Hungary’s ANN MY GUARD Sign With Rock'N'Growl Records; New Album Details Revealed

Hungary’s ANN MY GUARD Sign With Rock'N'Growl Records; New Album Details Revealed

Hungarian female fronted metallers, Ann My Guard, have signed a record deal with German based label Rock'N'Growl Records. The band's forthcoming second album, Ourania, will be released worldwide on CD and digital on January 13th.

Singer Eszter Anna Baumann says: "It's a great honor to be a part of Rock'N'Growl Records. Our album couldn't be in better hands than Axel's. I've been following his company/label for many years and I know that he's very professional in managing and promoting his bands. I am sure that our collaboration will help Ann My Guard to reach more fans internationally. This is a huge step for the band and we are really excited about the future."

Axel of Rock'N'Growl adds: "We are proud to welcome Ann My Guard to the Rock'N'Growl family! This band is really dedicated and hard working. That's what it makes to get them on our roster."

Ourania was produced by Gabor Vari at Black Hole Sound Studio.

Tracklisting:

“Novae”
“Asteria”
“Callisto”
“Io”
“Breathe The Sun”
“Obsidian Tears”
“Serpent”
“Hekate”
“The Secret”

Eszter Anna Baumann comments on Ourania: "I wanted to make a record that fully represents what Ann My Guard is: I really like mixing the ethereal feminine vocals with heavy guitar riffs and dark melodies. I like contrasts. Moreover, I love to use mythical metaphors: while on the debut record, Innocence Descent I used the Moon representing the maturing of a woman, by Ourania I expressed more universal themes. As the lyrics of Asteria say: I just want to elevate you, underneath my starlit sky, I'll be set free... The aim of rock music for me is to elevate the listeners into another dimensions, not to pull them down. I think that's what we all need from music nowadays, right?"

Ann My Guard is:

Eszter Anna Baumann (vocals, bass)
Krisztián Varga (guitars)
Benjamin Bárkányi (guitars)
Norbert Tobola (drums)

Video: LAST IN LINE Performs In Paris

Video: LAST IN LINE Performs In Paris

Fan-filmed video footage of LAST IN LINE's November 14 performance at Le Trianon in Paris, France can be seen below.

LAST IN LINE is the band featuring DEF LEPPARD guitarist Vivian Campbell alongside fellow founding DIO member Vinny Appice, plus singer Andrew Freeman, who has previously fronted HURRICANE and LYNCH MOB.

LAST IN LINE's debut album, "Heavy Crown", was released on February 19, 2016 via Frontiers Music Srl. The CD was recorded at a Santa Clarita, California studio with producer Jeff Pilson, a veteran bassist who has played with DIO, FOREIGNER, DOKKEN and T&N, among others.

LAST IN LINE recruited Phil Soussan (OZZY OSBOURNE, BEGGARS & THIEVES, Steve Lukather) to play bass for the group for all dates in support of "Heavy Crown". Also joining them at the shows is virtuoso keyboardist Erik Norlander (Lana Lane).

Soussan made his live debut with LAST IN LINE on April 14 at Count's Vamp'd Rock Bar & Grill in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Freeman previously played with Soussan in the acclaimed Las Vegas rock and roll production "Raiding The Rock Vault".

Appice and Soussan had done a number of shows together as members of the all-star jam band BIG NOIZE.

Original LAST IN LINE bassist Jimmy Bain passed away in late January at the age of 68. He was reportedly suffering from lung cancer at the time of his death.

In a recent interview with Rock Today, Campbell spoke about LAST IN LINE's decision to carry on as a band, with Soussan taking Bain's place. He said: "Jimmy was a great riff writer, and [the band] really meant so much to him, and that's the only reason why I feel we can continue to do this, because when Jimmy passed away, the initial effect on me was, 'Fuck it! That's it. We're done.' We'll put the [first LAST IN LINE] record out and that's the end of it, but on reflection, Jimmy put so much into this record, as indeed we all have, that we owe it to him and we owe it to ourselves and our legacy to work this record."

