DAVE MUSTAINE Slams 'Liberal Media', Says He Has Been 'Severely Misinterpreted By The Press'Carlos Ramirez of AOL's Noisecreep recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On being misunderstood by the media:
Mustaine: "One of the problems about MEGADETH is that we've been severely misinterpreted by the press. I'll say something in an interview, and they'll either take what I said completely out of context or they evaluate it based on one sole statement and not the whole idea."
On what he sees as the ultra-liberal media double standard:
Mustaine: "The public doesn't have the time to learn all of what is happening out there. Everyone is busy trying to survive. Who would have ever thought that someone as powerful as Ted Turner would go on the Piers Morgan show the other night and actually say that's it's good that there are American troops committing suicide. Are you kidding me? I was stunned. But it didn't make the media like other things do because Turner is a liberal and he's part of the liberal media and they've squelched it so no one sees it. Whether you're a Republican, Democrat, liberal, or even a communist, you should be outraged about what Turner said. He probably realized he messed up in the interview and said to the folks at CNN, 'Don't cover this or I'll fire you.' He can do that. CNN fired Amber Lyon because she wanted neutral and unbiased reporting."
On Mustaine's belief that much of the media is not interested in covering hard news anymore:
Mustaine: "I remember reading about something when Walter Cronkite was still alive. It was about this news team working in a newsroom. They had just decided that they were no longer going to use a news producer and got a television producer instead. So the television producer says to the room, 'So what do you have for me today? Let's run down the stories.' The reporters then tell him all of their news items, but then he says, 'I know, but what's the story?' He wanted something juicier. When news is turned into some kind of reality-based TV thing, instead of just the facts, we're in trouble."

JANE'S ADDICTION's Cover Of 'Sympathy For The Devil' To Appear On 'Songs Of Anarchy: Vol. 2'Alternative rock pioneers JANE'S ADDICTION recently recorded a cover version of THE ROLLING STONES classic "Sympathy For The Devil" for the second album of music from FX's hit drama "Sons Of Anarchy", entitled "Songs Of Anarchy: Vol. 2" and scheduled for release on November 19.
"When JANE'S ADDICTION said they were into the idea of doing 'Sympathy For The Devil' for the show, we were completely blown away," said "Sons Of Anarchy" music composer Bob Thiele. "This was made all the more sweet because theirs was the first and only door we knocked on. JANE'S ADDICTION is one of the few post-'60s/'70s iconic bands that resonates with our show's mythology. They have typified rebellion from their very beginnings. It seemed a natural fit between a band and a song with so many layers of meaning to the 'Sons Of Anarchy' narrative. I can proudly say that the end product speaks for itself. Working with them, as a band and as individuals, was an incredibly satisfying experience."
JANE'S ADDICTION originally issued a live version of "Sympathy For The Devil" in 1987 on their self-titled album.
As previously reported, JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro will show off his acting skills in the last two episodes of the show's current season. Navarro's character will be a member of the Byz-Lats gang, affiliated with NeroPadilla, the "companionator" played by actor Jimmy Smits.
JANE'S ADDICTION's latest album, "The Great Escape Artist", came out in September 2011. 1

Candlelight Vigil For SUICIDE SILENCE Singer To Be Held TonightA candlelight vigil for late SUICIDE SILENCE singer Mitch Lucker will be held tonight (Thursday, November 1) at 8 p.m. at Main St. and 12th in Huntington Beach, California. This is open to anyone who would like to stop by and pay their respects.
Lucker died Thursday from injuries he suffered last night when he lost control of his motorcycle in Huntington Beach.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the singer struck a light pole near the intersection of Main and 13th streets and was thrown from his 2013 Harley Davidson. The motorcycle continued sliding south on Main Street and struck a northbound 2007 Nissan Titan pickup.
A month ago, Lucker spoke to Brittany Moseley, associate editor of AltPress.com, about second favorite hobby.
Asked what attracted him to motorcycles, Mitch said, "The danger in it. Being a frontman in a band, you get addicted to adrenaline rushes. When you're onstage, there's not more of a rush. When I get home from touring, I need to find something to match that so I don't get my adrenaline withdrawals. Being exposed to every element of danger while you're sitting on a motor — that, to me, is freedom."
Lucker also said that the was a strong sense of camaraderie among motorcycle riders. "Even if you're just riding on the highway by yourself and someone passes you on a bike going the opposite direction, there's like a 'Hey, what's up?' type of thing that you do no matter who you are," he said. "People in cars don't do that. But motorcycle-to-motorcycle, it's just a common-respect kind of thing. It's kind of a family unit." 7

MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE: 'This American Supports Our Troops'An American flag that was flown over Camp Leatherneck, amid the battlefields of Afghanistan, during decisive operations against enemy forces in Helmand Province, was dedicated in honor of MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine by Lieutenant Colonel Stephen D. Sklenka of United States Marine Corps.
Commented Mustaine: "Besides getting married and the birth of my two children, I have never been more proud than this moment.
"To all of our servicemen and servicewomen, I love you all, and THIS American supports our troops!"
While performing with MEGADETH on August 7 in Singapore, Mustaine told the crowd, "Back in my country, my president is trying to pass a gun ban. So he's staging all of these murders, like the Fast And Furious thing down at the border and Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there. And now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple."
He continued: "I don't know where I'm gonna live if America keeps going the way it's going because it looks like it's turning into Nazi America."
Mustaine in March made headlines when he told Canadian television and radio personality George Stroumboulopoulos that he is certain that President Obama "was born somewhere else than America."
"I have a lot of questions about [Obama], but certainly not where he was born," Mustaine said. "I know he was born somewhere else than America."
When Stroumboulopoulos pointed out that this school of thought made the musician part of the so-called "birther" movement, Mustaine countered, "I'm not calling a question to it, I just, you know, it's a point. How come he was invisible until he became whatever he was in Illinois?"
Stroumboulopoulos tried to further challenge Mustaine on his claims, causing the MEGADETH frontman to attempt to change the subject.
"I don't want to talk about my president," Mustaine said, before going on to admit that he was going to "have to do some more homework on where Obama came from." 19

Former W.A.S.P. Guitarist RANDY PIPER Seeing Vocalist For New ProjectFormer W.A.S.P. guitarist Randy Piper is holding vocalist auditions on November 14-16 at the Temple Theater in Tacoma, Washington. Auditions are by appointment only and can be made through RandyPiper.net.
Randy is looking for the right combination of vocal skill, stage presence, creativity, and charisma to front his new heavy metal project.
"I'm ready for some new blood," Piper said. "I want someone to come in with the confidence to nail the W.A.S.P. songs, but also be comfortable blazing new territory."
The right person should be able to sing classic W.A.S.P. hits, sound great with Piper, be free of drug or alcohol issues, and be able to travel overseas. A great stage presence and the ability to relate to and command an audience is a must.
There are four songs to choose from, including W.A.S.P. classics "Wild Child" and "Savage"; "Nowhere Fast" from the movie "Streets Of Fire", and the previously unreleased Randy Piper ANIMAL track "Raising Hell".
"'Raising Hell' is an opportunity for someone to really shine," Piper said. "This track has the chorus on there to give you a start, but I really want to hear someone come in with their own lyrics and blow this away." 1

