Two giants of extreme metal have teamed up to lay waste to European shores in 2020. Grammy nominated Richmond, VA metallers Lamb Of God and German thrash pioneers Kreator will bring a State Of Unrest across the continent in March and April. Support from the Dallas, TX wrecking crew Power Trip.

Guitar legend Michael Schenker recently sat down with Louder Sound and discussed his career, guitars, music and personal philosphies. Following is an excerpt from the interview.

The lead guitar is pure

Schenker: "I fell in love with heavy metal when I heard Led Zeppelin and and Black Sabbath, and I use that as a screen. Of course, I'm not playing what they did. I put my own screen together. It's not jazz, and it's not pop. It's metal. I use that screen to put my lead guitar on. Each note has to have a meaning. If you have three notes, what's going to be the fourth? The one that gives you goose pimples? That's what I do when I wrote things like the intro to 'Holiday'. Or 'Try Me'. Or 'Doctor Doctor'. My fascination is with the single string, and what you can do with it. There are endless combinations: Hit a string twice. Hit a string three times. Hit it twice. Leave a gap. Hit it again. Make vibrato. Don't make vibrato. Let it sustain. It goes on and on and on!

I still have a way of putting meaning behind notes, even if I play fast. Playing fast is usually very technical: there's no vibrato, no emotions. But if you consciously put those fast notes together, you can ensure that each note – if you play them in slow motion – comes from a really good place. And then, when you play them fast, it will still be effective." 

Don't regret anything

Schenker: "I'm sitting here today, and I'm quite happy. You can't regret anything, because every choice and every move brings you to the next destination. If we make too many wrong choices we can end up towards the dark, and everything gets darker and darker. If we makes the right choices we end up towards the light. In other words, you feel happier and more unhappy, based on the choices you make. If you take shortcuts, it will backfire later, and bring you trauma or unhappiness. But if you're true to yourself, the feedback is great. I'm happy."

Southern German symphonic black metal troop Totengeflüster released their sophomore album on October 11th via Black Lion Records. Titled The Faceless Divine, this opus is the most intense and darkest creation of the band to date. The official video for the song "On Carrion Wings" can be viewed below.

Vocalist Narbengrund Nihilis offers: "'On Carrion Wings' is the opener of our third album, The Faceless Divine (apart from the intro obviously) and starts right away with a blast in your face! The song is subdivided into three thirds: a blasting start (the rise and fall of the protagonist), an epic and symphonic middle and a… Let’s call it ‘modern’ and rhythmic finale (the awakening or the revelation).”

Guitarist Totleben adds: “When I composed ‘On Carrion Wings’ I wanted to reach new ground with the song, something different to what Totengeflüster did before. Sure, we still use our iconic sound but it still feels like a new territory which feels fresh and sophisticated. Producing the video to it was a great step forward and an opportunity for us to show how we have grown in the last time. One step follows another and I think we did a big step in the right direction. Supported by a great crew, and especially Karoline Hanna from Rock In Raw Photography and her camera assistant Tobias Marr, we got the quality we were aiming for. The location also represents the feeling and atmosphere of the written and performed music in the best way, I think. Editing the video and making sure this clip delivers the message and feeling was let me say … ‘a joyful challenge’. I’ve learned a lot and I’m very proud of the result.”

Swedish metal band, Aktaion, have released a music video and single for “Oblivion”, the track is taken from their third album Above Empires which was released on August 23, 2019. The video was made by Eddie Berg of Liftamountain (Atena, Visions Of Atlantis, Imminence).

The song is produced by Francis Larsson, Oskar Johnsen Rydh & Axel Croné. Recorded at Obsidian Recording Studios (Hammerfall, The Unguided, Despite) / Robert Kuklas.  Mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman (Arch Enemy, Armageddon, At the Gates).

