LITA FORD Performs Acoustically On Iowa

LITA FORD Performs Acoustically On Iowa's LAZER 103.3 (Video)

'80s hard rock queen Lita Ford and her touring guitarist, Mitch Perry, performed a short acoustic set on August 28 at the studios of the Des Moines, Iowa radio station Lazer 103.3. Video footage of her appearance can be seen below.

Lita's new solo album, "Living Like A Runaway", was released on June 19 in North America via SPV/Steamhammer. The effort was made available in four configurations: a double LP, limited-edition CD, standard CD and digital download. The artwork for the album was created by famed rock photographer Mark Weiss.

In a recent interview with Über Röck. Lita stated about "Living Like A Runaway", "This was an album I wrote during one of the darkest times of my life. I was going through this divorce and I needed somewhere to channel my feelings. My hurt, my pain, my aggression, my sadness, my happiness... all of these feelings are in this record. When you listen to the tracks, they are believable because they are real. . . It just came together; it was like a gift from God, this album. It took a year to write, it was a slow process, seeming like two years, and it came to me a piece at a time."

Lita has previously referred to "Living Like A Runaway" as her "real comeback album." She explained, "The last album I did was called 'Wicked Wonderland'. I put it out with Jim Gillette, and we were married at the time. It is kind of a Jim/Lita album and not a really true Lita album. I got a lot of spiel about that. . . I really wasn't that comfortable with that record — not at all, to tell you the truth. There are parts of it that are good, but it doesn't sound like a Lita record. When it got released, a lot of my fans felt weird about it and said it wasn't a Lita album. [It] turned out to be more of a Jim album. We worked pretty well together. It doesn't suck, it's not a bad album; it's just not a Lita album."

Lita's current touring band consists of the following musicians:

Lita Ford - Guitar, Vocals
Mitch Perry - Guitar
Marty O'Brien - Bass
Scot Coogan - Drums

ORGY To Release

ORGY To Release 'Grime Of The Century' Single In September

ORGY, the reactivated "death pop" band from California, is preparing to release "Grime Of The Century", its first new single in over seven years. The track, which was recorded at NRG Recording and Entourage studios in North Hollywood, California, will be made available digitally on September 4 and as a physical CD on September 10.

ORGY will promote the single release by embarking on three-to-five-week tour in November. Additional dates in "major markets" will take place at the end of 2012 and in early 2013.

An audio sample of "Grime Of The Century" is available below.

Several photos from the studio can be found at WireImage.com.

ORGY canceled the last five shows of its spring "Bad Blood Tour 2012" "due to high demand for new music."

Joining vocalist and sole remaining original member Jay Gordon in ORGY's new lineup are Carlton Bost (DEADSY, THE DREAMING, LUNARCLICK) on guitar, Ashburn Miller (DEADSY) on guitar, Nic Speck (RUN RUN RUN) on bass and Jamie Miller (SNOT, THE START) on drums.

In a recent interview with Icon Vs. Icon, Gordon was asked what the catalyst was for rebooting and moving forward with the project. "Ya know, it had just been too long," he said. "I was really interested in getting back out on the road. That was the first thing I wanted to do. It had been so long, I just wanted to get out there, brush the rust off and roll with it to see what happens. To do that you have to have a band and start playing gigs right away and that is exactly what I did."

On the topic of ORGY's new members, Jay said, "The new lineup is amazing! I don't plan on looking back, let's put it that way, they are that good. They are all amazing artists. Both guitar players, Carlton Bost and Ashburn Miller, came from DEADSY. The bass player, Nic Speck came from RUN RUN RUN. The drummer, Jamie Miller, is from SNOT and THE START. He is an amazing drummer! All of the guys are truly amazing performers and we get along great."

MÖTLEY CRÜE Can

MÖTLEY CRÜE Can't Commit To New Album

MÖTLEY CRÜE recently released a brand new song called "Sex" to coincide with the launch of the band's North American co-headlining tour with KISS. But CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx tells Billboard.com that there are currently no plans for the group to record a full album's worth of material.

"It takes time to put together music," Sixx said. "Right now we're just writing music. There's tons of material always there — there's riffs for days, ideas, choruses here, verses there. For us, it's how many songs have we written (and) how many do we love and what do we want to do with them? It's about finding the time to go home, be off the road, get everybody in a room and start riffing and see where it does."

Written when the band was together during their residency in Las Vegas last February, "Sex" was the first studio track from the CRÜE since their June 2008 release of "Saints Of Los Angeles".

"We happened to have this song everyone was really excited about, so instead of saying, 'Let's add it to the pile of songs we have and we'll sort 'em out later,' we were, 'Hey, let's finish this one up,'" Sixx told Billboard.com. "We got it out there for the fans, for the tour, and it's exciting for the band to play something new. We love the classics and the hits, and I know the fans love that, too, but to be able to play something new is great.

"We wanted to save that big push for when we do (an album)," he added, "but the way the song is connecting with people feels like the way the music used to connect with people when we were a baby band and just had our first record out. The song really seems to work."