He continued: "We did have a tour planned for immediately after the record was released, but we obviously canceled that tour. We ended up doing some of the key shows a couple of months later like the Frontiers festival in Milan and we did the Rocklahoma festival at the end of May, but on reflection, it was important to us. It meant too much. The response to the record also helped fuel that decision, because people did genuinely respond to it and say, 'Hey, this is a great record. It's what we've been waiting for years,' so that obviously buoyed us a lot and we licked our wounds and picked it up and we were very fortunate that we got Phil Soussan, who's about as close as you can get to someone who plays in that style that Jimmy does."

Vivian added: "Phil knew Jimmy for years and years. We were all friends. He played for Ozzy for years and years. He gets what it's like to play that kind of aggressive, time-keeping percussive bass guitar like Jimmy did, so it's never going to be quite the same. No two people ever play the same — guitar, bass players, singers — we're all unique like our finger prints and that's what makes great bands and the chemistry as the interaction of these individuals. It's as close as we're going to come playing with someone like Phil Soussan and we owe it to Jimmy and his memory and the musical legacy that we have together. We finally decided we have to continue to do this, but it was a painful decision."

BLACK STAR RIDERS: First Trailer For

BLACK STAR RIDERS: First Trailer For 'Heavy Fire' Album

Nuclear Blast will release BLACK STAR RIDERS' third studio album, "Heavy Fire", in February 2017. The band will support the album with a full U.K. and Ireland tour in March 2017.

The first trailer for "Heavy Fire" is available below. BLACK STAR RIDERS' previous album, "The Killer Instinct", was released in 2015 to widespread critical acclaim and went on to score multiple radio playlists. A solid year of worldwide touring culminated in December 2015 in an U.K. arena tour alongside DEF LEPPARD and WHITESNAKE. 2016 saw BLACK STAR RIDERS — Ricky Warwick, Scott Gorham, Damon Johnson, Robert Crane and Jimmy DeGrasso — return to the studio with "The Killer Instinct" producer Nick Raskulinecz (RUSH, FOO FIGHTERS, KORN), at his studio just outside Nashville. The resultant album is BLACK STAR RIDERS' most accomplished work to date. From the immediate riffs of album opener "Heavy Fire" to the instant hooks of first single "When The Night Comes In" (see lyric video below), from the dirty bass groove of "Thinking About You Could Get Me Killed" to the familiar and trademark dual guitars of Gorham and Johnson on "Testify Or Say Goodbye", this is an album that will further cement BLACK STAR RIDERS' reputation as one of the world premiere rock acts. "Angst, passion, power, glory, love, truth, lies, loyalty, questions that begged to be answered. There's a guitar army coming…and it's bringing the 'Heavy Fire'!" says Warwick. "Not many new bands get to record three albums these days," adds Gorham. "Without doubt, this is BSR's best album so far. We had a great time recording it and can't wait to play the new songs live on tour in March." Following on from their critically acclaimed albums "All Hell Breaks Loose" and "The Killer Instinct", which have paved the way for BLACK STAR RIDERS to be recognized as a power force in the modern day of rock and roll, "Heavy Fire" will be once again released by Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The band have also brought in PledgeMusic, one of the most innovative and successful platforms of the modern music world, to give fans extra special product and experiences to go along with the album's release. BATTLE BEAST To Release

BATTLE BEAST To Release 'Bringer Of Pain' Album In February

Finnish female-fronted metallers BATTLE BEAST will release their fourth album, titled "Bringer Of Pain", on February 17, 2017 via Nuclear Blast Records. Recorded and produced at JKB Studios by keyboardist Janne Björkroth, the ten-track album was mixed by Björkroth alongside Viktor Gullichsen and Mikko Karmila, while mastering was done by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios. The cover artwork was crafted by Jan Yrlund.

A video for the album's first single, "King For A Day", was recently filmed and will make its online debut soon.

