GWYNBLEIDD: Working Album Title RevealedBrooklyn, New York's GWYNBLEIDD has issued the following update:
"It's been a few months since last piece of news. With the beginning of a new year we've decided it's time to send you a quick update on what's going on in the GWYNBLEIDD camp!
"After the October 2009 release of 'Nostalgia', 2010 featured some of GWYNBLEIDD's biggest shows to date, as we had a chance to share the stage with a number of notable acts, including KATATONIA, ENTOMBED, ORPHANED LAND and SWALLOW THE SUN. At the same time we have been focusing on writing new material and starting to put together some of the initial pieces to the puzzle that will be the next GWYNBLEIDD album. No songtitles or anything just yet.. although we might as well reveal that the working title for the next album is 'Ascendance'.
"With that in mind, we are planning to record a 3-4-song demo of this new material, most of the music for which is ready to go! The demo will go primarily to labels we hope to attract to partner on the recording and release of the second GWYNBLEIDD full-length.
"As far as live shows, we have only one confirmed show of 2011 so far, and that is on February 4th, 2011 at Europa Nightclub in Brooklyn. We are also working on a potential short East Coast run in the first half of the year, as well as a few dates in Poland in August — but all of that is in very early planning stages — so keep your fingers crossed for us! Here's to a productive 2011!"
GWYNBLEIDD's debut album, "Nostalgia", was released in October 2009 via BlackCurrant Music.
Founded and based in New York City, GWYNBLEIDD is a band whose four members all hail originally from Poland. It is this experience — leaving one's homeland — that served as the original inspiration for "Nostalgia".
"Nostalgia" showcases GWYNBLEIDD's signature style, blending elements of progressive metal, black metal, death metal, and traditional European folk music. The album was recorded by Michal Kacunel and Tomasz Gajewski at Sia Acoustics, New York, NY, and mixed by Pawel Marciniak at Manximum Studio, Lodz, Poland. The CD was mastered by Alan Silverman (THE KINKS, CHEAP TRICK) at Arf! Digital, New York, NY. Renowned artist Travis Smith (KING DIAMOND, SOILWORK) collaborated with GWYNBLEIDD to create album art that helps tell the story of "Nostalgia"; the CD version of "Nostalgia" comes packaged in a digipack with an extensive 20-page booklet, designed by Smith and the band. 2

DAVE LOMBARDO\'s PHILM: Denver Footage AvailableFan-filmed video footage of Los Angeles-based experimental post-hardcore triumvirate PHILM — featuring drummer Dave Lombardo (SLAYER), guitarist/vocalist Gerry Nestler (CIVIL DEFIANCE), and bassist Pancho Tomaselli (WAR) — performing on December 15, 2010 at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, Colorado as the support act for HALFORD can be viewed below.
While there are elements of metal detected throughout PHILM's sound, the band manages to also incorporate such other styles as jazz, ambient, hardcore punk, experimental, and funk into its unpredictable, cacophony-heavy style. An obvious reason for this multi-genre amalgamation can be directly linked to the gentlemen that play alongside Lombardo in PHILM — Tomaselli is a longtime member of funk rockers WAR, and Nestler fronts prog metallists CIVIL DEFIANCE. Add it all up, and you get the wonderful world of PHILM.
As Lombardo himself explains, expect the unexpected from PHILM. "When people hear about my involvement in PHILM, they automatically assume that it will compare to SLAYER's sound," he says. "They couldn't be more different. PHILM's sound is almost bipolar — very unexpected of something that I would be so passionate about, and be a part of. I have scaled down my drum set to a four-piece, reminiscent to the drummers of the late '60s that influenced me. Each song is unique in itself, I like to refer to it as 'rhythmic emotion.' It's almost like taking all the heavy songs of the '60s and bringing that era to a modern plateau, then blending them with the modern trance and psychedelic sounds of today. When I think of PHILM, that's where I go."
In a recent interview with AOL's Noisecreep, Nestler stated about PHILM's formation, "Dave and I first got together in 1997 to start an original band. We later regrouped between SLAYER's scheduled tour dates in late 2009, playing some upstairs jams at the Rainbow in Hollywood. We then decided to restart our band. Pancho had met Dave a few years back at one Dave's drum clinics and we decided to invite him in."
Regarding PHILM's sound, Nestler said, "The music of PHILM is channeled through the many different influences of drum and bass, expressionism, and underground that ranges via ancient and indigenous to street. There are many different things that Dave and I have been into that have contributed to the vision of PHILM. Pancho's highly skilled bass playing, chordal color and shape have helped expand the overall sound instrumentation and groove. Dave Lombardo's drumming goes without comparison, except that it might be said, to quote Pancho that 'it's like playing with the seven, not four, horses of the Apocalypse behind you.'"

