DROWNING POOL: Listening To Our Music Does Not Make You A Bad PersonTexas heavy rockers DROWNING POOL have released a follow-up statement in response to news reports that the 22-year-old man under arrest in Saturday's massacre in Arizona had listed as a "favorite" on his YouTube channel a video featuring the band's song "Bodies" as its relentless soundtrack.
The alleged gunman, Jared Lee Loughner, fatally shot six people and injured 14 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., who was holding a public event in Tucson for constituents.
Loughner had an unofficial video featuring "Bodies" playing in the background while a masked man burns the American flag listed as a favorite on his YouTube channel, leading some media commentators to speculate that the killer was influenced by the song.
In a new statement released online earlier today (Tuesday, January 10), DROWNING POOL said: "We'd like to thank our fans for all of their support yesterday, and once again offer our thoughts to the victims and their families.
"Jared Lee Loughner is clearly a very disturbed individual.
"The Washington Post ran an article on 'Bodies' and the Tucson shootings today. But instead of telling the whole story, the writer decided to edit what we had to say in order to make it seem like we were somehow responsible for what happened last weekend. He left out some really important facts.
"Where did the part about us performing for the troops go? Where was the mention of us helping to pass a bill in support of our soldiers?
"If you want to let readers form their own opinions of who we are and what we support, include all of the info!
"We find it inappropriate to imply that our song or rock music in general is to blame for this tragic event. It is premature to make this assumption without having all the facts in the case. It is just as likely that this horrible act was caused by the irresponsible and violent rhetoric used by mainstream media outlets such as the Washington Post.
"Listening to DROWNING POOL music does not make you a bad person. Misleading people does." 17

BLOTTED SCIENCE To Record New EPInstrumental extreme metal triumvirate BLOTTED SCIENCE, featuring guitarist Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, SPASTIC INK, MARTY FRIEDMAN), bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL) and drummer Hannes Grossmann (NECROPHAGIST, OBSCURA), is preparing to enter the studio to begin recording a new EP, "The Animation Of Entomology", for a tentative late 2011 release.
Commented Jarzombek: "This concept started to take shape in June of '08 when BLOTTED SCIENCE got together for the first time to rehearse and threw ideas around for a second CD. We wanted to score some kind of creepy horror film, and so something was definitely abuzz…
"The idea of writing music that syncs up perfectly with clips of disgusting insects and other creepy creatures was set in motion.
"After working with close to a dozen movie clips, it became apparent that to do a full-length CD, it would take far too long to complete. You need to take in the fact that we are writing exclusively with a 12-tone system 100% of the time, so things get very detailed, nitpicky and restricted. On the timing side of things... counts, measures, time signatures and note subdivisions also now have to conform to frames per second and more importantly match and coincide with what is onscreen. Throw out any semblance of verses and choruses too while you're at it. Rather than have musical sections last a series of measures, some full sections now last just a few counts.
"I've scored music to film before with SPASTIC INK's 'A Wild Hare' and 'The Cereal Mouse', and Alex and I have written with a specific 12-tone system on the first BLOTTED SCIENCE CD, 'The Machinations Of Dementia', but putting these two together has been brutally intense.
"Will all of this be too much for fans to take in? We shall see… literally…
"The EP entitled 'The Animation Of Entomology' will contain seven new BLOTTED SCIENCE songs, and will be approximately 24 minutes long.
"Hannes will be going into Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany on January 31, 2011, with V. Santura (DARK FORTRESS, TRIPTYKON) engineering, and is now preparing for the session. Alex is recording his bass tracks at his Hell Whole Studios in Tampa, and I am locked away in my Live Oak Studios here in San Antonio.
"If all goes well, we should have everything recorded in a few months." 2