"Bringer Of Pain" is BATTLE BEAST's first album to feature guitarist Joona Björkroth, who joined the band last year.

BATTLE BEAST in February 2015 parted ways with lead guitarist and main songwriter Anton Kabanen due to "insurmountable disagreements" with the other members of the band.

BATTLE BEAST's third studio album, "Unholy Savior", entered the Finnish chart at position No. 1. The CD was released in January 2015 via Nuclear Blast.

Singer Noora Louhimo joined BATTLE BEAST in 2012 as the replacement for Nitte Vänskä.

In an interview with RockRevoltMagazine.com, Noora stated about "Unholy Savior": "'Unholy Savior' includes various kind of songs: the BATTLE BEAST kind of hard, balls-to-the-wall power metal, soft and sexy pop-ish song, and a couple ballads. And, of course, a couple of bonus tracks that are influenced by '80s music. I think this album is showing different aspects of BATTLE BEAST and give more versatility in heavy metal genre."

Asked how she has been received by the old BATTLE BEAST fans, Noora said: "At first, I was crucified, so to speak. On the other hand, some fans thought I was improvement for the band, but some didn't believe in me at all. It's been very growing experience and made me believe more in myself as a singer than ever before. If you can take bad comments as your fuel to practice more and develop yourself into better, then you are on the right path. Of course, you have to know when take the critic seriously and when it is just someone trying to hurt you. But I really want to thank people who've been supporting me since the beginning but also the people who didn't. What doesn't kill makes stronger and better."

Video: Reunited Original Members Of ENTOMBED Perform Entire

Video: Reunited Original Members Of ENTOMBED Perform Entire 'Clandestine' Album In Malmö

The new lineup of Swedish metal veterans ENTOMBED played its groundbreaking 1991 album, "Clandestine", in its entirety at Malmö Live in Malmö, Sweden on November 12. Sitting in first with conductor Josef Rhedin and the 100-plus member Malmö Symphony Orchestra for Thomas Von Wachenfeldt's arrangement of "Clandestine", the band performed "Clandestine" from front to back for the very first time.

Guitarist Alex Hellid said: "'Clandestine' is a complex beast. Revisiting it 25 years later is definitely something special."

Joining original ENTOMBED members Alex Hellid, Uffe Cederlund (guitar) and Nicke Andersson (drums) in the group's latest incarnation are Robert Andersson (vocals) and Nicke's half brother Edvin Aftonfalk (bass), both formerly of the Swedish death metal band MORBUS CHRON.

The new lineup of ENTOMBED made its live debut on the Close-Up Båten cruise on October 27.

Decibel magazine inducted "Clandestine" into its Hall Of Fame series in their December issue. Editor Albert Mudrian said "Clandestine" is "one of the greatest death metal records — Swedish or otherwise — of all time."

BLABBERMOUTH.NET first announced the trio's assemblage earlier this year. Since then, fans have questioned the possibility of new material from the death metal pioneers. Prior to the aforementioned concerts, Cederlund asserted: "We're not going to do big world tours. Right now we have these two shows booked and we're taking it from there. We have been re-recording old stuff to see how we sound today — and we like it. Time is flying faster as I get older and I would love to be part of a new ENTOMBED album. I'm open for it." Andersson noted: "We realized it's been 25 years since 'Clandestine' first came out and we never properly performed it live. It's about damn time! I wanted to be part of the earlier orchestra shows but schedules clashed. This time the stars aligned such that we can do both the eerie cinematic Christopher Young-style ('Hellraiser') set, where we sit in with the orchestra, and then the full-on original performance as a band. It's an awesome way to celebrate." "Just getting into a room with Nicke and Uffe is exciting," said Hellid. "Getting back on stage will be amazing. We find profound joy in looking for, creating, and shaping ENTOMBED. It is an immense rush making all the bumps along the way well worth it. The ENTOMBED band that performed on the Close-Up Båten cruise and at Malmö Live is not to be confused with ENTOMBED A.D., which features ENTOMBED vocalist Lars Göran Petrov alongside Olle Dahlstedt (drums), Nico Elgstrand (guitar) and Victor Brandt (bass).

