TRIVIUM Performs At South By Southwest Festival; Video Footage Available

Florida metallers TRIVIUM made a couple of appearances in Texas over the last few days, playing an outdoor set at Waterloo Records and a short acoustic indoor set as part of South By Southwest, then performing at the South By So What festival outside Dallas.

Fan-filmed video footage of TRIVIUM's March 15 acoustic performance and the March 14 appearance at Waterloo during the SXSW festival can be seen below.

TRIVIUM's latest album, "In Waves", sold 22,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 13 on The Billboard 200 chart — the highest U.S. chart entry of the band's career. The group's previous CD, "Shogun", opened with just under 24,000 units back in October 2008 to debut at No. 23. The effort followed up "The Crusade", which registered a first-week tally of 31,000 copies in October 2006 to enter the chart at No. 25.

"In Waves" was recorded primarily at Paint It Black Studios in Orlando, Florida (with only the drums having been tracked at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida) with the production/mixing team of Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, SLIPKNOT, FEAR FACTORY) and Martin "Ginge" Ford, along with engineer Carl Bown. A two-disc special edition is also available. It features five bonus tracks, plus a DVD with a 40-minute, behind-the-scenes documentary, as well as an exclusive concert filmed in a warehouse located in Orlando, Florida, which is the band's stomping grounds. This concert features the first performances of tracks from "In Waves", along with TRIVIUM classics.

TOOL Drummer Hoping To Enter Studio In June/July

TOOL Drummer Hoping To Enter Studio In June/July

Vic Firth has uploaded an "Artist Spotlight" video feature on TOOL drummer Danny Carey, featuring interview clips and footage from the band's January 28 concert at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. During the chat, Carey revealed that he was hoping TOOL would enter the studio in June/July to begin recording its new album.

TOOL has reportedly been writing material for its long-awaited new album, which would follow up 2006's "10,000 Days".

Keenan has been touring with PUSCIFER behind its second album, "Conditions Of My Parole", and also did some shows with A PERFECT CIRCLE in the past year.

While he enjoys performing, Keenan told The Pulse Of Radio not long ago that he's not into the travel. "If I could do something that would get the music out there and get the performances out there in a way that didn't require me leaving home, I would for sure do it," he said. "Soon as they invent an affordable holographic projection of touring, I'm all over it (laughs). A simultaneous performance all across the country, one night, but you stay in one spot and it's holographic — I'm in."

Original KITTIE Lineup To Reunite?

Original KITTIE Lineup To Reunite?

The original lineup of the Canadian all-girl metal band KITTIE — Morgan Lander (guitar, vocals), Mercedes Lander (drums), Fallon Bowman (guitar) and Tanya Candler (bass) — is apparently contemplating playing some reunion shows which would feature the group performing its gold-certified 1999 debut album, "Spit", in its entirety.

A new tweet from KITTIE which was posted earlier tonight on the band's official Twitter account reads as follows: "If we did shows with the original lineup (@fallonbowman, @TanyaCandler) and played all of 'Spit' in its entirety, would you come? And where?"

Candler left KITTIE in the winter of 1999 after the release of "Spit" in order to finish high school and was replaced by Talena Atfield.

Bowman exited KITTIE in 2001 and started her own industrial/electronic project, AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT.

Candler is currently playing bass for the London, Ontario, Canada-based "psychedelic/rock/tropical" band ALCOHOLLYS.

In a 2002 interview with Ballbuster Music, Mercedes stated about KITTIE's debut album, "I think 'Spit' is probably the least polished record I've ever heard in my entire life. It was recorded in nine days on Fender Squires. It was a point in our lifetime, and it was like a snapshot of what we were like back in 1999."

She added, "We'd been a band for so long, we played over 200 some odd shows before we got record label interest. We were playing every weekend that we could. Sometimes we were playing during the week. We traveled to Toronto, to Detroit; we played a lot of shows. A lot of bands that play 12 shows before they get signed, they sound like crap on their record; they're experimenting on their recording, and they don't know what they want to do. We were just lucky because we knew what we wanted to do."

KITTIE recently parted ways with bassist Ivy Vujic and was rejoined by Trish Doan. Doan was previously with the band from 2005 to 2007, appearing on the band's 2007 release "Funeral For Yesterday".

KITTIE's new album, "I've Failed You", sold 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 178 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The band's previous CD, "In The Black", opened with around 3,400 units back in 2009 to land at No. 132.

KITTIE's fourth album, "Funeral for Yesterday", registered a first-week tally of 9,000 in February 2007 to enter the chart at No. 101.

"I've Failed You" was released on August 30, 2011 via eOne Music.

