Swedish death/black metallers ZONARIA have completed work on their long-awaited third album for an early 2012 release. The CD was recorded in part at Abyss studio in Sweden with producer Jonas Kjellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY, SONIC SYNDICATE, HYPOCRISY, CENTINEX, CARNAL FORGE).

Comments bassist Max Malmer: "After recording for quite a long time, we are happy to be able to say that the final master of our third album is completed. A lot of meticulous work has been put into the songs, and because of that I believe that this is the best record that the band has ever produced so far! We want to specially thank Jonas Kjellgren, Per Nilsson and Ronnie Björnström for their help with production and mixing of the album."

ZONARIA vocalist Simon Berglund previously stated about the upcoming CD: "I'm stoked about going into the studio with Jonas. He did an amazing job on [ZONARIA's 2007 release] 'Infamy And The Breed' and has done some more incredible work with other bands. And not to mention recording in studio Abyss for the first time. Many of our all-time favorites have recorded in that studio and something magic always happens with the albums recorded there."

SKINNER, the new band led by former IMAGIKA frontman Norman Skinner, has completed recording its debut EP, titled "The Enemy Within". The five-song effort "showcases the evolution of Bay Area thrash with soaring vocals and crushing rhythms," according to a press release. Two tracks — "The Enemy Within" and "Hell In My Hands" — are available for streaming on the band's web site under the "Media" tab.

Swedish metallers RAM will release their third album, "Death", on January 30, 2012 via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Welfare Sounds Studios in the group's hometown and was mastered by Dragan Tanaskovic at Bohus Sound.

"When Canvas Starts To Burn", the new videofrom Austrian symphonic melodic metallers SERENITY, can be seen below. The song comes off the band's third album, "Death & Legacy", which was released on February 25 via Napalm Records. The CD was produced by Oliver Philipps, Jan Vacik, Thomas Buchberger and Georg Neuhauser and it features guest appearances by Ailyn (SIRENIA), Amanda Somerville (AVANTASIA, EPICA, KISKE/SOMERVILLE) and Charlotte Wessels (DELAIN). The album was mixed and mastered by Jan Vacik at Dreamsound Studios in Munich, Germany. The artwork was created by Stefan Heilemann (LEAVES' EYES, ATROCITY, SONS OF SEASONS) and it "represents the historical based concept dealing with famous characters such as Galileo Galilei, Sir Francis Drake, Marco Polo and many more," acording to the band. "An angel of of death holding the book of time, symbolizing their legacy."

Norwegian metallers SUSPERIA have just released a CD celebrating their 10-year anniversary as a recording artist, "We Are The Ones". According to a press release, "This album marks 10 years of releases, and at the same time a nice end of a circle where Mustis (ex-DIMMU BORGIR), who participated on SUSPERIA's first demo in 1999, now returns after 12 years to once again put his magical touch on new, as well as old songs. A very fruitful cooperation which now has led to some fantastic re-recordings of some very popular, classic songs, now in complete symphonic versions. A brand new song has been recorded, with a massive orchestral theme. The contribution to this year's Eurovision Song Contest is, of course, featured. And to round up a celebratory album of this magnitude the right way, here it is finally, the entire infamous demo recording from 1999; 'Illusions Of Evil'! A two-and-a-half-minute teaser for the first official product by former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen's new project HARUS can be seen below.

A brand new HARUS live album/DVD will be made available worldwide by earMUSIC in collaboration with Edel's classic music division Berlin Classics. This joint venture from two music labels apparently far away from each other would probably sound bizarre at first sight (a label operating in alternative and metal music with one representing traditional classical music artists). The reason lies beneath the many sides of Tarja Turunen's music.

It's widely known that Tarja's music background is in classical music. She later became one of the most important female voices of metal, first as part of multi-million seller NIGHTWISH and later with her successful solo career, carrying her own name.

After two gems of heavy rock, Tarja can finally go back to her "first love" for a while. The new live CD and DVD shows a side of Tarja's music personality that so far was only enjoyed by the lucky fans attending her classical music concerts.

The first output of HARUS features traditional and emotional music from Finland presented together with more international repertoire. If Tarja's vocal approach when it comes to rock music is "classical", what stands out in this new musical adventure is the modern approach to classical music.