Hellid and Petrov have been embroiled in a legal battle over the ENTOMBED name for several years. In 2014, Petrov was awarded the right to use the band name in connection with future recording and touring activities, a decision which Hellid appealed without success. The guitarist then went on to register a trademark for beverage production under the "Entombed" name. This move did not sit well with Hellid's former bandmate, who filed a letter of protest against Alex's registration of the name, claiming that it could be confused with band activities. He also said that Hellid acted in "bad faith" when he registered name and that there was a desire to "deceive the public." Petrov's protest, however, found no favor with the Swedish Patent And Registration Office, which rejected his claims on the issue in a March 2016 ruling.

ENTOMBED A.D.'s second album, "Dead Dawn", was released in February 2016 via Century Media.

METALLICA Bassist ROBERT TRUJILLO Says Songwriting Credits Are

METALLICA Bassist ROBERT TRUJILLO Says Songwriting Credits Are 'Not A Big Deal' To Him

Germany's Rock Antenne recently conducted an interview with METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo. You can watch the full chat below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the actual amount of time the band spent putting together "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct":

Robert: "It's a long process because the riffs started eight years ago. A lot of the ideas are born in our jam room which is our little space that we have before we go onstage. With James Hetfield [guitar/vocals], every second he's coming up with a great riff. We have to record and document that because he will forget that riff. Then ideas are prepared at home. But really, two years was the focus on when we started to dive into the songs and arrangements and then record."

On whether humanity is on a path of self-destruction:

Robert: "I hope not. The great thing about METALLICA's music and the lyrics, it's always going to be hopefully a motivating experience. James came up with the title. He was in a conversation with a friend of his and they were talking about how as men just making mistakes and the wives, as we say, 'get on your case' about making mistakes. It could be anything; it could be losing your keys, or whatever, just doing something stupid. The idea was, 'Man, maybe as men, maybe we're hardwired to self-destruct.' That grew into 'hardwired for anything.' 'Hardwired to eat cheese pizza.' 'Hardwired' preceding any other word you want. It made great sense and it stuck. Usually for an album title we'll sit around and we'll throw a bunch of ideas together, but this one was pretty immediate. It turned into the title of the record."

On whether METALLICA had the double-record idea in mind when they started songwriting:

Robert: "Yes and no. I call it a process of elimination. You're nurturing ideas and that takes time. What happens is there's so many, what I say, 'great ideas.' What you have to do is try to consolidate them and put them into one song and then your song becomes eight minutes long. Then you have over 80 minutes of music. Then you need to have two CDs. It just turns into that. I don't think it's planned that way. I just think that right now, it feels right to have these arrangements the way they are. So often your management tells you 'Three minute songs!' You say 'Impossible!'"

On how METALLICA manages their family life with their touring schedule:

Robert: "It's very important to us, family, and the balance of family within the band is probably the most important. METALLICA is important, but when you have your wife and your kids and you need to maintain that and keep the peace. It's important to work around the schedule of the kids' schools. We do basically two weeks on, two weeks off in our schedule. It's costly. It costs more money, of course, but at the same time, it keeps the peace of all the band members and in our better halves. Again, it's just balance. It's important to us to stay connected to our kids because happy wife/happy life, happy family."

On how much input he had on "Hardwired…To Self-Destruct":

Robert: "Actually, a lot. A hell of a lot. What we do is even though when you read, a lot of people like to read credits and obviously on 'Hardwired' compared to 'Death Magnetic', there's writing credits that are really centered around Lars [Ulrich] and James. The truth is that we jam. Even though the original riff, or the idea comes from Hetfield on this album, these are all great Hetfield riffs. You don't see the riffs from Kirk [Hammett] or myself as much as you would have on the previous record. I'm there everyday jamming and I'm writing my bass parts. I'm playing my parts as bass parts. What determines a songwriter's [credit], you have to ask Lars. [Laughs] That's okay.