Above Empires is the third Aktaion full length following 2015's Throne and 2016's Parade of Nature. "With this album the main goal we wanted to achieve was to get straight to the point!" states guitarist Francis Larsson. "Riffs; straight to the point, song structures; straight to the point, lyrics; straight to the point. Before, we ventured into longer songs with many layers but this time we wanted to challenge ourselves in exploring fewer elements in each song, and getting the most out of each riff and melody. This album is also a first for Aktaion as we, in contrast to our first two albums, went into a studio. We collaborated with Studio Fredman and Obsidian Recording Studios for the recording, and mixing and mastering together with Fredrik Nordström. With this album we really took our time with writing and pre-production as we had almost a whole year to prepare for the studio. We recorded several versions of the songs, and from an early stage worked together with Robert Kukla at Obsidian Recording Studios. In the end we surpassed everything we done in the past in terms of sound and songs. This is the ultimate Aktaion experience."

Hard-rockers Stitched Up Heart have released their new song "Crooked Halo" today with RED MUSIC. "Crooked Halo" is off the band's forthcoming full-length sophomore album Darkness out spring 2020.

"'Crooked Halo' is about not being perfect. Even if we strive to behave, we don't always do the right thing. It's admitting we are not all good all the time," states Stitched Up Heart frontwoman Alecia "Mixi" Demner.

Stitched Up Heart recently announced their North American tour with Steel Panther. Just before Stitched Up Heart hits the road with Steel Panther, the band will embark on a handful of headline dates. Catch the band on tour starting November 12th in Salt Lake City and wrapping on December 15th in Kansas City.

Darkness features previously released tracks such as "Lost" feat. Sully Erna of Godsmack, "Darkness", "Warrior" and "Problems". The upcoming full-length album was produced by From First To Last singer/guitarist, Matt Good (producer of Asking Alexandria and Hollywood Undead).

Darkness is the follow up album to the Stitched Up Heart's debut album Never Alone, which charted at #7 on Billboard's Hard Rock Albums chart, #14 on Billboard Independent Albums chart, #23 on Billboard Top Albums chart and at #4 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. The album features the hit track, "Monster, which peaked at #25 on Billboard's Active Rock chart and #27 on the Mainstream Rock Songs Chart.

Dan McCafferty is streaming samples of his upcoming Last Testament album in the trailer below:

There are very few classic rock vocalists that you recognize after hearing just a few notes. The legendary Dan McCafferty, the former frontman of Scottish rockers Nazareth, is one of those vocalists. After nearly 50 years of road work with the band, McCafferty had to retire due to health reasons. However, that unique instrument - his voice - is still capable of blowing the roof off.

With 15 tracks, Last Testament is a blistering album with a full mix of lyrical and musical styles. It arrives on October 18 via earMUSIC. There are out and out rockers, like "My Baby" and "Bring It On Back," for example. But at the core of this release is a newfound freedom to explore avenues of creativity.

There are songs of reflection like, "You And Me," "Looking Back," and the very emotional first single "Tell Me," plus "Sunshine," which features a guest vocal by Nazareth bandmate Pete Agnew, which are tender love songs.

McCafferty teamed up with Czech composer, accordion, and keyboard maestro Karel Marik, who is the author of all music and the producer of album, while McCafferty has written all the lyrics.

Recorded and mixed at Substation Studio in Rosyth Scotland by sound engineer Duncan Aitken and mastered by Eike Freese at Chameleon Studios Hamburg, Last Testament is a unique outstanding album which will surprise, challenge, and delight his countless fans throughout the world.

Finnish/Dutch/British symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH will release "Decades: Live In Buenos Aires" on December 6 as a Blu-ray digibook, 2CD digipak, Blu-ray+2CD earbook and 3LP via Nuclear Blast. The set was recorded on September 30, 2018 at Estadio Malvinas in Buenos Aires, Argentina during the "Decades" tour in support of the band's compilation album of the same name.

