According to DCHeavyMetal.com, '80s punk rock legends DEAD KENNEDYS performed what are apparently two brand new songs — "Area 51" and "You're Such A Fake" — during their October 16, 2010 concert at the Rock And Roll Hotel in Washington, D.C. In addition, the band played a reworked version of the old song "MTV Get Off The Air", now re-titled "MP3 Get Off The Web", with lyrics that were "changed to be about people downloading MP3s and how much they suck for doing it."

Former MANOWAR guitarist Ross "The Boss" Friedman will release the second album under the ROSS THE BOSS banner, "Hailstorm", in Europe on November 1 via AFM Records (three days earlier in Germany).

"David De La Hoz", the brand new videofrom Georgia's THE CHARIOT, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's new album, "Long Live", which is scheduled for release on November 23 via the band's new label, Good Fight Music. The CD was produced by Matt Goldman (UNDEROATH, MYCHILDREN MYBRIDE, FOUR LETTER LIE), who previously worked with THE CHARIOT on "Wars And Rumors Of Wars" (2009), "The Fiancée" (2007), "Unsung" EP (2005), and "Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead And Nothing Is Bleeding" (2004).

Swedish alternative metal act KOREA will release its second album, "The Delirium Suite", on November 12 via ViciSolum Productions.

KOREA was formed in Stockholm in 2003 and was quickly discovered by the American producer Blake Althen who realized the powerful potential that the band possessed. The group recorded a self-titled EP with Blake but eventually decided to part ways with the producer. In 2008 KOREA released its debut album, "For The Present Purpose", which got great reviews from magazines such as Kerrang!, Big Cheese, Rock Hard, Legacy, Orkus, Sonic Seducer and Rock Sound.

Now, two years later, KOREA is back with the sequel, "The Delirium Suite", on which the band raised the bar considerably.

The CD's first single, a hard-hitting version of RADIOHEAD's classic "Street Spirit (Fade Out)", will precede the full-length CD on October 15. It is now available for streaming on KOREA's MySpace page.

"Mastermind", the long-awaited new album from MONSTER MAGNET, is available for streaming in its entirety at AOL Music. Due on October 29 via Austria's Napalm Records, the effort will be released as a regular CD with poster, limited digibook with two bonus tracks with poster and limited-edition box containing the digibook CD, USB stick with MONSTER MAGNET logo and exclusive video material (including a Dave Wyndorf interview from August 2010), wallpapers, ringtones, 17-track Napalm sampler and much more.

Tony Portaro, founding member of the veteran New Jersey power trio WHIPLASH has released his first-ever solo single entitled "Thrashing Halloween" via the TuneCore digital music distribution service. The track was written, performed, arranged, engineered and produced by Portaro at his Concrete Island Recording Studio and is currently available at Amazon.com.

Florida-based death metal veterans MORBID ANGEL entered Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida on June 22 with engineer Erik Rutan (former MORBID ANGEL guitarist and producer for such bands as CANNIBAL CORPSE, MISERY INDEX and GOATWHORE) to begin recording their ninth full-length album. Due in early 2011 via Season Of Mist, the new CD will be the band's first to be recorded without longtime drummer Pedro "Pete" Sandoval, who recently underwent back surgery for a deteriorating disc problem. Filling in for him on a temporary basis is Tim Yeung, who has previously played with DIVINE HERESY, ALL THAT REMAINS, NILE, HATE ETERNAL and VITAL REMAINS).

Commented Yeung: "I must say that it is been a huge honor to be playing for one of my favorite bands that I grew up listening to as well as filling in for one of my biggest metal drumming inspirations.

"Overall, I think [this] may be one of [MORBID ANGEL's] most well-rounded albums ever. There are killer experimental electronic parts as well as some really cool groove parts. Don't worry — there is plenty of blast beats and blazing double bass as well!"

