SHADOWS WITH KNIVES, the new project featuring members of such influential metal (and punk) bands as MASSACRE, DEATH, SIX FEET UNDER, PAINEATER and DOWN BY LAW, is currently seeking a label to release its recently recorded EP. The group's sound is described in a press release as "a meld of classic metal such as ANGEL WITCH, IRON MAIDEN and TROUBLE mixed with classic death metal."

This EP — which still needs to be properly mixed — marks the the return of former DEATH drummer and MASSACRE frontman Kam Lee, who is often credited as being the originator of the growling, death metal vocal style. Joining Lee in the band are co-vocalist Mark Odechuck of PAINEATER, guitarist Sam Williams from DOWN BY LAW and PSEUDO HEROES, bassist Terry Butler of DEATH, MASSACRE and SIX FEET UNDER and drummer TJ Weeks of RESIDENT WEIRDOES.

DARK FUNERAL's latest album, "Attera Totus Sanctus", was recorded and mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, IN FLAMES, BEHEMOTH) and Örjan Örnkloo (MISERY LOVES CO.) at Dug-Out studios in Uppsala, Sweden. Mastering duties were handled by Tomas Eberger at the Cutting Room in Stockholm, Sweden. The album features a guest appearance by former MESHUGGAH bassist Gustaf Hielm.

DARK FUNERAL currently features vocalist/bassist Emperor Magnus Caligula, guitarist Lord Ahriman, guitarist Chaq Mol, and drummer Matte Modin.

AMASEFFER, the new "holy project" from Andy Kuntz, enigmatic lead singer of German progressive metal band VANDEN PLAS, has finished writing the first of the trilogy of albums recounting the story of Exodus. Several members of the band are now in pre-production in Israel before they enter Bazement Studio in Germany on December 1 to begin recording the effort. Kuntz is presently working on his vocal lines and lyrics in his hometown of Kaiserslautern, Germany. Mattias Noren (KAMELOT, EVERGREY, BEYOND TWILIGHT) has created the CD cover.

According to drummer and main songwriter Erez Yohanan, the upcoming CD will contain ten tracks with a running time of 74 minutes and will feature guest appearances by VANDEN PLAS keyboardist Gunter Werno (D.C. COOPER, KAMELOT, SECTION A) and ORPHANED LAND singer Kobi Farhi (who will narrate the albums).

KAMELOT's first-ever DVD, entitled "One Cold Winter's Night", will be released via Steamhammer/SPV on October 30.

"One Cold Winter's Night" was recorded on February 11, 2006 at the historic Rockefeller Musichall in Oslo, Norway. KAMELOT enlisted renowned film and video director Patric Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, IN FLAMES) to chronicle the night's events. Bringing with him from Gothenberg, Sweden, Patric had a large crew of professionals and equipment, including 18 cameras, that would be used in and around the concert grounds.

The title for the band's first DVD to date (based on an earlier KAMELOT song title) was chosen long before the actual shoot. Ironically this winter turned out to be one of the longest and coldest in the country's history, with enormous amounts of snow and numerous chaos-causing blizzards.

"One Cold Winter's Night" will be available as a double DVD (cover), double CD (cover) or a 2DVD/2CD doublepack with poster. The track listing is as follows:

German thrashers DESTRUCTION will enter the studio later this month to record the "Best of Classix" album, tentatively due in early 2007 via AFM Records.

The band previously stated about the upcoming CD, "As it's really difficult to get the old records those days and to avoid a 'best of album' with only old recordings in rather poor quality, we've have chosen the solution to re-record many of the '80s classix, including one or two tunes of the 'Crack Brained' album (where Schmier wasn't singing!!!). It's great fun to pick and rehearse the old songs at the moment. With a powerful sound and the brutal energy that the band delivers nowadays, there is no doubt that this will fuckin' shred!"

DESTRUCTION will play several show in Holland this month in support of its latest CD, "Inventor of Evil", which is available in Europe on AFM Records and in North America on Candlelight Records.

French gothic metallers THE OLD DEAD TREE have announced the addition of guitarist Gilles Moinet (LUX INCERTA) to the group's ranks. "Gilles has a deep sense of melody and brings the band new influences that foretell an even richer and more varied music than before," the band's frontman, Manuel Munoz, writes in a statement. "His will to come forward and his involvement in THE OLD DEAD TREE give us the highest hopes regarding our forthcoming third album."