Tarja Turunen and HARUS created a unique blend of organ, electric guitar, percussion and voice. Tarja has the talent to make it sound warm and soft, appealing for the purists as well as for the fans who follow her with a unique dedication.

Besides Tarja's metal superstar status, HARUS represents the start of a new journey, crossing genres and music cultures. HARUS is a rather peculiar, uncommon Finnish word that describes the four tensors that keep a tent together or the tensor that keeps the mast from falling in a sailing boat. Both of the meanings apply to the musicians involved in Tarja's new project: four members, four equals, four different backgrounds to tie together exquisite classical music developed strongly and in a very stable way, with a taste of experimental, modern feel.

Tarja has declared: "In 2006 we did our first concert together. We had such a joy and fun that we decided to keep on performing as a group. The name
came many years after when we believed it is time to make it official. What

German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR will release their ninth studio album, "Unbreakable", on January 24, 2012 in the U.S. via Frontiers Records. The CD was tracked in part at House Of Music studios in Winterbach, Germany with producer/bassist Mat Sinner and engineer Achim Köhler (EDGUY, MASTERPLAN).

According to a press release, "Unbreakable" "combines the skills of the strongest PRIMAL FEAR lineup ever with a well-balanced 'back-to-the-roots" vibe and an ambitious learning process during their longest tour so far. Classic and ultra-fresh PRIMAL FEAR riff-rockers like 'Strike', 'Give 'Em Hell' or the high-speed track 'And There Was Silence' will hit the bulls-eye, like the rhythm paced metal anthem, first single and new video clip 'Bad Guys Wear Black'. Less experiments, more rock! But there will be a nine-minute epic journey with a lot prog approach named 'Where Angels Die', a classic wonderful ballad 'Born Again' and the melodic power bomb 'Metal Nation'."

Steven Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees bassist) has started work on a 20-disc (!!) box set with Siouxsie and the Banshees material. Included will be the 11 studio albums, singles, live recordings and various TV appearances (on CD and DVD). Note that the live recordings will not be the already released BBC live recordings. It will for instance include a John McGeoch-era show broadcast on German TV from 1981. With some luck you might also get the Siouxsie and the Banshees gig at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show in 1991.

Severin: "If you have this plus 'At the BBC' plus 'Downside Up' you will have everything bar the promo videos which I presume will surface as a stand-alone set eventually."

Severin also insisted on not having Siouxsie and the Banshees remixes on the box set saying: "Consigned to the dustbin of history where they belong :)" We can't blame him.

For those who thought that Siouxsie and the Banshees might reunite, think again: "There is more liklyhood of Peter Hook touring a Banshees tribute band than there is of seeing the real thing tread the boards again. It's over. Done. Dusted."

Siouxsie and the Banshees were a British rock band formed in 1976 by vocalist Siouxsie Sioux and bassist Steven Severin. Initially associated with the English punk rock scene, they soon became inspirational in the creation and development of the gothic rock genre. The band split up in April 1996, after 20 years spent together.

The original lineup of the legendary heavy metal band BLACK SABBATH announced on Friday (November 11) that it was reuniting for its first new album in 33 years and a 2012 world tour.

Singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward revealed during a press conference at legendary Sunset Strip club Whisky a Go Go they were working on new material for the album which will be made available Vertigo/Universal Republic in the U.S. and Vertigo in all other territories. There is no title as yet but it will be produced by Rick Rubin, who has previously worked with METALLICA, SLIPKNOT, SLAYER and SYSTEM OF A DOWN, among many others. The band hopes to begin recording the CD in January for a fall 2012 release. A world tour will follow, including an appearance at the U.K.'s Download festival on June 10, 2012.

"It's now or never. We are getting along great. Everything's really good," Iommi said.

"It's like putting on an old glove. It's fantastic," he added.

The band credited Rubin's persistence for helping get them back in the studio. "He phoned us every five minutes," Iommi joked.

"It was the obvious choice," explained Osbourne of Rubin as producer. "I've known Rick for many years."

"It was time," said Osbourne of the reunion. "The timing was right."

Osbourne went on to reveal that they've written "seven or eight" new songs for the album, which they plan to release at the end of next year.

Butler added that the new songs are "back to the old SABBATH style and sound. The stuff that Tony's been playing is absolutely brilliant."

Rubin, who was also present at the event, said: "We've been working on developing material and we're halfway into the writing process. It's inspiring hearing what's coming out."