KAMELOT With CIRCUS MAXIMUS Vocalist MICHAEL ERIKSEN: Performance Footage AvailableUnedited, amateur video footage of American melodic metallers KAMELOT performing the song "Center Of The Universe" with guest vocalist Michael Eriksen of the Norwegian metal band CIRCUS MAXIMUS during KAMELOT's headline performance at ProgPower USA XI in Atlanta, Georgia on September 10, 2010 can be viewed below.
KAMELOT was forced to cancel its fall 2010 North American tour after the band's vocalist, Roy Khan (full name: Roy Sætre Khantatat), was taken ill. However, the group still went ahead and played the ProgPower concert as a one-off performance with Eriksen.
Due to "continuing medical and personal issues," Roy Khan will not be able to finish the remaining touring in support of KAMELOT's latest album, "Poetry For The Poisoned". His temporary replacement will be Fabio Lione (RHAPSODY OF FIRE), with additional guest vocal appearances planned throughout the tour by Simone Simons (EPICA), Tommy Karevik (SEVENTH WONDER) and many more surprise guests.
Fabio Lione is eager to get on the road, stating, "I am excited and pleased to be part of the next KAMELOT tour..I always loved the sound of the band..and I think this will be a great experience for me, the band and for all the fans of great music and KAMELOT... See you soon on tour and let's rock!!!"
The 2011 European leg of "The Pandemonium Tour" will begin on April 22 at Paris' famous Elysee Montmartre venue, taking the band's spectacular show to 18 top venues and a host of new cities in Europe.
"Poetry For The Poisoned" sold around 6,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD was released in North America on September 14, 2010 via the group's own label, Kamelot Media Group (KMG Recordings), and in Europe on September 10 through earMUSIC/Edel. Marquee/Avalon Records made the CD available in Japan. 15

The cover artwork for "Blind Ride" was created by Gustavo Sazes (ARCH ENEMY, FIREWIND, SONIC SYNDICATE, GOD FORBID) of Abstrata Art, while the 3D modeling (also known as meshing; the process of developing a mathematical representation of any three-dimensional surface of object [either inanimate or living] via specialized software) was handled by HIBRIA guitarist Diego Kasper.
Commented Kasper: "We're sure this is the most intense and raging album in our career so far. Besides keeping the speed, dense arrangements, and melodic lines of the heavy metal we've played until now, we allowed influences from thrash to progressive to permeate our music. We can't wait to hear the feedback from our audience, live and through the web. Also, we have recently inked a deal with Base 2 Productions, in charge of the management of SEPULTURA and ANGRA, and for sure all these new partnerships [label/management] would take us to another level in a worldwide basis."
HIBRIA is:
Iuri Sanson (Vocals)
Abel Camargo (Guitar)
Diego Kasper (Guitar)
Benhur Lima (Bass)
Eduardo Baldo (Drums) 2

VOMITORY: New Album Title AnnouncedSwedish death metallers VOMITORY have set "Opus Mortis VIII" as the title of their eighth full-length album, due in the spring via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Leon Music Studios outside Karlstad, Sweden with producer Rikard Löfgren.
Comments the band: "On Sunday, December 19th, we completed the work on the eighth VOMITORY album that we have entitled 'Opus Mortis VIII'! It's our eighth musical work of death, so we think it's a very fitting title and we have some nice things going on artwork-wise for this one.
"Producer and studio owner Rikard Löfgren has done a tremendous job to get the best sounding VOMITORY album to date — no competition! We are so fucking happy with the result. The production is absolutely top-notch and the material offers diversity and dynamics that you haven't quite heard from VOMITORY before. You will get 14 songs altogether and roughly 54 minutes playing time."
Löfgren co-produced VOMITORY's last two albums.
VOMITORY recently posted its cover version of NAPALM DEATH's "Mass Appeal Madness" on MySpace. The song was recorded at Speedball studios in Karlstad, Sweden in April 2005. It was engineered by Johan Carlsson and mixed by Henrik Larsson in Malmö, Sweden.
VOMITORY's seventh album, "Carnage Euphoria", came out in May 2009 via Metal Blade Records. 1

