Ex-GUNS N

Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Drummer STEVEN ADLER: 'It Is Time To Get Rid Of The Urges Of Drinking Alcohol'

Former GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler recently checked into an undisclosed rehab center, forcing his band ADLER to postpone its summer tour.

Comments Steven: "I picked up a bottle and drank. This occurred a few times and that is a few times too many. I knew that this had to permanently stop. That is the moment I picked up the phone, before it got out of hand, to get help.

"I had kicked hard drugs several years ago and now it is time to get rid of the urges of drinking alcohol.

"I am at a great facility and will stay here until I am comfortable to be home to work the program on my own.

"I love you all for understanding, being patient and supporting my decision.

"Like my peers, I will beat this too, so I can return to music and beat my drums!"

The band issued a statement saying: "We are truly sorry to all of the fans and promoters who were looking forward to seeing us on the road, but right now Steven's health is the most important thing. We hope to make it up to everyone when Steven recovers." The dates are being rescheduled to the fall.

Adler was a cast member on the second season of "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew" and also appeared in the first season of its spin-off series "Sober House". Adler was then forced to enter real rehab centers by a judge after getting arrested for DUI. He later appeared on season five of "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew".

Adler's history of drug use goes back to his boyhood years, when he began skipping school and taking drugs at the age of 11.

His addictions eventually led to his dismissal from GUNS N' ROSES, the band he played drums for from 1985 to 1990. After he was fired, he continued to struggle with addiction while facing financial ruin and life-threatening health problems.

Ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash, a recovering addict himself, told The Pulse Of Radio that he tried to help his old bandmate overcome his problems in 2007. "I went to Vegas to go get Steven out of the situation that he was in, which for 17, 18 years, ever since he was kicked out of the band, he's been a diehard junkie who's pretty much had one foot in the grave and one foot amongst us all this time," he said. "I went to go see him and he was in a really bad way, so I got him out of Vegas and sort of did like a mock intervention on him."

Steven Adler's autobiography, "My Appetite for Destruction: Sex, and Drugs, and Guns N' Roses", came out in July 2010. In the book, Adler tells all, fearlessly addressing his struggles with heroin and crack addiction; his financial ruin after being kicked out of GN'R; his shattered marriage; and the severe health problems that nearly claimed his life on several occasions.

LOS ANGELES KINGS Hockey Team Pays Tribute To Fallen SLAYER Guitarist

LOS ANGELES KINGS Hockey Team Pays Tribute To Fallen SLAYER Guitarist

The NHL hockey team the Los Angeles Kings, which is currently in the first round of the playoffs, paid tribute to SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman on Saturday (May 4) by playing the song "Spirit In Black" from the band's "Seasons In The Abyss" album as the warmup music for their game.

Asked in a 2011 interview with Revolver magazine how he felt about the fact that SLAYER's song "Raining Blood" has been embraced in the sports world, Hanneman said: "Yeah. I finally heard it, God, they played it in a hockey arena. I couldn't believe that. I love hockey, and I go to a lot of the games. And I was like, 'Why don't they ever play SLAYER?' And then they finally played 'Raining Blood', and I was like, 'Yes!'"

Hanneman died on Thursday, May 2 near his Southern California home. He was 49. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure.

Hanneman had been on hiatus from SLAYER since early 2011, when he contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease that doctors believed might have been caused by a spider bite. Hanneman almost lost his arm, and was briefly placed in a medically induced coma. After a series of skin grafts, he had been working on his physical rehabilitation. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry.

ARCH ENEMY Singer: SLAYER

ARCH ENEMY Singer: SLAYER's JEFF HANNEMAN 'Will Never Be Forgotten'

Singer Angela Gossow (pictured below) of Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY has commented on the death of SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who passed away on Thursday (May 2) at the age of 49, from liver failure.

She wrote on Facebook: "Listening to SLAYER.

"Sad about the loss of Jeff Hanneman.

"Very happy we got to tour with SLAYER. I watched them every night and I was blown away every single time.

"Thank you for the music, Jeff. You will never be forgotten."

Hanneman stopped touring with SLAYER after contracting the rare flesh-eating disease necrotizing fasciitis — most likely from a spider bite — in early 2011.

Bassist Tom Araya told The Pulse Of Radio a few months ago that Hanneman was "free of the disease" and was working on rehabilitating the affected arm.

SLAYER guitarist Kerry King received a huge ovation from the crowd at the Revolver Golden Gods awards show on May 2 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, where said that Hanneman would have wanted "noise" rather than a moment of silence and then drank two shots in his bandmate's honor.

KREATOR Frontman Comments On Passing Of SLAYER Guitarist JEFF HANNEMAN

Guitarist/vocalist Mille Petrozza (pictured below) of German thrash metal veterans KREATOR has commented on the death of SLAYER axeman Jeff Hanneman, who passed away on Thursday (May 2) at the age of 49, from liver failure.