Gilles will make his live debut with THE OLD DEAD TREE on September 23 in Geneva, Switzerland.

THE OLD DEAD TREE's latest album, "The Perpetual Motion", was released last year via Season of Mist. The follow-up to 2003's "The Nameless Disease" was recorded at Stage One studio in Germany with producer Andy Classen.

Italian doom metallers THUNDERSTORM have set "As We Die Alone" as the title of their fourth album, tentatively due late 2006/early 2007 via Dragonheart Records. The follow-up to 2004's "Faithless Soul" was recorded at New Sin Studio in Loria (Italy) and will include a cover version of the JIMI HENDRIX classic "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)". THUNDERSTORM's version of the song is described by the band as "ultra-heavy but respectful of the original feeling."

THUNDERSTORM previously stated about the new CD, "Most of this album sounds different from others our works: It's doom-metal-oriented, of course, but most songs have a different style from previous CDs. This album will be the best THUNDERSTORM work ever, that's for sure!"

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's video for the song "Concrete Jungle" has been posted online at the MySpace page of the New York-based publisher Terminal Press. The artwork for the video was done by Terminal Press comic artist Rolo Ledesma ("Phony-Baloney", "Terminal Press Presents", "Toxic Teddies", "Spraycan Monsters", "DUB-BOTS") and is said to be "one of the coolest metal videos" in a while. "Concrete Jungle" comes off BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's new album, "Shot to Hell", which is scheduled for release on September 12 through Roadrunner Records. HEAVENLY's third album, "Dust to Dust", was released in January 2004 through Sanctuary/Noise Records. The follow-up to 2001's "Sign of the Winner" was mixed by Sascha Paeth and was described by the group as "more heavy metal and more symphonic" than the band's previous efforts.

A brand new TRIVIUM song, entitled "Entrance of the Conflagration", has been posted online at the band's MySpace page.

The song comes off the Florida-based metallers' upcoming third album, "The Crusade", due on October 10 via Roadrunner Records. The follow-up to 2005's "Ascendancy" was recorded at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, FL, just outside of Orlando. Once again produced by TRIVIUM and Jason Suecof, the CD is "a dazzling explosion of tight, intricate and instantly memorable songs that feature awe-inspiring musicianship from all four members of the band," according to a press release.

"The Crusade" will contain 13 songs, including "Detonation", "And Sadness Will Sear", and the nine-minute instrumental epic "The Crusade".

TRIVIUM filmed a video for the song "Entrance of the Conflagration" with director Dale "Rage" Resteghini (MUDVAYNE, HATEBREED, UNEARTH, SHADOWS FALL) on August 10 at Eon Loft in Los Angeles, California. Hungarian hardcore/thrash metallers EKTOMORF will release their new album, entitled "Outcast", on October 27 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Antfarm Studios in Aarhus, Denmark on July 10 with producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, MNEMIC, WITCHERY, RAUNCHY, HIMSA) and features a cover of PRODIGY classic "Fuel My Fire". According to a press release, "EKTOMORF made a great metal song out of it, without any electronics, but with many roaring guitars."

EKTOMORF's last release was a live DVD, entitled "Live and Raw...You Get What You Give". The package includes live footage of the band performing at the Summer Breeze festival in 2005 and all of their video clips, plus a bonus CD containing a remastered version of the band's "Kalyi Jag" album (originally issued in 2000), done by producer Tue Madsen.

According to Rockdetector.com, Swedish melodic hard rockers BALTIMOORE are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their tenth album, to be titled "X", which is due for release in October. The album will be issued via BLP Music, the label set up by BALTIMOORE vocalist/band leader Björn Lodin, which saw the band's latest offering, "Kaleidoscope", released in April 2006.

"X" marks the return to the band of original lead guitarist Thomas Larsson (GLENN HUGHES) who has previously performed on four BALTIMOORE albums since the bands formation in the late 1980s. "Thomas Larsson's return to the band should, with his unique playing, make a lot of guitar-nerds happy!" says Lodin. "He is replacing Stefan Bergström who had other commitments. We wish Stefan the best of luck with his future ventures."

BALTIMOORE will commence a two-month tour on October 27 to promote the new release with the emphasis on bringing the music back the people with a very special event tied in with the tour (more information on this coming soon). On the pending tour, Lodin says: "We're finally getting our arses in to gear and putting a show together for the road. It's been a long wait for us and we are very excited about playing live with the new material."