DEW-SCENTED Guitarist QuitsRhythm guitarist Martin Walczak has left German thrashers DEW-SCENTED "due to changes in his personal life and lack of availability to move forwards with music at this stage." The band states, "It's a shame to see him go, but we certainly wish Martin all the very best with his next goals and tasks in life."
Walczak made his final appearance with DEW-SCENTED at the Winter Metal Meeting in Leer, Germany on December 18.
DEW-SCENTED has recruited "a friend of the band" to play session guitar during the group's European tour with NILE starting on January 20 in Katowice, Poland.
"Invocation", the latest album from DEW-SCENTED, was released in Japan on September 15 via Spiritual Beast. The Japanese edition of the CD came with an alternate coloring of the cover artwork (sort of the "post-apocalypse version") and included four bonus tracks. The bonus tracks are two original songs, "Recall The Pain" (instrumental) and "The Death Of Common Sense", as well as two cover versions that the band recorded during the album session, 'Slaughterhouse' by U.S. power-thrashers POWERMAD and the track "Superstar Destroyer" by GENOCIDE SUPERSTARS from Sweden.
"Invocation" was released on May 24, 2010 in Europe via Metal Blade Records and May 25. 2010 in North America through Prosthetic Records.
The album artwork was created by Björn Goosses of Killustrations.
"Invocation" was recorded and mixed at Soundlodge Studio in Northern Germany with producer Jörg Uken (GOD DETHRONED, SINISTER).

CRADLE OF FILTH Frontman Speaks Out On Being Dropped From Suffolk \'Icon\' RaceMetal Hammer magazine spoke with vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH earlier today after Dani was dropped from the race to be named one of the top 10 icons of the U.K.'s Suffolk county despite receiving the most votes in an online poll.
The Suffolk Icons site was launched by Choose Suffolk, a partnership aimed at putting the county "on the map." The organization asked people to submit their photographs of landscapes, people or products for the Suffolk Icons contest.
Filth, 37, recorded 13,025 votes, 11,806 more than the nearest rival image.
However, all the public votes now appear to have been ignored by the judges at Choose Suffolk who are instead re-staging the poll with a shortlist of only 20 approved images — and no Filth.
Metal Hammer: Were you surprised to wake up this morning and be all over the national newspapers?
Dani: "I've been in The Sun for worse. It didn't include Jesus or the government this time so I was slightly relieved but it's all been very weird. The whole thing was weird from the off, in concept, anyway. I feel quite knocked by the whole thing. They've tried to do one thing to prove a point that Suffolk is diverse or whatever and when it's not the painting of Suffolk they expected, they withdrew it."
Metal Hammer: Is it annoying that 13,000 people have had their views swept under the carpet by Choose Suffolk?
Dani: "It is, actually. Somebody in The Daily Express or The Daily Mail had said something about it being rigged by our fans but I thought, 'How do you work that one out?' We had 13,000 fans vote and Ipswich Town Football Club are in the running, so why didn't all of their fans vote? There must be hundreds of thousands of fans of tractors, why didn't they vote? So, that's a load of cobblers as well."
Metal Hammer: Did you read that Choose Suffolk had said they wanted somebody that was "symbolic of Suffolk and extend across the county and beyond its borders?" Having played to, quite literally millions of people across the world over 19 years, was that a bit insulting?
Dani: "Who did they want? Sade, or someone? Yeah, we have done that and I have banged on about Suffolk quite a bit, which is in their favor, at least."
Metal Hammer: It's disrespectful to both you personally and metal as a whole when we're just, kind of, swept under the carpet.
Dani: "Yeah, totally. The opportunity was there for everyone to vote and everyone had an equal chance, like playing the lottery, if you can't expect to win it." 46

Updated: CRADLE OF FILTH Frontman Dropped From \'Icon\' Race After Getting Most VotesAccording to Express.co.uk, vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH has topped the race to be named one of the top 10 icons of the U.K.'s Suffolk county.
According to The Telegraph, Choose Suffolk spokesman Richard Ginger was unable to say why the judging panel had dropped Dani Filth from the final lineup, despite him having by far the highest number of votes
Ginger said: "Effectively the judging panel were looking for icons which had a wider currency outside the borders of Suffolk. I don't want to speak about their decision. Their remit was to look for the icons of Suffolk."
Tim Passmore, the interim chief executive of Choose Suffolk, said in a statement: "The idea of what constitutes an icon will always divide opinion and stimulate engaging debate (which was part of the project's remit).
"The finalist Icons have been selected because the judging panel believe they have a countywide resonance and are symbolic of Suffolk, and extend across the county and beyond its borders.
"As a user-generated gallery, the site was designed to engage with visitors and encourage their participation. We are encouraged this remit has been successful.
"However, while some of the images on the site may have gained a larger proportion of visitors' votes, the judging panel felt that their list of finalists displays the required credentials to act as representative iconic images of Suffolk."
In a recent online posting, Dani stated about his inclusion on the Suffolk Icons site, "I know it's a bit of a laugh and that no one really can compare to the grandeur of ducks or a disused Victorian swimming pool, but it is really an eye-opener for a lot of people who live in my county who have never heard of CRADLE OF FILTH or indeed crypt-crawling death-rock (lol!), or the absolute drivel spouted on the web page about me and mine. And for of all out there in the great cosmic beyond who haven't voted for me yet, I hereby promise that if I become Major of Ipswich, England, I'm turning it into Hallowe'en Town and you're all welcome to visit!" 6

