The UK Singles Volume One: 1972-1978 presents ELO's early output of hits and b-sides as originally experienced by the band's fans in their native UK. This collector's box set features 15 groundbreaking 45 RPM singles plus 1978's The ELO EP, each fully recreated from their original releases more than four decades ago.

All of the music on The UK Singles Volume One: 1972-1978 was remastered from the analog source tapes while each of the 16 7" vinyl discs in the collection features detailed reproductions of the original sleeves and labels from the 1970s.

Nine of these singles - including "Roll Over Beethoven," "Evil Woman," "Livin' Thing," "Telephone Line" and "Mr. Blue Sky" - reached the Top 10 of the British charts and remain among the world's most enduring classic rock songs. On rock radio and beyond, ELO's hits continue to permeate pop culture. In 2017, "Livin' Thing" was featured in a widely-seen advertisement for Volkswagen while "Mr. Blue Sky" underscored a pivotal scene in the Marvel Studios blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.

Formed in Birmingham, England in 1970, ELO was designed to create progressive modern pop music combining classical and rock elements wrapped in futurist iconography. Jeff Lynne is ELO's guiding light and driving force, writing virtually all of the group's original material while arranging and producing their albums.

From 1972 through 1986, ELO racked up more combined UK and US Top 40 hits than any other band on the planet while selling more than 50 million records worldwide. During the same period, ELO scored twenty Top 20s on the UK Singles Chart and fifteen Top 20s on the US Billboard Hot 100.

A new concert documentary, Jeff Lynne's ELO: Wembley Or Bust will make its U.S. television premiere on Showtime on Friday, July 27th at 9 PM, ET/PT on-air, on demand and over the internet. A celebration of ELO's enduring and ongoing musical legacy, director Paul Dugdale documents Lynne's ELO performance at London's famed Wembley Stadium in front of a sold-out crowd of 60,000 fans in 2017.

On August 3rd, Legacy Recordings will release, for the first time ever on 12" vinyl, Secret Messages, Electric Light Orchestra's tenth studio album, first issued on CD in 1983. The Legacy 35th Anniversary Edition of Secret Messages, available as a 2LP 12" 150 gram vinyl set, presents Jeff Lynne's "eclectic creation" as "originally conceived" with six previously unreleased tracks "all with cutting-edge synthesizers as well as up-front guitar mastery" finally restored to the ELO masterpiece. New UK prog/groove metal band Prognosis have announced the release of their debut LP Definition (September 21st). Bearing comparisons to Mastodon, early Trivium, Gojira and even a touch of Carcass, Definition is an album which belies the quartet’s youth.

Musically, Prognosis have cultivated their own sound on this record, developing their Ghost EP and "Drones" single. Labelled once as “Mastodon playing Carcass”, the band include a host of subtle influences which makes Definition a highly rewarding listen. Beyond groove metal, the band also emulate Dream Theater and Muse, the technicality of Jeff Loomis, and the abrasive elements of Death and beyond. Lyrically, the songs are bound together by a concept which looks at the flawed characteristics that define us as humans, such as selfishness, greed and imperiousness. All combined, the band create music that is at once progressive, grounded, over-the-top and ferocious, and well deserving a listen.

To add to the album, co-guitarist/vocalist Phil Weller has penned a book of short stories expanding on the stories. From a dystopian sci-fi tale of survival and a tragic love story (think Steven Wilson meets Romeo and Juliet) to a King who cons his way into heaven, the multi-genre collection reveals the songs in deeper and different lights. Heavy metal vocalist, songwriter and former Accept/Bonfire frontman David Reece will be releasing his new solo album worldwide through Mighty Music on November 9th. Resilient Heart, an album rich on full blown melodic heavy metal, will be the follow-up to his Compromise album, released in 2013.  

