SLAYER's KERRY KING On 'Repentless': 'Some Of These Songs Are Classics Already'SLAYER guitarist Kerry King says that he expects to get some flak from the band's followers for releasing a new studio album without two of SLAYER's founding members, but believes that "the die-hard fans are gonna love it."
Due on September 11, SLAYER's new CD, "Repentless", will mark the band's first effort without both co-founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who passed away in 2013, and original drummer Dave Lombardo, who was fired from the group earlier that same year.
"I expect some backlash," King admitted to Music Radar. "I expect some people saying, 'It's not SLAYER, Jeff's not in it. Dave's not in it.' But you can't say it's not AC/DC because Bon Scott isn't in the band! I think the die-hard fans are gonna love it."
Even though SLAYER has yet to perform most of the "Repentless" songs in front of an audience, King is adamant that the new material stands up to the band's earlier efforts.
"Some of these songs are classics already," he says. "One of my favorites is 'Take Control'. That song is Riff City. Just when you think you've heard them all, another one pops up!"
Asked if felt a lot of stress and pressure when composing "Repentless" knowing that he had to create it without one of SLAYER's main songwriters there to provide that input and influence he has leaned on for more than thirty years, King told OC Weekly: "I didn't because I started working on it a lot earlier. I started working on this album when Jeff first got hurt. Had I not started working until Jeff passed, yeah, that would've been a whole different story. I started two-plus years before that. I didn't know if he was going to come back, how much he was going to contribute if anything. I took it upon myself to assume he had nothing and went from there."
According to Kerry, Hanneman served as the inspiration for the "Repentless" title track. "Once I got the chorus done, I decided to make it kind of a Jeff tribute, kind of like from the perspective of how I saw Jeff's outlook on life," King told The Press Enterprise. "Maybe it helped me get over it, maybe it will help the fans heal a little bit." 11

NAPALM DEATH: Previously Unreleased Song 'Earthwire' Made Available As Charity Download For NepalA previously unreleased NAPALM DEATH song, which was recorded during the sessions for the band's latest album, "Apex Predator - Easy Meat", has been made available as a charity download for Nepal. Check out the track "Earthwire" at this location.
Says NAPALM DEATH frontman Mark "Barney" Greenway: "Having been fortunate to be invited to Kathmandu just over three years ago to play a gig, I remember fondly the unique, enriching experience that it gave us as a band.
"When you're bouncing from continent to continent in short spaces of time, it might be very easy to become complacent to where you process all those continents through the same perceptive filter. I think you owe it those who receive you — and to yourself — to have a deeper sense of understanding.
"Nepal, therefore, seemed not only a place of striking beauty, but also a tougher place for things that you would normally take for granted, e.g. a stage to play on and a place for a concert festival. A wider viewing revealed such grim inequalities — in comparison to the wider world — as people living in holes at the side of the road, which then actually became one of the reference points for our current album, 'Apex Predator - Easy Meat'.
"When the earthquake struck on the 25th April 2015, I recalled the general frailty of the buildings in Kathmandu (something which you see on several continents where deprivation makes everyday habitation a very hazardous experience) and could already imagine the consequences — I didn't necessarily need to view the inevitable volume of TV / internet footage.
"Shane [Embury], our bass player, was already thinking of what NAPALM DEATH could do to alleviate things in our own small way and knowing that Bill Gould from FAITH NO MORE had been involved in the region, Shane was kindly directed by him to the DZI. We like the fact that the community has an overriding hand in deciding how to best use resources, and the spirit of independence that the DZI encourages is something that runs in parallel with the ethos of NAPALM DEATH.
"We therefore present an exclusive track from the aforementioned album session written by our guitarist, Mitch Harris — to raise funds for the work and resources required through the DZI. The lyrics can be interpreted in several different ways, but to me they signify acknowledging and embracing humanity beyond the relentless march of technology. Perhaps somewhat apt here.
"Please give what you can to aid the rebuilding of people's lives — and bathe in the sonic extremity." 3

