DANNY LILKER's NOKTURNAL HELLSTORM Releases Debut Album

NOKTURNAL HELLSTORM, the black metal project led by veteran bassist Danny Lilker (BRUTAL TRUTH, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, ANTHRAX), has released its debut album via United Underground (a division of Sevared Records). Produced and engineered by Lilker and mastered by Doug White at Watchmen Studios, the self-titled CD features 41 minutes of "ripping Scandinavian-inspired black metal," according to a press release.

"Nokturnal Hellstorm" track listing:

01. Naan Kadavul
02. Vile Entropy
03. Eternal Wasteland
04. The Penalty
05. Ancient Spirits Call
06. The Trial
07. Lacerated Dawn
08. Mesmerized By The Flames

The album is available now at Sevared.com.

When asked how NOKTURNAL HELLSTORM came together, Lilker told Decibel magazine, "In a way, it's similar to how BRUTAL TRUTH began way back in '90, with me working in my home studio. I wrote the music, programmed the drums and played all the instruments (no vocals, though). I asked Ron from CRUCIFIST to write and record vocals for this project, but before he got around to it, the band came to life when I realized that some of my friends from the Rochester melodic black/death band SARCOUS would be able to play this material. So, we took the three songs I had written — one of which is 'Naan Kadavul' — wrote another song together, and recorded what we had. That's the essence of how the band started, and as far as the impetus; well some may remember a black metal band I played in called HEMLOCK from New York City in the mid-to-late '90s. We broke up in 2001 and I relocated to Rochester a year after that. Although CRUCIFIST embodies elements of black metal, I wanted to play pure black metal again. I was quite inspired by the early '90s Scandinavian black metal scene, which re-lit the fire that had gone out when the original black metal bands from the '80s lost their direction or broke up. While a lot of people were simply drawn to the more sensational aspects of this scene and lost interest when all that died down, I still was drawn to the music, so NOKTURNAL HELLSTORM is, for me anyway, an homage to that era. We are not reinventing the wheel here."

IRON MAIDEN Drummer 'Not Sure' When There Will Be New Studio Album

David "Gus" Griesinger of BackstageAxxess.com conducted an interview with IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain at the 2012 NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, a massive music-products convention that took place January 19-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. You can now watch the chat below.

When asked if there are any plans for MAIDEN to record new music soon, Nicko said, "We've talked about going out [on tour] later in the year," he says. "As far as a new record, we're not sure yet. It's a work in progress always. . . But we will be going out sometime later in the year."

EMI has set a March 26 release date for "En Vivo!", the new concert Blu-Ray, two-DVD set and double soundtrack album from legendary British metallers IRON MAIDEN.

"En Vivo!" was filmed on April 10, 2011 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago during the "Round The World In 66 Days" leg of "The Final Frontier World Tour", and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans. With spectacular stage backdrops, dynamic musicianship and a literally jaw-dropping appearance by Eddie, this live show encapsulates to perfection the heart and soul of IRON MAIDEN 2011.

In addition to the Blu-Ray, the two-DVD will initially be available as a limited-edition double DVD in collectors' steel book case and double vinyl picture disc. As well as a traditional two-CD soundtrack album, "En Vivo!" will be available as a digital download CD soundtrack album and digital download video.

OCTOBER TIDE: New Lineup Announced

Sweden's OCTOBER TIDE has issued the following update:

"As you might have noticed, we have showed up with different members on many of the shows lately and the reason for that is FOUR newborn babies produced within one year. Since the effect of humping has a time consuming aftermath we hereby make the following statement.

"Vocalist Tobias Netzell and bassist Pierre Stam have decided to leave OCTOBER TIDE in favor of their families and other musical adventures. We want to thank the guys for the past years and wish them both all the best for the future!

"But rest assured, new fulltime members have already been found. Pierre has been replaced by Mattias Norrman (ex-KATATONIA) and Tobias' replacement will be no other than Alexander Högbom (VOLTURYON, SPASMODIC).