A live video of the ABORTED song "Meticulous Invagination", taken from the Belgian death metallers' upcoming "The Auricular Chronicles" DVD, has been made available for download at this location (Quicktime required).

U.K. progressive epic thrash metallers BIOMECHANICAL have set "Cannibalised" as the title of their upcoming album, tentatively due April 2007 via Earache Records. The follow-up to 2005's "The Empires of the Worlds" will be recorded at vocalist John K.'s studio beginning in November. The mixing sessions will take place in January.

DREAM EVIL parted ways with drummer Snowy Shaw (KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO MORI, NOTRE DAME) in February and replaced him with Pat Power (a.k.a. Patrik Jerksten).

Frontiers Records has revealed the details surrounding the much-anticipated PRETTY MAIDS comeback album, entitled "Wake Up To The Real World", to be released on November 10, 2006.

PRETTY MAIDS is a legendary hard rock/heavy metal combo from Denmark founded in early 1982 by guitarist Ken Hammer and singer Ronnie Atkins.

After 10 studio albums, two EPs, one "best of" collection and two live albums, the band in 2002 celebrated its 20th anniversary with the release of the album "Planet Panic", followed by a successful European tour. But at the end of the same year they decided to take a long break from recording and touring. Now in 2006 the band is finally ready to release its new effort.

Commented singer Ronnie Atkins: “The new record has all the trademarks a good PRETTY MAIDS album should have, and that's the overall combination of good melodies and strong guitar riffs. Guitarist Kristian "Stan" Havard of the acclaimed late '80s/early '90s U.K. thrash metallers XENTRIX — who recently reunited with their original lineup for a series of gigs in their home country — has posted the following message on the group's official web site:

German hard rock singer DORO will release a special "winter edition" of her latest album, "Warrior Soul", on November 20 through AFM Records. Dubbed "20 Years A Warrior Soul", the set will include the regular album plus a bonus DVD featuring footage from Doro's December 2003 20th anniversary gig in Düsseldorf, Germany and a CD containing new/previously unreleased tracks. A special "fan box" will also be included, according to a posting on the AFM web site.

"Warrior Soul", was released in North America in May via Locomotive Records. The CD was created in Switzerland, Tennessee, New York and Germany; and inspired by her first feature film role earlier this year in Luke Gasser's "Anuk - The Warrior's Way". The sound returns Doro to the ways of her first band, WARLOCK, which she fronted to forever change the face of modern metal music. It stands in perfect contrast to her last opus, 2004's "Classic Diamonds", in which she stretched out to perform decidedly non-metal ballads and mid-tempo rockers with a symphony orchestra. Here — with bassist Nick Douglas, guitarist Joe Taylor, keyboardist Oliver Palotai and drummer Johnny Dee — Doro is back to major league metal form, hard-charging through 12 tracks in a beefy 54:10.

Brazilian melodic metallers ANGRA have posted the following message on their official web site:

"ANGRA is putting the very final touches unto its new album. The CD is going to be released in October and shall be the main event in the band's 15th anniversary celebrations.

"The name of the record has been finally announced. It's called 'Aurora Consurgens', which is also the title of an old book written by Saint Thomas of Aquin. Such book was used by Jung to establish relations between dreams and different mental conditions. Contrary to the band's latest album, 'Temple Of Shadows', the forthcoming effort is not a concept album. However, all lyrics do have a common theme: the various mental issues, including suicidal tendencies, schizophrenia, manic depression, sociopathy, etc. The artwork was once again designed by Portuguese artist Isabel de Amorim.

"The recordings of 'Aurora Consurgens' began in July at the House Of Audio studios in Germany , under the guidance of long time producer Dennis Ward. Aquiles Priester recorded all his drum parts by then. After these sessions, Dennis flew down to Brazil to record all other parts with Kiko Loureiro, Rafael Bittencourt, Felipe Andreoli and Edu Falaschi. The so-called Brazilian sessions took place at the Via Musique Estúdios, in São Paulo. Thiago Bianchi was the assistant producer. Dennis then flew back to Germany and mixed the material, which is currently being mastered by the renowned Finnish producer Mika Jussila.

