MACHINE HEAD Frontman ROBB FLYNN Says New Song 'Do Or Die' Is 'Vicious'

MACHINE HEAD Frontman ROBB FLYNN Says New Song 'Do Or Die' Is 'Vicious'

Robb Flynn spoke to Metal Hammer magazine about MACHINE HEAD's new song "Do Or Die", the first piece of music recorded after the band's split with drummer Dave McClain and guitarist Phil Demmel.

"I wrote the music for 'Do Or Die' back in August, before everything happened," the guitarist/vocalist recalled. "Two days after that announcement on Facebook Live, I was back in the studio and working on ideas and lyrics. I guess I was really just pissed off that day. After all the haters and all the negativity, all the bullshit. It's vicious!

"I know a lot of our popular songs are very metaphorical, like 'Now We Die' and 'Halo', and I love that. I love writing a violent poetry, if you will. But other times I just gotta get shit off my chest. Like Jamey Jasta always says, 'It's ignorant-ass Oakland metal!' [Laughs]"

Flynn went on to say that "there were definitely emotional moments" on MACHINE HEAD's final tour with Demmel and McClain, which concluded in November. "I tried to keep it classy," he said. "Every night on that tour, I got people to chant the guys' names in recognition of their contributions, and that's the way it should be."

Robb also talked about the tsunami of negativity he faced following the release of last year's "Catharsis" album, which Demmel has gone on record as saying that he "hated."

"I was America's punching bag for nine months, from when the first song off 'Catharsis' dropped," he recalled. "I couldn't put up a single fucking post without hundreds of trolls raging at me. Being the leader of the band can be lonely. When things aren't necessarily received well, it's even lonelier."

Flynn downplayed the perception that "Catharsis" was a divisive album, saying: "I'm proud as fuck of that record. I knew it was going to piss people off. Somehow it's become the mythology of 'Catharsis' [that] it was a very divisive record. Every fucking article I read! Yeah, it was divisive to white supremacist and racist pieces of shit! It was divisive to the fucking alt-right. But our fans loved it — people love that fucking record. A bunch of asshole trolls got their fucking panties in a bunch about it. Fuck 'em!"

This fall, MACHINE HEAD will embark on the "Burn My Eyes" 25th-anniversary tour. The shows will see MACHINE HEAD's original drummer Chris Kontos and guitarist Logan Mader join the band onstage again to play the group's classic 1994 debut album in full.

Robb has yet to announce permanent replacements for Demmel and McClain, telling Metal Hammer: "Look, I love being in a band. I love having input from people and I love creating with people. I feel like one of my strengths is taking a bunch of good ideas and turning them into one great idea. When it comes to future new members… I don't know, man... I just got a divorce. I'm not ready to get married again. [Laughs] I'm auditioning new guys. I'm jammin' with my old guys. I'm writing new music. I'm recording new songs. I'm working on new stuff. I'm staying busy, staying focused, staying positive, and that's all I can do. Enjoy the fucking moment."

METALLICA: Pro-Shot Footage Of 'Spit Out The Bone' Performance From Paris

METALLICA: Pro-Shot Footage Of 'Spit Out The Bone' Performance From Paris

Professionally filmed video footage of METALLICA performing the song "Spit Out The Bone" on May 12 at Stade De France in Paris, France can be seen below.

METALLICA played "Spit Out The Bone" live for the first time ever in October 2017 at The O2 Arena in London, England. The track is taken from METALLICA's latest album, "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct", which came out in November 2016. Frontman James Hetfield told Colombian radio station Radioacktiva that the songtitle was inspired by how people are connected to each other through mobile devices and how everyone is becoming more dependent on technology. "[It] is getting rid of the human flesh part," he said. "And machinery is so much more efficient. And ourselves as people, [we're] very… I don't know… We want things quicker, we want the convenience of technology, but at what point is convenience leaning into dependency, and we need it, or else we don't know what to do."

The original version of "Spit Out The Bone" was close to 10 minutes long before METALLICA realized it needed to be trimmed, making it leaner and thinner, more concise. Drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone: "That was just an adventure, man. I have versions of that song that are two to three minutes longer. We just kept going and going and going. That was also the first song where we went, 'Wait a minute. Is there too much of a good thing here?' And then we started peeling it back.

"It was one of those where you just keep going to different universes and different modes and areas because it was super fun," he continued. "It was like this journey. Old-school MERCYFUL FATE–type stuff was kind of the inspiration for that."

Hetfield spoke in more detail about the song's meaning during an interview with METALLICA's fan-club magazine So What!

"This is a little different, just the wonder and fear of, again, what's happening to man," he said. "Without future tripping too much, just the possibilities of 'Terminator', stuff like that, you know. We're wearing smart watches, things are getting closer and closer to just being in us.

"Why would I not have the Internet in my head all the time? Why do I have to worry with all these 'emotions' and stuff? Falling in love and getting your heart broken? That doesn't do anybody good. You know, the heart and blood? It's in the way of efficiency! We could be a much more efficient race if we just allow computers to help us.

"And yeah, they are helping us, but how far does that go? All of that craziness. So 'Spit Out the Bone' is that your bones aren't needed. They break!"

Hetfield reportedly lifted the title from legendary U.K. punk band GBH's 1982 track about the 1972 Andes flight disaster titled "Passenger On The Menu". James said: "Yeah, thank you, GBH, for the 'spit out the bone' line. I know their song was a little different. Their song was about the Donner Party and cannibalism."

METALLICA's "WorldWired" tour has played more than 130 shows across the world since its 2016 kick-off.

Last November, drummer Lars Ulrich told The Mercury News that the trek could last through early 2020.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE Guitarist Isn't Interested In Celebrating 15th Anniversary Of 'The End Of Heartache' Album

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE Guitarist Isn't Interested In Celebrating 15th Anniversary Of 'The End Of Heartache' Album

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist and producer Adam Dutkiewicz has told Kerrang! magazine that he isn't interested in doing anything to celebrate the 15th anniversary of band's breakthrough album, 2004's "The End Of Heartache".

"It's kind of just a flash in the band, and then we move on for the next thing," Adam said. "We're in the middle of trying to set up the new record. It's funny, our bassist, Mike [D'Antonio], was, like, 'Hey, should we be thinking about doing a 15th-anniversary tour for this record?' and I was, like, 'No! We should be thinking about this new record!' We shouldn't live in the past, y'know? I feel like there's been too much of that recently. Maybe more people should focus on writing more material, and not just trying to rehash stuff, y'know? There's just too much of that!

"I'm happy that everyone agreed with me that it wasn't a good idea," he continued, "especially because we literally just finished our new record. So we have things to worry about."

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's third album, "The End Of Heartache" was the band's first release to feature lead vocalist Howard Jones and drummer Justin Foley.

The disc's title track was nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category at the 47th annual Grammy Awards.

The album was certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) in December 2007 for sales in excess of a half million copies in the United States.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's next album will be released in the fall via Metal Blade Records in the U.S. and Sony Music Entertainment in the rest of the world. The follow-up to 2016's "Incarnate" will mark the Massachusetts metallers' third full-length effort since the return of singer Jesse Leach, who rejoined the group in 2012.

Leach appeared on KILLSWITCH's self-titled debut and sophomore album, "Alive Or Just Breathing", before exiting the band. Jones took over on vocals for "The End Of Heartache", "As Daylight Dies" and the 2009 self-titled set before being dismissed from the group seven years ago.

RONNIE JAMES DIO Hologram 'Looks And Feels Real'

RONNIE JAMES DIO Hologram 'Looks And Feels Real'

Jeff Pezzuti, CEO of hologram production company Eyellusion, which created the Ronnie James Dio hologram, has told News-Press that a digital version of Dio is the next best thing for fans who have never seen Ronnie live.

"It's a real metal show," Pezzuti said. "Ronnie looks real. … And it feels real. It definitely feels real."

"You have to suspend your disbelief," he added. "Everybody knows he’s not there. We wish he was, but he's not."

Dio's former bandmate Simon Wright, who is part of the DIO DISCIPLES lineup which will back the hologram, said the tour is a way to celebrate Dio and his music.

"You gotta take it for what it is," Wright said. "We're not trying to resurrect the dead here. It's not voodoo. It's entertainment. It's a show.

"[Ronnie is] not here anymore," the drummer added. "If he was, we wouldn't be doing all this crap. [But] it's great to hear his voice again."

Ronnie's widow and longtime manager, Wendy Dio, who is a member of the Eyellusion team, said that she promised Ronnie before he passed away that she would do everything she could to keep his legend alive. "He was a special person," she said. "Everybody loved him. He loved his fans. His fans were the most important people to him."

The legendary heavy metal singer died in 2010 at the age of 67 from stomach cancer. His hologram made its debut at the Wacken Open Air festival in August 2016 in front of more than 75,000 fans.