"We are thrilled about this new strong lineup and more than ready to focus on the future and things to come. Our primary goal and mission for now is to continue to write new breathtaking material for the next album which will most likely be recorded during the summer for a late 2012 release.

"We will keep you updated during the process!"

OCTOBER TIDE's current lineup:

Fredrik Norrman (KATATONIA, UNCANNY) - Guitar
Mattias Norrman (KATATONIA, DELLAMORTE) - Bass
Alexander Högbom (VOLTURYON, SPASMODIC) - Vocals
Robin Bergh (AMARAN, GOREMENT) - Drums
Emil Alstermark (MANDYLON) - Guitar

OCTOBER TIDE's latest album, "A Thin Shell", was released in North America in September 2010 via Candlelight Records. The band's first CD in ten years followed the 2009 reissue of its debut, "Rain Without End" (Candlelight).

Formed in 1995 by then-KATATONIA guitarist Norrman and KATATONIA/BLOODBATH vocalist Jonas Renkse, OCTOBER TIDE quickly made a mark with two albums recorded and released during the years 1997 and 1999 ("Rain Without End" and "Grey Dawn", respectively). Much of the band's music was written during a short break up of KATATONIA which later proved only temporary as the band would reform and continues today. OCTOBER TIDE would not perform live during this short period of activity and few interviews with the members were granted despite praise from both media and fans. The band, until reforming in late 2009, would maintain a cult status throughout the doom/metal community.

Pictured below is OCTOBER TIDE's 2010 - January 2012 lineup.

THE GATE Singer Quits

Vocalist Guido Krämer has left THE GATE, the German metal band featuring former RUNNING WILD (1982-1985) guitarist Gerald "Preacher" Warnecke.

Said Guido in a statement: "In recent months, there were constant disagreements. It was always about the songwriting and the external representation.

"I left the THE GATE in friendship and I wish them all the best in the future.

"I sincerely thank you all for your support!

"Of course I will continue to rock!

"Support THE GATE and my new projects!"

THE GATE is currently seeking a replacement singer.

The band's debut album, "Earth Cathedral", was released last summer via Rock It Up Records. The CD was recorded at Big Easy Studio near Hennef, Germany with producer Michael "Freio" Haas and featured a guest appearance by Preacher's son Korbinian Warnecke on 12-string guitar on the song "1000 Miles Away".

DREAM THEATER Singer Talks Next Solo Album

Vocalist James LaBrie of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER recently spoke to the Attention Deficit Delirium about the progress of the songwriting sessions for his next solo album. "Right now, Matt [Guillory], I and the other guys are writing," LaBrie said. "We're about halfway through. I would say our main focus is that we want to raise the bar as far as the actual song compositions, so with the arrangements we want to see if we can better ourselves first and foremost. As far as the elements that we want to include or implement into the music, a lot of those elements will be familiar because we want to keep it consistent. It has to make sense and have a sense of continuity from where we left off, but there are some things that we're talking about we want to bring in that will bring in some intriguing kind of sonics to give it its own identity."

He added, "In as much as I want to make it so that it is known that it is me, at the same time I want to be able to experiment. I don't want to feel that I'm constrained or have to sound in this vein of music or I'm going to lose my listeners. I think if anything they want to hear new things, and that's what we did coming from 'Elements Of Persuasion' to 'Static Impulse'. It was all about that. Hitting them over the head with 'Static Impulse', I don't think a lot of them were expecting there to be the thrash metal or screamo vocals on a James LaBrie album. It also has to be sincere and genuine. Matt and I over the years have appreciated that approach, and what I said when we were actually implementing the screamo vocals into the 'Static Impulse' album was, 'I don't want to look at it like it's a vocal, I'd rather view it as an instrument. This instrument has a distinctive sound. Where can we bring it in and have it really embellish the direction of the song or that certain section?' So that's what we did."

Read more from Attention Deficit Delirium.