"Decades: Live In Buenos Aires" was captured by 19 cameras on that extraordinary night in Argentina. NIGHTWISH came out to the rousing "End Of All Hope" and took its final bow to the unmatched epic "Ghost Love Score". In between saw a set filled with pure trailblazing glory — incorporating distinguished tracks "Wish I Had An Angel", "Sacrament Of Wilderness", "Elvenpath", "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean", "Dead Boy's Poem" and many more.

"I didn't just want to pick out the most successful NIGHTWISH songs for this tour," keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen explains. "Instead, I asked myself which songs I would play to somebody who had never heard of our band. At some point during the preparation process, I realized that I was smiling all the time. I remembered the curious, innocent boy writing all of these songs."

The "Decades" tour ran from March 9, 2018 to December 15, 2018 and consisted of stops in 82 cities across Europe, North America and South America.

Tentatively due in the spring, NIGHTWISH's next album will mark the band's second full-length release with singer Floor Jansen, who has been touring with the group since 2012.

Holopainen said last year that the arranging and recording process for NIGHTWISH's follow-up to 2015's "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" album would take most of 2019.

Tuomas also said that there is a lyrical theme tying together all the songs he has written for NIGHTWISH's next record, but he declined to elaborate.

MACHINE HEAD has released the official Marius Milinski-directed music video for its new track "Do Or Die". The track is available now on all digital platforms via Imperium Recordings/Nuclear Blast.

"Do Or Die" was produced by MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn and Zack Ohren (FALLUJAH, ALL SHALL PERISH) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California. It was mixed by Russ Russell (AT THE GATES, NAPLAM DEATH, SIKTH) at Parlour Studios in the United Kingdom. The mastering was handled by Gene Grimaldi at Oasis Mastering in Burbank, California.

The "Do Or Die" cover artwork was created by Marcelo Vasco and can be seen below.

"Do Or Die" was recorded last December by Flynn, bassist Jared MacEachern and WARBRINGER drummer Carlos Cruz.

Cruz stepped in to play on "Do Or Die" following the departure of MACHINE HEAD's longtime drummer Dave McClain.

"I had just been wanting to make music, and so right after we got done with the last tour, I was, like, 'I've gotta make music,'" Flynn explained during an August Facebook Live session. "I had all these fucking songs written for months now, since April [of last year], and I wanted to go and write them and record them and jam them with the dudes. So my engineer Zack arranged for Carlos Cruz, who is the drummer for WARBRINGER. He played in POWER TRIP — an awesome new, modern thrash band. Sick-ass drummer — awesome drummer. Young guy, really cool. He came up and jammed with Jared [MacEachern, bass] and I. [He] just fucking killed it. It was awesome playing with him. And it really inspired me, kind of brought me out of my funk. I'd been really wanting to write new music for a while, and it was just right place, right time. The dude was amazing, and I can never be grateful enough for everything that he brought to the table. Awesome dude."

Flynn said that MACHINE HEAD's session with Cruz yielded about four or five new "jams." "Not all the songs got finished, but it was just cool fleshing them out," he said. "And so it gave me a lot of time to work on 'em, sing vocals, all this stuff."

The release of "Do Or Die" will be followed by the arrival of more new songs from MACHINE HEAD. "We're gonna start dropping a steady stream of new music — standalone songs," Flynn said. "There's not gonna be an album; there's just gonna be a steady stream of standalone tracks that are consistently released. And then eventually they may or may not end up on an album. But we're mixing it up. We wanna do this new model where we can put stuff out faster and get new music out quicker to the die-hards.

"We wanna have this ability to not just have an album come out every three years, which is what we've been doing — every four years sometimes — and just make it quicker and more consistent and more like a regular thing," he explained. "I don't know what it's gonna be, but I'm definitely excited about it. I'm excited for you guys to hear this new shit."

