KISS Calls The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 'A Joke'

The Pulse Of Radio reports: For the 13th year in a row, KISS has been passed up for inclusion into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Had they been inducted in 1999, the year they were first eligible, they would have entered with Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Dusty Springfield, and Curtis Mayfield, among others. That year, instead of KISS joining those legends in the Hall, the late Del Shannon was inducted — an artist, whose influence and fan-base simply can't be compared to the New York rockers. Over the years, KISS has watched such '70s peers as AEROSMITH, the RAMONES, AC/DC, ZZ TOP, the SEX PISTOLS, the STOOGES, and Alice Cooper enter before them.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley spoke about once again being shut out of the Rock Hall, with Simmons telling Rolling Stone: "It's become a joke. We've been thinking about it and the answer is simply, 'We'll just buy it and fire everybody.' In all seriousness for the fans, for something to be called Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is such an insult to MADONNA, BLONDIE. . . Who the fuck knows what other disco act is in there? It's an insult to them because they don't get to be in the 'Dance Hall Of Fame', because that's what they do. They're legitimate dance, disco artists. They don't belong in rock and roll."

Paul Stanley went on to add: "The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has reached a point where they're really scrounging and scratching to find someone left that they consider viable. With all due respect, when you get to Patti Smith, you're about two steps away from Pete Seeger."

Gene Simmons told The Pulse Of Radio that awards hold little allure for him, since it's the fans that ultimately decide who stays around and who doesn't: "Our awards are under the 'K' section in record stores. Every time somebody goes out and plunks down their hard-earned money — either for a KISS ticket or for an album — that's the award, and reward."

Paul Stanley told The Pulse Of Radio that he looks at the big picture when considering KISS' career. "When you think of Muhammad Ali, you think of him as the champ," he said. "You don't think of the times he lost — and he did. I'd rather think of us in those terms. Nobody stays on top all the time, but who's been champ longest?"

KISS has just wrapped production on their 20th album, "Monster". No release date has been announced.

They'll next perform on Friday (March 30) in New Orleans at the NCAA Big Dance at Woldenburg Riverfront Park.

A brand new promotional photo of KREATOR can be seen below (photo by Stefan Heilemann of Stuttgart, Germany's Heilemania).

When asked about the musical direction of KREATOR's new material, the band's guitarist/vocalist Miland "Mille" Petrozza stated in a recent interview, "I think it's OK to say that this will be our most epic album so far. There's some classical, a lot of traditional metal, and, of course, a huge dose of thrash metal influences in the new stuff."

Speaking to Aftonbladet journalist Mattias Kling, Petrozza stated about KREATOR's collaboration with Jens Bogren, "He's really good; I like him. I like the sounds that he gets. And I think the combination — Jens Bogren and KREATOR — it will be pretty heavy."

On the topic of how the new material is different from KREATOR's previous output, Mille said, "It will definitely have all the KREATOR trademarks. The lyrics will talk about nowadays stuff, as usual, so it will be like a photography of the year 2012. Also the lyrics will deal a lot of things that are actually happening at this point in time. It will be like reading a newspaper or something [laughs], with all the stuff happening. And, of course, the music will be typical KREATOR, and we also wanna expand the sound and progress as musicians. I mean, this lineup has been the strongest lineup KREATOR ever had since ten years, and now I think we're ready to come out with an album that blows everyone away."

KREATOR has selected Poland's Grupa 13 (BEHEMOTH, ELUVEITIE, SONATA ARCTICA, DECAPITATED) to helm the video for the title track of their forthcoming album, "Phantom Antichrist".

GORGUTS Added To 'DEATH To All Tour 2012'

Canadian technical death metallers GORGUTS have been confirmed as the support act for the "Death To All Tour 2012" in benefit of Sweet Relief. This five-city tour will feature a majority of DEATH's amazing musicians, as well as special guests. This tour is to celebrate the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as to raise awareness of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund — a charity that provides financial assistance to career musicians faced with illness, disability or age-related problems.

This tour will kick off in San Francisco, California and work its way to Orlando, Florida — stopping in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York along the way. GORGUTS will open all shows up to, but not including, Orlando.

Commented GORGUTS mainman Luc Lemay: “If I owe one person regarding the fact that I chose to become a death metal musician in life, I totally owe this to Chuck Schuldiner.

"Back in '86-'87, I was already a fan of the genre with POSSESSED's 'Seven Churches', CELTIC FROST's 'Morbid Tales' and HELLHAMMER's 'Apocalyptic Raids'. But the day I put my hand on DEATH's 'Scream Bloody Gore' cassette tape, my life changed. All I wanted was to become a guitar player, playing death metal and singing with a raw, evil and brutal voice like Chuck.

