VISIONS OF ATLANTIS: New Album Title, Cover Artwork RevealedAustrian/American "epic metal" band VISIONS OF ATLANTIS has set "Trinity" as the title of its third album, tentatively due in March 2007 via Napalm Records. The CD's cover artwork was created by Anthony Clarkson, who has previously worked with BLIND GUARDIAN, HYPOCRISY and EXODUS, among others. "The band felt he could capture the essence of the new phase of the band, which he did beautifully," the group wrote in an online update.
With regards to the album title, the band said, "Trinity stands for many things. For one, it is the third album (most obvious). There are also three new members, and three new influences in the music making. The band all agreed in June that would be the title and thus, worked from there. [In addition] the album is due out in March 2007 (third month)."
On the subject of the band's musical approach on the new CD, the group wrote, "Expect something different from this music, heavier music, mature and more introspective lyrics, grandiose symphonic parts, yet still keeping the band roots for writing songs that are accessible and sing-a-long-able."
"Trinity" will mark VISIONS OF ATLANTIS' first release since the addition of professional soprano singer Melissa Ferlaak from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ferlaak graduated with a master's degree from New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts in 2003 for vocal performance and has worked in the operatic field, most recently as Musetta in "La Boheme", and has been singing with AESMA DAEVA.
As previously reported, VISIONS OF ATLANTIS has posted two video clips from the group's appearance at the the Metal Female Voices Fest 4 on October 21, 2006 at Oktoberhallen in Wieze, Belgium:
"Send Me a Light" ( video)
"State of Suspense" ( video)
VISIONS OF ATLANTIS released its last album, "Cast Away", in November 2004 through Napalm Records.

IN EXTREMO To Release 10-Year Anniversary Collection Next MonthGerman folk-metallers IN EXTREMO will release a 10-year anniversary album, entitled "Kein Blick Zurück" ("No Looking Back"), on December 8 via Universal Music in Germany. In addition to re-recordings of some of the band's "old and new hits with updated production" (including songs from the "Weckt Die Toten" record), the set will contain a bonus CD featuring cover versions of songs by SILBERMOND ("Die Gier"), GÖTZ ALSMANN ("Singapur"), KILLING JOKE, GRAVE DIGGER and the legendary German group OUGENWEIDE.
Based in Berlin, IN EXTREMO's musical style combines metal with medieval traditional songs, blending the sound of the standard rock/metal instruments with historical instruments (such as the bagpipes, harp, hurdy-gurdy and shawm). Versions of well-known traditional/medieval ballads make up the main part of their repertoire, but increasingly over the years, the band has also written its own material. Their own compositions are written in German, while the traditional songs are in a variety of languages, including (but not limited to) Spanish, English, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, French, Hebrew, Latin and medieval German.

PAIN OF SALVATION: New Album Cover Artwork, Track Listing RevealedSweden's PAIN OF SALVATION has posted the following update on its official web site:
"The long-awaited 'Scarsick' album is now done, and is expected to hit the stores late January 2007, just a few weeks before the European tour that will start mid-February. The album is (of course) a concept album, and clocks in at 67 minutes, consisting of the following tracks:
01. Scarsick
02. Spitfall
03. Cribcaged
04. America
05. Disco Queen
06. Kingdom of Loss
07. Mrs Modern Mother Mary
08. Idiocracy
09. Flame to the Moth
10. Enter Rain
"The cover artwork and track titles have already spawned a lot of discussions in forums and lists around the net regarding the possibility that 'Scarsick' might actually be 'The Perfect Element' part II in disguise. Interviews with the band will undoubtedly start to pop up in magazines and online the following months, so keep your eyes and ears open...
"Now that 'Scarsick' is finished, the band will focus on finding a new bass player. The first auditions are already scheduled for December, but the quest will be 'as long as it takes to find the right guy.' Applications have been pouring in from all around the world, despite the band's request for a bassist living in Sweden. Thus, focus will be on the 'domestic' applications. But this also means that the field is still open, in case you are hesitating.

CLAWFINGER: In Songwriting ModeFrontman Zak Tell of the Swedish rap/metal combo CLAWFINGER has issued the following update on the writing/ recording sessions for the group's new studio album:
"So Bård [Torstensen, guitar] is in town since Sunday evening [Nov. 19] and we've started another round of writing and recording. So far, so good, so what, as MEGADETH entitled one of their albums many years ago.
"Anyway, one more demo track is completed. Hooray. There is hope and not only that, it so happens to be a positive little fucker of a song with a 'pop' chorus and all just to make things even more fun. We've spent today [Wednesday, Nov. 22] working on a calm little moody track. I'm not quite sure how much we've actually managed to do on it or change it for the better, but small babysteps are sometimes required in order to find the way. We'll see what happens! We're having a short break right now and then I think we're going to pick out a new track to work on. I have no idea which one will end up being molested by us bastards, but they've all got to be beaten up, pushed around and fucked with until they sound good, so it doesn't really matter, the work continues! It's fun at times, a fucking pain in the ass at others and occassionally the best fucking job in the entire world, all depending on the results obviously. Yeah, I know I should shut my negative fucking mouth and just pretend it's superdooper happy positive creative fun all the time, but I try not to lie, so I won't!
"Well, on that note I'm signing off. As always I'll try and keep you posted. Remember — patience is a virtue, so hang in there and learn how to master your patience. You're going to need a lot of it!"
CLAWFINGER's latest album, entitled "Hate Yourself with Style", was released in the U.S. in February via Nuclear Blast Records.

DARK TRANQUILLITY Finishes Recording New AlbumVocalist Mikael Stanne of the Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY has issued the following update:
"I can't believe it... We made it! It's done and there is nothing I can do about it.
"Just got back from the studio where everything is now shipped off to Denmark where Tue Madsen will perform his magicky magic on the things we've been working on these last 7 weeks. I just finished the last vocal lines a couple of days ago and it feels sweet.
"As always with recordings, there is alot of stress and self-doubt, but being in a more than familiar environment in Martin's [Henriksson, guitar] studio (Rogue) has helped tremendously. The recordings have not only been smooth and focused but the overall feeling that we are creating something amazing has really driven us through this. It turned out so different and diverse that the hardest thing for me now is to find a suitable title for the whole thing. How can I sum up in a title something that is everything and nothing, grounded and out there, intorvert and extra-terrestial all at the same time?
"Welll, keep watching this space and I will let you know soon enough.
"Right now I am just so glad it's done. Anders [Jivarp, drums] did a fantastic job grinding and beating (off) in the studio, Micke [Michael Nicklasson] has delivered some really crushing bass, Martin and Niklas [Sundin, guitar] have really outdone themselves with great riffs and truly outstanding solos and Martin B [Brändström, electronics] has poured a lot of misery and anxiety into his soundscapes. Now all we do is wait for the mix, and this being our first time mixing out of house so to speak we are really excited to hear what the hell we've been up to!"
