New Song Premiere: GLENN HUGHES's 'Let It Shine'"Let It Shine", a brand new song from Glenn Hughes, can be streamed below. The track is taken from Hughes's new solo album, "Resonate", which will be released on Friday, November 4 via Frontiers Music Srl.
From album opener "Heavy" to the very last chords of the closer "Long Time Gone", "Resonate" promises to be a contender for "Album Of The Year" on many a list. It features his live solo band members, Søren Andersen (guitars and co-producer), Pontus Engborg (drums) and newcomer to his band, Lachy Doley (keyboards), in addition to longtime friend Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), who joined them in the studio for the opening and closing numbers.
An EPK (Electronic Press Kit) for the album is available below.
"Resonate" will be available in two configurations: regular CD and deluxe edition including one bonus track, "Nothing's The Same", and a DVD featuring a "making of" album documentary, "Heavy" (music video), and "Long Time Gone" (music video). Vinyl release will be made available via Frontiers's label partners Soulfood Music.
"Resonate" track listing:
01. Heavy02. My Town03. Flow04. Let It Shine05. Steady06. God Of Money07. How Long08. When I Fall09. Landmines10. Stumble & Go11. Long Time Gone12. Nothing's The Same (deluxe edition bonus track)
Glenn told Billboard.com about "Resonate": "It's possibly the heaviest record I've ever made. I don't want to confuse it with horns-up heavy; it's not metal. But it's definitely fucking heavy. It's dense. It's dark. There's some aggression on this record. Every bloody track is begging to be played live."
While he was in the studio recording his new album, Hughes talked to Denmark's Metalized magazine about the musical diversity that has been his trademark throughout his four-decade-plus career.
"I never make the same album twice," he said. "Go back to the first TRAPEZE album. The second was different and the third one was different. And then you go to 'Burn', and 'Stormbringer' was different from that, and then 'Come Taste The Band'. You got HUGHES/THRALL and that was different from DEEP PURPLE. And then you go to 'Seventh Star' with Tony Iommi. That was different from HUGHES/THRALL. And then the blues album and then the Glenn solo albums."
He continued: "Although some of [my albums] have been very, very soulful and very, very funky, the key for me — as I am an Englishman that grew up in the West Midlands — is rock. But when I moved to America in the early seventies, I started to listen to what came out of Detroit. And I met Stevie Wonder. He became a very, very close friend and still is. He became my mentor.
"I need people to know that my success has come from the foundation of rock music. As much as I love THE BEATLES, Otis Redding and Stevie Wonder, when you think of Glenn Hughes, you think of the guy who plays bass and sings in any register."
Hughes added: "I am friends with a lot of famous rock stars and they are one genre. I wouldn't say who, but they have a one-genre-dimensional sound. You know it's them. And you know it's me because of my voice.
"I have been cursed and blessed with the ability to switch very quickly from rock to soul to funk to acoustic and almost into jazz — without scaring people. When you mix those ingredients, that's Glenn Hughes.
"This will be an album that is entirely Glenn Hughes music. For that reason, it is an important album." 10

DEEP PURPLE: Limited-Edition Deluxe Photo Book 'For One Night Only' Due In DecemberDEEP PURPLE's reunion in 1984 was a dream come true for its legions of fans: Particularly as it reunited the classic lineup that had split in 1973. Following the release of the comeback album "Perfect Strangers", they embarked on a nine-month world tour, kicking off in Australia in November '84 and working its way around the globe, taking in North America and Japan before the band reached Europe in June 1985.
PURPLE played four sold-out shows in Sweden, two large festivals in Germany, three gigs in France and many more around the continent. Yet in their homeland fans had to settle for just one open-air concert at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire on June 22. It was the wettest June day since records began but for the 75,000 who attended, it was an experience to savor, with many too young to have seen PURPLE in the seventies witnessing them for the first time.
Due on December 9 via Wymer Publishing, "For One Night Only" is a celebration of that day, based around the huge number of previously unpublished photos of the event, including images from Pete Still and George Bodnar whose photos were used on the official "In The Absence Of Pink" album release.
According to Sounds photographer Tony Mottram, who had braved the weather all day, just prior to PURPLE taking the stage, they were all moved from the press pit. Fortunately it didn't deter the photographers too much and while some took photos from further back, Alan Perry had wormed his way into the front of the crowd to take his shots. Mick Gregory, however, was fortunate enough to be allowed to stand on Jon Lord's side of the stage and his photos offer a different perspective.
"For One Night Only" also looks at the build up and the aftermath with the story told by PURPLE aficionado Jerry Bloom. Drawing on interviews and memories from the band and crew, it also includes personal recollections from the photographers, the band, the fans and much more.
This hardback 128-page book is a strictly limited edition of 300. Each one is individually numbered and signed by the author. It is housed in a sturdy flight case and includes four A4 frameable prints reproduced on quality 400gsm premium board.
As if that wasn't enough, all purchasers can enter a competition to list all the DEEP PURPLE song titles that can be found in the introductory chapter of the text. The first three successful entrants will win a 50% refund on the book price!
Orders are being taken for delivery upon publication. 9

