According to an article in the December 2006 issue of Holland's Aardschok magazine, ANNIHILATOR guitarist Jeff Waters and German hard rock singer Doro Pesch make guest appearances on the new AFTER FOREVER album, tentatively titled "Energized", due on March 23, 2007 via Nuclear Blast Records. Waters reportedly makes an appearance in the song "De-Energized" while Pesch can be heard dueting with AFTER FOREVER vocalist Floor Jansen on one of the other cuts on the album.

AFTER FOREVER's last album was "Remagine", which came out in 2005. The follow-up to 2004's "Invisible Circles" was recorded at Excess studio in Rotterdam, Holland and was mixed by Sascha Paeth and Philip Colodetti at the Gate studio in Wolfsburg, Germany.

AFTER FOREVER's former record label, Transmission Records, recently issued a two-disc compilation album containing the best songs from the band's first ten years of existence, plus previously unreleased material, non-album tracks, alternate takes, rarities and previously unreleased remixed versions. The set, which includes collaborations with such guest musicians as Sharon den Adel (WITHIN TEMPTATION), Arjen Lucassen and Damian Wilson (AYREON) and Marco Hietala (NIGHTWISH), entered the Dutch national album chart at position No. 69 upon its release in June.

Released this past June via Black Mark Records, "In Memory of Quorthon" contains three CDs, one DVD, a book and a poster. Börje "Boss" Forsberg — owner of Black Mark Records and father of late BATHORY mainman Thomas "Quorthon" Forsberg — had previously stated that the package would contain "Quorthon's and BATHORY's complete musical history."

Quorthon was found dead in his apartment in Stockholm, Sweden on June 7, 2004. The 39-year-old, widely considered to be one of black metal's founding fathers, reportedly died of heart failure.

Norwegian black metallers CREST OF DARKNESS have finished recording their fifth full-length album, "Give Us the Power to Do Your Evil", with producer Giuseppe Orlando (NOVEMBRE) at the Outer Sound Studios in Rome, Italy. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Your Demons", "Revenge Complete" and "Death and Pleasure". An early 2007 release via My Kingdom Music is expected.

Commented CREST OF DARKNESS bassist/vocalist Ingar Amlien: "I'm very happy with the recordings! We had to work very fast while we had only two weeks in the studio, but thanks to Giuseppe Orlando we made it!! It was a pleasure to work with him! I know that all the bandmembers did a great job, but without a good producer I don't believe we could have done this. Most of all I'm very happy because it's sounding very 'honest.' It's not perfect, but that was not what I wanted. This is as close as you can come to the heart of CREST OF DARKNESS."

CREST OF DARKNESS recently announced that it has parted ways with guitarist Akke due to "personal reasons" and has replaced him with Rebo from Amlien's hometown of Gjøvik.

CREST OF DARKNESS' fourth album, "Evil Knows Evil", was released in early 2004 through My Kingdom Music. The follow-up to 2000's "Project Regenration" was recorded at MLP Studio in Gjvik, Norway with co-producer/engineer Nils H. Mhlum. Mastering took place at Outer Sound with Giuseppe Orlando.

Finnish horror metallers DOMINATION BLACK have uploaded the new songs "Phantom Light", "What Lies Beneath" and "Scavenger of Evil" on their Myspace. The tracks come off the group's second album, "Dark Legacy", which was released in Scandinavia on November 15 via Finland's Poison Arrow Records (the rest of the world will receive the CD in January 2007).

DOWNLORD, the Danish death metal band featuring ex-BOLT THROWER/BENEDICTION vocalist Dave Ingram and former members of INIQUITY, DAEMON, and SUPERFICIAL, have released 30-second clips of the final mastered versions of each track off their debut album, "Random Dictionary of the Damned", due out January 30 on Open Grave Records. VOIVOD's video for the "Katorz" (2006) track "The Getaway" has been posted online at YouTube. The clip was created by editing together footage from the album's recording session and the band's 2003 U.S. tour. Currently, the band is working on a clip for "Polaroids" and will follow with a video for "The X-Stream". VOIVOD is also finalizing plans to re-release their early back catalog in 2007 on The End Records. Drummer Michel "Away" Langevin said the band will start with 1986's "Rrröööaaarrr", the following year's "Killing Technology" and '88's "Dimension Hatröss". He said each LP will be remastered and upped with a bonus DVD.

