AL ATKINS - Lost Performance Footage From 2005 Of 'Victim Of Changes' Surfaces On line
 The clip below is recently discovered footage from 2005 of the AL ATKINS BAND - featuring original JUDAS PRIEST singer Al Atkins - performing the classic 'Victim Of Changes':

At the beginning of the year Atkins spoke with Greece's Rock Overdose about a number of topics. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
What are your feelings on the new Atkins May Project album, Valley Of Shadows?
Atkins: "It has to be one of the very best recordings I have ever been involved with. Our first offering 'Serpents Kiss' took us by surprise how well it was received and they were just a bunch of really good random songs that Paul had written but this time Paul wrote all the material with me and my vocal style in mind so I was more comfortable singing 'Valley of Shadows'. From the heavy opener 'Welcome to the Nightmare' the album weaves its way through classic British metal, heavy blues rock and even progressive metal songs so there's something for everyone on this album."
Rockoverdose.gr: What was your reaction when KK Downing left Judas Priest?
Atkins: "I was shocked like everyone else but he is 60 years old and if he feels it's time for him to retire that's up to him. I thought he may return to record another album and play the odd festival in a six-piece line up like Iron Maiden did but that's not to be, so I have been told."
Rockoverdose.gr: Do you find the appropriate credit was given to you, having written songs on the first two albums, but also having offered that legendary band-name nowadays?
Atkins: "Yes and no would be my answer... I think credit was given to me but I wished that they would have put my name as a past member on their official website.. It wouldn't have done them any harm but I bear no grudge against them after all it could be their management who stops a lot of things happening. I'm still in touch with some of the band and went to Ian's (Hill; Priest bassist) house for a New Year Party last week."

XANDRIA: New Album Title, Cover Artwork, Release Date Revealed
 German symphonic metallers XANDRIA will release their sixth album, "Sacrificium", on May 2. According to the band, the follow-up to 2012's "Neverworld's End" will "continue the musical journey and direction" of the last CD but "will bring in even more of everything people liked" about "Neverworld's End".
The cover artwork for "Sacrificium" can be seen below.
XANDRIA last fall parted ways with their singer of three years, Manuela Kraller. Her replacement is the "astonishing 28-year-old Dutch talent" Dianne Van Giersbergen, who also fronts the progressive metal outfit EX LIBRIS.
Said Manuela in a statement: "After three years with the boys in XANDRIA, I decided to follow a different path and go my own musical way."
The sympathethic Bavarian singer left with regret but also full of gratitude, thanking band and fans for the time they had together and being grateful for the "wonderful moments in mutual tours and shows." Manuela also wished Dianne and band "all the very best for the future!"
Dianne Van Giersbergen made her live debut with XANDRIA at the end of November on a Spanish tour. Fan-filmed video footage of the Barcelona concert can be seen below.
Fans had a last chance to see Kraller singing with XANDRIA in October 2013 in Leipzig, Germany and Pratteln, Switzerland, where she performed at the Masters Of Symphonic Metal festival at Z7.

MEMORY OF A MELODY - 'Phantoms & Shadows' Video Released
 San Antonio five-piece MEMORY OF A MELODY has released the video for the track 'Phantoms & Shadows'.
Stephen Castro and the Miranda Studios team again as well as working together with the movie team from Voice Of The Unknown, A Paranormal Investigation, a documentary lead by filmmaker Will Scoville. Working together with the movie team, Alyssa Onyx (Voice Of The Unknown), Stephanie Galdos, and Audry Bond were true professionals, and committed a lot of time, energy, and dedication to capturing the vision for the video.
This video was filmed on location at the actual Haunted Magnolia Hotel, own by paranormal author Erin O Wallace located in Seguin, Texas. The Magnolia Hotel was home to New Braunfels' notorious axe murderer in 1874.

CHASTAIN: 'Rise Up' Lyric Video Released
 The official lyric video for the song "Rise Up" from the reformed CHASTAIN — featuring Leather Leone on vocals — can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's comeback album, "Surrender To No One", which was released on November 19, 2013 via Leviathan Records.
Comments CHASTAIN guitarist David T. Chastain: "We wanted to get something official up there as soon as possible, so we arranged for a lyric video of 'Rise Up'. I think it turned out pretty damn good, all things considered.
"There are already quite a few fan videos out there for the new CD. Some more elaborate than others.
"We hope to have performance videos for a few of the tracks in the not-too-distant future. However, with members living all over the world, it is going to take some 'studio trickery' to pull it off. However, we have done something similar in the past so it is just a matter of time."