Video Premiere: STEVEN TYLER's 'Love Is Your Name'The official video for AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler's first country single, "Love Is Your Name", can be seen below. The clip, which was filmed just outside Nashville, was previewed this morning on ABC's "Good Morning America" before it went live online.
"Love Is Your Name" recently landed at position No. 33 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart (dated May 30). The track, written by Lindsey Lee and Eric Paslay, was aided by hourly plays on participating iHeartMedia stations in its first day of release (May 13); Tyler also performed the song that night on the season finale of Fox's "American Idol".
Tyler, who recently signed to Dot Records underneath the Big Machine Label Group umbrella (Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw), issued the single across multiple media properties and is promoting the track with exclusive interviews.
Tyler revealed to USA Today that he won't get a chance to complete his solo album until after AEROSMITH finishes a two-month North American tour that kicked off on June 13 in Glendale, Arizona.
"I've got to find time to come back and record these songs after the AEROSMITH tour," Tyler said. "But I flit from flower to flower, country to country, looking for good times and singing about the last time. That's what I'm putting into the country songs."
"Love Is Your Name" was recorded at the famed Blackbird Studios in Nashville with producer Dann Huff.
In a statement Tyler said that, "The first day in the studio I recorded a song that became my first single, and if 'Love is Your Name' then Nashville's my new girlfriend. I guess you could call that Beginner's Luck."
AEROSMITH's summer tour includes a performance at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Concert For Legends on August 7 in Canton, Ohio. 2

THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA Feat. SOILWORK, ARCH ENEMY Members: 'Stiletto' Performance Video"Stiletto", the new performance video from THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA — the classic-rock band featuring Björn Strid (SOILWORK) and Sharlee D' Angelo (ARCH ENEMY, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS) — can be seen below. The song is taken from THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA's second studio album, "Skyline Whispers", which was released on June 9 via Coroner Records. The CD was recorded at Nordic Sound Lab Studios in Skara, Sweden, was engineered by THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA and Bengan Andersson, was mixed by Sebastian Forslund and mastered by Thomas Plec Johansson at Panic Room Studios in Skara.
"Skyline Whispers" track listing:
01. Sail On02. Living For The Nighttime03. Stiletto04. Owaranai Palisades05. Lady Jade06. I Ain’t Old, I Ain’t Young07. All the Ladies08. Spanish Ghosts09. Demon Princess10. Skyline Whispers11. Roads Less Traveled12. The Heather Reports13. Floridian Eyes (exclusive digipak bonus track)
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA last year announced the addition of Sebastian Forslund (KADAWATHA) on congas, percussion and guitar.
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA started like so many others as an innocent yet serious drunken idea when Strid and David Andersson (MEAN STREAK, session musician for SOILWORK) were on the road together somewhere in North America in 2007. Björn and David were bonding over what they considered "classic" or not, from rock and roll conspiracies to being arrested in a lobby with nothing but leather pants on. All those scenarios, fictional or real, needed a soundtrack. They also came to think that whether you're on a metal tour or not, a lot of classic rock songs say it all and can really lend you a helping hand and make you forget about everything, especially when in motion or travelling. The classic escape. The never-ending road trip. The transatlantic night flight. It may sound simple and naive, but what it all comes down to is that we all need that soundtrack to feel extra special, whether you have been arrested in a lobby or not.
It didn't take long before bass player D' Angelo joined forces as well as keyboard player Richard Larsson (VON BENZO) and drummer Jonas Källsbäck (MEAN STREAK). The goal was to reclaim the '70s/early '80s sense for classic melody, the forgotten recipe to a timeless song, preferably a song mentioning a city, street name or an exhilarating alcoholic beverage. Anything that will have you spitting out the word "classic." From "Tarot Woman" to "Badlands", from "Rhiannon" to "Running on Empty", from "Blind Man" to "Night Moves", from "Deuce" to "Separate Ways", from "Elected" to "Set me Free". The list goes on. It's all about reclaiming the "classic."
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA made its live debut in August, 2013 at Dina-scenen in Lidköping, Sweden.
THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA is:
Björn "Speed" Strid (SOILWORK) - VocalsDavid Andersson (SOILWORK, MEAN STREAK) - GuitarSharlee D'Angelo (ARCH ENEMY, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS) - BassRichard Larsson (VON BENZO) - KeyboardsJonas Källsbäck (MEAN STREAK, ORCHID) - Drums 1