The Dio hologram production uses audio of Ronnie's live performances from throughout his career, with the DIO DISCIPLES band playing live, consisting of Wright on drums, Craig Goldy on guitar, and Scott Warren on keyboards, along with Bjorn Englen on bass. Also appearing with them are former JUDAS PRIEST singer Tim "Ripper" Owens and ex-LYNCH MOB frontman Oni Logan.

After the tour's initial seven-date run was completed in December 2017, Ronnie's hologram underwent some changes before the launch of the next leg of the "Dio Returns" world tour, which kicks off on May 31 in Fort Myers.

ZAKK WYLDE's ZAKK SABBATH To Recreate BLACK SABBATH's Entire Debut Album

ZAKK WYLDE's ZAKK SABBATH To Recreate BLACK SABBATH's Entire Debut Album

Vertigo Records issued the debut album by BLACK SABBATH on Friday, February 13,1970, and the world was never the same. Legendarily recorded in a single day in October 1969, the earth-moving self-titled set closed the book on hippie optimism with its dark magic and ushered in a brand-new genre, setting the metal template for decades to come.

Exactly 50 years to the date later, ZAKK SABBATH, the all-star BLACK SABBATH cover band featuring guitarist/vocalist Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE), will celebrate the first chapter in the SABBATH catalog with a reverently rendered tribute, simply titled "Vertigo". ZAKK SABBATH's aim is to faithfully re-record the album in the spirit of the original recordings: live in a fully analog studio, direct to two-inch tape in a single 24-hour period. A film crew will document the process, culminating in a single album and DVD release limited to just 500 copies and delivered to purchasers on February 13, 2020.

ZAKK SABBATH's "Vertigo" will never be available commercially or digitally in any other format beyond these initial 500, which will be delivered in a single package containing a vinyl LP, CD, digital download code, and DVD.

Says ZAKK SABBATH: "We've partnered with Magnetic Eye Records, a cornerstone of the industry strongly rooted in the very sub-genre spawned by SABBATH, to ensure maximum quality. We're asking you to join us in our continued celebration of the greatest heavy metal band of all time and the record that started it all! Take this journey with us through this project and be among the 500 faithful to receive the total doom-filled package."

The pre-order for ZAKK SABBATH's "Vertigo" was sold out within two hours after it was made available on Tuesday.

Zakk commented: "Thanks to everyone that pre-ordered. We will keep you updated on the progress of the album and documentary along the way."

ZAKK SABBATH also features bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson and drummer Joey Castillo.

Zakk told the Chicago Sun-Times about performing SABBATH's classic material: "The music that you listen to in your youth, you carry with you the rest of your life. So it feels like there’s no difference playing on stage now from when we were 15 years old playing these same songs in our friends' kitchens or keg parties in the backyard."

SKID ROW's RACHEL BOLAN Is 'Blown Away By Some Of The Stuff' On Band's New Album

SKID ROW's RACHEL BOLAN Is 'Blown Away By Some Of The Stuff' On Band's New Album

SKID ROW bassist Rachel Bolan spoke with Andy Hall of the Des Moines, Iowa radio station Lazer 103.3 about the band's upcoming final chapter of the "United World Rebellion" trilogy, which will tentatively be released later this year. The disc was recorded at a Nashville, Tennessee studio with producer Michael Wagener, who also helmed the group's 1989 self-titled debut and 1991's "Slave To The Grind".

SKID ROW's new disc will mark its first release with South African-born, British-based vocalist ZP Theart (DRAGONFORCE, TANK, I AM I), who joined the band in 2016 following the departure of Tony Harnell (TNT, STARBREAKER).

Said Bolan (hear audio below): "We've been in the studio since the beginning of February, in between shows and all that. We've been recording with Michael Wagener, who did our first two records and also did our fifth. And it's just been great. It's the first record that ZP will be on, and just watching him do his thing is fascinating, 'cause we'd never worked with him in a recording situation before. And he has his way of doing things, which really is cohesive to the way we do things. The stuff that's coming out, I'm really proud of it. We're all really proud of it. I'm actually blown away by some of the stuff. We can't wait to get this out there."

Regarding the decision to make SKID ROW's next release a full-length effort, Bolan said: "We did the EP thing, and it was a lot less pressure, but we were, like, 'You know what? Let's put the pressure back on ourselves. Let's do a whole record. We have a new singer.' Well, he's not new anymore — he's been in the band four years. 'But let's just do this and just go balls out.' So that's exactly what we're doing."

As for a possible release date for SKID ROW's new LP, Bolan said: "We're hoping this year. The landscape of this business has changed so much, as you know, from when our first album came out that there's really no rush. The only rush is… people that listen to it, we wanna get it to them as soon as possible, but we also want it to be absolutely, one hundred percent what we want too. So that's where we're at right now."

SKID ROW's new album, which will be made available through Australia's Golden Robot Records, will feature collaborations with several outside songwriters, including Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR) and Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of HALESTORM, a group that covered the title track of "Slave To The Grind" on its "ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP" in 2011. SKID ROW also worked with songwriter-for-hire Marti Frederiksen, who has previously collaborated with AEROSMITH, DEF LEPPARD, Jonny Lang and Sheryl Crow.

SKID ROW will perform at a number of high-profile European festivals in 2019, including Germany's Bang Your Head!!!, the U.K.'s Download, Sweden Rock Festival and Norway Rock '19.

This past January, Rhino released a 30th-anniversary remastered digital reissue of SKID ROW's quintuple-platinum 1989 debut album, which featured the hits "Youth Gone Wild", "18 & Life" and "I Remember You". The reissue also includes "Forever", a b-side recorded during the sessions for the album that previously appeared on the 1998 greatest-hits compilation "40 Seasons: The Best Of Skid Row", and a 10-track live performance recorded on April 26, 1989 at the Marquee in Westminster, California.

SKID ROW 2019 is:

ZP Theart - vocals

Rachel Bolan - bass

Dave "Snake" Sabo - guitar

Scotti Hill - guitars

Rob Hammersmith - drums

PAPA ROACH To Celebrate 20th Anniversary Of 'Infest' Album In 2020

PAPA ROACH To Celebrate 20th Anniversary Of 'Infest' Album In 2020

Jacoby Shaddix has confirmed that PAPA ROACH will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band's breakthrough album, "Infest", next year.

The band's second full-length record and first major label release, "Infest" peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified triple platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) for sales in excess of three million copies in the U.S. alone.

While speaking to Matt Bingham, program director of Saginaw, Michigan's Z93 radio station, at this past weekend's Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio, Jacoby said that plans are afoot for PAPA ROACH to mark the LP's two-decade milestone.

"2020, we're going to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of our album 'Infest'," the singer said (hear audio below). "And so, April 25th, 2020, we will be having a celebration."

Shaddix also spoke about the enduring popularity of "Infest"'s rap-rock anthem "Last Resort", which recently passed 100 million views on YouTube.

"Music can be a bright spot to people — it can be a source of strength; it can be a source of hope to people," he said. "And PAPA ROACH has been a source of strength and hope to people out there.

"Our first single, 'Last Resort', was about… One of my best friends, he tried to kill himself," he continued. "We lived in a house together. I'm 17 years old, and my best friend tried to kill himself. And it was a traumatic experience. I sing the song from a first-person point of view just to make it… this is how I write music. It's just crazy how many people have used that song as a source of strength.

"This music is purpose-driven, and I know that there's a reason why I'm here on this planet creating music and creating art with my brothers in PAPA ROACH."

Produced and mixed by Jay Baumgardner, "Infest" featured Shaddix on lead vocals, Jerry Horton on guitars and backing vocals, Tobin Esperance on bass and Dave Buckner on drums. Guest artists on the disc included DJ A.M., Aimee Echo and Rodney Duke.

PAPA ROACH's latest album, "Who Do You Trust?", arrived in January via Eleven Seven.

SCORPIONS Guitarist MATTHIAS JABS On First Live Show Of 2019 - "We Have To Play, And Like To Play, The Hits"

SCORPIONS Guitarist MATTHIAS JABS On First Live Show Of 2019 - "We Have To Play, And Like To Play, The Hits"

Rock legends, Scorpions, will perform their first live show of 2019, on Friday, June 14 at Rock The Coast 2019 festival in Málaga, Spain. MusicRadar caught up with guitarist Matthias Jabs ahead of the show.

“We have to play, and like to play, the hits,” answers Matthias, when asked what to expect from Scorpions’ first show of 2019.

His band simply wouldn’t be able to leave the stage without fans hearing hits like "Rock You Like A Hurricane", "Still Loving You" and "Blackout", he reasons. There lies one of the German group’s biggest challenges - distilling their prolific 54-year career into a tight two hours of rock ’n’ roll mastery.

“Those favourites make up half the setlist right there,” he continues. “On our last tour, we edited together a '70s medley and currently we’re working on the possibility of an '80s medley. Fans want to hear songs from every era, and the show is only two hours, so we try to combine as much as we can.

