As Neal Morse concludes, “Obviously, the stars aligned and many prayers were answered as we gathered to play the Snow album in its entirety for the first time at Morsefest 2016. Some brilliant person had the idea to enlist the extreme talents of both Jimmy (Keegan) and Ted (Leonard) which brought a dazzle and musicality that is off the chart. Between that and Rich Mouser's astounding mix, not to mention Thad Kesten's team of amazing video people, this is one of the finest live concert packages of which I have ever been involved.”

 

French heavy thrash / stoner band Worselder will release their new album, Paradigms Lost, on September 30th in The USA via Sliptrick Records.

In the fall of 2015, Worselder started pre-production on their second album Paradigms Lost, finally finishing the ten-track opus in late 2016. A preview can be enjoyed below.

The band is deeply and proudly committed to its Pyrenean roots; it influences the atmosphere of their music, which is both dark and optimistic with lyrics marking topical events, as well as historical references. The album’s title and artwork are an evident reference to the history of the Cathar heretics (which proves once again the attachment of the band to its roots), but here the development of this theme goes further. Not being a concept album strictly speaking, Paradigms Lost explores all the paradigms humans have wasted, due to religious, political or financial considerations. 

Paradigms Lost was recorded by Elise Aranguren in the band’s private studio, then mixed and mastered at Upload Studio in Montpellier, France by Bruno Varea (Satyricon, Lenny Kravitz).

Chicago-based four-piece instrumental group, Zaius, have released a video for “Seirenes”, a track from their debut LP, Of Adoration, to be released via Prosthetic Records on October 6th. Watch the clip below, and order the album here.

Formed in 2010, the band explores a lighter, more melodic side of the members' musical tastes without abandoning the metal tendencies that come natural to them.

Guitarist Dann Dolce comments on signing to Prosthetic Records: "We are insanely proud of these eight songs and can't wait to share our first full length with the world. A proper release is what this album deserves, and Prosthetic Records really has our backs on this. The four of us couldn't be happier."

Of Adoration was tracked at the start of 2017 with Jeff Edwards before being sent off to be mixed and mastered by Chris Common (Pelican, Mouth Of The Architect, Minus the Bear). The record features eight tracks that peaks and valleys its way through over 40 minutes of music.

"We try not to conform to any specific sub-genre and pull influence from as many places as possible," reflects Dolce. "Our goal is to keep our songs moving and dynamic, heavy yet engaging, not letting parts drag on longer than they have to."

Illustrations for the album were created by Marald Van Haasteren (Baroness, Kylesa) whose style is as colorful and alive as these tracks were meant to be.

The Fright will release their new album, Canto V, on October 13th via SPV/Steamhammer. A music video for the album’s opening track, “Bonfire Night”, is available for streaming below.

Put your hand on your heart: It's hardly going to be any old random stories when a band like The Fright names its latest release after one of the greatest works of world literature. The title, Canto V, goes back to Dante's Inferno, in other words to the opening section of his Divine Comedy, and it documents two things: Firstly, it's the fifth studio album by the formation from Thüringen (which explains the Roman symbol for 5), secondly, it's a particularly special piece of work, both musically and with regard to subject matter.

For, even more than on their previous releases, on Canto V, The Fright perfects their greatest strengths. At the same time, their first-class songwriting once again effortlessly meets international standards, sounding as catchy as it is ambitious. As we have become accustomed, the Thuringian dark rockers' sound derives from a wide variety of sources, from gothic rock legends like Bauhaus, The Cult, The Mission, Sisters Of Mercy and The 69 Eyes (who The Fright toured with in 2013) to traditional hard rock à la Whitesnake, Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses and Skid Row. "I love Sebastian Bach!,” confesses singer Lon Fright, who founded the group back in 2002.

The album was produced by well-known producer Waldemar Sorychta (Lacuna Coil, Tiamat, Sodom, Moonspell).

Waldemar Sorychta about the co-operation with The Fright: "This is a really outstanding band and they present a well dosed mixture between Gothic tunes and Metal. Known for their thunderous beats and infectious grooves, one of hard rock’s most renowned emerging bands, Silvertung, is giving fans a glimpse behind the rough and tumble exterior with a new acoustic live EP that is as personally riveting as it is raw and rollicking. Aptly named Lighten Up, the group’s first acoustic album will feature six of their most well known songs and is scheduled for an October 27th release.

