Drummer Varyen Chylinski (AGAINST THE PLAGUES, FOREST OF IMPALED, DAMNATION) has joined ROAD'S END, the band led by bassist Marcin "Novy" Nowak (BEHEMOTH, VADER). This is the first project that Novy has assembled himself and he's looking forward to having Varyen assist him during live performances.

Chylinski and Nowak have known each other for a long time, having both grown up in the Polish heavy metal scene.

Novy previously described ROAD'S END's musical direction as "American-style heavy metal with a European soul."

ROAD'S END last week began the audition process for a permanent lead singer and lead guitarist. Individuals interesting in auditioning should already have touring experience, their own equipment and ideally be in the Chicago, Illinois area or at least be willing to relocate. For the lead singer, gender is not important, but the ability to sound like the singer on the streaming audio tracks is critical.

Novy has recorded 17 full-length CDs and taped five official DVDs, all with worldwide distribution. He was also named one of the best bass players in all of the industry-related magazines.

Novy is an extremely versatile musician who is inspired not only by heavy metal, but also jazz, classical and other "good" music.

Chicago's KOMMANDANT has inked a deal with the Italian record label Aeternus Tenebrarum Music Foundation. The band's new full-length album, "The Draconian Archetype", is being recorded and engineered by Chris Djuricic at Belle City Sound in Racine, Wisconsin for an early 2012 release.

Commented the band in a statement: "KOMMANDANT has grown tremendously as a band over the last year and has really come into its own. We view Aeternus Tenebrarum Music Foundation as important allies and look forward to flying under their banner."

KOMMANDANT guitarist James Bresnahan previously said about the band's new album, "We have been constantly pushing the KOMMANDANT sound into new extremes. 'The Draconian Archetype' is the best representation yet of who we are and what we stand for. ['Draconian archetype'] is the idea of applying an older or more traditional set of values or rules to modern situations. [The] songs explore the concept of promoting strength, decisiveness and traditional virtues instead of coddling weakness and obfuscation. Obviously metal in general promotes stripped-down hyper-masculine concepts like war, and in that respect we are similar, but that's where the similarity generally ends. I think it would be rather short-sighted to classify us as simply a 'war metal' band, since our songs range quite a bit beyond conflict in their subject matter."

According to Musical Instrument Professional, Premier has introduced the "Spirit Of Maiden" drumset, a new kit designed in collaboration with IRON MAIDEN's Nicko McBrain.

Since 1993, the relationship between McBrain and Premier has resulted in a series of drumsets created to support IRON MAIDEN's world tours. This new kit is the first product from Premier that offers fans an affordable drumset officially licensed by IRON MAIDEN.

The artwork depicts the band's mascot Eddie from the "Piece Of Mind" album — the first MAIDEN record to feature McBrain on drums. Finished in two-tone metallic grey and silver, the covering is produced in the U.K. at the same facility used for the drummer's personal tour kits. Each drum includes a silver embossed IRON MAIDEN badge, while the bass drum head includes the Premier logo in MAIDEN's signature font.

Hard rock fans who love wine, but hate the image can now pick up a bottle of ruby that's been approved by the crown prince of rock and metal himself, Lemmy Kilmister — Motörhead Shiraz.

The Australian Shiraz, which is available in the U.K. from Great Wine Online, has been carefully selected by the hard rock legends and has been described as a wine with a fruity aroma, flavors of vanilla, blackberries, plums, eucalyptus and liquorice, but with soft rounded tannins. Or, as Lemmy Kilmister, lead singer, bass player and founder of the band, puts it: "My advice is — approach it with caution. I mean, wine is deceptive, anything can happen."

"No Halos", the new video from BLACK WATER RISING — the New York-based band featuring former members of BOILER ROOM and DUST TO DUST — can be seen below. The clip, which features Jose Hernandez Jr. (HBO's "Oz") in the starring role, was helmed by acclaimed director Noah Shulman (SOIL, HELLYEAH) and depicts religion as cult and uses media as a brainwashing tool. Polish avantgarde metallers STROMMOUSSHELD have just finished the pre-production process for their long-awaited second full-length album, entitled "No Direction Home".

Commented the group: "We confirm the rumours about coming back to life as a real band. We ended up putting together all the riffs and soundscapes we managed to gather during all those fuckin' years. Now, when we have the vision of this yet unborn bastard we may say the new album is going to be something you would never expect from us!"

