TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS Performs BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST Classics (Video)Fan-filmed video footage of Tim "Ripper" Owens' (DIO DISCIPLES, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) September 19 performance at at Crazy Mama Music Club in Budapest, Hungary and September 29 concert at Korigan in Luynes, France can be seen below.
Released in May 2009, Owens' first solo album, "Play My Game", landed at position No. 66 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The CD was released via SPV/Steamhammer. The offering consists of around a dozen brand-new tracks that Owens composed himself or together with renowned friends, such as Bob Kulick, Chris Caffery (SAVATAGE, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA), Mike Callahan (ex-EARSHOT) and John Comprix (BEYOND FEAR, RINGWORM).
Owens is without doubt among the most important metal vocalists of the past 15 years. When he succeeded Rob Halford, joining JUDAS PRIEST in May 1996, the press rubbed their eyes, surprised as well as impressed: Owens had previously been a fairly unknown quantity to international music journalists and only a few new of him from the band WINTERS BANE, but he recorded his first PRIEST album, the Grammy-nominated "Jugulator" (1997) with more aplomb than even insiders had expected. Following successful tours with the British metal legends, the strong studio recording "Demolition" (2001), and the live recordings, "Meltdown - 98 Live" (1998) and "Live In London" (2003), and the movie "Rock Star" that was loosely based on Tim's experience with JUDAS PRIEST, Halford's return put an end to Owens' stint with JUDAS PRIEST. More or less immediately, he was enlisted by Jon Schaffer to team up with ICED EARTH and sang on "The Glorious Burden" in spring 2004. Three years later, Owens followed suit with the ICED EARTH album "Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Pt. I)", which succeeded the self-titled highly praised debut by his own band BEYOND FEAR. Spring 2008 saw Owens move on to join one of the world's best guitar players Yngwie Malmsteen, debuting with a sensational vocal performance on "Perpetual Flame".

FEN Renew Contract With Code666; New Album ComingUK-based progressive black metallers FEN have not only just finished work on their third full-length album, they have also renewed their contract with Code666 Records (part of the Aural Music Group) for the release of a further three albums.
Formed initially as a studio project in 2006, Fen draws its inspiration from the windswept, desolate landscape of England’s Fen region after which the band was named. By fusing the cold rage of black metal with more reflective influences, Fen succeeds in creating a deeply intense, atmospheric, almost otherworldly sound, redolent of loss and melancholic yearning.
More information about Fen's third full-length album, which is titled Dustwalker, and is a follow up to The Malediction Fields, which appeared in 2009, and Epoch, released in 2011, will be available shortly.
Fen frontman The Watcher had this to say about the new contract: “We have been happy with the way we’ve been treated by Code666 in respect of the first three albums, and were impressed by the enthusiasm that the label has always shown for Fen and the faith they have placed in us, so it was logical for us to continue a relationship that was obviously working well."
Fen will play their first ever date in North America on October 13th, when they appear at the three-day Winter is Coming Festival, taking place between October 12th - 14th in New London, Connecticut.
EVOKEN, VITAL REMAINS, AGALLOCH and SIG:AR:TYR are amongst the 23 bands who will play at the festival, which this year is dedicated to the memory of WOODS OF YPRES frontman David Gold.
Fen’s next European appearance will be at the Aurora Infernalis Festival in Arnhem, Netherlands on October 27th.
'Exile’s Journey' from Fen's Malediction Fields album can be heard below:

Says the band: "The By Our Hand cover was created by artist Travis Smith, who has done work for METALLICA, SLAYER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, DEATH, ICED EARTH, NEVERMORE and many other bands. By combining influences old and new with a knack for writing memorable songs, the band continues to unleash their brand of Metal music on an unsuspecting audience. Acrania's drummer J.C. Chávez stated about the band's new CD: "I think this time we found the 100% right mix, we finally managed to blend such different styles as Latin Jazz & Death/Thrash Metal, you're in for a surprise, imagine a Latin version of Orphaned Land mixed with Atheist, having instruments such as saxophone or trumpet leading the way into the unknown. It's metal, it's groovy, it's filled with fast riffs, double bass attacks and brutal groovy songs!"

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND To Release Sixth Studio Album Via The End RecordsOn Tuesday, February 5th, 2013, The End Records will release the sixth studio album from Britain's FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND.
Titled Conduit, it’s the follow up to 2011’s Welcome Home Armageddon and is the first album since the addition of new drummer Pat Lundy. Funeral For A Friend chose to work with producer Romesh Dodangoda (MOTÖRHEAD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, LOSTPROPHETS) again after their success partnering on the band’s last couple of records.
Vocalist Matthew Davies-Kreye speaks of their working union, “To me he gets our individual personalities and works his magic with each of us, making sure that we're all comfortable with what we have to do for the record.”
Conduit is an album about being in a band and the title reflects what that means to the members of Funeral For A Friend. As Matt puts it, “Five people on a stage, a conduit for the message and the music, delivering that to people who want to listen in, be a part of whatever it is that we're doing and being involved. It's purely about delivering the message. After 10 years of being a band, we see how much what we've done has affected people who care about our stuff. Whether it's lyrics or whatever, these songs transcend us and become something more to a lot more people. It sounds lofty I know but that’s how it feels to us when we meet the folks who dig our band and who treat these songs with so much love and respect. It blows our minds constantly.”
The first single from the album, ‘Best Friends And Hospital Beds’, will be released in the UK on November 12th, following the band’s appearance at the now sold out Vans Warped Tour UK date at London’s Alexandra Palace on November 10th.
Funeral For A Friend tour info can be found here.