Speaking to Metalpaths.com, Petrozza said: "I can't find the right words right now. This is the saddest day in music I have experienced so far. Jeff has influenced my playing, writing and the way I listen to music forever. Condolences to his family and to [surviving SLAYER members] Dave [Lombardo], Kerry [King] and Tom [Araya]."

ICED EARTH Drummer Quits; Replacement Announced

ICED EARTH Drummer Quits; Replacement Announced

North American power metallers ICED EARTH have parted ways with drummer Brent Smedley (pictured below) for "personal family reasons." His replacement, Raphael Saini (CHAOSWAVE), will join the group on the road starting this summer.

"I have family members that are elderly and frail and need my help here in Jacksonville," Smedley says in a statement. "It's been one of the hardest decisions of my life but I simply cannot commit to the kind of schedule the band deserves and requires so I decided to ask permission to step down from my post."

Add the remaning members of ICED EARTH: "Brent has been a valued member of the group for a long time. We thank him for his contributions, friendship and energy and wish him all the best for the future. We want to welcome Raphael with open arms and are expecting for our fans to give him the welcome he deserves."

As previously reported, ICED EARTH has set "Plagues Of Babylon" as the title of its new album, tentatively due in October via Century Media Records. The CD will be recorded and mixed in between a string of European festival appearances this summer.

Songtitles set to appear on the CD (among others):

* Plagues of Babylon
* Democide
* Among The Living Dead
* The Resistance
* If I Could See You
* Peacemaker
* Cthulhu
* Parasite

The first part of ICED EARTH's 2014-2015 world tour will kick off on January 9, 2014 in Saarbrücken, Germany.

ICED EARTH has been hitting it relentlessly, with the recent studio album, "Dystopia", being the most toured album in the band's illustrious history.

One of the many highlights of the "World Dystopia Tour", a headline show at the historic Kourion Amphitheatre in Cyprus, was recently released on Blu-ray, DVD and in many other formats under the title "Live In Ancient Kourion".

"Dystopia" was released in October 2011 via Century Media Records. The CD marked the band's recording debut with singer Stu Block (INTO ETERNITY), who joined ICED EARTH in March 2011 following the departure of Matt Barlow.

WEILAND:

WEILAND: 'Certain Clauses' Prevent STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Members From Using Name Without Me

Singer Scott Weiland maintains that he is still part of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and that the other members of the band cannot tour under that name without him.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS members Robert DeLeo (bass), Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Eric Kretz (drums) issued a statement on February 27 revealing that Weiland had been "terminated."

He previously parted with the group in 2002, reuniting with them six years later after he was kicked out of VELVET REVOLVER.

During an interview with Dave Farra and Jason "Mahoney" Gentry of the X107.5 radio station in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 2 (hear audio below), Weiland was asked if STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will continue to play without him.

"I started the band," the singer replied, before adding, "I'm not gonna go into, legally, but there's things in place, like certain clauses that are in place that keep that from happening."

Weiland recently claimed that substance abuse issues were not the reason for his firing, saying, "I haven't been doing any of that bad stuff in a long time. I drink some, but I don't drink and drive. I'm fine, I'm all good."

Rumors of Weiland being fired first surfaced in December after Slash revealed the news in a radio station interview.

Weiland's tour with his solo band THE WILDABOUTS features him playing the first two STP albums.

THE WILDABOUTS' lineup includes multi-instrumentalist Doug Grean, bassist Tommy Black and guitarist Jeremy Brown.

METALLICA, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, ANTHRAX, PANTERA Members Remember SLAYER's JEFF HANNEMAN

Members of METALLICA, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, ANTHRAX, STONE SOUR, PANTERA, CHILDREN OF BODOM and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY spoke to Metal Injection on the "black carpet" at the fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods awards on May 2 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, California about the death of SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who passed away earlier that day at the age of 49 from liver failure. QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE:

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: 'I Appear Missing' Animated Video Released

Following the cryptic surfacing of the LikeClockwork.tv and its hazy semi-clues and last night's Adult Swim ad, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE have unveiled a trailer scored by three minutes of the never-before-heard "I Appear Missing", which appears in its entirety on the band's upcoming "...Like Clockwork" album, due out June 4 on Matador Records.

Showcasing disturbingly beautiful (or beautifully disturbing?) images from the boundless imagination of "...Like Clockwork" visual visionary, enigmatic U.K. artist Boneface (brought to life by animator Liam Brazier), "I Appear Missing" is a hypnotic journey into a nightmare-scape that adds illustrative dimension to another audio glimpse of the coming storm that is "...Like Clockwork".

Described by QUEENS principal Joshua Homme as "an audio documentary of a manic year," "...Like Clockwork" is the band¹s first full-length collection of all new material since 2007's "Era Vulgaris", as well as its debut release on new label partner Matador. The record can be pre-ordered on CD and vinyl. iTunes pre-orders will immediately receive "My God Is The Sun", which has been generating some early heat.