New MISFITS Lineup To Release 'Zombie Girl' / 'Vampire Girl' SingleThe MISFITS recently played four shows on the West Coast in preview of a new lineup and the band's fall 2015 tour plans. As some fiends may have heard, guitarist Dez Cadena (formerly of BLACK FLAG), is no longer in the band. Jerry Only's son, Jerry Jr., has stepped into the position on guitar joining his father's side, and Eric "Chupacabra" Arce remains on drums. Dez began with the 'FITS as a special guest on the 25th-anniversary tour in 2001, and shortly after became the permanent guitarist through to present.
The first official studio material from the new lineup will surface this fall in the form of the single "Zombie Girl" b/w "Vampire Girl" — two fiendish new songs written by MISFITS founding member Jerry Only.
This fall see the MISFITS revisit the "Static Age" — live! Fronted by Jerry Only (bass/vocals), the MISFITS 2015 lineup will perform the classic 1977 debut album, "Static Age", in its entirety — live in concert — nationwide! Each and every song from the historic release will be performed live, in album sequence, accompanied by video monitor backdrops orchestrated by Jerry Only himself. Revisit the "Static Age" live in concert, plus hear a full set of fiendish favorites from the band's cryptic catalog — past, present and future!
As a special incentive, offering a second consecutive night's residency of the band's performance at select participating venues on the fall 2015 tour, classic-era albums "Walk Among Us" and "Earth A.D." will be performed back to back in their entirety — live in concert. Each and every song from both historic releases performed live within one set, in album sequence — but only at the second consecutive night's performance at participating cities this fall.
In related news, Jerry Only has overseen the creation and formation of a new all-girl rock band of SHE DEMONS. The five-piece made its live debut opening for the MISFITS recent West Coast dates and will appear as the opener on all dates of the MISFITS fall 2015 North American tour. The SHE DEMONS are in the process of recording their studio debut, which features new original songs written specifically for the project by Jerry Only. Their debut album is slated to be available at the fall tour. 2

LEPROUS: 'Slave' Lyric Video ReleasedThe official lyric video for the song "Slave" from Norwegian progressive metallers LEPROUS can be seen below (created by Costin Chioreanu of Twilight 13 Media). The track is taken from the band's latest studio album, "The Congregation", which came out on May 25 in Europe and June 2 in North America via InsideOut Music. The drums, guitars and bass for the follow-up to 2013's "Coal" were recorded at Sweden's Fascination Street and Ghostward Studios with David Castillo (KATATONIA, OPETH) and the vocals with Heidi Solberg Tveitan and Vegard Tveitan at Mnemosyne Studios in Norway. Just like the preceding albums, "Bilateral" and "Coal", "The Congregation" was mixed by Jens Bogren (OPETH, SYMPHONY X, KREATOR) at Fascination Street.
Commented LEPROUS's Einar Solberg on "Slave": "I would say that 'Slave' is one of the most emotional tracks of the album. The foundation is simple, but the content is rich." The CD's cover artwork, which was created by artist Nihil, can be seen below.
The track listing for the 65-minute effort is as follows: 01. The Price02. Third Law03. Rewind04. The Flood05. Triumphant06. Within My Fence07. Red08. Slave09. Moon10. Down11. Lower
The video for the opening track, "The Price", can be seen below. The clip was directed by David Solbjørg and Kjetil Kolbjørnsrud of Twitchy Films.
Commented LEPROUS: "'The Price' was the obvious choice for us to make a video of. It's straight to the point, technical, focused, catchy and shows a new side of LEPROUS.
"We're very happy to be working with Twitchy Films also this time, and they've done a impeccable job creating an atmospheric and artistic video clip."
"The Congregation" will be available as standard jewelcase CD, digital download as well as limited import mediabook CD and 2LP editions. Physical versions feature bonus track "Pixel". LEPROUS vocalist and keyboard player Einar Solberg commented: "This has without doubt been the most challenging album to write so far, if you count the amount of hours, blood, sweat and tears behind it. Which makes me extra proud to just have delivered the master of what I consider to be the most daring, technical, fresh and mature album we've ever done.
"The music of 'The Congregation' is mostly written by me on my computer, so that this time around I could use my ears instead of my knowledge as the main writing tool. If you use your knowledge and your usual methods to write every album, you will eventually find yourself stuck in a quagmire of old habits. Lyrically, 'The Congregation' covers the dangers and consequences of blindly following the flow, thus the album title will speak for itself."
LEPROUS is:

The CD was mixed at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd and was mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street. The album's cover artwork was once again created by POWERWOLF guitarist Matthew Greywolf.

