Heavy Metal Superstars Featured On BEATLES Compilation

Heavy Metal Superstars Featured On BEATLES Compilation

On October 24, 2006, Restless Records will release "Butchering The Beatles" — featuring the biggest, the baddest, the heaviest all-star line-up ever assembled to honor what is arguably the greatest band ever — THE BEATLES.

All-in-all, over 50 internationally known recording artists bring their unique bone-crushing slant to these remarkable songs. Produced by Grammy award-winning producer/guitarist Bob Kulick and ace engineer Brett Chassen, "Butchering The Beatles" features 12 new, ass-kicking versions of THE BEATLES' chart-topping hits, including "Hey Jude", "I Feel Fine" and "Day Tripper", plus the more esoteric "Hey Bulldog", barked out by the legendary Alice Cooper and "Tomorrow Never Knows", uniquely interpreted by the iconic Billy Idol, alongside classic concept songs like "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "Magical Mystery Tour".

When asked by Guitar Player magazine what possessed him to go all metal on THE BEATLES, Bob Kulick stated that, "BEATLES songs are the Holy Grail. They're the best rock songs ever written. These new recordings are totally faithful, yet completely different. Billy Gibbons singing 'Revolution' or (MOTÖRHEAD frontman) Lemmy singing 'Back In The USSR' are not exactly Paul McCartney or John Lennon. And of course, the guitar solo sections were lengthened to accommodate all the artists' solo styles."

EUROPE: New Album Title, Release Date Announced

EUROPE: New Album Title, Release Date Announced

Reunited Swedish hard rockers EUROPE have posted the following message on their official web site:

"All of us in the band have just met up in Berlin to meet with our record company. We have just listened to our new CD together after the final mastering has been done. We can't believe it, we did it! A new album is ready for you. It will be released the 27th of October in Scandinavia and Europe. America and Asia will follow shortly.

"It's been an intense and creative time for us in the band. We spent around 60 days of this summer rehearsing, recording and mixing the songs. At one point we had four studios on the go at the same time. One for John's [Norum] guitar overdubs, one for Joey [Tempest] and Mic [Michaeli] doing vocals and keyboards, one studio where we did some programming (loops etc.) and finally one studio where Stefan Glaumann mixed the songs. We even slept in the studio and worked in shifts to get it done in time.

"It has turned out to be (we think) one of the best EUROPE albums so far. It has a very contemporary sound but there are some classic EUROPE trademarks in there. We have pushed the limits again, we have taken some chances. We had a lot of fun doing it with a lot of hard work.

"The name of the CD will be 'Secret Society'. We will put samples of a few songs on our website very soon. And soon you will be able see the 'official biography' for 'Secret Society' before anyone else, right here on our site. At the same time we are starting to plan our next tour. It looks like we are touring Scandinavia this autumn and the rest of Europe in the beginning of 2007. After that we are planning to play festivals in Europe, tour Asia, U.S. and the U.K.

"As soon as our artwork is ready, which is being done by the legendary Storm Thorgerson, we will put up a brand new look for our website with a lot of new stuff.

"Looking forward to seeing you on tour. Hope you enjoy our new CD. We are very proud of it."

SYMPHONY X: New Album Update

SYMPHONY X: New Album Update

Progressive metal act SYMPHONY X is continuing work on its follow-up to 2002's "The Odyssey", entitled "Paradise Lost", tentatively due before the end of the year. The following message has been posted on the group's official web site:

"It would appear that one of the early drafts of the [new] CD cover has been leaked to at least one website; the band hasn't had a chance to okay any final artwork, so what you see floating around out there is NOT the final CD cover art.

"Jason [Rullo, drums] is done recording his parts, and the rhythm tracks and other guitar parts should be done by next week. The band's aiming to have the music ready for mixing by mid-September; Michael James Romeo [guitar] says that things are moving right along."

SYMPHONY X expects to return to the road shortly after the release of the new album.

SYMPHONY X was recently forced to cancel a couple of European festival appearances after bassist Michael LePond was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease (an inflammatory bowel disorder). He has since underegone surgery and has been released from the hospital.

SYMPHONY X was one of the second-stage bands at last summer's Gigantour, a six-week festival trek co-headlined by MEGADETH and DREAM THEATER. "Rarities and Demos", the first fan club CD from the SYMPHONY X fan club, Church of the Machine, was shipped out in July 2005 to fan club members. The CD included demo material, rare unreleased material, and guitarist Michael James Romeo's interpretation of the "Star Wars" theme, done with over 15 guitar tracks.