James LaBrie's solo tour — which was scheduled to kick off on November 26, 2010 in Charlotte, North Carolina and end on December 20, 2010 in Houston, Texas — was canceled "due to some unfortunate, unforeseen difficulties with securing work visas" for a couple of the members of LaBrie's band.

"Static Impulse" sold around 1,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 14 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Static Impulse" was released on September 28, 2010 (one day earlier internationally) via InsideOut Music. The CD marked LaBrie's first solo effort in over five years.

Mixed and mastered by Jens Borgen (OPETH, KATATONIA), "Static Impulse" featured Guillory; Peter Wildoer from Swedish thrashers DARKANE on drums and screaming vocals; Marco Sfogli on guitar; and Ray Riendeau (HALFORD) on bass.

NACHTMYSTIUM Signs Worldwide Deal With CENTURY MEDIA

Century Media Records has announced the worldwide signing of NACHTMYSTIUM.

Very few bands today embrace their own individualism to ultimately craft something truly unique and genre defying. Enter the Chicago-based NACHTMYSTIUM, who embrace the true spirit of individuality and intolerance forming solely as an outlet to express the dark musical visions and summoning’s of those involved.

The band already sailed under the Century Media label banner in the USA since 2008 and released the classic albums "Assassins: Black Meddle Pt. 1" (2008) and "Addicts: Black Meddle Part II" (2010). Now, Century Media finally looks into a worldwide partnership with NACHTMYSTIUM and plans great things to come in 2012!

Originally formed in 1999 by Blake Judd, NACHTMYSTIUM started off as a raw, primitive black metal band with a very derivative Norsk black metal influence. They released a number of records on underground labels before they turned into a new musical direction and 'psychedelic'-era. Over the past years NACHTMYSTIUM created a genre all of its own and will develop this progress for 2012.

Founding member Blake Judd (vocals, guitars) comments on the new deal: "We are very excited and honoured to be working with Century Media, a label who over the years has showcased a ferocious dedication to extreme music. GRAVE, TIAMAT, SAMAEL and countless other bands active in the early '90s were some of the first bands to inspire us endlessly to create our own metal music. We anticipate a great working relationship and hope to embark on a joint ascension to metal superiority together!"

NACHTMYSTIUM is confirmed to play this year's popular Roadburn festival on April 13 in Tilburg, Holland, to be followed by a European tour with labelmates DARK FORTRESS starting April 17.

Former COAL CHAMBER Bassist's VERA MESMER: New Performance Footage Available

Video footage of VERA MESMER, the project featuring ex-COAL CHAMBER bassist Nadja Peulen and former REVEILLE guitarist Chris Turner (a.k.a. Christopher Mesmer), performing the song "Back From The Dead", on February 3 at the Viper Room in Hollywood, California can be seen below.

VERA MESMER spent the past few months working on its debut album, "Orphans & Outlaws", for a 2012 release.

According to Nadja, she is focusing completely on her new creative outlet and she isn't currently involved in any other bands. "I have no other projects in the works," she told AOL's Noisecreep. "I don't really believe in spreading yourself too thin," she said. "You just can't put your heart and commitment into two places at one time. As an artist, I like to immerse myself 100% in what I am doing. It becomes my existence and I am very passionate about it. It took me many years to find a band that I could believe in and this is the one for me."

The bassist added, "Working with Chris has been truly a transformation for me. I've learned and am still learning a lot from him songwriting and recording/production-wise. He's been pushing me musically and making me tap into unfamiliar territory such as singing. We have this strange musical connection and it's very easy to work together as we have the same taste, ideas, and thoughts. This sort of partnership doesn't come around often, as I have been looking for it for about eight years. He's brought me back from the dead, no pun intended, as it is the name of our first single and video. But the song is actually not about that."