Flynn previously told Metal Hammer magazine that he wrote "Do Or Die" in August 2018, before McClain and guitarist Phil Demmel announced they were leaving the band. "Two days after that announcement on Facebook Live, I was back in the studio and working on ideas and lyrics," he said. "I guess I was really just pissed off that day. After all the haters and all the negativity, all the bullshit. It's vicious!"

MACHINE HEAD kicked off the first leg of its 25th-anniversary tour for the band's classic debut, "Burn My Eyes", on October 5 in Freiburg, Germany.

Building on the band's previous "An Evening With…" format, the "Burn My Eyes" anniversary show is described in a press release as "a three-hour musical extravaganza," comprised of two parts: part one consists of a battery of MACHINE HEAD's modern classics, such as "Imperium", "Halo" and "Locust", featuring Flynn and MacEachern performing alongside new recruits, Polish guitarist Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka (DECAPITATED) and British drummer Matt Alston (DEVILMENT, EASTERN FRONT); part two features "Burn My Eyes" played in its entirety for the first time ever, with original drummer Chris Kontos and guitarist Logan Mader joining in.

Kontos left MACHINE HEAD before the release of the band's second album, 1997's "The More Things Change", and was replaced by McClain.

Mader contributed to two MACHINE HEAD albums, the aforementioned "Burn My Eyes" and "The More Things Change", before exiting the group and being replaced by Ahrue Luster and, later on, Demmel.

Icelandic wrecking crew, Une Misère, will be unleashing their full length debut, Sermon, unto the world on November 1 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Today, the band releases the music video for their second single, "Failures". It was a family affair as the video was produced by the band with their very own Gunnar Ingi Jones handling the directing. With a special thanks to Kex Hostel and all the kids who helped make this video. Watch the music video below.

Jón Már Ásbjörnsson comments, "'Failures' is about my journey off of drugs. The realization, the sobering up, the withdrawals and the self loathing it brought with it. It's a song of anger and of regret but as it breaks down, it becomes this release that one needs. It keeps me sober. The song goes out to the straight edge kids out there."

Sermon was produced and mixed  by Sky van Hoff with mastering completed by Svante Forsbäck. The album was engineered by Marco Bayatl, Sky Van Hoff and Marco Kollenz. The album artwork was created by Niklas Sundin.

The product of a modern age; the sonic nature of Une Misère cannot be easily defined. With an inherently heavy nature, the band sits somewhere on a vast spectrum of blackened hardcore and aggressive metal.

Canadian deathcore pioneers, Despised Icon, are back with their sixth full length album, Purgatory, out on November 15 via Nuclear Blast. Today, the band release the second single, "Snake In The Grass". For the music video, the band once again used Jessy Fuchs of Les Films 37 Superkicks.

Vocalist Alex Erian comments, "Stoked to share more new music with you all. Here’s the slammiest track off our new record. Bringing back the pig squeals! 🐷 Purgatoreeeeee is out next month!"

Purgatory was produced by Yannick St-Amand, Eric Jarrin and Alex Erian. The music was recorded by Despised Icon's former guitar player, now current front of house engineer Yannick St-Amand while the vocals were recorded by close friend Antoine Lussier of Ion Dissonance. Mixing and mastering were completed by Cryptopsy's very own Christian Donaldson at The Grid in Montreal. For the album artwork, the band selected Eliran Kantor to create a piece that echoed the themes and concepts of Purgatory.

Without a doubt their most dynamic venture to date, Despised Icon have a fresh and energy filled arrangement just waiting to see the light of day in the form of Purgatory. For many years, they have laid the foundation of Deathcore and spearheaded different sounds and movements within the genre.

Wayward Sons have released their new album, The Truth Ain’t What It Used To Be, via Frontiers Music Srl. Watch a video for the title track below.

The new album could be called a concept record, as there is a narrative thread that connects the twelve tracks, but singer/guitarist and songwriter Toby Jepson, prefers to call it a 'protest' record and describes the new materials as 'political' but not of the sort that seeks to hammer the message home, more of a reflection of his take on where the world and we are. Jepson admires and draws influence from storytellers like Elvis Costello, David Bowie and Queen - artists who could pass on their message through their storytelling craft.