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY: New EP Artwork UnveiledScion Audio/Visual, (a.k.a. Scion A/V), the in-house record label and lifestyle marketing division of the Scion marque produced by Toyota Motor Corporation for the North American market, will release the new EP from Raleigh, North Carolina legends CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. Entitled "Megalodon", the effort will feature "five heavy tracks."
In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY guitarist Woody Weatherman stated about the band's forthcoming EP, "It's totally done, mixed and mastered, and we just got finished with it this past week. And I think it's coming out in about three or four weeks. It's a pretty quick turnaround, which is unusual in this day and age, but they can do it, they can make it happen … We did that in our hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, which is kind of nice, to be able to hang around in town and not have to go out somewhere, go to L.A. or New York. Sometimes it's nice to record at home. You get a little better vibe. Plus I got to use all of my own gear. So it was fun."
The "Megalodon" cover artwork can be seen below.
Candlelight Records has set a November 6 North American release date for CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's "Eye For An Eye". This special reissue has been remastered/packaged and includes the EP "Six Songs With Mike Singing". Both titles have been out of print for years. It follows the successful release of the band's self-titled album earlier this year. A deluxe digibook edition of the album, limited to 1000 for North America, will be available at limited retailers and via Candlelight's official webstore. The digibook version includes extended liner notes and a rare pictorial gallery.
Originally released in 1984, "Eye For An Eye" featured the original lineup of Weatherman, bassist Mike Dean, drummer Reed Mullin and vocalist Eric Eycke. Reissued to incorporate the 1989 EP by Mike Dean (who left the band between 1987-1992), "Eye For An Eye" is raw in sound but focused on message. The years that followed would see the band rise to worldwide popularity with breakthrough and Billboard-charting releases "Blind" and "Deliverance".
Formed in Raleigh in 1982, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States, the band continues to find new fans via nonstop touring. 1

MÖTLEY CRÜE, MACHINE HEAD, BLACK VEIL BRIDES, LACUNA COIL Members Dress Up For HalloweenLike mere mortals, a number of rockers and their significant others dressed up for this year's Halloween festivities, and we've assembled a collection of some of our favorites. Check out the photos below.
TOOL and PUSCIFER frontman Maynard James Keenan told The Pulse Of Radio last year that he enjoyed Halloween because it's more than just costumes and trick or treating. "It's an interesting season to me, having done a little research on it," he said. "It's an interesting holiday. I recommend that people really kind of dive into some more of the origins of, you know, why the jack-o-lantern on the porch and why the trick or treat — why the door to door. What is that all about? It really is an interesting story."
ALICE IN CHAINS drummer Sean Kinney admitted that he spent most of his Halloweens in the same costume. "I probably spent all my tiny boy years dressed as Peter Criss from KISS — 'bout every year until, what is it, last year," he said. "I mean, that was pretty much my thing. I'd looked forward to that. My sister'd paint me up in the cat makeup and I'd paint my hair and I'd go out there and bring my drum sticks and I loved it, you know. That was my moment, you know. I'd still do it."
Johnny 3 Tears of HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD told The Pulse Of Radio where in Los Angeles he likes to hang out on Halloween night. "I go down to Santa Monica Boulevard every year and they have it closed off, with like bands and... the transvestite community is very large there, and they put on these costumes and it's just like a spectator sport down there," he said. "I just go down there and throw water balloons and drink. It's fun."
Rob Zombie revealed that he lives in a very Halloween-oriented neighborhood — and that was even before he moved there. "The neighborhood we live in is like trick or treaters central — literally we get thousands, which always sounds like an exaggeration, but it's not," he said. "You know, one year I counted how many trick or treaters we got, 'cause I knew how much candy we had, 'cause I actually counted it. And as I gave it out, I kept track just out of curiosity. And when it went over a thousand kids, I just locked the door and turned the lights off. I couldn't take it anymore. The whole neighborhood shuts down, it's the most insane thing I've ever seen."
STAIND has played a lot of shows on Halloween in costume, but guitarist Mike Mushok recalled one gig where his outfit let him down. "We played another one where I was a mummy," he said. "I went to like a medical supply store. I got this huge gauze and wrapped my entire body with gauze, which is great in theory until you start playing — it all starts falling off (laughs). I should have worn something underneath it rather than nothing, but…"

