The metal juggernaut known as HELLYEAH — featuring Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN), Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett (MUDVAYNE), Tom Maxwell (NOTHINGFACE) and Bob "Zilla" Kakaha (DAMAGEPLAN) — has finished demoing instrumental versions of 11 new songs for the band's forthcoming third album. The group states via Twitter, "Just got done listening to all the songs. You guys [are] in for a surprise! Hellyeah!"

"Ghost Riders In The Sky", the new video from CHROME DIVISION, the Norwegian five-piece featuring DIMMU BORGIR frontman Shagrath (a.k.a. Stian Thoresen) on guitar, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed with director Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company (DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES, SONIC SYNDICATE, KAMELOT), who previously worked with the group on the "Bulldogs Unleashed" and "Serial Killer" videos (the latter off 2006's "Doomsday Rock 'N' Roll" album).

A cover version of the JOHNNY CASH classic, "Ghost Riders In The Sky" comes off CHROME DIVISION's third album, "3rd Round Knockout", which was released in Europe on May 6 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Marius Strand Studio in Oslo.

DEEP PURPLE bassist Roger Glover's new solo album. "If Life Was Easy", is scheduled for release in Europe on July 11 via earMUSIC/Edel. The follow-up to 2002's "Snapshot" was reportedly recorded in 2007 but is only now surfacing. It features Roger's daughter Gillian Glover, with lead vocals by Ronnie Bramblett.

Commented Roger: "This hodgepodge collection of songs reveals or obscures a range of emotions over a turbulent decade; separation, divorce, injustice, uncertainty, new love, escape, fatherhood, grand-fatherhood, emigration, touring and losing my mother are some of the extreme highs and lows during this storm-tossed period. All were written wherever I was living — on a MacPro with ProTools and a few instruments and gadgets — extra musicians were added in the studio as needed.

IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson recently spoke to the BBC about the band's appearance at the U.K. edition of the Sonisphere festival, set to take place July 8-10 at Knebworth. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On sharing the stage with SLIPKNOT:

"Obviously we do what we do for two hours, and a lot of our stuff now is semi-theatrical and proggy. Whereas SLIPKNOT is theatrical but much more rrrraaaaahhhh!!!! The audience get a really good variation of stuff."

“We're the headliners so we are doing our usual set. We've got ourselves some new toys for it, so there's one or two spectacular monsters and things like that, but I think everybody brings their toys out for a festival! I mean, SLIPKNOT have got some fabulous kit. I'm very jealous of their flames and fire! We haven't gone with any pyro at all on this tour. I think the next time we go out we will. We like to alternate it every other year because if you get the reputation that you've got to go and see a band because of the pyro and then you don't do the pyro people think, 'Oh, I won't bother then.'"

On the places in the world IRON MAIDEN has yet to play:

"There's a few places we haven't got round to playing yet, like Thailand and everybody always says, You've got to play China,' but the trouble with that is they censor everything left, right and center and put you in some little club or something daft. It would be terrific to play some of the places in the Middle East that we haven't got around to playing yet because we've got a lot of metal fans over there. It's a big underground metal thing in Iran and Iraq and there's also The Lebanon and even Morocco, where we have a big following."

On the possibility of playing Iraq:

"Well, I'm sure some of the guys in the band would be like, 'I'm not wearing bullet proof vests on-stage!' One of the big organizers of the Egypt protests was actually texting our manager Rod and sent a picture of him in the square with a MAIDEN shirt on! We were looking at doing Egypt on this tour and it was just too dodgy. We sent our tour guy down to meet the promoter and look at his ideas but it was obvious the guy did not have a clue so we thought, 'Let's not do that.' . . [The biggest obstacle is] getting the infrastructure together and knowing that it's reasonably secure and that you won't have issues with crowd security and people getting hurt, because it could turn into a real mess. You've got to have that confidence that organizers are capable of controlling what might happen if you get 30,000 people suddenly turn up and there's a barrier made of tissue paper and it all collapses. Suddenly the troops start wading in with batons and you've got some horrendous mess on your hands. We want to try to make it as safe an environment for people to go nuts in as possible so everyone walks out alive as opposed to the old DOORS song!"

CADAVERIA, the Italian band featuring former OPERA IX vocalist Cadaveria and ex-OPERA IX drummer/NECRODEATH vocalist Marçelo Santos (a.k.a. Flegias), has issued the following update:

"It's time to break the silence and answer all the fans who have asked about CADAVERIA developments and next release during the last months.