STROMMOUSSHELD is preparing to enter the studio to begin recording the new CD. The drum tracks will be laid down at the Huge Studio while the rest of the instruments and vocals will be tracked at SH Studio. The production will be handled by Maels Strommo, band's vocalist and guitarist.

STROMMOUSSHELD's full-length debut was released in 2003 by Avantgarde Music.

dary British power metal mercenaries TANK — featuring Mick Tucker and Cliff Evans on guitar alongside ex-RAINBOW/YNGWIE MALMSTEEN frontman Doogie White and ex-BRUCE DICKINSON bassist Chris Dale and drummer Dave "Grav" Cavill (ZODIAC MINDWARP) — have commenced work on the follow-up to last year's "War Machine" album for a spring 2012 release via Metal Mind Productions. According to a press release, the new material is "in a similar vein to 'War Machine', but with a heavier angle." Working songtitles so far include "One Thousand Deaths", "War Without End" and "Heavier Than Thou".

"War Machine" was released on October 25, 2010 in Europe via Metal Mind Productions (December 7, 2010 in the U.S. through MVD). The production was handled by Pedro Ferreira (THE DARKNESS, THERAPY?, MEAT LOAF) and the bulk of the recording was done at Pedrock Studios in London. Drums were laid down by Tony Newton at Steve Harris' (IRON MAIDEN) Barnyard Studios.

"War Machine" was made available in four different versions: as a jewel case CD, a limited-edition digipak CD including two bonus tracks and LP with one bonus track. The Japanese edition of the album includes two exclusive bonus tracks which aren't available elsewhere.

Audio samples from "A Decade Of Dusk", the forthcoming debut album from LUX INCERTA — the French gothic doom metal band featuring members of PENUMBRA and THE OLD DEAD TREE — are available for streaming on the group's official web site. Brazilian heavy metal singer Eduardo "Edu" Falaschi (ANGRA, ALMAH, SYMBOLS) has released the following statement:

"At last I would like to clarify some facts about my voice with all the sincerity, humility and integrity that I may have.

"For over 20 years I have worked without a day off in the heavy metal style, and we all know how difficult and technically demanding it is. Joining ANGRA, I had to fit a particularly high way of singing, which was totally out of my range, and of the vast majority of the singers! At the time I took the responsibility and faced all the pressure. But 10 years ago it was much easier due to the physical factor, excitement and age. I started to feel, year after year, gradually, the difficulties of singing something so high and out of my natural trait. I fought to the end! I did everything possible to continue to sing the songs, particularly the old ones, always in high pitches, because the melodic metal audience has ever 'demanded' this of us singers. But unfortunately, today, older and more experienced, I assume that I am no longer able to sing so high. I'm a baritone singer who dominates the mediums and lows, with drive, singing with a more aggressive chest voice, as I did in SYMBOLS and do in ALMAH. I have conquered many things and built much of my story with my own style.

"Therefore, I made a decision, thinking only and exclusively about the health of my voice and integrity of my career, which I have built with so much struggle and dedication.

"After fulfilling all the promotional activities of [the new ALMAH album] 'Motion', scheduled until the end of the year, I will stop indefinitely to finally rest and be able to deal properly with my health. But I have to point out that from today on I'll just sing whatever is in my natural range, be it in ANGRA or any other band, for my own good! I want to be who I really am, instead of being what people want me to be! In the meantime, I'll continue with my activities as a producer and composer, which are things I love doing, and will not harm at all the progress of my recovery.

German melodic metallers EDGUY have been forced to postpone three concerts in their home country this weekend (Essen, Fulda and Bamberg) after the band's lead singer, Tobias Sammet, was diagnosed with a virus infection and an accute laryngitis. The group is working on rescheduling the concerts in late October. Tickets for all three shows will be honored on the new dates.

Commented Sammet: "I am really sorry; it is the second consecutive tour this shit happens to me! I have just returned from the phoniatrics unit of the university hospital Essen, because I so desperately wanted to play those shows this coming weekend, but my throat just says 'no.' It doesn't work. I sincerely apologize to all of you who might be disappointed, be sure I must be the most disappointed one myself. British clothing brand Ed Stone and Dutch technical metal band TEXTURES have announced the launch of an exclusive TEXTURES x Ed Stone T-shirt line. The line of T-shirts will be based around the band's new album, "Dualism", which was recently released through Nuclear Blast Records. The T-shirts will be limited to a 100 pieces per design once they have sold out the next design in the series will be revealed. The first design was created by Jeremy Packer at ZombieYeti Studios and is based on the TEXTURES song "Arms Of The Sea".