Wayward Sons is a UK guitar act made up of Toby Jepson (Vocals/Guitar), Sam Wood (Guitar), Nic Wastell (Bass), Dave Kemp (Keys) and Phil Martini (Drums). They have an impressive resume of groups they have previously worked with - Little Angels, Gun, Spear Of Destiny, Treason Kings and Chrome Molly to name a few - which is reassuring in terms of the band as players, but doesn’t really hint at their sound. Wayward Sons sound nothing like the sum of their parts. The music is hard rock, but mixed with a vitality and energy - both musically and lyrically.

Frontman Toby Jepson was, of course, the singer and songwriter in British rock act Little Angels, who enjoyed great success at home and abroad and achieved a UK number one album with their third release Jam.

German progressive metal masters, Vanden Plas, have released The Ghost Xperiment - AwakenIng via Frontiers Music Srl. The album is part one of a two part concept album, with the second album to be released in 2020. The song "Three Ghosts" is available for streaming below.

The quintet's ninth regular studio production, The Ghost Xperiment - AwakenIng continues to underscore the high artistic level of musicianship and lyrical creativity that the band have sustained for so long. Based on an actual documented paranormal experiment, the main character in the story, created by frontman Andy Kuntz, is Gideon Grace, a man who has to fight constantly for his life against the relentless shadows of the “House of Rain” as he wanders through France. Burdened with a heavy weight of sorrow following the agonizing death of his beloved Ivy, Gideon's pain is also his driving force in the war with his demons. He expands his knowledge with books he finds in the library of a German school of metaphysics. It is here that he reads about secret teachers and parapsychological experiments, which become an important foundation from which he can fight against the creatures of darkness. When it comes to the first showdown with said creatures, rather than finding peace, Gideon's battle tears open a hole deep into the abyss of Hell…

Musically, Vanden Plas once again offers a perfect combination of heavy and melodic, while the orchestral arrangements here are more in the background compared to the last studio album. At the same time, the quintet comes closer to its original roots, such as “The God Thing” or “Far Off Grace”: more progressive elements in the songs, similar to what one knows from those earlier releases. The six, mostly long, pieces achieve their impressive and fascinating effect through a very band-oriented arrangement, so that the clear and intensive urgency of the songs shines through naturally. The listener is captivated from the start, first by songs that each deserve to be called epic and second through the story told through the lyrics.

This recording is once again a product of the band's trusted collaborations with sound engineer Markus Teske at Bazement Studios. The Ghost Xperiment - AwakenIng, a phenomenal long player, once again proves why Vanden Plas are among prog metal's elite class.

The 69 Eyes's Hell Has No Mercy 2020 US Tour kicks off on January 15 at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, the 24-date trek will make stops in Chicago, West Hollywood and Richmond before concluding at Reverb in Reading, PA on February 22. Direct support will be none other than label-mates The Duke of Spook and his devilish ghouls known collectively as Wednesday 13. Joining them on the tour are The Nocturnal Affair and The Crowned.

Cosmic death metal band, Blood Incantation, have joined forces with Century Media Records to release the band’s second studio album, Hidden History Of The Human Race, outside of North America, Mexico and Canada. Dark Descent Records will be handling the American release and the album will be available worldwide on November 22.

Now, Blood Incantation release the first video/single in support of the new opus: “'Inner Paths (To Outer Space)' is a meditative journey through the inner cosmos of the human mind. We improvised this track on psychedelics over a period of several months, allowing it to grow and evolve as it chose. As probably one of the shortest guest appearances in music history, the sole growl towards the end has been performed by Antti Boman of the mighty Demilich! The atmosphere is meant to allow the listener time and space to explore their own thoughts and go on their own journey before the epic brutality of the album returns for the final track.”

