NOCTURNAL RITES: In Writing Mode

NOCTURNAL RITES: In Writing Mode

Swedish power metallers NOCTURNAL RITES have issued the following update:

"We are currently writing songs for the new album and rehearsing for the gig at the SABATON cruise in Stockholm on December 2.

"The songwriting is going well. We have lots of new material for our ninth studio album. We have some really dark and aggressive stuff written as well as some more melodic, so this new album will definitely cater to all aspects of the NOCTURNAL RITES legacy!

We also played some live shows with our new guitarist Chris Rörland [TME]. This guy really did a great job, entering the stage for the first time as a new member of the band and he kicked ass from the beginning to the end! Not showing any fear at all, he just went for it, crazy but still being 100% professional. Even after a few shows it feels like he's been in the band for ages. So we are extremely happy."

METALLICA\'s James Hetfield Comments On Six Feet Down Under Release

METALLICA frontman James Hetfield spoke with Australia's Triple M about the Six Feet Down Under release, which unleashes eight live recordings spanning Metallica's 15-year history with Australian fans.

"We wanted to put together just a piece of each time that we've been here and put it out," said Hetfield.

Hetfield went on to say the older tracks were bootlegged from fans in the crowd. "We didn't start recording tours until two tours ago. Now with the digital world you can record anything, anytime, anywhere. But back then we weren't really recording it… and somebody was thank god," he laughs.

Hetfield says a lot of it was captured on cassette and DAT players. "It's pretty interesting. To take some bootleg audio and make it sound somewhat decent… That's kind of fun."

BLACK TIDE: New Album Title Revealed

BLACK TIDE: New Album Title Revealed

Miami, Florida's BLACK TIDE will release its self-titled sophomore album in February. The follow-up to 2008's "Light From Above" (Interscope) was recorded at Spin Studios in New York with producers Garth "GGGarth" Richardson (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, MUDVAYNE) and Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD).

Regarding the band's decision to make the new CD a self-titled affair, singer Gabriel Garcia told the Artisan News Service (see video below), "We had a couple of names we were thinking about, but we just feel like it's a new thing. I don't wanna say that we're a completely new band, 'cause we still have that 'Light From Above' edge, but we just feel like we're starting fresh; we still feel that way. Like we're starting out."

BLACK TIDE last month released a digital single containing the tracks "Bury Me" and "Honest Eyes". When asked if those tracks are representative of the direction of the new material, Garcia said, "Honestly, this record is all over the place. 'Bury Me' and 'Honest Eyes' are just the songs that our record label felt that were kind of the bridge from 'Light From Above' to this record. There's so many different kinds of songs on this record — we have an acoustic song, we have a slower, more ballad-y kind of song, we have the heavy, heavy stuff... it's all over the place. So I would say it's gonna be surprise for everybody. 'Bury Me' and 'Honest Eyes' are just two of the songs; everything else is completely different."

SACRED OATH Releases Second Single From World On Fire

SACRED OATH Releases Second Single From World On Fire

US true metal torch-bearers SACRED OATH have released a second single from their brand new album, World On Fire. The song, 'Sweet Agony', can be heard in the YouTube clip below.

“We really feel strongly that this is the best work we’ve done yet,” says Rob Thorne, vocalist/guitarist and producer for the band. “And yet we’re struggling, more now than ever, to survive in this business. We need more metal fans to know about Sacred Oath, and these YouTube singles seem like an ideal way to get the word out.”

Like the first single 'Meet Your Make', the new single 'Sweet Agony' is part of the Dune concept that the album draws its inspiration from.

“There are many parallels to be drawn between the futuristic world of Dune and the global crises we face here today,” said Thorne in a recent radio interview. “If Dune was ahead of its time, well, sadly it was less than we thought.”

American author Frank Herbert first published Dune in 1968.

Sacred Oath will release World On Fire as an iTunes exclusive this Tuesday, October 26th – just in time for Halloween. The deluxe bundle includes 11 songs and a PDF of the cover art, lyrics and liner notes. All other major digital retailers will have the album available for sale on November 9th (worldwide). A digipack CD version with lyric booklet will also be available in North America. No physical release date has been set for Europe, Japan, or South America as of yet.

World On Fire is Sacred Oath’s fourth studio album. The running time is 58:11. The tracklisting is as follows:

'Sweet Agony'
'Meet Your Maker'
'The King Must Die'
'Sandrider'
'Front Line'
'Face of Evil'
'Drums of War'
'Revolution'
'When the War is Over'
'On Death Row'
'World On Fire'

REFLEXION: New Year\

REFLEXION: New Year\'s Eve Show To Be Recorded

Finnish dark-alternative-metal band REFLEXION will play a special New Year's Eve show which will commence with an acoustic set on the last hour of 2010 and continue with full-blown electric performance in the first minutes of 2011. The group states, "The show will be recorded and filmed, so be sure to attend this live show!"