DEEP PURPLE, OPETH, DREAM THEATER, SYMPHONY X Members Featured On NEKTAR Covers CDProgressive rock fans worldwide are buzzing with excitement about the forthcoming release of a new covers CD by music legends NEKTAR called "A Spoonful Of Time", featuring an all-star guest lineup. On November 27, Cleopatra Records will celebrate the band's 43rd anniversary by releasing the first-ever covers album by the iconic U.K. ensemble, joined by an incredible gathering of musical heroes, including members of YES, KING CRIMSON, DEEP PURPLE, SYMPHONY X, OPETH, MARILLION, ASIA, THE MOODY BLUES, DREAM THEATER, TANGERINE DREAM, MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA, HAWKWIND, THE ZOMBIES, TOTO and CREAM.
Says founding NEKTAR member Roye Albrighton: "The idea originated from Cleopatra themselves. They thought it might be a good idea to do an album of classic songs with a multitude of different players but under the NEKTAR banner. Klaus, Ron and myself were to be the staple musicians taking part and the files would be given out to various musicians to do their parts. I was asked to do most of the vocals except for the one track which was ('Africa') and quite a few guitars too. Ron did a lot of the drums and Klaus was prominent on several of the tracks on Hammond and mellotron."
"A Spoonful Of Time" was produced by the band and mixed by prog icon Billy Sherwood, who also played bass on some of the tracks.
Says Billy: "I really enjoyed working with NEKTAR on their new record. It was an honor playing bass on the entire project too!! Roye is very creative and inspiring to be around. Ron and Klaus are great to work with too. I felt like it was working with friends, making music, as it should be. I look forward to playing some gigs with them in the future."
Adds Roye: "The songs featured on the album were chosen by Cleopatra, of which a few of them I quite like. It was good working with Billy on this covers album and our new studio album, 'Time Machine', and like me, he wants the absolute best for the music."
As far as future plans for NEKTAR, Albrighton says: "To make more music, and to experiment more in different ways."
NEKTAR will take part in the Cruise To The Edge in March with YES, TANGERINE DREAM, SAGA and others.
In closing, Roye has this to impart to the band's longstanding fans: "A huge thanks to all those fans who have stuck by the band through thick and thin over the years. We are only doing it for you."

"Regarding our decision to sign with Columbia," Treznor noted in his Facebook announcement, "we've really spent a long time thinking about things and it makes sense for a lot of reasons, including a chance to work with our old friend Mark Williams. There's a much more granular and rambling answer I could give (and likely will in an interview someplace), but it really comes down to us experimenting and trying new things to see what best serves our needs. Complete independent releasing has its great points but also comes with shortcomings."
HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS released a self-titled EP in 2010, and covered BRYAN FERRY's "Is Your Love Strong Enough?" for the soundtrack to "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" (scored by Reznor and Ross).
"An Omen EP" track listing:
01. Keep It Together
02. Ice Age
03. On The Wing
04. The Sleep Of Reason Produces Monsters
05. The Loop Closes
06. Speaking In Tongues 1

GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose told USA Today in a new interview that the band's 2008 album "Chinese Democracy" took so long to complete — 13 years, to be exact — because he was being mentally abused by former members Slash and Duff McKagan during the initial songwriting stage.
Rose explained, "[Slash and McKagan] did more damage to my ability as a writer . . . It beat me down so much. At the time of the ['Use Your Illusion'] tours, Slash and Duff said, 'You're an idiot, you're a loser.' I didn't write for years. I felt I was hindered for a very long time. I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to say, when it's right to be venting and when you're digging a bigger hole. Lyrics on 'Chinese' took a long time."
Rose said that the success of the band's classic 1987 debut, "Appetite For Destruction", was what began to tear the group apart. He explained, "I thought the success of that record would bring everyone together more. It did the exact opposite. They got success and wanted to run in their own directions."
Slash had his own take on what happened in the band, as he told The Pulse Of Radio a while back. "Something with Axl was very insecure and it just kept the band from sort of functioning properly," he said. "Although he was wanting to do things, I never to this day really understand exactly what he was getting at, and because it took so long to ever get anything done, I always attribute it to some sort of fear factor."
On the inevitable question of whether he could ever make peace with his former bandmates, Rose said, "I feel that ball's not in my court. I'm surviving this war, not the one who created this war."
Rose said that the current edition of GUNS, in which he is the sole original member, is writing music for a follow-up to "Chinese Democracy", hinting, "[The next album] will come out sooner." 2