"So here I am, twenty five years later, as passionate as day one. Being on stage paying homage to this amazingly visionary and creative artist, Chuck Schuldiner. In my heart I see him as important as any composer of the 20th and 21st centuries. He created a language and a musical esthetic that will never be forgotten."

The drums on the "Death To All Tour 2012" will be handled by Gene Hoglan ("Individual Thought Patterns", "Symbolic") and Sean Reinert ("Human"). On bass will be Steve DiGiorgio ("Human", "Individual Thought Patterns") and Scott Clendenin ("The Sound Of Perseverance"). Guitar duties will be shared by Paul Masvidal ("Human"), Shannon Hamm ("The Sound of Perseverance") and Bobby Koelble ("Symbolic"). The vocals will be taken care of by Steffen Kummerer of OBSCURA and Charles Elliott of ABYSMAL DAWN and BEREFT.

The dates are as follows:

June 22 - The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco, CA
June 23 - House of Blues – West Hollywood, CA
June 26 - House of Blues - Chicago, IL
June 28 - Irving Plaza – New York, NY
June 30 - The Beacham - Orlando, FL

For more information, go to this location.

Chuck died on December 13, 2001 after a battle with pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor.

SUFFOCATION Bassist: 'It's Not Over!'

Mark Holmes of Metal Discovery conducted an interview with bassist Derek Boyer of New York death metallers SUFFOCATION before the band's March 15 concert in Liverpool, England. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Metal Discovery: So [drummer] Mike Smith left recently, of course, and he's already spoken out in an interview I've read to say his departure was "inevitable." Did the rest of the band feel that was inevitable as well?

Derek: You know, deep down we love the guy and we just kind of had a different direction in mind and it was nothing personal…I mean, for me personally, nothing personal. It was more we wanted to go full steam ahead and he kind of wanted to do it a different way. And nothing wrong with his way but his way didn't work with the way we were trying to move. We wanted to do more work and it just wasn't the right time today. But still respect for him; a lot of respect and that's that.

Metal Discovery: Mike's been quite critical of the band in the interview I read after he left – was his departure amicable from your point of view?

Derek: We're really not trying to defame anyone. He's speaking his perspective and we're just trying to be professional and move forward and that's pretty much the deal.

Metal Discovery: There have been a few rumors on the Internet lately about SUFFOCATION splitting up. Were you surprised by that kind of overreaction based on just one lineup change?

Derek: It's not over!

Metal Discovery: But were you surprised about people overreacting in that way?

Derek: Er, yeah, some people, you know, let's say you're a diehard Mike Smith fan — if Mike Smith's not in the band, then maybe your feelings are hurt and maybe it's not SUFFOCATION if you're a diehard Mike Smith fan.

Metal Discovery: I gather a new album's set to be released later this year but nothing's actually been recorded yet?

Derek: Well, we have all the pre-production done. We're recording the record ourselves and so now we've gotta get everybody up to speed, teach everybody all the parts, make sure everybody feels comfortable with the tempos, and write the harmonies. There's still some lyrical content that needs to be done but that's the fun part, you know, like putting the icing on the cake.

Metal Discovery: Is the new material much in the same vein as "Blood Oath" or has there been any progression in your sound?

Derek: I feel like it's a little more…I don't want to say aggressive if that's the only word because "Blood Oath" is pretty aggressive, too. It's really chaotic, it's really fast and it's got a lot of really heavy slams and twists. You know, it's the SUFFOCATION you know and love but also some new feel.

DEVILDRIVER Frontman Is Looking For 'Passion' In Next Label Home

Jo Schüftan of Horns Up Rocks! conducted an interview with vocalist Dez Fafara of California metallers DEVILDRIVER before the band's March 21 concert at the Gramercy Theater in New York City. You can now watch the chat below.

On what caused DEVILDRIVER's split with longtime label Roadrunner Records:

Dez: "A lot of things, I think — if you talk to them or you talk to us. But I think that the main thing is, yeah, we're label shopping. So [at] tonight's [show in] New York City, at least ten labels are here right now [to check us out] — I just talked to a bunch of them — and it's good to see them coming out for us. I think it shows what we've done in the past. Roadrunner has been my home since '96 [when Dez was still a member of COAL CHAMBER. — Ed.]. We'll really see what happens. For us, it's not about where to go for the money or any of that right now, it's where do we go for the passion? We're all remaining on good terms [with Roadrunner], so that's a good thing, and we're just moving forward."

