MEGADETH\'s MUSTAINE Says \'Endgame\' Is \'Probably Better\' Than METALLICA\'s \'Death Magnetic\'

Jarret Keene of the Tucson Weekly recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On the renewed power of MEGADETH, which now includes guitarist Chris Broderick (ex-JAG PANZER, NEVERMORE):

"The guy's an unappreciated genius and has taken us to a whole different place. I feel like we're just starting to scratch the surface as far as what this band can accomplish musically, and where we can go."

On the fact that reviews of MEGADETH's new album, "Endgame", have been tremendously favorable, especially compared to the latest reviews of Mustaine's ex-band METALLICA's 2008 release, "Death Magnetic":

"Our record is probably better than theirs. But I'm already looking ahead to what else we can accomplish. I'm not thinking about who we're beating."

On the current "Rust in Peace 20th Anniversary Tour" during which MEGADETH is performing the 1990 album in its entirety:

"It's a moment for us to revisit and appreciate ['Rust']. It's a great work of art; there's no denying it."

MEGADETH Mainman Reveals New Songtitle

MEGADETH Mainman Reveals New Songtitle

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine was interviewed by Jose Mangin, program director for Sirius XM, on March 18, 2010 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. During chat, Mustaine spoke about a recently recorded MEGADETH song which will be used in an as-yet-undisclosed project later this year. "That was a top-secret track that we haven't been able to announce where it's getting directed to," he said. "It's a song called 'Sudden Death', and appropriately so. And it's a pretty long song — it's not our usual three-to-four-minute length; it's more along the lines of... I think it's about five minutes long.

He continued, "We were approached to do a track for a specific purpose and we delivered it, and they said, 'Can you do more solos?' And I thought, 'Pfft, are you kidding?' That's like asking a guy, 'Do you wanna have some more sex?' So I went back in there and I went, 'Solo, solo, solo.' And I called Chris [Broderick, MEGADETH guitarist] back, and I said, 'C'mon back down here. Let's have some more fun.' And all you could hear was engines revving and brakes screeching out in front of the studio when he got there. You know, that's what we live for — is playing now."

ETERNAL LEGACY Completes Drum Tracks For New Album

ETERNAL LEGACY Completes Drum Tracks For New Album

Cleveland, Ohio-based metallers ETERNAL LEGACY have finished laying down the drum tracks for nine new songs for their forthcoming third studio album entitled "Seeking No Peace". Due out this summer on Auburn Records, the CD is being recorded at the band's own Mercinary Studios in Cleveland with ETERNAL LEGACY guitarist/vocalist Jason Vanek handling production duties.

"The drum tracks sound awesome," says guitarist Shaun Vanek. "Steve [Dukuslow] did a great job. They came out very heavy, just the way we wanted them.

"Jason and I made some improvements to the drum room and invested into buying more recording gear for the studio.

"We're very happy with the way things are progressing so far.

"This recording is going so much quicker than the last one.

"We are trying a new approach and finally getting the studio to the level we want it to be at.

"Our goal is to have this album ready in time for our trip to Wacken this summer".

ETERNAL LEGACY will perform at this year's Wacken Open Air festival, which is scheduled to take place August 5-7, 2010 in Wacken, Germany.

The band released its second album, "Lifeless Alive", on Auburn in November of 2009. It was made available internationally this past February.

VANDEN PLAS To Release New Album In June

VANDEN PLAS To Release New Album In June

German progressive metallers VANDEN PLAS will release their new album, "The Seraphic Clockwork", on June 4 via Frontiers Records. The eight-song concept CD was produced by the bandmembers themselves at Bazement Studio with engineer Markus Teske.

The "The Seraphic Clockwork" storyline was written by Andy Kuntz and tells about a journey in time. The protagonist who lives in 16th century Rome comes under the spell of an Old Testament prophecy. He travels back to Jerusalem in the year 33 anno Domini where he must face his God-given destiny.