"Well, we can say the new album is almost done! We are finishing the mix and refining the last tracks and, during the next week, we will begin working on the mastering.

"The album will contain 11 new songs and is still untitled.

"The entire process took quite a long time, but it has been worth it. The sound is macabre and it exudes a primordial magic, the tracks fed on anguish and darkness; cries, tragic prophecies and obscure visions echo in the lyrics. We are absolutely excited about it, but we know there are already many things to do, before going on stage again.

"We are totally focused on this project and on the following steps: we will set the artwork very soon and we are going to shoot a video before the album release.

"Due to all these reasons, it is now early to talk about an official release date for CADAVERIA fourth full-length. However, we can assume it could be in stores before the end of this year.

"We will come back to you when we get any substantial news to share. In the meanwhile we have produced this short video [see below] that captures some moments of the composition and of the recording phases."

BROKEN TEETH's video for the song "Bullet" can be seen below. The track comes off the band's latest album, "Viva La Rock, Fantastico", which was released in January 2010 via Perris Records. Featuring 13 all-new tracks, the CD was written on the road during BROKEN TEETH's 2008-2009 "Blood on the Road Tour". As expected, the fifth release from the hard-bitten Texas head-knockers is torn from the same hellraiser's hymnal that gave us the likes of MOTÖRHEAD, AC/DC, RHINO BUCKET and other wheels-of-steel rockers.

Swedish black metallers DARK FUNERAL have announced the addition of vocalist Nachtgarm (NEGATOR) to the group's ranks.

Guitarist Lord Ahriman admits that it surely was not an easy task to find a worthy replacement for Emperor Magus Caligula, who has been doing an amazing job for DARK FUNERAL during the past 15 years. The Lord says that he has not only been "the vocalist" for the band, but the also a very good friend of his and he always will be.

Anyway, 10 months of intense search worldwide have finally given result and he is VERY proud to announce and welcome Nachtgarm to the horde.

Commented Lord Ahriman: "I think I can speak for everyone in the band and say that besides completely knocking us down with the strength of his vocals and wide register, what truly blew us away was his presence, energy and the amazing spirit he showed during the final audition. He just came into the rehearsal room, found and took his rightful spot. And then just set the whole place on hellfire! It's really hard to explain 'that' certain feeling one is looking for, but once you get it, you just know that you've found the right man for the job. And that is something we all got 'deluxe.' No doubt about that!

"Mankind has no idea what is coming upon them. And I can't wait to bring this maniac on tour for the world to experience DARK FUNERAL in the most intense and hellish way ever!

"During the 10 month we have been looking for a new vocalist and drummer, we have received over 1000 applications. The interest to join DARK FUNERAL has been way over expectation and quite overwhelming to say the least. And we would like to take this opportunity to thank EVERYONE who applied for the jobs. Added guitarist Chaq Mol: "When Emperor Magus Caligula quit the band, my first thought was, 'How the fuck will we be able to find a worthy replacement now?' In my eyes he was the best vocalist in the black metal scene. Anyhow, after we had listened through a couple of hundreds applicants, there were two guys that really stood out and sounded very promising indeed. The question now was, would they nail it on a live audition too, and would their personalities be of that kind we were looking for?! Well, after 10 month search we finally found the right man for the job! And all my previous doubts and concerns are now a memory forgotten. Nachtgarm, welcome to the horde!"

States Nachtgarm: "To me, DARK FUNERAL is the epitome of black metal. To be a member of this institution now, is not only a big honor for me, but is also complementing my work as a lead singer as well as my action at the front of the stage throughout the years. Consequently, I am very glad that DARK FUNERAL put their unholy faith in me and my abilities. As the successor of Emperor Magus Caligula, I am quite aware of the high expectations being directed to my person. However, I can assure every one of you out there, that with every breath I take I will live up to these expectations. Hands down. This is the arrival of Satan’s Empire. Long-running Czech black metal band ROOT will release its ninth full-length album entitled "Heritage Of Satan" in the fall via Agonia Records. Three special guests will appear on the CD: Erik Danielsson (WATAIN), Rune "Blasphemer" Eriksen (ex-MAYHEM, AVA INFERI, AURA NOIR) and Adam "Nergal" Darski (BEHEMOTH). Both Erik and Nergal contribute vocals to two songs each while one track will contain Blasphemer's "Northern" guitar melodies.

