German death metal act DAWN OF DISEASE have issued the following update from vocalist Tomasz Wisniewski:

Lemi, Finland-based metallers STAM1NA will issue a collection of their old demo recordings which were originally "self-released" on cassette tape or CD-R format before the band signed a deal with Sakara Records. Entitled "Vanhaa Paskaa" (which literally translates to "old shit"), the compilation is being made available in response to an overwhelming demand from fans who couldn't track down the band's early material.

STAM1NA made several demos between 1997 and 2004. The group's first recordings were sung in English, and from those there is only one track included on the "Vanhaa Paskaa" album — "Meet Your Fate", which was also the first song ever composed by the band.

STAM1NA's first Finnish-language demo was released in 2001 and the "Vanhaa Paskaa" album contains all the demo material the band recorded in Finnish. Also included on the CD is one song which was recorded during studio sessions for the "Raja" album, but that did not end up on the final CD, a track called "Yhdeksän Tien Päät".

Due on October 27 via Sakara Records, "Vanhaa Paskaa (Epäviralliset Kokeilut 1997-2008)" features the following track listing:

"Secret Of The Black Water", a brand new song from the Polish female-fronted traditional heavy metal act CRYSTAL VIPER, is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The track comes off the group's new album, "Legends", which is scheduled for release on October 22 via AFM Records. As the title suggests, all the lyrics on the CD are based on the original Polish legends from the middle ages. The effort was recorded and mixed at the MP Studio in Poland, with engineer Mariusz Pietka and producer Bart Gabriel. The CD cover artwork, which can be viewed below, was painted by the French artist Chris Moyen, who has previously worked with SLAYER, TRIVIUM, BEHERIT and BLASPHEMY.

Los Angeles, California's ABYSMAL DAWN has completed work on the follow-up to 2008's "Programmed to Consume" for an early 2011 release via Relapse Records. The drum parts for the as-yet-untitled album were recorded at Trench Studios in Corona, California with John Haddad (PHOBIA, INTRONAUT, HIRAX). The majority of the sessions were produced and recorded by Mike Bear (ARTISAN, ex-PROTOTYPE), at Artisan Road Studios in Encino, California. The CD was mixed and mastered by Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, GOATWHORE, HATE ETERNAL) at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida.

"We've been working on and off in the studio on this album since May and now we're finally done," commented ABYSMAL DAWN guitarist/vocalist Charles Elliott. "After a series of setbacks, illness, and going through a world of shit in our personal lives, we had no choice but to make this record our revenge and the defining moment for ABYSMAL DAWN. We've had the finished mixes for about a week now and everyone that has heard it has been just blown away. We can already tell that this will be the record that the band will become known for. It's a very varied, extreme, technical, and melodic record and I can promise you that no one will be disappointed."

Norweigian black metallers GORGOROTH have issued the following update:

"GORGOROTH will spend the following week in [drummer] Tomas Asklund's Monolith Studio to put the finishing touches on a project which has been kept secret until now: a complete re-recording of the band's third album, 'Under The Sign Of Hell'.

"It has long been Infernus' [guitar] wish to do such a re-recording, and now the work is close to an end. No release date has been set yet, but an early-to-mid-2011 release is likely.

"In addition, the time in the studio will be spent working on the still-untitled next GORGOROTH full-length album, tentatively scheduled for a late 2011 release. Both albums will be released by Regain Records."

Some of Sweden's finest heavy metal musicians gathered to pay tribute to Ronnie James Dio during this fall's edition of the Sweden Rock Cruise, which sailed on October 7, 2010 from Stockholm, Sweden for Åbo, Finland and returned the following day. There was a long tribute concert with a number of guest musicians performing classic songs from Dio's career with a main band consisting of members of LION'S SHARE.

The Boston Globe reports that DISTURBED's previously announced U.S. tour has been canceled because the band's lead singer, David Draiman, has been diagnosed with a serious throat condition.

According to tour promoter LiveNation, the unspecified "condition" is not permanent, but Draiman must stop performing for at least four weeks in order for it to heal. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

Draiman in 2006 underwent successful surgery to fix a deviated septum which was making breathing difficult and affecting his vocal abilities on stage.