Commented guitarist Stephan Lill: "I think that my preference for heavier bands shines through more than ever before. Heavy riffs, elaborate keyboard and orchestra arrangements plus catchy hook lines come together in a perfect symbiosis which marks VANDEN PLAS' characteristic style. I feel that we were much more adventurous on 'The Seraphic Clockwork' than ever before."

VANDEN PLAS' last album, "Christ 0", was released in 2006 via InsideOut Music.

GUNS N\' ROSES - Music Manager Sues Axl Rose For Nearly $2 Million

According to ABC News, GUNS N' ROSES mainman Axl Rose is being sued by a famed music manager who claims the singer owes him nearly $2 million in unpaid commissions.

Front Line Management, which was founded by Irving Azoff, sued Rose in Los Angeles on Thursday for nearly $1.9 million in unpaid fees. The company claims it had an oral agreement with Rose to receive 15 percent of the Guns N' Roses' frontman's commissions.

The lawsuit states the commissions are due on more than $12 million in earnings Rose made for performances abroad.

Attempts to reach Rose's current management were unsuccessful.

Azoff has represented famous musicians such as THE EAGLES and JOE WALSH and is currently the executive chairman of Live Nation Entertainment Inc., which recently merged with Ticketmaster Entertainment.

The group, featuring a diverse group of musicians — Patty Griffin, vocals; Darrell Scott, multi instrumentalist/vocals; Byron House, bass/vocals; Marco Giovino, drums and percussion/vocals; including co-producer Buddy Miller, guitar/vocals — will embark on a 12-city North American tour in July, to be followed by further dates in the fall. percussion/vocals; including co-producer Buddy Miller, guitar/vocals —

The album is set for release late summer/early fall on Rounder.

Kicking off in Memphis on July 13 (see full tour schedule below) the tour will feature Plant and the BAND OF JOY — the same musicians who also appear and play on the album.

Says Plant: "It's been a blast working on these new songs…and I'm enjoying such creativity and vitality. It's been a remarkable change of direction for all of us and as a group we all seem to have developed a new groove."

In recent weeks Plant has been in the studio working on the planned release, which will be his first since "Raising Sand", the multi-platinum, six-time-Grammy-winning collaboration with fellow Rounder artist Alison Krauss. Krauss has most recently been recording with her longtime band UNION STATION, and will be touring with them this summer. The pair do not expect to announce a new album or tour in the coming year, though when asked about the collaboration, Plant says, "Oh yes, Alison and I get together quite often…and sometimes we dance."

NECRONOMICON Signs With NAPALM RECORDS

NECRONOMICON Signs With NAPALM RECORDS

Quebec's black/death metal trio NECRONOMICON has inked a deal with Austria's Napalm Records. The band's new album, "The Return Of The Witch", is scheduled for a release in early June.

Commented vocalist/guitarist Rob "The Witch": "The band is very happy to finally join forces with the people at Napalm Records. I feel a good vibe in working with the label and am anxious to bring our music to the metal fans around the world.

"Working on this band for so many years makes me appreciate even more when people believe in our talent, and it's encouraging to know that we'll have a solid team behind us. We look forward to new ventures and meeting die hard and new fans alike on the road."

"The Time is Now", the new video from NECRONOMICON, can be viewed below. The clip was shot in 2008 with Benoit Nantel (GHOULUNATICS, URBAN ALIEN, LES ECORCHES) who "did his best to capture the band's atmosphere and power." NECRONOMICON is said to be "really satisfied" with the end result and plans to work with Nantel again in the near future.

"The Time is Now" comes off "The Return Of The Witch", which was mastered with reputed engineer Maor Appelbaum (HALFORD, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, THERION, etc).

"The Return Of The Witch" features guest appearances by Arianne Fleury (ex-AUGURY) and Roxanne Constantin (NEGATIVA, QUO VADIS), among others.

The band previously stated that the follow-up to 2003's "The Sacred Medicines" would "probably be the fastest and most brutal" CD the group has released thus far.

