MATTHIAS JABS Says 'Eye II Eye' Album Was SCORPIONS' 'Greatest Mistake'

MATTHIAS JABS Says 'Eye II Eye' Album Was SCORPIONS' 'Greatest Mistake'

In a brand new interview with AZCentral.com, SCORPIONS guitarist Matthias Jabs spoke about how his band was afffected by the the early 1990s rise of Seattle's rock scene, which had a stripped-down aesthetic and a complete rejection of the glam metal visual style.

"I would say the '90s in general were tough for all the classic-rock bands, '80s bands, due to alternative rock and grunge," Jabs admitted. "The SCORPIONS were doing quite well in the first half of the '90s with the major success of 'Crazy World' and the next album, 'Face The Heat', and worldwide successful tours. But the second half was a bit tough for us, especially here in the States. We lost ground definitely. The people at the record companies said, 'Ugh, man, forget it. That's old-fashioned. Now we are on to a new trend.' The same way with radio. Everything we had done so far was all of the sudden, 'Blech, you know, forget it. That's past.' The same people say something completely different today, of course. Especially at radio. 'And here are a couple of great tunes from the '80s.' [said in DJ voice] But there was a bit of a tough time and we produced an album that reflects that.

"We were insecure," Jabs said. "The first time ever that the SCORPIONS didn't know exactly what to do. We were listening to producers and record companies, which we had never really done. So we made the greatest mistake of all, to record the album 'Eye II Eye' and go on tour with it. We learned quickly that this is the wrong way. The fans told us. Then we made a comeback.

"Looking back, this was a good mistake because we realized it and we recovered quickly."

Admitting that "Eye II Eye" was SCORPIONS trying to adapt to what was going on, Matthias said: "You can tell by listening to the music. I mean, not completely. There was an influence from the outside that was not within the SCORPIONS DNA, if I can call it that. It wasn't really us. It was us plus all the crap and turmoil going on. Nobody really knew. Nobody had a direction. But everybody was trying to talk to us. [Laughs]"

Despite the fact that the decline in SCORPIONS' popularity was aided by the emergence of grunge, Jabs insists that he enjoyed some of the albums that were released by the leaders of the alternative rock movement. "I always liked NIRVANA's music," he said. "I thought it was new and had a great attraction. What was following wasn't always my cup of tea. But you know, it was a change I could understand also. The glamour rock of the late '80s with the super production and you had more hairspray than fuel in the trucks, it got ridiculous towards the end of the '80s, especially with those L.A. hair bands. The music of value wasn't really there. But the show element repeated itself. And that wasn't really appealing anymore."

Still, according to Jabs, the "greatest music" was written in the '80s. "If you think about bands like JOURNEY, AC/DC, and the great songs, they're still very up to date today and will always be there," he said. "You don't hear that many '90s songs played on acoustic guitar these days around the corner. But it had its right to be there especially because it was a counter move, you know? Against all the glamorous bullshit that happened before."

SCORPIONS kicked off their North American tour with MEGADETH on September 14 at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. The sixteen-date trek, dubbed the "Crazy World Tour", celebrates SCORPIONS' 1990 LP of the same name. Two of the SCORPIONS' best-known songs, "Winds Of Change" and "Send Me An Angel", both appear on "Crazy World".

SCORPIONS have just finished recording a couple of new songs for a forthcoming compilation album that will collect the most popular of their ballad-type material.

Former VENOM Guitarist MANTAS Has No Contact With CRONOS: 'The Bridges Are Firmly Burnt'

Former VENOM Guitarist MANTAS Has No Contact With CRONOS: 'The Bridges Are Firmly Burnt'

In a brand new interview with Metal Chris of DCHeavyMetal.com, VENOM INC. guitarist and founding member of VENOM, Jeffrey "Mantas" Dunn, was asked if he still keeps in touch with VENOM frontman Conrad "Cronos" Lant. He responded: "There's absolutely no contact with that guy whatsoever. The bridges are firmly burnt. Yes, we did receive a couple of lawyers' letters at the beginning and I responded to both of them and we haven't heard anything since.

"The thing is that I'm the founding member of VENOM. [Original VENOM and current VENOM INC. drummer] Abaddon [Anthony Bray] designed and handdrew the original VENOM logo and Cronos was the last person to join, by invitation, and it was my invitation. And when he went out as VENOM in 2005, I think it was when he started [the new version of] VENOM, it was at that point that Cronos had called me regarding the license of an album and I just didn't care. My head was firmly embroiled in family; everything was about my mother at that point. She had cancer and, essentially, she was dying and she passed away in December of that year. And it was during the course of the conversation he asked me if I was okay with him continuing the VENOM name and at that point I said, 'I don't give a shit. I really don't care what happens with the VENOM name.' I wasn't thinking about bands or anything. However, he did not ask Abaddon, and [Abaddon] said, 'Well, if he had asked me, I would have said no immediately. It just needs to be buried.' So that's why I think it's the fans and the promoters and the industry who are turning around now and saying that we [VENOM INC.] are the real VENOM. We've never once said that, unlike Cronos who's trying to stamp that point. I really don't care about that. He can go out there and do what he wants to do with his two hired guns and we'll go out and do what we do.

"Tony Dolan [former VENOM and current VENOM INC. frontman] said, 'Is it not better that you can go and see this guy [Cronos] and then you can come and see us?' And he just plays big festivals. We go into the smaller venues and we're right in your face," he continued. "So I don't think there's any confusion anymore, let's put it that way. People know who he is and what he does and people know who we are and what we do, and that's fine by me. And that's as far as it goes as far as I'm concerned."