“It will be our first performance since last November in Shanghai. We’ve been on a writing break since then. It’s the longest break we’ve had from the stage in a very long while, maybe even in our career. I always feel excited about that first show. We won’t be rusty, though... don’t you worry!”

SANTA CRUZ Unveils New Single 'Tell Me Why'; 'Katharsis' Album Due In September

SANTA CRUZ Unveils New Single 'Tell Me Why'; 'Katharsis' Album Due In September

Finnish hard rock quartet SANTA CRUZ will release its fourth album, "Katharsis", this fall.

The second single from the disc — the infectious, riff-driven melodic rock anthem "Tell Me Why" — can be streamed below.

Says frontman Archie Cruz: "'Tell Me Why' was conceived during the hot summer of 2018 in Finland and perfected at the Hideout studios in Vegas later that year. It has a big, sexy riff and a larger-than-life chorus that's sure to rock y'all's socks off. Dig it!"

"Tell Me Why" and the recently released song "Changing Of Seasons" both feature prominently on "Katharsis", which was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Kane Churko (PAPA ROACH, OZZY OSBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH). More information about the new record will be unveiled in the weeks ahead.

Next weekend, SANTA CRUZ will kick off the "Katharsis" world tour in Tallinn, Estonia, where the group will support rock icons BON JOVI at the 75,000-capacity Song Festival Grounds. The following week, the band's new lineup of founding guitarist/vocalist Archie Cruz, lead guitarist Pav Cruz, bassist Ero Cruz and drummer Toxy Cruz will perform live for the first time in their home country of Finland, when they play the country's largest annual rock festival, Rockfest, alongside the likes of KISS, DEF LEPPARD and IN FLAMES.

Following some additional high-profile European performances later in the summer (including German shows with STEEL PANTHER and WHITESNAKE), SANTA CRUZ will once again set their sights on America. On August 27, the band will headline Hollywood's Viper Room, the famed venue where actor River Phoenix overdosed in 1995. (As longtime fans are aware, "Bad Blood Rising" featured a song named after Phoenix.)

In late September, SANTA CRUZ will then join the likes of GUNS N' ROSES, DISTURBED and GODSMACK at the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky. Two weeks later, the group will perform alongside SLIPKNOT, TOOL, ROB ZOMBIE and others at Aftershock 2019, California's largest annual rock festival. Additional American performances will be announced in the near future.

"Katharsis" marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the story of SANTA CRUZ, which made impressive waves on both sides of the Atlantic in the five-year period following the release of its acclaimed 2013 debut. In Europe, the group scored two Top 5 albums in its home country, supported the likes of AC/DC and delivered memorable performances at major events such as the U.K.'s Download festival. In America, meanwhile, the band appeared on the AXS TV program "Breaking Band", played notable gigs such as Rock On The Range and the inaugural Motörboat cruise and toured alongside I PREVAIL, THROUGH FIRE, FOZZY, AMARANTHE and SEBASTIAN BACH.

BLACK EARTH Feat. Original ARCH ENEMY Members: Video Of Otaru, Japan Concert

BLACK EARTH Feat. Original ARCH ENEMY Members: Video Of Otaru, Japan Concert

Fan-filmed video footage of BLACK EARTH — the project featuring former and current members of ARCH ENEMY — performing on May 19 at Goldstone in Otaru, Japan can be seen below.

BLACK EARTH recently released "Path Of The Immortal", a collection of remastered tracks from ARCH ENEMY's first three albums. The disc, which was made available exclusively in Japan on March 20, includes two brand new songs, "Burn On The Flame" and "Life Infernal", which were recorded at the end of 2018 at Sweden's Studio Fredman with producer Fredrik Nordström.

Speaking to Japan's "Masa Ito's Rock TV" in February, ARCH ENEMY guitarist and main songwriter Michael Amott explained how the new music came about. "Together with Trooper Entertainment, we've put together a compilation of our favorite tracks from the first, second and third album that featured these guys — with Johan [Liiva on vocals] and Chris [Amott on guitar] and everything," he said. "And we've put together a compilation album of that '90s material. It's been remastered here in Japan. I actually attended the mastering session last week, and it sounds incredible. It really brought the old tracks… it gave them a new life. And then we actually recorded two new songs in Sweden. So we've been quite busy with that."

He continued: "It's quite complicated getting everybody together to do that. But we wrote these two new songs. I wrote one with Chris, and then I wrote one myself. They're called 'Burn On The Flame' and 'Life Infernal' — two brand new tracks that are kind of in the style of what we used to do, I think. And they turned out really amazing too. We actually went back to Fredrik Nordström's studio, Fredman, where we made the first three records. So we worked with the original producer. And he mixed it, and it sounds really powerful — very cool."

According to Michael, the BLACK EARTH recording sessions turned out to be a "very, very strange" experience, "because we just picked it up where we left off. After about an hour or so, we were doing the same kind of jokes and the same kind of chemistry," he explained. "And the sounds as well. I was thinking maybe it was gonna sound very different. Also because of us — we all progress and change over the years, and develop. And also Fredrik, of course. He had a new studio now, with some different equipment. But actually, he just managed to get that old-school sound. And it was a lot of fun. Kind of a little bit nostalgia."

ARCH ENEMY recorded three albums with Liiva: "Black Earth" (1996), "Stigmata" (1998) and "Burning Bridges" (1999).

Liiva was replaced by German singer Angela Gossow as ARCH ENEMY's lead vocalist in 2000. Gossow exited the band in 2013 and was succeeded by former THE AGONIST frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz, while remaining as the group's manager.

Christopher Amott first left ARCH ENEMY in 2005, only to return to the group two years later. His second, and apparently final, departure came in March 2012.

BLACK EARTH completed its first Japanese tour in May 2016 and has just returned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Burning Bridges".

"When we did the tour in 2016, the reaction was incredible — we had so many sold-out shows, and [we got] very, very strong feedback and a lot of love from the Japanese audience," Michael told "Masa Ito's Rock TV". "So that was really an incredible time for us and a wonderful experience — one of the highlights of my career, I think. So we decided to come back and do it again three years later. And now we're doing it in more cities. So we're looking forward to visiting these places and bringing the music to the fans that normally maybe could not travel to Tokyo or to Osaka to see a show."

BLACK EARTH is:

Michael Amott - guitar

Christopher Amott - guitar

KORN Guitarist's 'Loud Krazy Love' Documentary Set For Digital/DVD Release In June

KORN Guitarist's 'Loud Krazy Love' Documentary Set For Digital/DVD Release In June

Award-winning documentary "Loud Krazy Love" is being made available for public viewing through three unique opportunities — select theatrical advance screenings happening now, a Father's Day Weekend Watch Party Event and the digital and DVD release on June 18. The trailer can be seen below.

Produced by I Am Second Media and Ditore Mayo Entertainment, "Loud Krazy Love" documents the remarkable and touching true story of two-time Grammy-winning artist Brian "Head" Welch and his daughter Jennea.

Billboard described "Loud Krazy Love" as "part rock doc, part faith testimonial, part family drama." It's a fearless coming-of-age story that grapples with faith, teen depression, the quest for identity and the hope of a father willing to do anything for the one he loves. The film explores the relationship between the Welches and how Jennea saved Brian's life, as he walked away from a $23 million record deal and overcame a crippling addiction to drugs to focus on becoming a good father.

It won "Best Feature Doc Audience Award" at the Dallas International Film Festival (beating out 35 other documentaries), was a Grand Jury nominee at the Nashville Film Festival and received critical acclaim from audiences following its premiere on Showtime.

"When I watch 'Loud Krazy Love', I'm amazed at where Jennea and I have been compared to where we are now," said Brian. "Our relationship was broken and strained before I made a conscious choice to change my habits and my life. Today, our relationship is stronger than ever. If all the pain and heartache we went through can help others, then it was all worth it."

"This film has resonated with so many different people because while Brian and Jennea have unconventional life circumstances as a rock 'n' roll family, the issues they faced are those with which all can relate," said John Humphrey, vice-president of I Am Second and producer of "Loud Krazy Love".

In addition to chronicling Brian and Jennea's journey, "Loud Krazy Love" also gives exclusive access of Brian on tour and at home, in-depth interviews with him, his family and his bandmates, and two decades worth of never-before-seen material from Brian and his multi-platinum-selling band KORN.

"Loud Krazy Love" is directed by first-time feature filmmakers Scott Mayo and Trey Hill and produced by Humphrey and Samuel Ditore of Ditore Mayo Entertainment.

"When we set out to make this film, it was with a desire to humanize and normalize what a real faith might actually look like," said Mayo. "Real life is messy and tumultuous and this film portrays that."

"Brian and Jennea's story is proof that there is hope for anyone," said Hill. "You don't have to hide from the shameful stuff in your life and you don't have to let it control you, either. You can overcome and experience true freedom."