Other songtitles set to appear on the album include "Into The Fire", "Alpha Omega", "The Awakening", and "The Return Of The Witch".

THE SORROW To Enter Studio In May

THE SORROW To Enter Studio In May

Austrian metallers THE SORROW will enter Principal Studios (DIE TOTEN HOSEN, IN EXTREMO) in Senden, Germany in early May with producer Toni Meloni to begin recording their third album set for a late fall release via Drakkar Records.

Commented lead guitarist Andi Mäser: "When we recorded [2009's] 'Origin Of The Storm', a lot of things were going on besides the actual work on the album. It came into being under quite some pressure — and I do believe that to some extend the songs reflect that. Now with this one, we are very happy that we took the time to completely focus on the songwriting process and not have anything interfere with that. I know this sounds trite — but we're about to make our best record."

On working with producer Toni Meloni again, singer/guitarist Mätze Schlegel summarizes, "There could not be a better producer for this band. Toni was with us since the very beginning, he's great at anticipating what musical direction we are heading for and he always pushes us to fully realize that on the album."

Before switching into writing mode for the new CD, THE SORROW played an exclusive show at the Event Center in Hohenems, Austria at the end of last year for its home fan base. The complete performance was filmed for online release and the first taste of the footage — "Far Beyond the Days of Grace" — can now be viewed below. Additional clips will be made available soon.

KORN Frontman Confirms ROADRUNNER Deal

KORN Frontman Confirms ROADRUNNER Deal

KORN frontman Jonathan Davis was interviewed on today's edition of "The Morning After" show, which airs on the Boise, Idaho radio station KQXR 100.3 The X Rocks. During the nine-minute chat, which can be heard using the audio player below, Davis confirmed that KORN has signed a deal with Roadrunner Records and explained the band's decision to work with another record label after contemplating going the independent route for its next album.

The news of KORN's new deal with Roadrunner was first revealed by guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer during an online chat with fans on Tuesday night (March 23).

KORN's ninth studio album, tentatively titled "Korn III - Remember Who You Are", is due this summer. The CD marks the return of producer Ross Robinson, who worked with KORN on the band's first two releases, "Korn" and "Life is Peachy". Davis has said that the new material matches the pure raw emotion of KORN's early releases while the current touring band has never been tighter.

"We experimented with a lot of cool stuff on our last two records [2005's 'See You On The Other Side' and 2007's untitled effort], but we didn't want to do another record like that," Davis explained to Revolver magazine. "So we said, 'Let's strip it back again. Let's do this as a four-piece and make it real raw like the old stuff."

KORN's forthcoming effort was tracked last October at the band's studio. "We recorded everything on tape, just like we did in the old days," said Davis. "And we didn't stack four or five vocal parts like I usually do. I'm singing one part for every song, which was scary. It's just me and the microphone, and you can really hear the emotion."

LEAVES\

LEAVES\' EYES Parts Ways With Drummer, Announces Replacement

LEAVES' EYES — the German/Norwegian band formed by ex-THEATRE OF TRAGEDY singer Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull and members of ATROCITY — kicked off its European tour with KAMELOT and ADAGIO yesterday (Thursday, March 25) in Charleroi, Belgium. This show marked the live debut of the new LEAVES' EYES drummer Roland Navratil, who previously played with EDENBRIDGE, SIRENIA and DIGNITY. Roland was enlisted by LEAVES' EYES and ATROCITY after the two bands made the decision to part ways with Chris "Seven" Antonopoulos (formerly of OPIATE FOR THE MASSES).

Commented Roland: "First of all, I like the diversity of both bands, ATROCITY and LEAVES' EYES.

"I listen to a lot of different music and was blown away by the 'Werk 80' CD of ATROCITY. So-called 'female-fronted' metal bands were always a favorite kind of music of myself, too. That's why I know a lot about Liv and her music and the band LEAVES' EYES.