Also back in the saddle is original bassist Mike Skimmerhorn. The drum tracks for the CD were recorded by Stian Kristoffersen (PAGAN'S MIND, FIREWIND) since original drummer Fred Coury is still busy touring with CINDERELLA and other projects.
The Leather-fronted version of CHASTAIN recorded five CDs in the mid-to-late 1980s: 1985's "Mystery Of Illusion", 1986's "Ruler Of The Wasteland", 1987's "The 7th Of Never", 1988's "The Voice Of The Cult" and 1990's "For Those Who Dare". After the "For Those Who Dare" tour, David and Leather amicably went their separate ways but kept in touch over the years.
Leather last year released the debut album from her SLEDGE LEATHER project, "Imagine Me Alive". The CD was inspired in 2010 when Leather called Sandy Sledge to collaborate on the Ronnie James Dio track "Egypt" for a demo tribute recording. Due to the overwhelming response for more material, SLEDGE LEATHER was born and was confirmed for Germany's Keep It True festival in April 2011.
Regarding the new CHASTAIN material, David stated: "We are trying to write and record music that is expected of us but with some modern twists and turns. We demoed up 20 tracks and it was difficult to leave any of them off the CD. Stian did an amazing job with the drum tracks and his performance is probably the best drumming on any CHASTAIN release to date."
Leviathan Records in 2010 released "The Reign of Leather", a collection of CHASTAIN tracks Leather had a hand in writing during her glory days with the band. Leviathan also reissued two of the classic CHASTAIN CDs with Leather: "The 7th of Never" and "The Voice Of The Cult". Both were digitally remastered and are in their original unedited versions.

SILENCE THE SKY Releases 'Jenova' Single
 Norwegian metallers SILENCE THE SKY have released a new single, "Jenova", from their long-awaited debut album, "Ancient". Check it out using the SoundCloud widget below.
"Ancient" will be released through Negative Vibe Records in March.
Hailing from Halden and later joined by some of Oslo's talent, SILENCE THE SKY made some tiny ripples with its debut, 2010's "Citadel", an EP consisting of energy-driven brutality mixed with the rawness of hardcore.

LAMB OF GOD's MORTON Sitting Out European Tour; BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME's WAGGONER Filling In
 Guitarist Mark Morton of Richmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD is sitting out at least the first few shows of the band's current European headlining tour due to a "family emergency." Filling in for him is Paul Waggoner of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME.
Fan-filmed video footage of the first show of the European tour, which took place last night (Monday, January 6) in Vienna, Austria, can be seen below.
Prior to performing the song "Walk With Me In Hell" at the Vienna concert, LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe explained Morton's absence, telling the crowd, "You may have noticed Mr. Mark Morton is not here with us tonight. He had a family emergency, so he had to stay home. It's family first for this band. We apologize, but he had to be with his family. Luckly, we have a very big music family, so we've got our friend Paul Waggoner from BETWEEN THE BURIED IN ME [playing with us tonight]."
LAMB OF GOD recently entered into a worldwide distribution deal with Specticast (LED ZEPPELIN's "Celebration Day", Paul McCartney's "Rock Show") for their Don Argott-directed ("Last Days Here", "Art Of The Steal", "School Of Rock") feature film "As The Palaces Burn". Filming for the movie began in 2012 and concluded in March of 2013. "As The Palaces Burn", which should not be confused with the making-of documentary packaged with the recent re-release of the 2003 LAMB OF GOD album of the same name, was conceived to be a documentary focused on the power of music and its impact on cultures around the world and its ability to bring together people of all nationalities regardless of religious or political differences. After a worldwide casting call, filming took place in Colombia, Venezuela, Israel, India, and the United States. As filming reached its conclusion, the documentary was forced to take a major turn when the band's lead singer, Randy Blythe, was arrested in the Czech Republic and charged with the murder of a fan in June 2012. Granted unique access to Blythe's saga, Argott's filming covered Blythe's 38-day imprisonment in Prague, his release and the band's return to live performances, and finally Blythe's trial for murder in Prague in February 2013. "As The Palaces Burn" will debut worldwide on February 27. Following the film, a 30-minute question-and-answer session with the entire band and Don Argott will be shown. The question-and-answer session was conducted by VH1 Classic's Eddie Trunk and filmed at the final show of the band's North American tour in support of their most recent release, "Resolution". | 0 | |

