STALA & SO. (formerly SO.), the Finnish melodic rock band featuring LORDI drummer Kita (real name: Sampsa Astala) on vocals and ex-LORDI bassist Kalma (real name: Niko Hurme; also known by his current stage name Nick Gore), is competing to represent Finland in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest. There will be three weekly semifinals in January 2011, each featuring five artists. From every semifinal, three songs will proceed to the final. Finnish broadcasting company YLE will then pick a wild card among those artists who were eliminated in the semifinals to complete the final lineup of ten songs. During the final, three songs will be selected to proceed to the superfinal (to be held on February 12), where the Finnish entry for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest will be chosen.

.Keyboardist Carver from Toronto-based black metallers ECLIPSE ETERNAL has issued the following update:

"Things have been a little quiet from the Eclipse camp lately, so here’s a run-down of what’s going on.

The recording of our ensuing album, The Essence Of Hopelessness, is thankfully nearing completion (recording was a little slow due to some logistical issues, but we're back on track now). The bulk of the songs are done; what remains is to finish the keyboards, do the few clean vocal passages, and get Count Vain (rhythm guitar) in to do some tracks. And then…onto the penultimate studio step: mixing.




Voldamares completed his vocal tracks today and they sounded fucking tremendous.

The other day I finished doing the keys for 'Death Obssession' and 'The Noose', and am now even more enthused about the strange quality of this record. The latter piece is like nothing we've ever done-or released, at any rate-and I’m further convinced that the peculiarities of the album are appropriate in terms of a logical musical progression. We've really let loose and allowed ourselves the luxury of incorporating further external touches to our core of black metal, thus creating an album which has afforded us few, if any, musical/lyrical boundaries. As with our previous records, The Essence... is conceptual (though decidedly non-linear in terms of having a storyline), and it seems that this time we've embraced a theme more consciously than on either Reign Of The Unholy Blackened Empire or Ubermensch: Evolution Beyond The Species, which adds a level of real cohesion to the varying music. Ultimately the changes may not be overwhelming, but in addition to the two newest members (line-up changes will invariably influence direction), this stylistic leap is, we feel, a real progression for Eclipse Eternal."

Singer Gérard Fois from French metallers ETERNAL FLIGHT has issued the following update:

"Today is a great day - Mark McGee (ex-VICIOUS RUMORS, LUV PLANET) will record some solos on the new Eternal Flight album!

Mark is mostly known in the metal genre for replacing Vinnie Moore (UFO) in Vicious Rumors in '86 and playing, writing awesome songs and solos on four albums! I'm personally very happy as I'm a fan of his playing, he has a great sound, write gorgeous melodies and can also shred like no other! As a singer, it's great for me too cause Carl Albert the late singer for Vicious Rumors was an influence, he's sadly missed and one of the song on which Mark play is a kind of homage to Carl, DIO, Midnight (CRIMSON GLORY), Criss Oliva (SAVATAGE), some of my heroes gone too soon.

Pitch Black Records heißt die norwegischen Melodic Metaller PICTURES OF PAIN willkommen und wird das Debüt Album "The Reckoning" am 26. November 2010 veröffentlichen. Das neue Album "The Reckoning" wurde kürzlich von dem legendären KING DIAMOND Gitarristen Andy LaRocque in seinem Sonic Train Studio gemastert.

German extreme metallers DEATH OF DESIRE are streaming a sneak peak of their new album ANTIhuman on their official MySpace page - click here to listen to the "unmastered raw mixes - final result will destroy," says the band.

ANTIhuman was recorded at Iron Forge Studios by David Voll in Cincinnati, OH. The album is being produced by Steve Tucker (ex-MORBID ANGEL) and the intro was created by Attila Csihar (MAYHEM) under his VOID OF VOICES project.

SOUNDGARDEN released its first collection of music since 1996, "Telephantasm", on September 28 in the U.S. and September 27 internationally. This career-spanning retrospective album includes never-before-heard unreleased track "Black Rain", taken from the "Badmotorfinger" recording sessions.

The super deluxe collector's edition of "Telephantasm" is available for a limited time and will includes two CDs, the limited-edition DVD, three heavy vinyl discs, a collectible poster, lithos, and much more.

The 12-song disc will then be available on October 5 at all music retail outlets and on the band's web site.

On September 28, A&M/UMe released three expanded versions of "Telephantasm" which include a double-disc with 12 additional tracks, five of which are previously unreleased, and SOUNDGARDEN's first-ever DVD, featuring 20 videos, 13 of which have never been released, a deluxe three-LP vinyl edition and an individually numbered super deluxe collector's edition. Maldives-based thrashers SERENITY DIES have parted ways with bassist/vocalist Chuck and guitarist Xiao due to personal reasons. According to a statement from the band, there is no ill will on either side and everyone remains close friends. Despite this, SERENITY DIES is fully committed to moving forward as a band and has announced that guitarist/vocalist Jared MacEachern (ex-SANCTITY) and bassist Addo (ex-FASYLIVE) have joined the fold. With this new lineup, SERENITY DIES is said to be "more powerful than ever" and is hard at work on the follow-up to its "Hacksawcracy" EP, which was released earlier this year.

