In live news, Vesperia will be performing at this year's Wacken Metal Battle Canada Finals on Saturday, June 22nd at The Opera House in Toronto, ON. Other bands competing that night include: CRIMSON SHADOWS, HOLLOW, DISSENSION, and ADRENECHROME.

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich tells RollingStone.com that the band has amassed nearly 600 song ideas during rehearsals in January and March of this year, many of which came from jam sessions the musicians held while on tour.

"I understand there are people waiting for a new record, and so are we," Ulrich says. "But I can't stress about it. It's not like, 'Fuck, hurry up and get this record out.' Hurry up for what? So we can go play gigs? We already play gigs. We'll get there."

Although Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo have indicated in recent interviews that at least some writing for the upcoming METALLICA album had taken place, frontman James Hetfield has a different take.

Hetfield told Abu Dhabi's That's Entertainment, "We haven't even started writing it. We're going through riffs. We have, like, 800-and-something riffs we're going through — lots of ideas. We're really excited about it, but doing concerts here and there, trying to get back in the studio and get some stuff done, it's all really exciting. But it gets done on METALLICA time, which is not really scheduled. When it's done, it's done and when it's good, then it will be done."

Ulrich said recently that he would be surprised if the album came out before 2015, while Hammett agreed in a separate interview, "We're recording stuff here and there, but it's a pretty slow process."

Asked in a new interview with Revolver about the next album, Ulrich said, "We're in the early stages of writing, and all I can say is there are some good things lurking," adding, "2014 is a bit optimistic for the album to come out, so '15 is more realistic. But listen, there's no rush. It's gonna take what it takes. I don't feel stressed about it, but that doesn't mean we don't care."

According to The Pulse Of Radio, BLACK SABBATH's new album, "13", is such a success for the reunited band that singer Ozzy Osbourne wants to make another one — and hopes that original drummer Bill Ward can join the group in the studio this time. When asked by NME about the chances of Ward returning, Ozzy answered, "It's a strong possibility. We would have loved to have Bill on this album. Maybe we can work things out by the next one. But it won't take another 35 years. I'm 65 now. There's no fucking recording studios in the afterlife. We're all even closer for all this shit so there's one positive, one fucking silver lining."

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE drummer Brad Wilk played drums on "13" after Ward sat out the sessions. While money was believed to be an issue, Ward was reportedly also upset that the group wanted another drummer around anyway to back him up if he was physically unable to get the job done.

Ozzy told The Pulse Of Radio that Ward being out of shape was the main reason he's not on the record. "Bill Ward has got the most physically demanding job of the lot of us, 'cause he's the timekeeper. I don't think personally he had the chops to pull it off, you know. The saddest thing is that he needed to own up to that, and we could have worked around it, whether we had a drummer on the side with him or something. But I suppose it was something to do with finances as well."

SABBATH's future also depends on guitarist Tony Iommi's health. Iommi was diagnosed with a form of cancer in early 2012 and continues to undergo treatment for it. Ozzy told NME, "At the moment, we're doing so many weeks on the road, then he has to go back for more treatment. He's had chemo and radiotherapy, and now he's on a thing to boost his immune system. I really hope it's gone for good. I'm sure it has. But you never know with that stuff."

"13", the first SABBATH album in 35 years to feature Ozzy, Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler all playing together, sold 155,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart this week, giving the group its first chart-topper ever in America.

Portland, Oregon funeral doom ensemble EPHEMEROS has announced their unholy union with Seventh Rule Recordings for the impending release of their debut full-length, All Hail Corrosion.

Formed in 2010, Ephemeros features members of NUX VOMICA, GRAVES AT SEA, ELITIST, and BASTARD FEAST. Their All Hail Corrosion offering was tracked and mixed by Fester (ATRIARCH, STONEBURNER) at Haywire Studios, mastered by Brad Boatright (SLEEP, FROM ASHES RISE, NAILS) at Audiosiege Engineering and offers up three diseased tracks in forty dismal minutes. German extreme metallers SEPTEMBER MURDER released their new album, He Who Invokes Decadence, independently this week. The follow-up to the debut album, Agony In Flesh (2009 - Maintain Rec./Twilight Distribution) was produced by Jens Martinek at his Schmiedeberg 7 Studios in Rübeland, Germany and was mastered in early 2013 by Peter Neuber at Mega Wimp Sound Studios, Berlin.
The band comments on their decision for an independent output as follows: "Contrary to all options we decided to release the album by ourselves and not drop back within the march of time. During the last years, times and conditions have changed enormously and the chances for young and free artists to release their works were rarely as good as they are today. In the end, we just want to keep making music and bring it closer to our fans."