VENOM INC.'s debut album, "Avé", was released on August 11 via Nuclear Blast.

VENOM INC. is not to be confused with the Cronos-fronted version of VENOM, which is continuing to tour and make albums under the VENOM moniker. Joining Cronos in that group are Rage (a.k.a. Stuart Dixon) on guitar and Danté (a.k.a. Danny Needham) on drums.

Dunn, Bray and Dolan released three albums as VENOM between 1989 and 1992 — "Prime Evil" (1989), "Temples Of Ice" (1991) and "The Waste Lands" (1992).

The classic lineup of VENOM — Lant, Dunn and Bray — is often credited with kickstarting the whole black metal movement, but is more accurately seen an early example of extreme metal.

VENOM's second album, 1982's "Black Metal", was a major influence on on the early Norwegian black metal scene.

SOUNDGARDEN Drummer On CHRIS CORNELL's Death: 'We're All Still Processing Our Grief'

SOUNDGARDEN Drummer On CHRIS CORNELL's Death: 'We're All Still Processing Our Grief'

Matt Cameron has offered his first public comment on the passing of his bandmate Chris Cornell. The SOUNDGARDEN frontman was found dead on May 18 in his Detroit hotel room. He was 52.

Speaking to Billboard, the drummer said: "I don't think we're ready to say anything other than... Kim [Thayil] and Ben [Shepherd] and I are certainly aware of how much our fans are hurting, and we're certainly hurting right there along with them. But we're extremely private people, and we're all still processing our grief in our own way and on our own time. But we definitely are thinking of our fans and love them very much."

Cornell was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive. SOUNDGARDEN had played a show earlier that evening.

The musician had sedatives and an anxiety drug in his system on the night he died by hanging himself. According to a completed toxicology report released by Michigan's Wayne County Medical Examiner, the drugs didn't contribute to the cause of death.

In addition to SOUNDGARDEN, Cornell sang with AUDIOSLAVE and TEMPLE OF THE DOG, while also recording four solo studio albums and one live set on his own.

Cameron's new solo album titled "Cavedweller", was released on September 22. The disc, which was completed before Cornell's death, features Matt on vocals and guitar, with drums by Mark Guiliana and bass by Tim Lefebvre, both of whom played on David Bowie's "Blackstar".

THE DARK ELEMENT, the new musical project featuring former NIGHTWISH vocalist Anette Olzon and Finnish guitarist and songwriter Jani Liimatainen, will release its self-titled debut album on November 10 via Frontiers Music Srl.

The song "Here's To You" can be streamed below.

Since word of this project got out, fans have been frothing at the mouth with anticipation for its arrival. And no wonder considering the talent involved! Anette is widely known for being the immaculate voice on the hit albums from NIGHTWISH, "Dark Passion Play" and "Imaginareum". Jani has recently been busy in CAIN'S OFFERING alongside STRATOVARIUS singer Timo Kotipelto, but left a deep mark on the minds of all power metal fans thanks to his time in SONATA ARCTICA.

Said Liimatainen: "I have always been a big fan of Anette's voice and when the opportunity to work with her arose, writing and producing an album, it was something I just couldn't say no! It has been a blast working on the songs and I can't wait for everyone to hear the final result. This will be epic! The songs are extremely melodic and to the point. My goal has been to write catchy songs with hooks that will haunt your dreams, and I think it's pretty much 'mission accomplished.' Stay tuned for something special!"

THERION Announces New Rock Opera, 'Beloved Antichrist'

THERION Announces New Rock Opera, 'Beloved Antichrist'

When fifteen-year-old prodigy Christofer Johnsson founded THERION as a death metal band in 1987, little did he know that exactly thirty years later he would put the final touches to a project that will go down in history as symphonic metal's most ambitious release. While "metal operas" are no longer an unusual creation, this term will forever receive a new meaning on January 26, 2018 when the curtain opens for Johnsson's lifelong creation: "Beloved Antichrist" is the title of his spectacular brainchild, consisting of three full-length CDs. It's more than just a concept album, but a complete rock opera with multiple chapters unveiling a sweeping story, partly based on and inspired by Vladimir Solovyov's "A Short Tale Of The Antichrist".

With an incredible total of twenty-nine different roles and characters, who all required a unique voice, THERION hired not only a big choir, but also twenty-nine vocalists to bring the epic story to life. With longtime collaborators like Thomas Vikström, Lori Lewis and Chiara Malvestiti, fans will hear the classical THERION vibe but also be able to drown in a magical maelstrom of many new as well as familiar voices. Divided into several chapters, the opera reaches a full-length of three and a half hours and THERION is currently working on the possibility of bringing the entire production to the stage. And while this monumental undertaking still simmers away in the Swedish production halls, the band has announced a pan-European tour, including U.K. dates, where they will perform some of their new masterpieces live in a classical concert setting. Support comes from Russia's IMPERIAL AGE, Germany's NULL POSITIV and New York symphonic metallers MIDNIGHT ETERNAL.

HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD Gets Its Own Comic Book, 'Undead Origins'

HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD Gets Its Own Comic Book, 'Undead Origins'

It's a very small list of bands that can claim they've had their own comic book published and now HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD can add its name to that list. On December 6, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD will partner with Heavy Metal magazine to star in the group's own comic: "Undead Origins".