"…Like Clockwork" features guest appearances from Trent Reznor, Dave Grohl and other luminaries, including the legendary Elton John. The Pulse Of Radio asked QUEENS frontman Josh Homme how he snagged the iconic singer/songwriter to play on the record. "It actually stemmed from an old roommate of mine, who drives really high-end folks around now, and Elton was in the car listening to THEM CROOKED VULTURES, I guess," he said. "And his assistant was saying, 'Oh, you've got to hear QUEENS, the other band of this guy,' you know. And because my old roommate was driving the car, it was like, 'Do you want to talk to him?' And I just got a phone call at my house on a Sunday. You know, he said, 'The only thing missing from your band is an actual queen,' and I said, 'Honey, you have no idea.'"

The track that Elton plays on is called "Fairweather Friend".

Although it was initially reported that Dave Grohl played all the drum tracks on the new CD, Grohl only appears on selected songs. The rest of the drums are handled by Joey Castillo and Jon Theodore.

Other guests on the record include SCISSOR SISTERS singer Jake Shears, ARCTIC MONKEYS frontman Alex Turner and one-time QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE members Mark Lanegan and Nick Oliveri.

TARJA TURUNEN To Release

TARJA TURUNEN To Release 'Colours In The Dark' In August

Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen will release her new album, "Colours In The Dark", on August 23 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

Despite her light and shiny personality, Tarja's music has always been dressed "in black" — the color of heavy rock, of mystery and elegance.

With Tarja's new album, fans will find out what happens when a splice of color is added to the mix. Or — better said — when the full-color spectrum enters the picture it does not cover the black but makes it shine through with many emotions and landscapes.

Following up on the success of the multi-platinum and gold-awarded previous records "My Winterstorm" (2007) and "What Lies Beneath" (2010), Tarja finally returns with her long-awaited new rock album.

Mixed and mastered by Tim Palmer (PEARL JAM, U2) in Austin, Texas, the songs on "Colours In The Dark" do not shy away from taking a risk and surprising musical turns, introducing new sounds and new musical atmospheres. Still, they maintain a heaviness that will surely bring a big smile to the hardest of rockers. With its grand orchestra and choir arrangements, Tarja's next milestone emphasizes once again the impressive vocal range of the Finnish artist and shows her artistic growth. With ten brand new songs and over one hour of music, "Colours In The Dark" is definitely going to be one of the brightest moments for rock in 2013.

"Colours In The Dark" will feature cover artwork by Dirk Rudolph and will contain the following songs, among others: "Lucid Dreamer", "Neverlight", "500 Letters" and "Never Enough".

A lyric video for the song "Never Enough" was recently filmed in Zlin, Czech Republic and will make its online debut soon. Tarja says: "I didn't want to make a traditional, boring lyric video for the song, so I am going to appear on the video not just the lyrics of the song…. This video is not what we can call the official first music video from my new album, but just an improved version of a lyric video. The filming took only couple hours with Martin, who worked also on directing my first solo live rock DVD, 'Act I'."

In a recent interview with the Music Legends web site, Turunen stated about her upcoming CD: "I have just recently found my style and sound so I would like to establish it with the third studio album. The elements on the album will remain the same as in my previous albums, also the versatile style of songs. I like to keep the big dynamic changes between my songs, so that album songs feel radically different from each other.

"I am not stressed at all this time, even though I am producing the album on my own again. I have been lucky to gather around a group of musicians who are willing to work with me, so everything is going smoothly."

Tarja and her husband/manager Marcelo Cabuli recently became the parents of their first child.

"Act I" was released in North America on September 4, 2012 in 2-CD, 2-DVD and Blu-ray format via the Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records, in conjunction with earMUSIC.

Tarja's sophomore solo album, "What Lies Beneath", sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 24 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

CARCASS: Fan-Filmed Footage Of NEUROTIC DEATHFEST Performance

CARCASS: Fan-Filmed Footage Of NEUROTIC DEATHFEST Performance

Fan-filmed video footage of reactivated British extreme metal legends CARCASS performing on May 4 at Neurotic Deathfest at 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands can be seen below.

CARCASS recently recruited Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY) to mix its comeback album, "Surgical Steel", after the CD's producer, Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE), quit the project two weeks into the mixing process. During a March 2013 concert at the Underworld in London, CARCASS bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker claimed that Richardson walked away from the mix in order to work on the new TRIVIUM album.

The first official photo of the new lineup of CARCASS can be seen below (courtesy of Adrian Erlandsson of Murder Mile Studios). Joining guitarist Bill Steer and Walker in the band's current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON, DESOLATION, LIQUEFIED SKELETON).

CARCASS' first studio LP in 17 years, "Surgical Steel" is due in late 2013 via an as-yet-undetermined record label. The band's first studio outing since 1996's "Swansong" will feature guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen.

In a recent interview with Chile's Radio Futuro, Walker stated about the new CARCASS CD: "We think we've made a good album, so it's gonna be very interesting when people get to hear the record. We can't wait to see what people think."