"Musically, the new album depicts a much heavier ANGRA. It doesn't mean the usual style of the band is lost, though. In fact, all tunes still rely on the influence of Brazilian music and there's a lot of percussion in the arrangements, several orchestral parts, etc. The songwriting process saw the participation of all members, so the album is quite diversified. At the same time, it maintains all the main characteristics of the band.

"As an innovation, a 'virtual single' will precede the release of the new album: fans will be able to download the song 'The Course Of Nature' from the Internet. The artwork of the single will also be online, so it can be downloaded and printed as well. Such single must be available around September.

Guitarist Anders Björler previously stated about the new CD, "Completing 'The Dead Eye' basically took all spring, starting with some rehearsing and pre-production early January. We left the Antfarm studio in early June a bit perplexed but with a sense of having created something very strong and powerful. You always feel a bit weird after a recording session. It's hard to distance yourself from your work, but this time we all felt that we had accomplished something out of the ordinary. Working with Tue Madsen as engineer/producer has been great, and it surely reflects on the album. CELESTY last year announced the addition of guitarist Teemu Koskela to the group's ranks. Koskela replaced longtime axeman J-P Alanen, who left the group to concentrate on his musical studies and his work with fellow Finnish metallers ALTARIA.

SOULGRIND, the Finnish band featuring former LULLACRY frontwoman Tanja "Whisper Lilith" Kemppainen (a.k.a. Tanya), has announced the addition of former FINNTROLL singer Tapio Wilska as its new bassist. German melodic metallers MOB RULES shot a video for the song "The Last Farewell" earlier in the week in Wilhemshaven, Germany with director Ronald Mattes of Berlin's Team ROAX. Check out pictures from the shoot at this location.

"The Last Farewell" comes off the group's new album, "Ethnolution A.D.", due in Europe on October 23 (October 20 in Germany).

Produced once again by Markus Teske (VANDEN PLAS, SPOCK'S BEARD, OASIS), "Ethnolution A.D." marks the recording debut with the group of guitarist Sven Lüdke (ex-MURDER ONE) and bassist Markus Brinkmann. According to a press release, "next to typical MOB RULES characteristics, such as creative intros, gritty guitar riffs and driving rhythms, the new album also holds a few surprises in store. Such as the recording's centrepiece, the monumental four-part opus, 'Ethnolution', which is is certain to go down well with MOB RULES' large following. The offering alternates between progressive approaches that touch on QUEENSRŸCHE in terms of atmospheric density, almost thrashy guitar riffs and a raging finale that deserves the term 'anthem.' Never before have MOB RULES combined their whole diversity as convincingly in one single song, the haunting number's lyrics dealing with the ethnological development of the human race."

The PORCUPINE TREE's first ever DVD release "Arriving Somewhere..." is in the final stages of production, and release dates are as follows:

• Japan (WHD Entertainment) - 27th September
  

Prior to retail release the DVD will be available from the Porcupine Tree Store from early September, with pre-orders due to start in mid-August. It will also be available to buy at the merchandise stand throughout the band's forthcoming tour. The first 2,000 copies bought directly from the band will be numbered and come with an exclusive set of 6 postcards.

The DVD is a 2-disc set. Disc one is a full show from the Deadwing tour filmed at Park West, Chicago in Oct 2005, with the soundtrack mixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound. Disc two includes bonus live performances of "Futile" and "Radioactive Toy" from German TV show Rockpalast, the "Lazarus" promo clip, the live films used during the show for "Start of Something Beautiful" (by Przemyslaw Vshebor and Lasse Hoile), "Halo", and "Mother and Child Divided" (both by Lasse Hoile), Gavin Harrison's "Cymbal Song" (also in 5.1 sound), a photo gallery, and exclusive mixes and music created especially for the gallery and credits on the DVD.

On October 24, ILL NIÑO, the world re-known bi-lingual Latino metal sextet, will release a new five-song EP, "The Undercover Sessions", comprised of three of their favorite cover songs from bands they loved growing up as fans, and two brand new songs — all overseen by legendary producer Andy Johns (LED ZEPPELIN, VAN HALEN, OZZY OSBOURNE), Dave Chavarri and Eddie Wohl (ANTHRAX, 36 CRAZYFISTS, MACHINE HEAD). The EP — the band's first release through Cement Shoes Records — is just a taste of what's to come from ILL NIÑO, as their highly anticipated fourth full-length studio album, due for a spring 2007 delivery, is destined to be the band's strongest effort to date.