Former LUNA MORTIS Singer Announces Return To Live StageMadison, Wisconsin-based vocalist Mary Zimmer — formerly of the band LUNA MORTIS (originally THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE) — has announced her long-anticipated return to the stage.
Zimmer will perform as METAL MARY AND THE HIRED GUNS — a special one-time event with a group of established musicians from the Wisconsin rock and metal scenes — on Saturday, October 13 at The Frequency in Madison.
2010 saw the breakup of the LUNA MORTIS, whose final album, "The Absence", was released via Century Media Records.
Mary's return to the stage is her first major live appearance after the dissolution of the acclaimed Madison metal outfit.
"I am hitting the stage to play with a band for the first time (other than guest appearances) since the breakup of LUNA MORTIS and I am incredibly excited to be sharing the stage with a group of amazing musicians," states Zimmer.
"There will be a lot of firsts at this show, including my first time playing in a formalized band with my sister, Emily Zimmer, on lead guitar. It's also the first time I will be playing and singing at the piano for a song or two in a live band setting.
"I am extremely excited for this event. Everyone in this band is at the absolute top of their game musically, and while it's a one-time show for us, it's going to be one of the most incredible shows we've ever played."
THE HIRED GUNS are:
Emily Zimmer (FREDDIE LEE BAND) - Guitar
Jon Liedtke (FACE OF RUIN, SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY) - Guitar
Jerry Hauppa (CONCENTRIC, NORTHLESS) - Guitar
Brian Van Wychen (WISFITS, ex-ONUS) - Drums
Additionally, a special guest appearance by Grace Meridan of the Chicago band CANDLELIT is planned.
Mary and Grace are both members of the international community of professional female singers, Eve's Apple.
Mary can be heard doing classical/operatic background vocals on the upcoming MOTIONLESS IN WHITE album "Infamous", which is due in November via Fearless Records. The album was produced by Jason Suecof, who was also responsible for production on the final LUNA MORTIS record, "The Absence". 1

QUEEN: 'Hungarian Rhapsody: Live In Budapest' To Receive DVD, Blu-Ray Release In November"Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live In Budapest" is a must–see concert experience by legends of rock QUEEN. It will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, 2CD+DVD Deluxe Edition and a 2CD+Blu-ray Deluxe Edition on November 6 in North America via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Originally filmed in 1986, this momentous concert movie has been re-mastered in high definition and superb 5.1 Surround Sound. An amazing performance is now available to be seen in crystal clear HD clarity.
Also included on the DVD and Blu-ray is a new 25-minute documentary feature entitled "A Magic Year". This follows QUEEN from just after their historic show-stealing performance at Live Aid, London, on July 13, 1985, through the year leading up to the epic concert in Budapest. Using archive footage from rehearsals, interviews with the band in the studio and on the road during the Magic Tour — some of which has never been seen before — this fascinating feature has been specially created for this new release.
As part of the hugely successful 1986 Magic Tour that, poignantly, was the last to be played by the band with Freddie Mercury, QUEEN were for the first time able to include Hungary on the tour schedule. With three years to go before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this was the largest concert ever staged at the Népstadion, Budapest, and the first western rock concert staged in a stadium behind the then Iron Curtain. It was of such significance to the Hungarian authorities and film industry that a group of the country's top film cameramen and technicians were brought together to film it for posterity.
Staged for 80,000 ecstatic fans, the concert set includes favorite hits like "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "I Want To Break Free" and "We Are The Champions".
"We're delighted that QUEEN fans across the world will finally have the chance to relive this amazing moment for the band," said QUEEN's Brian May and Roger Taylor. "We knew a stadium concert in Budapest was ground–breaking, but hadn't quite anticipated what a historic night it would turn out to be. The concert looks fantastic on the screen in all its digitally remastered glory and the documentary does a great job of setting the scene — it really was an extraordinary time in the band's history."