VOLTURYON: \'Coordinated Mutilation\' Cover Art, Track Listing UnveiledThe cover artwork for "Coordinated Mutilation", the sophomore album from Swedish death metalers VOLTURYON, can be seen below. A gruesome masterpiece by Polish artist Lukasz Jaszak, the cover depicts a psychotic blood covered maniac butchering a cadaver with a chainsaw.
Jaszak is known for his previous works which include the "Lords Of Chaos" book cover and album covers from artists like BLOOD RED THRONE and WITCHMASTER.
"Coordinated Mutilation" will be released in February via United Guttural Records. The CD was recorded at Black Lounge and Abyss studios by Jonas Kjellgren (CARNAL FORGE, SCAR SYMMETRY, CENTINEX). The music on the disc is described in a press release as "aggressive-yet-technical death metal with thrash elements. Straight-forward and well-played. 'Coordinated Mutilation' is one solid-structured song after the next with cool riffs, solos, intensely growled vocals and a tight rhythm section."
The track listing for the CD is as follows:
01. Bloodsoaked Solution
02. Savage Gluttony
03. Eight Corner of Slaughter
04. Euphoria Through Execution
05. Ravaged
06. Coordinated Mutilation

08. Sadistic Molestation
09. Sanguinolency
10. Intense Convulsions
VOLTURYON's previous album, "Blood Cure", was released in 2008 through Obscure Domain Productions. Since then VOLTURYON has played a number of high-profile shows, including the Sweden Rock Festival where the band performed alongside AT THE GATES and CARCASS, among others.

EGYPT CENTRAL To Release \'White Rabbit\' In MayFat Lady Music/ILG/Warner Music Group recording artist EGYPT CENTRAL is gearing up for the release of its sophomore album, "White Rabbit", on May 17.
"White Rabbit" was produced by Skidd Mills (SAVING ABEL, 12 STONES) in early October 2010 and features twelve songs of heavy riffs, lyrics from the soul and strong melodic hooks. Threaded throughout this collection of songs is a story of consequences that occur when one accepts or declines the invitation from the White Rabbit.
"We knew we had solid songs, but when the opportunity came to work with Skidd, we found the person that could not only make a great sounding record, but also bring the best out of us," states lead singer John Falls. "We had a lot of growing to do as men and the time was right to give our fans what they deserved and what we knew we were capable of… kick-ass rock!" "Collectively this is the best group of songs we have ever written," adds bassist Joey Chicago.
Taking its name from one the toughest roads that runs through their hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, EGYPT CENTRAL was formed in 2001.
The first single from "White Rabbit" will be the title track and it will be released February 15 to Active rock radio and iTunes.
EGYPT CENTRAL will hit the road in early 2011. Drummer Blake Allison states, "Our secret weapon has always been our live show.
"I can't tell you how excited we are to play this new batch of songs for our fans that have stuck by us and this is our invitation for anyone new to EGYPT CENTRAL to come along on this journey… we hope you accept!" 1

Former, Current SONIC SYNDICATE Members To Release THE UNGUIDED Debut Single THE UNGUIDED — the new project featuring former SONIC SYNDICATE members Richard Sjunnesson (vocals) and Roland Johansson (vocals), along with current SONIC SYNDICATE guitarist (and Richard's brother) Roger Sjunnesson — will release a two-track digital and physical single entitled "Nightmareland" in February. The artwork for the single was created by the very talented graphic artist Kuang Hong from China, Beijing and can be seen below.
Commented Richard: "We already have about ten songs in the pipeline for the album and everything sounds really awesome! I will assure you it sounds nothing like the 'new' SONIC, and the people who liked the classic SYNDICATE will be familiar with the take on these songs, for sure. I don't think we ever wrote this many songs in such a short period of time. And I believe it's the fruit of having creative freedom and loving what we do — it certainly has upped the pace."
Regarding THE UNGUIDED's touring plans, Richard said, "THE UNGUIDED won't be a touring band in the terms of what SONIC SYNDICATE was. We will focus on random gigs and festivals when it comes to live shows. Touring was what made Roland quit in the first place, and I have no intentions of letting history repeat itself."
Richard Sjunnesson left SONIC SYNDICATE late last year due to what he claims was the band's "inability to play decent music." In a lengthy and rambling message posted on his newly launched official blog, Richard stated that his departure from the group was caused by his "being locked up in a band where there is no room to express one's creativity because it's simply not the right format for the band anymore. Being artistically crippled because heavy music is the wrong forum for a 'metal band,' and having to turn the other cheek pretending to like something that I think is garbage will simply not fly for this crow. There are only so many arguments of the 'scary' screaming vocals to be or not to be in various songs I'm willing to take. Seeing how there was even demands to the band (behind my back) of songs without screaming vocals and how they were later obvious downplayed in the mix might very well have been the deathblow to my emotional attachment of the band. On the other hand, that made this decision very easy for me. It allowed me to go on in life with stuff that feels more important, things that actually manage to stir my heart."
Richard Sjunnesson was temporarily replaced on SONIC SYNDICATE's recent European tour by "longtime friend" Christoffer Andersson.
SONIC SYNDICATE's latest album, "We Rule The Night", was released in Europe on August 27, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records. 17