When asked about the possibility of her involvement in a COAL CHAMBER reunion, Nadja said, "I am not sure if there will ever be a reunion [with me on bass]. [Editor's note: COAL CHAMBER has since announced a reunion for Australia's Soundwave Festival and South American tour, featuring new bassist Chela Rhea Harper.] There have been talks in the past, but at this time I am solely focused on VERA MESMER. I live and breathe this band 24/7 as we are an independent band with no label support carrying the weight of launching this all by ourselves. It's been nice to have the freedom to write, record, and produce our songs how we want them [and] have complete control [over] all artwork and presentation."

VERA MESMER's current lineup is completed by drummer Cody Root.

Milan, Italy-based female-fronted rock/metal act EXILIA will release its fifth studio album, "Decode", on March 30 via ZYX Music. EXILIA's last album, "My Own Army", was released in February 2009 via AFM Records. The CD was recorded at Principal Studios in Ottmarsbocholt (near Münster), Germany.

The group is also confirmed to perform at the South by Southwest Music Conference And Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.

"We are very proud to announce our signing with Artery Recordings/Razor & Tie," said FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS vocalist Dylan Richter. "We couldn't be more excited about joining the Artery family. We are in the studio right now with Tom Denney in the process of writing, and recording a brand new record. Keep your eyes peeled for studio updates, and videos. After the studio, we will be out with CHELSEA GRIN, ATTILA, CHUNK! NO CAPTAIN CHUNK, VANNA, and THE CRIMSON ARMADA on the Artery-exclusive Sick Tour."

"I was extremely excited when the opportunity came along to sign FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS," said Artery Recordings label manager Mike Milford. "We have followed the band's entire history and feel that they will integrate well into our family at Artery Recordings. The material I have heard so far for the new release will crush and definitely be ten steps above all previous material they have done."

Formed in 2003, FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS has released three full-length albums — "Changes" (2008), "Relentless" (2009) and "Back Burner" (2011) on Rise Records — and a self-titled EP (2003). The band has toured extensively, including taking part in national stints with UNEARTH, FOR TODAY, NORMA JEAN, CHELSEA GRIN and OF MICE & MEN, as well as European shows supporting A DAY TO REMEMBER, BURY YOUR DEAD and more. Revolver magazine said of FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS' music, "The band does manage to create material that will engage even the most jaded heavy-music listener" and Alter The Press said, "They do a great job at the divide between melody and angst, giving enough of each to both move and pump fists, just what every band that walks the line of hardcore needs, wishes for and much, much more."

FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS is Dylan Richter (vocals), Kalan Blehm (guitar), Jim Hocking (guitar) and Arvin Sarathy (drums). The band is managed by Dog of The Artery Foundation and represented for touring by Matt Andersen of The Pantheon Agency.

SLAYER Guitarist Says Songs For Next Album Are Sounding 'Really Refreshing And Energetic'

Guitarist Kerry King of California thrash metal legends SLAYER recently spoke to U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's next album, which they hope to begin recording within the next few weeks.

"Currently, we're taking a break, but I am very excited by the way it's all turning out so far," King said. "I've worked up three songs with Dave [Lombardo, drums], and they're sounding really refreshing and energetic. I'm certain that I'll have three more ready to go when we return to action. And then there's the stuff that Jeff [Hanneman, guitar] will also bring to the table."

He added, "One thing I can tell you is that the songs are shaping up in the classic SLAYER style. You won't be hearing us doing acoustic stuff. [laughs]"

Kerry is hoping that Greg Fidelman, who co-produced 2009's "World Painted Blood" with Rick Rubin, will be at the helm for the new album. "That's the idea, anyway," Kerry said. "But it all depends on his availability. . . I don't think we'll spend long in the studio this time, either. We're gonna do it old-school style and get things done fast. In fact, we are already ahead of schedule. The album will be ready for a summer release. But whether it's put out at that time is down to the record label [American]. They might have other plans. But we want it with the fans during the summer."