"I always say my role in METALLICA is to support the song and to support my team and whatever that means, I'm there for it. I'm like Joe Walsh with THE EAGLES. Joe Walsh with THE EAGLES was a songwriter, he did a lot of great things, but when it came to THE EAGLES, he was there to play guitar, he was there to sing, he was there to do whatever he needed to do. If he had to write sections, he did. The great thing about 'Hardwired', I do love the songs, I love the sonics, the sound, the production, I love the fact that I was able to go into the vocal booth with James and sing back-ups and be a part of the vocal production on that level, which is something I don't think had ever happened. There's a lot of really great experiences with this album. It's really the second step in me being with this band creatively. It's the second step because 'Death Magnetic' was really the first, coming in with [producer] Rick Rubin and taking the journey with Rick and [engineer] Greg Fidelman being a part of that. Now with Greg Fidelman as the producer and myself still there, it feels free. It feels new. I'm looking forward to the next record in this journey. Songwriting credits… it's not a big deal. I think what the bigger deal is like how the songs develop and my role in supporting Lars and James with a song, whether the idea comes from Kirk or James or me, or whatever, it doesn't matter. What matters is does the song sound great when it's finished?"

On whether METALLICA is a band or an "industry":

Robert: "METALLICA is a band. We enjoy what we do. We create. At our age and where we're at now, it's impressive. I've been in this business a while and I've seen a lot of bands who get a little bit older, they lose some of that fire and edge. In all honesty, they lose their creativity. The scary thing is I think we're growing together now more than ever creatively, which is really exciting. Already there's been a couple of loose jams that for me, have been like 'Whoa. That's pretty good.' I know there's another great album probably waiting to happen. I know that drives Lars crazy because it took a lot to make this one. Creatively, I see it, I feel it. I'm excited about where we're at and where we're going. Music comes first with us. Let me say this: In the last eight years, it took a long time. There's a lot of reasons. We made an album with Lou Reed ['Lulu']. That took a year. We made a 3D movie called 'Through The Never'; that took two years. And we also toured for 'Death Magnetic' and we did some other special shows, celebrating 'Ride The Lightning' and the 'Black Album.' We challenge ourselves. I think that makes us better."

Released on November 18, "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct" consists of two discs, containing a dozen songs and nearly 80 minutes of music. The long-awaited follow-up to 2008's "Death Magnetic" was produced by Fidelman with Hetfield and Ulrich. The band recorded the disc at its own studio.

METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD: 'I Would Like To Make Some New Music Sooner Than Eight Years'

James Hetfield says that the reaction to METALLICA's new album, "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct", has been so positive, it has inspired him and his bandmates to release the next record sooner.

"Hardwired", the quartet's first album in eight years, came out on November 18, and the early response has been mostly positive, with music industry web site Hits Daily Double now predicting that the effort will sell between 305,000 and 315,000 copies in the U.S. in its first full week of release.

Speaking to Italy's Linea Rock about METALLICA's plans for the foreseeable future, Hetfield said (hear audio below): "I think we plan… At least for now, we've booked out two years [of touring]… at least. So I can't predict the future, but we start there and hopefully there's more than that. And I would like to make some new music sooner than eight years, for sure. [You get] such a pleasure and a joy of hearing your new music and having other people hear it. So we don't wanna wait that long."

Hetfield also spoke about the striking "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct" cover artwork, which features photos of all four members making angry faces and looking in different directions superimposed on top of each other. He said: "I think it's a really cool idea to layer the different sides of us together. And especially the album cover, I think it's really powerful to have a visual of this METALLICA beast as multiple faces with multiple emotions and expressions."

"Hardwired… To Self-Destruct" consists of two discs, containing a dozen songs and nearly 80 minutes of music.