Written by Paul Allor, the comic follows HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD's members as they discover a deep conspiracy; all across Los Angeles, people are acting unnaturally happy and compliant. People in the counterculture are suddenly fitting into society, finding square jobs and loving them. Is it clones? Robots? Alien replacements? The crew discovers that in reality, it's a system of mental and physical alteration, funded by a powerful tech mogul-turned City Councilman. And what's more, the "victims" aren't victims at all; they're undergoing the process voluntarily. But our guys won't stand for that. They work to destroy the facility, assisted by like-minded people from across the city.

This fifty-six-page comic ties in with the release of HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD's fifth studio album, "V".

The issue will hit retail shops on December 6. However, fans can order it directly from the band's webstore and receive it around the street date of their new album.

"V" will be released on October 27.

HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD just began a North American tour in support of "V" at the Louder Than Life festival. For all U.S. headline shows, BUTCHER BABIES will serve as direct support. European dates will begin on January 24 in Glasgow at the O2 Academy.

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY: Official Lyric Video For New Song 'Insane'

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY: Official Lyric Video For New Song 'Insane'

The official lyric video for "Insane", a brand new song from CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, the band led by brothers and founding SEPULTURA members Max (also of SOULFLY) and Igor Cavalera, can be seen below.

"Insane" is the opening song on CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's fourth album, "Psychosis", which will be released on November 17 via Napalm Records. The disc, which was produced by longtime friend Arthur Rizk, was recorded primarily at a studio in Phoenix, Arizona.

The cover artwork for "Psychosis" can be seen below.

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Insane02. Terror Tactics03. Impalement Execution04. Spectral War05. Crom06. Hellfire07. Judas Pariah08. Psychosis09. Excruciating

Speaking to Metal Wani's Jake Patton, Max stated about the follow-up to 2014's "Pandemonium": "The album right now is finished. It was produced by Arthur Rizk, our friend and a great producer — an upcoming, underground producer. And he did a great job. I love the record. There are nine songs. We've got one song with Justin [Broadrick] from GODFLESH — just a great NAILBOMB, GODFLESH, CAVALERA kind of song. The rest is all pure thrash madness. And we had it mastered a couple of days ago by Joel Grind from TOXIC HOLOCAUST; he mastered the album. And it's great, man. It's a beast of an album. I think a lot of people are are gonna be surprised when they hear it. It's, for me, the best of all the CAVALERA albums, my favorite one. And it's got the same intensity and energy of the old stuff like [SEPULTURA's] 'Beneath The Remains' and 'Arise'. So a lot of people are gonna be happy to hear that."

Max also talked in more detail about the lyrical themes covered on the new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY disc. He said: "It's a bit… kind of like a mix. There's some stuff about what's going on right now, so there's some terrorist stuff in songs like 'Impalement Execution' and 'Terror Tactics' and 'Excruciating'. And there's some kind of fantasy stuff, like 'Crom', which is the father of Conan. That was a really fun song to make. We have a song called 'Insane' — it's about the state of the world, with Donald Trump and the bombings in England and France. And then, of course, there's an instrumental called 'Psychosis', which is the name of the album, which I think is cool, because I think it also reflects the state of mankind right now, the state of the world right now. It's pretty much psycho — we're living in a psycho age, with madness everywhere we go. The GODFLESH song is called 'Hellfire' — it's about drones. It was inspired by a movie called 'Eye In The Sky' and a movie called 'Good Kill', which is about drones and how people just sit in an air-conditioned office in Nevada and bomb people in Afghanistan and Pakistan with those crazy drones. It was a really cool song built around that, and I really love Justin from GODFLESH's vocals. He sings more in the line of the 'Streetcleaner' vocals from the early GODFLESH, so that came out really nice."

Asked if Max and Igor's recent tour on which they celebrated the twentieth anniversary of SEPULTURA's classic album "Roots" by performing the LP in its entirety influenced the musical content of the new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY material, Max said: "The 'Psychosis' song is very tribal. Some of the recordings were done with Igor in Uganda, in Africa. Igor went there for a thing he did with his wife, like helping people from Uganda, a humanitarian kind of thing. And he recorded a bunch of cool sounds when he was in Africa. So we created this kind of… almost like a voodoo, ambient kind of real tribal… It could have been on [SEPULTURA's] 'Roots'; this song could be on the 'Roots' album. It's got a really great buildup with the drums, and then it has real cool melodic guitars on it — almost like prog rock a little bit. It's kind of like the one 'off' song of the album that really is not like the rest of the record. But it's very cool, it's very tribal and definitely influenced by 'Roots'."

Igor told HeavyMetal.dk that it was "good" for him and Max to have Rizk involved with the new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY album because Arthur "is super passionate about music, the same way we are. So to have someone like him coming in and helping us with ideas and things like that, I think it's gonna surprise a lot of people, 'cause he understands a lot about what's going on today in music, and that's pretty cool — that exchange with us, with the old-school ideas with also someone that understands music right now. I'm far more excited than I've been in many years to put out a record like this. So I have to say I'm quite into it, what we're doing right now."

Max concurred, telling HeavyMetal.dk: "[Arthur] captured the classic Max and Igor in a way that's never really quite been captured before. It was always his objective from the beginning — he wanted to capture the soul of the brothers, and I think he did. I think it's quite amazing, looking back, that somebody can get that out of you after twenty-five years, man. That's awesome. But, like Igor said, there's a lot of noise also — between songs we're gonna hear all this kind of crazy just pure noise and heaviness, which is unheard of. So I'm very excited."

"Pandemonium" sold around 2,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 177 on The Billboard 200 chart.

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's previous CD, 2011's "Blunt Force Trauma" opened with around 5,000 units to land at No. 122.

The band's first CD, 2008's "Inflikted", registered a first-week tally of 9,000 copies to enter the chart at No. 72.