Video: Reunited Classic Lineup Of DOKKEN Performs At Japan's LOUD PARK FestivalFan-filmed video footage of the reunited classic lineup of DOKKEN — singer Don Dokken, guitarist George Lynch, bassist Jeff Pilson and drummer "Wild" Mick Brown — performing on October 8 at the Loud Park festival in Tokyo, Japan can be seen below.
DOKKEN's classic lineup played its only U.S. show on September 30 at Badlands Pawn Guns Gold And Rock 'N' Roll in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The concert was a warm-up gig for the band's six-show Japanese run dubbed "Unleashed In The East".
Although DOKKEN had originally intended to perform a brand new song at the Badlands Pawn Guns Gold And Rock 'N' Roll concert — with plans to include it on the band's upcoming DVD — those plans were eventually abandoned. "There's a couple of reasons for that," Pilson told the KBAD 94.5 FM radio station prior to the gig. "For one thing, it's not finished. But the music is done, and the music is great. It's a rocker. It's great. I mean, it really came out fabulous.
"George and I had done some music several weeks ago, and we sent it to Don, and Don said, 'Why don't you guys speed it up? Wanna try speeding it up?' So we did, and we all loved it. And we really do all love it, which is kind of hard in itself. So that was great. Anyway, then [Don] started writing some lyrics for it, and he sang me some stuff over the phone. It sounds like it's gonna be really good. But because it's not done, we're probably not gonna play it at these shows or in Japan. But we are filming, as you must know — we're filming on Friday — and we're gonna be recording a live DVD and live CD. So the plan is to go in the studio and finish the track and have it as a studio bonus on the live DVD — a new DOKKEN track."
Pilson told Ultimate Classic Rock in a separate interview that the new DOKKEN song was "very DOKKEN-sounding. It's very tricky to try and come up with something that sounds authentic but sounds sincere, and I think we did it. We kind of just let all go and let our inhibitions fly and it came out."
Don also revealed another reason for why the new DOKKEN track wasn't completed in time for the Sioux Falls show. "I've been super-busy and I've been trying to write lyrics," he explained. "The song really hasn't spoken to me as much, so I let Mick take a crack at it. Mick wrote an entire lyric and the whole song and it's really good, but it's too high. It's just out of everybody's range. So that needs to be taken into consideration. I think it was written in the wrong key for me. You'd have to either sing really low, and it wouldn't sound good, or like super-high, and I'm stuck in the middle. Jeff and I are going to try to get together." He added: "I've got some alternative ideas that I think might be even better [for the new song], like more of an anthemic up-tempo 'Paris Is Burning' kind of song. It's not going to be hard; Jeff and I are kind of on the same page — we were cut from the same cloth as far as our likes, BEATLES, THE HOLLIES."
Dokken, Pilson, Lynch and Brown launched the Japanese tour on October 5 in Osaka, before heading to Fukuoka, Tokyo for an appearance at the Loud Park festival and continuing on to Hiroshima, Aichi and finally, back to Tokyo for the final show on October 12.
While offers from tours to festivals have been pouring in since the reunion shows were announced, Don is adamant that the upcoming shows will be it for the band.
"My manager is getting hit up every day for pretty large sums of money to play festivals next summer, all over the world. But I had to say no," he explained to Billboard. "I love the band I have now; We've been together for 13 years, and I don't want to hurt that franchise. Plus if we were to continue with [the classic] lineup, old wounds might be opened, and I don't want to revisit that. I don't think any of us wants to. It's all great when a marriage fails and you say, 'I'm gonna get back with my ex' — for a week, maybe. Six months into it, the wounds come back. I don't want to experience that. It's just not part of my life anymore, and I think the other guys feel the same way. So this will be enough." 2

Video: JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE Performs At Whisky A Go GoVideo footage of JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE — which features ex-GREAT WHITE singer Jack Russell alongside former GREAT WHITE bassist-turned-guitarist Tony Montana (as a guitar player and keyboardist), Dan McNay (MONTROSE) on bass, Robby Lochner (FIGHT) on guitar and Dicki Fliszar (BRUCE DICKINSON) on drums — performing the GREAT WHITE classic "Save Your Love" on September 29 at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California can be seen below.
Speaking about what goals he has left to achieve, Jack recently told the KBAD 94.5 FM radio station in Sioux Falls, South Dakota: "Ninety-nine percent of my dreams have happened. I've got one more, and that is to be more successful than I've been. I never felt like I got to that. I feel like I got to the plateau, but never went where I should have gone."
Jack also spoke about JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE's forthcoming debut album, "The Gauntlet", which will released in January/February via Frontiers Music Srl. He said: "I believe this new album, even as bad as the music scene is, [it's] the best album I've ever done, [the best] songs I've ever written," Jack said. "Robby and I, there was just a magic about the chemistry, and I thought after writing with somebody for thirty-something years, 'I hope I can find that again,' you know? It's just an outstanding record."
Regarding the lyrical themes covered on "The Gauntlet", Jack said: "I like to write about my life, and most of the songs on every record have been about my life, [but on] this one more directly. I've talked about addiction in minor ways, and I've talked about heartbreak, and I've talked about love. But this album, we talk about stuff I've never written about. And when we go to talking about love, we talk about it from a different aspect than I ever have. And since I have a true love now in my life, I actually can write songs and not have to just fake the wife out by going, 'Oh, yeah, of course that's for you.' That's been, like, for three wives already. 'No, I never told her that. That's a lie.'"
In 2014, JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE gave fans a taste of new music with the release of the single "Hard Habit" which received rave reviews from fans clamoring for the "classic" early sound of GREAT WHITE.
JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE is not to be confused with the current touring and recording version of GREAT WHITE, which features Mark Kendall, Scott Snyder (bass), Audie Desbrow (drums), Michael Lardie (guitar, keyboards) and Terry Ilous (lead vocals).

Watch Slovenian All-Female Heavy Metal Band HELLCATS Perform SCORPIONS CoverVideo footage of the Slovenian all-female heavy metal band HELLCATS performing a cover version of the SCORPIONS classic "Rock You Like A Hurricane" can be seen below.
HELLCATS earlier in the year released a video for its single "I Am". The clip was filmed in Ljubljana at the local drift car ring and it is the work of the same director (Pedrag Rajčič-Perica) who helmed the group's video for the song "Demon Dreams".
"I Am" is the first single from HELLCATS' upcoming sophomore album, due in 2017. The band's debut, "Warrior Princess", came out in 2014 and was critically acclaimed in Slovenia and other parts of the world.
Sasha Zagorc (bass) formed HELLCATS with her sister Sonja Zagorc (drums) ten years ago. The band had to deal with quite a lot of criticism as the first all-female band on the Slovenian metal scene, but they just kept going and now have fans all over the world.
In early 2010, HELLCATS released their first single, "Heavy Metal", which appeared on their "Hellcats" EP the following year. Their second single, "Master Of The Night", was helmed by Davor Kontić and Grant Austin, known as producer of the band LAIBACH. Both songs appear on the "Warrior Princess" album, which was independently released by HELLCATS at the end of 2013 and distributed via CD Baby and iTunes. Two versions of the album were released — English and Slovenian. Dasha Makuc later replaced Ajda Kovačič on vocals after the release of the album.
Sasha told Metal Bulletin 'zine in a recent interview: "Heavy metal is quite well developed here in Slovenia; we have many bands and few festivals which is pretty good for such a small country (Slovenia has only two million inhabitants). On the other hand, having a metal band here is still mostly male occupation. When we had our first concert back in 2006, there were not any other bands like us in this part of Europe. We were the first and are still the only all-female metal band in our country. We have a lot of supporters now, but in the past, it wasn't easy, there were some skeptics who thought that women can't be as good musicians as men and that we should rather stay in the kitchen. But we just kept on going and grew stronger. Since then, we have released an EP and the full-length album. At the moment, we are working on new songs and having concerts here in Slovenia due to the promotion of our new single."