Folks that remember life before grunge may recall the Canadian hard rock outfit kicking up a proverbial storm in the early '90s. SLIK TOXIK achieved Gold status in Canada with their full length Doin' The Nasty, and took home the 1993 Juno Award (Canada's version of the Grammy) for Best Album Of The Year. Sadly, in spite of their success, Slik Toxik called it quits in 1995 as grunge tightened its hold on the music scene. Nick Walsh and lead guitarist Rob Bruce formed the modern rock/hardrock band RAISED ON MARS, and together they released a self-titled debut. Walsh went on to form the hardrock band REVOLVER with CRASH KELLY's guitarist Sean Kelly. Revolver have produced two albums, one being a CD/DVD set. In 2011 the band changed its name to Famous Underground.

AUTOPSY will release its sixth studio opus of horror and all-out madness, "The Headless Ritual", on July 2 via Peaceville Records. The cover art for the CD was painted by none other than the legendary Joe Petagno (MOTÖRHEAD, MARDUK), and it's safe to say he has outdone himself with this gruesome slice of horror.

AUTOPSY released a DVD, "Born Undead", in June 2012 in the U.S. via Peaceville Records. The set charts AUTOPSY's birth, death and rebirth with an extensive documentary conducted with the bandmembers themselves, as they describe how the beast came to be, and the impact their music has had on the metal world over a span of more than 20 years. The film also documents the band's long-awaited return to the studio and stage, and includes rehearsal footage of both new tracks and old classics for their live comeback assault.

"Macabre Eternal", the first full-length album from AUTOPSY since 1995's "Shitfun", sold around 600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 67 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

AUTOPSY had previously decided to make an official comeback after working together on two songs for the special 20th-anniversary edition of debut album, "Severed Survival", in late 2008; the band having originally split before the release of its fourth album, "Shitfun", in 1995.

DYNASTY OF DARKNESS (formerly known as DEATH OF DESIRE), a brand new symphonic extreme metal band featuring members of MAYHEM, DIMMU BORGIR, ARCTURUS, THE KOVENANT, and EYES OF NOCTUM have released an album sampler from their upcoming opus Empire Of Pain.



The band was born in Bruchsal, Germany in 2008. First recordings and video footage were recorded in an abandoned military complex from the Second World War which used to be the Bundesnachrichtendienst Zentrale or the Secret Service for the Nazis, the compositions were created behind machine gun dented bulletproof doors and rusted barbwire cells creating an unmatchable atmosphere of obscure, cold and eerie material which was used for their first demos.
The album was recorded throughout Europe and America for the last years and has a full-length album that consists of 45 minutes of music with full production standards and quality ready to be released worldwide. The band has the double Grammy award winner mastermind Amund Svensson working on all our orchestrations and the double Grammy and golden record winner Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Blomberg (Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, The Kovenant) working on all the drums on the album. The album was produced by Morbid and Steve Tucker (ex-MORBID ANGEL), and they worked at the studio with him for over 400 hours, and this is a major big metal production under his belt. As guest singers the band has Weston Coppola and the legendary Attila Csihar (Mayhem).

Greece-based melodic black metallers LORD IMPALER will release their Babylon Whore EP on June 23rd as a digital EP (available through the band's official Bandcamp page, and as a split-CDR with the elite Hellenic black metal act ATHOS.

Babylon Whore contains two tracks from the upcoming second album from the band. It was recorded between January and March 2013 by Lord Impaler, except drums, performed by George Trakas (MASS INFECTION), engineered and recorded during March 2013 by George Stournaras at Infected_Studios.

Lord Impaler recently introduced another addition to their black legion. Nodens (known from his appearance in bands such as NORTH GATE, PROMETHEUS, TRIBE OF NEPTUNE and KULT OF TAURUS) is the new drummer of the band.

In Tragon’s (vocals) own words: “We are delighted to have Nodens with us. He is an amazing performer that shares the same vision we hold for Lord Impaler and for black metal. There is great bonding. In the few weeks that we work with him we made huge progress with the music of the second album and we can’t wait to set our feet on stage to show you that!”

Having previously released AIRBAG’s first two full-length albums as well as a digital single, Karisma Records have inked a new deal with the Norwegian prog rockers for a further two albums, and are set to release the band’s third full-length album in the fall of this year.