"Shatter", the new video from TRIPTYKON — the group formed by former HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST singer, guitarist, and main songwriter Tom Gabriel Warrior — can be viewed below. Based on a concept devised by Warrior and directed and filmed by Philipp Hirsch of Film-M in Leipzig, Germany in late September 2010, the clip combines the imagery of occult metal with the somber aesthetics of 1920s-era silent movies.

"Shatter" is the title track of TRIPTYKON's all-new five-track EP, which is scheduled for release on October 25 (Europe) and October 26 (North America).

At a playing time of approximately 28 minutes, "Shatter" consists almost entirely of previously unreleased music.

CHILDREN OF BODOM's as-yet-untitled seventh studio album is being produced by Matt Hyde, who has previously worked with SLAYER and MONSTER MAGNET, among others. An early 2011 release through Spinefarm Records in Europe and Metal Blade Records in North America is expected.

In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho said that he was happy with the decision to work with Hyde. "Our management was pushing the idea," Laiho said, "so eventually it was, 'All right, fuck it. Just to shut them up, let's do it.' We liked the way [Hyde] talked about music and the way he was already so fucking committed. He wanted to do the best fucking CHILDREN OF BODOM album ever and was pretty serious and convincing about that. After five minutes of talking to the dude, we knew he was the guy."

Regarding the musical direction of the new CHILDREN OF BODOM material, Laiho told Revolver, "It's maybe a little more melodic than [2008's] 'Blooddrunk' was. It's maybe more guitar riff-oriented, really '80s guitar and stuff like that."

According to Laiho, the recording sessions for the new CHILDREN OF BODOM album produced nine originals and one cover song that he says is "gonna be fucking funny as shit. I don't think it's something anybody would necessarily want to cover — not a metal band, anyway."

Among the new tracks that are set to appear on the next CHILDREN OF BODOM CD are "Pussyfoot Miss Suicide", "Ugly" and "Was It Worth It?", the latter of which the band shot a video for on October 6 somewhere in north Pennsylvania." Directing the clip was Dale "Rage" Resteghini, who has helmed over 550 music videos since 2003, including clips for such metal bands as MUDVAYNE, HATEBREED, ANTHRAX and SHADOWS FALL. Rage has also directed videos for some of the biggest names in the hip hop world, including Lil Wayne, Diddy, Snoop Dog and Ice Cube.

Regarding the subject matter covered in the "Pussyfoot Miss Suicide" lyrics, Laiho told Revolver, "I've been involved with stupid chicks who were trying to get attention by being, 'Oh, I'm so fucking depressed. I'm gonna slit my wrists with a cheese grater...' And it's so fucking boring, like, 'Just let it go. You're really not gonna do it, anyway.' It's kind of harsh, but it's fuckin' black humor." "Ugly", on the other hand, is "really just venting and screaming stupid stuff. Nobody should expect anything deep and poetic and sensitive and intelligent, y'know?"

"Forging The Eclipse", the new album from German extreme metallers NEAERA, is available for streaming in its entirety at Metal-Hammer.de. The CD is scheduled for release on October 26 (one day earlier internationally via Metal Blade Records. Sick Drummer Magazine will produce "It's About Time", the first-ever instructional DVD from Sean Reinert of the reunited progressive rock/metal band CYNIC. The filming is scheduled to start in November and will take place just outside San Fransisco, California.

"It's About Time" will walk you through Sean's warm-up excercises, practice routines, posture, stick selection & grip variables, pedal approach, drum tuning/tones, drum selection and much, much more. The DVD will also include the performance and explanation of several songs Sean has recorded with various projects during his amazing — and still flourishing — career. Add to that some live footage and other relative advice from Sean, and you've got yourself a very unique and valuable tool to help improve your playing!

CYNIC recently completed the inaugural Hall of Fame tour. Historic in every sense, the Hall of Fame tour, titled "Re-Traced / Re-Focused Live", saw the band performing Hall of Fame album "Focus" in its entirety, along with tracks from the group's lauded second album, "Traced in Air", and more. Direct support came from progressive masters INTRONAUT and DYSRHYTHMIA.