King also spoke about Hanneman's current state of health. Jeff in January 2011 contracted necrotizing fasciitis, likely caused by a spider bite, and has been undergoing surgeries, skin grafts and intense rehab since. Not only did this effectively put him out of action for the whole year, it came close to killing him, Thankfully, he's making a good recovery.

"Yeah, we could go onstage right now with him and do 'Mandatory Suicide'," Kerry said. "If that was the only song in our set, Jeff would be fine. But he's slowly getting back to full fitness and by the time we're ready to tour, he'll be right back onstage with us."

He added, "We always said we'd never entertain the idea of doing an album without [Jeff]. But there he is, getting those riffs ready!"

SLAYER will perform its classic 1986 album "Reign In Blood" in its entirety at All Tomorrow's Parties' second U.K. "I'll Be Your Mirror" event, which is scheduled to take place n the weekend of May 25-27 at Alexandra Palace, London, England. A strange move, considering they've done this several times before.

"The organizers asked us to do it! If it were left up to me, then I'd have turned it down, simply because it's been done, so why repeat it?" King said. "But it's such a classic album that people always ask us to do it."

SLAYER's latest album, "World Painted Blood", sold 41,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 12 on The Billboard 200 chart.

ADAM LAMBERT Says That His QUEEN Comments Were Taken 'Out Of Context'

"American Idol" singer Adam Lambert says that his comments were taken out of context when he was quoted as saying that he will join the legendary British rock band QUEEN for a tour this summer.

Lambert, who previously performed with QUEEN at the MTV European Music Awards last November, told U.K.'s Daily Star that he had "no intention" of trying to replace the group's original frontman Freddie Mercury.

"The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some fucking great songs. It's to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of," he said.

He added, "After the EMAs, I heard faint little slithers of backlash from people saying, 'You can't replace Freddie Mercury.' But I already knew that. There's no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That's impossible. The way I'm choosing to view it is that it's a great honor and one I'm in no way going to shirk."

After Lambert's interview was published on the Daily Star web site on Friday, the singer took to Twitter to clarify his comments. "Them clever reporters taking my quotes outta context ... I haven't confirmed any guest appearances. I was talking about the EMAs," he tweeted. "That being said, I'm truly flattered by your jump to such glorious conclusions."

QUEEN drummer Roger Taylor confirmed to Billboard late last year that he and guitarist Brian May were in talks to hit the road with Lambert. After going public with the fact that QUEEN is essentially retired as an active touring unit, Taylor said, "[Lambert] has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great. We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but we're talking about live dates. It could be very exciting."

1991's "Innuendo" was the last album of new music QUEEN released during Freddie Mercury's lifetime. Mercury died of AIDS on November 24, 1991 at age 45.

In 1995, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon overdubbed Mercury's final piano and vocal recordings to create the band's 15th — and final-four man QUEEN album — "Made In Heaven".

Deacon officially retired from music in 1997 — although he is still a voting member and quarter partner in QUEEN.

In 2008, Brian May and Roger Taylor, who had been touring with Paul Rodgers as QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS, released the chart bomb, "The Cosmos Rocks", before calling it a day as a trio and a recording entity — despite a string of globally sold-out concerts.

BILL WARD Is 'Moved And Overwhelmed' By Messages Of Support From BLACK SABBATH Fans

BLACK SABBATH drummer Bill Ward has thanked the band's fans for their support after he announced that he will not be able to participate in the recording of the reunited group's new album or perform with them on tour unless he is presented with what he described as a "fair agreement" and a "signable contract" that financially reflects his contributions to SABBATH's history and his standing as a founding member of the band.

BLACK SABBATH members Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Geeer Butler vowed to continue recording their new album without Ward, saying in a statement that they "were saddened to hear via Facebook that Bill declined publicly to participate in our current BLACK SABBATH plans... We have no choice but to continue recording without him although our door is always open... We are still in the U.K. with Tony. Writing and recording the new album and on a roll... See you at Download!!!"