Reece says: “I was searching for a record company that would see my vision as a solo artist so I reached out to Mike Tramp and he suggested I speak with Michael H. Andersen at Mighty Music. Michael teamed me up with the Danish producer and song writing team Marco Angioni and Martin Jepsen Andersen, both from the band Meridian. The collaboration we’re working on is exactly where I want to go musically and Michael H. Andersen and Mighty Music have given me a home to release my new record and given me 100% support and belief in this new record! The album will be recorded at Death Island Studio in Denmark with Marco Angioni as producer and is entitled Resilient Heart."

Resilient Heart is the perfect album for all fans of heavy metal. It's a wide album containing all of the greatest elements within heavy rock and melodic metal. Yet with a modern production.

The first single of the album "Any Time At All" is a wonderful heavy rocker with a touch of Coverdale and Whitesnake inspiration. A song with a powerfull riff, and a strong verse leading up to a bombastic sing-a-long chorus, where a song like "Perfect Apocalypse" stands out with it's progressive Pretty Maids inspired elements.

International dark metal band Karmic Link joins Rockshots Records for a new album release.

"Rockshots Records is thrilled to announce the signing of the international dark metal band Karmic Link, coming back with their third album next fall. The band will mark a new milestone in their career by releasing a new strong record with a top class international line-up coming from Greece, Sweden and USA."

Karmic Link is the international bastard child of Stathis Kassios (ex-keyboard player of Sweden's System Shock and Greece's Nightfall), who decided after a period of extensive recording and live experience to give birth to a surrealistic event inside normal spacetime back in 2006.

Evan Hensley (ex-Nightfall, Dark Hound), hailing from Nashville, Tennessee (USA), joined Karmic Link in 2009, taking up both guitar and bass duties. Kim ''Kimbo'' Gustavsson is the nice Swedish guy behind the drums (and some extra guitars) currently based in Oslo (Norway).

Karmic Link consists of mediterranean energy, dystopian theories, doses of industrial coldness, atmospheric landscapes, progressive spots, instrumental madness, dark pop tunes, electro breakdowns, funky grooves and hard rock pentatonic moments, and have released two albums to date.

The Brutalists are a new rock and roll group featuring founding L.A. Guns member Mick Cripps and London Quireboys founder Nigel Mogg (nephew of UFO singer Phil Mogg). The group is rounded out by guitarist/vocalist Kent Holmes, bassist Robert Cripps and vocalist/drummer Charlie Nice.

The Brutalists' music is a mix of their influences - the dirty, leering blues of pub rock and R&B, the urgency of street punk and the synthesized dance ennui of post-punk, seasoned with bits of ska and reggae. They perform regularly in downtown Los Angeles and throughout California.

The Brutalists signed to Cleopatra Records in November 2017 and will have their self-titled debut album released on August 31st. It will be available on both CD and all streaming platforms, and in a special limited edition vinyl pressing with silk-screened jacket. Pre-order via the links below:

Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER recently entered an undisclosed studio to begin work on material for the follow-up to 2016's "The Astonishing" album. An early 2019 release is expected.

A new two-minute video of DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Mangini completing his drum tracks for the band's new disc can be seen below. He says: "We've finished the drum tracks and I couldn't be happier with them — a great team effort the whole way."

DREAM THEATER vocalist James LaBrie stated about the new material, "There's a heaviness to it, there's an aggression to it," while guitarist John Petrucci added: "So far the music is heavy, it's progressive, it's melodic, it's shredding, and it's also epic. So it has all those elements, which… they are the five pillars of DREAM THEATER, if you wanna call it that."

Petrucci hinted in a recent interview that DREAM THEATER's next album will be musically inspired by the "Images, Words & Beyond" tour, which saw the pioneering group celebrating the 25th anniversary of its milestone RIAA-gold-certified album "Images And Words".

DREAM THEATER's next studio album — its 14th — will be the band's first for Sony Music's progressive imprint InsideOut Music. The group spent the past 25 years recording under various labels in the Warner Music Group system, most recently Roadrunner Records, which released five albums by the band between 2007 and 2016.

Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY are planning to enter the studio in early 2019 to begin writing material for the follow-up to 2016's "Atoma" album.

Speaking to Kaaos TV before the band's July 20 concert at the John Smith Rock Festival in Peurunka, Finland, DARK TRANQUILLITY vocalist Mikael Stanne stated about the group's plans for the coming months: "We're still gonna tour a little bit more. We do this summer, and then we go to America together with AMORPHIS, OMNIUM GATHERUM and MOONSPELL. So that's gonna be a lot of fun. It's gonna be fantastic. I'm really looking forward to that tour. Then we do something in December, I think, and maybe in January. But then, after that, we should get back in the studio and start writing again. We haven't started that kind of process just yet, but we will."

"Atoma" was recorded at Rogue Music in Gothenburg, the studio owned by DARK TRANQUILLITY keyboardist Martin Brändström. Mixing duties were handled by David Castillo, known for his work with bands such as KATATONIA, OPETH and CANDLEMASS. The cover artwork was once again created by the band's guitarist Niklas Sundin.

In early 2017, DARK TRANQUILLITY released a seven-inch single featuring the two songs — "The Absolute" and "Time Out Of Place" — which had previously only been released as bonus tracks of the limited-edition CD version of "Atoma". These cuts are the most experimental and daring numbers ever from the DARK TRANQUILLITY camp, featuring a very different approach to their usual brand of melodic death metal.

Swiss metal masters Samael have announced their new lineup, introducing new bassist Pierre "Zorrac" Carroz.

Earlier this year, Samael announced the departure of longtime guitarist Marco "Makro" Rivao. Bassist Thomas "Drop" Betrisey takes over guitar duties in the new lineup.

On July 14th, 2017, Adrenaline Mob bassist David "Z" Zablidowsky and tour manager Janet "Jane Train" Rains were fatally injured when the band's RV was involved in a collision with a tractor trailer on Interstate 75 near Micanopy, FL. Zablidowsky was killed at the scene, Rains was taken off life support a month later. Guitarist Mike Orlando and vocalist Russell Allen - both of whom were seriously injured in the crash - posted tributes to the pair this past weekend.

Allen, who is also a member of Symphony X and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, spoke with LiveJournal.com in January 2018 about TSO, Paul O'Neill, the Adrenaline Mob ordeal, and returning to the stage. An excerpt from the interview is available below.

Q: Were you looking forward to this tour more than in the past or was there more trepidation for you?

Russell Allen: "Way more trepidation. I almost didn't come. I was very apprehensive. It was just a lot, it was very hard for me. Losing Dave was really hard on all of us, especially...I was there, you know. And having to go through all that this summer was really rough. Rough on me and my family and having to come here and see...and go through all that again, you know, but even more so. Seeing people who he was with for 17 years, you know. I had known Dave for a long time 'cause he actually, him and his brother Paulie, opened up for Symphony X years and years and years ago. I had known David...there's a picture of me and him, my God, he was just a kid, like right when he got into TSO so he had the short hair. I was young too, God, I was so young back then...but anyway, I was really nervous about coming here and you know, I didn't think, I didn't know if I was gonna come back. But my therapist and my doctors were saying, 'This is a good thing for you. You need to go and do this and confront this and go out on this tour and stuff.' 'Cause you know, just getting on the bus was a bit of a deal, an ordeal for me, man. I was just scared man, I was just....the first night, couple of nights on this thing, I just couldn't sleep. And the pyro was a big trigger for me and having to go through a lot of that stuff, you know, it was all baby steps and I got through it. Everybody here is just so awesome and so lovely and nice and I realized that I was surrounded by a lot of love and stuff, but it was hard. I'm so glad that I did it. I'm glad that I'm here. I'm happy that I'm here to, to be here for everyone else too. To carry on Paul's legacy and Dave's as well, so I did the right thing. I'm happy that I came here, but it was tough leaving my kids and my wife and stuff after almost losing everything, you know, just my life, so it's been, it's been a journey the past 6 months to say the least."