Lighten Up was recorded live in front of an audience comprising music critics and industry professionals at Wrightway Studios giving the album a truly authentic “jam session-like sound” as the band describes it.

“This release is unique in many ways. The preparation that goes behind this type of live recording is very different from what we are used to doing”, said Speed, singer/guitarist for Silvertung. “When you record a studio release, mistakes can be re-recorded, but live...it is what it is. Even though we recorded it in a studio, we still set up facing one another and did this live!”

Produced and engineered by Steven Wright, each song on Lighten Up was completely reinvented. For example, “Face The Music” still has the same melody but is a very different acoustic with a more swing vibe to it… and “Devil’s Advocate, which appeared on Billboard Mainstream Rock Radio’s Most Added List the week of release, was originally heavy and aggressive and is now performed stripped down and accompanied by a violinist.

It’s this creative freedom and the ability to experiment with their music that led Silvertung to explore the idea of an acoustic album in the first place.

“We created this album for our fans. We wanted them to see a different side to the band. We’re a hard rock band, that’s what we do best, but this is different and it’s a growth for us”, said Codey Red, lead guitarist for Silvertung. “Recording Lighten Up has already pushed us and challenged us as we’re writing new songs for the next release!”

The first single, “Dig”, hits radio airwaves on October 9th.

Brazilian drummer Aquiles Priester made his live debut with W.A.S.P. at the opening show of the band's "Re-Idolized - The Crimson Idol 25th Anniversary World Tour" Monday night (September 25) at Trädgår'n in Gothenburg, Sweden. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.

Aquiles said in a statement: "I'm very happy to announce that I will be touring Europe this fall with W.A.S.P. It's a huge honor to be part of the 'Re-Idolized' tour. 'The Crimson Idol' is one of the most important progressive concept albums in the history of heavy metal music. Born in South Africa, Priester has collaborated with such bands and solo artists as ANGRA, HANGAR, MIDAS FATE, PRIMAL FEAR, Paul Di'Anno (ex-IRON MAIDEN), Tony MacAlpine and Vinnie Moore. He is also known for having participated in the widely talked-about DREAM THEATER drummer audition which took place after Mike Portnoy had left the band. It was after that event that DREAM THEATER guitarist John Petrucci recommended Priester to another great guitar virtuoso, Tony MacAlpine.

Priester has released three educational publications: the book "Inside My PsychoBook: 100 Double Bass Patterns" (2011) as well as two DVDs, titled "The Infallible Reason Of My Freak Drumming" (2010) and "Top 100 Drum Fills" (2013).

Drummer Mike Dupke left W.A.S.P. in 2015 after a nine-year stint with the band. He was initially replaced on the road by YNGWIE MALMSTEEN drummer Patrick Johansson and, later, by Randy Black (PRIMAL FEAR).

Napalm Records will release "Re-Idolized", the twenty-fifth-anniversary version of W.A.S.P.'s iconic hit album plus the original "The Crimson Idol" movie on DVD and Blu-ray.

"Re-Idolized" will be made available on Blu-ray, DVD, CD, and vinyl in early 2018.

THE DARK ELEMENT, the new musical project featuring former NIGHTWISH vocalist Anette Olzon and Finnish guitarist and songwriter Jani Liimatainen, will release its self-titled debut album on November 10 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Circle Of Witches, Italian heavy metal stoner band, has announced a new bass player. He is Daniel “The Wolf” Shepard, already a member of Heimdall, power metal combo from Salerno. He was selected among three candidates who replied to band’s calling in June, after the sudden split with Caputo.

Born in 1990, Daniel got several live experiences, strengthened by study and focused listening. His main influences dig into heavy metal classics like Joey De Maio, Johnny Rod (W.A.S.P.) and ‘70s rock such as John Entwistle (The Who) and Geddy Lee (Rush).