This winter VOIVOD will begin pre-production on the follow-up to "Katorz".

Sweden's SCAR SYMMETRY has issued the following update:

Finnish metallers PAIN CONFESSOR has issued the following update:

"Each album has had a song added within the last week before entering studio, 'Turmoil' had 'Just Names Remain', 'Fearrage' had 'DNA of a God'. This Monday we patched up our latest and last addition to the album's tracklist: 'The Harvest'.

"We enter Fantom studio this Friday [Dec. 15] to begin recording 'Purgatory of the Second Sun'. They say third album is the hardest milestone for a band. It will be a very intense two months before this album will be ready for release and we will focus our hearts and minds into making this third album the killer of the Third Album Syndrome."

German power thrashers SYMPHORCE have finished recording their highly anticipated new album, "Become Death", at the House Of Music Studios in Winterbach (near Stuttgart), Germany with producer Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69). Mastering duties will be handled by Achim Köhler (BRAINSTORM).

STRATOVARIUS frontman Timo Kotipelto's video for the track "Sleep Well" has been posted online at YourTube.

Commented Kotipelto: "The song will be on a Finnish movie 'Vares 2' which will have its premiere January 12th, 2007. "Sleep Well" is expected to appear on Kotipelto's third solo album, tentatively due in early 2007 via his own label, High and Loud Records. The CD was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland and was mixed by Mikko Karmila.

Dutch female-fronted symphonic metallers EPICA have issued the following update:

EPICA's previously announced live DVD, which was filmed on May 4, 2006 at Paradiso in Amsterdam, Holland, has been delayed until next year, according to a posting on the group's official web site. The band's latest album, "Consign to Oblivion", was recorded in early 2005 and features a guest contribution from KAMELOT vocalist Roy Khan.

A video clip of American/Norwegian melodic metallers KAMELOT performing the song "When the Lights are Down" on February 11, 2006 at the historic Rockefeller venue in Oslo, Norway has been posted online at YouTube. The footage comes off the group's first-ever DVD, "One Cold Winter's Night", which entered the Swedish Music Video chart at position No. 8. KAMELOT enlisted renowned film and video director Patric Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES) to chronicle the night's events. Bringing with him from Gothenberg, Sweden, Patric had a large crew of professionals and equipment, including 18 cameras, that would be used in and around the concert grounds.

The title for the band's first DVD to date (based on an earlier KAMELOT song title) was chosen long before the actual shoot. Ironically this winter turned out to be one of the longest and coldest in the country's history, with enormous amounts of snow and numerous chaos-causing blizzards.

Regarding the band's decision to record a cover of ALICE COOPER's "He's Back (The Man behind the Mask)", ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET vocalist Johan Lindstrand (ex-THE CROWN) previously said, "It's a song which we all can relate to in one way or another. We were young and it was in the middle of the '80s. 'Friday the 13th Part 6 - Jason Lives' [was] circulating in the underground community 'cause Sweden had huge problems with censorship. We had to find it in the black market and since we first saw this slasher, this song really got stuck in our heads and I guess the only way to get it out is to play the god damn song. It will be heavy!"

As previously reported, ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET will embark on a two-week European tour, dubbed "The X-Mass Mayhem Tour", in late December/early January.

ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET released a new single, "Christmas for the Lobotomizer", on November 17 via Nuclear Blast. In addition to the title cut, the single contains the songs "Devil on the Red Carpet", "Hell is for Heroes" and "Bulldozer Frenzy", all recorded live at this year's Summer Breeze festival in Germany.