Said POWERWOLF drummer Roel Van Helden: "Like most of us, I began listening to metal when I was 11 years old. Later I discovered THIN LIZZY, who, just like IRON MAIDEN, had a big influence on me. I still love to spin Gary Moore's records while having a good glass of wine. Also his blues phases were genius!"
"Blessed & Possessed" track listing:

The band said about "Army Of The Night": "'Army Of The Night' is one of the many songs of 'Blessed & Possessed' we can't wait to perform live. Already the very first time we played that song during the songwriting, the energy and dynamics literally blew us away and we felt like this is going to be a must-play. While many of the songs on 'Blessed & Possessed' are very detailed and elaborated, this one is probably one of straightest and most compact POWERWOLF songs to date."
POWERWOLF's fifth album, "Preachers Of The Night", entered the official chart in Germany at position No. 1. The CD was released in July 2013 via Napalm Records.
POWERWOLF's first live album, "Alive In The Night", was recorded exclusively for Metal Hammer, Germany's leading metal magazine. The CD was only available with the April 2012 issue of Metal Hammer. 5

DEIPHAGO Streaming New Track “Serpentine Antiworld”Deiphago - one of the most violent bands on the planet - are set to release their fourth album, Into The Eye Of Satan, on August 7th via Hells Headbangers. The new track “Serpentine Antiworld” can now be heard streaming below.
Each Deiphago album has seen the Filipino power-trio push the furthest reaches of musical extremity, marking a place in time in their demonic development whilst creating a monument for all perpetuity. Into The Eye Of Satan is no different in this respect: founding demons Voltaire 666 (bass bulldozers and black vomits) and Sidapa (crasheraxe and leads) are once again joined by Savnok on deathhammers, picking up where they left off with Satan Alpha Omega in 2012.
With this lineup now solidified, Deiphago sought to create a new, defiling standard and went in search of esteemed producer Colin Marston (Gorguts) to man the recording console. And with the perfect amount of clarity and chaos, grit and gleam, Marston was able to capture Deiphago at their most defiant sonically, rendering Into The Eye Of Satan in pulverizing detail. But recording is nothing if not built upon a foundation of fiery creativity, and indeed do Deiphago distance themselves from the feeble black/death metal scene of today. In essence owing more to avant-garde composition than rote "extreme metal," Into The Eye Of Satan explodes with an angularity that's truly extreme, even for them. Sidapa's mind-melting solos, in particular, play a huge part in guiding the listener toward literally insane ends.
As ever, the combined crush 'n' sulfurous surge Deiphago so effortlessly harness is characteristically ultra-violent beyond compare. And in this case, in 2015, it is Into The Eye Of Satan that Deiphago lead us... Hear where it leads next with the newly revealed track,

Video Premiere: PERZONAL WAR's 'Metalizer'"Metalizer", the new live performance video from German thrash metallers PERZONAL WAR, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's latest studio album, "The Last Sunset", which came out on June 23 via Metalville Records.
As the band triumphantly gravitate towards their 20th year together, the long-awaited follow up to 2012's "Captive Breeding" sees the quartet at the top of their game. Recorded at Gernhart Studio in Troisdorf, Germany with drummer Martin Buchwalter at the controls (Buchwalter's credits include working with and recording albums for DESTRUCTION, SUIDAKRA, TANKARD), "The Last Sunset" is the most versatile album of the band's career. Beneath well-known PERZONAL WAR hooks and riffs, for which the band have been highly praised by the press, fans can expect the band exploring new sounds as well. "When compared to previous PERZONAL WAR releases, 'The Last Sunset' goes a bit back to the roots," says vocalist Matthias Zimmer. "We set out to create a good balance of heavy riffing and great melodies and took a more straight-to-the-face approach rather than a technical one." Albums such as "Different But The Same" (2002) and "Faces" (2004) put the group on the map and displayed the big influence that bands like METALLICA had on the PERZONAL WAR sound. PERZONAL WAR have found their own ultimate mixture of staying true to their roots but still evolve and walk through life without blinders, and their fresh, modern style befit fans of IN FLAMES, SOILWORK and MERCENARY. "The Last Sunset" track listing:
01. Salvation02. Speed Of Time03. 30 Years04. Never Look Back05. Metalizer06. When Faith Has Gone Forever07. What Would You Say08. The Last Sunset09. Times Of Hate10. I See Nothing