Pomona, California thrashers BONDED BY BLOOD have parted ways with vocalist Jose Barrales and have replaced him with Mauro Gonzales (MUTANTS OF WAR).

Commented the band: "After five long years of hard work and dedication, our vocalist and friend Jose Barrales has decided to part ways with the band due to personal and financial reasons. We all wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors! We have, however, moved forward and found a great replacement for the upcoming tours. He is a friend, fan and a great singer named Mauro Gonzalez from local band MUTANTS OF WAR. We have been rehearsing with Mauro non-stop for the upcoming 2010 calendar and can't wait to hit the road! Refreshed and recharged BONDED BY BLOOD is ready to crush your face in like never before! Be sure to catch us all at our upcoming tour dates with EARLY MAN / EVILE and OVERKILL / FORBIDDEN / GAMA BOMB!"

Barrales stated: "Since BONDED BY BLOOD is leaving on tour today, I've decided to let you all know that I have left the band. It was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in a very long time and it crushes me to do so, but I just couldn't continue any longer.

"For the past two to three years, I have been struggling with financial, personal, band and family problems that seemed to get even more chaotic as time went by.

"I don't really want to go into detail on my personal reason on why I left the band; what I really want to say in this announcement is thank you — thank you to all the bands, fans and friends that helped me out on the road, thank you for believing in me and BONDED BY BLOOD, thank you for all the support.

"As for BONDED BY BLOOD, they will continue without me. For the past couple of weeks they have been rehearsing with a good friend of ours, Mauro Gonzales, from the band MUTANTS OF WAR. I only hope you guys treat him with the same respect you treated me.

"As for me, I will be around. I will never leave the music world, but for now, I need to fix some problems of my own.

"I hope you respect my decision and hope one day I can be on stage once again.

"One last thank you to everyone at Earache: Dig, Dan, Ali, Talita, Al, Summer, Rich and Ant. Ruben, Jerry, Juan and Alex: you guys will never be forgotten, best five years ever. Give them hell, fuckers!"

THE WAY OF PURITY, a band from Sweden that mixes black metal, doom metal, death metal, grindcore and metalcore, has announced the addition of Norwegian singer Tiril Skårdal to the group's ranks.

Commented the band: "Born in Sandnes, Norway, Tiril is a pure and complete artist with an outstanding personality. Music, drama, fireworks are the diciplines that she loves.

"This is a magical moment for us since Tiril joined the band and asked us to be the only effigy of our project. We are so proud. That's all we can say.

Tiril described herself with the following words: "My life is a set of actions, performed mainly for their symbolic value. My religion includes actions which are arbitrarily chosen by me, or dictated purely by logic, chance, necessity. The repetitive behavior systematically used by me is purely made for satisfaction of my spiritual and emotional needs or strengthening and purification. Alongside the dimensions of reverence of my gods, my rituals can have a more basic personal function in expressing and reinforcing my links with the cult I belong to. The earliest known undisputed evidence dates from the Upper Paleolithic. This helped in creating an evelasting and firm sense of my identity.

"I am running along the methaphysical edge of reality. My expressed wish that some form of adversity or misfortune will befall and attach to your eternity. You can't protect yourself from the Evil Eye."

Davey Lee, the San Antonio, Texas-based guitarist for the metal bands REVEREND and BYFIST, died this morning (Friday, October 1) of a heart attack. He had played the guitar since the age of 15.

REVEREND has released the following statement regarding Davey's passing:

"With sad and heavy hearts we want to let all of our friends and fans know that Davey Lee, our lead guitarist, passed away Friday morning [October 1] at 10:00 a.m. from a heart attack. We will greatly miss his sense of humor, his love and dedication to his family and friends, metal music and to BYFIST/REVEREND.

"You will be sorely missed, Davey, but we know you will keep on rockin'!!!

Italian bloodsuckers THEATRES DES VAMPIRES will release their new album, "Moonlight Waltz", on January 14, 2011 via Aural Music. The CD was recorded at Temple of Noise studios in Rome, Italy with producer Christian Ice and will feature guest appearances by Snowy Shaw (DIMMU BORGIR, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, THERION, NOTRE DAME), Cadaveria (CADAVERIA, DYNABYTE) and Eva Breznikar (LAIBACH). The first pressing of the album will be made available in a deluxe limited slipcase edition, including a special bonus DVD with exclusive video material, behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the album, interviews and more.

New Jersey/New York's ILL NIÑO will release its new album, "Dead New World", on October 26 via Victory Records. The follow-up to 2008's "Enigma" was self-produced, with co-production coming from Clint Lowery (SEVENDUST) and Sahaj Ticotin (RA), and mixed by Eddie Wohl (36 CRAZYFISTS, ANTHRAX, SMILE EMPTY SOUL). The album artwork was created by Tim Butler of XIII Designs (DISTURBED, SLIPKNOT, METALLICA, SLAYER, MICHAEL JACKSON).