On the songwriting process for DEVILDRIVER's next album:

Dez: "[The other guys in the band] played me three songs. Two of them, there's maybe bits of. You know, until you find the sound, you don't really go for it. But the other night in Texas, at South By Southwest, they jammed me one that they had recorded that I think is absolutely astounding — reminiscent of our first three records, but with a whole another take on DEVILDRIVER.

"What we do is we try to make every record different without going too much outside of ourselves, so we can remain who we are, really. And I think they touched on a really cool sound with this one tune that I heard. We all started writing lyrics to it and everything right away. We've kind of got a little chorus for it already that I think is amazing. So we'll see what happens.

"It's gonna be a very critical record for us.

"We've always taken time writing. Like, if we put out a record every two years, it was because we had the music, it was demoed and we were ready to go in. This one, I wanna make sure that we're ready. And I think the rest of the band does, too."

DEVILDRIVER bassist Aaron "Bubble" Patrick was released from the hospital on March 21 after receiving treatment for Streptococcus pneumonia, an inflammation and swelling of the lung, caused by an infection with the bacteria.

Patrick is sitting out DEVILDRIVER's Metal Alliance Tour, which kicked off on March 15 at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Filling in for him is Aaron's former BURY YOUR DEAD bandmate Chris Towning.

Patrick joined DEVILDRIVER as the replacement for Jonathan Miller, who quit the band in March 2011, calling it "the most difficult decision of my life" but "something that I needed to do for myself."

MIKE PORTNOY: I Literally Ate, Breathed And Shat DREAM THEATER For 25 Years

Joe Daly of The Nervous Breakdown recently conducted an interview with drummer Mike Portnoy (ADRENALINE MOB, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

The Nervous Breakdown: ADRENALINE MOB started the year off with a big personnel change, bringing on DISTURBED bassist John Moyer. I know that you actually reached out to him. What about his style made him your choice?

Portnoy: Well, I knew John from when DISTURBED and AVENGED SEVENFOLD toured together on the Uproar tour a couple summers ago, so John and I had spent a lot of time together. I knew that he was a super cool, down-to-earth guy, so I knew he'd fit in personally and stylistically, and with all of his time in DISTURBED, I knew it was a musical background that would fit right in with what the MOB is doing. Most importantly was the fact that DISTURBED had just announced that they were going on an extended hiatus, and it was critical for us to find a bass player that didn't have any other bands or commitments. We assumed we'd have to get a complete nobody or an up-and-comer because everybody else already had other bands and other things going. It just happened to turn out that it was the perfect time for John because he now has this downtime when he can commit to us and we don't have to worry about any scheduling conflicts. So on every level, John was the perfect choice.

The Nervous Breakdown: As the drummer, it's obviously important for you to find somebody that you can do business with in the rhythm section, so even before John hit the radar, was there a criteria that you personally had in mind for a new bass player?

Portnoy: Well, we were looking for somebody that was a team player and somebody who was into doing song-oriented music. Even though I have this reputation for being this over-the-top drummer and even though Mike Orlando is this incredibly flashy guitar player, we weren't looking for a crazy over-the-top bass player. We were looking for somebody who was more of a foundation type of player. So John was exactly the type of player we were looking for — a bad-ass motherfucker who could hold down the fort. John absolutely fit our criteria.

The Nervous Breakdown: Guitarist Rich Ward left the band recently. Are there any plans to replace him?

Portnoy: No, we're gonna keep the band a four-piece. When we auditioned John Moyer on bass, the other thing that we were auditioning was ourselves to see how we would sound as a four-piece. In rehearsals it sounded great, so we said, "Let's just keep this a four-piece." It's easier, it's one less scheduling obstacle to work around, and it sounded big and full, and some of our favorite bands were four-piece bands, like BLACK SABBATH, VAN HALEN and PANTERA, so we felt that it would be a good lineup to go forward with.

The Nervous Breakdown: Now that some of the dust has cleared, and in view of all you've done since DREAM THEATER, where do you see that band fitting in your overall legacy?

Portnoy: DREAM THEATER will always be the thing I'm most known for. It was twenty-five years of my life and it was something that I poured my heart and soul, blood sweat and tears into. I literally ate, breathed and shat DREAM THEATER twenty-four/seven for twenty-five years, so regardless of where they go in their career and regardless of where I go in my career, I will always and forever be linked to DREAM THEATER and that's fine with me — I'm proud of every song I wrote in that band, every album I recorded in that band, and every show I played with that band. So I have no problem with the fact that I will forever be known as "Mike Portnoy from DREAM THEATER." That's something that will never change. That's always how it's gonna be and I'm proud of that. I wouldn't want it any other way.

