NIGHTWISH Singer Feeling \'Stronger\' After Suffering Broken Ribs In Fall
 The vocal recording sessions for the new NIGHTWISH album, "Imaginarium", were recently postponed until April 4 in order to allow the band's singer, Anette Olzon, a longer recovery period after she suffered broken ribs in a fall. In a new posting on her blog, she states about her condition, "Well, it still hurts and I do need to take painkillers. Can't do some things and lying on the side is still too painful, even if I try every night since my left side is my favorite sleeping side... I am up, I am walking, I can go out for shorter walks, but the pain gets to me after doing that. Still, it's much better and I have learned that broken ribs can take a long time to really heal and that it might be hard to do some things for a long time. I have felt more pain now after my bad cold since the sneezing and coughing 'pulled' it up again so that was a bit bad timing, but I do feel that singing next week will work really good with some painkillers and I am so happy to finally go over to the studio with [NIGHTWISH mainman/keyboardist] Tuomas [Holopainen]and do some magic! So I'm stronger and I am happy things are moving in the right direction again."
Holed up in the studio for the better part of this spring, NIGHTWISH is not only putting finishing touches to its new album, "Imaginarium", but also planning a movie of the same name. If all goes well, the CD will be released in early 2012, to be followed by the movie at some point further down the line. The first single off the album as well as the trailer for the film should arrive well before the end of 2011.
For the movie, NIGHTWISH has teamed up with director Stober Harju's production team and Solar Films.

THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT\'s \'Deconstruction\', \'Ghost\' Albums Get Release Date
 Canadian musician/producer Devin Townsend (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, STEVE VAI, LAMB OF GOD, DARKEST HOUR, GWAR) will release "Deconstruction" and "Ghost" — the third and fourth in a series of albums to be made available under THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT moniker — in Europe on June 20 via InsideOut Music.
"Deconstruction" and "Ghost" will complete his tetralogy album concept — a great journey through Devin's different states of musical moods — which he started in 2009 with the albums "Addicted" (2009) and "Ki" (2009).
Even though "Ghost" is the fourth album to be made available under THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT moniker, Devin recorded it third, because "Deconstruction" (the third album) was "a nightmare technically and I wanted to make something lovely before diving into that," Devin previously said.
According to Devin, "'Ghost' is the mellowest (by far) and prettiest record I've done so far" with a "very wonderful vibe."
Townsend tapped Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, PARADISE LOST, BLOODBATH) to mix "Deconstruction". The sessions took place late last month at Fascination Street studio in Örebro, Sweden. The CD will feature a guest appearance by former EMPEROR frontman Ihsahn (real name: Vegard Sverre Tveitan) as well as two drummers — Ryan Van Poederooyen (TERROR SYNDROME, THE DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND) for the "crushing stuff," and Dirk Verbeuren (SOILWORK, SCARVE, ABORTED) for the "inhuman stuff."

NAPALM DEATH, Ex-BENEDICTION Members Join Forces In ABSOLUTE POWER
 ABSOLUTE POWER, the U.K.-based classic metal band featuring former/current members of NAPALM DEATH and BENEDICTION as well as producers behind albums for such acts as PARADISE LOST, EVILE and CROWBAR, will release its long-awaited, self-titled album on May 9. The NWOBHM-inspired, fist-pumping warriors have been sitting on the finished product for some time, but are now ready to unleash the solos, the riffs... and the power.

LEAVES\' EYES: New Song Available For Streaming
 "Velvet Heart", a new song from LEAVES' EYES — the German/Norwegian band formed by ex-THEATRE OF TRAGEDY singer Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull and members of ATROCITY — is available for streaming on the group's Facebook page. The track comes off LEAVES' EYES' new album, "Meredead", which will be released on April 22 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland via Napalm Records. The effort will be available exclusively as limited-edition mediabook CD, including bonus track and bonus DVD "Live At The Metal Female Voices Fest", strictly limited-edition deluxe box set and regular jewel case.

AUTOPSY: \'Macabre Eternal\' Cover Artwork Unveiled
 "Macabre Eternal", the first full-length album from the legendary San Francisco Bay Area gore grind act AUTOPSY since 1995's "Shitfun", will be released on May 31 via Peaceville Records. A special vinyl edition of the effort will precede the digital versions exclusively through the Peaceville web store on May 16.
"Macabre Eternal" was recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California and includes AUTOPSY's first 10-plus minute song "Sadistic Gratification". "It's 11 minutes and 33 seconds of pure fucking sickness," guitarist Eric Cutler told Invisible Oranges.
"Our fans can expect no less than our best, the best we have to offer," Cutler added. "If you like AUTOPSY, you will think this is the best."