The Ozzy-fronted lineup of SABBATH hasn't toured since 2005 and last appeared together when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2006. They attempted to cut a new album — their first since 1978's "Never Say Die!" — with Rick Rubin in 1999, but the sessions fell apart after just a couple of songs and Osbourne turned his attention to his solo career. The Ronnie James Dio lineup reunited under the moniker HEAVEN & HELL in 2006 but split four years later, after Dio passed away

Former SEPULTURA drummer Jean Dolabella has released the following statement regarding his departure from the band:

"First of all, I'd like to thank SEPULTURA — Andreas [Kisser], Derrick [Green] and Paulo [Xisto Pinto Jr.] — for everything and especially all the fans all around the world. Since the begining I felt really welcome by all of you and I'd like to thank from the bottom of my heart all the fans and friends and everybody that have always supported me and my work as a musician. You are, and will always be, very special to me. We had great moments and I'm sure we've created very good stuff together, but it is time to part ways. Life comes in phases and I decided to start a new one.

"I wish all the best for SEPULTURA and I'm very happy and excited with my new path.

"From now on I'll focus on my work as a musician, producer and music teacher in São Paulo. I'll keep working on my project with INDIRETO [the Brazilian experimental project featuring Dolabella and SCARCÉUS guitarist Augusto Nogueira] and others that are already coming along.

"And for those who asked, I affirm you that I'm in great shape, my arm is fine and I'll keep on with my projects in and outside Brazil. Good news coming soon!"

Canadian metal innovators VOIVOD have released the first in a series of webisodes, dubbed "Optical Vortex", in which they update their fans on the band's current and upcoming activities. In the first webisode, which can be seen below, VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin reveals that the group is expecting to enter the studio in January to begin recording its new album for a tentative summer release. He also talks about the upcoming release of VOIVOD's original 1984 demo tape, "To The Death 84", and the band's appearance at the 17th edition of the Roadburn festival on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland where VOIVOD will perform its classic "Dimension Hatröss" album in its entirety as part of the band's special headline show during the Au-delà du Réel event.

JON OLIVA'S PAIN drummer Christopher Kinder has issued the following update:

"Jon [Oliva, JON OLIVA'S PAIN mainman] and I are set for Wednesday to go over the next batch of material for consideration [for the new JON OLIVA'S PAIN album]. It will ultimately be 50 or demos from the start and then begin to narrow it down. Even then, after all that work, we will enter Morrisound Studios with 70% of songs realized and then the final 30% is the magic during the recording process that will bring it all to life. 'Festival' touring dates in Europe for 2012 is also on the table for discussion."

According to the Marin Independent Journal, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has settled a lawsuit brought by his former personal assistant Steven Wiig for what Wiig said was years of unpaid overtime. Wiig, 38, filed a lawsuit in February claiming that he was employed by Ulrich from 2001 to 2009, sometimes working up to 70 hours a week while Ulrich was at home and up to 80 hours a week while METALLICA was on tour. Wiig said he worked as Ulrich's chauffeur, managed his art collection, arranged scheduling and performed numerous other tasks and errands on request. Wiig said he was paid $45,000 a year and had an oral agreement for annual bonuses.

Peter Paterno, an attorney for Ulrich in Los Angeles, said that Wiig was significantly understating his compensation. According to Paterno, Wiig was paid $110,000 a year before bonuses, plus free rent and car.

Wiig (a.k.a. Swiiglor) is the drummer for PAPA WHEELIE, the "stoner punk metal" crew which also includes former METALLICA/VOIVOD bassist Jason Newsted (a.k.a. Jaylor) on guitar/vocals.

According to The Associated Press, EMI Group Ltd. is being sold in two parts for $4.1 billion.

Universal Music Group said Friday that it has agreed to buy the recording division of EMI for 1.2 billion pounds ($1.9 billion).

Sony/ATV has reached a deal to buy the second part, the publishing division in charge of songwriting copyrights, for $2.2 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The deal leaves Citigroup, EMI's owner, with liability for a pension plan worth about $600 million, a second person said.

Both people were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The deal is likely to face intense regulatory scrutiny because Universal Music, a unit of Vivendi SA, is already the world's largest music company with about 27 percent of the recorded music market. Adding EMI's approximately 9 percent will give it a clear edge over Sony Corp.'s Sony Music Entertainment, the second largest.