He continued: "It sounds like CARCASS. Even the drumming sounds like CARCASS. Everything about it… I think it's gonna shock people, how good it is. I think it's got all the elements that people like, yet it still sounds fresh. So that's all I can say, really, 'cause we don't really sound like any other band, and the fact that after 17 years, we wrote music and it still sounds like CARCASS, I think it's good."

Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who had been touring with CARCASS since the band's reunion was announced in 2007, are no longer involved with the group due to scheduling conflicts with their main band, ARCH ENEMY.

FEAR FACTORY To Release New Studio Album Next Year

FEAR FACTORY To Release New Studio Album Next Year

Metal Mark of SkullsNBones.com conducted an interview with guitarist Dino Cazares of Los Angeles cyber metallers FEAR FACTORY before the band's May 2 concert in New York City. You can now watch the chat below.

FEAR FACTORY will perform its classic 1995 sophomore album, "Demanufacture", in its entirety aboard the 2014 edition of the world's biggest heavy metal cruise — 70000 Tons Of Metal — which will sail January 27-31.

FEAR FACTORY's video for the title track of their new album, "The Industrialist", was directed and edited by James Zahn. The clip utilizes live footage of the band from last June's Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium against a visual backdrop that pulls topical subjects from the story written by vocalist Burton C. Bell that served as inspiration for the group's latest CD.

A part of "The Industrialist" video was revealed in 2011 leading up to the release of the album. Now with the full video, the visual door to the concepts presented on the album are available for music fans to experience. Bell said, "We allowed James to take his time to create the video so that he could match his expertise with the conceptual imagery that was written in 'The Industrialist'. Being that he has been a longtime fan of FEAR FACTORY, he understood the nature of the FF machine; the concepts, imagery, and history. I believe he achieved a new era for FEAR FACTORY video concepts."

As a longtime fan of FEAR FACTORY, Zahn knew his work on "The Industrialist" would be enhanced by his extensive knowledge of the band.

"Growing up listening to FEAR FACTORY and being captivated with the heavy industrial scene of the 1990s, the one thing that always stuck with me was the accompanying visual aspect," he said. "Those videos that featured stock footage intercut with live performance clips were such a staple of the time and helped in editing 'The Industrialist'. Broken technology working alongside machinery in the midst of social change served as inspiration."

"The Industrialist" sold 9,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 38 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous CD, "Mechanize", opened with 10,000 units back in February 2010 to land at No. 72.

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN On Tennessee

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN On Tennessee's WREG-TV: Interview, Performance Footage

Legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen took part in an interview and live performance this past Friday morning, May 3 at the studios of the Memphis, Tennessee CBS affiliate WREG-TV Channel 3.

Malmsteen talked about his new album, "Spellbound", and his autobiography, "Relentless: The Memoir", and promoted his appearance at the 2013 Beale Street Music Festival.

Check out the footage below.

In "Relentless", Malmsteen relives the greatest and worst moments of his storied career as one of the most admired, talked about, and emulated guitarists in the world — from how he managed to buy his first Strat and assemble his first wall of Marshall amps to the truth behind the title of his 2005 "Unleash The Fury" album and beyond.

At the center of Yngwie's story is his lifelong rebellion against the conventions and restrictions of the Sweden in which he was raised. "Don't stand out," he was told when he dreamed of being a professional musician. "That won't work," he was warned when he wanted to play loud or little-known songs. His entire musical career has been a proclamation that he will stand out, and it will work.

That determination drove the fourteen-year-old Yngwie to make his now legendary "Powerhouse" demo tape, the recording that later caught the ear of Shrapnel Records' Mike Varney, who brought Yngwie to America in 1982. It drove Yngwie to become the de facto leader of two already existing bands before launching a solo career just eighteen months later. It also drove him to act out in sometimes bizarre ways and develop a reputation as a mercurial, perhaps unstable, personality.

Yngwie recounts these incidents with neither pride nor apology, but with a great deal of color. And he gets into the seedy and unscrupulous side of rock and roll, revealing how managers, record companies, and others ripped him off, before his wife, April, rescued both him and his business.

Musicians will be drawn to Yngwie's descriptions of how he composed his greatest songs and his overall approach to composition and to band dynamics. He writes with admiration about musicians, from DEEP PURPLE's Ritchie Blackmore to nineteenth-century violinist and composer Niccolò Paganini, who influenced his playing and the development of his unique neoclassical-metal style.

Whether you're a total metal freak, an aspiring musician, or someone who just loves a pull-out-all-the-stops rock-and-roll biography, you will read "Relentless" relentlessly from first page to last.

The 288-page book is available for order via Amazon.

PILGRIM Signs With METAL BLADE RECORDS

PILGRIM Signs With METAL BLADE RECORDS

Rhode Island's PILGRIM has joined forces with Metal Blade Records. The band's debut album, "Misery Wizard", was released in early 2012 through Poison Tongue Records, the label of vocalist Alan "Nemtheanga" Averill of Irish pagan metal masters PRIMORDIAL.