Australia's high voltage outfit, Mammoth Mammoth, will release their fifth studio album, Kreuzung, on November 8 via Napalm Records. Kreuzung will be available on LP, CD and in digital formats, and can be pre-ordered here.

Recorded and produced by Richard Behrens in the winter of 2018/19 at Big Snuff Studio, Berlin, it is the first album with the new lineup consisting of original members, Mikey Tucker (vocalist) and Frank Trobbiani (drums) and introducing new members, Marco Gennaro (guitarist) and Kris Fiore (bass). The rock 'n' roll juggernaut seized the opportunity to refine their hard-rock formula since the release of Mount The Mountain two years ago. The result is an electrifying sledgehammer that cements their name Mammoth Mammoth.

''We're excited to release our next track ’Tear It Down’ from our new record Kreuzung set for release on November 8th," charismatic Mammoth Mammoth vocalist, Mikey Tucker, explains. ''I think this track is a great example of how we've taken this album in a slightly different direction with our new lineup but still keeping the hard and dark edge we've always had. Lyrically, the song is about how difficult life can get for many people who suffer from mental health issues. These dark times can push you into having suicidal thoughts or putting up defensive walls to try survive, but if you're fortunate to have someone who loves you unconditionally, then they can help tear that wall down, enabling you to see that life is worth living.“

In January 2017, the band found themselves at a crossroads. Already committed to two European tours, including their first visit to Spain and Portugal plus a large number of shows on the summer festival circuit, original guitarist Ben Couzens and bassist Pete Bell were unable to perform those ongoing commitments. In order for Mammoth Mammoth to honour those shows, Tucker and Trobbiani needed to find replacement musicians to continue to bring the high-energy, beer-soaked, dirty-rock shows to their loyal fan base.

Inspired by new surroundings, Tucker, Trobbiani, Gennaro and Fiore holed themselves up in Rock Haus, Berlin in 2018 and crafted the new album together whilst searching for a new producer. Someone who would both challenge and nurture their new lineup.

Tucker says on working with Richard, "I wanted to introduce a new sound, something a little more vintage sounding. I was tired of listening to rock albums that were so overly produced they’d lost all their soul. I stumbled upon Big Snuff Studio and really liked the work they were doing with Kadavar." Trobbiani adds, "Writing and recording Kreuzung in Berlin has been a refreshing change, the collaborative process made the whole experience killer and we can’t wait to play it live to everyone."

Kreuzung, signifies where the band had found themselves in 2017, somewhere between the past, the present and the future. This album proves that the gritty rock 'n' roll manifesto of Mammoth Mammoth has truly evolved and they know exactly where they’re heading next.

German heavy metal band Turbokill have released the second single taken from the forthcoming debut album, Vice World. Check out the official lyric video for "Pulse Of The Swarm" below.

In an enlightened world, it must be allowed to ask how the musical succession to metal legends like Judas Priest or Iron Maiden is to be realized. Or is the change of guards already under way? Following in the footsteps of the metal giants of our era will by no means be an easy feat. Still, it must be done, and we need suitable candidates with a vision who align themselves with the long history of this music genre while taking their compositions and playing style into the future.

Turbokill, the new formation of former Alpha Tiger vocalist Stephan Dietrich, could be such a candidate in the making. The German band comes with an exceptionally set of skills to drive forward a heavy metal style that is traditional yet modern. Is it too bold a thesis then, to name them as a contender? Hardly, especially since the 12 songs making up the group’s first album Vice World  beg to differ. The message comes across loud and clear: The future of the classic heavy metal has already begun.

German-Italian melodic metal act, The Unity, have released a video for the song "Welcome Home", taken from the current studio album, Rise.

Danish guitarist Soren Andersen, widely known as Glenn Hughes' guitar player but also a reputed producer, releases his new solo album Guilty Pleasures today (October 11th). Guilty Pleasures is an instrumental album oriented to... well, to the guitar. But it's so much more than that.