Q: Yeah, I can't imagine. So many people who knew Dave and were concerned after the accident, were so encouraged seeing and hearing you at the Rubix Kube show in tribute to Dave, doing "Don't Stop Believin'." How important was that night for you?

Russell Allen: "It was monumental, you know, to be there for Paulie and the family was important and I was so, we were all so heartbroken and I just wanted to be there to show my love and support for Dave and for all the Rubix Kube guys. Getting up there and singing that song, I just poured it all out, you know. And it was the beginning of the healing process for me that night, so that show meant a lot to me to get out there and be a part of that."

Q: The year's show is obviously a tribute to both Dave and Paul. How does that manifest itself for you? Are there some special moments that are particularly poignant?

Russell Allen: "Well, when Kayla sings the tribute to Paul, that's the, THE moment in the show, you know. In "This Christmas Day," Dave's bass, his Spector bass is leaning against the Christmas tree in one of the screens and in Omaha that really got me and stuff. Everybody came out while I was singing and I didn't know it was up there. And I was like, 'What are you guys all looking at?' I'm like, 'I know you're not all out here to watch me.' (laughs). They told me what was going on and that was very emotional. So I have moments, you know what I mean; they come and go and I just, I realize the gravity of the situation and I'm aware of it, but I don't let it overcome me because I gotta get through the performance so I lean heavily on my entertaining skills to get me through all that stuff and everything. But God, I mean we all miss him so much and it's just a reminder of just how short life is and I just take that energy and instead of being sad about it I just rejoice in the fact that I'm still here, we're still here, and we were given this great gift from Paul and Dave's energy that he put into the show every night. And I just wanna make sure I'm honoring those two as best as I can every night by giving everything I have. And that's what I think about. So if I'm out there scatting a little more or singing a little more, that's just because it's coming from a deep place and I just want to make those guys look down on me and the rest of us and be proud and say, you know what, they wouldn't want us sad, they would want us out there kicking ass and killing it every night so, so that's what, that's what my mission is out here. My mission is to honor those, our fallen brothers, and give as much as I can every single night to you guys, to the fans. And so, that's really what it's all about, you know. Life is too short and it should be celebrated. And I think celebrating their lives on this tour has been a great experience for all of us and a reminder of just how fragile it is. And I'm in a different place, I mean I think we all are. So I don't take anything for granted. I really, I really am grateful for the opportunity to even be here at all so you know, that's how I approach it."

Monte comments: "The album Between The Space is a heavy album that gets straight to the point as soon as it starts. The theme is about connection, alignment, and what divides those things. As always when I write, my goal is coming up with the material that fits in my live show. I did everything on these albums. I wrote it all, I played every instrument, I recorded it, and I mixed it. The only thing I didn’t do was the artwork (by Aaron Lea) and mastering (by Alan Douches). It was a challenge having so many tasks. It was a luxury being able to take the time and get everything just how I wanted it. It was a learning experience, and it was a lot of fun making it.

"The album Better Or Worse is an acoustic album but it feels like a heavy album. The theme is about being attached to something or being unattached. It could be an idea or a thought process. The softest part of the album has the heaviest lyrics. It builds instrumentally as the album progresses. I wanted the tone of each track to be a little different from each other. Better Or Worse and Between The Space both mirror each other and they are polar opposites. The idea is to have something there for the people who like my heavy music, something for the people who like my acoustic music, and something for the people who like the variety of both."

"'Evidence' is the opening track off Between The Space," Monte adds. "This is a great introduction to the album. Swedish hard rock outfit Crazy Lixx will reissue their long out-of-print 2007 debut album Loud Minority on October 12th. In addition to the original 11 tracks found on the album, the reissue will also feature seven bonus tracks, including Japanese bonus tracks and early demo versions of track.

Along with the reissue of Loud Minority, reissues of the follow-up albums New Religion (2010) and Riot Avenue (2012) will also be available on October 12th, each with added bonus material.