“We took on board Daniel because of his musical skills, his enthusiasm, his speed to learn and rearrange some bass lines of our basic song list”, said Mario Bove, singer and last founder of the band. “Thanks to him, we grabbed the opportunity to play during the Doom Over Rome on 30th September” he continued “along with doom masters Candlemass and important Italian bands like Epitaph, Shores Of Null, Invernoir and In Aevum Agere.”.

Circle Of Witches will play new songs from the upcoming Natural Born Sinners, scheduled for release on the very first month of 2018.

Kissing Candice, who are tour circuit veterans that have performed on the entirety of the Mayhem Festival and who have made appearances at The Gathering of the Juggalos and hit the road with the likes of New Year’s Day, will release their new EP Safe Word on November 17th through Stay Sick Recordings.

Not Over Yet was formed in fall 2014 by the siblings Giulia Cerardi and Luca Cerardi (Merendine Atomiche / Merendine). Axioms Of Life has been recorded in many different locations around the world. Drums, bass, vocals and rhythm guitars were recorded between June 2015 and March 2017 at New Sin Studios, Loria (Treviso, Italy). Blaze Bayley and Greg Izor both recorded their vocals at the same studio, in June 2015 and June 2016, respectively. Charlie Huhn recorded his vocals in January 2017 at North Avenue Studios in DeLand, Florida (USA). Chris Poland recorded his leadguitar parts during the same month, at Glass House Studios in Los Angeles, California (USA). Dylan Rose recorded his vocal parts in October 2016 in Santa Cruz, California (USA), while Zak Stevens recorded his during the same month at MG Studios in Columbia, South Carolina (USA).

Finnish death metal trio Desolate Shrine will release new album Deliverance from the Godless Void November 10th on Dark Descent Records. The album's opening track, "The Primordial One," is streaming below.

It may be Desolate Shrine's fourth album (third on Dark Descent Records) in six years, but the band shows no sign of fatigue on their newest opus. The band continues to erase the already thin line existing between black, death and doom and once again come out of the abyss with their own instantly recognizable style. 
 
Recorded during 2016 with the same core trio since 2011's debut Tenebrous Towers, this new beast, while no less epic than its predecessors (three of the seven songs featured here are at over eight minutes long) is even more textured and tortured while at the same time highly atmospheric.  And while a track like "Unmask The Face Of False" may be the heaviest and slowest they've ever done, that doesn't prevent "Demonic Evocation Prayer" from being transfigured by hellish blast beats either. Still, as with each of their albums, Desolate Shrine's latest full-length is to be considered like one big entity, almost like a ceremony if you will, one that demands to be experienced from beginning to end without interruption.

“The Primordial One”:

British rockers THE DARKNESS have released a brand new song, titled "Southern Trains". Delivering rip-roaring riffs that soar much faster than the lamented train service, England's most distinctive, multiple award-winning, platinum-selling rock gods have once again created an important anthem for the nation, replete with spirited invective (a.k.a lots of swearing). Regarding the track, frontman Justin Hawkins says: "This song has genuine realness in it, innit. Dan and I had to endure the Southern Trains 'services' during the making of this album. The only difference between a normal day on Southern Trains and a day when they're all on strike, is that on strike day the ArseClownery is deliberate. They are utterly incapable of running a reliable service. Fact. The rest of the world is laughing at us. I hope this song goes some way towards facilitating change..." As some of the more printable lyrics relate: "Major delays, cancellations, tedious conversations / Trying to eat your dinner with an arse in your face, It's a disgrace… Heaving carriages of indignation / Grown men weeping in pure frustration / Totally packed and always late." The wildly entertaining video finds the band performing the song via ludicrously fun Snapchat videos. "Southern Trains" follows the release of both lead single "All The Pretty Girls" and the expletive-drenched insight on the music industry, "Solid Gold", both of which feature on the forthcoming album, "Pinewood Smile", out on October 6. All three tracks are available on all streaming platforms and also available for download with pre-orders of the album for the instant gratification of fans. "Pinewood Smile" finds THE DARKNESS on electrifying form, delivering some of the most sharp-witted, infectious and downright brilliant songs of their career, and is being greeted with rave reviews, including four stars in the brand new issues of Q, Planet Rock and Mojo magazines. Former PANTERA bassist Rex Brown took his solo band out on the road for the first time earlier this month in support of his debut solo album, "Smoke On This…". Backing Rex at several shows in Germany were Joe Shadid on guitar, John Luke Hebert on drums, Francisco "Pancho" Tomaselli on bass and Lance Harvill on guitar.