“This kind of album has been a dream of mine since I sat in math class and drew pictures of Marshall stacks in my school books when I was 14-15 years old", the Danish musician/producer comments. "The songs have just added up over the last 30 years and this is the right time for me to finally fulfil this lifelong dream”.

“I have learned that I’ve made a bit of a name for myself around the world and I’ve have often been asked for my own records especially after my performances with Glenn Hughes. I know I’m not in the same league technically as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and stylistically it’s way more inspired by 80s movie soundtracks, where I first fell in love with the lead melodies being played on the guitar as opposed to being a lead vocal line. But I promise I will deliver my 26 favorite tricks on the album”, says Soren Andersen with a smile and his typically relaxed mood.

The album features guest appearances from among others Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Glenn Hughes, Marco Mendoza and fellow Dane Ida Nielsen (Prince).

"This is my celebration of the mid ‘80s to the max! Miami Vice, Axel F, Top Gun and so on... It's time to put pink gel in the hair and tighten those hightops. Featuring Ida Nielsen on bass (Prince) and Marcus Linnet on electric Simmons drums. I invited Marcus to lay down some drum fills on the track because of his work with Anne Linnet & Marquis De Sade. The story goes that Anne imported the first set of Simmons drums to Denmark back in the early ‘80s, and yes: We used the original pads and drum machine for the recordings of Skybar. Ida and I have a long history of different work over the last 10 years, so it was obvious to invite her on board for this song, and she said yes! Ida took this track to next level and I decided to name the song after her. We did a show together 2 years ago on a rooftop bar in Los Angeles, so in my love and respect for her, I named the track: ‘Skybar’!"

 

 

You might know Soren Andersen for his 10 year long relationship as the guitarist for Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple), but the 45 year old Dane is much more.

 

 

Producer, co-owner of famed Medley Studios in Copenhagen, ambassador for world class equipment like TC Electronic, Yamaha Guitars and Line 6 and of course playing the six strings with a bunch of other great musicians.

Blood Eagle recently released their first of three EPs that combined make up To Ride In Blood & Bathe In Greed. The Denmark based death metal band is comprised of former members of Volbeat, Mnemic, Hatesphere, Illdisposed, and Raunchy. Officially surfaced in 2013, good friendship and love for old school death metal have made Blood Eagle an unstoppable force.

Today the band releases the second visualizer from first EP, entitled "Impact Irreversible". Watch the video visualizer below.

The band comments, "'Impact Irreversible' is the third song we ever wrote. The very first two songs we ever wrote were just classic death metal. Then we started experimenting with our sound and the outcome is 'Impact Irreversible'. It's one of those that just got pieced together, first with the main riff in protools, then the rest in the rehearsal. It's one of the strongest songs on the album, with heavy triplets riffs, blast beats and some atmospheric black metal elements."

To Ride In Blood & Bathe In Greed Part II will be released on October 18 while Part III will be released on November 22. The album was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studios. All artwork was created by Rune Stigart. Stay tuned for more information on the EPs.

Norwegian black metal veterans Crest Of Darkness have revealed a track from their upcoming ninth full-length album The God Of Flesh, which is set for release on My Kingdom Music on December 6th.

Crest Of Darkness founder Ingar Amlien has this to say about the  track, which is titled "The Child With No Head": "Here we are, yet another chapter written in the book of Crest Of Darkness, with a track that is probably one of the most violent and extreme we have ever written during  our career. Turn up the fucking volume and you'll be overwhelmed by its sense of loss and total lack of hope."

Although still filled with Crest Of Darkness' trademark Satanic themes, The God Of Flesh marks a change to the feel, variety and depth of the music, showing the band's lineup of Amlien (Conception, Roquefire) on bass and vocals, Rebo on guitars, and Berhard (Pale Forest) on drums, to be as much at home with more progressive and melodic elements, as they are with the aggressive and dark brutal side, for which they are known.  

