Former RAMONES bassist C.J Ramone says that he was invited to audition for METALLICA on two separate occasions but turned down the opportunity to join the San Francisco Bay Area-based metal giants.

The bassist, whose real name is Christopher Ward, said he was "honored" to be asked to try out for METALLICA but he could not join as his son had just been diagnosed with autism. He told The Great Southern Brainfart, "I was approached about joining METALLICA not once but twice. When Jason [Newsted] first left the band [in 2001] they approached me. A while had gone by and they were having a hard time finding someone, so they approached me again. At the time my son had been diagnosed with autism and there was just no way I could leave him."

He continued, "Johnny [Ramone] was actually the one who hooked me up with the audition because he was friends with [METALLICA guitarist] Kirk Hammett. I talked to my son's doctor and explained the opportunity and that I could bring my family out on the road and even hire a nurse. The doctor just told me that my son needed to wake up in the same place every day, he needs to have meals at the same time every day and he needs to go to school everyday and be around other kids. He said that anything other than that could be a detriment."

He added, "I was honored that they asked me but there was just no way I could do it. The beautiful part about it all is that now my son is in regular classes at school. He's on the high honor roll and he's even starting his own band now with a couple of friends of his. The change in him from when he was a kid is amazing. I'm not taking credit for it all. There were a lot of people who helped him along the way. If I had not been here, I don't know that the outcome would have been as good and that totally justifies my decision.

"I have no regrets.

"It would've been great to play with METALLICA after being in the RAMONES. Jesus, that would be just like a too-perfect life [laughs]."

C.J Ramone joined the seminal punk band RAMONES in 1989 to replace longtime player Dee Dee Ramone before leaving again in 1996.

Vocalist Oliver "Oli" Sykes of the British metalcore act BRING ME THE HORIZON was reportedly assaulted on stage during the band's headlining performance last night (Monday, October 3) at In The Venue in Salt Lake City, Utah. The altercation apparantly took place after several concert-goers threw water bottles at Sykes, prompting him to call out the culprits and send the projectiles right back. Several rowdy audience members then rushed the stage in attempt to attack the singer, with a few others starting fights in the crowd. Sykes was apparently unharmed during the incident, with the band returning to the stage a half hour later to finish its set.

"KUR-NU-GI-A", the first proper demo by the legendary Swedish death metal band EDGE OF SANITY fronted by Dan Swanö (also of NIGHTINGALE, BLOODBATH, ODYSSEY, PAN-THY-MONIUM) has been made available as a 12-inch picture-disc vinyl via Black Mark. The recording, which was originally released in 1990, was remixed by Dan.

The complete discography from the melodic Swedish death metal act A CANOROUS QUINTET will be released for the time time on vinyl via The Crypt.

Although not as well known and some of the other bands in the Swedish death metal scene, A CANOROUS QUINTET features members from such prominent acts as AMON AMARTH, NIDEN DIV. 187, OCTOBER TIDE and GUIDANCE OF SIN.

Formed in 1991, A CANOROUS QUINTET released the "The Time Of Autumn" demo followed by a mini-CD, "As Tears", and two full-length albums, "Silence Of The World Beyond" and "The Only Pure Hate". The band split up in 1999 before reforming in 2005 under the name THE PLAGUE and later changing its name to THIS ENDING.

Strictly limited to a one-time-only pressing of 500 hand-numbered copies, these amazing slabs of wax come housed in a 350-gram, semi-gloss printed, gatefold jacket featuring the original "As Tears" cover artwork, lyrics, new extensive liner notes by Linus Nirbrant and Mårten Hansen, and exclusive band photos. NIGHTRAGE guitarist Olof Mörck will be forced to sit out the band's "Frets Of Fury" tour with FIREWIND, WHITE WIZZARD and ARSIS throughout the U.S. and Canada in October. Filling in for him during the trek will be former CELLADOR/CIRCLE II CIRCLE guitarist Bill Hudson.

Guitarist Jeff Waters of Canadian thrash metal veterans ANNIHILATOR makes a guest appearance on the song "Hide Your Self" by the up-and-coming Finnish metal act FREEDOMINATION. The track is featured on FREEDOMINATION's new promotional release, "Power Of Nightmares", and will also appear on the group's upcoming full-length album.

Former METAL CHURCH singer Ronny Munroe will release his new solo album, "Lords Of The Edge", on October 18 via Rat Pak Records. The CD features the guitar mastery of Stu Marshall (EMPIRES OF EDEN), Chris Caffery (TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, SAVATAGE), and Michael Wilton (QUEENSRŸCHE) and is described in a press release as "a true metal offering that delivers an onslaught of fist-pumping, guitar-driven heavy metal."

Niklas Kvarforth, founder and frontman of Swedish extreme metallers SHINING, has announced details of the upcoming release of a solo project that will chart fifteen years of his often controversial musical career. "Fifteen Years Of Absolute Darkness", scheduled for release via Spinefarm Records on December 7, will feature 15 tracks from various bands on which Kvarforth has guested on vocals. Included are tracks from bands such as GRAVDAL, BETHLEHEM, THE VISION BLEAK, DEN SAAKALDTE, as well as a previously unreleased alternative version of SHINING's "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel". The critically acclaimed album "Demonoir" by 1349 will be reissued as a limited box set as part of the Indie Recordings Norwegian Collector's Edition Series. It contains seven bonus tracks, including an unreleased track that did not appear on the expanded edition or the limited edition, 12-page booklet, poster, guitar pick, a patch and autographed photo card. The box is handnumbered and limited to 1000 copies worldwide.

For U.S. fans, the box set will be available only on FYE on November 25.

"Demonoir", the fifth full-length album from 1349, was recorded at Studio Nyhagen, deep in the woods in Norway with Tom G. Mikko Laine, the 30-year-old guitarist of the Finnish metal band SOLE REMEDY, was killed in a traffic accident last night (October 2) in the Dutch municipality of Baarlo — just hours after the band's performance at the ProgPower Europe festival. According to a spokesperson for the Sjiwa youth center (where the concert took place), the accident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when Laine, who was sleeping next to a fence, was run over by a truck, which was loaded with the backline, instruments and other equipment, as the driver drove backwards and turned onto the road. The 50-year-old driver, a local man, didn't see the Finn, who died at the site.

Note: The Dutch media erroneously reported that it was the band's drummer, Henry Silmonen, who was killed in the accident.

Formed in 1998, SOLE REMEDY's sophomore album, "Apoptosis", was released in September 2010 via Aftermath Music.