SERPENT OF GNOSIS Feat. JOB FOR A COWBOY And THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER Members: 'Paroxysmal Dance' Video

SERPENT OF GNOSIS Feat. JOB FOR A COWBOY And THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER Members: 'Paroxysmal Dance' Video

The official music video for the song "Paroxysmal Dance" from the death/grind band SERPENT OF GNOSIS can be seen below. The track is taken from will the group'sdebut album, "As I Drink From The Infinite Well Of Inebriation", which will be released on June 14 via 1126 Records.

The project began with musicians Max Lavelle, Al Glassman and Darren Cesca playing in the band GORATORY. Inevitably, they each took different paths over the years. However, old friends have reunited and sparked a musical connection with SERPENT OF GNOSIS. Glassman and Cesca were writing the music in 2018 and ultimately turned to their former and current bandmates, who are in THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and JOB FOR A COWBOY, to help fill the gaps. After a unique recording process where the members individually tracked their parts from home, the album was mixed by drummer Darren Cesca in his own House Of Grind studio.

While some uber extreme forms of metal tend to rely on religious themes of horror and imagery of gore and evil, SERPENT OF GNOSIS took a route that hit a bit closer to home. The band explored concepts such as addiction and what that can do to both the human psyche and the body. "As I Drink From The Infinite Well Of Inebriation" is an album that provides a first-person perspective and tells its stories through the eyes of an individual dealing with severe and near-crippling drug addiction.

Davy stated about SERPENT OF GNOSIS: "We are a collection of small cavemen who enjoy fast and heavy things."

SERPENT OF GNOSIS is:

Al Glassman - Guitar

Tony Sannicandro - Guitar

Max Lavelle - Bass

Darren Cesca - Drums

Jonny Davy - Vocals

JUDAS PRIEST's RICHIE FAULKNER Fires Back At K.K. DOWNING: 'I Have Not Been Paid A Wage Since 2012'

JUDAS PRIEST's RICHIE FAULKNER Fires Back At K.K. DOWNING: 'I Have Not Been Paid A Wage Since 2012'

Richie Faulkner has fired back at K.K. Downing over the founding JUDAS PRIEST guitarist's comments about his position in the band.

Over the weekend, BLABBERMOUTH.NET published an interview Downing gave to Germany's Bleeding4metal.de in which K.K. said that it "seems wrong" that Faulkner and drummer Scott Travis "are not officially members of JUDAS PRIEST as they are on a wage."

Earlier today, Faulkner released a statement disputing Downing's comments, insisting that he hasn't been a salaried employee for the past seven years and slamming his predecessor's remarks as "an attempt to devalue my and Scott's position in the band."

Faulkner's statement follows in its entirety:

"Regarding a recent untruthful article, I'm not sure why anyone feels they have the right to openly discuss others' financial standings, true or otherwise. This seems to be intended as a swipe at the band and an attempt to devalue my and Scott's position in the band.

"For the record, I have not been paid a wage since 2012 and have always been given creative input in this band since day one.

"This band of brothers have been nothing but a family to me and both band and management have always stated and demonstrated they wanted a band member.

"It's an honor to serve in the best heavy metal band in the world and give 1000% to the fans around the globe that have supported this band for 50 years.

"It's a shame that someone I held in such high regard feels the need to take these low roads when I've done absolutely nothing but give my absolute all to a position he left of his own accord. It's both uninformed, unfounded, unnecessary and very unfortunate and disappointing.

"We've always stood firm to not get involved in Internet clickbait, but I felt this crossed a line for me personally and wanted to set these untruths straight myself."

Last year, Downing said that he felt like he was "being cloned" when he first found out he was being replaced by Faulkner.

Downing, who announced his retirement from PRIEST in April 2011 after nearly 42 years in the job, admitted to the "Appetite For Distortion" podcast that he was taken aback when he first saw his replacement.

"Richie, as far as I know, is a nice guy and obviously an excellent player," Downing said. "I was a bit disappointed when, basically… I think the idea was to replace me [with a lookalike], so I did feel as though I was kind of being cloned. But I'm not sure that was exactly fair to Richie. I mean, I could be off the mark here, but I think Richie had the right to bring himself to the stage with his own… portray his own image and ability to play the instrument the way that he does. But it is what it is."

He continued: "When Glenn [Tipton] retired from touring [last year], the same didn't happen — obviously, [Tipton's replacement] Andy [Sneap] doesn't look anything like Glenn; he doesn't wear the same clothes, the red pants, guitars or anything like that. So I don't really know what's going on. But it is what it is."

Despite his initial reservations about Richie's visual appearance, K.K. never questioned Faulkner's playing ability, saying: "I know Richie is predominantly a Les Paul guy and he's looked up to Zakk Wylde, Randy Rhoads, Michael Schenker and players like that. That's what he says. I don't recall me being cited as an influence on Richie when he was in his young days. But it is what it is.

"To my mind, JUDAS PRIEST is certainly bigger and more legendary than any individuals in the band," he added. "So PRIEST will always put on a good show, and, obviously, I like to think they have great songs and, obviously, you've got Rob [Halford] up there who's the voice of PRIEST and does incredibly well, certainly at this time in his life."

In a 2011 interview with the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, Halford stated about Faulkner's physical resemblance to a younger Downing: "People are saying, 'It's a clone. You've got some of K.K.'s DNA.' It's just the way it turned out. We made, like, a secret search When we knew K.K. was not gonna be making the tour, we did a lot of secret, kind of, searching for another player. And Richie just happened to be the guy. And he just happens to look a little bit of the K.K. image, you know?! I think it would be silly to say, 'We looked for a guitar player that looks like Ken.' What we want is a very good metal guitar player, and that's what Richie Faulkner is."

Last year, Downing — who is a founding member of the British heavy metal legends — released a statement in which he said that he was "shocked and stunned" that he wasn't invited to return to JUDAS PRIEST following Tipton's announcement that he would no longer be touring with the band due to his battle with Parkinson's disease.

Downing's autobiography, "Heavy Duty: Days And Nights In Judas Priest", was released last September via Da Capo Press.

K.K. DOWNING Says SCOTT TRAVIS And RICHIE FAULKNER Are Not Official Members Of JUDAS PRIEST: 'They Are On A Wage'

K.K. DOWNING Says SCOTT TRAVIS And RICHIE FAULKNER Are Not Official Members Of JUDAS PRIEST: 'They Are On A Wage'

Carsten Smolinsky of Germany's Bleeding4metal.de recently conducted an e-mail interview with former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing. The original English-language version of the chat appears here in its entirety.

Bleeding4metal.de: Hello, Mr. Downing, thank you very much for taking the time for an interview! I really enjoyed reading "Heavy Duty: Days And Nights In Judas Priest". Did you expect the book to receive that much feedback? How happy are you with the responses?

Downing: "No. [It was a] great surprise for me that the book has been so well received."

Bleeding4metal.de: Is there any response you would have hoped for, but did not receive? Did you expect the current band JUDAS PRIEST not to react at all?

Downing: "No. The response has been more than I could have possibly hoped for. I wasn't surprised that the band did not react to the book."

Bleeding4metal.de: The original title is "Heavy Duty: Days And Nights In Judas Priest" while the German translation is called "Leather Rebel: Mein Leben Mit Judas Priest". Do I get it right that the original title of the book referring to the song was chosen to somehow point at the ambiguity which being in JUDAS PRIEST felt for you at many times (considering what you wrote in the book)? And how do you think about the German title, which is also a song title? Did you choose that one and if not, who did?

Downing: "No. To be honest, the American publishers wanted the title 'Heavy Duty' but the German publishers prefered 'Leather Rebel'. I like both, so I am happy. Although I think 'Leather Rebel' is quite befitting of me, there were no ambiguous meanings behind the title."

Bleeding4metal.de: I understand that you are a big [Jimi] Hendrix fan and that he helped to shape you as a musician and guitar player. What was the biggest influence he gave you without giving to you personally? What did he teach you by watching him on stage and listening to his music?

Downing: "Simply that being a great musician is only a part of what people want. I loved the way that Hendrix worked hard at his performance; he was so captivating to watch. He taught me that it is important to be energetic and it is important to perform as well as play."

Bleeding4metal.de: One story that I found particularly interesting was when you injured your eye with the guitar string on stage during the '80s. Could you please tell us more about this incident and how long you had problems with that after it?

Downing: "Luckily, it wasn't as bad as I first thought. Although I had two punctures by strings that had been cut (but left too long), the hostpital said that I was fortunate that the punctures missed the critical parts of my eye. Basically, I was on stage and Rob [Halford, vocals] swung around and his arm hit the neck of my guitar and the headstock went right into my face. it was a pretty ugly wound, but after about a week, it improved. I remember trying to play tennis with Scott [Travis, drums] with an eye patch on my eye. Forget it! Trust me, you can't play tennis with one eye!"