Satanic metal warlords SATAN'S HOST will enter Flatline Studios on July 18 with producer Dave Otero (CEPHALIC CARNAGE, COBALT) to begin recording a "celebration album" to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the band's debut LP, the cult classic "Metal From Hell". The as-yet-untitled compilation will contain a few new songs and revamped versions of classic tunes that span the band's career, with returned original vocalist Leviathan Thisiren (a.k.a. Harry Conklin of JAG PANZER and TITAN FORCE) offering his unique take on the songs. Tracks set to appear on the CD include brand-new songs "For The Love Of Satan" and "Conviction", the title cut to "Metal From Hell", "Witches Return", "Nightside Of Eden", "H.E.L.L.", "Dark Priest (Lord Ahriman)", and the title track to "Satanic Grimoire". A November release via Moribund Records is expected.

Legendary singer and former VELVET UNDERGROUND frontman Lou Reed recently spoke to New York Magazine about his collaboration with METALLICA on songs he'd written for "Lulu", a theatrical production of stories by German author Frank Wedekind, which is currently running in Berlin.

When asked if there was any chance of him staging "Lulu" with the music he did with METALLICA, Reed said, "I don't think METALLICA wants to be a band on Broadway! [Chuckles.] They're metalheads. They're not going to do that. But the version of the 'Lulu' music I did with METALLICA is awe-inspiring. It's maybe the best thing done by anyone, ever. It could create another planetary system. I'm not joking, and I'm not being egotistical."

Regarding what the METALLICA version of the "Lulu" music sounds like, Reed said, "There are two stories 'Lulu''s based on, and I rewrote 'Lulu' from the get-go, taking the original plot — mostly Earth Spirit, not Pandora's Box — and followed it essentially from the point of view of Lulu and the various people who love her, until she gets involved with Jack The Ripper. The basics. So the METALLICA version will have absolutely all of that and more. It'll probably come out by November."

In a statement posted at METALLICA's official web site, the band wrote about its collaboration with Reed, "We are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full-length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed. Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th anniversary of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together."

The statement added, "We have indeed been working at our home studio at [METALLICA headquarters in San Rafael, California] on and off over the last few months. In what would be lightning speed for a METALLICA-related project, we recorded ten songs during this time and while at this moment we're not exactly sure when you'll hear it, we're beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week."

Rolling Stone spoke with both Reed and members of METALLICA about the surprising announcement. Writer David Fricke described the disc as "a raging union of [Reed's] 1973 noir classic, 'Berlin', and METALLICA's '86 crusher, 'Master Of Puppets'." The songs were all written by Reed with extensive arrangement contributions by METALLICA.

Reed called the collaboration "a marriage made in heaven. I knew it from the first day we played together: 'Oh, man, this is perfection, right in front of me.'"

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich said, "I don't think we've ever felt this free. There's nothing that's totally outside of the boundary for us, nothing that feels like 'Oh, what happens if we go there?'"

Frontman James Hetfield added, "Lars and I listened to [Reed's demos] and it was like, 'Wow, this is very different.' It was scary at first, because the music was so open. But then I thought, 'This could go anywhere.'"

Songtitles on the record include "Pumping Blood" and "Mistress Dread".

Eagle Rock Entertainment has set a July 26 release date for "Double Live - Northstage Theatre 1982 / New York Steel Benefit show 2001", a two-disc DVD set which couples TWISTED SISTER live shows from the start of the band's recording career in 1982 and the beginning of its reunion career in 2001. The show from the North Stage Theater in Long Island in 1982 was the same year as the release of TWISTED SISTER's debut album, "Under The Blade". It features many of the songs from that record along with some brilliant cover versions and is a stunning snapshot of the band in its early days. Following the terrible events of September 11, 2001, TWISTED SISTER's classic lineup reunited to headline the New York Steel benefit show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on November 28 that year. The concert was a fundraiser for the families of New York police officers and firefighters who had lost their lives in the attack on the World Trade Center. The reaction to TWISTED SISTER's set was overwhelming and led directly to the ongoing existence of the band today.

LEPROUS, the Norwegian progressive/avant-garde metal band that recently signed a worldwide deal with InsideOut Music, has chosen surrealistic American artist Jeff Jordan to create the artwork for the group's upcoming album, "Bilateral".