OPETH's Founder DAVID ISBERG Recovering After Brutal Assault

David Isberg, the Swedish musician best known for having founded the seminal Swedish progressive metal band OPETH, is recovering at a Stockholm-area hospital after he was assaulted while walking home the night of March 13. David, 37, wrote on his Facebook page on March 24, "For everyone still wondering, I was 12 days ago beaten real badly. [The] only thing I was trying to do was walk home frome my work. [I am] now at [a] hospital. Enough said."

The police believe that the assault was linked to a brawl involving several individuals — not including Isberg — that started on a bus that left central Stockholm in the early morning hours of March 14.

One of David's alleged assailants, a 23-year-old man, was arrested and is being charged with attempted manslaughter.

Three Swedish-language articles on the incident and the subsequent arrest can be found at NVP.se:

* Article #1
* Article #2
* Article #3

Isberg, who also goes by the name DJ Dake, has had a successful DJ career with independent and electronic music, often influenced by the so-called "Madchester" scene. He has also DJed old-school heavy, thrash, speed and death metal from the '80s at Club Rocks in Stockholm; "Nuit Halloween" in Paris, France; and on various rock cruises on the Baltic Sea.

STONE SOUR Guitarist Says New Album 'Will Be Another Progression For The Band'

STONE SOUR has entered Sound Farm Studios just outside of their native Des Moines, Iowa with producer David Bottrill (TOOL, MUSE, STAIND) to begin recording its fourth album for a fall release via Roadrunner Records.

"This album will be another progression for the band," stated STONE SOUR guitarist Josh Rand. "Musically, we have always challenged one another to push things to our limits, and this record is no exception." Rand also shared some details about the album's lyrical and storytelling narrative, saying, "Lyrically, the album follows one character to that complex moment in his life, when he finally has to decide which path to take. It's a spiritual and moral power play for control of what this man will be for the rest of his life. Each song will tell the story from different sides of the character's personality, with the listener ultimately deciding how the story ends."

STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor previously stated about the band's follow-up to 2010's "Audio Secrecy", "I am looking forward to basically becoming a mad scientist in the studio and creating an album that no one wants us to make. I pretty much got permission to do whatever I wanted, which means that I'm essentially going against the grain in an age where people are fucking trying to simply put out singles. We're looking to do a double concept album and really make it destructive."

He added, "Picture [PINK FLOYD's] 'The Wall' meets [ALICE IN CHAINS'] 'Dirt' on steroids, and that will give you a taste of what I'm shooting for right now. The stuff we have right now is nuclear. It's pretty much going to go all the way. It's dark as shit. There's so much balls out rock on it as well as some good headpunchers and some really cool fucking dark pieces. I'm really excited about it."

Taylor — who is also the frontman for SLIPKNOT — said about the storyline for the next STONE SOUR record, "It's basically the story of a man who's trying to figure it out. He can't figure out if he's happier when he's miserable, or if he's miserable about not being happy. It's almost like a mid-life crisis in a way. He's young enough that he knows that there's still a lot of life to live, but he's old enough to realize that he can't be hung up on the romance of teenage depression and youthful aggression."

16. I'm The Man
17. I Am The Law

ANTHRAX's video for the song "The Devil You Know" can be seen below. The clip contains clips of all the band highlights of last year.

"The Devil You Know" comes off ANTHRAX's latest album, "Worship Music", which sold 28,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 12 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous studio CD, 2003's "We've Come For You All", opened with just under 10,000 units to debut at No. 122.

The CD cover artwork for "Worship Music" was handled by renowned comic book artist Alex Ross, who has worked with Marvel Comics and DC Comics and is known for his "Marvels", "Kingdom Come", and "Astro City" illustrations. Ross also did the original artwork for ANTHRAX's "We've Come For You All" and "Music Of Mass Destruction" albums.

"Worship Music" was produced by ANTHRAX, Rob Caggiano and Jay Ruston and recorded over a four-year period at studios in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Singer Joey Belladonna's return to the band prompted some of the songs originally recorded with previous singer Dan Nelson to be re-crafted with fresh lyrics or tweaked to better suit his overall vibe and energy. Some of the songs were completely replaced with brand-new songs and, of course, all have Belladonna's inimitable vocal stamp on them.

ANTHRAX recently completed the second leg of its U.S. tour with TESTAMENT and DEATH ANGEL.