Prior to embarking on the German tour, Rex played a one-off show at Mercy Lounge in Nashville, Tennessee on July 14.

"Smoke On This…" was released on July 28 via Entertainment One (eOne). The disc marks the first time in Brown's career in which he serves as both lead vocalist and guitarist in a band.

Rex tracked lead vocals, rhythm guitars, and bass for the album, working with his primary collaborator and old friend Lance Harvill, a Nashville-based guitarist and songwriter, on the album's songs. "Lance was and is my main man on this. Everything we did was finely tuned, both musically and brotherly," Brown said.

Drums were tracked by Christopher Williams, whose talent has been utilized by country music star Lee Greenwood, the reconstituted BLACKFOOT and most recently, power metal legends ACCEPT. The album was produced by New Yorker-turned-Nashville-transplant Caleb Sherman, a multi-instrumentalist with work on records by LITTLE BIG TOWN and PORTER BLOCK, among others. "Caleb produced the project from a musician's standpoint," said Brown. "Not just a typical producer's standpoint, which was something I definitely needed. Between Caleb and Lance, we were a force to be reckoned with. They really pulled out the best in me." Peter Keyes, known for his work with LYNYRD SKYNYRD, can also be heard on a few tracks.

"My motto these days is 'Shake some shit up,'" Brown declared. "I've had my ups and downs, like anybody in this business. I wanted to feel like a true artist again, where I can write and record songs without worrying about any of the bullshit. This is just something else I'm doing for fun, man. And musical freedom. Fun has to come into it or I'm not going to do it. I've had a tremendous career and now I feel like I'm twenty-five years old again. This has given me that freedom I needed."

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, the band led by brothers and founding SEPULTURA members Max (also of SOULFLY) and Igor Cavalera, will release its fourth album, "Psychosis", on November 17 via Napalm Records. The disc, which was produced by longtime friend Arthur Rizk, was recorded primarily at a studio in Phoenix, Arizona.

Speaking to Metal Wani's Jake Patton, Max stated about the follow-up to 2014's "Pandemonium": "The album right now is finished. It was produced by Arthur Rizk, our friend and a great producer — an upcoming, underground producer. And he did a great job. I love the record. There are nine songs. We've got one song with Justin [Broadrick] from GODFLESH — just a great NAILBOMB, GODFLESH, CAVALERA kind of song. The rest is all pure thrash madness. And we had it mastered a couple of days ago by Joel Grind from TOXIC HOLOCAUST; he mastered the album. And it's great, man. It's a beast of an album. I think a lot of people are are gonna be surprised when they hear it. It's, for me, the best of all the CAVALERA albums, my favorite one. And it's got the same intensity and energy of the old stuff like [SEPULTURA's] 'Beneath The Remains' and 'Arise'. So a lot of people are gonna be happy to hear that."

Max also talked in more detail about the lyrical themes covered on the new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY disc. He said: "It's a bit… kind of like a mix. There's some stuff about what's going on right now, so there's some terrorist stuff in songs like 'Impalement Execution' and 'Terror Tactics' and 'Excruciating'. And there's some kind of fantasy stuff, like 'Crom', which is the father of Conan. That was a really fun song to make. We have a song called 'Insane' — it's about the state of the world, with Donald Trump and the bombings in England and France. And then, of course, there's an instrumental called 'Psychosis', which is the name of the album, which I think is cool, because I think it also reflects the state of mankind right now, the state of the world right now. It's pretty much psycho — we're living in a psycho age, with madness everywhere we go. The GODFLESH song is called 'Hellfire' — it's about drones. It was inspired by a movie called 'Eye In The Sky' and a movie called 'Good Kill', which is about drones and how people just sit in an air-conditioned office in Nevada and bomb people in Afghanistan and Pakistan with those crazy drones. It was a really cool song built around that, and I really love Justin from GODFLESH's vocals. He sings more in the line of the 'Streetcleaner' vocals from the early GODFLESH, so that came out really nice."