With a lineup that includes front man Asle Tostrup on vocals and live guitar, Bjørn Riis on guitars and backing vocals, Jørgen Hagen on keyboards, Henrik Fossum on drums and Anders Hovdan on bass, Airbag was formed in Oslo, Norway, in 2005. Taking elements from classical and progressive rock, chill and jazz, Airbag have created their own unique sound. Airbag’s first full-length album, Identity, appeared in 2009 and was hailed as one of the best progressive releases of that year. The 2011 release All Rights Removed went on to win even more plaudits, showing a slightly edgier side to the band’s music whilst still keeping their trademark moods and soundscapes.

AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler has revealed to RollingStone.com that he will begin work on his debut solo album in early 2014.

"Joe [Perry, AEROSMITH guitarist] has done, like, four solo albums," Steven said. "I never have, though with lyrics and arrangements and so forth a lot of AEROSMITH albums are just fine for me. It's cathartic. But I had a lot of fun doing '(It) Feels So Good'. I wrote that with Marti Frederiksen.

"I've got this itch in me to do a solo record, and that's what I'm gonna do next. I've got some great people that want to get involved in it.

"It's early on right now, but that's the itch I got. I got that itch to do something that's a lot different than AEROSMITH. AEROSMITH's never been better, but we did that album. This last album was an AEROSMITH all-for-one-and-one-for-all. But my heart is in stuff like that weirder, off-the-cuff stuff that I'm not sure AEROSMITH would like.

"I'm into electronica — I was when I used to listen to Stockhausen in '65. So there's just a lot of stuff — good, weird fucking music that I want to get off my chest. The band will be playing, and we're going to China and Singapore. It's gonna open up a whole new world for AEROSMITH. So AEROSMITH will always be around, but I got this itch and I know how to scratch it."

Asked whom he is looking to work with on the solo record, Tyler said: "There's so much good stuff out there. I am a huge Skrillex fan. I went to lunch with Deadmau5 at Mel's Diner. He's got incredible ideas for his next tour — blew me away, what he's gonna do. He's a single guy. He makes all the money himself when he puts the mouse head on, so he's got a ton of money. He knows where to take it, and he's still relevant. So it was a sick dinner, it was fucking unreal. I want to go out and explore things . . . I really want to take a little risk here and do something solo. There's no timeline — I'm gonna start in January and see where we get by March."

Beggars Archive has set a July 30 release date for a two-disc set from THE CULT on CD and vinyl called "Electric Peace", which will pair "Electric" with the abandoned "Peace" album, tracks from which have been released over the years on "The Manor Sessions" EP, as "Electric" B-sides and on 2000's "Rare Cult".

In 1985, THE CULT enjoyed breakthrough success with the single "She Sells Sanctuary" and the album "Love", establishing themselves as a new breed of alternative rock band. When it came to recording a follow-up, the band booked into The Manor studios in Oxfordshire with Steve Brown again producing the album. By the end of October 1986, the album was recorded, the masters assembled and it was given the title "Peace". However, the band weren't happy with the final results, which seemed too polished. Appreciating the rawness of RUN-D.M.C.'s "Walk This Way", the band contacted producer Rick Rubin to remix the lead track, "Love Removal Machine". Rubin agreed to work with the band but only on condition that the track was entirely re-recorded. The result was a sparse, dry, riffing version that captured the sonic excitement the band were looking for. Enthused by the results, the decision was made to abandon the expensive "Peace" recordings and re-record the entire album in New York with Rick Rubin. The new tracks would become THE CULT's third album, re-titled "Electric", and a multi-million seller.

Tracks from "Peace" were used as single B-sides and some of the alternative versions were issued on an early CD, "The Manor Sessions", but it wasn’t until the limited "Rare Cult" box set in 2000 that fans got to hear the full album correctly sequenced. The box rapidly sold out so "Peace" has been unavailable for 13 years.

THE CULT will promote the release by performing the entire "Electric" album at shows in the USA (starting late July) and Europe (October).

TWINTERA has released a new song, ‘Oversight’, featuring EVERGREY’s Tom Englund. The track is taken from the album Lines, released on November 16th, 2012 by logic(il)logic Records.

The Italian heavy metal band will take part in prestigious Masters Of Rock in Vizovice, the biggest open-air festival in Czech Republic. Twintera will perform on July 13th at 8:45 PM on the Alfedus Stage. The festival will feature artists such as RAGE, PRIMAL FEAR, GRAVE DIGGER, DRAGONFORCE, THE 69 EYES, DEVIN TOWNSEND, MOONSPELL, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and AVANTASIA. On July 12th, the band will also play in Austria at Frosbite Festival, taking place at Viper Room in Vienna.