METALLICA revealed over the weekend that "Hardwired" is No. 1 in 57 countries, with the album going Top 3 in 75 nations and Top 5 in 105 countries.

Ex-SEPULTURA Drummer IGOR CAVALERA Recalls Funny Story Involving MOTÖRHEAD

Ex-SEPULTURA Drummer IGOR CAVALERA Recalls Funny Story Involving MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY

Agoraphobic News conducted an interview with Igor Cavalera on November 14 in Belgrade, Serbia. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked to recall a funny story involving late MOTÖRHEAD mainman Lemmy Kilmister, Igor said: "One time we were on tour with MOTÖRHEAD. I like to draw; I draw little caricatures of people's faces, kind of funny stuff. So I used to draw Lemmy in different places in the venue — like in the [backstage area], I would do Lemmy on the table or in the toilet, I would [draw] Lemmy. But I would never sign it; I'd just leave it there. And then one time I was somewhere in the venue and then Lemmy came in, and he was, like, 'Hey, I heard that you did the drawings of my face.' And I was, like, 'Yeah.' I didn't know how to say 'No.' And he was, like, 'You have a sick sense of humor.' And he gave me his book, 'White Line Fever'. And he was, like, 'Merry Christmas.' And I was, like, 'Wow!' And he wrote something like, 'Igor, you bastard,' or something like that. He was such a great guy. "

Igor went on to pay tribute to another late MOTÖRHEAD member, drummer Philthy "Animal" Taylor, who died in November 2015 of liver failure. He said: "We had a chance to do a lot of tours with MOTÖRHEAD, some really cool ones. I remember even having a chance to watch MOTÖRHEAD with Phil 'Animal' Taylor on drums on one of the tours we did. It was really cool. Like, in Germany, they did a Christmas tour, and I was, like, tripping on it: 'Man, this guy is my idol.' I was, like, 'Fuck!' And I was really sad when he died, 'cause he was, like, for me, one of the coolest drummers. For a drummer, I think if you like fast beats with hardcore and rock, I think Animal was one of the first guys to speed things up. He was the coolest."

Igor and his brother, former SEPULTURA member Max Cavalera (guitar, vocals), are celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the band's classic album "Roots" by performing the LP in its entirety on a European tour. They are joined by their CAVALERA CONSPIRACY bandmates Marc Rizzo (guitar) and Johny Chow (bass).

ALICE COOPER On Getting NITA STRAUSS To Join His Band:

ALICE COOPER On Getting NITA STRAUSS To Join His Band: 'I Needed A Shredder'

Musician's Friend conducted an interview with legendary rocker Alice Cooper and his guitarist Nita Strauss at the Magnolia Hotel in Houston, Texas in August 2016. You can now watch the chat below.

Speaking about how he got Nita to join his band, Alice said: "We're doing a MÖTLEY CRÜE tour. I've got two rock and roll guitar players with Ryan Roxie and Tommy Henriksen. I need a shredder. I really need a shredder. And then somebody came in [and suggested Nita]. I heard her play, and I went, 'That's what we want right there. That's exactly what we want.'"

Nita said about the experience of playing with Cooper: "So many of my heroes were in Alice Cooper's band. I didn't even know some of these guys were in the Alice Cooper band until joined the band and I looked on Wikipedia and I saw all these names. And then I saw, at the bottom of the list, there was my name at the bottom of the list, and I was, like, 'That's cool.'"

Strauss is a longtime Ibanez signature series endorsee who made her name with THE IRON MAIDENS, FEMME FATALE and LA Kiss.

Nita joined Cooper's band in 2014 as the replacement for Orianthi.

In a recent interview with Jammcard, Nita spoke about how she got the gig with Cooper. She said: "I did my first round of video auditions, and I just thought, 'I'm gonna smash it! I'll knock it out of the park. I'm gonna pull out every stop, playing over the neck, doing all kinds of stuff, playing upside down.' You know, [I thought I would] play every trick I know, every cool, crazy, demented lick I know. And I sent it over. It was two songs, which are about four or five minutes each. So it should have taken them ten minutes to watch the whole package and think about it. I think [Cooper producer Bob] Ezrin called me within three minutes. He was, like, 'This is not what we want at all.' I think his exact words were, 'Can you do anything else?'"