Bleeding4metal.de: You mention "This Is Spinal Tap" at one point in the book. How much do you think that movie is about JUDAS PRIEST at all? It always reminded me of your career start with the look during the "Listen To The Flowerpeople" segment and then turning full-on metal later.

Downing: "Yes, for sure, the producers were definitely looking at PRIEST, [BLACK] SABBATH, etc for their inspiration.

Bleeding4metal.de: Do you like "This is Spinal Tap"? Was there any contact between JUDAS PRIEST and the filmmakers? How did the band react, if at all? Did you ever meet the band SPINAL TAP or the three guys behind them?

Downing: "Yes, it's all good fun, although it did feel a bit awkward at first as you would expect when something you do that you take very seriously gets turned into a comedy. But it has happened to many people and we have to see the funny side, as it is also often very funny in real life, that's for sure."

Bleeding4metal.de: What was the biggest "Spinal Tap" moment for JUDAS PRIEST during your time in the band?

Downing: "Although very serious at the time, maybe when Rob rode his bike out in Canada and was knocked out. So he and the bike were hidden under a load of dry ice and smoke, we the band came out and played the first song not knowing that Rob was actually on the stage all of the time."

Bleeding4metal.de: We all know that the '90s were a very difficult time for many metal bands. We also know how many disbanded at least temporarily during that decade. When Rob Halford went solo, you had also toyed with the idea of leaving JUDAS PRIEST for a couple of months. How would you imagine the further story of JUDAS PRIEST after "Painkiller" and the tours if Rob had stayed in the band? What might have happened? And do you think albums like "Jugulator" and "Demolition" would have been done like that?

Downing: "I am guessing that if Rob had stayed, we would have gone ahead as we were and would have continued to make great records. How the changing of the times would have affected us, no one can say. But PRIEST may well have been heading in a heavier direction after 'Painkiller'. i still enjoyed it immensely to play with Ripper [Tim Owens] and to make those albums with him. I am sure Rob would not have rejoined if his solo career had gone according to plan. His mistake was to think that his name could be bigger than the brand name JUDAS PRIEST."

Bleeding4metal.de: How do you think about the same scenario if Rob had stayed and you had left then?

Downing: "Who can say? All I know is that I have always felt that I was the most dedicated member of the band, including Ian [Hill, bass], as we never ventured off to play with other musicians. I have to say that I think Rob was very disappointed that his solo attempt was unsuccessful for him."

Bleeding4metal.de: Did you make any real plans about anything if you had left after "Painkiller" and the tour? If so, which?

Downing: "No, not at all."

Bleeding4metal.de: I agree with you that the first solo albums Rob did were pretty eclectic and eccentric. However, I really enjoyed the album "Resurrection" he did in 2000. To me, that was a classic heavy metal record. What did you think of that? Did this return to style in some way pave the way for the reunion a little bit?

Downing: "Absolutely not. It was more that Rob was trying to salvage his solo attempt after failing with FIGHT and TWO or whatever the name was. He jumped back on the PRIEST style after eventually realizing what the fans really wanted. [Producer and guitarist] Roy Z was a big part in putting Rob back on the right track. I remember well Rob making the statement that PRIEST weren't heavy enough for him. So to resort back to making records as close as he could to PRIEST was more than hypocritical of him."

Bleeding4metal.de: I was at the Oberhausen show in June 2004, which was the second reunion show with Rob Halford. For me, that was an absolutely awesome show and I still cherish the memories of it. How did these concerts feel for you? Were you happy with these or do you think it was not yet the best performance possible? How long and intensely did you rehearse before going out then?

Downing: "I was very happy with the show. I think PRIEST were always very well rehearsed for every tour, including dress rehearsals. So the first show was usually as good as any, as we never wanted to have a substandard show."

Bleeding4metal.de: Though I really liked the "Angel Of Retribution" album (I absolutely agree with you on the choice of the title), I always felt that most of the songwriting on that album was playing it pretty safe to make a classic sounding PRIEST album. Can you remember the songwriting sessions for that album and did you feel any pressure to write a traditional album for the fans? Or was that just the album the band had in them at that point?

Downing: "Yes, I remember the songwriting sessions well. Glenn [Tipton, guitar] and me did a lot of work before we went over to Rob's place in San Diego to continue writing and making demos. We just fell naturaly into doing what we always did with Rob. We diversified a little with Ripper, simply because it was a different band in a way."

Bleeding4metal.de: When I did an interview with Rob Halford a couple of years ago, he mentioned that he would love to do a "Nostradamus" theater concert with a big theatrical production. I also think this album is underrated and just throwing in a couple of songs on the tour was simply not doing it justice. Were there any realistic talks and planning about and for doing that? How would you have imagined it?

Downing: "Yes, it would have been great, I think. The idea was to do a full-on musical stage presentation with Rob playing the part of Nostradamus, with illusions, etc. Unfortunately, it will probably happen at some time in the future, but I don't think any of us will be around."

Bleeding4metal.de: What was your absolute highlight of being in JUDAS PRIEST in general and as a concert?

Downing: "It was all a fantastic journey, but to be able to travel the world and meet so many people, every day had highlights. I am so happy to have obtained a good feeling for all of the countries that we went to. We were in Berlin when the wall came down, we were in Zagreb when the tanks rolled in, we were in New York when the power cut/blackout happened, just to mention a few amazing experiences."

Bleeding4metal.de: What was the absolute worst point of being in JUDAS PRIEST? And what was the most terrible concert you ever played with the band and why?

Downing: "I think the worst point was when Rob left the band. I am sure there was a couple of bad shows, but I can't specifically remember them."

Bleeding4metal.de: If you could choose the ultimate bandmembers for JUDAS PRIEST through the years, which ones would that be? Which would be your perfect line up through the decades (no matter if these guys played at some time together or not)?

Downing: "I think the trademark lineup would now be considered what it was when I left, with me, Scott, Glenn, Ian and Rob. But to me, all historical members of JUDAS PRIEST are just as equally important."

Bleeding4metal.de: As far as I can see, you are still a co-director of the band business-wise. But I also understand that you have almost no contact to JUDAS PRIEST now. What is your role the business-wise at all? Does that mean you still have to deal with the management from time to time? For example, if it comes to questions like releasing an anniversary edition of a classic album?

Downing: "The band does not allow me to have any input in any way. I am certainly not happy with the situation."

Bleeding4metal.de: I know you sold some part of your equipment collection in the last couple of years. What part of your collection would you never ever sell? And why?

Downing: "Just the things that are close to me and things that I would need if I were to become active again."

Bleeding4metal.de: The movie "Rock Star" was at some point planned to be about JUDAS PRIEST and having Ripper coming into the band. How do you like that movie and the music in it (I think the music was really good)? Would you have liked it to be more about JUDAS PRIEST?

Downing: "No, I think I'm fine with it the way it is. We were asked initially to be more involved, but I think we were all apprehensive as we were afraid it might look a bit too Hollywood."

Bleeding4metal.de: MÖTLEY CRÜE released their "The Dirt" movie on Netflix recently. "Bohemian Rhapsody" was a huge success in the cinema. Would you like to see an official JUDAS PRIEST biopic? And who would you suggest as actors for you and other members?

Downing: "Yes, I think a PRIEST movie one day would be great, if it's as well done as the two mentioned. No actors spring to mind, but whoever plays me needs to be very handsome (LOL)!"

Bleeding4metal.de: What do you think of all the farewell tours of veteran metal giants taking place now? Do you believe that they'll hang up the guitars for good? And who might take their place?

Downing: "We are all a dying breed. It will be a sad day when all from the '60s, '70s and '80s are gone. We're kind of like the dinosaurs, really. One day, we will be extinct. I doubt that anyone can really replace the icons that were a part of the evolution of rock and metal. We're already missing so many — Lemmy, [Ronnie James] Dio, Malcolm Young, etc."

Bleeding4metal.de: Is rock (and metal) dead, as Gene Simmons said? If so, why, if not, why not?

Downing: "Not for now. There's still lots of great bands out there rockin' out!"

Bleeding4metal.de: What would be the best part about the modern music business if JUDAS PRIEST started out now and what would be the worst?

Downing: "There's no too much of an upside for new bands of today, as there is not the support that there was back in the day. Essentially, revenue from sales of records has dried up. This has had a tremendous knock-on effect throughout the industry and has become devastating for younger bands."

Bleeding4metal.de: I know that the possibility of you rejoining JUDAS PRIEST now is not too likely. Nevertheless, I believe many fans would love to see a final stint of you with them, and so do I. How long do you think you would need to get back in great performance shape? I remember Ian Hill saying in an interview you would probably not be at the peak of your game now if you rejoined.