SAXON: Heavy Metal Thunder – Live: Eagles Over Wacken

SAXON: Heavy Metal Thunder – Live: Eagles Over Wacken' Video Podcast

"Saxon - Heavy Metal Thunder - Live - Eagles Over Wacken" is the no-fat-no-bullshit-100%-pure CD/DVD featuring DVD highlights from SAXON's Wacken shows in 2004, 2007 and 2009 comprising thirty songs, plus a live CD from Glasgow in 2011. Each set captures the Barnsley-bred British heavy metal legends delivering classic after classic, from "Denim & Leather" to "Metalhead" to "Heavy Metal Thunder" to "Princess Of The Night" to "Crusader" in front of 75,000-pluds loyal, ravenous fans, who have come to expect (and receive) the levels of performance SAXON have been delivering for 32 years.

The first video podcast in which the members of SAXON discuss the upcoming release can be seen below.

"When we first played Wacken, it was a small festival with a small stage in a small field, driven by nothing more than raw enthusiasm, which appealed very much to us," says Biff Byford, SAXON's venerable frontman. "It started as fans putting on a festival for fans, and now it's fair to say that it is to heavy metal what the Donington festival used to be. That was the iconic heavy metal festival of the '80s, and Wacken is the iconic heavy metal festival of now."

Now you can feel that electricity for yourselves thanks to "Saxon - Heavy Metal Thunder - Live - Eagles Over Wacken", the no-fat-no-bullshit-100%-pure CD/DVD featuring DVD highlights from SAXON's Wacken shows in 2004, 2007 and 2009 comprising thirty songs, plus a live CD from Glasgow in 2011.

"And when the eagle comes down at Wacken, when it opens up over the audience, it is always an electric moment for those there," says Biff emphatically of the famous SAXON eagle, a ton or so of steel and lights, rescued from a storage space in the British home counties where it had lain dormant gathering rust. In many ways, the eagle's rebirth and Wacken's ascent are partners on the journey, as it was Wacken's organizers who offered to restore the mighty metal bird so as it could become a live centerpiece of both Wacken and SAXON's history.

And when it comes to heavy metal, SAXON's history is, indeed, rich. Rightly seen as one of the premier vanguards of heavy metal alongside the likes of IRON MAIDEN, SAXON were a major influence behind platinum-coated stars such as METALLICA and MEGADETH. Formed as SON OF A BITCH in 1976 (and becoming SAXON in 1978) they enjoyed tremendous commercial success in the U.K. during the '80s, with 8 U.K. top 40 albums, and have sold over 13 millions albums worldwide, while albums such as "Wheels Of Steel", "Strong Arm Of The Law", "Denim & Leather" and "The Power & The Glory" have become legendary staples of any self-respecting metal fan’s collection.

But it has always arguably been on stage where SAXON have excelled the most. There's no hiding once you hit the boards, and whether playing to 20000 people in Buenos Aires or 2000 people in Bolton, Byford, Carter, Glockler, Quinn and Scarratt source the same high-voltage energy reserves and deliver the same high-octane, blood and sweat-soaked show that makes SAXON a perennial touring favorite.

"We've consistently tried to write, and perform songs which both us and our audience enjoy," says Biff, "and we've worked very hard to maintain that link with our audience, because if you don't have that connection it can be very dangerous. We need them, and we need to be ready to deliver for them at every show, that's the challenge and it's one we gratefully accept and enjoy. If the audience are prepared to get crazy, then it's always going to be a strong show, and Wacken always delivers us a fantastic connection. You cannot fake that electricity, everyone wants that 'charged' atmosphere and it is absolutely priceless..."

"Heavy Metal Thunder - Live - Eagles Over Wacken" is available in a variety of formats, including the Golden Ticket D2C/Direct To Consumer Box.

Strictly limited, this exclusive package contains the "Best Of Wacken" DVD, plus the full and complete SAXON Wacken Open Air performances from 2004/2007/2009 each on a separate DVD, plus a SAXON flag.

The real surprise is that 10 Golden Tickets are randomly included in the box sets, which will allow the lucky winners to visit any SAXON concert in any city around the world (excluding festival appearances).

Silver Tickets giving access to special online content are for the remaining boxes so there are no losers - only winners.