BOREWORM To Release Entomophobia EP In November; “Vile Husk” Single StreamingInsectile death metal outfit, Boreworm (ex-The Yellow Sign, ex-The Contortionist), have premiered the first single from their forthcoming Entomophobia EP. Tilted "Vile Husk", the new track unleashes pummeling, rhythmically-jarring, venomous angular riffage, and virtuosic solo work across three minutes of mayhem. Listen to the track below.
Boreworm unleash cosmic horror on their sophomore EP, Entomophobia. Engineered and mixed by guitarist Mike Bielenda and mastered at The Pop Machine in Indianapolis by Wes Heaton, Entomophobia unleashes four tracks of blistering technicality and malevolent atmosphere that solidifies Boreworm’s place as one of extreme metal’s new acts to watch. The group effortlessly blends technical death metal virtuosity with disemboweling sludge and progressive splendour on this new, death-dealing release. Mike Bielenda’s (ex-The Yellow Sign) guitar playing conjures nightmarish, discordant riffs that intertwine with each other in serptentine fashions. Cody McCoy (Černá,Anagnorisis contributor) and Sam Fraser round out an impressive rhythm section with tumultuous percussion and subterranean bass lines. At the heart of this madness is vocalist Dave Hoffman (ex-The Contortionist), whose vile ululations propel the music further into dark territory. Guests include Rivers of Nihil’s Brody Uttley, who provides a solo on the EPs title track. Entomophobia is sure to win the hearts of fans of forward-thinking death metal everywhere.
Entomophobia will be released independently on November 19th through Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify and all other platforms worldwide. Digital pre-orders can be placed here and CD pre-order bundles can be found at this location.
Entomophobia tracklisting:

“Vile Husk”:
Formed in 2013 by former The Yellow Sign bassist turned guitarist Michael Bielenda and Inspired by a grand, arching science fiction mythos and the oppressive atmosphere of cosmic horror, Boreworm paints an aggressive yet hauntingly melodic musical soundscape. The band weaves a concept album storyline through a modern death metal exoskeleton and since it's inception has been growing and expanding on a fanbase of loyal listeners with self produced music releases and videos and, more recently with their inclusion as the only unsigned band to be a part of the seminal metal festival Summer Slaughter blazed a path of devastating live performances across the country in 2014. Persevering through strife and member changes the band holds strong to its unique apocalyptic vision and welcomed former The Contortionist vocalist and frontman David Hoffman earlier in the year. The band returns for the follow up to The Black Path EP with Entomophobia, showcasing their eclectic style and furious metallic delivery.

DREAMSHADE Signs To Artery Recordings; “Dreamers Don’t Sleep” Music Video StreamingEuropean juggernauts Dreamshade have returned with a polished sound and the drive to make a name for themselves in the active rock scene. Since their inception in 2006, the quintet has steadily released new music that has allowed them to tour the world. The band released their first EP, To The Edge Of Reality, in 2008. The EP quickly gained much well-deserved attention and landed the band on the roster of some of the most popular European music festivals, such as Metal Camp Open Air, Summer Breeze Open Air, and Metalfest.
Dreamshade’s constant touring soon captured the attention of Spinefarm Records/Universal Music, who signed them in 2010. In 2011, the band went on to release their debut full-length, What Silence Hides. As they toured heavily on the new record, they also released music videos for “Wide Awake”, “Eternal”, and “Miles Away”. The new record fueled their ever-hectic touring schedule, which went on to include the Finnish Metal Expo, Germany’s Rock Hard Festival, the Czech Republic’s Basinfirefest, and Bulgaria’s Kavarna Rock Fest.
In fall of 2012, Dreamshade was finishing up their second album and touring Switzerland on their new singles. They're second full-length, The Gift Of Life, produced by the band along with Jacob Hansen, was released in January 2013. After this release, the band went on to tour the US, Europe, Asia,
South Africa and Russia, all the while maintaining their European fanbase that brought them to the forefront of the genre.
Dreamshade has returned with a brand new record, Vibrant. In what is proposed to be their seminal work, the band reflects upon relationships of all kinds. The band recognizes the effects that familial relationships, romantic relationships, and long-lasting friendships have upon one’s life. Recognizing that shifts in those relationships can either strengthen or weaken a person, the new record is a call to learn and grow from inevitable change.
Vibrant will be released via Artery Recordings on December 9th. Check out a video for “Dreamers Don't Sleep” below:

COLISEUM And DOOMRIDERS - Magic Bullet Records Confirms Reissue Of Long Out-Of-Print DANZIG Covers For November ReleaseMagic Bullet Records will reissue the long out-of-print Not Of This World split 7" from Coliseum and Doomriders in November, this week posting pre-orders and more on the release.
Back in 2005, Coliseum's Ryan Patterson self-released a 12" on his label Auxiliary which featured both his band and Boston's Doomriders' ultimate tribute to the almighty Danzig. Each band turned a cover of a song from the classic self-titled debut Danzig LP, with Coliseum adding two originals and Doomriders putting up one original. A CD version of the release was also issued on the defunct Level Plane label.
While the Coliseum material was later repackaged into a collections release on Temporary Residence, the Doomriders material remained out-of-print for many years. As part of the upcoming celebrations to commemorate Magic Bullet Records' 20th anniversary, the label is celebrating the friends and musicians (lifers) that were a significant inspiration as the years went on, starting with a split 7" featuring both bands' Danzig covers from the 2005 Not Of This World split.
Without question, the gentlemen that comprise(d) both bands have been essential to the growth of the label, be it releasing great music on Magic Bullet (i.e. Doomriders' debut LP Black Thunder, Disappearer's The Clearing 2xLP/CD, the first four Old Man Gloom LP's, Jesuit’s Discography LP/CD, etc.), screening shirts for Magic Bullet bands (via Shirtkiller), booking and playing shows with Magic Bullet bands, and on and on.
This special, limited reissue features brand new Danzig tribute artwork from the steady hands of visual artist Florian Bertmer. Magic Bullet will reissue Not Of This World on November 18th on black, white, and clear 7" vinyl pressings. Pre-orders are available at the label store here and via Bandcamp here.