DEATHENING To Release \'Open Up And Swallow\' This Month Swedish death metallers DEATHENING will release their debut album, "Open Up And Swallow", on January 28 via Rakamarow Records. The CD contains "ten tracks [of] powerful, fast-paced technical riffs as well as shuffle-oriented death, tied together by melodic leads and brutal vocals," according to a press release.
Based in Malmö and Gothenburg, Sweden, DEATHENING comprises members from EMBRACED, MURDERPLAN, SUPRALOAD, CARPET KNIGHTS and WRAPTORS. The band was formed in 2007 by engineers/producers Pål Callmer and Arnold Lindberg who had played together in various bands since the mid-Nineties.
Previously known as lead vocalist of black metal band EMBRACED (Regain Records), Kalle Nimhagen has, with DEATHENING, "taken his voice to an uncompromising level of guttural rawness blended with high-pitched vicious screaming," according to a press release. Drummer Arnold Lindberg is a well-known sound engineer/producer who has made albums for IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO, EVERGREY, HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, DARKEST HOUR, DIMMU BORGIR and DRAGONLAND, among others. He has toured as engineer for IN FLAMES, THE HAUNTED, EUROPE, WITCHERY, DESTRUCTION, HAMMERFALL, KAMELOT and HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, to mention a few. In addition Arnold plays the drums in MURDERPLAN and is the lead singer in SUPRALOAD. Guitarist and songwriter Pål Callmer is the founder of MURDERPLAN (along with Fredrik Söderlund of PUISSANCE and OCTINOMOS), SUPRALOAD and the guitarist in the progressive rock band WRAPTORS. 1

BONAFIDE: \'Fill Your Head With Rock\' EP Samples AvailableSwedish hard rockers BONAFIDE will release a new EP, "Fill Your Head With Rock - Old, New, Tried & True", on January 28 via Black Lodge/Sound Pollution. The band states, "[We] decided to go for a EP instead of the ordinary radio single format this time around. The reasons were many, but first and foremost it shows a band vitalized by the addition of drummer Niklas Matsson (RAGING SLAB, BACKDRAFT), and what better way to introduce a new member than to buy some studio time and record a couple of favorite tracks live in the studio!
"'Fill Your Head With Rock' and 'No Doubt About It' are both taken from [BONAFIDE's] second album, 'Something's Dripping'. We gave the opener, 'Fill Your Head…', a little 'haircut,' making it more representable for radio. This is a true anthem, and a song that has grown into a live favorite. 'No Doubt About It' was picked to be included in the new Atari game 'Test Drive Unlimited 2', released for various platforms early 2011.
"The six-track EP also includes the song 'Kick Me Out' that, for some unknown reason, was not included on the final version of 'Something's Dripping'. We feel this song is a fantastic representation of a band that for the last two years has gained an ever-growing audience around Europe by extensive touring. 'I Don't Need No Doctor', 'I Can't Explain' and 'Nice Boys (Don't Play Rock 'N' Roll)' sees BONAFIDE paying homage to some rock giants. THE WHO's 'I Can't Explain' is another live favorite, often played as an encore. HUMBLE PIE's 'I Don't Need No Doctor' lets singer and frontman Pontus Snibb show off his golden vocal cords, and 'Nice Boys', which was recorded in one take, is two minutes of pure adrenalin. Also included are two videos: 'Hard Livin' Man' and the brand new 'No Doubt About It'."
"Fill Your Head With Rock - Old, New, Tried & True" EP track listing:
01. Fill Your Head With Rock (radio edit)
02. No Doubt About It
03. Kick Me Out (previously unreleased)
04. I Don't Need No Doctor (HUMBLE PIE cover)
05. I Can't Explain (THE WHO cover)
06. Nice Boys Don't Play Rock 'N' Roll (ROSE TATTOO cover)
07. Hard Livin' Man (video)
08. No Doubt About It (video)