Release dates:

April 23 - U.K.
April 20 - Rest Of Europe
May 22 - North America

ATHEIST Frontman

ATHEIST Frontman's STONES OF MADNESS Releases 'I Need' Single

STONES OF MADNESS, the new band formed by Scott Thompson (DRY KILL LOGIC) and ATHEIST/NEUROTICA frontman Kelly Shaefer, has released "I Need", the new single from their forthcoming debut album. The group is joined on drums on this track by former NEUROTICA skinsman G.J. Gosman in what marks the first recording by Shaefer and Gosman since 2002

"I am really excited about how this has all come to fruition," says Shaefer. "Scott Thompson is a really great guitar player, and we came together by chance, through producer Scott 'Scoob' Bush (ex-THE NIXONS), who was an old friend of mine from the NEUROTICA days, and it has just fallen together since then rather easily, and without the pressures of record companies or managers."

This is a direction shift for Thompson, who spent some years bashing it out on the scene with the New York-based band DRY KILL LOGIC, and is quite a departure from Shaefer's work with ATHEIST.

Kelly describes the material as "big thick guitars, along with some fucking big catchy vocals.... bashers to sing along with, cranked to 11, of course."

STONES OF MADNESS will continue work on its debut album for a yet-to-be-determined label and then head out for some shows.

"Live At Sweden Rock Festival" will be released on the TML label, distributed by UMG in Canada and ADA in the U.S. The set will be released throughout Europe on Frontiers Records.

The band's setlist for the Sweden Rock Festival performance was as follows:

01. When The Lights Go Down
02. Lay It On The Line
03. Allied Forces
04. Never Surrender
05. I Live For The Weekend
06. Blinding Light Show
07. Rocky Mountain Way
08. Magic Power
09. Rock And Roll Machine

Encore:

10. Fight the Good Fight

As one of the godfathers of prog metal and leading lights of arena rock, TRIUMPH formed in 1975, and built a large and loyal fanbase by the late '70s on the strength of their non-stop touring schedule throughout Canada and the USA and the success of their classic albums, "Rock & Roll Machine" and "Just A Game".

But it was in the 1980s when TRIUMPH truly became a force to be reckoned with, as a string of gold/platinum-certified albums ("Progressions of Power", "Allied Forces", "Never Surrender" and "Thunder Seven") and classic hits ("Fight the Good Fight", "Magic Power", "Lay It On The Line") solidified the group as one of rock's top concert attractions.

TRIUMPH pushed the limits of arena rock to the max with is legendary live shows and virtuoso playing. Add to it some of the most recognizable and celebrated radio classics, a vault full of gold and platinum sales awards for their ten studio albums and there you have one of the most successful rock acts of the 1970s/1980s.

JOB FOR A COWBOY: Another New Song Available For Streaming

JOB FOR A COWBOY: Another New Song Available For Streaming

Black Discharge, a brand new song from Arizona death metallers JOB FOR A COWBOY, can be streamed below (courtesy of MetalUnderground.com). The track comes off the band's new studio album, "Demonocracy", which will be released on April 10 via Metal Blade Records. The nine-track CD was produced by Jason Seucof (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL, TRIVIUM) who recorded the band's blistering "Ruination" full-length, at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida, and features another strikingly detailed concept cover by artist Brent Elliott White.

Commented the band in a collective statement: "However ruthless an age may actually have been, its style transmits its music only."

"Demonocracy" track listing:

01. Children of Deceit
02. Nourishment Through Bloodshed
03. Imperium Wolves
04. Tongueless and Bound
05. Black Discharge
06. The Manipulation Stream
07. The Deity Misconception
08. Fearmonger
09. Tarnished Gluttony

With the critical praise and fan adoration bestowed upon 2009's "Ruination", it would have been easy for the band to rest upon their proverbial laurels and serve up "Ruination Part II". But from the moment "Demonocracy" roars to life, it is wholly evident that this is a far more musically accomplished beast that takes their signature sound to the next level. From the abrasive blast of opener "Children Of Deceit" to the disconcerting strains of "The Deity Misconception" or the brooding, heart-wrenching closer "Tarnished Gluttony", this is a record drenched in equal parts misanthropy and naked rage, and from start to finish they suspend the listener by the throat.

A key factor in this progression was the change in the band's ranks, which finds vocalist Jonny Davy, drummer Jon "Charn" Rice, and guitarist Al Glassman joined by guitarist Tony Sannicandro. In addition, CEPHALIC CARNAGE bassist Nick Schendzielos replaces Brent Riggs. Having initially brought Sannicandro and Schendzielos on as touring musicians, the members immediately gelled, and first wrote together on 2011's "Gloom" EP, sealing the deal and securing their places as full-fledged members of the band.

Guitarist Tony Sannicandro believes he made a very natural addition into the band's ranks, and he's proud to bring his intricate style to JOB FOR A COWBOY's instantly recognizable sound. "I think I bring more of an old-school guitar approach to the band," he says. "Obviously, before the band got me, there wasn't a lot of lead work. The new album has a solo on every song. I think I've done the best work of my life on there."

