
