AMON AMARTH: Entire New Album Available For Streaming
 "Surtur Rising", the eighth studio album from Swedish melodic death metal tyrants AMON AMARTH, is available for streaming in its entirety at Bloody-Disgusting.com. Named in tribute to Surtur, leader of the fire giants of Muspelheim ("flame land") and the oldest being in the nine worlds of Norse mythology, the record, which is due in North America on March 29 via Metal Blade Records, features 10 tracks of sword-wielding, fist-pumping, hyper climactic battle anthems. RUSH\'s \'Beyond The Lighted Stage\' Wins JUNO Award For \'Music DVD Of The Year\'
 The documentary about legendary Canadian trio RUSH, called "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage", was honored in the "Music DVD Of The Year" category at this year's Juno gala dinner and award ceremony held tonight (Saturday, March 26) in Toronto. This marks the second consecutive win in this Juno category for filmmakers Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen of Banger Films, who received the same award last year for "Iron Maiden: Flight 666".
The two-disc DVD release of "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage" was certified double platinum last fall by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments in excess of 100,000 copies. (Note: Due to the fact that the set consists of two discs, it was eligible for platinum certification after shipping 50,000 copies; platinum certification for a single-disc release is 100,000 copies.)
Guitarist Alex Lifeson told The Pulse of Radio that it wasn't until he saw the film himself that he thought there was actually an interesting story to tell about the band. "It's just kind of a, you know, a success story — kids from the suburbs have a dream and they live their dream," he said. "And everybody can relate to that. There's been quite a dynamic in the band, a lot of stuff has happened, so there was a story to tell there. And I don't think I really realized there was one until we actually saw a rough cut and how they pieced it all together and the chronology and the ebbs and flows of the story."
RUSH bassist Geddy Lee told RollingStone.com that the band was initially hesitant when approached by Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen about making a documentary, saying, "We thought, 'How foolish are these guys?' We're just this dull band. I remember [drummer] Neil [Peart] asked them rather pointedly, 'What's your angle? What's the story you want to tell?' They said, 'Well, to be honest, we don't know.' We liked that and said, 'Good luck, let you know what you want us to do.'"

FREEDOM CALL To Release \'Live In Hellvetia\' In June
 Having sold over 35,000 copies of its debut, "Stairway To Fairyland", FREEDOM CALL's tour with SAXON, ANGRA and EDGUY turned into a triumphal march. The tour culminated with memorable shows with SAVATAGE and SKEW SISKIN in August 1999 as part of the Popkomm music fair in Cologne. The band played almost fifty shows in 2000 and proved their worth at various festivals, like the Wacken Open Air 1999 and 2000. Their second release, "Crystal Empire", even surpassed the debut's success. The sales figures increased, and even before the album was available, FREEDOM CALL were invited to the Metafest in Bologna, Italy, the Metal Dayz in Switzerland and delivered an unforgettable performance at the STRATOVARIUS/RHAPSODY show in Bourges, France.
Following the release of "Crystal Empire", FREEDOM CALL embarked on a 63-day European tour with HAMMERFALL and VIRGIN STEELE that took them through Scandinavia, Holland, Germany, Austria, Hungry, France and Spain, among other countries.
June 2002 saw the arrival of the third FREEDOM CALL recording, "Eternity", followed by an extensive tour with BLIND GUARDIAN. During that time period they recorded "Live Invasion". At the same time, FREEDOM CALL established themselves as a headlining act in their own right and they were celebrated as the stars of the Wacken Road Show 2004 night after night.
"The Circle Of Life" saw the integration of more modern and unusual arrangements into the band's sound, extending the musicians' sonic range - an element which their album, "Dimensions", also benefits from. With both albums they toured extensively with bands like RAGE and DRAGONFORCE.
In 2010 the new album "Legend of the Shadowking" saw the light of day. The album is based on the story of King Ludwig II and charted in Sweden and Finland. In February/March 2010 FREEDOM CALL embarked on a huge European tour together with GAMMA RAY and in May 2010 with AXEL RUDI PELL. Afterwards they played over 40 gigs on festivals and as a headliner. After nearly 15 years of existence and approximately 200,000 albums sold, it was time for the first DVD which was shot by the end of 2010 in Pratteln, Switzerland.
Both the CD and DVD packages include the entire live show from Pratteln, Switzerland. The second disc of the DVD set includes interviews, a "A Day In The Life Of Freedom Call" featurette and much more. The limited edition 2 CD/2 DVD deluxe package contains both CDs, both DVDs and a deluxe A1 Poster.

THE AGONIST Singer Says \'Bang Your Own Head, Not A Seal\'s\'
 Alissa White-Gluz — known as the powerful voice of the Montreal, Quebec, Canada-based metal band THE AGONIST — has joined with peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization, for a brand-new ad opposing Canada's annual seal slaughter. The ad shows White-Gluz above a photo of a baby seal who is about to be clubbed and reads, "Bang Your Own Head, Not a Seal's."
"The seal hunt is something I'm … so ashamed to even be remotely associated with," says the Montréal-born vocalist in an exclusive interview with peta2. "I'm shocked that it's still going on and still encouraged by the government."
During the slaughter, tens of thousands of baby seals have their heads bashed in or are shot. Sealers hook baby seals in the eyes, cheeks, or mouth and drag them across the ice, often while the animals are still conscious. Of the approximately 300,000 harp seals who were expected to be killed last year, more than three-fourths were spared, in part because the price of seal fur has plummeted as the international outrage against the seal slaughter has risen. The European Union and the U.S. have banned seal products, and many world leaders — including Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin — have spoken out against the massacre.
White-Gluz, a vegan, also speaks out against the "greenwashing" of the fur industry and encourages everyone to buy only cruelty-free personal-care products. She joins a growing list of artists — including THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, ANIMAL COLLECTIVE, THE SOUNDS, JOEL GIBB, and PEACHES—who have joined with peta2 to speak out against the seal slaughter.