We were on a small independent label at the time and even though the album was quite successful, peaking at #2 on the Swedish Rock charts, there was never any second pressing. The label ceased to be and we managed to buy out the rights for the album which we've now handed over to Frontiers. We're very pleased to be able to re-release this album a decade after it was originally out and after being unavailable for so long. Of all the requests we get from fans, this album has to be one of the most asked for."

"When we started out in the early 2000's I never thought vinyl would ever be a thing again, but since it has risen in popularity it's become something of a bucket-list thing to get our debut album (and the other ones of course) out on vinyl, so naturally we're very happy to be able to reissue these on vinyl," Rexon concludes.

Milwaukee black metal group Prezir are releasing their first full length album, As Rats Devour Lions, on September 17th on Godz ov War Productions. The follow up to 2017 debut EP Contempt, As Rats Devour Lions delivers a scornful blow to the wasteland of safe metal modernity. A contemptuous rebuke of all extremist ideologies, both present and historical, Prezir epitomizes black metal ferocity (Destroyer 666, Dawn, Emperor) laden with thrash (Megadeth, Slayer) and death metal (Morbid Angel, Immolation, Deicide) influences. This record is a faster, more melodic, and heavier auditory assault than their previous effort. The title track is streaming below.

Ozzy Osbourne had a truck full of ice dropped into his swimming pool during last week's heatwave in Southern California.

According to his wife Sharon, the legendary BLACK SABBATH singer had a "brilliant idea" to order blocks of ice to throw in the family's backyard pool so he could enjoy a refreshing dip after Los Angeles was hit by scorching temperatures a few days ago.

However, the plan apparently backfired, with Sharon posting an Instagram photo of the ice melting in the pool and captioning it: "Ozzy's brilliant idea to cool the pool during last week's heatwave. 3000 lbs of ice = 3 degrees cooler."

Sharon talked about Ozzy's failed attempt during Wednesday's (July 18) episode of her daytime show "The Talk" (see video below).

"When Ozzy went into the pool, there was no heater on, [but] it was boiling hot, and it was boiling hot outside," she recalled. "He goes, 'I can't take this, I need it to be cold.' So he came up with this idea of putting the ice in..."

"It did nothing...!" she exclaimed. "Three degrees lower and Ozzy goes, 'All right, we just gotta get more,' and I'm like, 'No, it doesn't work!'"

Sharon ended up having to put her foot down in order to prevent her husband from trying to have more ice delivered to their home: "I wouldn't let him! These poor guys bringing this ice!" she laughed.

She added that Ozzy's urgency in wanting the water to be cooler was caused by the fact that "he likes to work out, then jump into a cold pool. That's what he likes. And it was, like, you can't do it. So now, we're having a cool thing put on the pool to make the water icy cold."

"I have an excess of guitars that I've gotten over the years — I have more than I could even really play and more than I do play. It would be fun to see these things find a home elsewhere, where somebody's going to actually play them and put scratches on them," said Shiflett. "I'm going to take these twenty guitars and turn them into two guitars. That's kind of my plan."

Among the items that will be for sale in the official Chris Shiflett Reverb shop are:

* A 2002 Gibson Firebird V Reissue in pelham blue that Shiflett purchased around the time the FOO FIGHTERS recorded "One By One", the first album on which Shiflett played. "I grew up just fantasizing about having a Firebird, so I bought this one," Shiflett said of the guitar, which was a go-to for tours during that time. The guitar, which Shiflett modified significantly over the years, can be seen in its original white color in the official video for "All My Life".

* The very first Fender Chris Shiflett signature Telecaster Deluxe prototype sent to Shiflett in the very early stages of the design process. While slightly different from the eventual guitar that came to market, this guitar was similarly modeled after Shiflett's favorite '72 Telecaster Deluxe.

* A 1990s Gibson 61 SG Les Paul Custom Reissue that Shiflett notes is a beautiful guitar that he just doesn't find himself playing much. "I always wanted an Alice Cooper Band SG Custom," he said while discussing the guitar.