PILGRIM managed to spend the majority of 2012 rattling the foundation of the underground doom scene. The band toured with SAMOTHRACE, MARES OF THRACE, PRIMITIVE WEAPONS, headlined the Stoner Hands Of Doom festival, and more. At the end of 2012, PILGRIM had the honor of performing at Metal Blade's 30th-anniversary Scion AV label showcase. Most recently, PILGRIM performed as part of the Roadburn festival 2013 in the Netherlands.

As the "Misery Wizard" chapter of PILGRIM's budding career draws to a close, the band has begun efforts to craft the follow-up to what became a critically-acclaimed debut. The new album will be recorded in May of 2013 at Emandee Studios, which is the same location utilized for "Misery Wizard".

"The stars have aligned and our dreams have come true," said PILGRIM guitarist/vocalist The Wizard. "It's a fucking honor to have joined the ranks of the legendary Metal Blade army. The time has come for our world domination through sonic amplification. Hail Astaroth, Hail Slagel."

A high-quality live bootleg of a new PILGRIM track, "Void Worship", from the band's March 1 show at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, New York can be seen below:

PILGRIM is:

Krolg, Slayer of Men - Drums
Count Elric the Soothsayer - Bass

DEEP PURPLE: Trailer For

DEEP PURPLE: Trailer For 'Vincent Price' Video Released

"Now What?!", the most recent album by DEEP PURPLE, joins the band's iconic LPs like "Machine Head" and "In Rock" in the group of releases which entered the German Media Control chart at No. 1.

DEEP PURPLE recently filmed its first video in over 20 years — for the song "Vincent Price". A trailer for the clip can be seen below.

"Vincent Price" will be released on June 7 as download, CD single and seven-inch transparent vinyl.

"Vincent Price" will become a PURPLE collector's item, due to the inclusion of the song "First Sign Of Madness", which was recorded during the "Now What?!" sessions and not included in the final selection.

Seven-inch single:

Side A: Vincent Price
Side B: First Sign Of Madness

CD single and download

01. Vincent Price
02. First Sign Of Madness
03. The Well Dressed Guitar (from the now-deleted "Rapture Of The Deep" limited-edition CD)
04. Wrong Man (live) (from the now-deleted "Rapture Of The Deep" limited-edition CD)
05. Vincent Price (video)

"Now What?!", the 19th studio album from DEEP PURPLE, was released in North America on April 30 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

"Now What?!" was also released in a limited quantity with a bonus track and a bonus DVD featuring DEEP PURPLE in conversation plus additional audio material. This edition was made available in a digipak with a cut out front cover. "Now What?!" was also released as double vinyl LP containing a bonus track, as in the limited-edition CD.

After various songwriting sessions in Europe, the band recorded and mixed the album in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER, KANSAS). The CD contain 11 tracks, including "Out Of Hand", "Weirdistan", "Uncommon Man" and "Above And Beyond". The latter song references the band's late keyboard player, Jon Lord, in the lyric "Souls having touched are forever entwined."

According to a press release, "Now What?!" was recorded with no musical rules… and it shows a modern and fresh production… to the point that DEEP PURPLE have never sounded so close to the spirit of the '70s in the last 20 years as they do now. The CD has the excellence and elegance of "Perfect Strangers" and the wild freedom of "Made In Japan".

HIM:

HIM: 'All Lips Go Blue' Video Released

"All Lips Go Blue" , the new video from Finnish "love" metallers HIM, can be seen below. The song comes off the band's new album, "Tears On Tape", which was released on April 30 via Razor & Tie in North America and on April 29 through DoubleCross (Cooking Vinyl's specialist rock imprint) in the U.K. and Ireland. The "love metal" act's eighth official album was recorded at Helsinki's Finnvox Studios with longtime producer Hiili Hiilesmaa (APOCALYPTICA, AMORPHIS, MOONSPELL) and was mixed in London, England by Tim Palmer, who previously helmed 2005's "Dark Light" and 2007's "Venus Doom".

In addition to the 13 new tracks, the very exclusive and very limited "fanpack", presented by Metal Hammer magazine and DoubleCross Records features some not-to-be-found-anywhere-else content. Exclusively available from April 29 for four weeks, it comes with a bespoke 132-page magazine edited by frontman Ville Valo himself that plays as the ultimate sleeve notes to the album.

The album's artwork was described by artist Daniel P. Carter as having come about via "a series of strange coincidences involving Lee Dorrian, sacred geometry and the ramblings of a madman."

HIM's North American tour, which was due to kick off in West Hollywood on May 3 at the House Of Blues, was canceled after the band's lead vocalist, Ville Valo, was diagnosed with severe asthma with presumptive pneumonia.