"Pandemonium" was produced by John Gray, who has previously worked with SOULFLY.

STEVEN ADLER Performs GUNS N' ROSES Classics At 'Ultimate Jam Night' (Video)

STEVEN ADLER Performs GUNS N' ROSES Classics At 'Ultimate Jam Night' (Video)

Steven Adler paid tribute to the late King of The Sunset Strip, Mario Maglieri, during Tuesday night's (October 3) "Ultimate Jam Night" at the world-famous Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.

The former GUNS N' ROSES drummer was joined briefly by radio personality Eddie Trunk before playing a four-song GN'R set, starting with "Welcome To The Jungle". Performing with Adler were members of BUDDERSIDE, former ADLER'S APPETITE singer Patrick Stone, guitarist Jacob Bunton, Colin Reid and L.A. GUNS bassist Johnny Martin.

Video footage of the performance can be seen below (by Jessica Chase).

Adler recently said that he "would love to" perform with GUNS N' ROSES again.

The drummer reunited with GN'R for the first time in twenty-six years during the 2016 leg of the "Not In This Lifetime" tour.

Adler appeared with GUNS N' ROSES onstage last November in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as on three separate occasions during the U.S. leg of the "Not In This Lifetime" tour in the summer of 2016.

This marked Adler's first appearance with GUNS N' ROSES since 1990, although he performed with members of the band at their 2012 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Adler was thrown out of GUNS N' ROSES in 1990 due to his heavy drug use, a problem he struggled with for years after his dismissal.

Rather than meticulously plan things out or stick rigidly to any kind of template, when it comes to writing, The Black Dahlia Murder prefer to let things happen organically. In the hands of guitarist Brian Eschbach - who co-founded the band with front-man Trevor Strnad in 2001 - and new recruit Brandon Ellis (Arsis, ex-Cannabis Corpse), Nightbringers is rich with dynamic riffs that are at once fresh and classic The Black Dahlia Murder, resulting in a collection that shifts through many moods and effortlessly incorporates various elements of extreme metal.

While Strnad explores a variety of themes and ideas with his lyrics, they are united by the album's title, which embraces a tenet that has been central to The Black Dahlia Murder's output since the very beginning.

"Death metal and nighttime are synonymous to me," Strnad explains. "We are the rulers of the darkened hours that the Christian good fears. A lot of archaic ideas that are still upheld - such as marriage and monogamy - came from Christianity, whether people want to acknowledge it or not, and to me, death metal has always been bucking that. It's 'being-the-villain music', because we're the enemy of Christianity, the enemy of all that is good and traditional. Death metal is for free thinkers, it's for showing people the path to inner strength and operating on your own will, instead of being told what to do and living in fear, and songs like the title track and 'Kings Of The Nightworld' are about leading a legion of awakened minds into battle."

DAVID GILMOUR Streaming “In Any Tongue” Excerpt From Live At Pompeii Release; Video

DAVID GILMOUR Streaming “In Any Tongue” Excerpt From Live At Pompeii Release; Video

David Gilmour has released an expert of his performance of “In Any Tongue”, featured on the new Live At Pompeii release (out now). Watch below:

45 years after Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour filmed Live At Pompeii in the legendary Roman Amphitheatre there, he returned for two spectacular shows that took place on July 7th and 8th, 2016, part of his year-long tour in support of his #1 album, Rattle That Lock. The performances were the first-ever rock concerts for an audience in the stone Roman amphitheatre, and, for two nights only, the 2,600 strong crowd stood exactly where gladiators would have fought in the first century AD.

David Gilmour Live At Pompeii is an audio experience on its own, while the audio-visual spectacle features lasers, pyrotechnics and a huge circular screen on which specially-created films complement selected songs. Paramount, however, is the incredible music: the show includes songs from throughout David's career, as well as many Pink Floyd classics, including “One Of These Days”, the only song that was also performed at the band’s 1971 show.

Both concerts also saw very special performances of “The Great Gig In The Sky” from The Dark Side Of The Moon, which David rarely plays as a solo artist. The 2-disc concert CD was produced by David Gilmour, and mixed by Andy Jackson and David Gilmour. The 148-minute concert film includes highlights from both shows, filmed in 4k by director Gavin Elder. DVD and Blu-ray versions contain an extra 7-minute documentary by Gavin Elder ‘Pompeii Then And Now’, while the Deluxe Blu-ray 4-disc box contains the 2xCD version, the 1xBlu-ray version, and a full 207 minutes of extra footage: 11 live performances and 5 documentaries, plus bonus collectables. Vinyl lovers can enjoy a deluxe 4xLP version in gatefold sleeves and a hardback slipcase, plus a 24-page photo booklet.

David Gilmour Live At Pompeii shows an artist at the top of his artistic game, performing incredible material with his world-class band, in a unique setting on one very special occasion.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS On New Singer Search: We Have Found 'Somebody That Fits The Bill'

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS On New Singer Search: We Have Found 'Somebody That Fits The Bill'

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have found "somebody that fits the bill" as the band's new lead singer, nearly two years after the passing of original vocalist Scott Weiland and more than two months following the death of Weiland's replacement, Chester Bennington.

STP has been without a vocalist since November 2015, when Bennington — who joined the group in early 2013 — departed to spend more time with his main band LINKIN PARK.

Weiland, who reunited with the group in 2010 after an eight-year hiatus but was dismissed in 2013, died in December 2015 of a drug overdose while on a solo tour.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo spoke about the band's singer search during an appearance on the "Trunk Nation" show on SiriusXM channel Volume (106).