Amlien recently remarked that The God Of Flesh, which will be the band's ninth full-length album,  was "probably the darkest and most brutal album we've ever made! It's also the most honest work ever from my perspective."

Rising Maltese metal force Align The Tide has shared a pummeling new single titled “Blacklist” from their annihilating new album, Dead Religion, that’s out on October 18th ia Cleopatra Records. 

Commenting on the new single vocalist / guitarist Kyle Farrugia says, “This song speaks of nothing personal, but takes a rather different perspective: the one of a mercenary; a hired gun. Despite it not being inspirational or lacking any emotional meaning to the track, the guitars, drums and vocals turn it up to 11 in terms of rhythm and groove. The crazy energy that we unleash when performing could only describe it profoundly. Blacklist is one of the best songs on the record and is considered as a favourite by many people who have heard us play it live.”  

Align The Tide was formed in Mellieħa, Malta during 2015. After experimentation with different styles and lineups, founding members Danny Dalli (drums / vocals) and Kyle Farrugia (vocals / lead guitar) enlisted Nikki Buttigieg (rhythm guitar) and Gabriel Camilleri (bass) to help round out the band and define the band’s unique amalgam of thrash, groove and melodic metal sound they’ve become known for.

On their record Dead Religion, Align The Tide takes listeners on an introspective journey with dark heavy lyrical themes that will shock and inspire, complemented with monster riffs and thundering drums.

Farrugia adds about the record, “Dead Religion is catchy; it's heavy; it's toe-tapping and enjoyable. Each track has its single thing that distinguishes itself from the other tracks. Annihilator - a name that should not need an introduction in the metal world but, for those who need one: this is a METAL band that started in Canada in late 1984 and since then, Annihilator has been touring and releasing records (selling millions of albums to date), non-stop, for 30 years. From the ‘Stonewall-esque’ track “Psycho Ward” to the haunting “I Am Warfare”, the pissed-off “The Attitude” to the aggression and old-school technicality of “Out With The Garbage”, the record is like this: take the Alice, Neverland and Set The World On Fire records, make them angry, combine the old-school production with modern hi-tech studio gear, then add the best guitar work I didn’t know I still had in me, and you’ve got the best we could possibly offer. I honestly cannot wait for everyone to hear this.”

It takes a long time to reach legendary status, and no one can dispute that Annihilator and Jeff Waters are inspirations, teachers, legends and a force showing what hard work and love of your craft can bring to the world. It’s about the music. Nothing else.

Colorado extreme metal troupe Necropanther will unleash their third full-length on November 15th in both CD and digital format. Pre-orders can be placed now at this location. 

Titled The Doomed City, the fiery 13-track effort pays homage to the sci-fi classic Logan's Run which depicts a utopian future society on the surface where the population and the consumption of resources are maintained in equilibrium by killing everyone who reaches the age of 30.

"We chose Logan's Run as a deliberate challenge to youth culture. Rebellion is not about decadence. Fundamentally, it's about ethical beliefs that undermine authority and power," notes guitarist Joe Johnson. Adds bassist Marcus Corich, "The story of Logan's Run is thematically rich. I think we each found areas of relevance in the story and made those portions our own."

The Doomed City, which serves as the follow-up to Necropanther's 2018, Dune-inspired Eyes Of Blue Light full-length, was recorded at Green Door Recordings with Felipe Patino (NOFX, Rise Against, Casualties) and mixed and mastered at Flatline Audio by Denver's own Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Allegaeon, Primitive Man).

"I feel like we are really reaching our stride in our songwriting and recording process," says vocalist / guitarist Paul Anop of The Doomed City. "The drum performances Haakon [Sjogren] put down are some of the best I've ever heard and working with Dave was great. He had an ear for what we wanted so it went really smoothly."

Chimes Sjogren "This album is unique - every member wrote music and lyrics. It was a very collaborative effort. I think we succeeded in creating a strong album fusing multiple voices and sub-genres."