REFLEXION released its third album, "Edge", in February via Mach XX/Out of Line Records. According to a press release, "Thudding tribal drums and massive, deep guitar riffs infuse the band's dark melodic hit tunes with a refreshing kick that pleasantly distinguishes itself from the over produced kitsch that most of their fellow countrymen are sporting. This time around REFLEXION are playing it rough, spiffing up even their slow songs with SABBATH-esque doom riffs and toying with complex song structures that often border on prog metal, but without ever losing track of the catchy, often gloomy melodies that have made their first two albums nearly impossible to resist. 'Edge' is reveling in dark atmosphere and hit qualities but will probably cause some serious head banging attacks with metal veterans as well, due to a much harder approach."

"Edge" track listing:

01. Morning Sickness
02. Moscow Nights
03. Written on My Skin
04. Unbreakable
05. Generation Kill
06. Couldn't Care Less (THE CARDIGANS cover)
07. On This Dawn
08. No Roots on the Ground
09. Undress the Beauty
10. The Cage
11. Blind for Tomorrow
12. I've Burned Everything I've Got

REFLEXION is:

Juha Kylmänen - Vocals
Ilkka Jolma - Guitar
Juhani Heikka - Guitar
Mikko Uusimaa - Bass
Ilkka Leskelä - Drums

ARCH ENEMY: 12 Songs Written For New Album

ARCH ENEMY: 12 Songs Written For New Album

Maximum Rock Mag recently conducted an interview with vocalist Angela Gossow of Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Maximum Rock Mag: So, what's going on with ARCH ENEMY? What are you guys doing now?

Gossow: Well, we got a couple of shows coming up actually this week, we're playing four shows in Holland, Belgium, Germany and Poland, then we go back home to continue writing the new album. Then we go out again in November, we play four shows in the U.K., a headline tour, we haven't been there for a while. Then we come back and go straight to the studio in the beginning of December and start recording the new album. Working title is "Fuck You All"! No! Just kidding! We've got 12 songs for now but I think we're going to end up with 15 or 16 songs, I don't know… We have two months in the studio, December and January. The album has to drop in May. We start playing festivals then already in support of the new album. We're kicking off with the Metalfest festivals where we headline, then we're just gonna do the European festivals season, full on; there's tons of shows, bigger and smaller festivals. Then we go either on a festival trek in the USA or we will start touring Asia, India and Australia.

Maximum Rock Mag: Let's talk a bit about the direction of the new album? How is it gonna sound? What should the fans expect?

Gossow: ARCH ENEMY's trademark is extreme stuff with a lot of melody. Right now the extreme stuff is definitely over the top, so I think we will try to write 2-3 more melodic tracks; it's very extreme at the moment, a lot of blast beats, you know... I'm so excited about it, we haven't written an album since 2007, we've got a tone of riffs, there's gonna be a lot of riffs in every song I think because we've got so many and we're just really hungry for a new album!

Maximum Rock Mag: I read your biography and some of your answers to the fans and I can see that you are a really committed and determined person and really involved in political issues, with a strong and right attitude against racism, globalization and stuff like that. How do you think you can raise the awareness regarding these issues among youngsters?

Gossow: I think people look for answers, I think that's what's great about the young generation, that's why they're most likely to make changes and start up little revolutions, you know… Because you're more rebellious as a teenager, a lot of people get tired when they get older and I think it's important to stay in the dialog with young kids. I tell as much as I can about me, about what I believe in and a lot of people pick up on that because they look actively for inspiration. Some have questions and I try to answer them and make them realize that we're living in an age where we all know that our world is dying for one thing and we know that wars are not the answer to any political problem, yet environmental destruction is still ongoing and there's still a lot of wars raging. It's absurd. The war in Iraq is not over despite the fact that it's out of the news. It's a very confusing time people live in and it's very frightening as well… It feels a bit like end time, doesn't it? I don't really preach about what I do, I only answer questions, like when people ask me why am I a vegan, I explain it to them, or why am I an atheist, I explain it to them. But I'm quite careful with these things because I definitely don't want to be a preacher, there's enough preachers out there and a lot end up in politics and religion and I mistrust preachers. I rather practise and set an example. I think it's important to let people know what I believe in, because I feel responsible for my actions and I also feel responsible for telling young kids the right things.

Maximum Rock Mag: Being an atheist myself, I want to know why are you an atheist?

Gossow: Because there is no God. I'm surprised to see that people still believe there is one, it's like saying I believe in the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. Science is so advanced by now and people have been trying for thousands of years to prove the existence of God and they've all failed miserably. Looking at the world at this stage it is obvious it is a godless world and the church is only bringing shame upon themselves by making headlines with child abuse and messages like "Do not use condoms" in countries and places like Africa where AIDS is still spreading like crazy. It's kind of an evil institution and I believe religion is only been used for the abuse of power and waging of wars… Yeah, I'm a die-hard atheist. Regarding Satanism, I think it is Christianity turned upside down, essentially praying to the same gods -vand there's no god standing before me! I do not accept any authority, not even a divine or a satanic one.

Maximum Rock Mag: Why are you a vegan?