"I think we have somebody that fits the bill," Dean said. "We've been very busy."

Dean added that "there was a lot of criteria to fulfill" before STONE TEMPLE PILOTS could feel confident enough in officially enlisting a new vocalist. "And it was no overnight decision by any means," he said. "We were, first and foremost, patient at times."

Robert revealed that he, Dean and drummer Eric Kretz "had about fifteen thousand people to audition through. Literally, Dean and Eric and I went through fifteen thousand, twenty thousand people — twice."

Asked if they are already working on fresh music with the new STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer, Robert said: "Yes. Like Dean said, there's a lot of criteria here; there's many steps. And it's not the kind of thing where we're trying to replace… You can't replace Scott Weiland — you just can't — but there's things that naturally have to be there: songwriting, can he sing? Performing… all these things. It takes a while; you can't just make a decision like that."

"It's a lot to ask of someone to be able to respect the catalog vocally and move forward with new material — it's a lot to ask of someone," he explained.

"And also, is this a person that we want around our kids?" Dean added. "Is this a person that wants to be around me? [Laughs] That's why it's taking so long.

"We're pretty excited. We feel like we're sitting on the goose that lays the golden egg, man."

Pressed about whether their hesitation to make an announcement about STP's new lead singer was due to the fact that they are still trying to make sure he is the right guy for the job, Dean responded: "No. It's just a timing thing."

STP last performed live, with Bennington on vocals, for a one-off reunion performance in California in March 2016.

The band held an open call for singers last year, reportedly receiving thousands of submissions and narrowing that down to a handful of prospects with whom the group members got together to jam.

Two of the names that have been widely circulated among fans are one-time "X Factor" contestant Jeff Gutt and Filipino vocalist John Borja. Gutt reportedly rehearsed with the group last May, while Borja recently applied for a U.S. work visa and has hinted at joining the band.

The DeLeo brothers are currently promoting the twenty-fifth anniversary expanded reissue of STP's debut album, "Core", which arrived last Friday (September 29) — twenty-five years to the day of the LP's original release.

FRAGILE MORTALS Feat. Ex-EXODUS Frontman ROB DUKES, DARRYL 'DMC' MCDANIELS: More 'The Dark Project' Album Details

FRAGILE MORTALS Feat. Ex-EXODUS Frontman ROB DUKES, DARRYL 'DMC' MCDANIELS: More 'The Dark Project' Album Details

FRAGILE MORTALS, the new band that combines hip-hop legend Darryl "DMC" McDaniels (RUN-D.M.C.) with the metal group GENERATION KILL — featuring vocalist Rob Dukes (ex-EXODUS) and bassist Rob Moschetti (ex-PRO-PAIN, M.O.D.) — will release its debut album, "The Dark Project", on October 13 on Digital Launch via Entertainment One Music. It was produced by Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-GUNS N' ROSES, SONS OF APOLLO), who also loaned his musical talents to the full-length album, adding additional guitars, backing vocals, and a string quartet to round out and complete this original, diverse, experimental mash-up of many musical styles.

With members of the legendary hip-hop and metal powerhouses, FRAGILE MORTALS isn't just another supergroup. This new band offers the listener an intellectual look into real world issues, as the music takes you on a journey, serving as the soundtrack to this all too real story.

"Having been the first hip-hop group to collaborate with a rock band with AEROSMITH and 'Walk This Way', this genre has always been special to me," says McDaniels. "Collaborating with two musical geniuses in Moschetti and Bumblefoot, and a great frontman like Dukes, makes FRAGILE MORTALS everything I hoped for."

While combining the rap style vocals of DMC and the raw power of Rob Dukes and GENERATION KILL, "The Dark Project" is not your typical rap rock, or rap metal project. It pushes the limits lyrically and musically, and challenges the listener to rethink what real art is. Each member is encouraged to present his musical influences without restriction or ridicule, making it a representation of the truest freedom of artistic expression. It's also an album that must be listened to from beginning to end, to understand and fully appreciate the listening experience.

Stemming from a chance meeting between Dukes and DMC, an initial one-track collaboration for a DMC solo album turned into a full-on force, as FRAGILE MORTALS was born. The band then recruited the ear of Bumblefoot as producer, and their combined creative vision has allowed the band to grow further than expected. Lending the occasional guitar riff and solo to the tracks, his contributions earned him the title of unofficial seventh member.

Addressing issues ranging from suicide, drug abuse, prostitution, life and death, and racism, "The Dark Project" also offers a glimmer of hope and light at the end of a gritty tunnel, exposing the darker side of humanity without glorifying it in any way.

"The Dark Project" track listing:

01. Whispers Of Death02. The Big Lie03. Bitch04. Underneath The Skin05. Lot Lizard06. Suicide07. Fired Up!08. Bad Man09. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)

JUDAS PRIEST, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, BON JOVI Among Nominees For ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction

JUDAS PRIEST, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, BON JOVI Among Nominees For ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction

JUDAS PRIEST, BON JOVI, MC5 and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE are among the nineteen artists newly nominated for possible induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The top vote-getters will will be announced in December and inducted next April at a ceremony in Ohio.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least twenty-five years prior to the year of nomination. The 2018 nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1992.