APOCALYPTICA Pulls SHINEDOWN Frontman\'s Vocals Off New SingleAccording to The Pulse Of Radio, Finnish rock cello quartet APOCALYPTICA has been forced to pull the vocals of SHINEDOWN frontman Brent Smith off the band's new single, "Not Strong Enough". Smith's vocal track remains on the version found on the group's latest album, "7th Symphony". But a source told The Pulse Of Radio that APOCALYPTICA failed to secure the right to release the song to radio with Smith's voice on it from SHINEDOWN's label, Atlantic Records. Instead, the radio version will feature vocals from HOOBASTANK's Doug Robb.
APOCALYPTICA drummer Mikko Siren told The Pulse Of Radio how "Not Strong Enough" came together with Smith on vocals. "We met Brent some two years ago," he said. "We did some festivals in (the) States and we saw them live, and we were really impressed of his voice. And the song itself, I think it really requires that strong voice who can sing that melodic lines, and he holds it up so great. So when we had the song and we remembered him being around, we asked him and we were lucky enough that he agreed to come in." 7

NEGURA BUNGET Planning \'The Transilvanian Trilogy\' NEGURA BUNGET — the Romanian band that incorporates elements of black metal, progressive metal, folk metal and dark ambient — has issued the following update:
"2010 was the most intense year in the history of the band. Two albums released, 'Maiestrit' on Prophecy Production and 'Vîrstele Pamîntului' on Code666 Records, followed by a long European tour as headliners (Spirit Of The Land Tour — 47 dates), another tour in autumn (Black Trolls Over Europe — ten dates), some festivals in between (including Hellfest), some lineup changes (guitarists Corb and Spin were replaced by Urzit and Fulmineos), a MCD to symbolically end our ten years cooperation with Code666 Records and a lot of work, all make this year special and unforgettable.
"Figures for 2010: 72 gigs played, two European tours as headliners, more than 50,000 km of driving on our van, 66 answered interviews, more than 10,000 CDs sold.
"We thank everybody who helped us in any way, and we promise we are already focusing on making 2011 even more special!
"The firsts signs are here already, 2011 marks 15 years of NEGURA BUNGET, so all our activities will celebrate this anniversary. We already have the release of the live DVD, 'Focul Viu', set for March, the April tour along ENSLAVED (which includes a special performance at Ragnarok Festival) and some summer festivals (of which Party. San is already announced). 2011 will also develop one of our most ambitious projects, 'The Transilvanian Trilogy'.
"We hope to meet again as many of you as possible and meanwhile we wish meaningful experiences in the year ahead."
NEGURA BUNGET is putting the finishing touches on a new mini-CD, "Poarta De Dincolo" (English translation: "A Gate From The Above" or "Carrying From The Other Side"). The effort is being recorded once again at Negura Music studio and, as the title suggests, focuses on exploring the relation between worlds, either from above, under or beyond.
"Poarta De Dincolo" will mark NEGURA BUNGET's final release for Code666 Records, putting an end to a collaboration that began almost 10 years ago.

NIGHTWISH Bassist/Vocalist On New Album: \'These Songs Need Some Really Serious Explosives\'Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH entered the studio in October to begin recording the follow-up to 2007's "Dark Passion Play".
Commented bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala: "At the moment I have most of the bass tracks for the new album recorded. I started already a few weeks back, but I've been taking my time with the recordings. It's the luxury of having your own equipment and a former job as studio engineer. For now I've been taking it pretty easy for the last two weeks. The holiday season and all that goes with it, you know...
"Right now I'm collecting my inner plutonium for the critical mass again. I always do that before recording something. After all, we're not a pop band, and these songs need some really serious explosives. Too bad you can't hear them yet...
"I just had to twist the knife here. I'm a sadist also.
"The songs are really good, by the way...
"Of course we all would like to see this project finished, released and out for all the world to hear.
"The success we've been blessed or cursed with is demanding in its own ways. Everything has to be planned in long term. All the parts of releasing albums, videos and tours have to match carefully when you get to this stage of things. And so we all get fed up with the waiting.
"Try to be patient and we'll do our best to reward you later on."
According to NIGHTWISH, "Emppu [Vuorinen] is nearly done with his guitar recordings, having done four comp tracks to all the songs plus half of all the leads. (The solos and acoustics are best left to record AFTER the orchestral and choir sessions). Marco is also finished with his bass recordings so now we basically just wait for [arranger] Pip [Williams] and Tuomas [Holopainen, keyboards] to get the orchestral arrangements sorted out for the London sessions in February."
Check out new photos from the studio at this location. 254