SLASH Talks About His Mother

SLASH Talks About His Mother's Relationship with DAVID BOWIE (Audio)

While Slash was in Australia playing shows across the country, he dropped by the studios of Australia's long-running radio station Triple M to share a few stories, including one that involved one of the great frontmen in rock.

The GUNS N' ROSES legend told the station about a time when he was a kid that he walked in on his mother — a costume designer who made outfits for the likes of David Bowie, John Lennon and Ringo Starr — and Bowie stark naked.

"My mom started working professionally with David Bowie at first. I'm pretty sure that's how it started and then it turned into some sort of mysterious romance that went on for a while after that," Slash laughed. "I was seven or eight years old. [Bowie] was always over and they were always together."

He continued, "I caught them naked once. They had a lot of stuff going on, but my perspective at eight was limited. Looking back on it, I knew eaxctly what was going on."

LAMB OF GOD Announces eBay Memorabilia Auction for RANDY BLYTHE Defense Fund

LAMB OF GOD Announces eBay Memorabilia Auction for RANDY BLYTHE Defense Fund

While LAMB OF GOD singer Randy Blythe is back home in America after five weeks in prison in the Czech Republic, his legal problems are far from over. Manslaughter charges are still hanging over Blythe, and at some point over the next few months he will have to return to Prague and stand trial. Faced with continuing massive legal bills, LAMB OF GOD has decided to create an eBay auction of equipment and memorabilia to raise money for Randy's legal bills. All equipment was either used on tour or in the recording studio or in a video. The auction features items provided by all five members of LAMB OF GOD. In addition, a number of musicians have offered equipment to be used in the auction. Guitars have been donated by MACHINE HEAD's Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel as well as Slash and FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH. MEGADETH's David Ellefson and FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's Chris Kael have each contributed a bass and the members of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH also have contributed a signed skateboard.

Justice Now, the site set up for donations, will remain open for those wishing to donate to Randy's defense fund.

LAMB OF GOD appreciates all of the support Randy has received since his arrest on June 28 and is thankful for all of the donations that have been made in these tough economic times.

As stated before, without the fans, there is no LAMB OF GOD.

Click here for the link to the LAMB OF GOD memorabilia site and here for the link to the Justice Now site.

Blythe was released from a prison in Prague on August 2, more than a month after he was arrested and incarcerated. Blythe was facing the possibility of conviction and a long-term jail sentence after a 2010 incident in which a fan attending a LAMB OF GOD show died almost a month later, allegedly from injuries sustained when he was thrown off the stage. Blythe's predicament galvanized the heavy rock community, with artists across the hard rock genre pledging their support.

Interviewed by a Czech media outlet before boarding the plane to go home, Blythe said, "I'm relieved to be out of jail but if it's necessary for me to return to Prague to go to this court thing, I certainly will, I'm no flight risk."

Blythe added that he had no memory at all of the incident in question, saying, "I feel very bad that a fan of my band is dead and his family has to go through it, it's terrible, I feel awful for them but it's a tragic coincidence . . . we had no knowledge whatsoever that someone had been injured much less died."

The case is expected to be heard in court in December.

LAMB OF GOD returned to the live stage on August 17 in Council Bluffs, Iowa as part of SLIPKNOT's first-ever Knotfest, an extraordinary two-date metal and hard rock festival.

Blythe and his bandmates are already rescheduling a canceled U.S. tour for October.

"Simone is just a cool kid, he is cooler than most." said McKagan. "It's not about me or any grown-ups."

"Tonight is about making him feel like a rock star," said Wish manager Jessie Elenbaas.

"[Simone] is very fragile right now, but his prognosis is good. He is getting better," added Elenbaas. "I hope this night helps cushion what he's been going through.

Former RAINBOW/DIO Bassist Arrested For DUI And Prescription Medication

According to TMZ.com, former DIO/RAINBOW bassist Jimmy Bain (full name: James Stewart Bain) was arrested last night for DUI and illegally possessing prescription medication.

Bain, 64, got into a minor accident in his '95 Toyota Camry around 9:30 p.m. and failed a field sobriety test administered by responding police officers. The cops also found Vicodin pills that were not prescribed to Bain.

Bain was arrested and booked for misdemeanor DUI and felony possession of prescription medication.

Bain, who also had an outstanding drug warrant, was released on $60,000 bail.

Bain was previously arrested in Hollywood, California on December 16, 2005 — just three days shy of his 58th birthday — on charges of driving while under the influence.

In an interview with The Cutting Edge web magazine believed to have been conducted sometime in 2003, Bain spoke openly about his battle with drug and alcohol abuse and his efforts to get cleaned up. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

The Cutting Edge: Not everyone knows you’ve had quite a battle with drug and alcohol abuse yourself. How has your life change since you've cleaned up?

Bain: "The most important thing is that I've got my family back. My mother and father both passed away in the last three years but they were able to see me clean. I have a wonderful woman in my life and my beautiful daughter. I was happy that they were able to see that I could do it. I've come to appreciate life more on a day-to-day basis. Every day that I have, as long as I stay clean, is positive for me. I'm very active now in helping others. I visit hospitals and jails and I do panel discussions to help others recover. Not as a member of DIO, but as a guy whose been through it and can shed some light on the recovery. You do it because you want to help people who are in the same position you were at some point."