"I love to play songs like 'Elegy', 'Emerald Island' or the new smasher 'At Heaven's End'!

"The first time I met Alex was years ago when ATROCITY played in Vienna. I met them and Liv again back in 2005 when I was playing in Germany. As I was on the 'Beauty and the Beast Tour' as a session drummer for SIRENIA, it was very cool to tour with both bands, ATROCITY and LEAVES' EYES.

"I was excited as they asked me, if I would like to play with them because we had a lot of fun on tour last fall.

"The rehearsals went great and now I am looking forward to share the stages together!"

TRISTANIA Is Back With NAPALM RECORDS

TRISTANIA Is Back With NAPALM RECORDS

Norwegian gothic metallers TRISTANIA have signed a new deal with Austria's Napalm Records. The band is currently putting the finishing touches on a new album for a summer release. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Vulture", "Patriot Games", "Year of the Rat", "The Emerald Piper" and "Sirens".

Commented the group in a statement: "We're happy to say that TRISTANIA has reunited forces with Napalm Records. TRISTANIA is back where it all started 13 years ago, and we are looking forward to work together with Napalm again.

"Our new album is completely recorded, and at the moment only mixing and mastering remains. We are totally enthusiastic about it, and feel that this album will appeal to those of you who have followed us through the years. True to tradition, the new album will also bring along several surprises and elements that are new in our musical universe. Five different singers will appear on the album, and we have already announced that Pete Johansen contributes with his brilliant violin playing — for the first time since 'World of Glass' in 2001.

"We are really looking forward to share this album with you guys."

TRISTANIA last year announced the addition of guitarist Gyri Losnegård to the group's ranks.

The band played a couple of shows last summer with guest vocalist Kjetil Nordhus (ex-GREEN CARNATION, TRAIL OF TEARS) filling in for Østen Bergøy, including last year's Wacken Open Air festival, which was held July 30 - August 1, 2009 in Wacken, Germany

TRISTANIA in 2007 announced the addition of Italian singer Mariangela "Mary" Demurtas to the group's ranks.

The band's last album, "Illumination", was released in January 2007 via SPV. The CD was recorded at Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with producer Waldemar Sorychta (LACUNA COIL, TIAMAT, GRIP INC.).

ACCEPT: New Song Sample Available

ACCEPT: New Song Sample Available

"The Abyss", a brand new song from reformed heavy metal legends ACCEPT, was premiered on Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show last week on New York's Q104.3 FM and then again on KNAC.COM's "The Vault" this past Sunday, March 21 with host DJ Will.

A reduced-quality, incomplete version of the track is now available for streaming in the YouTube clip below (as recorded off the KNAC.COM online stream).

Following their eagerly awaited return to the live stage at the almost-sold-out Gramercy Theatre in New York City, ACCEPT will be heading to Europe to perform special shows in carefully handpicked venues in various European capitals.

ACCEPT has chosen to play these publicity concerts in small, intimate settings to get close to its longtime fans.

After a decade-long absence, ACCEPT wants to make this a special "thank you" to its European fans, who will be able to attend specially arranged meet-and-greet sessions at each of these shows. In addition, the band will be available for autograph sessions, photo opportunities and interviews during this short trek.

Confirmed dates so far are as follows:

May 08 - New York, NY - Gramercy Theater
May 11 - Vilnius, Lithuania - Forum Palace
May 14 - Moscow, Russia - B1 Maximum
May 15 - St. Petersburg, Russia - Lensoveta Theater
May 18 - Helsinki, Finland - Virgin Oil Co.
May 20 - Stockholm, Sweden - Debaser Slussen
May 22 - Gelsenkirchen, Germany - Rock Hard Festival
May 23 - Uden, Netherlands - De Pul
May 24 - Paris, France - Le Bataclan
May 26 - London, UK - Islington O2 Academy

Rumors surrounding these shows have started to pop up all over the Internet due to the exceptionally high anticipation around the world to hear and see the new ACCEPT lineup — featuring the band's latest addition, vocalist Mark Tornillo (ex-TT QUICK) — perform.