Chicago-based progressive metal hybrid BORN OF OSIRIS has entered BOTA Studio in Lake In The Hills, Illinois to begin recording its third album for an early 2011 release via Sumerian Records. The CD is being produced by the band with the help of BOTA's producer/engineer Don "dB" Byczynski. The CD will be mixed by Brandon Paddock.

Commented guitarist Lee McKinney: "The new album [is] WAY heavier than anything the band ever released. There is definitely nothing we've done that's anywhere near this heavy. We have moved on to seven strings and it couldn't have complemented our sound any better. We brought back the 'BOO-bounce' on this one. It's definitely a really fun and upbeat album. We've also been writing this album for a long time. We had 16 to 18 songs going into the studio and we are going to be leaving with 12 songs that we feel are the strongest.

"We all live in a house together and that has really upped the creativity level. We go from on tour to living at home together, so we are all focusing on the band constantly. Also, the addition of our new guitar player Jason Richardson has increased the amount of shred on this album. There are some really incredible guitar solos on this album from the both of us. It takes the band to a whole new level of musicality.

"This album contains an awesome mix of our most heavy, most technical, most atmospheric and most beautiful melodies ever.

"No matter what album you've liked better of ours so far, this one tops both easily."

BORN OF OSIRIS will take a break from the recording process to join ALL THAT REMAINS and labelmates ASKING ALEXANDRIA for a North American run, which kicks off on October 19.

Legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES) played an ultra-rare acoustic show in August in Sydney, Australia that was filmed for Foxtel's "Max Sessions".

According to Australia's long-running rock station Triple M, Slash and singer Myles Kennedy (ALTER BRIDGE) performed a stripped-back seven-song set, featuring a mix of Slash's solo material and GN'R and VELVET REVOLVER favorites.

The intimate gig happened at the Seymour Centre in the inner-city of Sydney and Triple M's Alexis Savaidis was one of the 300 lucky fans to witness the magic.

"It was a flawless performance," stated Alexis. "Myles blew everyone away with an impressive vocal range hitting insanely high notes. And, of course, Slash was unreal! Doing those solos on an acoustic guitar is really only one for the masters and he did it so well."

She also said that Slash answered questions from fans during the set which revealed a lighter side to the guitar legend.

When asked about the status of his new solo album, Belladonna said, "I'd say [it's] about three-quarters done. There's probably three or four songs that need some lead breaks, three or four vocals to be done, maybe two or three drum tracks — stuff like that; little pieces. It's good; it's old-school metal. Like somebody said, 'It sounds like KING DIAMOND.' [laughs] I'm not sure it sounds like that — I don't hear it that way — [but] it's got some good riffs; a lot of good guitar stuff."

On the status of the unreleased ANTHRAX album "Worship Music" which was originally recorded with singer Dan Nelson and was supposed to come out in 2009:

"There's a chance for anything to happen as far as the songs [are concerned] at this point. I mean, you could leave a lot of it [as it is], 'cause it's really well done; there's not a whole lot of uncertainty about it. Of course, I have to come in and finish my part and do the vocals from the start, which I've already done one [song]. It seemed to fall right into place quite easy. I think there's room for any kind of adjusting any tracks. Obviously it [needs to] be remixed and stuff. But you get a second look at it, so anything could happen."

On what's preventing the material from his new solo album from appearing on the next ANTHRAX CD:

"I think there's some good songs there that we could actually definitely do [with ANTHRAX], but I don't think anybody is open to any of that kind of stuff, which I don't offer it. Even if I did something like that [and of my tracks] could be one of the better songs, no one will know that. But I don't advocate that — I don't try and get anyone to do it. I just do my thing, and they've [the other guys in ANTHRAX] got their songs. When you write stuff, it's like, 'This is our stuff.' It's hard for someone to come in with something. I've never done that with these guys. They've never offered me to like... 'Dude, you got any good stuff we could use?' It's never like that."