NIGHTWISH: More Fan-Filmed Video Footage Of San Francisco ConcertFan-filmed video footage of NIGHTWISH's October 3 performance at The Warfield in San Francisco, California can be seen below.
Dutch singer Floor Jansen (REVAMP, ex-AFTER FOREVER) made her live debut as the frontwoman of NIGHTWISH on October 1 at Showbox Sodo in Seattle, Washington.
Jansen is handling lead-vocal duties on NIGHTWISH's current North American tour after the group parted ways with Anette Olzon at the end of September.
In a blog post on her official web site at FloorJansen.com, Floor said, "It is now 10 years ago I joined NIGHTWISH on tour with AFTER FOREVER as their support act. We stayed in touch ever since and that made the whole situation so much easier and smooth."
NIGHTWISH stated about the sudden singer switch, "In recent times it has become increasingly obvious that the direction and the needs of the band were in conflict, and this has led to a division from which we cannot recover."
They added, "We are all strongly committed to this journey, this vehicle of spirit, and we are sure that this will lead to a brighter future for everyone.
"We forever remain excited about the adventures to come, and we are extremely proud of the two beautiful albums and the wonderful shows we shared together."
Olzon joined NIGHTWISH in 2007 as the replacement for Tarja Turunen after the latter was fired in 2005. 58

PORCUPINE TREE - Live 2-Disc Set Coming November 20thIt has been over three years since PORCUPINE TREE released it's latest album, The Incident, a collection that marked another step forward in the incredible journey of the band from a solo studio project created by Steven Wilson in the late eighties, to a Grammy nominated act and one of the world's most revered live bands currently selling out arenas across the globe.
Now, Porcupine Tree is proud to announce the impending release of Octane Twisted, a double-disc live set recorded at The Rivera, Chicago, Ill. and Royal Albert Hall, London, UK, to be released in North America on November 20th via Kscope.
Octane Twisted consists of The Incident - the band's 10th studio album - live in its entirety recorded in Chicago. The second CD contains five classic Porcupine Tree tracks also recorded in Chicago, along with three highlights from the band's landmark show at Royal Albert Hall. All the songs were recorded during the tour that supported The Incident, which went Top 30 in both the US and UK in 2009.
A special edition version of Octane Twisted with a bonus DVD of the Chicago performance can be pre-ordered now at this location.
Tracklisting:

Porcupine Tree is unquestionably one of the most difficult-to-categorize and innovative bands working today. The band is fronted by Steven Wilson, who also is well-known for his work producing other artists, from Swedish progressive metal group, Opeth, to Norwegian chanteuse, Anja Garbarek.
The Incident takes the listener on a haunting, desolate, hypnotic and euphoric journey in a way only Porcupine Tree can. One of the only constants in Porcupine Tree's music is how it continues to evolve and confront the expectations of the band's fans from album to album.
Stay tuned for more information on Porcupine Tree and Octane Twisted, out this fall on Kscope.

MERCYFUL FATE Guitarist MICHAEL DENNER To Perform With SNOWY SHAW In SwedenLegendary MERCYFUL FATE/KING DIAMOND guitarist Michael Denner is one of the guest musicians who will perform with Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw at a special Halloweeen concert event on November 3 at Sparbankshallen in Varberg, Sweden:
Snowy's backing band will be as follows:
* Mark U Black (M.A.N., ex-DREAM EVIL, KUNG DIAMANT) - Lead Guitar
* Petter Karlsson (ex-THERION, DIABLO SWING ORCHESTRA) - Drums
* Vikki Valkyrie (ex-ICE AGE, THEM SLUTS) - Bass
Snowy states: "Like last time around, I'm delighted and grateful to be joined on stage by some of the best friends from my former bands… and I'm looking forward to one helluva kick-ass performance with a specially designed Halloween theme that will make last year's performance seem like a band practice by comparison."
Shaw's live album, "Snowy Shaw Is Alive!", was released last December via iTunes. The CD was recorded during his May 27, 2011 concert at the Brew House in Gothenburg, Sweden , which saw Snowy performing "all his favorite songs" from "all his former bands" — including KING DIAMOND, NOTRE DAME, DREAM EVIL, MERCYFUL FATE, THERION, MEMENTO MORI, ILLWILL, XXX and DIMMU BORGIR — and featured guest appearances by the following musicians:
* Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND, ILLWILL)
* Mike Wead (BIBLEBLACK, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE)
* Hal Patino (KING DIAMOND)
* Mats Levén (THERION, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, TREAT, KRUX)
* Thomas Vikström (CANDLEMASS)
* Kee Marcello (EUROPE)
* Jackie Patino (a.k.a. Maryann Cotton)
Snowy's backing band consisted of the following players:
* Kristian Niemann (ex-THERION) - Lead Guitar
* Mannequin De Sade (ex-NOTRE DAME, ENGEL) - Drums
* Elvira - Bass
The "Snowy Shaw Is Alive!" artwork was created by Snowy Shaw, with illustration by Andrej Bartulovic.
Due to the "astonishing response" and many offers from festival promoters and booking agencies, Snowy has decided to postpone the release of the DVD version of the Brew House concert "with the intention of having even more material filmed and included from the upcoming shows," according to a press release.