WINTERSUN: Quality Video Footage Of Helsinki ConcertQuality video footage of WINTERSUN's sold-out October 13 concert at Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland can be seen at this location. A few of the clips are available below.
WINTERSUN's long-awaited new album, "Time I", has registered the following first-week chart positions:
Finland: #2
Germany: #21
Austria: #33
According to WINTERSUN mainman Jari Mäenpää, there are several reasons why the band's new effort, "Time" is being released as two separate albums, titled "Time I" and "Time II". He says:
* "All the 80 minutes of material won't fit on a regular CD and we didn't want to cut anything out.
* "We want you to be able to hear new material sooner and not wait any longer and we want to go on tour sooner.
* "The music is very full and complex, so listening this kind of 'hard listening (not easy listening)' material straight for 80 minutes is a bit too much (even for me).
* "Both albums will be approximately. nice 40 min epic packages of fireworks.
* "We like the idea of releasing two albums within one year, so the band will stay more visible longer, which is important in these 'modern times.' No more years of silence for us!"
"Time I" track listing:
01. When Time Fades Away
02. Sons Of Winter And Stars
I) Rain Of Stars
II) Surrounded By Darkness
III) Journey Inside A Dream
IV) Sons of Winter And Stars
03. Land Of Snow And Sorrow
04. Darkness And Frost
05. Time
"Time II" will be released in 2013.
WINTERSUN is currently headlining this year's edition of the Heidenfest tour. Support on the trek is coming from KORPIKLAANI, VARG, TROLLFEST and KRAMPUS.
WINTERSUN's debut CD was released in September 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records. 1

HELHEIM To Stream 20-Year Celebration Concert LiveNorwegian Viking metallers HELHEIM are set to celebrate their 20-year history with a special concert at the Inside Rock Café in their hometown of Bergen on Friday, November 2. The event will also feature local bands and special guests, and, according to the band, the venue, with its intimate surroundings, has been especially chosen so that it becomes a true celebration amongst fans and friends. However, after receiving many messages from fans outside of Norway who would obviously not be able to attend, HELHEIM has decided to stream the performance live on its web site at and the stream will begin at precisely 10:00 p.m. Norwegian time, and will remain available to be viewed for a period of time after the event.
NARROWHEAD, whose frontman has frequently guested on vocals for HELHEIM, along with the all-girl rock band FAIRY and punk rockers BEINKJØR, will also play at the event. There will be other guests throughout the evening, but according to HELHEIM, "We prefer to keep it all as a surprise. It wouldn't be a real party if there weren't a few surprises for everyone!"
Rather than being one of the manufactured Viking acts that proliferate on the scene these days, HELHEIM has, throughout its 20 years of existence, always remained true to its Norse heritage. As one of the oldest of Norway's Viking bands, HELHEIM, with its majestic epic songs, conveys an accurate and proud sense of past, not just through its lyrics and music, which often includes the use of traditional instruments, but also in its stage performances, which feature VJ effects that enhance the themes and concepts explored by the band.

OZZY OSBOURNE On BLACK SABBATH: 'I Have Never Wanted To Be Serious, To Have Solemn Music'BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne spoke to The Telegraph about the band's first tour of Australia since 1974, which is scheduled to kick off at the end of April. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On the recording sessions for the new BLACK SABBATH album:
Ozzy: "Oh yeah, oh yeah, it's great to be back recording with the guys and playing with them."
On how he just wants to have fun:
Ozzy: "I have never wanted to be serious, to have solemn music. It's meant to be fun.
"In actual fact, the way that all happened with the music and the name and everything, if I can remember, is we used to rehearse in a movie theatre so we decided to try to write songs inspired by scary movies. It was all flower power and love, but for us, living in the industrial town of Birmingham, we liked scary movies."
On how he first discovered the reverence with which other musicians regarded BLACK SABBATH when METALLICA joined him on his 1986 tour:
Ozzy: "I came past their dressing room and had to ask one of their assistants if they were taking the piss out of me because they were playing BLACK SABBATH. For someone to tell you 'BLACK SABBATH changed my life' is a weird thing to get your head around."
On touring Australia:
Ozzy: "I have some great memories of Australia; I remember getting off the plane and this little girl comes running up to me with a T-shirt that said 'Bugger Off Pommy Bastards'. I knew we were in the right place." 5