The complete list of nominees (with first-timers noted with an asterisk):

BON JOVIKATE BUSH*THE CARSDEPECHE MODEDIRE STRAITS*EURYTHMICS*J. GEILS BANDJUDAS PRIEST*LL COOL JMC5THE METERSMOODY BLUES*RADIOHEAD*RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE*RUFUS FEATURING CHAKA KHANNINA SIMONE*SISTER ROSETTA THARPE*LINK WRAYTHE ZOMBIES

According to a press release, the Hall will again offer fans the opportunity to officially participate in the induction selection process. Beginning October 5 and continuing through 11:59 p.m. EST on December 5, 2017, fans can visit rockhall.com/vote to cast votes for the artists they believe to be most deserving of induction. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2018 inductees. Fans will need to login with a Facebook account or email to vote. Voting is capped at one ballot per day.

Ballots will be sent to an international voting body of more than nine hundred artists, historians and members of the music industry. Factors such as an artist's musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2018 ceremony will be held at Public Auditorium in Cleveland on April 14, 2018. HBO will once again broadcast the ceremony.

During a February 2017 appearance on "Trunk Nation", Eddie Trunk's show on SiriusXM channel Volume (106), Rob Halford was asked if he is bothered by the fact that JUDAS PRIEST has yet to be inducted inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. He responded: "Well, I've always likened the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame to, like, the NFL or the NBA or baseball. It's recognition, you know, and it's wonderful when you get these kinds of opportunities. So I, for one, would welcome it. I think we deserve it. [Laughs] But, yeah, I'm thrilled that [DEEP] PURPLE have got their acclamation as well. And I see that — 'cause, you know, I try and stay ahead on the news — I see they're going out with Alice [Cooper] and THE EDGAR WINTER BAND later this year. That will be a thrill to go and check out."

Halford's comments echoed those he made in June 2016 to the KBAD 94.5 FM radio station in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He stated at the time: "The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, you know, is a controversial entity. It's not like the Baseball Hall Of Fame or the NFL Hall Of Fame. Those incredible institutions have very little kind of discourse going on in them, but because music — much like sports — is very passionate, and because I think the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has been getting more diverse now, which I think it should. You know, because a musician is a musician is a musician, and, again, if you've been able to make an indelible mark with what you do, to be recognized for that, I think, is a great honor. And if and when that day comes, I think that will be a real treat."

Speaking to Hour.ca in a 2010 interview, Halford was asked if he thinks the fact that PRIEST has thus far been snubbed by the Rock Hall has something to do with the fact that he is still one of the rare openly gay superstars in all of show business.

"I don't know, let's have a think: Who in there is gay?" Halford asked rhetorically. "It's a good question. I consider myself a lower-case gay, not screaming like my good friend [porn director and drag queen] Chi Chi LaRue. I love all my friends in the community and if the moment came [for being inducted into the Rock Hall], it would be a tremendous moment not just for the band and our fans, but for the whole LGBT community."

JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Glenn Tipton seemed to take a slightly more indifferent stance toward the idea of the band being inducted into the Rock Hall, telling Classic Rock Revisited a few years ago: "I don't know if we will ever be invited to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame or not. If we do, it will certainly be a privilege and it will be something we will be proud of. If we don't, then it is not going to change our lives. Our legacy is in our music. We will leave our music for everybody and I think that's good enough. You don't always need an accolade to leave a legacy."

Despite being eligible for induction since 1999 — twenty-five years after the release of its first disc — KISS didn't get its first nomination until 2009, and was finally inducted in 2014.

DEEP PURPLE was eligible for the Rock Hall since 1993 but didn't get inducted until last year.

Watch VOIVOD Perform In Zagreb, Croatia

Watch VOIVOD Perform In Zagreb, Croatia

Fan-filmed video footage of VOIVOD's October 3 performance at the Vintage Industrial Bar in Zagreb, Croatia can be seen below.

VOIVOD released another strictly limited seven-inch EP via Century Media Records on September 29.

Completing the vinyl release of the five songs featured on the "Post Society" mini-album, "Silver Machine" includes the HAWKWIND cover version that serves as the EP's title track as well as the song "Post Society".

The "Post Society" EP was issued in February 2016 via Century Media. It was the follow-up to 2013's "Target Earth", which marked VOIVOD's first album of new material written without original guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour's leftover riffs.

Langevin told Metal Wani about the musical direction of the next VOIVOD album: "It's like in the vein of [the] 'Post Society' [EP]. So far, most of the songs are very long and progressive. We want to write a couple of short rockers to have a good blend, but so far, it's very intricate and progressive thrash metal with a bit of punk, as usual. It's still VOIVOD, it's a newer VOIVOD, but I think the spirit is intact… I mean, there are elements of all the periods, for sure, and it sounds like the 'Dimension Hatröss' era, but it's a new thing. [Bassist] Rocky [Dominique Laroche] and [guitarist] Chewy [Daniel Mongrain], they have their own way of approaching the music. They are really tight, surgical, so it makes me play differently. The thrash metal roots will always be there, except that we like to go into prog rock and psychedelia as well."

DECAPITATED Members Extradited To Spokane After Being Accused Of Rape, Kidnapping

DECAPITATED Members Extradited To Spokane After Being Accused Of Rape, Kidnapping

According to The Spokesman-Review, two members of the Polish death metal band DECAPITATED are being extradited to Spokane, Washington to face accusations of kidnap and rape after a concert in August.

DECAPITATED's 27-year-old drummer Michal Lysejko and 35-year-old guitarist Waclaw Kieltyka were transported Monday night from a jail in Los Angeles County en route to Spokane County, said Steven Graham, Lysejko's attorney. The other two members, 31-year-old singer Rafal Piotrowski and 30-year-old bassist Hubert Wiecek will be transported at a later date.