In a statement posted on his official web site earlier today, Ward said, "I just wanted to humbly thank you all. Your support from across the world has given me further strength and hope for a positive resolve. I have been moved and overwhelmed by the thousands of messages. I love you all."

BLACK SABBATH toured without Ward when the original lineup reformed in 1997, but he rejoined the group the following year. In 2004 a contract dispute nearly caused him to not participate on that summer's Ozzfest tour, but the matter was eventually resolved and the trek went ahead as scheduled.

Earlier this week, Ward issued a statement in which he said in part, "At this time, I would love nothing more than to be able to proceed with the BLACK SABBATH album and tour. However, I am unable to continue unless a 'signable' contract is drawn up; a contract that reflects some dignity and respect toward me as an original member of the band."

Ward added that he worked last year in "good faith" with fellow original members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, including rehearsals and a November press conference in Los Angeles. But then, he wrote, "Several days ago, after nearly a year of trying to negotiate, another 'unsignable' contract was handed to me."

The drummer, who played on 10 of SABBATH's first 11 studio albums, emphasized, "Although this has put me in some kind of holding pattern, I am packed and ready to leave the U.S. for England. More importantly, I definitely want to play on the album, and I definitely want to tour with BLACK SABBATH."

The recording sessions for the original band's first new album in 33 years were recently moved to London so that Iommi, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, could be close to his doctors.

Ward wrote that he's "spent every day" getting ready to head to England, but added, "My guess is . . . I will know nothing of what's happening unless I sign 'the unsignable contract.'"

He also wrote, "The place I'm in feels lousy and lonely because as much as I want to play and participate, I also have to stand for something and not sign on. If I sign 'as is,' I stand to lose my rights, dignity and respectability as a rock musician."

Ward addressed the possibility of his being replaced, saying, "I hope you will not hold me responsible for the failure of an original BLACK SABBATH lineup as promoted . . . It would be a sad day in rock if this current situation fell to the desires of a few."

SABBATH is scheduled to release its new album later this year and is confirmed to play the U.K.'s Download festival in June. All other tour plans, however, are up in the air pending Iommi's ability to overcome his illness.

METALLICA's KIRK HAMMETT Joins EXODUS On Stage At 'Bonded By Baloff' Concert; Video Available

METALLICA/ex-EXODUS guitarist Kirk Hammett, former EXODUS axeman Rick Hunolt and original EXODUS bassist Jeff Andrews all joined the current lineup of EXODUS on stage last night (Saturday, February 4) at a special concert to mark the 10-year anniversary of former EXODUS singer Paul Baloff's passing. Dubbed "Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance", the event took place at the Oakland Metro Operahouse and featured additional performances by POSSESSED, FORBIDDEN and HEATHEN, among others.

Fan-filmed video footage of EXODUS performing their early demo classics "Whipping Queen" and "Impaler" during last night's concert — with guest appearances by Hammett, Hunolt and Andrews — can be seen below.

It was a decade ago — on January 31, 2002 — that Paul Baloff suffered a major stroke and was brought to Highland General Hospital in Northern California, where he remained in a coma until he was declared brain dead. On February 2, 2002, his doctors shut off his life support, leaving him to die in his sleep. He had no previous known health problems, and the stroke was a complete surprise to everyone around him.

Regarding EXODUS' decision to stage this concert, the band's guitarist Gary Holt said, "With February 2nd being the 10-year anniversary of Paul's passing, the band knew it was high time we do something special to remember the legend of Paul Baloff, so we decided to put together a show the Bay Area will not soon forget. We've pulled some of the Bay's finest for this, bands who knew and shared many a stage and drink with Pavel. There are some nice surprises in store as well! It will be ten years and two days since the thrash world lost one of its greatest frontmen ever, and we will always make sure his memory lives on and is never forgotten. Long live The Destroyer!"