Asked if Max and Igor's recent tour on which they celebrated the twentieth anniversary of SEPULTURA's classic album "Roots" by performing the LP in its entirety influenced the musical content of the new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY material, Max said: "The 'Psychosis' song is very tribal. Some of the recordings were done with Igor in Uganda, in Africa. Igor went there for a thing he did with his wife, like helping people from Uganda, a humanitarian kind of thing. And he recorded a bunch of cool sounds when he was in Africa. So we created this kind of… almost like a voodoo, ambient kind of real tribal… It could have been on [SEPULTURA's] 'Roots'; this song could be on the 'Roots' album. It's got a really great buildup with the drums, and then it has real cool melodic guitars on it — almost like prog rock a little bit. It's kind of like the one 'off' song of the album that really is not like the rest of the record. But it's very cool, it's very tribal and definitely influenced by 'Roots'."

Igor told HeavyMetal.dk that it was "good" for him and Max to have Rizk involved with the new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY album because Arthur "is super passionate about music, the same way we are. So to have someone like him coming in and helping us with ideas and things like that, I think it's gonna surprise a lot of people, 'cause he understands a lot about what's going on today in music, and that's pretty cool — that exchange with us, with the old-school ideas with also someone that understands music right now. I'm far more excited than I've been in many years to put out a record like this. So I have to say I'm quite into it, what we're doing right now."

Max concurred, telling HeavyMetal.dk: "[Arthur] captured the classic Max and Igor in a way that's never really quite been captured before. It was always his objective from the beginning — he wanted to capture the soul of the brothers, and I think he did. I think it's quite amazing, looking back, that somebody can get that out of you after twenty-five years, man. That's awesome. But, like Igor said, there's a lot of noise also — between songs we're gonna hear all this kind of crazy just pure noise and heaviness, which is unheard of. So I'm very excited."

"Pandemonium" sold around 2,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 177 on The Billboard 200 chart.

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's previous CD, 2011's "Blunt Force Trauma" opened with around 5,000 units to land at No. 122.

The band's first CD, 2008's "Inflikted", registered a first-week tally of 9,000 copies to enter the chart at No. 72.

"Pandemonium" was produced by John Gray, who has previously worked with SOULFLY.

DEATH ANGEL's latest album, "The Evil Divide", entered The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 98 with first-week sales of just over 6,000 units — nearly all from pure album sales. The set followed the No. 72-peaking "The Dream Calls For Blood", which opened with around 5,400 copies back in 2013.

"The Evil Divide" was released in May 2016 via Nuclear Blast. The CD was once again recorded at AudioHammer studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, DEICIDE), who previously worked on 2010's "Relentless Retribution" and 2013's "The Dream Calls For Blood". Mastering duties were handled by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City. The cover artwork was created by Tyrrell.

PAPA ROACH singer Jacoby Shaddix admitted in several interviews that he came close to taking his own life in 2012 as he struggled with both marital problems and falling off the wagon druing the making of the band's "The Connection" album.

"There was a moment in the record where I was suicidal," Shaddix told the Associated Press at the time. "I was done. I'm like, 'I'm over this. I can't do this anymore. I can't take this pain anymore. Like, I feel so alone and broken and just shattered.'

"Like, everything that I had worked for in my life and said that I wasn't going to be, I don't want to be like my father — what happens? I'm like this drunk fuckup that destroyed his family," he said. "I did it. I'm sitting there like, 'I did everything I said I'd never do.'"

He added: "I was just an emotional wreck, couldn't do nothing, man. I was just paralyzed emotionally. Musically, I was just stunned. I didn't even want to work on the record. I was just like, 'I just can't do this.' My producer's like, 'The best thing you do right now is write about exactly what's going on, just tell it and be a hundred percent completely honest about what's going on in your life."