DEFTONES Singer CHINO MORENO's TEAM SLEEP: New Version Of 'Ever (Foreign Flag)' StreamingTEAM SLEEP, the side project of DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno, has premiered the new version of the "Ever (Foreign Flag)". The track, which can be streamed below, was captured last fall during the band's live/in-studio sessions at the Applehead Recording studio in Woodstock, New York. Due on July 10 via LP/CD, the "Woodstock Sessions" will be the collective's first official release in over 10 years!
An experimental and at times unclassifiable amalgamation of styles, TEAM SLEEP's loose roster includes Moreno, Chuck Doom (CROSSES), CrookOne, Rick Verret and Todd Wilkinson. New to the fold and manning the drum throne for the forthcoming album is Gil Sharone (of MARILYN MANSON and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN fame).
Since their self-titled debut in 2005, the group has only sporadically reconvened for touring and demo recording. However, in October 2014, TEAM SLEEP descended on Applehead Studios to record "Woodstock Sessions Vol. 4". The album will include powerful reworkings of the band's classic material as well as official versions of songs heretofore only appeared in demo form.
As is the format for "Woodstock Sessions" events, a live audience attended the two-day session and watched the band compose, perform and record the album.
With this premiere, TEAM SLEEP is also announcing that several other releases are in the works for them. These will include a series of studio and instrumental EPs. Select live shows are also on the itinerary for the near future.
The "Woodstock Sessions" produce events that are a hybrid between audience-attended recording sessions and live performance. The products of these sessions are unique recordings and the ultimate fan experience. Sessions have included Rich Robinson (BLACK CROWES) and the BAD BRAINS.

Australian Riff Lords AVER Sign With Ripple Music; New Album Due In NovemberRipple Music has announced the signing of Australia’s Aver, and with it the official, international release of their sophomore album, Nadir.
Originally self-released earlier in the year to an online fanfare from a dedicated few amid the stoner/psych community, the album has already proven itself to be one of the most exciting and distinctive records of 2015. Fearlessly taking their music exactly where it needs to go, and packing enough technical nous and talent to power an exploratory vessel of sound and substance, at over an hour in length Nadir exposes listeners to soaring instrumentals, heavy psychedelia and spine-crushing progressive cadences.
Weighted somewhere between the worlds, galaxies and supernovae of stoner metal and space rock, for the quartet – who originally formed on the Northern shores of Sydney back in 2008 – their signing to the Californian label heralds yet another stellar addition to the ever growing Ripple Music Family, and the beginning of a journey out of the underground and into the void.
While an official release date for the album will follow soon, in the meantime, sit back, strap yourselves in and take a trip with “Rising Sun”, streaming below:

FIN’AMOR Streaming New Album In Full Ahead Of ReleaseFin'amor was founded in the fall of 2008 by guitarist Julian Chuzhik, vocalist Benjamin Meyerson, and keyboardist/bassist Nodar Khutortsov, as an ambitious effort to manifest a sound inspired by the sorrow and down-tempo of doom, the atmosphere and orchestration of Goth, the versatility of progressive, and the strength and resolution of death. This fusion manifested itself as a breath of fresh air to the members: an independent style that bleeds passion and sets itself apart from popularized variants found in metal, while retaining the identity it garnered from its raw origins.
The band is set to venture from the New York scene in the summer, beginning with the release of their debut full-length album. The album Forbidding Mourning explores themes of hope, despite a despairing existence, the paradoxical nature of love, and the desolation of apathy. Moving forward, the collective expects to further evolve and introduce new elements into the polyphony during their continuous composition process.
Forbidding Mourning will be released on July 7th and is available for pre-order bundle packages on Bandcamp. An advanced album stream can be found below.

