KATAKLYSM: New Album Title AnnouncedKATAKLYSM singer Maurizio Iacono has issued the following update:
"First off, I want to sincerely thank everyone involved with The Invaluable Darkness Tour we just completed with our friends DIMMU BORGIR. We would like to thank them for treating us like brothers and to all their crew for helping us out when we needed it. This new friendship is forged in blood! Thanks also to DEVILDRIVER whom we shared a bus with and developed a new friendship. Last but not least, the dudes in UNEARTH, all cool people. This tour was a triumph for us in all senses, especially to be able to play for our fans on a bigger package, who proved to us everyday that all the blood and sweat wasn't for nothing. The words of encouragement from our fans mean EVERYTHING.
"We're gonna finish writing a new album, titled 'Prevail', this summer, because we know how important this one will be for our fans, and 'prevail' is exactly what we want to do with this album. It has to be as perfect as we can make it. If it doesn't bring the goosebumps, it ain't coming out right. Guitarist J-F Dagenais will produce and engineer the album as always. In the meantime, we have two more tours planned this year: late summer or early fall in North America and in Europe in October with BEHEMOTH and ABORTED. A big thank you to all our supporters worldwide. We won't disappoint — you know how we roll!"

HIMSA Completes Recording Process, Posts New VideoSeattle's HIMSA has completed the recording process for its highly anticipated Century Media Records debut. The group tracked the drums, bass and guitars with Steve Carter (who produced the "Courting Tragedy and Disaster" album), Devin Townsend (LAMB OF GOD, DARKEST HOUR) handled vocal duties and the renowned producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED) is currently mixing the disc. The album is set for a late August release. Click here to view a video of Devin Townsend and Johnny Pettibone tracking vocals, shot by King Of Hearts Productions.
Regarding the new material, bassist Derek Harn previously said, "The new album draws from the strengths of our last two records, 'Courting Tragedy and Disaster' and 'Hail Horror', but this is an entirely new chapter for HIMSA and our fans. Sammi Curr (guitars) wrote a lot of the music for 'Courting', and Kirby Johnson (guitars) wrote most of the tracks on 'Hail Horror' (when Sammi wasn't in the band), so the two of them have joined forces to craft a whole new level of rage. We're looking at about 10 or 11 songs right now, and are extremely proud of them.
"This album will be an evolution of everything people have grown to expect and respect from our enduring and grumpy metal band, with a few new twists. We're older, but we're wiser and faster than ever."

H.I.M.: New 'Venus Doom' Release Date Revealed Finnish goth metallers H.I.M. have reportedly set September 4 as the new release date for their follow-up to 2005's "Dark Light", entitled "Venus Doom". The band's sixth studio CD was recorded at the Finnvox facility in Helsinki with producer Tim Palmer and was mixed in California.
H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo recently told MTV.com that "Venus Doom" is "going to be a lot heavier than anything we've done before — that's the whole idea. It's like we're mixing MY BLOODY VALENTINE's 'Loveless' with METALLICA's 'Master of Puppets'. ... There won't be as much ear candy on this one. There are a lot of riffs, and it's more guitar-oriented than keyboard-driven. Really, we just wanted to rock our own socks off.
"We wanted to make a really rockin' album — one that would explode your speakers," he added. "But we also wanted to maintain the melancholy aspects of love and loss in the lyrics and then have the really sweet vocals amidst this storm of guitars.
"Lyrically, it's about me losing a relationship and then actually regaining it, and losing my sanity and regaining it," Valo continued. "As you grow up, life gets more and more complex, even though when you're a kid you think things are going to get easier. It's like a f---ing puzzle that just keeps on having more and more pieces to it. It's very personal, this album. It's like me getting rid of my demons and putting the pain in the music. It's cathartic, and it's about cleansing yourself and trying to have the courage to take that one step further." 1

ARCH ENEMY Guitarist Says New Album Will Have 'More Riffs, More Melodies'ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott recently spoke to Decibel magazine about the recording process for the group's follow-up to 2005's "Doomsday Machine", due later in the year via Century Media Records.
Vocalist Angela Gossow has become one of the preeminent screamers in metal, and according to Amott, she intends to bring more of her formidable live present to the band's seventh album. "She's been working a lot on her voice and she's got some new deranged witch vocals; she's got some really intense stuff for the new album," Amott says. "On the last album, she double-tracked everything, but this time she wants to stay with the one single voice, and I think more of her personality will probably come out in the vocals."
The album has ARCH ENEMY reuniting with Fredrik Nordström, who last worked with the band on 2001's "Wages of Sin". "Fredrik produced that record and I think the material we have is a little bit more in that vein," Amott says. "It's more intense than what we've seen on the last couple of albums. We went back a little bit to what we did on 'Burning Bridges' and 'Wages of Sin', with more riffs, more melodies, a bit more stuff going on, more action-packed." 2

NIGHTWISH: New Single 'Eva' In Plagiarism InvestigationAccording to Finland's MTV3, the new NIGHTWISH single "Eva" is currently under investigation by Teosto, the Finnish RIAA equivalent whose task it is to promote the rights of composers, lyricists, arrangers and music publishers, and to strengthen the diversity of Finnish composition. The chorus of the song is allegedly very similar to a track called "Whirlpool" by Jukka Reinivuo, a relatively unknown Finnish artist. In fact, the similarities are so great that allegations of plagiarism have already been thrown around.
NIGHTWISH keyboardist and composer Tuomas Holopainen has denied the accusation, saying that he just heard about this today (May 30) and that he has never heard the song or the artist in question. Holopainen went on to add that he was interested in hearing the track first before commenting further.
