WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM Working On New Album Black metal cultivators WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM are currently fully immersed in the process of harvesting their next full-length album. The we-yet-untitled CD will be the third WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM full-length for Southern Lord Recordings. Aaron and Nathan Weaver, the founding and only full-time members of the band, will collaborate once again with producer/mystic Randall Dunn (EARTH, SUNN O))), BORIS) who produced WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM's mammoth "Two Hunters" and "Black Cascade" albums.
Commented Aaron Weaver: "I got into a daily rhythm of greeting the weak winter sun in the morning, working outside in the rain until midday, then retiring to our studio to work on the music late into the night. I did this nearly every day for two months. Quite a monastic lifestyle, actually. I didn't see many people. We were totally lost inside the record. Once the record was conceived from beginning to end, we met with Randall and started to slowly build the tracks at his studio in Seattle.
"I think that this album will be the best thing that WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM has created. We've never been able to devote this much time to writing and recording. It feels like this will be the culmination of everything we've done up to this point."
In addition to the Weaver brothers, the album will also feature a vocal appearance by Jessika Kenny, who contributed so much to the transcendent tone of the band's massive "Two Hunters" album. 4

IN FLAMES Guitarist Says Band Decided To \'Give Vocals A Little Bit More Space\' On New AlbumA brand new song from Swedish metallers IN FLAMES was premiered during this past weekend's (May 6-8) edition of Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show. The band's guitarist, Björn Gelotte, was also interviewed on the program. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.
When asked whether the departure of founding guitarist Jesper Strömblad (who quit the band in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction) affected the direction of IN FLAMES' new material, Gelotte replied, "I wouldn't say that [it changed] the direction at all, actually. We sort of formed and shaped and pulled this band into what it is right now and we're still pulling in the same direction. But it did a lot with the chemistry within the band and also a little bit about how we approached the writing of [the new IN FLAMES] album ['Sounds Of A Playground Fading']. I did all the music, but I had a lot of help from my friends; it was more of a collaboration with the other guys, especially when it comes to arrangements. But also, really early, we decided to give vocals a little bit more space [this time around], because that's something that we always [waited until] the last week of the recording as well — now we've got a week to do the vocals — and that's not really fair. That was an interesting new way of writing the music, keeping vocals in the focus than we had in the past. The dynamics right now are slightly different. I had Jesper with me all the time, or Jesper had me with him all the time, so it was really easy to finish songs really quickly, and this time I had to work a little bit harder for it, but it feels really good having done it."
Regarding IN FLAMES' new single, "Deliver Us", Gelotte said, "It's not a very fast song, but it's very melodic and it's got a really powerful chorus. And as a guitar player, I am kind of proud to say I love the solo on this one. It was not very hard [to play], but it's a nice thing. It's a… I don't know what you would call it… icing on the cake." 19

AVENGED SEVENFOLD: \'So Far\' Away Video ReleasedAVENGED SEVENFOLD's music video for its latest single, "So Far Away", can be viewed below. (Note: Video stream may not be available to some non-U.S. residents.) The clip is described as a "raw and emotional" tribute to late AVENGED drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, who died in December 2009 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. The track itself, which appears on the band's current "Nightmare" album, is said in a press statement to be a "very personal goodbye" to Sullivan.
The "So Far Away" video was directed by Wayne Isham, who has previously helmed videos for such established artists as METALLICA, MÖTLEY CRÜE, SIMPLE PLAN, PANTERA, 'N SYNC, SHANIA TWAIN, GODSMACK, BRITNEY SPEARS, LEONA LEWIS, PINK FLOYD, SHERYL CROW, JOSS STONE, MADONNA, AVRIL LAVIGNE, DEF LEPPARD and BON JOVI.
Following Sullivan's death, the band recruited his favorite drummer, ex-DREAM THEATER member Mike Portnoy, to record the drum tracks for "Nightmare" and tour with the band through 2010. The group then found a new touring drummer in 2011 named Arin Ilejay. Guitarist Synyster Gates talked about the newest member of AVENGED. "We always kind of thought it would be cool, you know, with Jimmy's death if it could breathe new life and a new career for somebody young, which is the case," he told The Pulse Of Radio. "We have a new drummer, his name's Arin Ilejay, and he's unbelievable. He's 22 years old, and he's just a sweet, young, awesome kid. He shreds, he's amazing, and it's really made us feel certainly very excited to give him this opportunity." 18

EVILE: New Album To Feature Song For Late BassistBritish thrashers EVILE will release their third album, "Five Serpents' Teeth", on August 29 via Earache Records. The CD was recorded at Parlour Studios in Kettering, U.K., with producer Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, DIMMU BORGIR), who also worked on the band's previous CD, 2009's "Infected Nations".
Speaking exclusively to NME.com, EVILE guitarist Ol Drake revealed that the band's new effort will feature a song inspired by the group's late bassist Mike Alexander, who died in 2009 following a blot clot on his lungs.
"It goes without saying that there would be some element of the new album which was for Mike alone," Drake said.
"We had a few ideas floating around which were out of the ordinary for EVILE, and when Mike passed away, those ideas just started to make more and more sense."
He added: "''In Memoriam''s initial intention was for Mike and Mike alone.
"All of us in the band have different views and thoughts on what the song means and who it is for, but it was born out of a want to include something special for Mike, his family and ourselves.
"As the song grew, it started to take on a life of its own, so to speak.
"It is for anyone who's lost anyone close to them. There is a lot of meaning behind this song, and I expect a few people will question EVILE doing such a song, but if the sentiment isn't understood, I couldn't care less.
"As our producer, Russ Russell, said: 'It's a brilliant song for a brilliant guy.'" 3

The unique digipack features a pop-out "thumbs up," which you can see front man Vincent Bennett demonstrating and discussing below.

THE ACACIA STRAIN's previous CD, "Continent", opened with 5,600 units to land at No. 107.
"Wormwood" was recorded at Planet Z Studios in Hadley, Massachusetts with Chris "Zeuss" Harris (HATEBREED, CHIMAIRA, SHADOWS FALL) handling producing, mixing and mastering. The CD features three guest vocalists — HATEBREED's Jamey Jasta, 100 DEMONS' Bruce LePage and Kyle Chard of BORN LOW. 1

YES Guitarist TREVOR RABIN Working On First Solo Album In 22 Yearsillboard.com has issued the following report from Phil Gallo:
Film composer and former YES guitarist TREVOR RABIN is mixing his first solo album since 1989, a collection of instrumentals that Voiceprint Records will release in September.
Rabin, whose credits include Race to Witch Mountain, Armageddon and the NCAA basketball tournament theme, recorded all the instruments himself except for the drums. For percussion he brought in Vinnie Colaiuta, Louis Molino and his son Ryan Rabin of the band GROUPLOVE.
"It's time to let this baby go," he says. "In every project I have done, there has been (a deadline and a goal). With (my first band) RABBIT, it was a single and then albums; with Yes you had to make a strong, viable album, and with film you've got a schedule to keep. Here, I was able to do what I wanted. It's not necessarily easy on the ears."