No one can doubt Schendzielos' musical pedigree and formidable skills, and the bassist is looking to really make a mark through his work with the band. "It's really invigorating that the cats in JOB FOR A COWBOY are into my style because there is such a great expanse of uncharted territory for bass in metal," he states. "CEPHALIC is notorious for our chaotic and vigorous live performances alongside an expansive and dilatant range of metal stylings. I'm bringing all that experience with me and combining it with the talents of these splendid men to make my best bass work to date."

ARSIS: Demo Version Of New Song Available For Streaming

ARSIS: Demo Version Of New Song Available For Streaming

Virginia-based melodic tech-death metal masters ARSIS promise to return in late 2012/early 2013 with a new album and lead guitarist/singer James Malone back at the helm. As proof of their commitment, the band has chosen to release another pre-production track, "Choking On Sand". Check it out below.

Malone was forced to sit out ARSIS's "Frets Of Fury" tour with FIREWIND, WHITE WIZARD and NIGHTRAGE "due to professional and personal commitments." Filling in for him during the trek were Mike Parks on vocals and Brandon Ellis on guitar.

"Sometimes life forces us to make changes and mine certainly has," commented Malone. "As a result, I have found myself in a much better place than I have been in years and I am so excited to be working on music again. I can honestly say that I am more inspired than I have been in years."

"I truly feel the new music is some of the best material we have ever written," Malone added. “I know every band always says that when they are working on new music, but I do truly mean it."

Formed in 2000 by Berklee prodigies James Malone and Mike Van Dyne, ARSIS has grown a strong and steady following for their unique intellectual brand of melodic death metal through various lineup changes. Most recently, ARSIS guitarist Nick Cordle was tapped to replace Christopher Amott in the Swedish/German extreme metal band ARCH ENEMY.

"I could not be happier that Nick landed the gig with ARCH ENEMY. He is by far the best musician I have ever collaborated with," James said.

ARSIS' latest album, "Starve For The Devil", sold 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at No. 13 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Starve For The Devil" was released in North America on February 9, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records. The album was recorded at Planet Z Studios in Hadley, Massachusetts with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris, who has previously worked with MUNICIPAL WASTE, AGNOSTIC FRONT and HATEBREED, among others.

ADRENALINE MOB Live In New York City: Interview, Performance Footage Available

ADRENALINE MOB Live In New York City: Interview, Performance Footage Available

The new lineup of ADRENALINE MOB — the band featuring featuring drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD), SYMPHONY X frontman Russell Allen, guitar virtuoso Mike Orlando (SONIC STOMP) and DISTURBED bassist John Moyer — made its live debut on March 12 at The Hiro Ballroom in New York City.

A five-and-a-half-minute video clip containing footage of the Hiro performance as well as a pre-show interview with Portnoy and Moyer can be seen below (courtesy of LocalBozo.com).

ADRENALINE MOB travelled to Los Angeles last week to film a video for the song "Indifferent". In addition, the group taped an appearance on an episode of VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show".

ADRENALINE MOB's debut album, "Omertá" was released in Europe on March 19 in Europe via Century Media Records. The CD was made available in the U.S. on March 13 through the newly formed Elm City Music in conjunction with EMI Label Services.

The 11-song effort — which was produced by ADRENALINE MOB and mixed by Jay Ruston, who has previously worked on ANTHRAX's "Worship Music" and STEEL PANTHER's "Balls Out" — includes a blistering reinterpretation of DURAN DURAN's classic "Come Undone" featuring guest vocals by Lzzy Hale of HALESTORM.

"Omertá" track listing:

01. Undaunted
02. Psychosane
03. Indifferent
04. All On The Line
05. Hit The Wall
06. Feelin' Me
07. Come Undone (feat. Lzzy Hale)
08. Believe Me
09. Down To The Floor
10. Angel Sky
11. Freight Train

ADRENALINE MOB will perform at several European festivals this summer, including Graspop Metal Meeting (June 22-24 in Dessel, Belgium) and Gods Of Metal (June 21-24 in Milan, Italy).

ADRENALINE MOB's first-ever headline tour made stops in various markets, including Chicago, Denver and San Francisco. ADRENALINE MOB also opened for GODSMACK on select dates of the Massachusetts act's headlining tour.

ADRENALINE MOB formed in early 2011 when Mike Orlando approached Allen with some material the guitarist had written. Allen and Orlando refined those ideas, at which time Allen reached out to longtime friend Portnoy to see if he had any interest in playing with them. Portnoy jumped on board and the beast that is known as ADRENALINE MOB was born.

