Genre defying Denton, TX-based experimental noise merchants SURROUNDED BY MONSTERS have unveiled the artwork for their Nuclear Blast debut, Novella. The image was created by artist Rick McDonald.

"The concept of the album art was derived from three song titles on the album, ‘You Dirty Rat’, ‘Ask Mr. Owl’ and ‘Sending The Wolf’,” explained the band. “The art features three animalistic characters that symbolize the different themes or emotions of each of the three songs and ultimately the album."

The German Empire met with La Torre while on European Tour with Crimson Glory. The new Queensrÿche singer gave details on how he met Queensrÿche guitarist Michael Wilton and how RISING WEST started out as a side project. Guitarist Sander Gommans (ex-AFTER FOREVER) has checked in with the following update regarding the clip below:

Due to setting up our company building of The Rock Station (starting from October 1st) and some other projects it took a while, but it'll be done before the end of the year. The new HDK album is being recorded at Eternia Studios and is the follow-up to System Overload from 2009.
Gommans recently commented on how the forthcoming HDK album is shaping up:

"System Overload was full of agression and experiments, this album will be a return to the After Forever sound with more heavy elements-more guitar oriented. The songwriting I did for After Forever, HDK, Trillium and various other projects have led to this record, and I really excited about the input of the awesome musicians I´m working with this time."

It features Amanda Kiernan, who is the band's touring vocalist while Stu Block fulfills his tour commitments with ICED EARTH.
Following is an excerpt from BW&BK's recent interview with Kiernan and guitarist/founder Tim Roth:

journey began in November 2011 when Into Eternity put out the call for a “touring only” singer. She jumped in with both feet.

“I found out about the audition and called (Into Eternity drummer) Brian Newbury right away,” Kiernan says. “I just wanted to push myself to the top and prove to myself and others that I can actually do this, and that there are no limitations. After I called him we both went to my studio and spent two days recording the audition songs that Tim (Roth/guitars, founder) wanted me to do.”

Roth recalls the events leading up to having to place the ad that eventually snared Kiernan...

“We (the band) were rehearsing on a Friday, and after a whole weekend of rehearsals Stu hit me with the news that he’d joined Iced Earth. And then he hit me with a CD of him singing some new Iced Earth stuff. So not only did he tell me, he showed me some of the material they’d already recorded. I was just floored. Stu and I are best friends, and we weren’t doing anything at the time, so it makes sense that someone would come in and invite Stu to join their band. Jon Schaffer (guitars) knows talent, I know talent, and Stu has always been that shining diamond in the rough. When I’d seen him in his previous band he really impressed me. I knew I had to have a guy with his kind of vocals in Into Eternity.”
There was, of course, a truckload of trepidation on Kiernan's part going in. Block didn’t get snatched up by Iced Earth for putting in a half-assed effort, and his vocal acrobatics set the bar out of reach for many seasoned metal singers.

“It’s very intimidating because they’re big shoes to fill,” Kiernan agrees. “I’ve been listening to Into Eternity since high school, and I even remember when Stu joined the band. I wasn’t very happy about that, so I understand how everyone would be feeling right now. Then again, I can’t believe that I get the honour to take on such an amazing opportunity. I don’t know… why me? But I’m so thankful and I’m going to give it all I’ve got. It’s a huge challenge singing Stu’s parts. It really helps that I’ve been in my other band, THE ORDER OF CHAOS, for seven years, so it’s almost like I got a head start. But then again, these Into Eternity vocals are a whole new level for me.”

Block is still a member of Into Eternity, but Roth is a realist. Iced Earth isn’t a disposable weekend warrior garage band, and it’s very possible that Block may one day be forced to ditch Into Eternity if he wants to keep what’s now his day job.

“That’s how it could end up,” Roth agrees, “but we don’t want to close the door because you never know what’s going to happen. Maybe in two or three years Jon Schaffer will decide he wants to work with someone else. Or maybe Stu will go off and do a solo thing rather than come back to Into Eternity. I mean, he’s at that level now where… why would he really have to come back? At the same time, he loves Into Eternity’s music and he has an emotional attachment to the songs that he helped to write. We’re hopeful, but at the same time we have to move forward because Iced Earth is blowing up now with Stu up front.”

MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil played the show in Toronto after sustaining two fractures in his foot during Wednesday night's show in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

MÖTLEY CRÜE and KISS's tour — dubbed simply "The Tour" — kicked off on July 20 in Bristow, Virginia and is currently scheduled to wrap on September 23 in Hartford, Connecticut. Although the bands are officially co-headlining the tour, MÖTLEY CRÜE is opening for KISS each night.

In July, MÖTLEY CRÜE released "Sex", the first studio track from the band since the June 2008 release of "Saints Of Los Angeles". The song was recorded in part at CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee's studio called The Atrium in Calabasas, California.

SEX PISTOLS will release a special vinyl version of the album Never Mind The Bollocks Here’s The Sex Pistols, as a double LP on coloured vinyl, on September 24th.

The double album will feature one pink and one yellow disc. The release is limited to 1,977 copies worldwide.

KILL DEVIL HILL is the new band featuring legendary drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, KILL DEVIL HILL) alongside Rex Brown (PANTERA, DOWN) on bass, Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) on guitar and Jason "Dewey" Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) on vocals.

The self-titled debut album from KILL DEVIL HILL sold around 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 9 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Kill Devil Hill" was produced by Warren Riker, who is best known for his work with DOWN, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, SUBLIME and CATHEDRAL. The effort was made available in a standard CD edition, as an iTunes digital download, and double gatefold LP.