ALICE COOPER On JOE PERRY's Onstage Collapse: 'I Didn't Realize That AEROSMITH Only Did Two Shows A Week'Alice Cooper has once again commented on his HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES bandmate Joe Perry's recent backstage collapse, saying that the guitarist "was basically exhausted" after being subjected to the band's busy and physically demanding touring schedule.
"I didn't realize that AEROSMITH only did two shows a week," Cooper told Shawn SixX of Boston's WZLX radio station (hear audio below). "'Cause, honestly, I just figured everybody was like me; I do five shows a week, and very physical shows, and it didn't occur to me that not everybody worked like that. So we were on our eighth show in ten days. I mean, it was pretty brutal. And I think that he, basically, was dehydrated and I think he was basically exhausted. And I talked to him before the show, and he said, 'I don't think I've eaten anything in three days.' And I went, 'Well, that's not smart.' On tour? I mean, it's just one of those things you do. It wasn't his heart, though, and it wasn't anything that was vital. 'Cause four or five days later, he was on stage with us in San Francisco, and I'd never seen him look so good."
He continued: "The funny thing was is Johnny Depp [HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES guitarist], who wasn't used to touring, he's like me — he was getting healthier as the tour went on. Because you get into really good shape; it's like doing a two-hour aerobic every night. And I don't drink and I don't smoke, anything like that, so by the end of the tour, I'm in great shape. If you're not used to this, yeah, it's gonna wear you out."
Cooper went on to say that he was reluctant to have Perry return to the live stage too soon out of concert for his health. "[AEROSMITH singer] Steven [Tyler] called me and said, 'Hey, don't put him back on stage. I'm afraid.' And I went, 'Look, I'm gonna go talk to him in San Francisco and I'm gonna see how he is.' I went up to his room. He looked unbelievable, sounded great and got up on stage and played the whole show; I never heard him play that good. So he's back."
Alice admitted that Perry's onstage collapse "scared" him and his HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES bandmates and pointed out the irony in the fact that VAMPIRES are "honoring all of our dead drunk friends: Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon and Keith Moon and all these guys that we used to drink with, and then one of our guys goes down." But Perry has since fully recovered, according to Cooper, who went on to call the guitarist "a trooper. He's a road rat, like the rest of us."
Perry rejoined HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES on the road on July 22 in Rohnert Park, California.
The VAMPIRES — which also include ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS bassist Robert DeLeo — wrapped up their tour on July 25 at the California Mid-State Fair.
Tyler, who recently released his debut solo album, said that he was extremely worried about Perry, telling The Pulse Of Radio it's very likely that the VAMPIRES' itinerary is simply too strenuous to allow Perry the time needed to recharge between gigs. 2

'This Is Spinal Tap' Co-Creator Sues VIVENDI For $125 MillionHarry Shearer, who played bass guitarist Derek Smalls in the 1984 "mockumentary" "This is Spinal Tap", has filed a $125 million lawsuit against Vivendi, the French media group that holds the rights to the movie.
Shearer alleges that Vivendi, which acquired the film in 1989, engaged in fraud to hide revenues. He claims the four creators of the movie were paid an aggregate sum of just $98 between 1989 and 2006 for royalties on soundtrack sales while merchandise sales generated income of $81 for them between 1984 and 2006.
"I think it's important to challenge the status quo, not just for myself but for all my fellow artists, musicians and creators," the 72-year-old said in a video posted on Twitter.
"It is stunning that after all this time... the only people who haven't shared 'Spinal Tap''s success are those who formed the band and created the film in the first place," he added.
Shearer went on to accuse Vivendi of "wilfully manipulating certain accounting data" and "ignoring contractually obligated accounting and reporting processes.
"Vivendi and its subsidiaries... have, at least in our case, conducted blatantly unfair business practices," he said.
"This is a simple issue of artists' rights," added Shearer.
"I am just one person seeking redress for blatant injustice, but I hope this lawsuit will, in its own way, help set a new precedent for faithful and transparent accounting practices, and fair artistic compensation, industry-wide."
Rob Reiner's ("A Few Good Men") directorial debut, "This is Spinal Tap" has been hailed as "the funniest movie ever made about rock and roll" (Newsweek). Christopher Guest ("Best In Show"), Academy Award nominee Michael McKean ("A Mighty Wind") and Emmy Award nominee Harry Shearer ("The Simpsons") star as Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls, a.k.a. SPINAL TAP. Satirizing the wild personal behavior and musical pretensions of classic rock gods, "This is Spinal Tap" presents a second-rate band made up of aging members who are desperately trying to cling onto what little fame they used to have. With Reiner starring as the documentary filmmaker, "This is Spinal Tap" also features hilarious performances by Billy Crystal ("When Harry Met Sally"), Ed Begley, Jr. ("St. Elsewhere") and Fran Drescher ("The Nanny"), among many others.
Inducted into the National Film Registry in 2002, "This Is Spinal Tap" has left an indelible mark on pop culture as evidenced by its numerous imitators and its esteemed spot at number one atop Entertainment Weekly's "Top 50 Cult Movies of All Time."

Norway’s ATROX Sign With Dark Essence RecordsNorway's Dark Essence Records have added another string to their rapidly growing bow by inking a deal with Norwegian veterans Atrox, and are set to release the band's fifth full length album, Monocle, on a date as yet to be announced.
Commenting on joining Dark Essence's roster, and giving fans an insight into what they should expect from the result of Atrox's return to the studio after an eight year break, the band had this to say:
"It's finally happening, the moment we all have been waiting for, the moment when all the hard work finally pays off... We're proud to announce that we have joined forces with Dark Essence Records, and together we will release our next album, Monocle.
"Monocle is our darkest album so far. During the process of creating and recording it we explored, and were exposed to, our darker selves, and what we encountered during this process almost killed us. It left us in a dystopian vacuum and all worn out, but with one hell of a piece of music to present to the world.
"Musically speaking, Monocle contains poisons that'll blind you, and poisons that'll open your eyes. As William Gibson says in his novel Neuromancer: ‘The future is already here. It’s just unevenly distributed’.”
Formed in Trondheim, Norway, in 1988 the band was originally called Suffocation, but for obvious reasons the name was changed to Atrox in 1990. Having spent their first years playing an atmospheric mix of death and doom metal, recording demos and honing their live skills, Atrox's first release was the 1996 7" "Silence Of Echoes", which was followed by a further four full length albums and numerous live appearances including several tours and festivals.
Today's lineup of Rune Folgerø on vocals, viNd on guitars, Rune Sørgård on guitars and technology, Tor Arne Helgesen on drums and Erik Paulsen on bass plays what they like to call “schizo" metal, which differs from their original sound, being more melodic and with an experimental/avant-garde edge.
The time-lapse video of Finnmark and North Troms (Norway), photographed and edited by Randulf Valle, and using Atrox's “Den Store Hvite Stillhet” / “The Great White Silence” as a soundtrack can be seen below: 1