PORTNOY: If AVENGED SEVENFOLD Ever Needed My Help Or Service, I'd Be Glad To Help Them Again

Zoiks! Online recently conducted an interview with drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Zoiks! Online: What's the experience like coming from the bigger theaters and arenas with DREAM THEATER to starting over at the club level [with ADRENALINE MOB]? Is it a refreshing feeling or is it more frustrating?

Portnoy: It is fun again; there's a certain charm to it. On the other hand, it was very nice being comfortable and cushy with all those years in DREAM THEATER. What I left with DREAM THEATER was 25 years of hard hard work. You don't get to play big arenas and theaters over night, at least I never did… I had to really work for it. There's definitely a little frustration with having to start over, but that was inevitable, I knew that was going to be the case when I left DREAM THEATER. I could have just sailed away into the sunset and been secure forever, but for me, I wanted something more, I needed something more. I wanted to work with people and music that was fresh and inspiring to me. With that comes the rebuilding process, and I understand that, and accept that, and we're all willing to do it. We love this band and this album and this music, and if we have to get back into the clubs and win people over one by one, then we're up for the job.

Zoiks! Online: Would you ever collaborate with AVENGED SEVENFOLD again if they asked?

Portnoy: Sure, if they asked. I had a great experience with them. I loved their fans, they were always so great and open and welcoming to me. Yeah, I look back with fond memories of the experience and if they ever needed my help or service, I'd be glad to help them again.

Zoiks! Online: What is the most difficult drum pattern or part that you've come up with that still gives you troubles today?

Portnoy: I would say some of the stuff I did on the "Dance Of Eternity" (DREAM THEATER) track were some of more complex patterns I have ever come up with. It took awhile to execute them and learn them and create them. However I just recorded something two nights ago, I'm currently in the studio with Neal Morse doing his next solo album, and there was a pattern in one of these songs I recorded a couple of days ago that was tremendously difficult, it was very very challenging for me, so I still find those moments that give me a true challenge now and then.

GOD SEED Recording Debut Album

GOD SEED Recording Debut Album

GOD SEED, the Norwegian band featuring former GORGOROTH members King (bass; real name: Tom Cato Visnes) and Gaahl (vocals; real name: Kristian Espedal), has spent the past several months working on the material for its debut album at various locations in Norway. GOD SEED is laying down ten new songs which "will show the band from a different side but well-rooted in what Gaahl and King are known for in the past," according to a press release.

Said King: "We are in the middle of recording of the first GOD SEED album. It will contain music we have worked on for the last couple of years. This release will mark a new beginning for the band. We have handpicked new members who have done a superb job on the record. We are still in the process of recording, but will shortly come back with more info."

GOD SEED's "Live At Wacken" DVD and CD was released on January 27 in Europe and January 31 in North America via Indie Recordings.

"Live At Wacken" includes footage of the group's infamous live show from the 2008 edition of the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany where they performed on the main stage in front of 75,000 screaming fans.

The Wacken performance was a reconstruction of GORGOROTH's controversial "Black Mass" show from Krakow in 2004 filmed in a TV studio in Kraków, Poland. The concert featured sheep heads on stakes, "crucified" nude models, satanic symbols, and eighty liters of sheep's blood. The band came under fire for violating Polish anti-blasphemy laws as well as Polish animal-rights laws, resulting in a police investigation with allegations of religious offence and cruelty to animals. The band went free of all charges and at Wacken 2008 they recreated this now-legendary show in all its glory.

This spectacular show is made available as a live CD, including the film of the entire show on DVD. The album is only available in a deluxe digipack edition and holds liner notes from the band about the process of recreating this special show.

"Live At Wacken" features session players Nick Barker (drums) and Ice Dale (guitar) alongside King and Gaahl.

GOD SEED came to life after Gaahl and King lost a court battle in early 2009 against guitarist Infernus (real name: Roger Tiegs) over the rights to the GORGOROTH band name.

Commented King: "GOD SEED represents a more spiritual side to us than what GORGOROTH did. GOD SEED represents the will to grow; the will to be the super man, so to speak. I think it's a suitable name for what we will represent in the future. I am also aware of the fact that we use the word 'God' in the name. It will challenge the weak minded in the respect that we in the past used the word Satan a lot, but it's all about the same thing. The God within man, and the God within nature. I never believed in a Christian force named Satan. I believe in the God within man."

Gaahl left GOD SEED in 2009 because he chose to retire from metal music.