Added FORBIDDEN guitarist and founding member Craig Locicero: "Everyone in FORBIDDEN is honored to have been asked by Gary and EXODUS to play this show marking the 10th anniversary of Paul Baloff's crazy fucking life! I witnessed his insanity first-hand at the Mabouhay Gardens and Ruthie's Inn. As EXODUS got bigger, Paul got crazier — in a good way. It was genius at work. He was the mold that all thrash frontmen cut themselves from, but he was also a pretty damn sweet guy. Always kind to those he liked, he'd be in the front row at FORBIDDEN gigs screaming things like 'Why does it have to be so heavy?' and my favorite, 'Heavier than time!' I'm laughing just typing this!

"At his memorial, I saw people I hadn't seen in years. So much love, so many laughs. It made me happy in some strange way just to see that kind of respect displayed for Paul. We all really loved him. Luckily his legend has returned with a vengeance… and hey, Paul, you did it: You've become heavier than time!"

"Let There Be Blood", the controversial re-recording of EXODUS' classic 1985 debut album, "Bonded by Blood", was issued in October 2008 through Zaentz Records.

Regarding the band's decision to re-record "Bonded By Blood", Holt previously said: "It is our way of paying homage to Paul Baloff by showing how relevant these songs we had written together still are. We aren't trying to replace the original; that's impossible anyway. We are just giving these songs the benefit of modern production. It's something we talked about before Paul's death and it's always been important to us to do. We were super-excited about entering the studio once again to record these classics." Current EXODUS vocalist Rob Dukes added, "Paul was rad, totally original. He was not like [METALLICA's James] Hetfield or [SLAYER's Tom] Araya. I think at times he wanted to be, but he was simply himself. He had a really cool way of going up with his voice in the weirdest spots. I, myself, find it cool and original."

ANTHRAX Without CHARLIE BENANTE, FRANK BELLO; Video Available

Fan-filmed video footage of ANTHRAX's February 2 concert at The Taberncale in Atlanta, Georgia can be seen below. The performance was notable because the band's lineup for the show included stand-in musicians Joey Vera (ARMORED SAINT, FATES WARNING) and Gene Hoglan (TESTAMENT, FEAR FACTORY, DETHKLOK) filling in for bassist Frank Bello and drummer Charlie Benante, respectively.

As previously reported, Benante and Bello (who is Charlie's nephew) missed several shows on ANTHRAX's current North American tour in order to spend time with Charlie's mother, who was terminally ill. Today, Benante informed fans via his official web site that his mother passed away.

"We didn't want to cancel any of the concerts, [as] we didn't want to let anyone down," ANTHRAX guitarist Rob Caggiano previously said. "So we decided to figure out a way to keep the show on the road.

ANTHRAX last month kicked off the second leg of its U.S. tour with TESTAMENT and DEATH ANGEL.

Vera temporarily replaced Bello in ANTHRAX from April 2004 to March 2005 before Frank returned to the group as part of the reunion of ANTHRAX's classic lineup, also featuring singer Joey Belladonna and guitarist Dan Spitz. Vera also filled in for Bello during ANTHRAX's appearance at the Heavy MTL festival in June 2008 when Bello wasn't able to make the gig due a "family obligation."

JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE: Performance, Signing-Session Footage From NAMM

JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE took part in a short performance and signing session t the 2012 NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, a massive music-products convention that was held January 19-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. You can now watch their appearance below.

JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE made its live debut on January 14 at the Rock-n-Roll GangStar Apparel Pre-NAMM Festival & Jam at Delzano's in Redondo Beach. Joining singer Jack Russell for the performance were Derrick Pontier, (former drummer for GREAT WHITE), Dario Seixas (former bassist for FIREHOUSE and the Stephen Pearcy band), Robby Lochner (former guitarist for Rob Halford's band and Cherie Currie) and Evan Haymond (guitar).

JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE set included GREAT WHITE classics as well as cover versions of PINK FLOYD's "Wish You Were Here" and RINGO STARR's "It Don't Come Easy".