LAMB OF GOD To Release 'The Duke' EP In Honor Of Fallen FanRichmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD will release a new EP called "The Duke" in December. The EP's title track, which was recorded during the sessions for the band's last album, "VII: Sturm Und Drang", was inspired by the plight of a LAMB OF GOD fan named Wayne Ford, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010 and died five years later at the age of 33.
"The Duke" EP will feature the following tracks:
01. The Duke02. Culling03. Still Echoes (live at Rock Am Ring)04. 512 (live at Rock Am Ring)05. Engage The Fear Machine (live at Bonnaroo)
LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe, who befriended Ford in 2012 after first learning of his cancer battle, has penned a lengthy note on the band's web site in which he discusses his interaction with the fan and the inspiration for "The Duke"'s lyrics, which were written "in [Wayne's] honor."
Blythe wrote in part: "While I was in the studio [recording 'VII: Sturm Und Drang'], I had asked Wayne if there was anything he wanted to say to the world, any particular words he wanted to be remembered by. My idea was to record him saying them over the phone and then layer them into the record, or perhaps I could take the words and work them into a song's lyrics. 'That's really cool. Let me think about it, man,' he said, but he never got back to me about it. I don't know if he hadn't made up his mind, or if he just didn't feel like it. Regardless, I wanted to honor him in some way. I wanted this level, collected man who had become my friend, all the while staring down his own death, to be remembered through the music of the band he loved. Seeing how calm he remained was (for lack of a better word) inspirational.
"Those of us who think about how we will die all hope that we will do so with dignity, but no one knows how they will handle death until it comes for them. Wayne provided me with a living example of how to leave this world with grace. So I decided to write the lyrics to 'The Duke' from my feeble understanding of his perspective, and in his honor.
"Some of the lyrics for 'The Duke' arose from things Wayne had said to me, others from a conversation I had with his wife, and some just from my own head. I had originally named the song 'Immortalis', but after a conversation with Wayne's father Frank, I decided to keep the original working title that my bandmates had come up with, long before I had ever talked to Wayne.
"When I told Frank about the working title, he laughed and told me that he was a big John Wayne fan. He had named Wayne after the actor, who also happens to be known as… The Duke. Synchronicity at work.
"For various reasons, my band decided to not release 'The Duke' as an album track. I was fine with that — I thought the song and the story behind it would get more attention if it was released on its own later. And I do want the song to get attention, for more reason than one. Besides honoring this man I was friends with for such a brief amount of time, I want the story of 'The Duke' to raise some awareness about leukemia, especially the need for blood marrow donors.
"There are not nearly enough registered donors to fill the need. Bone marrow matches are very specific, much more so than blood, and people die from leukemia and other blood related diseases each year because a suitable donor can't be found. It's easy, painless, and free to register — just go to www.bethematch.org. You may save someone's life. Another great organization to support is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society — they fund research and provide information and resources for patients with leukemia and lymphoma. Check out www.lls.org to find out how you can get involved. 100% of the funds generated from the charity auction I set up to coincide with this release will go to the LLS.
"I know from talking to Wayne while he was alive (and to his wife and family after his death) that he was a pretty private dude, a quiet and humble man. He wasn't a big attention seeker, but in his final days he opened up and talked about his disease more; he knew how much his dying could bring awareness to leukemia, the need for bone marrow donors, and funding for research to try and find a cure for this terrible disease. If he were alive, he would undoubtably be annoyed by the attention I am trying to draw to him now — it would harsh his mellow. But his wife Courtney reassured me recently that he would understand why I am dong this — to try and help people — and that 'he would be so honored to have not died in vain.'"

WOVENWAR: 'Lines In The Sand' Video ReleasedOn October 21, WOVENWAR, the band featuring the talents of Jordan Mancino (drums), Nick Hipa (guitar) and Josh Gilbert (bass) of San Diego, California based metal act AS I LAY DYING, and Shane Blay (vocals) of OH, SLEEPER, will release its sophomore album, "Honor Is Dead", via Metal Blade Records. More aggressive and fluid than its self-titled predecessor, "Honor Is Dead" was written with contributions from all members, while the music for "Wovenwar" was mostly written before Blay joined the band. The results speak for themselves, capturing a group that sounds truly unified, and hungry.
The official video for the song "Lines In The Sand" can be viewed below.
For "Honor Is Dead", WOVENWAR chose not to converge at the same studio to lay down the record, taking advantage of modern technology instead by recording their individual parts in convenient locales across California, Alabama and Texas.
Hipa told Loudwire about "Honor Is Dead": "With this album, we knew that it was going to be a lot more aggressive and a little bit more intense. I think musically and lyrically there was just a lot of weight that we wanted to get off of ourselves. I think that comes off just in the form of aggression and I think we captured that."
He continued: "Everybody contributed and lent their talents to something that all seems to be pretty congruent. So think we achieved what we always want to achieve, which is really representing ourselves and capturing who we are and what we have to offer. So yeah, I'm proud of it."
WOVENWAR recently announced the exit of guitarist Phil Sgrosso. Mancino told Alternative Press about the split: "We just wanted to go in different directions, in terms of touring commitments. It was something that we talked about like adults and understood each other's perspectives. Right now, because he was still a big part of the creative process making 'Honor Is Dead' — and we've yet to tour — it feels like business as usual, but we'll see how his absence affects things as we move forward."

Never-Before-Heard JUDAS PRIEST Demo Extract To Be Included On AL ATKINS's 'Reloaded' AlbumOriginal JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Al Atkins will release his new solo album, "Reloaded", on Gonzo Multimedia. The album is a collection tracks from the last four decades that Al has either written or performed from his days in JUDAS PRIEST to his last band HOLY RAGE. It features special guest appearances by Ian Hill of JUDAS PRIEST (who performed on the original recordings of some of these classics, like "Victim Of Changes" from the "Sad Wings Of Destiny" album), John McCoy (ex-GILLAN), Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR) dueting with Al on "Victim Of Changes", a solo from Roy "Z" Ramirez of HALFORD and BRUCE DICKINSON, Japanese guitarist Tsuyoshi Ikedo from UNVEIL RAZE, Australia's Stu "Hammer" Marshall of DEATH DEALER, Chris Johnson from HOLY RAGE, Rob Allen on drums and longtime friend and collaborator, guitarist and producer of many of Al's albums, Paul May. These tracks have appeared in various forms on many albums over the past forty years. "Reloaded" also features a bonus track that is an excerpt of a guitar solo from the very JUDAS PRIEST demo featuring Hill on bass and K.K. Downing on guitar a never-heard treat for all JUDAS PRIEST fanatics.
"Reloaded" was once again recorded at Rock Solid Studios in the U.K.
"Reloaded" track listing:
01. Winter02. MInd Conception03. A Void To Avoid04. Coming Thick & Fast05. Heavy Thoughts06. Never Satisfied07. Money Talks08. Cradle To The Grave09. Love At War10. Victim Of Changes11. Mind Conception (early JUDAS PRIEST demo extract) (bonus track)
"Reloaded" is available to pre-order only on PledgeMusic together with other exclusive merchandise and experiences.
Regarding how the idea for the album came about, Atkins told PowerOfMetal.dk: "After Paul May and myself [were] asked to record a 'best-of' album by our record company, we recorded the ATKINS MAY PROJECT 'Anthology'. It then got me thinking about recording my own solo 'best-of] album, but set about re-recording all of my fave songs from the last four decades and using guest players. We still have three tracks still to record before it is all finished, but it is sounding absolutely killer."
He added: "[I am] really looking forward to this album and I hope everyone else who buys it will enjoy it too."
Atkins is the co-writer of several PRIEST songs which are included on the band's first two albums, "Rocka Rolla" and "Sad Wings of Destiny", both of which eventually went gold. Atkins co-penned the heavy metal classic "Victim of Changes", which was a combination of Rob Halford's song "Red Light Lady" and Atkins' own "Whiskey Woman". He also co-wrote "Winter", "Never Satisfied", "Dreamer Deceiver" and "Caviar and Meths".
In 1989 Atkins released his debut solo album, "Judgement Day", to great acclaim. But it was "Heavy Thoughts" and "Victim of Changes" (the latter being his collaborative album with ex-JUDAS PRIEST drummer Dave Holland) that brought him strong sales and critical acclaim around the world.
JUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill penned the foreword to Al Atkins's autobiography, titled "Dawn of the Metal Gods: My Life in Judas Priest and Heavy Metal". The book, which was written with Neil Daniels — a freelance rock writer and heavy metal fan who befriended Atkins during the writing of Neil's book "The Story Of Judas Priest: Defenders Of The Faith" (Omnibus Press) — was released in 2009 via Iron Pages. 5