* A Gretsch Brian Setzer Signature Black Phoenix that Shiflett purchased in the early 2000s because of his admiration for Brian Setzer and THE STRAY CATS. He "wanted a Gretsch that would be rocking enough for FOO FIGHTERS stuff" and this Brian Setzer-style Gretsch did the trick on tour.

UK thrash metal veterans Onslaught will unveil their new lineup on the main stage at Bloodstock Open Air at Catton Hall in Derbyshire, England on Friday, August 10th.

Longstanding members Nige Rockett (guitar), Sy Keeler (vocals) and Jeff Williams (bass) will be joined by James Perry (drums) and Wayne Dorman (guitar).

Nige Rockett comments: “The band is genuinely sounding more powerful and aggressively focused than ever before!  James has been a great friend of the band for many years and is one hell of a drummer, a complete thrashing machine, so solid and lighting fast. Exactly the same applies to Wayne, he's the perfect fit for the Onslaught, an awesome all round guitarist, his lead playing is full on 'metal', no bullshit, exactly what you would expect to hear in our music! Onslaught announced back in March that drummer Mic Hourihan and guitarist Iain "GT" Davies made the decision to leave the band soon after the last tour finished in order to concentrate on their other bands and projects.

The epic death/black metal formation Bleeding Gods, who recently finished their tour with label mates Belphegor and Melechesh, are sad to announce that they will part ways with their current bass player, Gea Mulder, after their next show at MetalDays 2018 in Slovenia. The split occurs by mutual consent and a new band member will be announced shortly.

Gea states: "With a mix of emotions, I inform you that I will part ways with Bleeding Gods after our upcoming Metaldays show, 22nd of July.

"As not many people know I have been coping with signs of burnout. The decision to quit Bleeding Gods has been one hell of a difficult decision, but I know this is the best thing to do. I have to move forward and so does Bleeding Gods. My years with Bleeding Gods have been a ride with a lot of great memories. I appreciate the chances we have been given; the opportunity to sign with Nuclear Blast and play in Russia, Japan and Europe and our recent shows with Belphegor and Melechesh. It has been a real blast.

"I wish my 'brothers' all the luck and success in the world and hope to see them on the road again. I'm planning to write music again and work for other musicians with my company Guitart. I'd like to say a special thank you to our fans, my friends and family, our crew, Nuclear Blast, the bands we've played with and everyone who supports us around the globe. Hope to see you soon."

His fans have been celebrating his current Zwischen Emscher & Lippe EP since mid-June. Now Ruhr rock icon Onkel Tom has announced the benchmark data of his latest album: Bier Ernst will be out on September 28th and consists of 21tracks on two CDs, titled - in accordance with their lyrical content - respectively Bier and Ernst.

The recording will be available on SPV/Steamhammer on DigiPak double CD, double vinyl LP (Gatefold) and for digital download. As hinted on Zwischen Emscher & Lippe, Onkel Tom aka Tom Angelripper presents himself on Bier Ernst more diverse and autonomous than ever before: Along with rock versions of the popular drinking and party ditties that Onkel Tom and his band are renowned for, Tom and his four comrades-in-arms - drummer Cornelius Rambadt, guitarists Marcel Mönnig and Klaus Nicodem, and bassist Marc Beste - have recorded a dozen original numbers.

Tom reveals what his fans can look forward to: “The title track of our recent EP and eight additional numbers on the Ernst CD present the band from a slightly different perspective.  They’re songs full of passion for music, but of course also full of anger about people’s indifference that’s bound to destroy the world. Florida-based melodic power metal band Artizan is slated to release their new album Demon Rider on August 17th via Pure Steel Records. An official lyric video for "The Hangman" can be found below.

The sensational Demon Rider artwork was illustrated by Berlin based artist Eliran Kantor, who has created numerous masterpieces for the likes of Testament, Iced Earth and Hatebreed.