Swiss folk metallers ELUVEITIE and Wintersun will co-headline a North American tour this winter. The trek will commemorate Eluveitie’s 10th anniversary as well as serve as Wintersun’s introduction to North American shores. Also included on the tour will be German pagan metal band VARG.

Asked about the band's decision to work with J. Robbins on "Apocryphon" after self-producing two records and then working with Matt Bayles, THE SWORD guitarist Kyle Shutt told AltPress.com, "We're all huge CLUTCH fans, and we know those guys real well. [James] did two of their last three records, and those sound great, so we figured it was a no-brainer. We called him up and he was into it. He saw our live show at a club in Baltimore on the tour before we came here so he could get a feel of the kind of show we put on because we wanted to make an album that sounds like we do live in a club. And it was great. It was a real speedy process."

On the topic of the musical direction of the new album, Shutt said, "It is a reflection of everything that we [have gone] through and the lessons we learned. We then deal with these situations metaphorically in our lyrics. This record is just 10 banging hard rockers. There's no real 'stick-out' thrash song, or, like, this one is the ballad. I don't think there's going to be any instrumental songs on this record, either, so that'll be a first for us. It's just 10 kick-ass rock songs."

Regarding the subject matter covered in the new songs' lyrics, Shutt said, "There are lyrical themes that weave in and out of the songs, but there's no story or anything like that. With 'Warp Riders', J.D. [guitarist/vocalist John Cronise] had already written [the story] and now he [doesn't] have the time to sit down and write another book. We had the idea to make a comic book for 'Warp Riders', but we had some really poor management at the time, so nothing really came together with that and it was going to cost so much money that it never saw the light of day. It was just a nice thing we did. Now we're moving on to other things."

A short preview of "Mechanical Mind", a brand new song from Canadian metal innovators VOIVOD, is available in the YouTube clip below. The track will be released on October 9 (one day earlier internationally) as a digital single and a limited-edition seven-inch single-sided vinyl with a skull etching by VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin on the B-side.

"Mechanical Mind" comes off VOIVOD's new album, "Target Earth", which will be released on January 22, 2013 (one day earlier internationally) via VOIVOD's own company, Iron Gang Factory, and Century Media.

Commented VOIVOD: "Our goal has been to find a partner for Iron Gang Factory to help get new VOIVOD music to the world and Century Media, we are proud to say, is the right company to do so globally. We can't wait to release tour and promote 'Target Earth'."

"Target Earth" was recorded in January at Pierre Rémillard's (OBLIVEON, CRYPTOPSY, KRISIUN, MISERY INDEX) Wild Studio in a small town called St-Zénon in Quebec, Canada. The follow-up to 2009's "Infini" will contain the band's first music to be written with new guitarist Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain (MARTYR) following the passing of original axeman Denis "Piggy" D'Amour in 2005.

VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin recently unveiled the band's new logo which will be used on the upcoming CD. Check it out below.

According to a posting on the page, fans can "expect something in the vein of 'Nothingface' with some elements from the other albums. It will be a classic VOIVOD album."

Regarding what the new VOIVOD songs sound like, Mongrain said in a recent interview, "As a VOIVOD fan since I am 12 years old and early rise of VOIVOD in late '80s and everything, I think… I'm in conflict of interest right now. [Laughs] I like the old stuff as much as the new stuff, so I think it's a blend of everything. It's really a team work and Blacky [Jean-Yves Thériault] is back on the 'blower bass' — he's got the original sound — and we're having a blast jamming, improvising and writing. I think it's working pretty good."

On the topic of the lyrical themes covered in the new VOIVOD tracks, singer Denis "Snake" Bélanger said, "The song we played [on the recent European tour] ['Kaleidos'] is about conspiracy involving drugs and the FBI… [Laughs] It's hard to describe because we're kind of early in the process. There's another song called 'Target Earth', which is more like a spacy, conspiracy, controlling the information around the world. The main thing is the 'war' of information. You know, somebody Osama Bin Laden is dead, someone [else] says he's not… It gets to a point where everybody has his own story and nobody is sure what the truth is. There's people above everything controlling the information."

In an interview with Exclaim.ca, Away stated about VOIVOD's forthcoming studio album, "It's more in the progressive metal vein, so it's reminiscent of the 'Dimension Hatröss' era."

VOIVOD debuted the "Target Earth" title track during their April 12 concert at the Roadburn festival at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland.

VOIVOD will embark on a European headlining tour in October. They will also play several shows in Spain as the support act for ARCH ENEMY.

GORGOROTH guitarist Infernus fired the band's lead singer, Pest, last month after the frontman informed the band that he "would not be prioritizing doing the Latin American tour after all, just two weeks before the band was set to depart for Brazil," according to a statement released by the group. Handling lead vocals on GORGOROTH's South American tour is Hoest of TAAKE.

The vocals on GORGOROTH's next studio album, "Instinctus Bestalis", will be laid down by a "Serbian Satanist" known as Atterigner of the band TRIUMFALL (Forces of Satan Records).

MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson has uploaded behind-the-scenes video footage from the band's two-night run (September 13-14) at Estadio Cubierto Malvinas Argentinas in Buenos Aires. Check out the seven-minute clip below.

MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman Vince Neil joined the CRÜE tribute band CRÜED on stage last night (Thursday, September 13) at the Courthouse in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to perform two songs: "Smokin' In The Boys Room" and "Wild Side". The event served as Vince's official after-party following the KISS/MÖTLEY CRÜE show at the Molson Amphitheater In Toronto.

BLACK LIGHT BURNS, the avant-garde alter ego of LIMP BIZKIT guitarist Wes Borland, has released an extended music video for the track "How To Look Naked", the first single from BLB's sophomore album, "The Moment You Realize You're Going To Fall". The CD landed at position No. 20 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