Commented Lindstrand: "The cool thing with this is that it will be released on a limited edition of 500 copies and you will only be able to buy it from the Nuclear Blast mailorder, so you must act fast and hard if you want a copy," Lindstrand previously said. Switzerland's SAMAEL has finished recording its new album, tentatively due in early 2007. The band completed a "rough mix" of three songs at the end of November and is currently the recording to procure a new record deal. The final mix is expected to take place early next year.

SPV/Steamhammer has set a March 5, 2007 European release date for the new album from British metal veterans SAXON, entitled "The Inner Sanctum". The label will also release SAXON's new double live DVD, entitled "To Hell and Back Again". No further details are currently available.

In a recent posting on the band's official web site, SAXON frontman Biff Byford stated about the upcoming CD, "On the next album we're are trying to make a massive affort to target England to bring the profile back up and we have been approached to make a documentary as part of this. It is not a reality show. The [secret] concert in Lincoln [which was held on Oct. 27, 2006] was part of the documentary. There will be many other things happening."

Swedish death/black metallers IN AETERNUM have completed work on a new mini-CD, entitled "Curse of Devastation", at Abyss Studios with producer Tommy Tägtgren. An early 2007 release via Pulverised Records is expected. According to the band, the new songs are "in the classic IN AETERNUM style . . . The rough solo parts sounds really cool, a bit like old-style MORBID ANGEL solos. The new guitar player Erik Kumpulainen is really giving his best while bending those insane tunes."

IN AETERNUM recently parted ways with Agonia Records. The group earlier in the year announced the addition of Kumpulainen and bassist Claes Ramberg to the band's ranks.

IN AETERNUM's fourth album, "Dawn of a New Aeon", was released last year via Agonia.

German gothic metallers EVEREVE have posted the following update at their official web site:

"Having decided to work on a new EVEREVE album and recording it sometime in 2007 has triggered quite a wave of enthusiasm in their enviroment and EVEREVE would like to share the news about that decision with you. The first couple of sessions of spontaneous playing and working on some first ideas really has the guys psyched up big time and they are strongly motivated about getting down to work!! EVEREVE's latest album, "Tried & Failed", was released in the summer of 2005. It was recorded at the Gerassi Park Studio with longtime producer Gerhard Magin.

Season of Mist has announced the signing of Dutch gothic metal act ASRAI. The group's third full-length album is scheduled for a late spring release and will be followed by a European tour.

Commented the band: "After [2004's] 'Touch in the Dark' [Transmission Records], new songs were to be released and a new path to be explored to let loose our next album. Travelling through different seasons, the best was the misty one. Season of Mist appeared and the road became clear to us all. We are looking forward to combine both our visions. We can't wait to say; Season of Mist 'till death do us part."

ASRAI's second CD, "Touch in the Dark", was recorded in Holland (Excess Studio) and Germany (Beautiful Lake Studio) with producer Roman Schoensee. Mixing duties were handled by Sascha Paeth.

Norwegian black metallers MAYHEM last week finished recording their new album, entitled "Ordo Ab Chao".

Commented guitarist Blasphemer (a.k.a. Rune Erickson): "The sound is raw and powerful, and listening to it, it reminds me of the 'Wolf's Lair Abyss' era, only more varied and more philosophical. The album also contains the most aggressive songs in the MAYHEM history as well as the most wicked and darkest."

"Ordo Ab Chao" is tentatively scheduled for an April 2007 release and will come in very exclusive packaging. The upcoming CD will mark the band's first release since 1993 with vocalist Attila Csihar back behind the microphone.

Csihar rejoined MAYHEM in November 2004 as the replacement for departed singer Maniac (real name Sven Erik Kristiansen).

MAYHEM's last studio album, "Chimera", entered the Norwegian album chart at position No. 28 upon its release in March 2004.

NORTHER's video for the new song "Frozen Angel" has been posted online at this location (MPG file, 41 MB). The track is featured on the soundtrack to the new Finnish film "V2: Jäätynyt Enkeli", which is being released in Finland on January 5 via King Foo Entertainment. Swedish melodic death metal band WITHIN Y has parted ways with drummer Thim Blom (ex-GARDENIAN).