OPETH’s Mikael Akerfeldt Talks ‘Sorceress,’ Beer, Record Collecting + More Read More: OPETH's Mikael Akerfeldt Talks 'Sorceress,' Beer, Record CollectingOpeth‘s latest album, Sorceress, was released on Sept. 30. The band is currently touring the U.S. in support of the disc, and Loudwire recently caught up with frontman Mikael Akerfeldt for a chat about the album’s recording and lyrics, their new label imprint, craft beer, record collecting and other topics. Check out our interview with Mikael Akerfeldt below:
The new album, Sorceress, is now out. Do you pay attention to the charts when the band releases a new disc?
We’re No. 1 in Germany, which everybody was happy about. Good chart positions in Europe. Generally, I don’t really know what it means. It’s important for the record label. Of course, the higher the better. It feels corrupt. It doesn’t say so much, the chart positioning. We didn’t celebrate [when the disc first came out]. We were out touring. We were playing on the day of the release. I think everybody forgot it was released that day.
The promotion cycle now seems to have gotten a lot longer where you’re releasing singles months in advance of the album.
Yeah, there’s more of that. That’s a sign of the times. I’m really against all that stuff. If it was up to me, nothing would be released before. No journalists would get the record until it’s actually out. I know … it becomes a business. Luckily, we have a record label that we work with and management and all that kind of stuff. Those people take care of that and I just play.
With this album, you’ve said you wanted to make every song diverse and different. How do you balance the diversity with still making a cohesive disc?
I think the idea of Opeth is that it’s depending on your taste. You’re probably going to find our record not so cohesive, unless you know where we’re coming from. I think you need to do a little bit of Opeth research if you’re going to find the record cohesive. To me, it’s always cohesive because the music I listen to spans so many types of genres. I don’t have a problem adjusting.
The same goes when I write music. It doesn’t bother me if it’s not cohesive in that sense. The only thing I want to be going for us when we make records is that it’s going to be good, that we all like it. Then, it’s up to journalists or fans to decide whether they think it’s cohesive. It differs from person to person. Some might think it sucks because its not and some people might like that it’s a friendly type of vibe that we have on our records. There’s no wordly truth to anything. It’s just a record with songs that we like and it’s up to everyone else to decide what they think.
Do you struggle at all with song order when you’re putting an album together or does that usually flow together pretty easily?
I would say pretty easily. In the middle of the recording or writing process I want to feel like this is the possible opener and this is the possible closing song. Once I have those I feel fairly safe. I would also feel fairly open to experimentation with everything that’s in between. But I want that specific opening track and that specific closer.
The lyrics on the album deal a lot with a negative side of love. Is that something that’s a reflection of your personal life, something you thought would make interesting songs, or a combination of both?
I wouldn’t be able to write those types of lyrics if it didn’t come from myself. You can’t just make up those types of things. What happened was I had some rough times in the past couple of years. I didn’t intend to write lyrics like that. That’s what came out. It felt good to be able to relate to them, to a certain extent.
There’s some fiction in there, of course. Everything is a bit distorted and everything is made to sound a bit cooler than reality. It feels good to relate to them a little bit more because there are a lot of lyrics in the past that have nothing to do with me. Just cool words strung together. The lyrics came out a bit more simple than before, and maybe they come across as a bit more naïve, but at least they matter to me.
At this point, you do what you want when it comes to writing songs and the style that you want to play in. Have you always been that way?
If I think back it’s probably always been like that. There probably was a time where I felt that we belonged to the metal scene a bit more than we do now. I wanted us to be part of the metal scene because the bulk of our fans come from the metal scene and I wanted to be part of that scene.
I’ve never felt that I’ve been restricting my writing. I’ve been thinking that metal fans are okay with strange things going on in our records. I’ve been proven wrong sometimes and proven right sometimes. With time I let go of that feeling of wanting to belong anywhere. Of course, we’re still a metal band. When we choose to play really heavy we can. When we choose to play soft we can. Genres have become less and less important to us with time.
A lot of bands, as they progress, it takes them longer and longer to record an album. You have cut your time down considerably. Was that a concerted effort or is it just the way it worked out?
It worked out that way. It’s good for finances if you spend less time in the studio. We happen to love being in the studio. We love it, all of us. We have so much fun recording records now. In the past when we spent a month plus in the studio it was never fun.
I like to say, without sounding like we’re boasting, that we’re at the top of our game now. We know what to expect from each other. We know what we are as a band and what we want to achieve. Its just a matter of us nailing it down on takes. We could easily spend longer in the studio and have fun all the time, but I think there’s no point booking a studio for longer than what you need. This time it was 12 days.
The album was released on your own imprint through Nuclear Blast.
Yeah. We signed a licensing contract with Nuclear Blast, while in the past we had a regular record contract. That’s the difference with the deal that we have with Nuclear Blast than the previous one. We decided to set up our own imprint because it was good timing. We’ve been talking about that for a little while. It’s all brand new still. We really don’t know where to take it. We could do solo records or side projects or even sign up other bands. We’ll see where we’re going to take it. It’s all new to us.
What is the significance of the label’s name, Moderbolaget?
It’s Swedish and it actually means “mother label” or “parent label.” It doesn’t matter what label we’re on, we’re still going to be the parent label.
Do you have the rights to the masters to be able to reissue your older material on your label?
I can’t remember exactly because we’ve been on so many different labels. Some of those records are supposed to come back to us. For sure, we could do that. That’s another reason why we started our own imprint. Once we get the rights to release a reissue of some of the early records, we could do it through our own label.
We signed some s–tty deals back in the day and signed away the records for 25, 30 years or something like that. I think we still have to wait a little bit longer. Once they come through, yes, we’ll probably do that.
You’re in the midst of a North American tour. When you’re over here, is there a certain food or a restaurant that you may go out of your way to go to that you might not be able to get in Sweden?
Yes. American food is legendary to Swedes. You go over here with the notion that you’re going to get fat. Cheese on everything, and lots of it. It’s been getting more and more easy to find good food here for us. That’s been linear to our own interest in food because back in the day we were happy with McDonald’s.
Now, we deliberately go out and look for good restaurants and you can really find some great food here. I think our collective view on what we love best about American food is easily steak. They’re the best in the world here. Generally, we like to go to a high end steakhouse on our days off.
You also have your own beer now, a stout and a pale ale.
They’re lovely. I love beer. Everybody in the band loves beer. The stout was a bit too strong. It’s 9 percent or something like that. You can only drink one of them at a time. But the IPA is really good. We had a few cases sent to the studio when we were recording and we drank all of it quickly. It was very good, and deliberately made the percentage a bit lower so you could drink a lot.
Do you try craft beers when you’re on tour? You could have that in your rider.
Yeah, it’s on our rider. We have asked for local breweries everywhere we play. Wherever we are we usually get a case of a diverse range of beers, like pilsners or IPAs or whatever’s local. That’s been pretty successful so far. We’ve come up on lots of good stuff that way.
You are a well known record collector. Do you try to make time to stop by record stores when you’re here?
Yes, I buy a lot. We’re in Detroit now and I went out yesterday and bought, not a bag of records, but a box of records. I spent a good 350 bucks buying some. There’s lots of record stores in Detroit. I bought lots of Coltrane and Johnny Hartman. I was looking for Detroit bands, but they were out. I still came away with lots of good stuff. I have too much. If I’m going to put it in my suitcase it will be too heavy. I have to pay a fine. I have to buy a second suitcase for the records.
Do you have a favorite record store in the U.S.?
I like the ones that are not so famous. Of course, you have Amoeba in L.A. and San Francisco and they’re good. But they know everything. They know what they have and they know how to price it. I prefer to go to small towns. I usually find a flea market or a thrift store or a record shop. Those are the best because it’s cheap, you pick up some good stuff.
I usually buy American stuff when I’m here. If I’m the Czech Republic I go for Czech Republic stuff, or Germany, I buy German stuff. Here, I can pick up Mountain records and Grand Funk records and jazz.
With so many records in your collection, how do you have them sorted and categorized?
I love your questions! Now we’re talking. I have lots of records and I buy double of everything. The White Album by the Beatles, I probably have 30 original UK copies and a couple of U.S. copies and some German copies of that one. My own collection, what I consume, the stuff I actually play, one section is UK bands and artists, ‘60s and ‘70s. Then, there’s the metal section. There’s an extreme metal section. There’s the Australia/New Zealand section.
There’s the Nordic section with Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. There’s a Dutch and Belgian section, there’s an Italian section. There’s a North American section with Canadian and U.S. artists. There’s the soundtrack section, there’s the compilation album section, the jazz section. There’s a blues section and a soul section. Then, there’s a new section. New bands, like new pressings on vinyl. There’s a section of that. Then there’s s–tloads of doubles all over. There’s records in my kid’s room, in the kitchen, in the rehearsal room, everywhere.
Did Nuclear Blast let you raid their warehouse when you signed with them?
No, but I did that when we were on Music For Nations, because they put out Metallica and Mercyful Fate and stuff like that. The first time I went there I got so much stuff that I couldn’t even shake the hand of the boss because I had too much stuff in my hands.
Then I felt bad because I hadn’t taken enough. The moment I came back home I called him up and asked him about those records that I left behind. They were like, “Sorry Mikael, we’ve thrown that away. It’s in a container on the landfill now.” I’m like, “No!” Horrible. Nightmare.
2016 is the 20th anniversary of your second album, Morningrise. As you look back on that one, what stands out from that recording process?
Smoking. I smoked a lot during that recording. I was only 23 years old and none of the guys apart from me are still in the band. We had a good time. We spent a month in the studio, which was a long time for us then. The first record was recorded and mixed in 12 days. The second one we spent a month, I think. We had a good time.
It was a bit of a sterile recording. The ADATs had made their march into the technological side of recording. That’s a horrible format. We recorded acoustic guitars and vocals on ADATs. I never liked the sound on that. But It was good. We had a good time. The band was pretty tight. We were pretty pretentious then. We played a lot of chess and smoked a lot of cigarettes.
Is there anything else that you’d like to mention?
No, but if you come up with any more record collecting questions you can always call again! 5