STRATOVARIUS: Lyon Concert Also Canceled; Band Issues StatementFinnish melodic metallers STRATOVARIUS have issued the following update:
"Some good news and some bad news at the same time.
"Well, the good news is that we're back on the road with HELLOWEEN. And [drummer] Jörg Michael [who was recently diagnosed with cancer and had his entire thyroid removed] is back in his drum chair after his brush with death.
"The bad news is that Timo Kotipelto [vocals] caught some sort of bacterial infection. We suspect it was something from the backstage food in December, but we don't know. Two of the other people on the tour had the same thing: a very bad dysentery-like stomach infection with vomiting and diarrhea, dehydration, also eventually had to go to hospital, etc.
"Timo's infection is stubborn and in addition to ruining his Christmas break, it has dried out his vocal cords. In his own words, he can't sing a note at the moment. We are currently in France and so far we had to cancel playing in Paris and Lyon.
"We are, of course, very sorry about this, and nobody is more heartbroken or frustrated than Timo himself. Apart from heeding the advice from doctors we are in touch with, the only thing we can do at the moment is to hope Timo gets better. We will ride the 1000 km to Bilbao tonight and hopefully we will all get some sleep on the nice smooth French motorways." 4

EXECRATION: New Song Posted OnlineNorwegian death metal band EXECRATION has completed work on its second album, "Odes Of The Occult", for a March release as a double 12-inch vinyl through Vendlus Records (USA) and Duplicate Records (Norway). According to a press release, the follow-up to 2008's "Syndicate Of Lethargy" "contains 11 tracks of vicious, evil death metal. It parts with the percussive style of previous releases in favor of a wider set of influences drawing from death metal, doom and cult black metal. The 60-minute album will make your ears bleed from dark, brutal doom-laced death metal chemically cleansed of any 'modern' death metal tricks. With 'Odes Of The Occult', the band has also added more diverse vocals in addition to their traditional guttural growls, giving their musical universe a new dimension. The resulting album is a definite step ahead from previous releases."
A track from the CD, "Left In Scorn", is now available for streaming on the EXECRATION MySpace page.

LINKIN PARK\'s MIKE SHINODA Prefers Giving U.S. Fans More Time With New RecordLINKIN PARK is about 10 days away from the start of its 2011 North American tour, the band's first here in support of its latest album, "A Thousand Suns". While the group has already played places like Europe, Israel and Australia since the album's arrival last September, vocalist Mike Shinoda told The Pulse Of Radio he thinks it's okay to give the U.S. a little more time with the new record. "Giving the U.S. a beat to really hear the record and give it a chance and listen to it and know some of the songs before we come out and play it live definitely seems, in theory, to work to our advantage," he said.
"A Thousand Suns" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart with sales of 240,000 copies in its first week, lower than the band's previous efforts.
LINKIN PARK frontman Chester Bennington told MTV News last October that the days of the band selling 10 million copies of an album, like its 2000 debut "Hybrid Theory", are long gone.
Bennington explained, "Trying to compare anything to 'Hybrid Theory' in terms of sales is an exercise in futility: It's not gonna happen. That's the reality of the situation. (Second album 'Meteora') did huge numbers the first week, it was like 800,000. 'Minutes To Midnight' was in the 600,000 mark, and this one's at the 240,000 mark; that's a sign of the times . . . people get their music in different ways now."
"Meteora" sold 810,000 copies in its first week of release, while 2007's "Minutes To Midnight" moved 623,000.
Thanks to downloading and file sharing, Bennington said, "There's probably 10 million people out there who have the record that we don't know about."
LINKIN PARK will offer every concertgoer who attends the tour a complimentary download of the live recording of the show they attend.
All fans have to do is send a text to a short code that will be displayed at each venue, and a link to the download will be emailed to them following the concert.
Bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell said in a statement, "The energy we get from our fans is what makes a great show. We wanted to show our appreciation by giving that experience back to them."
As usual on recent LINKIN PARK tours, one dollar from each ticket will go to Music For Relief, a charity founded by LINKIN PARK to provide relief to victims of natural disasters.
LINKIN PARK kicks off its North American tour on January 20 in Sunrise, Florida. Support acts will be THE PRODIGY, PENDULUM and DOES IT OFFEND YOU, YEAH? 20