Downing: "At the time I quit the band, I had more energy than anyone else on stage. In fact, that is one of the reasons I quit. The band just seemed to have slowed down to a steady walk. Even Richie [Faulkner, Downing's replacement] would do well to keep up with me if I rejoined. It seems wrong that Scott, Richie and Andy [Sneap, PRIEST's touring guitarist] are not officially members of JUDAS PRIEST as they are on a wage. So, only two members are on stage right now. Yet they don't want me back. It shows the strength of the brand name JUDAS PRIEST that I spent 40 years being a part of."

Bleeding4metal.de: How many compromises would you make if you were offered to join JUDAS PRIEST again? Or would you just say "on my terms or not all"?

Downing: "There wouldn't need to be any compromises, I would just step back in and do what I have always done. I guess that would also be my terms, to allow the fans to see me as they have always done."

Bleeding4metal.de: If you rejoined the band at all, how long would you see yourself doing it? Could you see yourself getting back into the groove that much you wouldn't feel like stopping at all?

Downing: "I have no doubt that if I returned that I would be completely committed, just as I always was."

Bleeding4metal.de: Thank you very much for your time and answers! If there is anything else you would like to tell our readers, now it would be the perfect time.

Downing: "Just to say a big thank you for all of your committment and dedication to the band. It has been a long road and I have enjoyed playing every concert for you. May you all keep well and strong. You will always be treasured in my memory forever."

CHERIE CURRIE Teams Up With JAMES WILLIAMSON For Supercharged Version Of 'Leader Of The Pack'

CHERIE CURRIE Teams Up With JAMES WILLIAMSON For Supercharged Version Of 'Leader Of The Pack'

With the roar of a motorcycle, '60 pop chanteuses THE SHANGRI-LAS introduced the world to a new tragic hero, the unforgettable bad boy heartthrob and the titular "Leader Of The Pack". The year was 1964 and by that time "teenage tragedy songs" had become a genre unto itself with the likes of Jan & Dean's "Dead Mean's Curve", Ray Peterson's "Tell Laura I Love Her" and many others. But none captured the melodrama of heartbreak as well as "Leader Of The Pack", which would become a No. 1 pop hit and the defining song for THE SHANGRI-LAS.

Now, two veterans of garage rock, trailblazing heartthrobs in their own right, have teamed up for a glorious new version of the tune. Famed STOOGES guitarist James Williamson pours gasoline on the song's instrumental track and lights it on fire with his raw, heavy guitar playing, while RUNAWAYS vocalist Cherie Currie, aided with backup vocals by Leslie Koch Foumberg, amps up the theatricality for maximum emotional impact.

Williamson sings the praises of this new version, saying: "When I first discussed playing on a remake of 'Leader of the Pack', I was skeptical that we could improve on it. That song is so ingrained in my psyche that I couldn't imagine anyone other than Mary Weiss singing the vocal. But when I heard Cherie Currie's version combined with my guitar, I instantly knew we had done an update we could be proud of. I just love the way it came out."

This supercharged version of "Leader Of The Pack" is currently available on all streaming and download platforms as well as on a special seven-inch vinyl single backed with a tune that will be imminently familiar to fans of Cherie Currie, "Cherry Bomb" — a previously released recording featuring music by the MC5's Wayne Kramer and the RAMONES' Marky Ramone.

THE HIVES Are Back With 'I'm Alive', Their First New Song In Four Years

THE HIVES Are Back With 'I'm Alive', Their First New Song In Four Years

It's been nearly two decades since the Swedish rock and roll heroes THE HIVES unleashed their debut album on the world and today they drop an intoxicatingly brash new song, "I'm Alive", via Third Man Records. The track will be featured on a limited-edition double A-side 7” in stores this summer.

"I'm Alive", produced by Dave Sardy (LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, MARILYN MANSON, FALL OUT BOY) and recorded in Los Angeles, is a bold new step in THE HIVES' already illustrious career.

THE HIVES lead singer Pelle Almqvist says: "'I'm Alive' is a song about crawling up from under a rock and obliterating all resistance that sounds like crawling up from under a rock and obliterating all resistance because it is a band crawling up from under a rock and obliterating all resistance. Use it in your own life to help you obliterate your own resistance!"

"I'm Alive" is THE HIVES' first new music since the release of their 2015 standalone single "Blood Red Moon". The band's last full-length album, "Lex Hives", came out in 2012.

Last night, THE HIVES performed at The Blue Room at Third Man Records in Nashville and on Saturday, they kick off a string of sold-out U.S. dates with REFUSED in Philadelphia, wrapping up in San Diego on May 29. They head back to Europe for a summer festival run including performances at the inaugural Lollapalooza Stockholm, Sjock festival (Belgium), Mad Cool (Spain) and more.

In the 20 years since THE HIVES exploded around the world, they have sold out stadiums and shared stages with everyone from AC/DC to THE ROLLING STONES. Spin calls THE HIVES "the best live band on the planet" and Almqvist one of "the greatest frontmen in rock," and the BBC dubbed the band "a force of nature." Rolling Stone named "Veni Vidi Vicious" one of the Top 100 Albums of the decade and "Hate To Say I Told You So" earned a spot on Pitchfork's Top 500 Songs Of The 2000s. They sold millions of albums worldwide, with multiple RIAA gold certifications.

AMY LEE Says EVANESCENCE Is Ready To Start Writing New Album

AMY LEE Says EVANESCENCE Is Ready To Start Writing New Album

EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee says that the band is about to begin working on its long-awaited follow-up to 2011's self-titled effort.

EVANESCENCE spent much of the last two years recording and touring in support of 2017's "Synthesis", which contained some of the band's best-loved songs — as well as a couple of new ones — reinvented with full orchestra over a deep electronic landscape.

EVANESCENCE has around two dozen live appearances scheduled this spring and summer, and Lee told Consequence Of Sound: "We're ready to start writing a new album now, and we really wanted to get back to our roots before going down that path. The orchestra thing was so beautiful and so different. It made us really grow in different directions and work in a way that was outside of all of our comfort zones until it got comfortable. But up was the new down. So, we wanted to get back to the heart and root of our sound as a band and start playing together to get in the mood for the next thing."

As far as the direction of the album, Lee says that the band is open minded right now. She explained: "We're definitely just feeling the camaraderie and brotherhood of each other being on tour together. We're all crammed into one bus with my son included, so it's a very family vibe out here. [Laughs] I'm literally sitting on three people’s backpacks in the back lounge."

She continued: "When we put together our live show, it really is a perfect intro into writing, because we do write. We write little bits and pieces. We created this really fun medley of our songs at rehearsals before this tour, because there are always songs that people on the Internet say, 'You never play this or that song.' There are reasons we don't play it live — it either doesn't work live or it's too slow or something else. So, I thought, what if we just make a Frankenstein of all the best parts of five of those songs? And it's our favorite thing to play every night."

"Synthesis" sold 34,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release to land at position No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. Of that sum, 30,000 were in traditional album sales. EVANESCENCE's 2011 self-titled release debuted at No. 1. "Synthesis" was the group's fourth top 10 effort, following "Evanescence", "The Open Door" (No. 1 in 2006) and "Fallen" (No. 3, 2003).

Last year, Lee told the 93.3 WMMR Rocks! radio station that she wasn't opposed to the idea of releasing singles and EPs instead of full-length albums, especially as streaming services like Spotify continue to alter the way people consume music.

"I just think it's cool to be able to have this freedom to commit to less and do more," she said. "I'm totally open to doing a few songs instead of an album here and there, and see what happens."

CHRIS REIFERT Says AUTOPSY Will Hit Studio Later This Year

CHRIS REIFERT Says AUTOPSY Will Hit Studio Later This Year

Stephanie Jensen of Infernal TV recently conducted an interview with drummer Chris Reifert of veteran death metallers AUTOPSY. You can listen to the entire chat below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On whether AUTOPSY has anything special planned for the 30th anniversary of their "Severed Survival" debut:

Chris: "No, not really. I didn't even realize it was the 30th anniversary until I saw someone saying something about it, so now I know. [Laughs] No, we haven't planned anything. Usually when we play live, we play a bunch of stuff off that album anyway. We're always keeping that stuff out there. Now, we're just focusing on some new stuff right now and happy that people still like that album after all these years."

On his current projects, including his punk rock/metal outfit VIOLATION WOUND, his band with comedian/guitar shredder Dave Hill, PAINTED DOLL, and old-school extreme metal act SIEGE OF POWER:

Chris: "I'm going to be a studio hermit this year, to some extent. Yeah, just lots of new stuff. I'm trying to keep busy. I'm not good at anything else. I like to make a lot of racket, so yeah, I'm recording a PAINTED DOLL album in June, which will be pretty cool, going back out to New Jersey to do that with our buddy Tom [Beaujour]. I'm going to get home and immediately, the next month, record the new VIOLATION WOUND and that will be pretty sick. We've been working in the meantime on AUTOPSY material, so we're kind of taking our time with that. We want to do it right and make it really worth the wait. We hope to record that sometime later in the year. We're not exactly sure when, but we're definitely working on some good stuff. SIEGE OF POWER, we're going to do some split, but I haven't heard about that lately, so I'm kind of just hanging out for the news on that. Yeah, so lots of stuff to do."