FM Streaming “Frozen Heart” Song From Indiscreet 30 AlbumDue to overwhelming demand, FM’s Indiscreet 30 album will see a formal commercial release on November 4th. The album track, “Frozen Heart”, is streaming below.
Thirty years after the release of their now classic debut album, FM decided to record a modern-day version of Indiscreet. FM were asked many times to consider re-recording the tracks on the album using today's modern technology and recording techniques to give the songs the "FM sound" of today.
Over the years, Indiscreet has deservedly won the reputation of being an iconic album for the band. FM always steered clear of the idea of re-recording it, but while in the studio recording the follow-up to their most recent release, Heroes & Villains, FM decided to put down a backing track to the song "That Girl" to see how it would feel with the huge sounds they were getting at the time. It gave the song a new dynamic and power that was not possible to achieve with '80s recording technology.
“We played it back the following morning and decided it would be great to hear all these classic songs with this new lease of life,” says bassist Merv Goldsworthy. “We are not trying to recreate the original, but this is our interpretation played by FM as we are today with the sound of FM 2016.”
In addition to the re-recording of the original album, Indiscreet 30 also features seven bonus tracks, including brand new song "Running On Empty" and a new recording of "Let Love Be The Leader".
Indiscreet 30 was produced by FM, recorded at Tremolo Studios and Coal House Studios, Staffordshire and mixed by Jeff Knowler.
Tracklisting:
“That Girl”
“Other Side Of Midnight”
“Love Lies Dying”
“I Belong To The Night”
“American Girls”

“Frozen Heart”
“Heart Of The Matter”
Bonus Tracks:
“Let Love Be The Leader”
“Running On Empty”
“Rainbow's End”
“Shot In The Dark”
“Bad That's Good In You”
“Love & Hate”
“That Girl” (Acoustic Version)

MORTILLERY Thrash Away In New "Shapeshifter" VideoBraveWords is premiering the video for the title track from Mortillery's third album, Shapeshifter, which was released in May via Napalm Records. Singer Cara McCutchen told BraveWords recently: "My influences are all over the place. I'm sure that's why my vocals are a bit of a shit mix. I get bored easily so I really need to be able to have variety. I think my vocals in the song “Shapeshifter” really captures my power metal/black metal/thrash metal influences.”
Watch the Edmonton-based extremists thrash away in front of director Lindsay Robinson below!
Accprding to a press release, Mortillery are geared up, charged and ready to attack with speedy heavy metal madness! Mortillery stand out with their holocaustic riffage, raw energy and dynamic female vocals. Drawing influence from a wide range of artists such as Judas Priest, Death Angel, Detente, Warfare and Holy Moses, the unstoppable force of Mortillery is reminiscent of the glory days of Bay Area Thrash, as well as the primal aggression of hardcore/punk. Their third album Shapeshifter is a ferocious beast drunk on speed, venomous guitar solos and the rabid vocals of Cara McCutchen. This heavy-weight release is the perfect blend between melody and aggression.

