ALL THAT REMAINS: 'Stand Up' Lyric Video ReleasedMassachusetts metallers ALL THAT REMAINS will release their new album, "A War You Cannot Win", on November 6 via Razor & Tie/Prosthetic. The CD sees the band reunited with longtime producer Adam Dutkiewicz (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, AS I LAY DYING, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE). The record is the culmination of an intense writing period for the group that began shortly after their 18-month tour in support of "For We Are Many".
The "A War You Cannot Win" cover artwork was created by Paul R. Brown (STONE SOUR, SLIPKNOT, MÖTLEY CRÜE, KORN, GODSMACK, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) and can be seen below. Also available is the lyric video for the album's first single, "Stand Up".
Commented ALL THAT REMAINS singer Phil Labonte: "We really busted our asses and tried to do some new stuff (like we always do) and we're really happy about what came out of it. Some of it is pretty different and is REALLY gonna blow you guys away. Some of it is gonna sound just like what you expect from ALL THAT REMAINS. And I'm sure all of it is gonna make the Internet have a conniption fit!"
Dutkiewicz previously helmed ALL THAT REMAINS' last album, 2010's "For We Are Many", as well as 2004's "This Darkened Heart" and 2006's "The Fall of Ideals".
In a recent interview with the Colorado Springs, Colorado radio station 94.3 KILO, Labonte stated about "A War You Cannot Win", "I don't like to get too involved in tooting my own horn, but I think that we really wrote some killer songs. I mean, there's gonna be people with different opinions that are gonna go ahead and make comments based on their opinions and what they think we should have done, and that's all fine. But if you get past that and just look at the record for what it is and listen to the songs for what they are and judge them on their own merits as opposed to, 'I wanted you to write this record,' or 'I wanted the record to sound like this and it doesn't sound like what I wanted you to write a record to sound like,' if you just look at the songs and the material that's actually there, we really did a good job. There's gonna be critics out there that are gonna be like, 'Well, ALL THAT REMAINS, in my opinion, should have done this.' But the hilarious part is they're not in ALL THAT REMAINS, so no one gives a fuck [what they think]. And that's the thing about people on the Internet and blogs. Like, 'Oh, you should have done this. You should have done that. And blah blah blah.' Guess who's not in the band? You. Shut up, f****t. Seriously. Are you gonna sit there and be like, 'Ah, I think you should have done this. And I think you should have done that.' We don't give a fuck! We did what we wanted to do. So if you don't like it, s**k a d**k. I don't care. If you listen to the songs themselves and really base an opinion on the music that you're listening to without the bias of, 'I think you should have done this,' or 'I think you should have done that,' or 'I wanted your next record to sound like this,' or 'I wanted that,' and just listen to the stuff that we wrote, it's a killer album; it's great. It's a really, really well-put-together record. The songs are really strong, the melodies are all really cool, the hooks are there, there's heavy parts that really kind of pummel you a little bit. It's really there."
"For We Are Many" sold 29,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The band's previous CD, "Overcome", opened with just under 29,000 units in September 2008 to enter The Billboard 200 chart at No. 16.

In other news, Decibel magazine profiles one of ISIS' landmark albums, "Oceanic", in the magazine's September issue. The seven-page interview with all five bandmembers (Jeff Caxide, Mike Gallagher, Aaron Harris, Clifford Meyer and Aaron Turner) speaks to the "sea change" that "Oceanic" was for heavy music. Albert Mudrian, editor-in-chief for Decibel, explains: "ISIS may have left a massive void in heavy music's body when they sailed away for good a couple of years ago, but the ripples of 'Oceanic' continue to cause waves a decade after its release."
Harris, Caxide and Meyer recently partnered with Chino Moreno (DEFTONES) to form PALMS. The band's debut album will be out in early 2013 via Ipecac.
Turner's OLD MAN GLOOM released "No" in late June and he will be touring Japan this September with MAMIFFER.
Gallagher continues on with his solo project MGR as well as scoring films, most recently "22nd Of May". 2

TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS, BLAZE BAYLEY, MIKE VESCERA Featured On New SOULSPELL Album"Hollow's Gathering" features guest appearances by Tim "Ripper" Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH), Blaze Bayley (WOLFSBANE, IRON MAIDEN), Michael Vescera (OBSESSION, LOUDNESS, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN), Amanda Sommerville (TRILLIUM, AVANTASIA), Markus Grosskopf (HELLOWEEN) and many others. The album was mixed by Matt Smith (THEOCRACY) and mastered by Miro at the Gate studio (AVANTASIA, KAMELOT, RHAPSODY) in Wolfsburg, Germany. The artwork was created by Felipe Machado Franco (BLIND GUARDIAN, RHAPSODY OF FIRE, ICED EARTH).
SOULSPELL was conceived by drummer Heleno Vale. Many vocalists play different characters in a story concerning the conflicts among human emotions. These characters face situations of internal conflict as they are requested for making decisions which, without their knowledge, affect and change the course of the present, future, and even past of all the other characters.
The SOULSPELL story intends to make us wonder how a fifteen-year-old boy, a powerful evil dragon, or even a simple humble lumberjack, by simply living and believing, can interfere in the lives of all in every possible dimension.
Check out an album teaser below.
"Hollow's Gathering" track listing:
01. Hollow's Gathering
02. A Rescue Into The Storm
03. To Crawl Or To Fly