Ex-MEGADETH Guitarist Jeff Young Performs LED ZEPPELIN's 'Whole Lotta Love' With Vocalist Sherri Klein; Live Video Available
 Ex-MEGADETH guitarist Jeff Young has posted live footage of LED ZEPPELIN's 'Whole Lotta Love' performed with vocalist Sherri Klein:
Young recently checked in with the following update:
"We have new live video on the way from our recent show at Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas at Hard Rock Hotel. In the meantime, you can check out our very first impromptu go at VAN HALEN's classic track, 'Little Dreamer'. This performance is from our first StageIt show. We have another StageIt online web concert planned on the near horizon so, stay tuned for exact show date and time at this location."
Back In October, Young and Klein announced details of two new studio tracks. An update reads:
"We're treating our first release like the old 45 RPM singles with a Side A & B.
Side A: Our first original is called, 'Come Closer' and features an amazing bass performance by James Lomenzo (Megadeth, Black Label Society) and Jeff Bowders (PAUL GILBERT, JUSTIN DERRICO, PUDDLE OF MUDD) on drums. Band tracks were recorded in Los Angeles, live (like how bands used to record) to 2" analog tape. Lead vocals, guitar solos and mixing was completed with Bobby Ferarri at Vegas View Recording.
Side B: 'Wild Horses' is our re-imagining of THE ROLLING STONES classic. This side features fretless bass by Ric Fierabracci (STEVIE WONDER, BILLY COBHAM, SHAKIRA) and Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE, BILLY IDOL, FOREIGNER) on drums.
The tracks are recorded, mixed and ready for release. We're currently talking with some folks regarding the most appropriate release avenues. In the meantime, we just played our first show in Las Vegas at a benefit for the Mt. Charleston fires. The band's second full-length album, "Men Of Honor", will be released February 18 in North America and February 24 internationally. ADRENALINE MOB's current lineup includes Russell Allen (vocals; also of SYMPHONY X), Mike Orlando (guitar), John Moyer (bass; also of DISTURBED), and the band's latest addition, drummer A.J. Drummer Mike Portnoy (FLYING COLORS, THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) quit ADRENALINE MOB in June 2013 due to "scheduling conflicts."
In a recent interview with Brazil's "Wikimetal", Allen stated about Portnoy's departure from ADRENALINE MOB: "He's been, obviously, real busy with THE WINERY DOGS. The truth of it is we wanna keep working, we wanna keep doing ADRENALINE MOB and we don't wanna wait around for Mike to have the time [to put into ADRENALINE MOB]. And he doesn't know when he will have the time again, so that's really what's going down. Mike Portnoy was asked to be in the band by myself. Me and Orlando had already written all the material, so [ADRENALINE MOB's debut album] 'Omertá' was completely finished before Mike joined the act. And it's a bummer, but he's got his sights on other things, and he's not gonna stick around. So we wish him the best of luck, but the MOB's gotta go on."
ADRENALINE MOB released "Covertá", an eight-track EP featuring cover versions of some of the group's favorite songs, on March 12, 2013.

Video: MACHINE HEAD's PHIL DEMMEL Joins NONPOINT On Stage In San Francisco
 MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel joined NONPOINT on stage on December 18 at The Warfield in San Francisco, California to perform the song "The Wreckoning". Video footage of his appearance can be seen below (courtesy of Stephanie Cabral and Capital Chaos TV).
NONPOINT's January 31 concert at Club Revolution in Fort Lauderdale, Florida will be filmed for an upcoming DVD.
NONPOINT's self-titled album sold 7,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 62 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous CD, "Miracle" (2010), opened with around 8,000 units to land at No. 60.
"Nonpoint" was produced/mixed by Grammy-nominated producer Johnny K (DISTURBED, STAIND, MEGADETH) and features additional production and mixing from Brian Virtue (30 SECONDS TO MARS, CHEVELLE).
MACHINE HEAD will enter the studio in February to begin recording its new album for a late summer release via the band's new label, Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Tentative songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Killers & Kings", "Beneath The Silt", "Ojos De La Muerte", "Sail Into The Black" and "Night Of The Long Knives".

DIR EN GREY Vocalist Lauches SUKEKIYO Side Project; New Video To Be Released New Year's Day
 DIR EN GREY vocalist Kyo has launched a new side project dubbed SUKEKIYO. An overview of the band reads as follows:
"The greatest thing about Sukekiyo thus far is their sound. Sukekiyo is not Kyo: The Band, it's an entirely new entity. The instrumentals rival Kyo in personality, and yet they compliment each-other so well. For a 'new' band, their chemistry is superb, and they play in perfect unison."

HATRIOT - New Album Delayed Until February
 HATRIOT, the Bay Area thrash powerhouse featuring former EXODUS singer Steve “Zetro” Souza, have delayed the release of their second album, Dawn Of The New Centurion, until February 21st via Massacre Records.
Following up their debut, Heroes Of Origin, the band has once again enlisted Juan Urteaga (TESTAMENT, MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS) to handle production duties.