On not straying too far from AUTOPSY's core sound while trying to come up with new ideas:

Chris: "That's a good question. I'm not even sure. We just kind of know what we should sound like, I guess. When we write something separately at home, we try to really self-edit ourselves and kind of not really present to everything to everyone else unless we know what we should sound like. This album is kind of a trip because, for me, I had a bunch of songs I wrote last year to go toward the new album. I listened to them a little bit later and I threw them all away and wanted to start all over again fresh. That was kind of a cool approach; I've never done that before. I've always just used, for me, what I've had sitting around, ready to go. I've never thrown away four or five songs and said, 'I can do better than that.' I'm definitely trying to do that this time. That's one of the ways to keep it exciting and make it the best one we can possibly make at this point. In terms of where the ideas come from and stuff like that, I have no idea. It's there, you know? It's just swimming around in the brain for some reason."

On how he ends up taking part in so many different bands:

Chris: "I don't usually set out to start a band or anything like that. It's something that happens. Like with PAINTED DOLL, it just kind of fell into place without a big plan or anything like that. It kind of fell together. Same with VIOLATION WOUND. I just got this idea, 'I should do a crazy punk thing and maybe make a record just for the hell of it.' And it turned into this thing, and six years later, we're still doing it. SIEGE OF POWER, I kind of just fell into that one. They were already together musically and they had a vocalist who couldn't stay in the band for whatever reason. They just hit me up and I said, 'Yeah, it sounds cool.' They're my friends and it sounds cool. A lot of times, these things sort of happen by accident and morph into something from something else."

On how playing on DEATH's legendary 1987 debut, "Scream Bloody Gore" framed him as a musician:

Chris: "It was my first album, so that was exciting. Then just being the age I was at the time, that was… looking back, it's kind of crazy, being 17 and getting to play on that record and play songs that I already liked because I was a fan of DEATH before I ever thought I would get a chance to play in it, so that was extra cool. I got to play 'Beyond The Unholy Grave' and all the songs I liked from the demos, so that was awesome. Overall, it was a killer experience. It made me want to just keep going and keep doing this stuff, even after my time in the band came and went. I'm still hungry to do more. It's great."

AUTOPSY's latest release, the "Puncturing The Grotesque" mini-LP, was released in November of 2017 via Peaceville Records.

HALESTORM's LZZY HALE Has 'So Much' Stuff She Wants To Include On Upcoming 10th-Anniversary Reissue Of Debut Album

HALESTORM's LZZY HALE Has 'So Much' Stuff She Wants To Include On Upcoming 10th-Anniversary Reissue Of Debut Album

Lzzy Hale has confirmed that HALESTORM is currently assembling a "special package" to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the band's self-titled debut album. Released in 2009, the LP was produced by Howard Benson (MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, P.O.D.) and featured the single "I Get Off". The group went on to release three additional studio albums, becoming a mainstay on rock radio.

"We're planning on a couple of things that we're gonna end up sneaking out, different things that maybe nobody has seen before," Lzzy told the "TODDCast Podcast" (hear audio below). "To me, it's interesting, 'cause it's been 10 years since that first record came out, and we have so much that we didn't release, including some stuff that's literally my parents' basement recordings and the first snippets of things. So we've been literally combing through all this stuff to try to find something that we really wanna put out there and narrowing it down from all other stuff.

"When you're compiling to make your first record on a major label… I mean, I'm going back to TASCAM cassette tapes from my recordings," she continued. "It's in my dad's garage. So it's just one of those things where it's, like, 'Okay, there's so much here that I wanna put out,' but then there's this limited amount of space, too, that we're able to do that. But, hey, in a couple of years, it'll be 25 years since the beginning of HALESTORM, so just put out all the stuff. So it's gotta start now."

HALESTORM's latest album, "Vicious", was released last July via Atlantic. The disc was recorded at Nashville, Tennesse's Rock Falcon recording studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz.

HALESTORM was nominated for a "Best Rock Performance" Grammy Award for its song "Uncomfortable".

In 2012, the band won its first Grammy in the category of "Best Hard Rock/ Metal Performance" for "Love Bites (So Do I)". According to the Grammy web site, Lzzy became the first woman to earn a Grammy in the category.

JERRY DIXON: 'When You Have The Original Musicians With ROBERT MASON, It's WARRANT On Steroids'

JERRY DIXON: 'When You Have The Original Musicians With ROBERT MASON, It's WARRANT On Steroids'

WARRANT bassist Jerry Dixon has praised vocalist Robert Mason, who replaced Jani Lane in 2008. The former LYNCH MOB singer has performed on 2011's "Rockaholic" and 2017's "Louder Harder Faster", and has brought a degree of stability to the band after Lane's unceremonious departure and subsequent 2011 death. WARRANT continues to tour regularly in support of "Louder Harder Faster" and is rounded out by original members Erik Turner (guitar), Joey Allen (guitar) and Steven Sweet (drums).

In an interview with Sydney Taylor and Jay Oakley of MA Entertainment Global at this year's M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland (audio below), Dixon was asked about how he felt about the band's most recent studio albums. "For me, I really don't like a record until later on," he said. "Now, I'm starting to like 'Louder Harder Faster'. Because you're doing it and then you're, like, 'Oh, it's different than I thought it should be.' Later on, I listened to it last week, I'm, like, 'This is pretty fucking good.' Now I like it! Then I listen to 'Rockaholic' and I'm, like, 'I love that record.'"

Dixon then talked about the quality of WARRANT's live performances in light of the fact the band is performing with four-fifths of its classic lineup. "That makes a big difference," he said. "Even not just singers, like members, bass players, drummers. When Steven was out with his cancer and we had another drummer who was fantastic, but it sounds different, as it should. When you do have the original musicians with Robert, it's WARRANT on steroids. It's killer."

"Louder Harder Faster" was released in 2017 via Frontiers Music Srl. The disc was recorded with producer Jeff Pilson — a veteran bassist who has played with DIO, FOREIGNER and DOKKEN, among others — and was mixed by Pat Regan, except for the song "I Think I'll Just Stay Here And Drink", which was mixed by Chris "The Wizard" Collier (FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, PRONG, LAST IN LINE).

TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS: I Don't Think YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Likes Me Anymore

TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS: I Don't Think YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Likes Me Anymore

Former YNGWIE MALMSTEEN singer Tim "Ripper" Owens says that he doesn't think the Swedish guitarist likes him anymore.

The ex-JUDAS PRIEST frontman made the comment after BLABBERMOUTH.NET published an excerpt from an interview Yngwie gave to Greece's Rock Hard magazine in which the legendary axeman explained why he hasn't worked with an outside singer on any of his albums following the release of 2010's "Relentless".

Earlier today, Owens, who fronted Malmsteen's band both live and in the studio from 2008 until 2012, took to Twitter to write: "Well with the Yngwie thing on @BLABBERMOUTHNET I went to post possitive [sic] things about Yngwie like I always do because I had a great time with him......I don't think he likes me anymore". The message was accompanied by a screenshot that appears to show that Tim was blocked from viewing tweets from Yngwie's official Twitter account.

After a fan asked Tim what he said about Yngwie on social media to get himself banned from seeing Malmsteen's tweets, Owens responded: "Nothing, only good things. But I've never checked twitter before and went to tag him and bam. Hahaha. Maybe he blocked me after I quit"

When another fan pointed out that Yngwie likely doesn't handle his own social media and that his Twitter account is probably controlled by Malmsteen's wife and manager, Tim replied: "We all know that. When you say Yngwie it's a brand, a band name. Like Judas Priest. They don't handle their either. Hahaha. All done by management"

Back in 2015, Owens told "The Jasta Show" that he quit Malmsteen's band because "he kept asking me to do shows, and I was already booked to do a solo show. I just didn't have the time to do it," Tim explained. "I thought he could get some young kid that could blow me away, pay the kid five hundred bucks a week on a tour and be happy with it and make the show better."

Tim also didn't rule out working with Yngwie again, saying: "I'd maybe do a record with him again, and maybe a quick tour, but I just couldn't fit it in."

According to Owens, he was treated well by Yngwie during his time with the guitarist. "Every time I got off stage, if I didn't have a good night, he'd be, like, 'Man, you fucking were great,'" Tim said. "I actually enjoyed my time being around him."

Yngwie told Rock Hard that he prefers to handle the lead vocals on his albums himself nowadays because his previous "singers would always cause trouble; they would always be acting like they were special and they had something different to say or whatever… The singers always think that they're better than the keyboard player or they're better than the drummer."