SLIPKNOT's CHRIS FEHN Is A New Father

SLIPKNOT percussionist Chris Fehn and his wife welcomed a son on March 23. No further details are currently available.

SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor has been ambivalent about working on new SLIPKNOT material following the death in May 2010 of the group's bassist, Paul Gray, although percussionist Shawn Crahan and drummer Joey Jordison have been much more confident about the band recording again.

SLIPKNOT completed a European festival run last summer, which marked the band's first live gigs since Gray's passing.

SLIPKNOT's last record, "All Hope Is Gone", was released in 2008.

The band will take part in the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival this summer.

Former KORN Drummer Arrested For DUI

TMZ.com reports that original KORN drummer David Silveria was arrested for DUI in Huntington Beach, California this past weekend.

According to police records, the 39-year-old musician — who played with KORN for 13 years — was arrested on Sunday at 10:45 a.m.

Silveria recently joined forces with ANYONE members Riz Story and Miki Black in a brand new project called INFINIKA.

David left KORN in late 2006 in order to focus on family life along with running his steak house and sushi restaurant. In December 2009, David changed his steak house into the rock and sports-themed bar Silvera's Rockbar and was said to be no longer 50 percent owner of his sushi restaurant, having agreed to sell his half of ownership over to his ex-wife after a year-long court battle.

During a 2010 interview, KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer stated that David "has sold or gave away all his drums. I heard he doesn't even own a drumstick anymore."

SHINEDOWN Performs On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'; Video Available

SHINEDOWN performed two songs — "Bully" and "Unity" — on last night's (Monday, March 26) episode of ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (which actually aired this morning). You can now watch video footage of their appearance below.

SHINEDOWN's fourth studio album, titled "Amaryllis", arrives in stores on Tuesday (March 27), almost four years after the band issued its hugely successful 2008 album, "The Sound Of Madness". SHINEDOWN frontman Brent Smith told The Pulse Of Radio that even though the band really came together on that last effort, they didn't want to rest on their laurels while making "Amaryllis". "We're never really a band that's gonna ever be satisfied," he said. "We're never gonna be complacent with 'Oh, well, that'll do.' We're the band that's looking for the doors that everyone is afraid to find, because we like that. We like pushing the envelope constantly. It keeps us on our toes."

The first single from "Amaryllis", "Bully", has already topped the rock radio charts. The new single is called "Unity".

The million-selling "The Sound Of Madness" yielded six chart-topping singles like "Second Chance", "Devour", "If You Only Knew" and the title track. It debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, spending 120 weeks on the album chart.

The release of "Amaryllis" is being accompanied by an e-book called "For Your Sake: Inside The Making Of Amaryllis", a 75-page, "completely interactive" e-book that contains commentary, photos, video footage and other content exclusively chronicling the creation of the new record.

SHINEDOWN will lead the 2012 edition of the Avalanche Tour, which kicks off on Tuesday in Anaheim, California, with ADELITAS WAY, NEW MEDICINE and ART OF DYING also on the bill.

ALICE COOPER Drummer Recording New Music With Former BEAUTIFUL CREATURES Bandmate

ALICE COOPER drummer Glen Sobel — whose credits also include Vivian Campbell, SIXX: A.M., Paul Gilbert and IMPELLITTERI — recorded drum tracks for nine songs over the weekend for VILLAINS DE VAUDEVILLE, the new band project fronted by Kenny Kweens (SHAKE THE FAITH, L.A. GUNS).

Sobel and Kweens last collaborated in the Warner Bros. act BEAUTIFUL CREATURES whose lineup also included current GUNS N' ROSES and SIXX: A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba as well as Joe Leste (BANG TANGO) and Anthony Focx ("Wayne's World").

The tracks were recorded at Silver Cloud Studios in Redondo Beach, California by Joe Floyd (Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford) and are expected to be released this summer.

In related news, Sobel will once again be hitting the road with Alice Cooper, who is set to open for IRON MAIDEN's "Maiden England 2012" tour through July 21, with more dates to be announced soon.

KRAKOW Signs With DARK ESSENCE RECORDS

Norway's Dark Essence Records has announced the signing of Bergen-based post-metal crew KRAKOW. The band's second full-length album, "diin", was recorded with producer Iver Sandøy (TRINACRIA, MANNGARD) and will be released in September.

Commenting on the signing, Dark Essence label head Martin Kvam said: "KRAKOW have taken a huge step forward and upwards with this beast of an album, creating a unique sound and atmosphere that is entirely their own, and we are very proud to have them on our label."