ENSLAVED: Official 'Thoughts Like Hammers' Lyric Video AvailableThe official lyric video for "Thoughts Like Hammers", the opening track on "RIITIIR", the twelfth studio album from Norwegian progressive extreme metallers ENSLAVED, can be seen below. The CD will be released in Europe on September 28 and in North America on October 9 via Nuclear Blast Records.
A track-by-track review of "RIITIIR" is available at Terrorizer.com.
"It has been only two years since we last released an album [2010's award-winning 'Axioma Ethica Odini'], and we've been touring Europe and North America several times since then," reflects ENSLAVED guitarist, songwriter, and founding member Ivar Bjørnson. "Some might think that this schedule, and the fact that we celebrated our 20th anniversary last year, should result in some time off in the end. Nah. Like a space vessel that gains momentum by entering slingshot-orbits on its way through space, we seem to gain speed, direction, and strength on our journeys, through new releases and subsequent tours.
"Describing the sound on the new album is both easy and hard," Bjørnson continues. "It is easy because it sounds like ENSLAVED, whatever that means. It is hard because there are so many layers and different focal points. I have a feeling that it has a deeper complexity than our previous efforts, but at the same time, I do find it more catchy and moving. Then again, I am the opposite of objective in this, so again I'll leave it up to the people outside the band to make up their mind."
The track listing for the "RIITIIR" European and North American digipak is as follows:
01. Thoughts Like Hammers
02. Death In The Eyes Of Dawn
03. Veilburner
04. Roots Of The Mountain
05. Riitiir
06. Materal
07. Storm Of Memories
08. Forsaken
The track listing for the "RIITIIR" 2LP double-gatefold is as follows:
Side A:
01. Thoughts Like Hammers
02. Death In The Eyes Of Dawn
Side B:
01. Veilburner
02. Roots Of The Mountain
Side C:
01. Riitiir
02. Materal
Side D:
01. Storm Of Memories
02. Forsaken
The cover artwork for "RIITIIR" was once again created by Truls Espedal and can be seen below. He stated about his latest collaboration with the band, "ENSLAVED's music is constantly evolving and expanding, and we early on decided that the artwork should reflect this. From my first collaboration with the band on [2001's] 'Monumension' and forward, we have slowly merged different aspects into the work; what we wanted to do now was to further expand and change things up a bit, without losing the connection to earlier work. It still has a strong sense of symbolism, symmetrical compositions and references to Norse art. But there is an even bigger emphasis on realism on 'RIITIIR', which hopefully adds atmosphere to the finished work."
ENSLAVED's last two CDs — "Vertebrae" (2008) and "Axioma Ethica Odini" (2010) — were released via Indie Recordings in Europe and Nuclear Blast in North America. 1

Report: Accused Teenager Gunman Was 'Obsessed' With RAMMSTEINAccording to New York's Daily News, the 15-year-old accused of shooting a classmate at a suburban Baltimore high school on the first day of school was "obsessed" with the German industrial metal band RAMMSTEIN.
Bobby Gladden was arrested Monday (August 27) after allegedly opening fire in the lunchroom at Perry Hall High School. Police say he critically injured a fellow student, Daniel Borowy, before guidance counselor Jesse Wasmer tackled Gladden and took the gun away.
Gladden, who listed his nickname as "SuicidalSmile" on his Facebook page, posted the following status update the morning of the shooting: "First day of school, last day of my life. ... fuck the world."
Gladden described himself as a "metalhead" and a fan of MARILYN MANSON and SLIPKNOT, and had picture of RAMMSTEIN frontman Till Lindemann as his Facebook "cover photo."
Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson said at a news conference that Gladden rode to school on the bus with a bag containing a disassembled shotgun, 21 rounds of ammunition and a bottle of vodka.

TWISTED SISTER Frontman: 'I Have No Other Choice Than To Vote For OBAMA'TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider, who recently slammed presumptive Vice Presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan using the band's 1984 signature tune "We're Not Gonna Take It" at a recent rally, has posted the following message on Twitlonger.com, a related Twitter site that allows one to send tweets that require more than 140 characters:
"Since there is so much interest in what I think, ponder this: I am an entertainer, not a politician or news reporter. I don't expect people to care or even listen to my political thoughts or position. I have no party affiliation and I vote for what I believe to be the best choice I am offered each time.
"Four years ago I was a supporter of John McCain… until he picked Sarah Palin as his running mate. Given the Republican offering this presidential election — particularly with an extremist like Paul Ryan attached to the ticket — I have no other choice than to vote for Obama. Not voting isn't an option.
"I do find it ironic that the same song ('We're Not Gonna Take It') that was under fire from conservative watchdog groups in the '80s is now the go-to song for those same types of groups."
Back in 2003, Snider sided with then-GOP candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger during the actor's successful recall campaign against Democratic incumbent Governor Gray Davis. Snider sang "We're Not Gonna Take It" at a Schwarzenegger rally and allowed him use of the song.
"We're Not Gonna Take It" and "Stay Hungry" were the biggest hit single and album, respectively, in TWISTED SISTER's career. Snider said "We're Not Gonna Take It" is now part of America's cultural fabric.
"It's become like a folk song. It's a traditional song now. It has a simple message that's applicable to everything from sports teams to politics. I even once heard about the song being used by people protesting the development of commercial property," he said.
The song's lyrics say in part "Oh you're so condescending/Your gall is never ending/We don't want nothin'/Not a thing from you." 3