The Cutting Edge: What was it for you that turned you around?

Bain: "A judge. He saved my life. When you're taking drugs, you are spiritually bankrupt. You're like the walking dead. You're not committed to anything accept getting high. Since I got clean, I feel I'm a better writer and player now. I can focus. I've recorded over 60 albums and only made two clean. The last two."

BENEDICTUM Vocalist To Guest On New A SOUND OF THUNDER EP

BENEDICTUM Vocalist To Guest On New A SOUND OF THUNDER EP

Washington, D.C.-based heavy metallers A SOUND OF THUNDER are now offering their new EP, "Queen Of Hell", exclusively through Kickstarter.com. The EP serves as a follow-up to the 2012 studio album, "Out Of The Darkness", and teaser for the band's next studio CD, "Time's Arrow", due in spring 2013.

"Queen Of Hell" was produced by Kevin "131" Gutierrez (SHINEDOWN, WHILE HEAVEN WEPT, DECEASED) at Assembly Line Studios in Virginia. A SOUND OF THUNDER guitarist Josh Schwartz states, "We had too much great material for our next album and weren't willing to shelve it, so the EP was a no-brainer. It gives us a great reward to offer the fans who support our fundraising campaign for the next album, and reduces the wait time for new music from the band."

A preview of the new release is available below.

BENEDICTUM vocalist Veronica Freeman makes an appearance on the "Queen Of Hell" EP, performing a duet with A SOUND OF THUNDER vocalist Nina Osegueda on the title track.

"Veronica is a real metal monster of a vocalist, and has the power and presence to deliver this kind of classic metal," said Schwartz. "She is a true queen of metal and together with Nina, your speakers might just explode!" .

Freeman commented: "Sometimes I get asked to do a special project and I have to give it a bit of thought, but with Nina, having performed with her on stage before and knowing how she can 'bring it,' I knew it was not only going to be a lot of fun, but that it would be some kick-ass music to work with. It was a real honor to be asked to work with her and A SOUND OF THUNDER. Hmmmmm, hope to do something more in the future... you never know!!"

The cover art for "Queen Of Hell" was created by Serbian artist Dušan Markovic and can be seen below.

"We've always wanted to do an homage to the classic fantasy and swords & sorcery themed metal album covers," says Osegueda. "As you can see, we've gone all horns up with the 'Queen Of Hell' art... I finally have the throne of skulls I've always wanted!"

On August 20, A SOUND OF THUNDER started a Kickstarter.com fundraiser campaign for the recording of "Time's Arrow". The campaign will run for 30 days and offers fans a chance to pre-order the album, have their name printed in the album booklet, reserve an ultra-limited box set edition of the album, and acquire unique and rare items from the band.

KORN Guitarist: We

KORN Guitarist: We've Never Considered Ourselves 'Nu-Metal'

Shawn Fernandes of GibsonGuitar.in recently conducted an interview with KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

GibsonGuitar.in: When KORN started out in the early '90s, you were right at the front of the nu-metal movement. Almost two decades later, nu-metal and many of its most famous acts have fallen by the wayside but KORN's still alive and kicking. What's kept KORN going all this while?

Munky: We've never considered ourselves "nu-metal," or any particular genre for that matter. When we came out, certain media outlets coined that phrase to group all these bands together, but we've always tried to do our own thing. We love metal, but also incorporate hip-hop, funk, electronic music, and try to keep challenging ourselves to be different and push our own boundaries with our music. I think that's kept us in a good creative space that our amazing fans have been so supportive of, thankfully.

GibsonGuitar.in: With your current album, "The Path Of Totality", KORN has made a massive shift, diving into the world of electronica and dubstep. What triggered the change?

Munky: Jonathan Davis, our singer, has always been into electronic music, and was a DJ in high school before he joined KORN. When we were looking for a new direction for our next album, Jonathan came to me, sat down and started playing the wildest, most interesting music I had heard in a while. "What is that??" I asked. He told me it was this DJ named Skrillex. He asked if we wanted to incorporate these sounds into our next album, and I was all for it. We were very fortunate to be able to work with all these incredibly talented electronic music producers for the album, and it came together in a way that we were very happy about.

GibsonGuitar.in: A lot of KORN's music over the years have been inspired by experiences from life. How hard is it to maintain that level of well, rage when you're now well-off, reasonably happy rock stars? Or do you just find other sources to inspire the music?

Munky: We are definitely all in a different space than when we were 20 years old. [laughs] We have kids now, are older, more mature. But like anyone, we all have conflict in our lives, things that drive us or fuel our creativity. I know Jonathan channels a lot of real pain and emotion into all of his lyrics, even to this day. We're still making music because we have something we want to express, not because we "have to."

GibsonGuitar.in: How different is a KORN tour now from the way it used to be in the '90s? Is the band better behaved now? Are the tour buses/hotel rooms quieter now?

Munky: [laughs] Definitely! We are more mature, better behaved, quieter, and less drama. I think we've also grown as musicians from playing for so many years. We all have families and enjoy each other's company, and the road is a less hectic place than it was when we started out.