Formed in 2005 by Frode Kilvik (bass, vocals), Kjartan Grønhaug (guitar) and René Misje (guitar, vocals), KRAKOW recorded their first three-track demo within a couple of months of being together and went on to release their "Dusty Roads" EP in 2007. The band's debut album, "Monolith", appeared in 2009. Initially drawing their inspiration from bands such as ISIS, NEUROSIS, IRON MAIDEN and MASTODON, KRAKOW have gone their own way, producing a sound that is at times dark, evocative and beautiful, at other times fast and aggressive or heavy and mesmerizing. It's with difficulty that anyone can pin a genre on KRAKOW but the names most mentioned when talking about the band are post-rock, metal and stoner rock.

KRAKOW's lineup was recently expanded to include drummer Ask Ty Arctander of KAMPFAR and MONDVOLLAND.

SAINT VITUS: New Song Available For Streaming

"Let Them Fall", a brand new song from doom metal progenitors SAINT VITUS, can be streamed at this location. The track comes off the band's new album, "Lillie: F-65", which will hit the stores in Europe on April 27 via Season Of Mist. Due to "manufacturing issues," the CD wil be released in North America in May.

"Lillie: F-65" track listing:

01. Let Them Fall
02. The Bleeding Ground
03. Vertigo
04. Blessed Night
05. The Waste of Time
06. Dependence
07. Withdrawal

SAINT VITUS recently filmed a video for "Let Them Fall". The clip was produced and directed by Michael Panduro of Siegfred Productions (CEPHALIC CARNAGE, ROTTEN SOUND, NO AND THE MAYBES) for Scion A/V and shot in Copenhagen, Denmark. Stills from the forthcoming clip can be seen at the official SAINT VITUS Facebook page.

SAINT VITUS last week released a seven-inch single featuring "Blessed Night", a track from "Lillie: F-65". The B-side is a live version of classic VITUS tune "Look Behind You", recorded in December 2010 at Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland.

The "Blessed Night" seven-inch single is limited to 1,000 hand-numbered copies. Pre-order it at this location.

Speaking to Terrorizer magazine, SAINT VITUS frontman Scott "Wino" Weinrich stated about the band's new album title, "Y'know the reason we called it 'Lillie: F-65'? It was a powerful downer back in our day and well, Dave [Chandler, guitar] really had a thing for his downers."

SAINT VITUS' current lineup features Chandler, drummer Henry Vasquez, bassist Mark Adams and Weinrich.

"Making this album was really a blast," said Chandler. "Being able to live in an environment where all we had to concentrate on was the new material, became very inspiring. And along with our new drummer, Henry Vasquez, and label, Season Of Mist, this record has given us a new opportunity to show everyone that we still have more to shove in your face."

When asked why he thinks SAINT VITUS' music continues to resonate, Wino said in an interview, "Because it comes from the gut. The music has that low tone and it hits you in those emotional places. I've always tried to make the lyrics just as interesting as the music. It's always been a little bit dark but I'm not drawn to the happy stuff. I like music that grabs you by the balls."

BIOHAZARD: 'Vengeance Is Mine' Video Released

New York hardcore/metal veterans BIOHAZARD have chosen Travis Campbell's video for "Vengeance Is Mine" as the grand-prize winner of their music video contest.

Using their Facebook page, the band challenged fans to create their own music video for a track off of their new album, "Reborn In Defiance". Submissions were uploaded to YouTube, and the band unanimously agreed on Campbell's entry as the first official video for "Reborn In Defiance".

Commented BIOHAZARD vocalist/guitarist Billy Graziadei: "Without the help of extra footage, Travis took some classic imagery from our previous videos and made it all work for 'Vengeance is Mine'... pure awesomeness! Be on the lookout for some great things to come from him!"

Added Campbell: "I have been a BIOHAZARD fan since the early '90s and have always been influenced by their videos and social commentary and wanted to show my respect and appreciation for a band that has helped me get through some rough times throughout the years. I started watching all the old BIO vids and got the idea of taking all the material and cutting it in a new way and adding in civil unrest footage from Occupy Wall Street, the civil rights era, and other events like Bloody Sunday. The hardest part was getting the synch right, having Billy from 1994 singing to a phrase in 2012 proved quite challenging! In the end, I am proud of the video and I am elated that BIOHAZARD likes it as well."

Travis will be rewarded with the "DFL Grand Prize," which guarantees him free Biohazard tickets and AAA passes for himself and a friend to all BIOHAZARD shows, for life. First runner-up was Randy Memoli with the track "Reborn" and second runner up was Kareem Girgis with "Come Alive", will each receive a ticket to all BIOHAZARD shows for life.

