TRISTANIA Hi
This being my first official blogpost as a member of Tristania, I would first direct my humble gratitude to the band, and to all you readers, listeners, fans! I have loved my time in Tristania so far, and we're just getting started. Thanks for all the nice emails and all the support! Well, enough smooth talk, let's get down to business! We have a new record in the making, as some of you might be aware of. The songs are mainly done, the lyrics are getting there, and recording dates are to be booked soon. The creation of this album has been for me personally the most exciting and exhausting task I have ever embarked on. 13 ideas are slowly but steadily growing into 13 brand new songs. From idea to draft to sketch to demo to pre-prod, and soon, to the new Tristania album. When I joined the band, they told me that the creative process was a
collective effort. My opinions and ideas would count just as much as the people that has been in the band a decade or more. To some it may seem ridiculous to "jeopardise" the most important aspect in the band, the songwriting, by inviting someone completely fresh to participate. Even if we had very different musical background and preferences, Anders took the initiative to find the common ground, and create new music, and after working together with Anders only a couple of sessions, it was clear to me that we had much more in common musically, than our background would indicate. I was actually stoked in the beginning, that they would let me into the songwriting process. I didn't have much experience as a songwriter, and very little to show for. This is probably where I am the most grateful. That Anders from the beginning encouraged me to write, and always made me feel that my ideas were, even if the earliest ones were rather immature, welcomed, and were considered seriously. Now, thousands of working hours, hundreds of ideas, dozens of half songs and drafts and 13 brand new Tristania songs later, what I am really proud of, is that we have lived up to the most important principal in Tristania's music ever. That principal is not a certain mood, guitar sound, vocal style or lyrical content, but the fact that Tristania's music changes according to our hearts, it grows with the band. What you will hear on next year's album is the accurate sound of where Tristania is NOW. We have an amazing blend, where all seven members have contributed creatively. Still it sounds like Tristania, which means it doesn't sound like anything else, in my ears! Remember how World of Glass sounded fresh and different, and maybe a little strange, after Widow's Weeds and Beyond the Veil? World of Glass quickly established itself as a natural part of the Tristanian sound. The same thing happened with both Ashes and Illumination. To some, they maybe didn't sound like "Tristania" immediately, but now they are a natural part of the band's history and sound. My point is, the music that is going to be released in the near future from Tristania, is not going to sound like "Tristania" immediately. But it will sound like the sum of all the members of Tristania now. And I dare to bet that it will find it's very natural place in Tristania's great and diverse discography. Just like all the other albums. This is, like I said the single most important principal. Tristania creates music from the heart, and not from an idea of what Tristania is. All this being said, I can't wait to let you hear the music. It's tiring to write about music. Just as when I read a review or an article about music, I want to HEAR it. It's more or less the same when I write about music. I want to PLAY if to you!
"-Writing about music, is like dancing about architecture" (Frank Zappa)
Until next time, have a good time! Best, Ole. 17

SHADOW GALLERY: New \'Digital Ghosts\' Trailers Posted OnlineSHADOW GALLERY, widely considered a major and innovative force within the realms of progressive rock and metal, have returned with their sixth studio effort, "Digital Ghosts". Following up 2005's "Room V" as well as the "Prime Cuts" compilation release of material from previous albums in 2007, "Digital Ghosts" will be released on October 26 in Europe and November 3 in North America via InsideOut Music.
After the tragic passing of lead singer Mike Baker in October 2008, SHADOW GALLERY's new CD introduces new vocalist Brian Ashland and not only sees the entire band once again sharing additional vocal duties but also features guest vocal appearances by Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR) and Clay Barton (SUSPYRE) to complement the release. With "Digital Ghosts", SHADOW GALLERY's members Brendt Allman, Carl Cadden-James, Gary Wehrkamp, Ashland and returning drummer Joe Nevolo (who appears on two songs of the record) have focused their powerful energies on creating a seamless blend of progressive, metal, and symphonic rock as a transcendent work of musical art that advances the boundaries of these genres into new directions.
Commented Wehrkamp: "As a band, we are thrilled to have new music to share with everyone. This album is a dedication to our wonderful fans, and also to the memory of our singer and friend Mike Baker.
"We had to deal with a few tragic events during the course of this recording, but pressing on we approached the production the way we always do: Trying to provide our very best. We had a terrific time making this record and hope all the emotion and love we put into it endures, transcends and touches everyone who is ready for it.
"You can expect some shades of a new direction on this record. We had long been trying to incorporate more prog elements and the time was right to stretch out a little bit, while remaining true to the heavy and powerful rock based songs that have been a staple of SHADOW GALLERY since the earliest days."
"Digital Ghosts" track listing:
01. With Honor
02. Venom
03. Pain
04. Gold Dust