A BREACH OF SILENCE - New Album Secrets Due In February 2017Award-winning powercore metal pioneers A Breach Of Silence has revealed the cover artwork, tracklisting, and details for their third studio album, Secrets. The album was produced by Fredrik Nordstrom (Bring Me The Horizon, Arch Enemy, In Flames) and mixed by Henrik Udd at Studio Fredman. It will be released worldwide via Eclipse Records on February 24, 2017.
Tracklisting:
"Falling Away"
"Ride Or Die"
"Undefeated"
"Secrets"
"Nightcrawler"
"Fair Weather Friends"
"Buzz Killington"
"The Revelator"
"A Better Place"
"Broken"
"Shameless" (The Weeknd cover)
"Dethroned"
"Sugar And Spice"
“This album was approached differently than the last two albums Freddy and Henrik did for us,” says guitarist Cossie. “They flew down here to meet up with us the day after Christmas of 2015, and over the next twenty days we tracked the entire album here in Australia. Afterwards, they brought the stems back to Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden. Over the next three months, they were consistently sending us various mixes of the album for us to check out. Once the album was done, the staff at Eclipse Records began getting familiar with the material and we started talking about possible singles for the album. By June of 2016, we all had a game plan in place and began shooting videos for the first three singles.”
The band’s previous album The Darkest Road debuted on the iTunes metal chart at #1 in Australia. “We did well on our last album,” states vocalist Rhys Flannery, “and we set the bar for success pretty high, so we’ve got to top that this time around. Secrets is different than our previous album. Blair and I are doing lots of vocal harmonies, there’s a lot more stuff people can sing along with, and while it’s still heavy as hell, the songs are much more diverse. We’re really proud of what we’ve created here.”
Secrets is already available for pre-order via iTunes and Amazon. Either option comes with the songs “Falling Away”, “Secrets”, and “Nightcrawler” as instant grat tracks!

Former EUROPE Guitarist KEE MARCELLO Releases 'Black Hole Star' Video From 'Scaling Up' Album"Black Hole Star", the new video from Kee Marcello, can be streamed below. The track is taken from his new studio album, "Scaling Up", which was released on October 14 via Frontiers Music Srl.
With "Scaling Up", the former EUROPE guitarist is using his past as a springboard to take a giant leap into the future. With the new music firmly grounded in the songwriting tradition that made him a multi-platinum rock star in the first place, Kee explores the boundaries of melodic hard rock with a contemporary performance that nods to his past and employs sizzling production. This is an album all his fans will have to pick their jaws up off the floor after hearing!
Kee Marcello is a unique artist in the hard rock genre. He has never stopped evolving and growing as both a writer and a guitarist and the new album illustrates how much he has managed to raise the bar yet again with both his guitar playing, singing and writing.
Conceived and recorded in the winter and spring of 2016, "Scaling Up" encompasses all the influences and genres in which the Swedish musician has been involved in since the start of his career. Besides the obvious resemblances to EUROPE's classic sound, Kee also gives a nod to his past in EASY ACTION. Speaking of EUROPE (particularly the "Prisoners In Paradise" era), Kee took two officially unreleased songs, "Wild Child" and "Don't Know How To Love No More", and rearranged and re-recorded them from scratch. Beyond those two tracks, you can hear a touch of sleaze and more classic hard rock on songs like "Fix Me", "Blow By Blow" and "Soldier Down".
Marcello says: "The whole idea of 'Scaling Up' is to, very respectfully, use the music of my past as a canvas to paint a picture of where I stand today and what I aim for in the future as a guitarist/singer/writer. I think we've got the balance of now and then just right, and it's performed by the best group of musicians I've ever had the honor of playing with!"
Kee Marcello is one of the most renowned guitarists from Scandinavia and has an amazing history to his name. He's best known as the guitarist — from 1986 to 1992 — of one Sweden's biggest musical exports, EUROPE. In the late '80s and early '90s, EUROPE were one of the biggest rock bands in the world. They sold over 30 million albums, landed at No. 1 on sales charts in 26 countries and shared the biggest stages with acts like METALLICA, DEF LEPPARD and BON JOVI. Kee is now also enjoying a new wave of success as a TV persona in Sweden, as well as being involved in other musical projects.
"Scaling Up" track listing:

Video: IAN GILLAN Unboxes 'The Vinyl Collection 1979-1982'Demon Records will release a new must-have GILLAN vinyl boxset on October 21 (postponed from September 23). "The Vinyl Collection 1979-1982" features five albums — seven LPs in total — including "Mr. Universe" (1979), "Glory Road" (1980; 2 LPs, with bonus disc "For Gillan Fans Only"), "Future Shock" (1981), "Double Trouble" (1981; 2 LPs) and "Magic" (1982).
In the video below, Ian Gillan himself unboxes the records and tells you more about them.
The legendary DEEP PURPLE singer was delighted with the vintage feel of the finished product. He said: "It's a wonderful thing, vinyl… Best held in two hands and treated with respect, as you place it carefully upon the turntable. You just bought something significant, not easily disposable. And look at the sleeves," he commented, observing one of the records. "Aren't they cool? Read the lyrics and enjoy the artwork, while you are in the groove. No computers involved in the making of this music… Enjoy."
The 180-gram heavyweight vinyl records will all be exact replicas of their first pressings. "Future Shock", GILLAN's highest-scoring album, having reached No. 2 in the U.K. chart, will include the same 16-page booklet as featured in its original release. An exclusive edition available via Amazon will also contain a bonus seven-inch single for Spanish Guitar. Other Gillan classics featured in this priceless collection include "Sleeping On The Job", "No Easy Way", "Trouble", "Mutually Assured Destruction", "New Orleans", "No Laughing In Heaven", "Nightmare", "Restless" and "Living For The City".
GILLAN was born on the ashes of the IAN GILLAN BAND in 1978, when Ian decided to abandon the jazz-fusion style of his previous project in favor of a more progressive direction, together with keyboardist Colin Towns. The band was dissolved in 1982 following the "Magic" tour, partly due to Gillan's health issues with his vocal cords. Still, in its brief existence, they managed to release five Top 20 albums and ride the popularity of the NWOBHM sweeping the continent.
Ascended to rock royalty status as the lead singer of DEEP PURPLE, Gillan continued making an impact on the rock scene, and has become an erudite elder statesman of the genre. He sang in the role of Jesus in the original Andrew Lloyd's Webb's "Jesus Christ Superstar" and he co-wrote and sang the iconic "Smoke On The Water", among dozens of other hits. He has played to tens of millions of fans, and sold over one hundred million records. To this day he approaches writing, recording and touring with the zeal, passion and commitment of an 18-year-old. 3