Added Graziadei: "We got a lot of great submissions that all rocked! Thank you to everyone who spent their time and talent on making their own great videos, DFL forever!"

"Reborn In Defiance" was released in Europe on January 20 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Not only is "Reborn In Defiance" BIOHAZARD's first original lineup album in 18 years, but it also marks the last album recorded by the band before the departure of bassist and co-vocalist Evan Seinfeld. The effort remains a testament to the four founding members (Billy Graziadei, Bobby Hambel, Evan Seinfeld and Danny Schuler) and their unique chemistry.

Having last recorded and toured as the fundamental lineup with the release of "State Of The World Address" back in 1994, BIOHAZARD reformed with all four original members back in 2008 to commemorate the band's 20th anniversary. They went back out on the road together over the next two years, during which time inspiration struck.

The legendary Toby Wright (ALICE IN CHAINS, METALLICA, SEVENDUST, KORN) was brought in to produce the 13-track "Reborn In Defiance", which was recorded in Los Angeles.

BIOHAZARD bassist/vocalist Evan Seinfeld left the band in June 2011 after the band's new CD was completed and was replaced by Scott Roberts, who played on the band's 2005 "Means To An End" album and has been part of the BIOHAZARD extended family since.

BIOHAZARD in January took part in the "Persistence Tour 2012" alongside SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, TERROR, WALLS OF JERICHO, LIONHEART and CRUSHING CASPARS.

The as-yet-untitled new CD will feature ten new songs and is tentatively scheduled for release in September.

In other news, KLONE recently released a three-track EP entitled "The Eye Of Needle", which can be downloaded for free at the band's official web site.

VAN HALEN Performs 'Jamie's Cryin'' For The Time Since 2008 (Video)

According to the Van Halen News Desk, VAN HALEN surprised the audience at its concert last night (Monday, March 26) at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennylvania when it played not one, but two songs that hadn't been played yet on the "A Different Kind Of Truth" tour.

The classic "Jamie's Cryin'" was played for the first time since the 2007-2008 tour, and the new song '"Blood And Fire" — taken from VAN HALEN's latest CD — also had its debut. (The band had previously only played it during tour rehearsals in Los Angeles).

Fan-filmed video footage can be seen below.

VAN HALEN's new album, "A Different Kind Of Truth", sold 187,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 2 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"A Different Kind Of Truth" is the band's first full-length offering with original singer David Lee Roth since "1984" was released in January 1984.

Roth exited the group in 1985, a year after its "1984" album was released. According to Billboard.com, "1984" spent five weeks at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 — VAN HALEN's highest charting set with Roth. (1996's "Best Of Volume 1" hits album, which included two new songs with Roth, debuted at No. 1 with 233,000 sold in its first week.)

VAN HALEN's other four other No. 1s were their four studio albums with Roth's replacement, Sammy Hagar: "5150" (1986), "OU812" (1988), "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (1991) and "Balance" (1995).

VAN HALEN's previous all-new album, 1998's "Van Halen III", debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard chart and was certified gold for sales of 500,000 copies, a disappointment compared to their previous platinum efforts.

BLACK SABBATH Guitarist Issues Update On His Cancer Batttle

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi, who is currently receiving treatment in England for the early stages of lymphoma, with which he was diagnosed late last year, has issued the following update:

"A little update on how it's all going:

"Well, I've had the last dose of chemotherapy, so hopefully my body will start to get back to normal soon. The steroids were the [worst]. I've now got three weeks of radiotherapy coming up which I'm told can be very tiring, so we'll see.

"A big thanks to [fellow SABBATH members] Ozzy [Osbourne] and Geezer [Butler] for coming over to England; it was a big incentive for me. We managed to work most days and have some great new tracks.

"And, importantly, thanks again for your kind messages. Hope to be seeing you soon."

Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes, a type of cell that forms part of the immune system.

BLACK SABBATH will play one U.S. date sometime this summer, according to a VH1 Radio Network interview with Sharon Osbourne, wife and manager of SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne. Sharon revealed, "They're gonna be doing one show in America this summer but I can't say yet because we can't announce it, the promoters have to, but they are doing one show in August here together." The news follows the cancellation of all SABBATH tour dates abroad except for a headlining slot at the U.K.'s Download Festival in June, due to Iommi's battle with lymphoma.

As for whether original Ward will participate in the U.S. show, Sharon said, "We don't know yet, we really don't know. It's up to Bill. The door is open for him to join us, so it's up to him."