Gossow: I only eat raw foods, vegan. For instance in the summer I go in the forest I pluck lots of berries, leaves and I eat them straight up. It's a very healthy lifestyle because I do not cook, boil and destroy any kind of vitamins and minerals. I'm very fit, I've never gained too much weight in my life, I was always very slim and very strong, because my diet is extremely healthy. And I do not hurt any other living being, except plants, but plants do not have any feelings, so… And they have no memory whereas animals have. I really oppose any kind of violence or killing and I do not exclude animals from that. I feel that animals are equal to humans, because the human being is just an animal, really; we are animals, you know. When you look at our evolution, we are homo sapiens, an animal and I do not understand why we have set the rule that we can cage, breed, mass-produce and slaughter animals in a massive amount that no other animal would do. We don't go out and just kill one animal and feed off it for a week, but we overconsume it so much that a lot of people get sick from meat. They get lots of heart diseases, heart attacks, stomach cancers, all kinds of cancers that come from the over consumption of meat and we have to pump those animals so full of hormones and medications because they would actually die in those conditions they live in otherwise. The meat that we eat is charged with so many antibiotics and creates all type of hormonal dysfunctions and obviously they get other side effects from it, like impotence, for instance… So, yes, I think the meat business is a very disgusting, unhealthy, environmentally damaging business and I don't want to support that in any way. I have to say that I'm very proud that all of ARCH ENEMY, including Sharlee D'Angelo and Daniel Erlandsson, as well as Christopher [Amott] and Michael [Amott], they are all vegetarians by now, due to health reasons or just simply because they understand the impact of the meat industry. It's one of the most environmentally damaging and cruel industries in this world and if you are against animal testing, like any kind of testing of products, you can't go around by saying but I'm cool with breeding pigs and cows in unbelievable conditions and having them slaughtered and shot. It's the same. So, I'm just against animal cruelty and I think eating meat is part of it.

GOTTHARD - Huge demand causes a record re-entry in Swiss charts!

Zurich - The tragic death of GOTTHARD singer Steve Lee has triggered a record demand for the band's albums. For the first time in the history of the Swiss charts, 13 albums from one band are among the top 100 at the same time - and that means all albums that GOTTHARD have released so far in their career.

Also in the Swiss single charts, the loyalty and sympathy after Steve Lee's death are very apparent. The single "Heaven" even made it to the top of the charts with "One Life One Soul" at number four. In total, nine single are in the charts.

In the album charts it is "Need To Believe" and "One Team - One Spirit" that have the highest positions, numbers two and three respectively.

Just last Sunday, the official funeral service for the GOTTHARD front man was held on top of the Gotthard mountain. In spite of snow and winter temperatures, more than 3000 people came to pay their last respect to Steve Lee. Among them were

TIMES OF GRACE: \

TIMES OF GRACE: \'The Hymn Of A Broken Man\' Artwork, Final Track Listing Revealed

The cover artwork for "The Hymn Of A Broken Man", the debut album from TIMES OF GRACE — the new project that reteams KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist and producer extraordinaire Adam Dutkiewicz with original KILLSWITCH ENGAGE vocalist Jesse Leach — can be found below. The CD is scheduled for release on January 18, 2011 through Roadrunner Records.

Dutkiewicz and Leach worked together on KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's benchmark album, 2002's "Alive Or Just Breathing". That record has become definitive for an entire generation of American metal, with Leach's voice and uplifting lyrics serving as one of the key elements that propelled the album to "modern classic" status. Leach, who went on to sing for the more classic-rock leaning SEEMLESS and who currently sings for the metal band THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL, was always remembered fondly by KILLSWITCH ENGAGE fans, even though he left the band shortly after "Alive Or Just Breathing"'s release.

While fans will no doubt be thrilled at the concept of the duo reuniting, TIMES OF GRACE is not interested in fashioning "Alive Or Just Breathing Part II". It's an entirely new project and represents a different musical path for both Adam D. and Leach! It is an album of cleansing and catharsis for each of them, where internal demons were exorcised and set to music that's as aggressive as it is melodic.

"In all my life. I have yet to write a record that bares my soul as much as this record does," Leach said. "Adam and I had a real spiritual connection while making this and I know that it comes through in the performances and lyrics. This record has our blood, sweat and tears flowing through it. It is painfully honest at times. In short this record is our catharsis."

Adam D. also commented on what TIMES OF GRACE means for him personally, saying, "Making this record was something completely new for me. It documents some of the most difficult-yet-spirited times of my life in the past three-and-a-half years. A lot of the music and lyrics just came out of me while going through several internal struggles, and writing these songs were the only comfort I could find. I reached out to Jesse to help sing and write these songs with me because of my respect for his musical abilities, and because of our great friendship...one that seems to not change no matter what happens in our lives. In the end, I am very proud of this record, and I feel it has helped me through some of my darkest days. I'm hoping that people will enjoy it, and also that it can maybe help others to keep the most positive mindset, even through the most trying of times."

The track listing for the album is as follows; the song titles reflect the sentiment of catharsis that is the common thread running through "The Hymn of a Broken Man".