In 1987 the band went back into the studio this time with Rich on vocals and the result was a new four-track release featuring "Do or Die", "Unchained", "Through Your Eyes", and "Only The Strong Survive". These tracks appeared on various compilations and were well received by the heavy metal press.

In early 1989, the band split up, but the fans and supporters remained to this day. A RUFFIANS reunion became a reality when the band was invited to play Germany's Bang Your Head Festival in June of 2004.

JAG PANZER Preparing To Record Live Album

JAG PANZER Preparing To Record Live Album

JAG PANZER guitarist Mark Briody has issued the following update regarding the band's long-awaited live CD/DVD release:

"Things are progressing VERY well in preparing for the live album. Lots of help from Century Media and an A+ concert promoter I'll name when the details are finalized. I will say this: No one has EVER seen a JAG PANZER show like this one. Every show we've done in the past years has been done with shoestring budgets and minimal gear (whatever we could check on a plane). This will be a full-on headlining show — all your favorite PANZER tunes, special merch, tons of gear and other surprises."

In other news, JAG PANZER releases will figure prominently in Century Media's yearly "10-Year Reissues" series. Since 2007 is the 10-year anniversary of "The Fourth Judgement", look for a "very cool new version" of that album next year. Plans include a new cover, remaster, inclusion of the original demo tracks, liner notes and photos.

JAG PANZER's last studio album, "Casting the Stones", was released in October 2004 via Century Media. Said to be "a more aggressive version" of 2001's "Mechanized Warfare", the CD was recorded in part at Tampa's Morrisound Studios with producer Jim Morris. Download the song "Battered & Bruised" at this location.

German power metallers HELLOWEEN recently shot a video for the track "Light the Universe" in Burg Veldenstein, Germany. The clip features a guest appearance by BLACKMORE'S NIGHT singer Candice Night.

Despite good advance ticket sales (where pre-sales already where available), North American organizers of the tour could not guarantee an economical and adequate routing of the tour. Therefore a consequent cancellation two months before tour start seemed the band management to be the fairest for fans and promoters at this point."

HELLOWEEN's latest album, "Keeper of the Seven Keys - The Legacy", is available now on SPV Records. The lineup on the record includes singer Andi Deris, guitarists Michael Weikath and Sascha Gerstner, bassist Markus Großkopf and drummer Dani Löble (ex-RAWHEAD REXX).

The group will enter Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA on Monday, August 21 to begin tracking the effort, with vocalist/guitarist Robert Flynn returning to the producer's chair, and Mark Keaton once again handling engineering duties. Longtime MACHINE HEAD collaborator Colin Richardson (CANNIBAL CORPSE, TRIVIUM, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) will also be returning to mix the record alongside Flynn this October in London. Tentative songtitles for "The Blackening" include "Clenching the Fists of Dissent", "Aesthetics of Hate", "Halo", "The Beautiful Mourning", "Now I Lay Thee Down", "Slanderous Love", "Wolves" and "A Farewell to Arms". The band has also tapped longtime MACHINE HEAD artist Paul Brown (MARILYN MANSON) to begin working on album art in the coming weeks.

"Words can't really describe how excited we are to get into the studio and record this record," exclaims drummer Dave McClain. "The shows that we just played on the Sounds of the Underground tour were as amazing as we'd hoped they'd be, the raw energy and excitement level of our fans right now is just incredible. We're fired up!"

Guitarist Phil Demmel adds, "We’re still smoothing out some rough edges but what we have, we’re extremely proud of. I'm not one to go off on 'heavier than blah-blah-blah!!!!' and 'crushes your-these-and-those!!!!' but I will say that fans of what we call 'just fuckin' metal' will be digging this new material."

CANNIBAL CORPSE:

CANNIBAL CORPSE: 'Death Walking Terror' Video Posted Online

CANNIBAL CORPSE's video for the song "Death Walking Terror" has been posted online at Yahoo! Music. The track comes off "Kill", the band's 10th studio LP, which came out late March. The album debuted at No. 170 on The Billboard 200 chart, selling more than 6,000 copies in its first week. It was the second time in the band's career that one of its albums breached the mostly pop-friendly list; in 1996, "Vile" opened at No. 151, with more than 6,100 copies sold.

Regarding the band's song choice for the new video, CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster previously told MTV.com, "Every one of our songs has some kind of violent or dark imagery in it, but we have to look for songs that are a little less graphic. We only have a couple of songs on each record where the lyrics aren't more or less R-rated for violence. We have to carefully choose what songs we do videos for, because otherwise it won't make it passed the censors. The song 'Murder Worship', I think all of us would have liked to have done a video for that. But there's no way, with the decapitated heads and all."