According to court documents obtained by The Spokesman-Review, the woman alleged she was gang-raped by the musicians in their tour bus bathroom after DECAPITATED's August 31 concert with THY ART IS MURDER at The Pin concert venue in downtown Spokane as part of the two bands' "Double Homicide" tour. The woman said entered the bus for drinks with the band before each member forced themselves on her.

Deputies later stated the victim had "significant bruising to her upper arms consistent with being restrained" and "small abrasions on her knuckles that were scabbed over."

All four members of DECAPITATED were arrested on September 9 in Santa Ana, California after performing at the Observatory. They have been held in Los Angeles County Jail awaiting extradition to Spokane.

Graham told The Spokesman-Review that there is "another side to this."

"We have witnesses that can testify to the fact that the accuser came to visit the band of her own free will and left on good terms," he said. "The accuser has a documented history of providing false information to the police dating back to 2014."

DECAPITATED announced last month that it was canceling all previously announced tour dates. The band also publicly denied the accusations.

"While we are not perfect human beings, we are not kidnappers, rapists, or criminals. As such, we strongly deny the allegations that have recently been brought against us," they wrote. "We ask that everyone please reserve their judgment until a definitive outcome has been reached, as charges have yet to be pressed. Full testimony and evidence will be presented in due time, and we have faith in that process."

PSY:CODE Release “Paralyzed” Official Video

PSY:CODE Release “Paralyzed” Official Video

Copenhagen-based modern hardcore group Psy:Code have released the official video for "Paralyzed," a track from new album MØRKE.

The band issued the following statement about the video: "We've chosen not to appear in this video, but to keep focus on the emotions that fit the song perfectly. With this amount of videos, it is important for us that they are very different. The video is made from the short film 'Unwind' which has been cut to pieces, and assembled to fit the track. The song is about a dear friend who we almost lost due to a critical surgery. We hope you enjoy this short emotional ride."

Psy:code is a band driven by a desire to reach beyond its own boundaries. The band's first two releases, Delusion and Cause and Neglect, were met with critical acclaim by critics worldwide. The praise was not met with complacency and Psy:code set the bar higher when writing their third album.

SATYRICON Frontman Hopes To Complete Long-In-The-Works Covers Album Next Year

SATYRICON Frontman Hopes To Complete Long-In-The-Works Covers Album Next Year

SATYRICON frontman Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven says that the band is hoping to complete its long-in-the-works covers album sometime next year.

The Norwegian black metal band was originally going to release the covers disc prior to the arrival of its latest collection of all-new material, "Deep Calleth Upon Deep", but unforeseen events, including Satyr's brain-tumor diagnosis in 2015, resulted in a change of plans.

"It's something that we've been playing around with for the last three or four years in between other things, and hopefully we’ll have time to pursue that next year at some point," Satyr told Australia's Heavy. "When we eventually do it, it is going to be called 'Formative Oddities', and the reason for that is because that's exactly what it is going to be about. It's gonna be about stuff that helped shape our musical taste, but I don't wanna do something overly obvious like putting covers of VENOM and BLACK SABBATH in there. There's gonna be some folk music; there's gonna be some classic hard rock, some punk rock and perhaps also we'll try to do some versions of electronica things that are not within the category of typical extreme metal or all of the obvious ones."

In a separate interview with RockSverige.se, Satyr confirmed that DEAD KENNEDYS' "Holiday In Cambodia" is one of the songs SATYRICON will be tackling on "Formative Oddities". He also explained in greater detail why recording covers of VENOM and BATHORY isn't something he is interested in pursuing.

"The way I would phrase it is that one can assume we've been listening to BATHORY and so on, but what has also made an impact on me as a music lover and as an artist is traditional folk music, some electronica, classical music, punk rock, classic rock and hard rock, and hence the title 'Formative Oddities'. Things that helped shape us musically as music fans and as professional, but not necessarily the obvious ones."

Satyr said that he initially thought SATYRICON would record "Formative Oddities" prior to the making of "Deep Calleth Upon Deep". But then "all these things happened in my life and everything changed, and I said, 'Okay, guys, now there's so much crazy stuff going on and I can't do all of this.' So I did my own stuff and we can't pick up work on the record now because we're gonna tour for a year, and once we have toured a year, then I don't know what we're gonna feel. Do we want to do nothing for a while or do we head straight into a new album? Do we never want to do this again or would we like to pick up where we left off on 'Formative Oddities'?"

"Deep Calleth Upon Deep" was released on September 22 via Napalm Records. The disc was recorded in Oslo, Norway and Vancouver, Canada, during early 2017 and mixed together with revered studio guru Mike Fraser (who previously worked on SATYRICON's 2006 album, "Now, Diabolical").

The "Deep Calleth Upon Deep" front cover is an obscure drawing from 1898 by perhaps the greatest Norwegian artist of all time, Edvard Munch.

DEFTONES Singer Wants More Guitar On Next Record

DEFTONES Singer Wants More Guitar On Next Record

According to The Pulse Of Radio, DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno told Revolver in a new interview that the band is thinking of starting to write music for its ninth studio album, saying: "We might start writing music. I'm thinking of going in the next couple months and staying with Stephen [Carpenter, guitarist] for a few days... Trying to think of different ways of writing music from scratch."

Moreno continued: "On our last record, [Carpenter] didn't have as much to do with the writing process as I would have liked for him to have. The idea this time is to just go hang out with him for a couple weeks at his house and just record him playing guitar, take some of the riffs, whatever he makes, organize stuff."

Moreno called Carpenter's guitar playing "one of the most — if not the most important part — of DEFTONES, what we do."