SARAH JEZEBEL DEVA Completes Work On New Solo Album
 British vocalist Sarah Jezebel Deva — who has toured and/or recorded with CRADLE OF FILTH, THERION, MORTIIS and ANGTORIA — has completed work on her new solo CD, "The Corruption Of Mercy". She states, "[I am] so happy with it and does piss over the last album!"
Sarah Jezebel Deva's solo debut, "A Sign Of Sublime", was released in February 2010 through Rising Records. The drums on the CD were laid down by Max Blunos, formerly of the U.K. death metal outfit TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED. Other guest musicians that appear on the album include Martin Powell (CRADLE OF FILTH, ANATHEMA, MY DYING BRIDE) and Dave Pybus (CRADLE OF FILTH). The CD was mixed and mastered at Escape Route by Dan Abela.

NEMESEA Signs With NAPALM RECORDS
 Dutch female-fronted gothic rock outfit NEMESEA has inked a deal with Napalm Records. The band's third album will be released in the summer.
Commented the group: "Teaming up with Napalm Records is something we have been looking forward to for quite some time now.

EXMORTUS Begins Recording New Album
 Since the release of the band's debut album, "In Hatred's Flame", in July 2008, EXMORTUS has kept busy touring and gigging relentlessly with such acts as Heavy Artillery labelmates VEKTOR and L.A. black thrashers WITCHAVEN. After suffering a temporary setback with the departure of frontman Balmore during early 2010, EXMORTUS rebounded quickly with lead guitar shredder Conan taking over on vocals and the addition of new guitarist Sean Redline. The short break from their busy live schedule also provided the band with the time needed to complete the material for its upcoming sophomore album. Armed to the teeth with its most aggressive material to date, the death-thrash quartet entered Black Static Studio in Los Angeles to begin recording "Beyond The Fall Of Time", tentatively scheduled for release during late summer 2011 on Heavy Artillery Records.
Commented drummer Mario Moreno: "We’ve been at Black Static Studios for nine days now and we feel that we couldn’t have picked a better studio to capture the new material.
"The lineup change during early 2010 set our original recording plans back by several months so we’re excited to finally be recording this album.
"With the new line-up of Conan on vocals and the addition of Sean Redline on second guitar the band is at its strongest ever.
"We’re really happy with the new material and the heavier sound. Sean has contributed a lot of great ideas to the album overall and Conan will finally get to showcase his vocals."

SUBSIGNAL Begins Recording Second Album
 SUBSIGNAL, the new German band featuring former SIEGES EVEN members Arno Menses (vocals) and Markus Steffen (guitar), has entered the studio to begin recording its second album, "Touchstones", for a September release via ZYX Music. According to the group, the 70-minute is being produced by guitarist Markus Steffen and vocalist Arno Menses and is being recorded in "different studios during the next months. Guitars and bass will be done in Munich, recorded by Kalle Wallner, known for his work with RPWL and BLIND EGO. Drums will be recorded in Seeheim/Jugenheim by good old Kristian Kohlmannslehner who also co-produced SUBSIGNAL's first album, 'Beautiful & Monstrous'. Vocals will be recorded somewhere in the north of Germany. Mixing and mastering by Kristian Kohlmannslehner at Kohlekeller Studios. Some add-ons, like an oboe or a string trio, have already been recorded, respectively will be recorded the next weeks. Along with the whole keyboard production of the album, all these things will be recorded by David Bertok at his own Everlight Studio nearby Munich."

 DEFENDER, the newly formed Los Angeles-based heavy metal band featuring founding CELLADOR members Bill Hudson (guitar) and Mikey Gremio (vocals) alongside ZODIAC MINDWARP/ex-REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE drummer Bruno Agra, has made a new song, "WWIII", available for streaming in the YouTube clip below.
Commented Hudson: "This song is very meaningful to me. It was my first ever attempt at lyrics, although I couldn't have done it without partnering up with Mikey [Gremio, vocals]. I started writing this after a talking with a friend who was about to go be deployed to Iraq. It's pretty intense. I am an absolute supporter of the troops. I am also very much against the war. I'd much rather NOT have troops deployed… but since they're there, they have my full support and I tried to show that with this song!"

AEROSMITH STEVIE WONDER Sings \'Happy Birthday\' To STEVEN TYLER On \'American Idol\'
 Stevie Wonder took the stage during last night's episode of "American Idol" to sing a special "Happy Birthday" tribute to AEROSMITH frontman and "Idol" judge Steven Tyler. All the contestants danced on stage with Stevie and fellow judges Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson brought Steven up on stage for the occasion.
Tyler, who was presented with a portrait and a huge birthday cake, turns 63 on March 26.