JACK RUSSELL'S GREAT WHITE will kick off a "worldwide" tour on March 1 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The current touring lineup of GREAT WHITE — Mark Kendall (lead guitar), Scott Snyder (bass), Audie Desbrow (drums), Michael Lardie (guitar, keyboards) and Terry Ilous (lead vocals) — issued a statement last month in which they claimed that Russell's "frail body" and "drug abuse" have prohibited him from taking part in the band's performances for the past year. They additionally revealed that Jack had undergone "five major surgeries" after his drug abuse got so bad that "his body began to shut down and ultimately resulted in colostomy surgery from a perforated bowel." In the statement, GREAT WHITE also insisted that the singer "does not have the right to start his own GREAT WHITE or use the name without our names in the lineup" and they vowed to "litigate any promoter that books 'Jack Russell's GREAT WHITE' or uses any logo featuring the name GREAT WHITE."

In an interview with Metal Sludge, Russell stated about his estranged bandmates, "I don't care what they say. The proof is in the pudding. Everyone is going to see that Jack is back, that it's all rumors. I mean, do people really give a shit if I'm sober or not? They can come, they'll see I look great, I sound great. I want everyone to come out and see. This January 14 thing is just a jam, and only four-fifths of the band is going to be there because [guitarist] Matt Johnson is going to be in Texas, but starting in February, I'm doing a a tour."

When asked about the rumors of his poor health, Jack said, "I am fine. I just bought a 45-foot boat, and I'm living on it in Redondo Beach, my old stomping ground when GREAT WHITE was its most successful. It's nice to see my favorite sushi restaurant and favorite Italian restaurant are still around. I go fishing three times a week, and I'm in great shape. All these rumors from the other camp about me being not healthy and everyone being afraid I am going to die, it's all B.S. Those guys haven't talked to me in months. They haven't talked to me, so come on, give me a break. Who even cares? I can still sing great. End of story."

Regarding the fact that the GREAT WHITE guys and their manager have a totally different opinion on whether Jack is fit to keep going, the singer said, "They're just trying to make me look bad. They feel scared and threatened, and they should be. They don't own the name. This is my band. Everyone knows this is my band. I started in 1978 and changed the name in 1982. The others, they came in because I was the one who invited them. It was cool for a while before all this crap started. They don't own the name, they don't own the logo. [GREAT WHITE's manager] Obi Steinman sues everyone in the world, but I'm lucid, I'm clear, and I'm sober. Just because I had a rough year and a half does not mean that I gave up on my band. My name has always been synonymous with GREAT WHITE. I came up with the name, and I am entitled to use it. The other GREAT WHITE, with Terry Illous singing my songs and my lyrics, now he's sticking his name into this, covering my tunes. Write your own stuff, dude."

Guitarist BOBBY SCHNECK Will Not Be Touring With SLASH

Rhythm guitarist Bobby Schneck will not be joining Slash on tour this year when the VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES axeman hits the road in support of his upcoming sophomore solo album. A replacement player has not yet been announced.

Slash late last year re-entered Barefoot Recording in Hollywood, California with producer Eric Valentine (QUEENS OF STONE AGE, THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS) to resume recording Slash's upcoming solo album for a tentative spring release. Joining Slash in the studio were the other members of his touring band of the last couple of years: vocalist Myles Kennedy (ALTER BRIDGE), bassist Todd Kerns (SIN CITY SINNERS, formerly of AGE OF ELECTRIC), and drummer Brent Fitz (formerly of THEORY OF A DEADMAN).

In a 2011 interview, Slash stated about the musicians in his band, "I was really fortunate. When I'd done the [first solo] record, I thought, 'I've gotta tour on this.' And I had to figure how I was gonna actually pull that off. And I set about auditioning musicians in L.A. and I just happened to meet Brent Fitz, who I'd never played before and who is not from Los Angeles; he was one of the guys I auditioned and he was great. And then he introduced me to Todd Kerns, who fit in perfectly. And it turned out to be a great band from the start — definitely worth going in and making a record with."