Draiman told a California radio station last month that the band will be doing two legs of its Music As A Weapon tour in 2011. Draiman did not reveal the lineup, but said, "The co-headliner for the tour [rumored to be KORN. — Ed.] is massive. And it's going to be appearing in a union that I think hard rock and heavy metal fans have been wanting to happen for awhile. It has happened before, but only in brief stints. Now it's gonna happen for the duration of a two-leg-long tour. And we're gonna join forces with a leviathan. And we're really looking forward to it."

Previous Music As A Weapon lineups have included CHEVELLE, STONE SOUR, DROWNING POOL, ALTER BRIDGE and others.

DISTURBED's fifth studio album, "Asylum", arrived on August 31 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart, the fourth consecutive release from the group to do so.

Three former members of the German-based gothic rock band DOWNSCARRED have joined forces with vocalist Tina Faulstich in a brand new project called AUTUMN'S LEAVE. According to a press release, the group's "lyrical concept deals with the art of Mr. Hieronymus Bosch."

Two demo songs from AUTUMN'S LEAVE — "21 Ribbons" and "The Gathering On Ground Zero" — are available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.

HALFORD guitarist "Metal" Mike Chlasciak has finished laying down his parts for the forthcoming solo album from PRIMAL FEAR singer Ralf Scheepers. According to a posting on the PRIMAL FEAR web site, Mike contributed to the songs "Locked In The Dungeon" and "Dynasty". Other musicians who are scheduled to appear on the CD include Swedish guitarist Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR, STARBREAKER, LAST TRIBE), powerhouse American vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens (HAIL!, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH; dueting with Scheepers in the track "Remission Of Sin"), Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO MORI, NOTRE DAME) on drums, Sander Gommans (AFTER FOREVER, HDK) on guitar and PRIMAL FEAR's Mat Sinner playing bass on the entire LP and producing.

In an interview with the "Metalzone" radio show (web site) with Kostas Purevil Kyriakakis and Helena Mihailidou, Scheepers revealed that his upcoming solo album will include two cover versions — "Saints Of Rock" from Scheepers' pre-PRIMAL FEAR band TYRAN PACE and "Before The Dawn' from JUDAS PRIEST. "'Saints Of Rock' is gonna be, of course, a little bit more modern than it was [when the original version was recorded] in 1986," he explained. "I mean, right now we have much more possibilities to make songs sound a little bit more modern, starting with the drum sound and the bass sounds — having a much more distorted sound." He added, "I think 'Before The Dawn' pretty much is a [straight] cover — [there's] just a little more orchestral things going on, I have more strings in the song compared to the JUDAS PRIEST [original]. Back then there wasn't much strings going on. I think they even have a piano [in the original version], which I don't have. I have strings and I have this atmosphere stuff going on. Vocal-wise, I just added a harmony at the last bridge before last chorus, I added a harmony which is not on the original, but that's the basic difference."

In a June 2010 interview with Metal Assault, Scheepers stated about the musical direction of his forthcoming solo CD, "It's more diverse [than PRIMAL FEAR], you can say."

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, MASTODON, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and THE HAUNTED are among the bands who are featured on the soundtrack to Splatterhouse, a beat-'em-up video game currently in development by Namco Bandai Games. It is a remake of the original Splatterhouse which was released in 1988. Like the rest of the series, the game combines beat-'em-up mechanics with survival horror.

Splatterhouse is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 23.

"Path Of A Traitor", a brand new song from the Sacramento, California-based quintet CONDUCTING FROM THE GRAVE, is available for streaming at Bloody-Disgusting.com. The track comes off the band's new album, "Revenants", which is scheduled for an October 25 release via Sumerian Records.

Commented vocalist Jeffery Morgan : "The overlying theme of 'Path of A Traitor' deals with betrayals of friendship or trust through manipulating and taking advantage of those who do not stop them from doing so, and in the end, the justice the betrayer deserves. The song starts out with a visualization of all of the misdeeds that have led to persecution and ends with the traitor being brought to justice, hence the line 'you fucking traitor, there shall be justice when you burn alive.' Overall, the lyrics are fairly generalized with some of Mikey's personal experience tied in.

"We've all been betrayed at some point and have desired vengeance and retribution. That is what this song is about."