Commented vocalist/keyboardist Einar Solberg: "We are proud to announce that we're collaborating with the surrealistic American painter Jeff Jordan and the Spanish designer Ritxi Ostariz for the artwork on our upcoming album. Jeff Jordan is probably best known from his work with THE MARS VOLTA, and his paintings are highly rated all over the world. Vocalist Amanda Somerville, known for her work with AVANTASIA and EPICA, the KISKE / SOMERVILLE album with former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske, and HDK featuring ex-AFTER FOREVER guitarist Sander Gommans, is gearing up for the launch of a full-on metal project under the banner TRILLIUM.

"I've been throwing around the idea of doing this over the last few years," Somerville revealed in an exclusive interview with BW&BK's Carl Begai. "It really kind of tipped the scales doing HDK. There's a saying in German, 'I licked blood,' which is disgusting but appropriate, I guess, since there's a song about vampires on the album (laughs). I've always done my own thing. People know me mainly from collaborations I've done with and for other bands, but I started out as a solo artist and I stayed one throughout. Having done all of this stuff in the metal scene for more than a decade now, it's only natural that it rubbed off on me. I like it, and the songs that I've written in the last several years have been very dark and gotten heavier. Basically, I was just going to make my next solo album more metal, but then I decided I'd prefer to keep the waters a little cleaner in terms of doing a metal project. It's a little weird if I say I'm going to do a metal album and then throw in a jazz ballad (laughs). I don't want to compromise, and I've got so much material now that I might as well do a total metal album and keep my solo stuff completely separate. That way I can do what I want and not have to apologize to anybody."

ORPHANED LAND's December 9 and December 10, 2010 concerts at Reading 3 in Tel Aviv, Israel were professionally filmed and recorded for an upcoming DVD release. The Israeli progressive folk metal masters were joined at both shows by Steven Wilson of PORCUPINE TREE. Also appearing on December 9 was PARADISE LOST guitarist Greg Mackintosh; famous Israeli singer Yehuda Poliker performed with ORPHANED LAND on December 10. Poliker reportedly inspired the band to choose the name ORPHANED LAND from the lyrics of one of his songs.

Canadian extreme metallers KATAKLYSM are nearly done with their highly successful world tour that has taken the band to the four corners of the world. The "Heaven's Venom" mania will continue this summer with the band's appearance at the Wacken Open Air festival this August. The band will headline the Brutal Assault festival in Czech Republic, perform at Metal Mean in Belgium, and play at the 20th anniversary of the Summer Breeze Open Air in Germany to an already sold-out audience of 30,000 metal fans!

In other news, KATAKLYSM recorded the single "The Iron Will" last week in Montreal, Canada with guitarist/producer Jean-Francois Dagenais. It will be mixed this fall by Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, BEHEMOTH, MNEMIC) in Denmark and will be released with a video clip on iTunes one month before the release of the documentary DVD "The Iron Will: 20 Years Determined", which depicts the ups and downs of the band's long, turbulent career... one that made KATAKLYSM one of today's top names in extreme music.

Massacre Records has set a July 15 release date for a new compilation from Texas doom metal veterans SOLITUDE AETURNUS. Entitled "In Times Of Solitude", it features "demos, early days footage and rare tracks," according to a press release.

A song from the collection, "It Came Upon One Night", is now available for streaming on the Massacre Records MySpace page.

According to Terrorizer magazine, Norwegian/Hungarian black metallers MAYHEM have revealed that they recently smuggled in real human remains to use as part of their stage show at Hellfest in Clisson, France.

"They were all human remains — skulls and bones — on the stage of MAYHEM's 'Liberation By Evil' performance at Hellfest," stated frontman Attila Csihar. "It was [done] for spiritual reasons, not for sensation. To stand and sing from the 'Altar Of Death' in front of 8,000 people at Hellfest was extreme and important both artistically and personally — that feeling is just indescribable." He added, "I am not sure if it's the best idea to say officially that we used real human bones on our performance. However, it is the simple truth. We are MAYHEM and I am Attila, I always say the truth, nothing more and nothing less. I would like to thank our people and Hellfest for the help to make this great action happen, and also to our fans for the eternal support!"

A new video clip of pint-sized PANTERA fan Jonah headbanging to the band's classic song "Fucking Hostile" has gone viral, having already been viewed nearly 100,000 times. In addition to thrashing about to the tune, Jonah's routine "is a masterpiece of choreography," according to Carbonated.tv, "as his little hand grooves in time with the distortion-heavy riff about halfway through. . . Sometimes he punches the air with two fists (not an amateur move), sometimes he goes into full spin mode (even if he does get a little bit dizzy there, whoops!)."