MICHAEL AMOTT's SPIRITUAL BEGGARS To Record New Album In SeptemberSPIRITUAL BEGGARS — the Swedish band featuring ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott and bassist Sharlee D'Angelo, along with vocalist Apollo Papathanasio (ex-FIREWIND) — recently wrapped three days of days of rehearsals and writing, which resulted in fifteen new original songs and two covers.
Speaking to Kaaos TV, Amott stated about the sessions: "Yeah, I just did three days of rehearsals and writing with the guys. Per [Wiberg], who used to be… the keyboarder, used to be in OPETH, and my drummer. So, yeah, we had a great time writing and recording some demos and ideas. We're actually going into a real studio in September and we're gonna track and album. I just booked, like, one week in the studio, and that's gonna be it, basically. So we have to be efficient. But it's that kind of music. We're just gonna track it live on the floor and do some overdubs, and that'll be that."
He continued: "[We came up with] over fifteen songs. I don't know what's gonna make the album. I think we're just gonna record everything, and if there's anything that doesn't turn out to our liking, we've still got an album's worth of material."
Regarding the musical direction of the new SPIRITUAL BEGGARS material, Amott said: "It sounds very lively, a lot of energy, a lot of… some good hooks, good melodies. It sounds very rocking. I'm very happy with it."
He continued: "It's in [the] vein [of 2013's 'Earth Blues']. We got a lot of good feedback on that album — a lot of people liked that album from us — and it's continuing with that sound."
SPIRITUAL BEGGARS reissued two of its classic catalog titles on October 14, 2013: the band's 2005 "Demons" album was made available for the first time ever on vinyl via InsideOut Music; and their acclaimed and hard-to-find debut LP, the self-titled "Spiritual Beggars" from 1994, was re-released with over 70 minutes of unreleased bonus material via Century Media Records.

And now the album’s lead track, “Canadian Questionmark”, can be heard streaming below.
Initially dubbed The Pulls, a recent change of direction has forged a new cover layout and title for the album, which is now called, Paris Is Mine. Through several lineup alterations and sporadic expansions, the usual three-piece bass, guitar and drums lineup of The Oxford Coma at times radically expands for live shows to include a second drummer, and for the first time on record, this time the tactic was applied in the studio setting. Utilizing both a former and current percussionist, and continuing their self-described recording "de-evolution" - continuing to opt for rawer, live, DIY productions with each release - through several sessions, ended up with their most corrosive and unreserved material to date. Bent on combining the weirdness and freshness of improvisation with the intensity and honesty of good metal and the lasting impact of innovative rock, the new album was produced with minimal production, the vocals all in one take in order to preserve a natural feel. Recorded, engineered, mixed, mastered by Jalipaz at Audioconfusion in Mesa, Arizona, Paris Is Mine delivers forty minutes of exploratory thunder as perplexing as it is enthralling, even closing out with an improvised jam and a drop-tuned cover of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks."
Paris Is Mine will be independently released digitally on August 11th, with a limited physical format to follow. Stand by for additional info from the record, audio samples, an official video, tour dates and more to be released throughout the weeks ahead.

“Canadian Questionmark”:
From the scorching Southwestern US underground music scene comes the indefinable works of The Oxford Coma, an outfit which rides the fine line between rock and metal, experimental and straightforward, and even being a trio or quartet, and which has steadily pumped out a hearty discography of independent releases since their 2011 inception. Powered and endorsed by Orange amps, and drawing from a wide array of influences from across the spectrum of forward-thinking rock artists, bridging the early days and modern times, comparisons to the improvisational prog rock circles of the 1960s and '70s to premier extreme acts of the 1990s through today, the collective recorded output of this morphing act has drawn similarities to everything from early Tool to Primus, Radiohead to The Dillinger Escape Plan, Nirvana to Neurosis, King Crimson to Kyuss, and so on.

THE 3RD ATTEMPT Featuring Former CARPATHIAN FOREST Guitarists Reveal New Album Details; “Art Of Domination” Track StreamingWhen, in late 2014, guitarists Tchort and BloodPervertor announced that they were leaving black metal titans Carpathian Forest to form their own band, The 3rd Attempt, there were some who questioned the wisdom of leaving the safety of such an iconic band in order to start something new. But, less than a year later, on September 25th, Dark Essence Records is set to release the band's debut full-length album Born In Thorns, which will show just how right the two renowned guitarists were in deciding to leave an environment they felt had become stale and stifling, in order to feel the rush of creativity and enthusiasm once again.
As a taste of what to expect from Born In Thorns, the track "Art Of Domination" can be heard below.
Barely drawing breath after their announcement, Tchort (Green Carnation, ex-Carpathian Forest, ex-Emperor, ex-Blood Red Throne) and BloodPervertor (ex-Carpathian Forest) chose Ødemark (ex-Midnattsvrede) as their vocalist, following online auditions that elicited responses from both experienced and new vocalists from all over the world. The lineup was then completed with the addition of drummer Tybalt (Fortid, Den Saakaldte) whose performance as a session drummer for The 3rd Attempt at this year's Blastfest convinced the others that he was the man for the job.
With producer Endre Kirkesola, known for his work with Carpathian Forest, Blood Red Throne, Green Carnation, Urgehal, Tsjuder, at the helm, The 3rd Attempt entered the Studio Sanden in Kristiansand to record Born In Thorns. Mixing and mastering was done by Marius Strand at the Strand Studio. This is an album that showcases the well-known writing skills of the two founders, as well as contributions from the new members, and turns the old-school Black Metal vibe up several notches by introducing different elements, including rock n roll/black n roll, to produce a unique take on the classic black metal sound, giving it a fresh feeling and a distinctive groove.
Born In Thorns artwork was created by Jon Tønnessen.
Tracklisting:
“Torment Nation”
“Dark Vision”
“Art Of Domination”
“We Defy”
“Born In Thorns”