HIM's manager, Seppo Vesterinen of Hinterland, Inc., told BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding the tour cancelation: "Ville has asthma and he got a pretty serious attack in the backstage at House Of Blues [in West Hollywood] on Friday and there was no way to perform. We got a doctor to the hotel at midnight and he diagnosed signs of pneumonia and prescribed antibiotics. The situation wasn't better on Saturday and we had to decide to cancel these dates to give him time for proper treatment and rest. He's being treated by best doctors in L.A. and we hope to continue the summer and fall as planned. Also he's been under a lot of stress for months recording the new album, artwork and promo for three different labels. Before Ville is fine, we can't make any definite plans for rescheduling these May dates. Ville and all of us feel really sorry for the fans who have bought tickets months ago and traveled long distances from Brazil, Canada and elsewhere."

HIM's current lineup is Ville Valo (vocals), Mikko "Linde" Lindström (guitar), Mikko "Migé" Paananen (bass), Janne "Burton" Puurtinen (keyboards), and Mika "Gas" Karppinen (drums). The band is managed by Seppo Vesterinen at Hinterland, Inc. and represented for U.S. touring by Justin Hirschman/AGI.

THE RESISTANCE:

THE RESISTANCE: 'Clearing The Slate' Video Released

"Clearing The Slate", the new video from with THE RESISTANCE, the Swedish extreme metal band featuring former members of IN FLAMES, THE HAUNTED and GRAVE, can be seen below. The song comes off THE RESISTANCE's full-length debut, "Scars", which will be released on May 10 in Europe and May 14 in the U.S. via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group. The 12-track CD is reminiscent of the good old days of Swedish death metal back in the 1980s/1990s when bands like ENTOMBED, GRAVE and DISMEMBER proved how insanely brutal and relentless, yet immensely captivating and technically adept extreme music can be. Well, apparently some established Swedish musicians did miss them, so they put things right: They brought back the old Swedish death metal.

"If you listen to ENTOMBED's 'Left Hand Path' today, it still blows everything away. And it's over 20 years old," says THE RESISTANCE/ex-IN FLAMES guitarist Jesper Strömblad. "[It's] just awesome death metal!"

"Scars" will be released on CD (as an elaborated digipack), on classic vinyl as well as a download.

"Scars" track listing:

01. Clearing The Slate
02. Your Demise
03. To The Death
04. Expand To Expire
05. Imperfected
06. I Bend - You Break
07. The Serpent King
08. Eye For An Eye
09. My Madness
10. Warmonger
11. Scars
12. (I Will) Die Alone

THE RESISTANCE released its debut EP, "Rise From Treason", in North America on January 29 via earMUSIC. The EP was made available on CD, limited-edition seven-inch vinyl and as a digital download.

The band last year parted ways with bassist Alex Losbäck Holstad (ex-DESPITE, DECAMERON, CARDINAL SIN) and recruited Claudio Oyarzo, the guitarist in the progressive metal band MINORA, as its new bassist.

The song "Eye For An Eye" was originally made available on the sampler CD that was distributed to the subscribers of Sweden's Close-Up Magazine in the August 2011 issue.

THE RESISTANCE made its live debut on October 8, 2011 at Club Distortion in Stockholm, Sweden.

THE RESISTANCE's lineup is as follows:

* Marco Aro (FACE DOWN, THE HAUNTED) - Vocals
* Jesper Strömblad (IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO) - Guitar
* Glenn Ljungström (IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO) - Guitar
* Chris Barkensjö (CARNAL FORGE, GODSIC, GRAVE) - Drums
* Claudio Oyarzo (MINORA) - Bass

Strömblad quit IN FLAMES in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction.

Man Pretending To Be PINK FLOYD's David Gilmour Jailed For $100,000 In Unpaid Hospital Bills

According to the Associated Press & Billboard, a man is accused of pretending to be a member of rock band PINK FLOYD at a Minnesota hospital - and racking up as much as $100,000 in unpaid medical bills.

Police say the 53-year-old Monticello man went to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment April 20. He claimed he was Pink Floyd singer/guitarist David Gilmour and that he didn't have health insurance.

He was treated and released, but not before signing an autograph.

The St. Cloud Times says hospital security was suspicious about the man's identity and his medical records were flagged. The man returned for more treatment several days later and, confronted by police, admitted he wasn't Gilmour.

The man was booked into the Stearns County Jail on a possible charge of theft by swindle.

ANVIL: New

ANVIL: New 'Hope In Hell' Teaser/Interview Available

Two years after their current release "Juggernaut Of Justice", Canadian metal legends ANVIL are back with their latest studio album. "Hope In Hell", an impressive metal recording featuring 13 haunting songs, is for release on May 27 in Europe and May 24 in Germany on SPV/Steamhammer and will be available in four different formats: as a limited-edition digipak including two bonus tracks, as a jewel case CD, double gatefold colored vinyl LP and as a digital download. These are the first cuts featuring ANVIL's new bassist Sal Italiano, who joined the band a year ago.

A "Hope In Hell" teaser/interview clip featuring ANVIL guitarist/vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner talking about the album can be seen below.