Meanwhile, Ozzy, Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler are in London continuing to record their first album together in 33 years, although without Ward it is not the original SABBATH reunion announced last November.

Sharon said about the recording sessions, "It's going good. They're doing really well in the studio. Gosh, they must've written 15 new songs already and it's going great."

She also denied that she was responsible for Ward's current absence from the project, saying, "Everybody's got their own manager, so we have an independent group of people that have come in to manage the project, and I don't, and I get the blame because Bill doesn't want to play with the band; he doesn't like his deal and I get the blame. It's like, 'All right, I'm a big girl, I can take it.'"

Ward has been sitting out the sessions due to being offered what he called "an unsignable contract" in an open letter to SABBATH fans.

Ward posted an update on February 17 in which he said he "remains hopeful" for a positive outcome to the situation.

The rest of SABBATH's scheduled European summer gigs will be replaced by "Ozzy And Friends", at which the singer will be joined by Butler, former Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde and other special guests, including Slash on selected dates.

ONE-WAY MIRROR: 'Yes But No' Video Released

"Yes But No", the new video from ONE-WAY MIRROR — the French band featuring Guillaume Bideau (MNEMIC) and David and Franck Potvin (LYZANXIA, PHAZE I) — can be seen below. The song comes off the group's sophomore album, "Destructive By Nature", which will be released on April 16. The cover artwork was once again designed by plastic arts master Alain Tréhard at the Maria Hell Studio in La Rochelle, France. According to a press release, "Alain was inspired by the title of the album to create this unstructured masterpiece."

ONE-WAY MIRROR previously stated about the upcoming album, "Even though they composed these latest bombtracks in the similar vein of their first album, ONE-WAY MIRROR was able to nurture the fresh and perfectly controlled combination of violence and pure melodies with catchy components.

"This album is not unlike shrapnel as it will embed itself in your system upon explosion. Some songs will make the fans bang their heads while others will simply decimate them altogether.

"The band’s goal will remain playing the very music they want to listen to. No constraints, no limits or barriers and no rules apply. The musicians of ONE-WAY MIRROR agree that the motivation to compose and to record a metal album is pure pleasure before any other consideration.

"David Potvin and Guillaume Bideau are producing the album and . . . the sound is extremely powerful, natural and modern."

ONE-WAY MIRROR's self-titled debut album was released in June 2008 via Metal Blade Records.

ONE-WAY MIRROR is:

Guillaume Bideau (MNEMIC) - Vocals
David Potvin (LYZANXIA, PHAZE I) – Lead Guitar
Franck Potvin (LYZANXIA, PHAZE I) – Rhythm Guitar

GODSMACK To Release 'Live And Inspired' Album This Spring

GODSMACK will release a live album called "Live And Inspired" this spring. The effort will include 13 songs recorded at a show in Detroit, Michigan on the band's last tour and will be packaged with a bonus disc containing four cover songs.

With regards to the band's decision to use the Detroit concert as a basis for the concert album, GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna told Loudwire, "We were going to do a compilation with this song from Vegas, this song is from Chicago, this one is from Dallas, but, I don't know, the more we listened to the Detroit show, the more we kind of figured out that it was a really good show for us."

He added, "[Detroit is] always a great audience, as any rock band will tell you. Playing there is a special kind of fanbase that they have there, they live up to their reputation. They're a great rock audience, so that's where the record was recorded."

Erna recently declined to reveal to The Pulse Of Radio which songs the band covered for the bonus EP. "I will tell you this: we picked covers that everybody should know," he said. "They're very popular songs, and people are asking us, you know, why are we picking these songs? Well, because the record hasn't come out yet, and we've already sold probably 180 million copies. They're all hits (laughs)."

The EP and live album will coincide with GODSMACK's upcoming co-headlining tour with STAIND, which will kick off on April 13 in Augusta, Georgia. HALESTORM will be the supporting act for the entire road trip.

In addition to having the tour named by a fan through a contest, the bands have run a second competition in which fans have submitted designs for the tour poster. The designer of the winning poster received $500 and a prize pack.

Erna told The Pulse Of Radio he likes the idea of getting the fans involved as much as possible. "I like that we're including the fans into this and, you know, the whole thing has kind of been, you know, derived for the fans," he said. "Everything's been inspired by the fans so far. I'm actually excited too because we have this live record coming out, which is live and inspired by the fans kind of thing, and so this is actually a really good time for us to go out and do a tour like this, where we're incorporating fans into helping us create the name and create the posters and stuff like that."

GODSMACK's fifth album, "The Oracle", sold 117,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart.