CONDUCTING FROM THE GRAVE is currently taking part in the "Time To Bleed Tour" with SUICIDE SILENCE, MYCHILDREN MYBRIDE, TONY DANZA TAP DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA and MOLOTOV SOLUTION. Morgan states, "So far the tour has been amazing. All of the people on the package are awesome and we're all having a lot of fun. CREATION'S END, the new power/progressive metal band featuring vocalist Mike DiMeo (RIOT, MASTERPLAN), guitarists Rudy Albert (ZANDELLE) and Marco Sfogli (JAMES LABRIE), drummer Dario Rodriguez, and bassist Joey Bones, will release its debut album, "A New Beginning", on November 9 via Sensory Records. TWISTED SISTER established itself as a band to be heard AND seen. Canadian rock trio DANKO JONES has released the second in the soon-to-be music video trilogy from the album "Below the Belt" (Bad Taste Records/Caroline). The new highly-stylized, film-like music video noir for the track "Had Enough" stars Ralph Macchio ("The Karate Kid"), comedian Don Jamieson ("That Metal Show") and is the prequel to "Full of Regret". The video also features Frank Drank, best known for his recurring role as a Viking in the current Capital One ad campaign, reprising his role as Lemmy's henchman.

Finnish melodic death metal band ETERNAL TEARS OF SORROW has issued the following update:

"It's been a long time since we've been writing a blog entry [on our MySpace page], so I suppose it's time to summarize what we've been doing during the past 12 months.

"We started our Finnish/European tour a year ago with several gigs here in Finland. You know, between 2001 and 2008, we only played four gigs (!) of which only one took place outside Oulu, our hometown (!!). There were a lot of reasons for not playing live shows during that time, and the most important reason was that between late 2001 and late 2004, we were in an inactive state — in short, this band didn't even exist at that time.

"But during the last 12 months, we've been doing more gigs than ever (excluding the year 2000 that was an exception in many ways). So, thanks to all who came to see us in Finland, Romania and Russia! We still have one more gig this year — Hamburg in a couple of weeks. There may be a gig or two next year, but we want to work on our next album in 2011.

"Currently, we're writing new songs. We already got a lot of 'em but, you know, there's always room for new great songs. We have several ideas on how the next album should sound like... I can't tell you guys much about the ideas but let's just say we (once again) want to be versatile and try to to something new. We also want to make the album heavier, more extreme, more beautiful, more athmospheric than ever before.. Well, not in one song but as a whole.

"The schedule is a bit tentative at the moment. You see, if there's something we learned from the 'crazy years' between 1997 and 2001, it's this: we don't want to wear ourselves out anymore. We did that ten years ago and that's what caused us break up. We want to keep our schedules a bit loose. Ten years ago, we would have gone to the studio right after the last gig of the tour. Now, we need a bit more time.

"So, we're trying to get the next album out in early 2012. We're going to have our first studio session sometimes in April and May 2011 and the second session sometimes during the autumn or early winter."

Former DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy, who is currently on the road as the touring drummer for AVENGED SEVENFOLD, was interviewed by Sabian's Chris Stankee at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California on September 17, 2010 during the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar tour. The four-minute clip, which includes performance footage, can be viewed below.

On how he became involved with AVENGED SEVENFOLD:

Portnoy: "The relationship with AVENGED SEVENFOLD started as just a tribute for [late AVENGED SEVENFOLD drummer Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan] and filling in for Jimmy. And then, as a result of the musical and personal chemistry we had making the record, it's kind of blossomed into now being on the road with them. And originally that was only gonna be a couple of months [so I could go] back to DREAM THEATER and now with the way that the DREAM THEATER story has unfolded, I will now remain out with AVENGED SEVENFOLD into 2011 and stay on the road with them for the full album cycle."

On how he fits into AVENGED SEVENFOLD's current live show:

Portnoy: "Although I'm not a bandmember, I am definitely part of the onstage presentation and chemistry. They don't want me to just sit in the background playing drums; I mean, they want me to be myself. The first couple of shows I played with them, I was trying to lay back and be conservative and be respectful — 'This is The Rev's drum throne; this is his spot.' But those guys were, like, 'No! Be yourself. Do your thing.' After a couple of shows, I immediately came out of my shell and now I'm totally at home with these guys and we have a great, great chemistry on stage together — musically and personally."