Norway's GRIMSKULL Release 'Iron Eyes' Single Featuring BLAZE BAYLEY; Free Download / Stream Available
 Norwegian metallers GRIMSKULL have released their new single, 'Iron Eyes', featuring former IRON MAIDEN singer BLAZE BAYLEY on lead vocals.
The single is digital only, but will be included as a bonus track on the upcoming Grimskull album. The song can be found on iTunes and Spotify, but can also be downloaded for free on the band's official SoundCloud page (listen below).
The band was originally formed in 1989, but resurrected in 2009 under the name of Grimskull. Their debut album, Monster Master, was released in 2012. | 0 | |

Spain's FREQUENCY To Release Sophomore Album In February; Audio Sample Streaming
 Spanish melodic death metal band FREQUENCY will release their second album, The Flow, in February via Izkar Producciones. The 15-track album describes the course of a person's life, from birth until death.
The recording of this album took place this summer in Madrid at Sadman Studios. The album was mastered at Finnvox Finland by Mika Jussila and the artwork was created by Phlegeton Art Studio.

NERVECELL - Trailer For Shout Symphony Documemtary Online
 Dubai-based NERVECELL have posted a short trailer for their forthcoming band documentary, Shout Symphony:
Nervecell guitarist Rami Mustafa spoke with WhatsTheScene India in early 2013. An excerpt from the interview is available below:
WTS: So now that there is easier access to underground metal, is there more reception to Nervecell’s music?
RM: "Of course! When we started in 2001, the scene in Dubai was bad. But 2001 to 2005 it was really good. There were a lot of bands and a lot of underground gigs but people didn’t know too much about metal. They used to come to our shows and learn and realize - this is metal, this is death metal, this is thrash metal. We used to talk with everyone. We used to go out after our show to our friends and fans and have a chat and talk about bands and sometimes trade albums. It was a learning process. So yeah, for the past 3-4 years, I think the internet and YouTube and technology have helped the younger generation to learn about metal really faster than before, in a shorter span of time. Nowadays I find that musicians that can play a guitar lesson on YouTube (laughs). It’s not a bad thing at all you know!"
WTS: The Middle East is seen generally as a very conservative society, has there been any sort of opposition to your music and your lyrical themes?
RM: "No, not at all! A lot of people get confused by countries like Dubai and Qatar, these countries are really modern, very globalized so it’s not a problem. What we sing about is really about humanitarian issues and personal issues, nothing extreme lyrically. So we’ve never had these problems. As kids, growing up in the society we learned that we have to respect traditions and morals no matter what. For me, it was purely about the music and then the lyrics. We were fine you know. Other countries have issues with metal at gigs and concerts. We’d have had some problems playing there but we’ve never been to these countries. We try to avoid trouble and we were very careful so there has been no problem."
WTS: So did growing up in the Middle East influence your music in any way?
RM: "Yeah, of course! The thing is James, he writes the lyrics, its a self-expressive kind of music and doesn’t necessarily have to be negative. A lot of it is about reality, it could be about what’s happening around us and it could be about things between close friends or could be about what’s happening in the world in general. We don’t really have topics that pinpoint and they are mostly general. What’s happening in the world does affect us but we don’t really take it to the level where it’s concentrated to the lyrics. We always concentrate on the music first."

Video: Getting To Know DE LA TIERRA Featuring SEPULTURA, MANÁ, Ex-A.N.I.M.A.L. Members
 A 16-minute video introducing the members of Latin metal group DE LA TIERRA, consisting of Andreas Kisser, guitarist of SEPULTURA, Andrés Giménez, former leader of A.N.I.M.A.L., Sr. Flavio, bassist of LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS, and Alex González, drummer of MANÁ, can be seen below.
Roadrunner Records and Warner Music Latina will release the eagerly anticipated self-titled debut album from DE LA TIERRA, on January 14. The CD cover artwork can be seen below.
"De La Tierra", the band's crushing 11-song debut was recorded and mixed by Stanley Soares (MOTÖRHEAD, SEPULTURA) in Sao Paulo, Guadalajara, Buenos Aires and Los Angeles and produced by the band themselves. The album, which marks an electrifying new chapter for the always daring members of DE LA TIERRA, will feature lyrics sung entirely in both Spanish and Portuguese, elevating the group's Latin roots.
"On 'De La Tierra', there are some moments when you feel the world is coming to an end and others when the sky seems to open up, letting the light shine," says Gonzalez. "It is metal that is fast, powerful, explosive, with lots of adrenaline. You have darkness and light. There is melody and also a lot of punch."
DE LA TIERRA's history can be traced back eight years to backstage conversations between Giménez and González, discussing their passion for heavy music. A tour with MANÁ brought González to Argentina in 2011, which rekindled discussions of starting a group with Gimenez. The following evening the two had dinner with Flavio, a friend of Giménez's who both revered, as the three flirted with the idea of forming a power trio. Giménez however wanted more firepower and suggested Kisser as a possible second guitarist. González reached out to Kisser via email telling him about the project which was conceived as a gathering of like minds to create metal music which they all enjoyed and appreciated. Kisser responded immediately: "I am the band's guitar player!"