She continued: "Looking back at it now, ALICE COOPER is a classic rock band, and it was so unwarranted what I did. But I wanted to show off. So I said, 'Now that I know what you want, can you give me another shot?' I can't believe they gave me three shots at it. So that just goes to show you, kids — personality goes a long way."

Nita added: "A big part of the ALICE COOPER sound is the big classic rock licks, the big, classic thematic kind of… It's not about going crazy, it's not about playing super fast. There's great times for that, but it's about really sitting back and listening to the song and letting the song breathe. And that was a big lesson for me in this camp."

METALLICA

METALLICA's LARS ULRICH Looks Back On CLIFF BURTON's Death: 'We Didn't Know What Hit Us'

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke to Seattle's KISW 99.9 radio station about the 30th anniversary of the tragic loss of the band's bass player Cliff Burton when METALLICA's tour bus skidded on ice while the group was on tour in Scandinavia and Cliff was thrown out the window and crushed. Lars said (hear audio below): "We were so shocked and stunned that we didn't know what hit us. And, like most, I guess, kids in their early 20s who get ambushed with that type of thing, we jumped into a bottle of, in this case, vodka, for me, and stayed in there for quite some time. We weren't mature enough or seasoned in life enough to know how to deal with this other than just to sort of, basically, almost hide behind the alcohol and compartmentalized it. So the next few months were very difficult, and it was crazy, but we just put the blinders on and started auditioning bass players. And we knew in our hearts that Cliff would be the first one to kick us in the ass and tell us to keep going, if he could see us mope. And so there was no moping; we just kept going the best we knew how to."

METALLICA frontman James Hetfield was asked in a recent interview with TeamRock what he thinks Burton might have thought about the drastic changes in its look and sound that METALLICA made through the 1990s and early 2000s with albums like "Load", "Reload" and "St. Anger". Hetfield replied: "Well, I certainly would have thought there would have been some resistance, for sure. I think the 'Black Album' was a great album and I appreciate the fact that we did have the balls to do that… I would certainly think that the 'Load' and 'Reload' [era], I would have had an ally that was very against it all — the reinvention or the U2 version of METALLICA."

Asked if Hetfield was personally comfortable with the more "alternative" image and music METALLICA made on those albums, the singer/guitarist replied: "No, no, not at all. There’s some great, great songs on there but my opinion is that all of the imagery and stuff like that was not necessary. And the amount of songs that were written was… it diluted the potency of the poison of METALLICA. And I think Cliff would have agreed with that."

Following the "Load"/"Reload" albums and tour, METALLICA went into a tailspin that resulted in the exit of bassist Jason Newsted, Hetfield spending the better part of a year in rehab and the band nearly splitting up.

METALLICA returned to a heavier style more reminiscent of its early albums on 2008's "Death Magnetic", while its new disc, "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct", arrived last week.

A DAY TO REMEMBER Comments On Legal Victory Over Former Record Label

A DAY TO REMEMBER Comments On Legal Victory Over Former Record Label

A DAY TO REMEMBER has emerged victorious in its lengthy legal battle with its former record label and has been awarded $4 million in unpaid royalties from digital download and merchandise sales.

The Florida-based band sued Victory Records in 2011 for a breach of contract, claiming that they had fulfilled the terms of a five-album deal. Victory, however, argued that the group left the label before fulfilling that commitment, insisting that the band only recorded three of the five required albums: "For Those Who Have Heart", "Homesick" and "What Separates Me From You".

After a two-week jury trial and a day and a half of deliberations, an eight-person jury in Illinois decided in A DAY TO REMEMBER's favor, agreeing that some of the recordings made by the band — the band's two filmed concerts released on iTunes — did count towards the five-album total. The jury also gave the band the composition rights to their songs, while Victory was awarded the sound recording copyrights.