In an effort to keep the arrangements a surprise for the fans, ACCEPT has had a difficult time lining up these concerts. Only one or two shows per country will be finalized and not all nations will be included as ACCEPT has a very limited amount of time available before it focuses on promoting its upcoming comeback album.

Following the CD's release and the intimate European "fan-focused" shows, preparations for a full-fledged world tour will start this summer.

"We can't wait to go out and play again," said bassist Peter Baltes. "Just because [former ACCEPT singer] Udo Dirkschneider isn't available to take part in the reunion doesn't mean we'll have to sit idle any longer. We feel Mark is the perfect fit. Mark is an experienced veteran singer who is aware of the ACCEPT legacy and his voice fits the sound of ACCEPT perfectly.

"Wolf [Hoffmann, guitar] and I have always been the songwriting team — most of the classic ACCEPT tunes were written that way; together with Deaffy, a.k.a. Gaby Hoffmann, as a lyricist."

ACCEPT recently completed recording its new album, tentatively titled "Blood Of Nations", at Backstage Studio in Derbyshire, England with acclaimed British producer and SABBAT guitarist Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE). The CD — which will mark the recording debut of Tornillo — will include around 14 tracks and be released before the summer via an as-yet-undetermined record label. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Shades Of Death", "Blood Of Nations", "Pandemic" and "Teutonic Terror".
Regarding Tornillo's addition to ACCEPT, Hoffmann previously said, "It all happened in minutes. Peter and I were working on some tunes in a studio in New Jersey. Somebody suggested we give this guy Mark a call to see if he would join us on vocals. So when he arrived we started jamming on some old ACCEPT tunes — just for fun. As soon as Mark started singing we looked at each other and realized the impossible just happened: we found a new voice for ACCEPT! The timing could not have been better! Now or never... We are re-energized and excited..."

TT QUICK was a popular club band during the 1980s in the New York and New Jersey area and was known for the guitar work of David Dipietro and the powerful vocals of Mark Tornillo. Dipietro's skills were especially singled out as he had given lessons to both Zakk Wylde of the OZZY OSBOURNE band and SKID ROW's Dave Sabo.

TT QUICK disbanded and later reunited sporadically and released a few more albums, including a live CD from one of their reunion gigs ("Thrown Together Live") and a studio effort, "Ink", which came out in 2000.

ACCEPT 2010 is:

"Omen" was recorded at Edge Of The Earth studios in Hollywood, California with co-producer Logan Mader (MACHINE HEAD, DIVINE HERESY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, GOJIRA, DEVILDRIVER) and it features guest appearances by THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN frontman Greg Puciato and PRONG mainman Tommy Victor.

Of the collaborations, guitarist/vocalist Max Cavalera says, "The first one is a song with Tommy Victor from PRONG sharing vocals on a song called 'Lethal Injection'. The other is 'Rise Of The Fallen', with shared vocals from Greg Puciato, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's singer. I also recorded two B-sides with both of my sons playing drums. Igor Cavalera plays on EXCEL's 'Your Life, My Life', and Zyon Cavalera plays on SEPULTURA's 'Refuse/Resist' cover."

In a recent interview with the Metal Assault web site, SOULFLY guitarist Marc Rizzo stated about "Omen", "It's right to the point. There's a real hardcore, punk vibe to the record. Short tunes. This record is kind of different for us and I think the fans are going to like it a lot."

SOULFLY filmed a video for the song "Rise Of The Fallen" during the band's March 17, 2010 live performance at the Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, New York. Directing the clip was Dale "Rage" Resteghini, who has helmed over 550 music videos since 2003, including clips for such metal bands as MUDVAYNE, HATEBREED, ANTHRAX, and SHADOWS FALL. Rage has also directed videos for some of the biggest names in the hip hop world, including Lil Wayne, Diddy, Snoop Dog, and Ice Cube.