The "Hope In Hell" title track can now be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

"We're really happy with Sal. His style is powerful and amazingly imaginative," says ANVIL guitarist/vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow, who composed the entire album along with drummer Robb Reiner. "It's a little as if we'd enlisted Steve Harris."

"Hope In Hell" was written and recorded following an 18-month world tour which took ANVIL around the globe. "We hadn't expected this kind of extensive tour when we brought out 'Juggernaut Of Justice'," Kudlow confesses. "Time just flew by. I could hardly believe it when I found myself in the studio again after the tour, ready to work on the next album. The reactions to 'Juggernaut Of Justice' and the shows had been so positive that we had plenty of ideas and inspiration for new material."

Kudlow is referring to typical ANVIL tracks such as "Hope In Hell", which the ANVIL guitarist considers a logical continuation of legendary numbers like "Forged In Fire", "Metal On Metal" and "Plenty Of Power". He also mentions "Eat Your Words", according to Kudlow a "hybrid between 'Jackhammer' and '666', in other words pure ANVIL, like in our early days." Pretty much the same applies to haunting new tracks like "The Fight Is Never Won" and "Call Of Duty", which present ANVIL true to form. But there are also a number of real surprises on "Hope In Hell": "A song like 'Badass Rock'n'Roll' with its rock'n'roll groove surprised even me," Kudlow admits. "It shows our great respect for bands like AC/DC and MOTÖRHEAD. I'm sure that all ANVIL fans will love this song because it's the best we've done in this direction." "Mankind Machine" sees Kudlow & Co. break new ground: never before has this band sounded so mechanical (like the title suggests). And never before has it sounded as oriented to the classic rock feel of the seventies as in "Time Shows No Mercy".

So ANVIL are proud to present the kind of album that ANVIL fans will love: no concessions to short-lived trends, no modern frills but traditional metal with lots of classic rock music elements.

"What we do is totally timeless," says ANVIL's frontman. "We've never tried to change our sound or experiment with trends and fashions. We live in our own world and have maintained our individuality and own identity."

Like "Juggernaut Of Justice", "Hope In Hell" was produced by Bob Marlette (BLACK SABBATH, AIRBOURNE, ALICE COOPER) at the NRG Recording studios in North Hollywood, California and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, SEPULTURA).

"The album's flair reminds me of the beginnings of classic heavy metal in the most positive sense of the term," says Kudlow. "I grew up in the Seventies, and I still like what I listened to back then.

"You can always rely on ANVIL. We don't write our music for the radio and we don't want to break any records. Some media criticize our uncompromising attitude, but we're proud of never having betrayed our ideals and having remained faithful to our roots.

"We're really proud and already love the new album just as much as our early releases from the beginning of the Eighties, because 'Hope In Hell' sounds like ANVIL live on stage: natural, honest, unvarnished, never over-produced and straight from the heart."

"Hope In Hell" track listing:

01. Hope In Hell
02. Eat Your Words
03. Through With You
04. The Fight Is Never Won
05. Pay The Toll
06. Flying
07. Call Of Duty
08. Badass Rock N Roll
09. Time Shows No Mercy
10. Mankind Machine
11. Shut The Fuck Up
12. Hard Wired (bonus track)
13. Fire At Will (bonus track)

Video: HALESTORM Singer Joins DEVICE For Cover Of LITA FORD's 'Close My Eyes Forever'

HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale joined DEVICE — the new band fronted by DISTURBED singer David Draiman — on stage on May 4 at Carolina Rebellion festival at Rock City Campgrounds at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte, to perform a cover version of the 1988 Lita Ford/Ozzy Osbourne classic "Close My Eyes Forever". Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

DEVICE's self-titled debut album includes a cover of "Close My Eyes Forever", featuring guest vocals from Hale. The Pulse Of Radio asked DEVICE frontman David Draiman if he had been able to play the new version for either Lita or Ozzy yet. "Lita has heard it and she loved it," he said. "Ozzy, I have not sent to him. I only played it for Lita because she happened to be coming through town here in Austin, Texas and I went to go see her play. But I can only hope that both Ozzy and Sharon (Osbourne) love it and that they see it as what it is, which is just a tribute to the greatest heavy metal frontman of all time."

DEVICE's debut disc came out on April 9, selling 35,000 copies in its first week of release to enter the Billboard album chart at No. 11.

The live version of DEVICE, which features DOPE guitarist Virus and EVANESCENCE drummer Will Hunt in addition to Draiman, is currently on its first tour.

AMORPHIS Frontman Was 'Really Shocked' By SLAYER Guitarist's Passing

Metal Shock Finland 's Blackdiamond recently conducted an interview with vocalist Tomi Joutsen of Finnish melancholic dark metal forerunners AMORPHIS. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.

Asked about his reaction to the passing of founding SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman, Tomi said: "For me, it was a huge surprise, I knew he was sick, but I didn't know it was so serious. When I heard the news, I was really shocked. I mean, really shocked. SLAYER were, of course, a really important band and I'm glad they are continuing, but it's not the same without Jeff. He did some great songs with SLAYER and I think he was a person who didn't want to do any compromises, so it was a great thing. Yeah, it made me really sad; it was a sad day."