ASSEMBLAGE 23 release new album10 years after the release of Assemblage 23's debut album "Contempt" comes "Compass", the sixth album from the one-man project. The album is preceded by a 5-track maxi-single entitled "Spark", which includes 2 exclusive b-sides as well as remixes from Combichrist and Jade Puget of AFI & Blaqk Audio. "Compass" will be available in two formats: a limited, 2-disc version containing an extra 3 new songs, as well as remixes from Burikusu!!! and KMFDM, and a regular, 10-track version. Each version will have its own unique artwork.
Assemblage 23's previous album "Meta" hinted at some change to the band's sound, and "Compass" provides perhaps the most dramatic evolution in style so far. "Compass" was composed with the idea of simply making good, electronic songs without being overly concerned with fitting into specific trappings of genre. Although A23's signature sound is still evident, this time the band takes cues from electro-house, post-punk, and the indie electronics scene.
Tours of both Europe and the United States are the works, and a formal announcement will be made when dates are secured. 9

MNEMIC Begins Recording New Album Danish modern metallers MNEMIC have entered the studio to begin recording their fourth studio album, "Sons Of The System", for a January 2010 release via Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented the band: "After a minor two-year break from touring, we have returned to the studio to record 15 brand new tracks. Our batteries are recharged and we are extremely excited to let you all hear the new stuff. The material itself is a mixture of grind, rock, poly-rhythmics, and electronics, and represents the sound of a more mature MNEMIC — at least in our humble opinion.
"Compared to the last album, the recordings will be kept completely on Danish soil. This time, we are more within our own comfort zone and will be working with the same dude that made us two great sounding albums in the past, which is none other than [Danish producer] Tue Madsen [HALFORD, BEHEMOTH, KATAKLYSM, THE HAUNTED], who is a really good friend and a great producer.
"The drums will be tracked at [Tue's] Antfarm Studio [in Aarhus, Denmark], while guitars, bass and vocals will be immortalized at the band's own studio under Tue's supervision. At the end of the recording process, electronics, mix and mastering will then again be handled at Antfarm Studio.
"During the recording process, we will try to keep you all updated on the progress via SonsOfTheSystem.com. There will be tons of updates, pictures, videos and information directly from the band." 1

ORPHANED LAND: New Album Due In JanuaryIsrael's progressive folk metal masters ORPHANED LAND are scheduled to release their new album, "The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR", in January 2010 via Century Media Records. The highly anticipated follow-up to 2004's "Mabool" was mixed by legendary musician/producer Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE, OPETH) and was previously described by ORPHANED LAND vocalist Kobi Farhi as "one of the most interesting and original albums the worldwide metal scene has ever known!"
ORPHANED LAND made a rare U.S. appearance at the ProgPower USA X festival, which was held September 11-12, 2009 at the Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia.
Commented Farhi: "Playing in the USA is always an adventure for us. The fans are very much devoted and even the people who don't know your band give you the right attention.
"When we were announced for ProgPower USA [festival] last year, I was sure that by this time our album would be out, but since it's a complex album, we delayed it and had to leave the studio just for this show, so in a way, the ProgPower fans were the first in the world to hear us play an unprecedented, SIX brand new songs.
"The reaction was great and the fans were with us all along the show — clapping hands, jumping and even belly-dancing.
"After so much time in the studio, we really needed that feedback and I'm very grateful [to] all the fans.
"I feel that our music is a new breeze for the metal scene, a breeze that brings a new tune and sound of metal from the Middle East and we know that this was just the starting point. It is now the time to bring our unique brand of music to all of North America, so stay tuned as we will be back soon."
An audio teaser for "The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR" is available for streaming on the band's official web site. 7

The cover artwork was created by Michal "Xaay" Loranc, whom NILE guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders had previously worked with on his second solo album, "Saurian Exorcisms".
"Those Whom the Gods Detest" ( cover) track listing:

02. Hittite Dung Incantation

Sanders told Revolver magazine earlier in the year that the band's sixth full-length album will likely be NILE's most eclectic offering to date. "We're going to some very unexpected places," he said. "I've been listening to some oud music [the oud is a Middle Eastern lute — Ed.], Iranian music, and some Hindu stuff, and that stuff's definitely rubbing off on the new songs."
"Those Whom the Gods Detest" is scheduled for a November 3 North American release via Nuclear Blast Records. 14

SUSPERIA: \'Character Flaw\' Video Released"Character Flaw", the new video from Norwegian metallers SUSPERIA, can be viewed here. The Daniel William Bones-directed performance clip continues the band's use of apocalyptic imagery as featured on its latest album, "Attitude". Shot in June, the video celebrates the return to action of vocalist Athera (real name: Pål Mathiesen), who was sidelined earlier this year following a near-fatal heart attack that stemmed from a previously undiagnosed heart defect.
"Attitude" was released in May through Candlelight Records. The follow-up to 2007's "Cut From Stone" was recorded in Norway and was mixed at Studio Fredman in Sweden. It features guest appearances by Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT) and Shagrath (DIMMU BORGIR).
An e-card for "Attitude" can be accessed at this location.
SUSPERIA enlisted Bernt Fjellestad from fellow Norwegian band GUARDIANS OF TIME to stand in for Athera for the group's spring 2009 U.K. tour. 4