Carpenter admitted last year in an interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com that he "didn't want to play" on the band's last record, 2016's "Gore", saying, "It wasn't the style or the sound I was hoping we would take. It wasn't what I was expecting or wanting."

Moreno described Carpenter around the same time as the "odd man out" while the band recorded "Gore", although he added that it "wasn't our intention to exclude him."

Carpenter, however, dismissed speculation at the time that he would leave the band, which toured for more than a year in support of "Gore".

BUTCHER BABIES' CARLA HARVEY Says Gun Control And Mental Illness Aren't Sufficiently Dealt With In U.S.

BUTCHER BABIES' CARLA HARVEY Says Gun Control And Mental Illness Aren't Sufficiently Dealt With In U.S.

The rock world reacted in horror to the tragic events that occurred in Las Vegas on Sunday night (October 1), when a 64-year-old white male named Stephen Paddock opened fire from the thirty-second floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on thousands of people attending an outdoor concert in a nearby parking lot. At press time, fifty-eight people had been killed and more than five hundred wounded, with Paddock reportedly taking his own life before a SWAT team burst into his hotel room.

Speaking to "The Roman Show", BUTCHER BABIES singer Carla Harvey offered her views on the incident, saying (see video below): "Obviously, it's horrible. But this has been going on for years now, and all over the world, it's been going on forever — acts of terrorism. Any act like that, to me, is an act of terrorism, whether it's Muslim [or] whatever. Obviously, this is one sick person that wanted to leave his mark in a very horrific way.

"I think that mental illness is something that we don't deal with enough in this country," she continued. "Gun control is something that we don't deal with enough. But everybody has their own opinion; I don't really wanna get political about it in an interview, because we all have different opinions on stuff."

Police have yet to determine a motive for Paddock's killing spree. He reportedly had as many as nineteen guns with him in his hotel room, while more weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition were found at one of his two Nevada homes.

Jason Aldean was performing at the three-day Route 91 Harvest country music festival across Las Vegas Boulevard from the Mandalay Bay when the shooting erupted.

BUTCHER BABIES' third album, "Lilith", will be released on October 27 via Century Media. The follow-up to 2015's "Take It Like A Man" was produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SEPULTURA, SUICIDE SILENCE) and marks the band's recording debut with new drummer, Chase Brickenden, who replaced Chris Warner last year.

PHILIP ANSELMO Announces EN MINOR Project, Influenced By THE CURE And SISTERS OF MERCY

PHILIP ANSELMO Announces EN MINOR Project, Influenced By THE CURE And SISTERS OF MERCY

Former PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo has announced the formation of a new project called EN MINOR. The band, which is influenced by the classic goth period of the '80s with artists like THE CURE and SISTERS OF MERCY, will release its long-completed debut album in early 2018 via Anselmo's Housecore Records.

Anselmo, who is currently on the road with SUPERJOINT, spoke about EN MINOR's upcoming disc during an interview with Jimmy Cabbs's "5150" interview series, conducted before the former group's September 27 concert at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.

"I have a record coming out that's been finished for two years almost now, of course — just like every other fucking record," Anselmo said (see video below). "It's with a band called EN MINOR. And I guess it would be my, 'Hello, great dark eighties of SISTERS OF MERCY, of THE CURE 'Seventeen Seconds' record and 'Faith' album.' Early THE CURE. Early U2. Nick Cave and the fucking BAD SEEDS or THE BIRTHDAY PARTY. David Bowie… I take all these influences and then somehow we came out with results.

"It is what it is," he continued. "I'll let the people decide at the end of the day. And we'll see. But, once again, I'm not shootin' for radio time here; I'm just trying to broaden my horizons, write some harkening songs. But I think they have their own life, honestly. It's retro only to a certain degree, I think, within me, because I know where it's coming from. But I guess when a listener hears it these days, most people react… I hear the word 'cinematic' a lot, and I hear, 'This is the best record you've done in thirty years,' or some shit like that, something like that."

According to Anselmo, EN MINOR is one of several projects he is currently shuffling, with a number of recordings scheduled to be made available over the coming months.

"I do have other releases [coming out] before [EN MINOR], and that is the new SCOUR [EP] has been finished for about a year. So that's coming out. The next [PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE] ILLEGALS is coming out, and that's a whole different kettle of fish from the first ILLEGALS. And then the EN MINOR is coming out. So I'm thinking maybe March of next year."

Philip also talked about the freedom he has as an artist to release many different types of albums through Housecore, his independent record label specializing in heavy music by a number of handpicked bands as well as his own projects.

"Having a record label right now is a money pit, of course — it's a labor of love," he explained. "People don't buy records anymore; they steal them, and they're used to stealing them. And I'll tell you what: if the laws were passed correctly tomorrow, making it absolutely shut-down fucking illegal — you have to purchase music — there would be a generation of kids who were pissed about it. You know it — because they're so coddled into it now, because of their little devices and machines and whatnot.

"I would love to personally sue the Internet for ruining the music business," he continued. "But at the same time, if I can give back in any way, shape or form and leave a dent with one of my bands, or one of the bands on Housecore Records, that'll feel good. And I think maybe long after you and I have bitten the dirt, maybe, just maybe, there'll be a little time capsule carved out, a bas-relief, that said, 'Here lies Housecore Records, and they still owe you nothing.'"

SUPERJOINT kicked off its U.S. tour with DEVILDRIVER on September 23 in Austin, Texas. The trek is hitting two dozen venues across the country, including this year's edition of Rock 'N' Shock in Worcester, Massachusetts. Additional support is being provided by Housecore labelmates CHILD BITE and KING PARROT as well as CANE HILL.