MÖTLEY CRÜE Guitarist Is

MÖTLEY CRÜE Guitarist Is 'Alright' Following Canadian Stage Incident

MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars was knocked over by a fan on stage during the band's headlining concert last night (Saturday, May 4) at Spectra Place in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada.

As the group was performing the song "Primal Scream", an audience member rushed the stage, bumping into Mars and grabbing MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil before being tackled and hauled off.

"What the fuck is wrong with you, you fucking idiot?" drummer Tommy Lee shouted as the man was being dragged off the stage.

Neil then told the audience, "We might be back," before he and his MÖTLEY CRÜE bandmates disappeared from view. They later returned to close out the set.

Earlier this afternoon, Mars tweeted the following message: "Thank all of you for your concerns about me being knocked down last night. I'm alright; nothing [is] broken. My bodyguard Rhyno got two busted ribs."

Fan-filmed video footage of the incident can be seen below.

Mars, who was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) when he was 19, turned 62 years old yesterday.

In a 2008 interview with MusicRadar, Mick stated about his medical condition: "It's no walk in the park. In fact, it's why I kind of walk like Frankenstein. [laughs] The thing about ankylosing spondylitis is, it's caused by a gene; you first start noticing pain in your hips, usually when you're in your teens. What it does is it slowly fuses your bones together — your spine, your ribs… With most people it stops in their 30s, when the disease is still in their lower back. In my case, I have a rare form of the disease that hasn't stopped, so it's all the way up my whole back and into my brain stem. It's literally squeezing my rib cage together, so I've lost some height. And now that it's up in my brain stem it's hard for me to move my head in any direction, be it up and down or sideways. So I can't drive, I can't do any of that kind of stuff — this isn't a 'boo-hoo', it's just the facts."

He added: "There's no cure, but the doctors say they might, might be able to chip away some of the bone growth at the brain stem; it'll still grow back but I'll take any improvement. If I could just move my head a little and stand up straight, I'd be a happy man."

MÖTLEY CRÜE kicked off the most expansive run of Canada in the band's history on April 21 in Penticton, British Columbia.

The CRÜE will return to The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for a dozen shows September 18 through October 6.

WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH To Sing

WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH To Sing 'Crazy Train' Parody At JEFF HANNEMAN's Funeral

Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church has announced plans to picket the funeral of SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman, claiming that it will sing its "parody" of OZZY OSBOURNE's "Crazy Train" "at full voice" at the event.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church — the fringe. group which continues to make headlines for its anti-gay protests at the funerals of U.S. soldiers regardless of their sexuality — first used lyrics from "Crazy Train" at events surrounding the October 2011 Snyder v. Phelps Supreme Court hearing. An attorney — a daughter of the church's founder, along with her sister — paraphrased lyrics from the song at a post-Supreme Court hearing press conference in Washington D.C.

"I am sickened and disgusted by the use of 'Crazy Train' to promote messages of hate and evil by a 'church,'" Osbourne said in response to the news reports.

Westboro Baptist Church's "Crazy Train" "parody" lyrics:

Amazing, that's how God rolls
Millions of people, drowning in woe
Crazy, it's much too late
To speak about love, when you brought on is hate
Crying about your feelings, or your sin, no shame

You're going straight to hell, on a crazy train
You're going straight to hell, on a crazy train

Let's go

You listen to preachers, your leaders are fools
You're raping false prophets, who make their own rules
The base is ascending, to rule and control
The media sells it, and you pay the toll

The station goes deceiving, their torment you in flames
You're going straight to hell, on a crazy train

We've told you your destruction is imminent
You should have listen to our words

Isn't God's fury?, That's forced onto them,
The ruling rebellion, God is made to numb
Crazy, the pride as you well
Your birth will be brutal, he will say what is fair

God is not been sleeping, he's gonna bring the pain
It's time for your finally ride on this crazy train [End of lyrics]

The audio of Westboro Baptist Church's "Crazy Train" "parody" can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

In a June 2010 appearance on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline", Osbourne blasted the Westboro Baptist Church's protest of Ronnie James Dio's funeral. "I thought it was in such bad taste that those people had those banners about Ronnie James Dio. That's disgusting. They say that we're the anti-christ. Well, what makes them any better?"

The Westboro Baptist Church is described by the Wall Street Journal as a "tiny Kansas church… [that] … preaches that U.S. deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq are punishment for American's tolerance of homosexuality and abortion." As Examiner.com noted of the church, "their flamboyant demonstrations at the funerals of non-gay service members, using the events to highlight their belief that military deaths overseas are justified punishment for U.S. tolerance of homosexuality. ('You're Going to Hell,' 'Thank God for Dead Soldiers,' and 'God Hates You' are popular Westboro slogans.)."

Jeff Hanneman died at about 11 a.m. on Thursday (May 2) near his Southern California home. He was 49. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry.