In a statement, the band said: "As many of you know, more than five years years ago, we filed a lawsuit against Victory Records seeking freedom and resolution on several issues we had with them. For the past two weeks, we have been in court arguing our case. Yesterday the jury came back with a unanimous verdict in the trial granting us that freedom and resolution.

"Thank you to the fan base for supporting us through this difficult time; we couldn't have done this without you. This isn't just a victory for us but also a victory for every band wronged over the years. Right doesn't always win, but yesterday it did."

A DAY TO REMEMBER's latest album, "Bad Vibrations", came out in September.

METALLICA's KIRK HAMMETT Praises GOJIRA: They Are 'The Best Thing I've Heard In A Long Time'

METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett told Malay Mail Online in a recent interview that he remains supportive of younger generations of heavy metal artists. He is fond of LAMB OF GOD, saying he has "high hopes" for the group every time it releases an album. He also praised French progressive metallers GOJIRA, saying that they were "the best thing I've heard in a long time. I love their new album," he said. "I think it's an incredible piece of art. It's heavy, it's vibey, it's moody. It has all the things you want to hear — great complex rhythms, great drumming, great riffs, great songs."

Hammett previously singled out Swedish metallers MESHUGGAH as a band that was doing something different from the rest of the pack. He said in a 2002 interview: "You know, I think MESHUGGAH is brilliant. A lot of that extreme stuff doesn't make much sense to me, but when I heard MESHUGGAH, and everybody was talking about them at Ozzfest, I just sort of... I just respect it a lot. That type of stuff, it's not something that I listen to on a daily basis, but it's interesting to me. And there's not a lot of metal stuff that is that interesting. But like MESHUGGAH, that's really fucking interesting. You sit there and say, how does he actually play that on drums? And then you start getting into like, well, does he actually play that on drums? [Laughs] But it sits in a very different place compared to anything else I've heard."

The guitarist echoed those comments earlier this year after joining MESHUGGAH on stage in San Jose, California during the second installment of his annual horror-themed Fear FestEvil. He said: "They're one of the best metal bands out there for a variety of reasons, man. In terms of technique and virtuosity, in terms of originality, there's no precedent before MESHUGGAH. They have set a precedent, and they are so unique. It's almost 'Dada-esque.' I know I'm using a lot of big fifty-cent words here, but it's the only way I can really explain how I think and how I feel about them."

METALLICA's latest album, "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct", was released on November 18 through the band's own Blackened Recordings.

WRVTH Unveil “Cease To Exist” Video

WRVTH Unveil “Cease To Exist” Video

Atmospheric tech death collective Wrvth has issuesd the confounding video accompaniment to the track "Cease To Exist". The tune comes by way of the band's self-titled full-length release via Unique Leader Records.

Elaborates bassist Taylor Preston of the fiery clip, "We decided to work with Cory Davis of Yellowbox Films again for 'Cease To Exist,' as we loved the work he did for our music video 'Malaise.' This song is the closing track to our self-titled release and it is fitting as it is also our closer for the year, musically speaking. As far as the creation goes, we wrote every part of the music to fit the lyrics. We put all our heads together to form something that we all felt was as fitting as it was meaningful. Even though the song has a seemingly straightforward interpretation, this song means something very different for every person in the band. We didn't write the song with a mindset of writing something relatable, in fact the events that inspired the song are all very specific and personal to each of us. We gave Cory the lyrics and artistic freedom to form a visual representation of the emotions in this song based on his own interpretation and the feelings the song may incite."

Tracked at SharkBite/Castle Ultimate Studios by Zack Ohren (Suffocation, Fallujah, All Shall Perish), Wrvth features a guest appearance from Daniel Casares of Bay Area jazz group, Atta Kid, on saxophone and continues to astound the ears of fans and critics globally for its expert balance of beauty and brutality.