Asked to describe in more detail what he was feeling when he was dealing with these issues, Shaddix said: "I'll tell you this about when you're in that moment and you feel like you want to end it all ... you do not think rationally, you don't think straight. Your emotions, you are just so caught up in the pain. ... And luckily I just had these moments of clarity at night or I just thought about what would happen. What would it be like? My family's life and my band's life, what would their lives be like if I wasn't here? It's terrible. Like, I ran that story in my head and I'm like, 'Why would I do something so selfish?' It's a terrible thing and I hate to like really admit that's where I was, but that's where I was."

Bennington committed suicide at the age of 41 on July 20 at his home in the Los Angeles area, leaving behind a wife and six children.

PAPA ROACH has spent the last few months touring in support of its ninth studio album, "Crooked Teeth", which was released on May 19 via Eleven Seven Music.

During an August 17 appearance on the "Trunk Nation" show on SiriusXM channel Volume (106), Snider spoke about TWISTED SISTER's decision to call it quits last year after completing a farewell fortieth-anniversary tour.

"Basically, the level of intensity that I performed at with TWISTED SISTER, I had to stop while I could still deliver that before I could no longer deliver that," the singer explained. "The headbanging, the thrashing, all that energy… Where Alice [Cooper] always seemed like a crotchety old dude, and he's crawling around the stage, that works great for a 72-year-old dude now. But what I did does not work for a 62-year-old. I mean, it's just too fucking hard to stay in the shape. Just to keep that going just got harder and harder. I said, 'I wanna stop while people are still smiling and not looking at me saying, 'Oh, remember when he was good?''

According to Snider, he has had to approach his live performance differently while touring around the world with his new solo band.

"Everything I'm doing now, there's no more headbanging involved," he said. "My neck just about had it. And with TWISTED, I had to stop headbanging. And as long as I'm on stage with TWISTED SISTER, I just could not perform with that band and just not want to… I had to thrash. So I felt if I stepped out of that, I don't know if just… At least I could say, 'Hey, I'm doing some new things, I'm trying some new things, and I'm not… I'm not in TWISTED SISTER. I'm Dee Snider now.' And people seem to be cool with it. And I'm cool with it, because, for some reason, without having that big 'TS' [logo] hanging over my head, I don't feel this obligation to get out there and just start doing that [thrashing around]."

Dee said that he wanted TWISTED SISTER to go out at the peak of its game before it became embarrassing. "I didn't wanna have that Mike Tyson moment where you're crawling around on all fours looking for your mouthpiece," he explained. "I'll never forget that image in my head. There was film footage of Babe Ruth playing with… I don't know who they traded him to, but when he left the Yankees, and he's literally walking around the bases 'cause he can no longer run at all. So I did not wanna ever have that happen… And now, separate from TWISTED SISTER, people are coming down [to see my solo band] and going, 'Well, he's not as intense as he was.' I'm hopeful that people will go, 'Well, that was TWISTED SISTER.'"

Dee's solo album, "We Are The Ones", was released last October via Red River Records (distributed by BFD/RED). Produced by Damon Ranger, the disc was described by Dee as "an album that is think part FOO FIGHTERS, part IMAGINE DRAGONS, part THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS." He added: "Forget anything from the past. Most of my heavy metal fans are gonna hate it; I've abandoned my past to move forward."

Industrial metal veterans MINISTRY played a new song called "Antifa" during their September 15 appearance at this year's edition of the Riot Fest at Douglas Park in Chicago, Illinois. Video footage of the performance can be seen below (courtesy of In The Loop magazine).

"Antifa" is expected to be included on MINISTRY's next studio album, "AmeriKKKant", which will tentatively arrive in early 2018. The disc will feature guest appearances by DJ Swamp (Beck), Burton C. Bell (FEAR FACTORY), Arabian Prince (N.W.A.) and Lord Of The Cello.

In 2016, Jourgensen announced plans to record a new MINISTRY studio album to follow 2013's "From Beer To Eternity", despite previously saying there would be no further MINISTRY records after the death of longtime guitarist Mike Scaccia in 2012.

Jourgensen's side project SURGICAL METH MACHINE released its self-titled debut album in April 2016 via Nuclear Blast. The CD was recorded primarily at Jourgensen's home studio in Burbank, California with his longtime engineer Sam D'Ambruoso.