Roadrunner Records has announced the signing of Southern California's AT THE SKYLINES. With a new home at Roadrunner, the six-piece, which features a potent dual guitar and dual vocal attack, has settled into the process of writing its debut album. The band is recording in Sweden with Fredrik Nordström, whose resume is filled with names like AT THE GATES, BRING ME THE HORIZON, IN FLAMES and DIMMU BORGIR. The band will also spend November on tour as part of the "To Write Love On Her Arms Presents: The Children Of Fire Tour" featuring OH, SLEEPER, GREELEY ESTATES, TEN AFTER TWO and SECRETS.

AT THE SKYLINES, featuring vocalists Chris Shelley and Mark Barela, guitarists Shawn Yates and Billy Barber, bassist Tim Trad and drummer David Angle, formed in 2009, quickly establishing a clear sound and vision. The individual members had been honing their skills for years, as some began playing in their early teens and have ventured into playing many diverse styles over the years. Yates, who serves as the primary writer of music in the band, comes from a background in classical music and jazz. His diverse history informs not only the music he writes for AT THE SKYLINES, but also the programming elements that he brings to each song. Additionally, the band boasts not one, but two frontmen in the form of Shelley and Barela. Their vocal styles blend effortlessly, allowing AT THE SKYLINES to throw an even bigger sonic punch with their songs.

Canadian metal innovators VOIVOD are continuing to write and demo new material for their upcoming album, tentatively due in early 2012. The follow-up to 2009's "Infini" will contain the band's first music to be written with new guitarist Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain (MARTYR) following the passing of original axeman Denis "Piggy" D'Amour in 2005.

According to a posting on the VOIVOD Facebook page, "the guys are recording a couple of news songs at their rehearsal spot. Expect something in the vein of 'Nothingface' with some elements from the other albums. It will be a classic VOIVOD album."

Regarding what the new VOIVOD songs sound like, Mongrain said in a recent interview, "As a VOIVOD fan since I am 12 years old and early rise of VOIVOD in late '80s and everything, I think… I'm in conflict of interest right now. [Laughs] I like the old stuff as much as the new stuff, so I think it's a blend of everything. It's really a team work and Blacky [Jean-Yves Thériault] is back on the 'blower bass' — he's got the original sound — and we're having a blast jamming, improvising and writing. I think it's working pretty good."

On the topic of the lyrical themes covered in the new VOIVOD tracks, singer Denis "Snake" Bélanger said, "The song we played [on the recent European tour] ['Kaleidos'; see video below] is about conspiracy involving drugs and the FBI… [Laughs] It's hard to describe because we're kind of early in the process. There's another song called 'Target Earth', which is more like a spacy, conspiracy, controlling the information around the world. The main thing is the 'war' of information. You know, somebody Osama Bin Laden is dead, someone [else] says he's not… It gets to a point where everybody has his own story and nobody is sure what the truth is. There's people above everything controlling the information."

In a recent interview with Exclaim.ca, Away stated about VOIVOD's forthcoming studio album, "We have four songs completed and about five other ones in progress and it's more in the progressive metal vein, so it's reminiscent of the 'Dimension Hatross' era. We hope to record in the fall and have a new album out in the spring of 2012, so before the end of the world."

On the topic of the new VOIVOD live album, "Warriors Of Ice", featuring three-fourths of the band's classic lineup — Langevin, bassist Jean-Yves "Blacky" Thériault and vocalist Denis "Snake" Bélanger — along with Mongrain, Away said, "I feel like it's an achievement because there was a point where we weren't sure if there was going to be a new VOIVOD album. It's not a studio album but still something we're very proud of. It's good vintage VOIVOD. . . There was never really a live album with Snake and Blacky since the one before was us as a trio with [ex-bassist/vocalist] Eric Forrest. So, yeah, it's refreshing to have an album with almost the original lineup involved."

Regarding upcoming VOIVOD releases, Away stated, "There are no professional [unreleased] recordings in the vaults [with late VOIVOD guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour], but we are re-releasing a few albums in the upcoming months with bonus live material from the '80s."