IRON MAIDEN's STEVE HARRIS: BRUCE DICKINSON Is 'Singing Better Than Ever' On 'The Book Of Souls'In a brand new interview with U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine, IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris was asked if singer Bruce Dickinson's cancer diagnosis at the end of 2014 affected the recording of the band's new album, "The Book Of Souls".
"Well, it didn't at all, because Bruce didn't know and none of us knew anything about… There was no inkling of any of it," Steve said. "He'd finished all his vocal bits completely anyway, and then there were some other bits and pieces we were doing. Really, we didn't know anything — he didn't show any signs at all. I mean, his singing, when you hear it… He's singing better than ever."
He continued: "It didn't cause any problems in that department at all. He wasn't showing any signs of being ill. I didn't even know until a few weeks afterwards, when he got his results back. It was such a shock to him and everybody else, because it just wasn't expected at all."
Harris declined to discuss how the rest of MAIDEN coped with Dickinson's diagnosis, telling the magazine: "It's such a personal matter for Bruce and the band that I don't think now is the time to talk about it. It's Bruce's story to tell when he feels the time is right. The one thing I can say is that Bruce is a trooper and more than ready for the next chapter of IRON MAIDEN. What matters now is that we've got an album coming out that I think our fans are going to love and we're all excited to share with them."
Due globally on September 4 through Parlophone Records (Sanctuary Copyrights/BMG in the U.S.), "The Book Of Souls" was recorded in Paris, France with producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from the tumor, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album's launch.
Looking ahead to the touring cycle in support of "The Book Of Souls", Harris told Kerrang!: "Whenever we do a new album, we always go out with a new stage show; that's exciting in itself. We always feel like every show is sacred these days anyway, and I suppose even more so now after the scare with what's happened with Bruce. It makes everything more important to us."
He continued: "'The Book Of Souls' is a really powerful album, we're really proud of it, and we can't wait to come out and play new songs on the tour. We're really looking forward to it." 21

BUTCHER BABIES' HEIDI SHEPHERD Thanks 'Naysayers' For Giving Her A 'Kick In The Ass'Heavy Metal Artwork conducted an interview with BUTCHER BABIES singer Heidi Shepherd and guitarist Henry Flury at the 2015 edition of the U.K.'s Download festival, which was held last month in Donington Park. You can now watch the chat below.
Speaking about the endless amount of online hate that has been directed at the BUTCHER BABIES since the release of the band's debut album, "Goliath", Heidi said: "The naysayers are the ones that push me the hardest. I was always that kid who… I had this teacher in junion high that told my mom that I would never be successful at something. Like, what a jerk! Right?! And so I was, like, 'Yeah. Fuck that!' And I so I got great grades. I was an athlete. Sometimes people are, like, 'Oh, no. You're too short to high jump.'… People who tell me 'no,' I'm going to do it. So thank you to the naysayers."
Heidi went on to say that she has used negative motivation to make a positive impact on her life. "You have to," she explained. "As a human, you have to. We all have [negativity] so much around in our lives, and to take it as a kick in the ass, to light a fire under your ass instead of letting it get you down. I think that's great. I think a lot of people should learn to do that. A lot more would be accomplished in the world if people learned to do that."
BUTCHER BABIES' sophomore album, "Take It Like A Man", will be released on August 21 via Century Media. The CD was produced by Logan Mader, who has previously worked with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, DEVILDRIVER, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and GOJIRA.
BUTCHER BABIES kick off a massive European touring run on July 7 and then will join GWAR and BATTLECROSS across North America from August 25 to September 18.