Two years ago, Jeff Scott Soto, who sang on Yngwie's first two albums, 1984's "Rising Force" and 1985's "Marching Out", engaged in a war of words with the Swedish guitarist over the fact that Malmsteen claimed in an interview that he "always wrote everything," including the lyrics and melodies, and simply hired various vocalists to sing his material.

In the days after Yngwie's original interview with Metal Wani was published on BLABBERMOUTH.NET, several of the guitarist's former singers — including Soto, Owens and Joe Lynn Turner — responded on social media, with Turner describing Malmsteen's statements as "the rantings of a megalomaniac desperately trying to justify his own insecurity." This was followed by a retort from a member of Yngwie's management team, who wrote on Malmsteen's Facebook page that the three vocalists "came out enraged, spitting insults and profanities" at the guitarist because "Yngwie said something that they didn't like." The management representative added: "It's very unfortunate that these past hired vocalists must resort to mudslinging and insults to elicit any kind of media attention towards them. Such classless, puerile words are ungentlemanly at best and absolutely disgraceful at worst."

They make the sarcastic humor line I said look so serious. Hahahhahah. Hey @BLABBERMOUTHNET add a freaking LOL or ? Hahahahahhaha. ? https://t.co/y641XAiBSd— Tim 'Ripper' Owens ?? (@TimRipperOwens) May 16, 2019

VAN HALEN's DAVID LEE ROTH And ARMIN VAN BUUREN Team Up On 'Jump' Remix: Single Out Now

VAN HALEN's DAVID LEE ROTH And ARMIN VAN BUUREN Team Up On 'Jump' Remix: Single Out Now

It's not every day that you see two very different legendary artists team up for a common cause, but today is one of those memorable days that dance music fans won't soon forget — the renowned Dutch DJ and producer Armin Van Buuren has taken on the challenge of remixing VAN HALEN's classic 1983 smash hit "Jump", one of the most enduring and timeless singles in rock and roll history. Listen below.

Out today through Big Beat Records, Armin Van Buuren puts his signature, uplifting, progressive, trance spin on the iconic rock anthem, kicking off the remix by isolating frontman David Lee Roth's classic verse and adding in arpeggiating synths and cowbell for good measure. Naturally, the remix explodes once it reaches the song's classic chorus, and never lets go from there, steadily building until an unforgettable climax. Who would've thought "Jump" could get any more anthemic?!

Armin told Rolling Stone that the remix came together when a friend of his offered to send him the song's recording stems. "I'm like, 'Yeah, hell yeah,'" the producer said. "I knew the song already as a kid. I think I was 6 years old when the track was a No. 1 hit everywhere. I was just eager to have the stems, because I always thought, 'What if you could have the energy of that song from 1982 and transfer it to 2019?'" He sent it to Roth a few weeks ago, and the singer loved it.

"Just the fact that David is open for such a thing is quite huge to me," Van Buuren said.

"I agree with all of that," Roth added. "It's the first step toward world peace if we can do it."

Asked if there are any other songs from his catalog that he would want to remix, Roth said: "They're all eminently remixable, but there are so many different genres of 'the groove.' And whether it's dubstep, chill, trance and on and on, and yeah, judge, I admit it. I knows the difference.

"If you're talking remix, I'm an extremist, and I would head for Korea. We're in Henson Studios in the heart of Tinseltown. Pharrell is walking these halls and John Mayer is recording and rehearsing across the hallway; he lives here now in the studio. THE GRATEFUL DEAD's been very, very good to him. God bless them. But no, there's a whole lot of Shakespeare going on here, musically and theatrically. And when you say, 'remix,' that could be 15 different haircuts before happy hour. Yes, yes, yes. You want me to say it 15 times?"

"Jump" is still VAN HALEN's most successful single to date, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 along with being ranked No. 15 on VH1's "100 Greatest Songs Of The 1980s." The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame And Museum also listed it as one of the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock And Roll" and its music video was nominated for three MTV VMAs at the time, along with winning "Best Stage Performance." Armin's remix of "Jump" had its first listen when Roth came out during Armin's Ultra Music Festival concert earlier this year for a performance fans still haven't forgotten.

RAVEN Frontman JOHN GALLAGHER On Band's Iconic Logo - "I Was Looking At Logos Like JUDAS PRIEST And IRON MAIDEN..."; Audio

RAVEN Frontman JOHN GALLAGHER On Band's Iconic Logo - "I Was Looking At Logos Like JUDAS PRIEST And IRON MAIDEN..."; Audio

Ahead of their first ever Australian tour in June, John Gallagher from Raven appeared on the Australian Rock Show podcast (audio below). Gallagher was asked about the history of Raven’s iconic band logo, which first graced the cover of the band’s second single, 1981's "Hard Ride".

Says John: “I did it - I came up with it. We needed a logo, there’s some early photos (where) you can see this bizarre bird-looking thing - like the ‘V’ is the body of the bird and the ‘R’ and the ‘N’s like a wing and I wasn’t too fond of that.

"Then we had this thing which was just like Gothic script floating around. So when we did the (first) single we just used an army stencil version. And we were just looking for something and I was looking at logos like Judas Priest and the Iron Maiden one and said well I like the straight lines - let’s see if the letters in ‘Raven’ would land a straight line there’s really no curves - let’s see what we can come up with. I added the flash and everyone loved it and there you go - it went from there."

Find Raven's tour itinerary here.

IRON MAIDEN's BRUCE DICKINSON Unveils 'Trooper Sun And Steel' Saké-Infused Lager (Video)

IRON MAIDEN's BRUCE DICKINSON Unveils 'Trooper Sun And Steel' Saké-Infused Lager (Video)

A short video of IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson unveiling Sun And Steel, the first lager in the Trooper range, can be seen below.

Sun And Steel is one of the most complex beers that Robinsons Brewery have ever produced; a double fermented lager created with authentic Japanese saké yeast.

The idea for the beer, designed once again by beer aficionado Dickinson along with Robinsons's head brewer Martyn Weeks, was first conceived during the autumn of 2016 following a meeting between Bruce and friend of the band and longtime IRON MAIDEN fan George Yusa, owner of the 300-year-old family-run Okunomatsu Saké Brewery in Fukushima. Bruce became intrigued with the idea of putting the two flavor profiles together and thus Sun And Steel was born.

George was able to deliver a sample of the saké yeast to IRON MAIDEN's 2017 concert at London's O2 Arena, which Bruce took up to Robinsons Brewery. Having obtained permission from the Japanese government to brew with it, Martyn and the team have been carefully cultivating the strain ever since.

Dickinson commented: "This has been such an exciting project. I had a crazy idea to try and make a sake infused lager and over two and a half years later, here we are! I know Martyn and the team at Robinsons have had to become mad scientists to make this work, but the end result is a really unique hybrid beer that tastes fantastic. Trooper fans have been asking for a lager, and here it is. I bet you would never have guessed we would do it like this though!"

Sun And Steel takes its name from the IRON MAIDEN song of the same name that appears on their 1983 "Piece Of Mind" album, which was in turn inspired by the life of Japanese samurai Miyamoto Musashi.

Sun And Steel is a hybrid beer because it’s made with two yeasts. A lager yeast for the initial fermentation followed by a saké yeast for a second fermentation. The result? A delicate, subtle fruit flavor infused into a pilsner style lager.

Sun And Steel, the sixth beer in the Trooper range, was made available in the U.K. from May 6 in celebration of Trooper's sixth birthday, with the beer available worldwide from later in 2019.

THREAT SIGNAL / IMONOLITH Vocalist JON HOWARD To Guest On Forthcoming SKYE ASYLUM Album

THREAT SIGNAL / IMONOLITH Vocalist JON HOWARD To Guest On Forthcoming SKYE ASYLUM Album

Canadian multi-instrumentalist Robb Finlayson, who recently released his new solo album The Beauty Of Rage, has issued a new update on his Skye Asylum project.

"Another new one that will be on the album. I think this is the heaviest and the most groove of any song I have written. The vocals of Jon Howard will be featured, with ambient textures backups and intro by Alexa Ray This tune actual excites me a bit! This is a concept album that has some evil to it and some beauty to it. I have gone everywhere with this record!!"

Following is an update from Finlayson:

"As some of you know I have been writing my ass off for the past two years. With two albums under my belt, I am finally taking the plunge into recording a project that I always wanted to do, but did not have the songs to do it with. Skye Asylum is purely for me, I want to tell a story that speaks through the music. I have the highest of expectations for myself and from the over 50 songs I have written, I could not be happier with how this will turn out. Here is a bit of a mix of some rough recordings and examples of the varying sounds you should expect to hear on the Skye Asylum debut album called The Under Dark. There will be a lot of cross genre music throughout. Here is a very rough sample of some of the contrasting music styles. First song has excerpts from 'Menzoberrazan' and the second one is 'Oracle Falls Part 2'."

Check out a clip of Finlayson's work with Skye Asylum vocalist Alexa Ray, also featuring Imonolith / Devin Townsend Project drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen, released on March 1st.