IRON MAIDEN Bassist Says Solo Debut Is 'Not The Progressive Rock Album Some Might Be Expecting'IRON MAIDEN founder Steve Harris' debut solo/side project album, "British Lion", will be released in the U.S. on September 25 via Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). Mixed by Kevin Shirley — whose credits include IRON MAIDEN as well as Led ZEPPELIN, JOURNEY and RUSH, among many others — the CD, which features Harris alongside vocalist Richard Taylor, guitarists Graham Leslie and David Hawkins and drummer Simon Dawson, presents a different side of the bassist's musical visions.
Asked where the impetus for "British Lion" came from, Harris told Classic Rock magazine, "How it started was that Graham Leslie came to me with a cassette of songs — which shows how long ago it was! — and I thought they were really good, so I said I'd try to help his band do something. I ended up managing them and producing them and writing with them, although I kept that fact under wraps, to the point where even some people in the band didn't know. Anyway, when that band imploded I thought, 'Well, I've got to do something with this,' because I thought the songs were so strong."
He continued, "Over the years I've kept in touch with Richie and Graham, and then Richie was working with another guitarist called David Hawkins, who's a really talented guy, and so we started writing songs together. So on the album there are six songs written with Richie and David, there's one with just me and Richie, and the others are me, Richie, Graham and a couple of other guys that were around at the time."
"British Lion" comprises ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on between IRON MAIDEN tours and releases and is described by Harris as "'70s-influenced, British-sounding hard rock." "I'd say it's more mainstream rock than metal... and quite commercial… but good commercial," he said. "There's all kinds of stuff going on, with nods to THE WHO and UFO and some classic British rock bands, but it's not the progressive rock album some might be expecting."
On the topic of why this is the right time for a Steve Harris solo album, the IRON MAIDEN bassist told Classic Rock, "Because it's ready, it's finally, finally ready. The guys have been waiting very patiently for years for me, and it's been frustrating at time, but what can I do?! I'm so busy with MAIDEN. People have already said to me, 'Are you going to do this instead of MAIDEN?' and I'm like, 'Of course not!' MAIDEN is always going to be the priority — always has been and always will be — but it's interesting and exciting to try new things."
He added, "On the early [IRON MAIDEN] albums, most of the songs are mine, but as we've gone into different eras with different people writing, there's been more and more collaborations. And I think it's been important for MAIDEN to do that rather than have me dictating everything. But I have bags full of ideas, so many that I couldn't record them all in my lifetime, and I tried out a few different things on this, because I had the time to do experiment."
"British Lion" track listing:
01. This Is My God
02. Lost Worlds
03. Karma Killer
04. Us Against The World
05. The Chosen Ones
06. A World Without Heaven
07. Judas
08. Eyes Of The Young
09. These Are The Hands

THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE: New 'Dead Years' Video Teasers AvailableLancaster, Pennsylvania quintet THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE will release its third album, "Dead Years", in Europe on September 24 via Lifeforce Records. The CD will be made available in North America through eOne Music.
Two separate video teasers for "Dead Years" can be seen below.
According to a press release, "troubled, heavy and emotive songs in between metal and melodic hardcore . . . is exactly what you can expect from 'Dead Years', but this time singer Ricky is truly pissed and you can hear that! [THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE] combines agile catchiness, striking technical ability and a good amount of metalcore ingredients along with dense rock grooves." Produced by Andreas Magnusson (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, HASTE THE DAY), "Dead Years" "consists of ten hymns exploring the fields of metal, hardcore and rock in their own way. The quintet does not think too much. The guys just play what feels right and follow their gut instinct. This is the way THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE succeeds."
THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE's forthcoming CD will be the band's first release since "Haunt What's Left", produced by Josh Wilbur and LAMB OF GOD's own Chris Adler in 2010.
Having originally released its debut record, "Monuments", in 2007 the band has not slowed down since. With a few dozen tours under their belt with bands like WE CAME AS ROMANS, PERIPHERY and BORN OF OSIRIS, the band is hardly new to the hands-on approach. Things like giving lessons while on tour and actively taking a role in their day to day is what sets THIS OR THE APOCALYPSE apart.
